What are your bookish plans for the weekend? 📚🍂 . Oh, we are so glad the weekend is here! A few days ago we were on our way to the airport when a truck crashed into us, and now sister & I are stuck wearing neck braces. 🥹 At first it was only me because I did not had the chance to brace myself for the impact (Isabel did), but a day later sister started to feel the strain and our doctor has also made her wear one. We are quite the pair right now. 😂👌 . But thankfully we are alright & we should be off the braces in a few weeks. And now we are just taking it as a sign to just stay home reading & taking bookish photos. 📚😪 And we shall treat ourselves to new books! Doch so wie auch sie eine dunkle Vergangenheit hat, hat auch er seine Geheimnisse. Ihr seht, das Ganze fängt ziemlich klassich, wie jedes andere New Adult Buch an. #whatiread: Better Than the Movies

I finished reading this book in one sitting. It's a good and fun read because I've always been a sucker for enemies-to-lovers and it's-always-been-you trope jkdjsksksjk

At first, I didn't like Wesley Bennett at all. He's so annoyinggg and I understand why Liz dislikes him very much lol

This book had me crying like a baby, even though the story is not angsty *embarrassed*

Liz's grief from losing her mom when she was little, Liz's denial of her new stepmom cuz it's not that easy to accept someone new to your family, and Liz's jealousy when her friends had their mother in every special moment of high school. Because of this, Liz has serious mommy issues. But later, her character development made me so proud of her.

(#Toomuchinformation but for realll Liz's character is very similar to mine, maybe that's why I feel so relatable to her????)

People around Liz always judge her idea of love and stuff. I mean, I also dream of having a love life like in a rom-com movie HAHA call me a delulu. When Liz kissed Wes first, I was screaming, YES GIRL GET YOUR MAN but then BOOM Michael ruined it 😩

Eventually, after both of them talked it out, Wes told Liz his true feelings 😵‍💫 I'M BLUSHINGJSKSJD dear lord me when

Liz and Wes have known each other since childhood. For Liz, Wes was her nemesis and annoying neighbor. For Wes, bothering Liz was the only way they could talk.

With Wesley, Liz doesn't have to change her appearance just to look pretty, doesn't have to change her taste in clothes to follow the trend, and doesn't have to hold back from talking about her favorite movie and a-song-that-fit-every-moment-in-her-life. Wes will love and accept everything about her. THEY ARE SO CUTE RIGHTTTT???

Sadly, this book didn't have dual POV, so we never knew what Wes thought about Liz. I'm really curious what he was thinking 😩

I was disappointed with the ending because it's so shorttt I need more lovey-dovey Liz and Wes!!! But when I looked it up on Goodreads and found out there were bonus chapters and a sequel! It will come out in Fall 2024 and has DUAL POV AAAAAAAA I love Lynn Painter so much for giving us these 😭

That's still too long to wait, but yes, I have another reason to stay alive 🫠🫶🏻

Currently reading Octavia Butler's Parable of the Sower and this reminds me of something Lauren Olamina would write, specifically this part:

February WrapUp

4 books completed this month. It may not seem like much but I was able to read a bit everyday which was nice.

I'm hoping to start keeping track of how long the audiobooks are.

I listen to them at 1.3 or 1.5 speed depending on narrator so times may very on how long it takes me.

I think my favorite was the last book I read, Court. It was a long one and I was burnt out but a lot happened and a lot was revealed.

I do plan on continuing the series as I am curious to see what the characters get into next.

Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer

I’ve read the books. I’ve seen the movies. I thought I knew the story, but this peppers in so much more detail that I didn’t even know I wanted. I definitely found myself throughout the original four books wondering Edward’s thoughts and perspective on things and this was a satisfying delivery. In the sixth installment in the Twilight Saga, Meyer takes the reader through the events of the first novel, Twilight, through the eyes of Edward. For the first time the reader is able to hear Edward’s thoughts, experience the events that Bella was not present for, and hear the conversations among the Cullen coven. Additionally, the reader is given a behind the scenes view of Edward’s mind reading ability in live action throughout the novel. Via his gift of mind reading, Edward offers the reader new insight on familiar characters from the mundane school drama of Mike and Jessica to the sinister thoughts of James and Laurent. Though Edward and his family’s backstories are told to Bella in the original book, the reader is treated to a much more thorough account of that past and a deeper dive into the early days of Carlisle’s coven.

I was a big fan of the Twilight series (books and movies, though a lot of the movies didn’t live up to my expectations) at the height of the Twihard fever days. I’ve never thought that the books were particularly well written but also not so poorly written that it really affected my ability to enjoy the events of the books. As I’ve grown older I do have to agree that the story is predatory and more than a little icky. A one-hundred-year old man in a seventeen-year old’s body is able to overcome his overwhelming bloodlust for a seventeen-year-old girl and they become obsessed with one another and fall in love? I mean its problematic. We can analyze and say that. But as in most fantasy novels I read, I do not find it so problematic that I am not able to see it for the fiction that it is and fall into step with enjoying the story.

I found the change of perspective refreshing. I enjoyed the new insight into Alice, Jasper, and Edward’s gifts and the history of Carlisle’s life. After reading this I am now craving more story that gives the proper time and attention to Esme. I feel like she is such a powerful character who shaped so much of Edward and the others in his coven but is not given nearly enough of the spotlight. I’d also very much like to see more of the Edward perspective during parts of Breaking Dawn and maybe even a little beyond. Overall, I very much enjoyed this book and would undoubtedly read more in the Twilight series should Meyer indulge us.

With lessons on ciphers and codes along the way, the revelations about the house, relative and his group of friends were Very interesing. Cantero did a really nice job of setting up the atmosphere of the old (almost ancient seeming) house, the cluttered dusty labyrinth A and his housemate Niamh can get lost in. And there’s a hedge maze!! (the house, just the descriptions of it alone) reminded me of the houses in Ready or Not and Knives Out. The ending, which i wasn’t expecting, reminded me of The Wicked and the Divine. I wana get all Cantero’s books. Well, that's a wrap on another month and one doozy of a year! 📚 What books did you love reading this year? . . When I finish my latest book today, that'll make for 8 books total this month for me and 114 for the year. That's down a LOT from last year for me, but in my case, that drop is definitely due to having babies and not pandemic, because reading is my form of escape and relaxation. (Honestly, I spent a lot of 2019 reading feverishly to escape grief over my 2nd miscarriage, and anxieties related to IVF and pregnancy after loss.) . .
