My Wangan Maxi Tune Career Returns 2024 Edition [Timezone Arcade Araneta City Gateway Mall II & Gateway Cinema] - Part 7 [First Half] (Recorded: Jun 19th, 2024)
Hey, hey! It’s me! 😁 And welcome back for another installment of "My Wangan Maxi Tune Career"! I returned in 2022, and now I'm continue it, this 2024. Yes, it's been a while. I haven't shared my WMMT's play progress in this current year, with the last record I posted was on May 31st, 2023 (Pls, go check it out in the "previous" section) before it went into troubles. And by that, I'm talking about my PC desktop problem. *sigh* 😫😔 Nevertheless, I have now SO MANY photos and screenshots that need to be uploaded on my current social media sites right away before I move on to my current update.
Once again, If you haven't seen my "first & second half" of "Part 6", then please check out my "previous" down below (w/ highlight).
IMPORTANT NOTE(S):
#1: Once again, no #OnThisDay throwback post for this date.
(And) #2: Whoever say's "FFA" was making me unhappy... 😥 Because I can't find the acronym on the Google search... This is why, this game is not ready to meet. Even though, they've already launched the old vanilla installment.*sigh* 😔
So, without further ado, let's get started:
1st to 6th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• [1st to 3rd Images] June 19th, 2024, I'm here at the specific TZ Arcade branch in Araneta City Gateway Mall II, with my two beloved paper dolls (🐻👨🍳 Chowder & Panini 🐰👩🍳). Upon entering the said mall and TZ branch, the atmosphere was pretty nice and clean, much like I visited every TZ branch. Anyway, I've redeemed the ₱200 free Power Load coupon through my gold membership TZ Power Card 💳🕹️😁, with an additional ₱150 load for a good measure 💵. However, there's one problem though... There's no Wangan Maxi Tune cabinet at this particular TZ branch. 😥 Damn, it'll be better if I play it inside this awesome atmosphere, alas it ain't happened. 😓 So, should go back to Trinoma where I previously played? 🤔 Nah, because as far as I know, there's another TZ branch located somewhere at the huge "Araneta City" mall. So, I venture myself to search for another TZ branch with my trusty Google Maps app 🗺️📲, in about a 1 hour ⌚.
• [4th to 6th Images] And said an hour later, I finally found another TZ branch located at the OG Gateway Cinema. 🎞️🕹️😃 Huh, you know what, the layer reminds me of going to the Ayala Glorietta mall in Makati City, where there's a TZ branch beside the Cinema. And that was my "Real Life Story". 😁📖 I was in my High School days 🧑🎓🏫 (3rd year High School to be specific; 2010 to 2011) when my former BF ("Best Friend") 👤 invited me to a meet-up for playing a music rhythm arcade game (named "DJ MAX Technika" 👇🎶🎧) at the aforementioned Glorietta TZ branch, which I suck at it. But, I was also playing my debuted "Wangan Maxi Tune 3DX Plus" 🚘🌃🛣️ arcade, which is my preferred over that music rhythm. 😊 Yeah, who doesn't love playing arcades after watching an awesome movie (say the new upcoming Disney movies, etc..). I've been there, but I never actually attempted that in my life. 😥 As for the actual arcade branch, it matches my memories back in 2012 😊, and no doubt this is one of the most unique branches unlike the Glorietta branch because besides the TZ branch was this Taco Bell / Pizza Hut stand, which is an awesome nice touch if I want it to grab something delicious Taco/Pizza from the "Yum" brands! My paper dolls loves eating Taco/Pizza! Yum! 🌮🍕😋 Sadly, I don't have funds for ordering food. Bummer... 😥😓
7th & 8th Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• Okay, let's move on to the Maxi Tune experience, with "The Speedster Twins" w/ their Impreza cars! 🐶🇯🇵🚘🟥🔵🌸🐰🇯🇵🚘 So, without further ado, let's bring out the twins! Take it away! 😊
Spot 🐶🏎️ & Riya 🐰🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket & Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined respectively]: Thank you, creator! 😄
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: Actually, you go first Spot because you've received something cool! 😃
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: Why thank you, Ri! 😃 Yeah, I've got my first-ever marker in my Maxi Tune experience! I'm sure it's nothing knew, but here it is! That so-called "New Driver" 🔰 always embraces me throughout my childhood, including you Ri!
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: Yes, sir! I think it looks good on you, you know! A Japanese symbol for any kind of beginners! Whether you're a beginner in trading card games, a skillful chef, or whatever you desire! 🔰😀
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: You bet! For us, it is a symbol of our beginners as a Maxi Tune player! Even though I've been there since 2011 and then you followed in 2013. 😊
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: You're correct, twin bro! 😊 Hey, let's move on to our "Story Mode" journey, shall we? 📖🚘🙂
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: Yeah, sure! 🙂
9th to 22nd Image(s) 📷📲: ↑
• Spot & Riya's Maxi Tune "Story Mode" Journey 📖🚘:
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: Let's proceed to our Maxi Tune "Story Mode" journey, with the continuation of "Garage ACE" second half. 📖🚘
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: Yes, sir! However, we have a problem with the steering wheel. 🙁The maneuver is completely jaggy over solid & sturdy wheel. 👎
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: Yeah! These previous aggressive jerks doesn't know how to respect the machine , or fixing it from the mechanic employee! 😑
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: Yeah, does this came from the "PVP" matches? 🤨
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: *Sigh* What do you think, Ri? 🤨 But, all that aside, we've continue it anyway, and I've lost my ("5") winning streak because of the aforementioned jaggy steering wheel! 😫 I'm so frustrated! 😠 Ri? What about you!?
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: Well, I carried on and I continued my winning streak! 🤷♀️
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: YOU WHAT!? 😳 HOW THE HECK DID YOU DO THAT?! 😲
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: *Sigh* I was so lucky, that I haven't got the same fate as yours. And while it was challenging with the jaggy wheel, I put in on my best and I've got 45 wins (now 46) on my winning streak. 😮💨 *Phew* What a sign of relief for me, Spot... 😩
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: Lucky you, Riya. Looks like, I'm about to re-climb my winning mountain once again. *Sigh* 😩
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: But hey, on the bright side, our Impreza cars are now at "Level 9, Step 33"! 🔧⚙️🚘 With the last stop to "Fully Tuned" 🔥🚘 is completing "The Legendary F1 Turbine" stories! Eh, Spot? Do you think, you can handled "10 wins" on your winning streak? 😁😉
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: Heck, yeah! You're right, Ri! I can handle it! 💪😁 One last level and our cars were "Fully Tuned"! LET'S GO! 😃
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: *pat on his back* Awesome, there ya go! Uh yeah, should you changed your title, with this awesome "Tune Maximism"!? 🙂 I've already update my title, though! 😁
Spot 🐶🏎️ [wearing Teenage Dogday's attire w/ Teenage Dogpressed's jacket]: Sounds cool, but I'm gonna save that title via Wangan Navi App. 🚘📲😊
Riya 🐰🏎️[wearing Teenage Hoppy and Teenage Catnap's clothes combined]: Sounds fair, and that includes our Maxi Tune "Story Mode" journey, with us! 📖🚘😊
○ Unfortunately, this is far as I go for now owing to the limitation of Tumblr’s photo upload. But don't fret because I've posted my "second half", right here → [CLICK ME!]. 😉 ○

maybe life transitions aren't bad at all
it's been 8 months already since we moved out from my grandma's house.
a lot has changed. like a LOT.
from having the chance to go out every night to buy whatever food i'm craving (convenience stores are just steps away), waking up super early to do my morning walk, buying french vanilla coffee whenever i feel the need to stay awake, having random kwentuhan with lola - these are just few things i'm really missing from the life i had back then at maragondon.
it was then november last year when things got extremely messy and the disrespect thrown towards me, mommy, and my partner was unbearable. as much as we love taking care of lola and the house, we had no choice but to go.
i lived there for a decade and (?) years so staying here emptied my heart for a while. december supposed to be my favorite month - beside the fact that it is my birth month, i get to spend my first christmas with micoh. photo of first time arranging my desk and my bf and mommy preparing bfast <3
here's how my birthday went last year. bf and i went to paskomiket to see talented artists and buy stuff to support them. it was my dream to finally attend an art con! also finally got to see ayala christmas lights! i've always wondered how it looked like when i was a kid :D
now my days are filled with so much love and peace. the smell of fried rice in the early morning, micoh cooking for me at every chance he gets, watching feel-good movies, doing groceries - well some days can feel mundane but honestly i'm grateful of where i am today. i can now finally take mommy on random mall dates and eat a nice lunch or dinner! i almost forgot - i took her to la union! my very first out of town trip. i'm so happy and i can't wait to travel the world with her and micoh. anyways here's a photo of my dog being excited over his lunch!
this life transition shaped me to be who i am today. back then i was a people pleaser with 0 boundaries (idk how to say "no" to people), i realized how bad it was to always adjust myself to other people. simply putting my feelings aside, being agreeable, and not being able to speak for myself drained the hell out of me.
this doesn't mean i'll stop being soft. i'm still soft and a cheerful giver but with healthy boundaries. i only wish nothing but a peaceful and comfortable life for me, micoh, mommy, ice, and my soon to be little one. i can't wait to meet him.
2023 is at its half and there's still so many things to look forward on. i enjoy this slow living environment. i'm grateful for everything i have right now and for what's coming my way in the future. i treasure my friends and supprt system who checks up on me and make time to talk. i am proud of who i am becoming. i feel blessed and at peace with myself.
that's all. talk to u in my next life transition! :)
love,
aeri

Seda Manila Bay: Best Staycation Hotel In Parañaque City, Philippines
Hey, ka-TakeOff Buddies! It's Miyo here, and welcome to another exciting segment of Hotel Experience! This time, I had the pleasure of spending a relaxing weekend at Seda Manila Bay in Aseana City, Parañaque, and boy, did this hotel impress me. From its spacious infinity pool and brand-new fitness gym to the fun mini golf and cozy cabana beds, this staycation was just what I needed to recharge.
Let me tell you all about my wonderful experience at Seda Manila Bay!
A Perfect Staycation Spot in Entertainment City
I’ve always been a fan of Seda Properties. Whether it’s Seda Makati, BGC, or Ayala Center Cebu, Seda has consistently been my go-to for out-of-town staycations. And Seda Manila Bay did not disappoint!
Seda Manila Bay is a 4-star hotel featuring 350 rooms, including deluxe, premier, family suites, and club suites. What's great about Seda Hotels is their strategic locations.
This one is situated near Ayala Malls Manila Bay and only a 20-minute drive from NAIA, making it ideal for leisure, family, and business travel. The hotel beautifully combines both business and recreational facilities.
My Room with a City View
Our room was located on the 8th floor, and let me tell you, the city view was just perfect. The bed? Super comfy!
It felt like the mattress was hugging me, and I didn't want to get up the next morning—so soft, you just sink right into it.
Infinity Pool, Fitness Gym, and More Fun Activities
One of my favorite spots in the hotel was the Infinity Pool located on the 5th floor. It’s the biggest pool I’ve seen at any Seda property!
You can take an early dip at 6 AM, and there are fun water activities for the kids. Huge shout-out to the lifeguards, who were actively making sure everyone was safe.
The pool is 4.2 feet deep, so if you're planning a dive, better rethink it. But it's perfect for casual swimming and family fun.
Next on the list? The Fitness Gym. The equipment is still new, and it's a great way to stay active during your staycation.
For the little ones, there’s a Play Room, and for teens (or the young at heart), there’s a Game Room with indoor sports like PlayStation and Xbox, plus a computer station for browsing.
Unique Discovery: Mini Golf and Cabana Beds
Here’s a unique feature I didn’t expect—Mini Golf inside the hotel! Open 24/7, all you need to do is ask the receptionist for a golf club and ball, and you're set for some classy fun.
After a round of golf, unwind at the Cabana Beds, perfect for early morning meditation or just relaxing in the stillness of the evening.
For Business Travelers
If you're traveling for business, Seda Manila Bay has you covered. The Club Lounge is the perfect space for meetings or a quiet spot to get some work done. It's ideal for a business trip or even casual work during your vacation.
Misto Restaurant Review
The next morning, we had our complimentary breakfast at Misto, Seda’s all-day dining restaurant. The buffet offered a good mix of international dishes and local favorites, but if I had to rate it, I’d give it a 3 out of 5. The staff was super accommodating, but I think the menu could use a bit more variety and reinvention.
Prime Location – Mall-Hopping Time!
What’s also great about Seda Manila Bay is its proximity to nearby malls:
Ayala Malls Manila Bay
Parqal Mall
SM Mall of Asia
So if you’re in the mood for some shopping, you won’t have to travel far!
As our staycation came to an end, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of emotions—sad that it was over but excited about closing the month with a wonderful partnership with Seda Manila Bay. This hotel truly lives up to its reputation of delivering excellent service and unforgettable experiences.
Like the hashtags say, #ThereIsNothingLikeSeda and #FilipinoHospitality are alive and well at #SedaManilaBay.
If you're planning your next staycation in Manila, I highly recommend checking out Seda Manila Bay. The room rates start at PHP 6,500, and you can visit their website to book your stay.
Until our next hotel experience, mga ka-TakeOff Buddies! ✨

Anxiety
That part in Inside Out 2 when ANXIETY is in charge is how my mother operates. She has our best interests at heart but her protective self can sometimes stunt her to shut down.
This happened when we arrived in Manila and decided to walk the busy and dangerous crosswalks to get to the museum.
She hoped that the security guards could tell us where to go and they gave us wrong directions. The Ayala museum she hadn't been to since she was 17, was closed for a red carpet event. She was so upset that she pushed me away when I was still trying to make the most of our time in Manila yesterday morning.
Miraculously the only exhibit open and free was the Children's Illustrator Museum which was the best exhibit I ever attended in my life. It was a mix of wisdom and whimsy.
I went to the wrong bookstore branch to drop off my books and she looks exasperated, upset, and irritated at my mistake. I had to stand up for myself without being mean by saying, "Mom, please this is my one shot. I need to get to the branch 15 minutes away." It was to Power Plant mall, a place she's never been to.
She put her nose to her phone and was worried every turn we took. I thought to myself, what does this say about us and me right now? I am a lot like my mother, masking strength even when I am overwhelmed and scared. And in times like this, I am also my dad, unafraid to move through these streets with my big self as thought it were my hood. The countless solo travel trips and long city walks into new territories over the past 2 years taught me and trained me to enjoy a place while also knowing the adult women behind these muscles that will protect if pushed to.
On the way home after a long day, my mother had to drive in the dark. She's like you probably can tell I am tired by the look on my face. I state, "I can tell not by your face but your patience with me." Today we were supposed to go to a historical landmark and I said last night, "Maybe we should move it to next week so we can take a break. It's okay to do that." She grunted in disagreement that we need to do everything right now this week. I know it's an ADHD response to hyperfocus on the plan and giving her permission to rest took a bit of convincing.
In all these years, there were times I really hated my mom because I felt like when she looked at me she resented me: my weight, my posture, my attitude, and my belief (feminist) system. But in me, was the person she hoped to me and break free to become is how I choose to see it.
And even when I felt myself want to engage also irritated and upset, I went to my room and looked at my new book haul of Filipino literature. It's a practice of self-management and de-escalation. Relax. Find joy. Forgive.
On the bus ride home before we hopped into her car, I said, "Mom thanks for today." She said of course. Sometimes the people who love us don't know how to love themselves and if they don't know how to do that, how they going to love you? So now, I am in a state of loving me enough to love all flawed selves without judgement.

Why Reese Lansangan's EP Resonates With Me
Last October 2020, my favorite OPM singer-songwriter, Reese Lansangan, released a five-track EP titled, "Playing Pretend in the Interim". The moment it was already out on online music streaming platforms, I can never stop replaying it. I love every song in that EP, especially Reese's storytelling approach. Even if the personas aren't entirely herself, just "borrowed eyes", I felt connected to them somehow. Which is why I wanted to share how and why every track in this EP resonates with me.
Track 1. Mall Rats
youtube
The more birthday cakes I blow, the more I feel nostalgic to things. Have you been to a place where you used to go a lot before, and when you visit it again after a long time, it's just old familiar halls now? Or probably the other way around: you miss the solitary state of a now-busy place. This song reminds me of the places I went in the past but are nowhere to be found now — like the Banana Booth in Ayala Center Cebu located near the cinemas, and the mall's fountain on the ground floor which is now replaced by an indoor playground. (Ahhh so mushy to reminisce the years gone by.)
Life is fleeting and without knowing it, time is slipping away. Our surroundings gradually change, whether we want these changes to happen or not. Sometimes I ask myself: while I get so consumed with my phone and other earthly possessions that give me momentary happiness, am I missing out the time of savoring everything outside my consumption, unaware that they'll be gone soon? 'Cause I don't want to witness an abandoned place and deem I should've done better to relish it while it was still there.
Track 2. Extended Vacation
youtube
I most probably think that this track is the "highlight" of the entire EP since it's a project done and completed during this interim — the COVID-19 pandemic. From what I understood, the persona in this song is a deliveryman or a worker who goes to our homes to hand our orders. These workers are one of the most important intermediaries now that almost everyone orders and does transactions online. So, it is just right for us to say thank you to them, and even give them a tip!
It's a vacation for the ones with money to celebrate. This song also really tells that even if we are all suffering amid the pandemic, it is not to the same degree as others. For those who are fortunate, lucky are they to still be able to plan vacays even outside their homes. But as for me, a.k.a the deliveryman, or generally the working class, this pandemic's never really a vacation for them.
Track 3. Ghosting
youtube
I admit that this is the least of all tracks that resonated with me. Wouldn't it be absurd if one says that they connect to this persona of a ghost? But oddly enough, it kinda made me think if I were just a lone soul, I'd do the same as the lyrics of this song: Some time now I've been wanting
To move on, find another
Place where I can feel like I can sleep again
A traveling ghost perhaps? Hahaha.
I just thought that maybe if I were one, people might be scared of me because I can go "anywhere". But maybe I'd go and stay in different nooks and crannies because I just simply want to until I grow weary of it. That's just it.
Track 4. The Encyclopedia Salesman
youtube
I can recall back then when salesmen go door-to-door selling. There was once a time when a man convinced my father to buy a children's encyclopedia set. I know I was happy he bought it because I remember taking pleasure of flipping every page and feeding my curious little self with information and images I never knew about.
But in this time wherein almost everything we want to know, learn, and get can be obtained through using our screens (and also buyers' preference for in-store), I guess people don't find the need for salesmen to knock on our doors anymore.
This isn't something I typically feel sentimental about, if it weren't for this EP. It made me contemplate how hard it must had been for them knocking doors all over cities under heat from 9 to 5 knowing that they have to sell the heavy load of products they bring while going door-to-door, just so they can provide for themselves and their families.
I guess it's been a decade, and we still have that encyclopedia we bought from the encyclopedia salesman (though now hidden and dusty). But I don't remember the last time I opened those books. I don't even remember when was the last time the encyclopedia salesman knocked on our doors. I hope wherever he is now, he doesn't have to bring a heavy load anymore.
Track 5. When It Happens
youtube
Sometimes I wonder if I die *knocks on wood*, will people share their best memories with me, even those who I don't talk to anymore? I know I shouldn't be dwelling so much about death and just live in the present. But I can't help but think: Will my ending days be as worthwhile as I would've wanted? And when the time comes *knocks on wood again* that the scythe decides to reap my soul, am I still worth remembering?
So weep for me, my darling dear. Tomorrow you'll move on.
I know that people might forget and move on (or maybe act like it) after weeks of mourning. So Reese is right. Because while the dead body is decaying, the lives of the people who mourn still carry on.
But you've got miles to go. In a life I'll never know. So move on along.
Love, Andie

Rookie Film
One of Cinemalay's entries for full-length film. It's a sapphic rom-com, volleyball themed film.
1st plan is to watch this film with my friends, para pati yung animated film (Iti Mapupukaw) na naging part sila mapanood din namin.
But I saw a pick-up line contest for Rookie film ticket & tried my luck. Hindi na kasi nag papakita yung Ayala Malls Manila Bay on places where I could watch.
Glorietta would be the final somewhat closest venue after PICC.
But what do you know! I won a ticket & I was able to watch it at PICC. The film is really good.
The energy of watching a sapphic film like that on big screen. The comfort & warmth being surrounded with that crowd.
Kung may mas malapit lang sana dito sa South na cinema where they'll play Rookie film for more days extension. I'll watch it again.
I planned on watching it again. Nakabili na din ako ng ticket. But I noticed people who wanted to watch it na hindi pa napapanood. So I gave up my ticket.
Something that I won't regret doing kasi I really want them to experience what I experienced inside the cinema. The hype, the kilig at yung atmosphere. BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!

BLOG #4: Profiling Art Patrons of A Certain Class
The Power of Art
The arts served the nation numerous times, such as in the pre-colonial era when these were present in many ritualistic-cultural daily practices. And during the colonialists' take-over, prominent members of the Katipunan, like Macario Sakay, Aurelio Tolentino, and Andres Bonifacio, appeared in plays performed at Teatro Porvenir as a component of propaganda against the colonizers, Jose Rizal with his novels, and many more.
Today, the arts are still a means for igniting a revolution against oppression and corruption. But with great power comes great responsibility, and as the arts flourish thanks to the construction of museums and galleries, so does the force of those who desire to use its illusory powers as if adding another definition to the arts as a capitalistic venture. One of the many galleries that have amassed a reaction is the AAG or Ateneo Art Gallery, notable for housing a variety of donated artworks, including some pieces bought by tycoons, an article "176 Gifts/ 176 Dispossessions" written by Angelo Suarez and Donna Miranda discusses in depth the fickle freedom of our nation balancing itself on the backs of the comprador Burgis.
We're aware that presents aren't self-serving tools used to flaunt and raise the position and fortune of the donor. It is a readiness to contribute without expecting anything in return. But in the case of Fernando Zobel, a Filipino businessman of Spanish descent, a mestizo who benefitted from the colonial landgrabs as mentioned within the article, and also a billionaire tycoon who has the power and influence to shift the country's economy, is it not self-serving to donate art and have their names deodorized and become more attractive to other capitalists and businesses, almost advertising to the world of how much credit they have? They own a bank (BPI) and the Ayala Corporation’s subsidiary Manila Water!

Artsy Oligarchy
Nowadays, oligarchs that express themselves as art patrons and lovers in the media say they are doing this to contribute to the community to give back. But how do art-washing and gentrification benefit the natives, the marginalized, and the impoverished?
No doubt this family (Zobel de Ayalas) has mastered the power of art-washing. Are we sure that what they are doing, despite Fernando Zobel de Ayala and many members' artistic backgrounds, is that they are ethically patrons of the arts?
Isn't it odd that whenever a new land and metro area is in the process of development, like Nuvali, in Canlubang, hailed as Ayala Land's southern urban fulcrum, cultural and artistic festivities are seemingly prevalent, hosting that we, the people, made this possible, as Filipinos with great talent and an eye for the arts we should celebrate (Ramirez, 2008)!? The family's patriarch, Don Jaime, was inaugurating "Bravo Filipino," an event showcasing Philippine music, art, and fashion located at Greenbelt 5. The mall (Greenbelt) was perhaps the only one in the nation managed by a museum (Ayala Museum), at that time (Ramirez, 2008). Don Jaime expressed his dismay at the notion that Filipinos must be successful abroad to receive high honors at home (Ramirez, 2008). What he mentioned had some merit because we Filipinos recognize talent when it is displayed in other countries, particularly the West, as voiced by Don Jaime. The issue is that practically all of the artists in Bravo Filipino, whom Don Jaime expressed as a chance to discover local artists, are already well-known in the eyes of the global art world and the Filipino people, such as Ryan Cayabyab and Louie Ocampo, even though it intended to emphasize the discovery of our local artists, seemingly another art-washing strategy to capitalize on their businesses and products. And the Ayala Museum itself houses precious artifacts such as the Golden Bowl found in Siargao del Sur by a Filipino worker by the name of Berto Morales, that also found other golden artifacts, whose family was kidnapped but sold back for ransom due to his discovery which is now serving unsavory middlemen (Fish, 2015). The Ayala Museum now has control of the Golden Bowl. I never saw full disclosure of the discovery of these historical artifacts or recognition of their discoverers, who may have been regular people just trying to make ends meet but felt vindicated when artifacts from their history turned into a double-edged sword because of the greed of the ruling class that did more harm than good. And artworks by renowned artists, such as the rediscovered "Hymen, oh Hyménée! (Roman Wedding)," by Juan Luna, as if the Philippines were a warehouse nation to store their riches through collections of art and galleries that further decorate their name, masking as a messiah that our history is accessible for 650 and/or 350 (discounted) pesos admission that would circulate within the economy of one family who can sustain numerous cities and even islands (Ayala Museum, n.d).

Therefore, don't we feel as if we're being baited, through art-washing, much like the manipulation methods of our former Spanish colonists, but instead of artistic and cultural ventures, using the power of religion to enable control among the islands and changing their culture? The glorification of being saved through Christianity under foreign rule. I cannot stop metaphorizing this family with our colonizers, having known their family comprador initiatives in the past. Reading and observing the family dynasty seems to be a form of postmodern colonization, much like the messianic guise of our Spanish colonizers. If we focus on the museums of the modern day, like the Ayala Museum, aren't they like the cathedrals of Spanish friars? Do we see ourselves represented in a museum that felt like our culture was another exotic attraction, our culture, and arts to be profited by the ruling class? As if figuratively, we've returned to the depictions of Spanish priests subtlety calling us indios, but now within the confines of a museum whose name constantly reminds us of our past.
What is a Gift?
I can't seem to disagree with the essays on "176 gifts/176 dispossessions," indeed, the arts have become so entrenched in neoliberal ideals that skew the essence of museums and the artists in the art and the art itself -a despairing truth. Much like NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), may they like it or not, these aren't for aesthetics or any other meaning of art but for their economic capital and hold on to the global trade, despite their owners' descriptions of it as "unique and inimitable."
Dare I say these cultural art festivities and donated pieces by the Ayalas aren't truly philanthropic, nor do they serve as gifts for the masses to be enlightened but to heighten their influence and hide the gentrification and displacement If they'd want to contribute to the Filipino people's art ventures and cultures they would've given gifts that serve local artists, starving artists, and communities unable to spend extra to travel to the urban metropolitan areas. To build and donate galleries situated without the subtlety of advertising their billionaire clan name. Gifts do not glorify the giver but acknowledge and support the receiver.
The article has really cemented the issue of modern-day corruption and even postmodern colonialism, which goes beyond just the gifts of these tycoons to AAG, much like the issues of the Ayalas and the irony of their museum and buildings being in every center of gentrified-marketable urban cities. Are we sure that these are still gifts? What good is a mall to a local farmer and our urban poor who used to live within these lands but now live within the slums of such "gifts?"

In this picture, we are all tired, so I blurred our faces. We just finished eating dinner, and all we want to do is go home.
After the star city, we were down to Ayala Malls to eat dinner in the food club. As we entered the restaurant, what we did was change our PE shirt into a sweater since we sweat a lot. After changing, we started to get food to eat. As we sat down, we saw the people singing "Happy Birthday." There are three celebrants; two are my classmates. As we were eating, we noticed that Jhared (one of the celebrants) was crying, and we do not know why. We guessed that maybe it was because of tears of joy. Jhared is one of the kindest people I know; maybe other people might not see it, but based on my observation, he is nice. He cares for people, especially those who are close to him. So I know that he deserves to be happy and be the main character in those moments.
Even though we are already full of eating sushi, we still have desserts such as ice cream, crepes, and cake. We did not finish eating those since they do not fit in our stomachs anymore. Some foods do not taste good, but we enjoyed them anyway.
After eating, we headed to the ground to wait for our bus. One of my friends was picked up by her mom at Ayala Mall. So one of the seats was vacant.
As we went back to our bus, my seatmate and I talked a lot and ate too, even though we kept telling ourselves that we were sleepy.
After that, nothing happened; I just waited for my father to pick me up at school. As my father arrived I just waved goodbye to my classmates and adviser.
My feelings that night were happy, grateful, and tired at the same time. I'm happy because I get to bond with my classmates, especially my teachers. I did not expect to be with them on the rides in Star City since they are my "teachers." At that time I did not see them as strict teachers; I saw them as friend teachers. Now I am grateful for the experiences, for the people I am with, for my parents who let me go on a field trip, for my father who woke up just to pick me up, and for the Lord since he guided us on our trip.

Before our field trip ended, we went to a buffet restaurant called Foodclub, which is located on the 4th Floor of Ayala Malls Manila Bay's I.T zone. We arrived around 7 p.m., and you can tell how tired and hungry we are. As we approach the buffet, we are greeted by an active, happy, and enthusiastic crew, as well as a choice of delectable items such as seafood, sushi, grilled pork, pastries, and sweets. I enjoy the things they provide; I am a sushi enthusiast, so when I noticed the many varieties of sushis they created, I instantly went for the sushis. I also enjoy their pastries, which include custard creampuffs, doughnuts, churros, and vanilla cake. Customers come to food clubs to celebrate their birthdays, graduations, and other special occasions. While we were eating, the staff suddenly appeared in front of us with a birthday banner and small pieces of cake, which they gave to two of my classmates to do a surprise celebration of their birthday, the staff entertained us with an enthusiastic and fun performance, we sang the birthday celebrants a happy birthday, and we had a lot of fun.
These photographs depict some of the foods I've had. And, depending on my preferences, their cuisine was so wonderful and enticing that I didn't realize I'd already eaten so much. I didn't expect that to happen because I always get what I want to eat. To summarize, it was an incredible occasion that I will never forget. It filled not just our bellies, but also our emotions. It was nice to end the field trip with a smorgasbord considering we just had Goldilocks and Jollibee for breakfast, snacks, and lunch. I had a terrific time on the field trip and got to explore and see some incredible sights. Our field trip adventure may have ended, but the ties and memories I made will live on and be remembered at the end of the day. Even the slightest things will live on in my memories.

Our Story
December 21, 2022 (S'Maison, MOA)
This was our first date! I remember meeting you at your condo, all dressed up. We went to MOA to have dinner, and then I had to grab your hand because 1. I don't want you to get lost 2. I just wanted to hold your hand. We had dinner in La Creperie, and I cannot forget how blunt you were in telling me that you were attracted to me, while I was eating my pasta. Our first date ended with me taking you home (something that my younger self will not do, but what the hell), and you staying the night.
December 28, 2022 (Greenbelt)
Our second date, and we had a good conversation of our lives, and more discussion about how we were feeling towards each other. We enjoyed the drinks, and simply being together. I also told you that I was catching feelings for you. I also met your dad for the first time, since I had to pick you up after having your haircut.
January 1, 2023
Because of the alcohol, we became more courageous to express how we feel towards each other. I can clearly recall that you greeted me "Happy New Year", but and the next message was "I love you." We later on said it to each other for the first time, and the feeling was surreal. It felt so right, and there were no apprehensions with what the future holds for us.
Third date (Ayala Malls Manila Bay)
We met for our third date, and it was quite an adventure! I cannot explain how it felt like when we exchanged "I love you's" for the first time, and in person. Love, being with you makes me feel that I am the happiest person, and that I can do anything. We ended our date, taking public transportation, and walking from EDSA Extension to the condo, which is something that I will always treasure. I clearly remember you saying that you enjoyed the walk, and it was as if we were traveling! I have always admired how positive you see things, despite the situation being inconvenient.
January 5, 2023 (CCP Complex)
If there's any thing that we love to do together, it's drinking alcohol together! We spent a few hours together before your flight to Capiz, and had coffee first since you had to prepare for your trip. We later on had dinner, and became exclusive. It was not my plan to ask that question, it just came out, I guess? I have read and watched that women are not supposed to ask that question, but again, I'm an exemption!
January 8, 2023
We didn't have a date this day, but you told your dad, your brother and your closest relatives that you were serious with me. I was speechless, love. I felt happy, and I look forward to you meeting my family, too.

Ultimate Bonding Experience
Summary:
Hange and Moblit follow Levi and Petra on a date. It's a disaster.
Tags:
one-shot, fluff and humor, nonbinary Hange, they/them pronouns for Hange, officemates, best friends forever, friends to lovers, jealous Hange
Notes:
This is for the Levihan Filo Week Day 4 Prompt, Tourist Destinations, featuring Greenbelt, Makati (Yes, the audacity of me.)
—
"You're going out on a date with Petra?” Hange stood up too quickly, knocking down the pen holder on their office desk in process. “As in… Petra Rall? From the Marketing Department? As in, sweet-as-candy, honey-bunny, gorgeous glam girl Petra?”
Levi swiveled his computer chair to face his best friend. "She asked me out."
"Hmm. And you didn't say no?" Hange was absentmindedly tapping the end of the pencil against their lower lip.
He gave a half-shrug. "Wanted to try something new for a change."
This was really new. Hange was incredulous. Levi never went on dates. Levi went on food trips and grocery shopping and karaoke nights (mainly due to Hange’s persistent nagging), but he never agreed to a date. There were always other people around whenever they hung out. The two of them had been best friends since college, and now as colleagues, Hange could tell from the numerous awkward and sort-of romantic encounters with Levi that Petra wasn't exactly his type.
"Is this a joke? Is this for a dare?" Hange kept prodding. They would bombard him with questions nonstop until he gave in. “Did you hit your head somewhere? Are you dying?”
"No, I just told you, Four-Eyes, I wanted to try something new.” Levi returned to his work and continued typing on his computer. “She said she already has planned something for tomorrow."
"This isn't you, Levi. You don't like itineraries," Hange said, sitting down to compose themself, gripping the pencil in their hand and holding it too tightly against the notepad.
"Maybe it's about time I do."
“So you’re choosing her over me?” Hange was already upset. Their hand was already shaking at this point, the tip of their pencil threatening to break. Levi would usually hang out with them to binge-watch a show or series on Saturdays over pizza and cheap beer, which reminded her, “What about our UBE?”
“Our—what?” He looked over his shoulder, confused.
Hange gave him a hopeful smile, hand still resting on the paper. “Our Ultimate Bonding... Experience?”
Levi glued his eyes to his computer screen once more. “You can Netflix and chill on your own for one night.”
The pencil snapped in half.
—
It was only 6 pm and Hange had already downed half a bucket of beers this Friday evening. Tomorrow morning, Levi would meet up with Petra somewhere for their date, maybe have lunch, a movie, some hand-holding and kissing, and then the two would possibly end it up with a bang. Something was really boiling deep inside Hange as these imagined scenes flashed through their mind.
And Erwin had to bear with them for tonight.
"I just don't understand, 'Win," Hange started, "Why would he do this? Why would he trade our pizza night for a girl he can't even relate to?"
Erwin was Hange and Levi's colleague in the same department before he got promoted to an executive position in corporate. Times like this, he would lend an ear to his friends' complaints and act as some sort of a part-time counselor, part-time therapist, and full-time drinking buddy.
Hange should be thankful Erwin had never charged them for these sessions before, but now with all of their whining, he was probably regretting that he gave them for free.
"Last I checked, you guys are just best buddies," Erwin commented. "Have you ever told him how much he means to you?"
Hange pouted.
"I'll take that as a no," Erwin said.
Their friend had a point.
"I can imagine it already, " Hange mused, eyes already watery, "I can imagine him walking down the aisle with pretty-face Petra and making babies with her, while I end up becoming that unknown relative who sends them presents for Christmas every year."
"Ah, I can imagine all the regrets you'll be having for the rest of your life."
Hange grabbed a fistful of hair in both hands. "What do I do now? I want Levi to be happy, I really do. I want to see him be happy, even if it's not with me. But why am I getting all riled up about this?"
"Then follow him," Erwin simply said as he wiped the beer of his mouth with his sleeve. "Follow him to the ends of the earth. Maybe you'll see for yourself."
Erwin had meant it as a figurative speech. When he said follow, he meant Hange supporting Levi all the way through. He never meant Hange stalking their best friend on his date.
Obviously, Hange had gotten it all wrong, because now they just blinked once, twice, a grin forming on their face. As if an epiphany had appeared before them. "Hmm. You're right."
Follow him.
This could be the greatest thing that Erwin Smith had ever come up with. Brilliant idea. Superb, even. One-of-a-kind strategy by none other than the genius Erwin Smith—oh, yes, yes, yes.
Erwin was still finishing up his beer when Hange tackled him into a hug out of gratitude, their smile wider than before. "You really are the best of the best, you know that?" They told him. This could work, Hange thought.
The plan was to follow Levi, literally.
—
"Boss, why did you pay me a hundred bucks to follow them?"
Hange was wringing their hands together. "We’re doing this together, Moblit! I wanna see how Levi acts around this girl."
"That's it?" Poor Moblit couldn't believe what he's hearing.
"I just wanna make sure he's making a good impression!"
They’re both sitting in a cafe right across Levi’s apartment. He and Hange were dressed up in plain clothes with matching sunglasses and baseball caps. Moblit had no choice; Hange was going to strangle his neck if he declined.
Moblit rested his head against his palm. "Aren't you jealous?"
"Pffft, me? Jealous?" The sour look on Hange's face was enough to tell Moblit that they weren't fooling anybody. It was just Levi’s attitude towards the entire ordeal that was tearing Hange apart. “I’m sure I’m not being rude.”
Moblit scratched his head and sighed. Hange as a boss could be really demanding at times, but the two of them were also friends in real life, which is why he agreed to this. "I thought Petra was head over heels for Oluo?"
"I thought so, too."
"He's dense, though," Moblit said. "Maybe this was just a ruse to get Oluo to confess?"
But Hange was already distracted by the sight of Levi coming out of the building.
"Ooh, he's leaving." Hange pointed towards the familiar figure. They then put their shades on as part of their undercover mission. "Let's go."
The two of them hid behind the fast food mascot of the big fat stupid ugly bee. Levi really knew how to dress up, Hange had noticed. He was wearing a plain button-up with dark pants, his hair neatly trimmed and his face cleanly shaven. He never dressed up like this whenever they hung out. It hurt Hange to see him this handsome. Levi then headed straight for the nearest station and waited for the next train to arrive. Hange and Moblit then took the same train but stayed on the other rail cart, catching a glimpse of Levi every now and then to make sure that he hadn't alighted by then.
“What would you do if they do end up together, Boss?” Moblit had to ask.
“I'd sign my life away as a single person for the rest of my years. Be an old cat person, maybe.”
The skyscrapers of Makati were passing them by, huge billboards left and right of commercial ads and government campaigns looming over them. If they looked far enough, they could see shanties and informal settlers nested in small alleys here and there. Hange had been seeing this for the past few years of their lives; Metro Manila could be daunting, but they wished they could spend away from the noisiness and busyness of the capital.
“He's getting out at Ayala Station, Boss!" Moblit pointed out. "They’re probably meeting somewhere in Greenbelt.”
“Ah, fancy-schmancy. Who could have known?”
Makati was the place only for the very rich, or for the very poor. There was no in between. Nobody dared to bat an eyelash at the rickety houses behind the skyscrapers. The shopping district and the high-end restaurants where affluent people would gather: celebrities, business executives, expatriates, anyone who could call themselves rich, rich, rich. Hange was none of those. Levi wasn't either, but he could easily pass off as one if he wanted to.
When they got off at the station, Hange and Moblit crouched behind the dumpster, craning their necks enough to get a glimpse of Levi coming up to Petra who stood waiting in front of the fountain.
“Ah, I’m so glad you’re here,” Petra said, her smile warm and happy as Levi walked alongside her. “Shall we?”
Petra was effortlessly gorgeous. She had her hair clipped into place, her slender figure matching the nice summer dress that she wore. She had also put on some light makeup, but even without it, Hange could tell that Petra would still be as breathtaking.
There really wasn't anything that Hange could hate about Petra Rall. Petra was attractive and alluring, sweet and shy, probably the ultimate dream girl of every person in their office. Hange would date Petra if she were even into them, provided the two of them had a spark.
But Hange's attention was all for Levi. Always had been. Always will be.
"Shall we, Boss?" Moblit interrupted Hange's train of thought.
"Right."
Tonight they felt that they had to accept the possibility of Levi ending up with someone else. Regardless of how this would end, Hange had decided they'd be there for him.
—
They didn't really blend in with this fancy-schmancy place. This was one of the most expensive fashion malls in the area; the price tags made broke people cry, and the restaurants were considered artisan for their taste. People were dressed up in crisp polos and cocktail dresses, the faint smell of perfume wafting here and there. The gardens had a beautiful landscape, stoned paths paving the way, and the lights were carefully draped on the trees around them, glowing like stars. It was a romantic setup for lovers.
Petra was pointing out all the different sights around the area, holding onto Levi's arm. Levi remained stiff all throughout their date, not even shedding a single ounce of emotion when Petra popped a joke. It ended up being a lousy one, though, since Levi didn't even scoff. Hange felt smug after that; their own jokes were terrible as well, but at least Levi would call them out for that.
"I think it's going well, don't you, Boss?" Hange's assistant teased.
“Oh, yeah, perfect, I can see how compatible they are.” Hange was being sarcastic.
Petra had chosen a place called People's Palace. It had a five-star rating on the internet, and even the cheapest item on the menu could break a whole in someone's wallet. There was no way they could eat there. Levi didn't even protest, though. He must have been saving up for this all along. Thankfully, the restaurant's walls were a solid transparent glass, and Hange could see the two of them from afar without having to go in.
Petra was saying something in a hushed tone when Levi came over to her side. He then put a hand on her face, tenderly brushing her cheek, as if he were about to go in for a kiss.
The moment Levi held Petra that close, Hange had to stifle their gasp which ended up like a strangled cry.
The sound made Levi look over his shoulder. Moblit had to cup his hand over Hange's mouth to shush them up, pulling them down behind the huge pots of plants.
"You alright?" Petra asked him, craning her neck towards the source of the sound as well. "What was that?"
Levi clicked his tongue. "Probably some lost bird. Well, more like a dying one."
The two went back to their meals and didn't bother to check if they were being followed. Moblit then let go of Hange and sighed in relief. They were safe, for now.
Everyone in the restaurant looked classy and elegant, soft lights all over the room. After Levi had paid for the meal (he didn't look too happy when he saw the check), he and Petra stood up and exited through the other door on the farthest end. Hange had forgotten about that. The People's Palace had an entryway connecting to the indoor gardens. They would have to enter the premise in order to follow Levi and Petra.
Without any further thought, Hange immediately stood up to barge into the restaurant, urging their assistant to follow. "They're probably confessing to each other in the gardens!" Hange was already right through the entrance. "Moblit, hurry up, I need to—"
"Boss, watch out!"
The warning came in too late. Hange had already knocked down a drink from the waiter's tray right behind them, the liquid spilling all onto the customer sitting nearest to where they were. The huge beefy man was furious, the steam already coming out of his reddened ears.
"Why, you, son-of-a-gun—"
Hange held up both hands in front of their face. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!"
"Do you even belong here, you prick?" The stranger grabbed the front of Hange's oversized shirt. There were gasps from other customers, and one of the servers left to call the manager.
"Please, don't!"
The man started shaking Hange. "Filthy, pathetic, piece of—"
Somebody grabbed his wrist before he could even do anything else. "Let go."
It was Levi.
"And who the fuck are you?"
He was small, but his presence was intimidating, firm. "My friend already apologized. Isn't that enough?"
The stranger released his hold of Hange and held out the stained fabric. "Fucking pay for this shirt, asshole!"
Hange was mouthing 'sorry, sorry, sorry,' to him, their eyes filled with apology. Levi didn't bat an eyelash. Instead, he quickly took out twenty bucks from his wallet and shoved it into the huge man's hand. He then grabbed his friend by the elbow. "Hange, come on."
"Hey, this isn't enough, shortstack," the stranger grumbled, crumpling the bill. He gestured once more to his stained shirt. "Do you know how much I bought this for?"
"You could buy a similar one from one of the thrift stores downtown for less than half the price. I doubt anybody would notice." He tugged at Hange again and headed for the exit.
"What did you say, you little—"
They were out of the restaurant before the man could even finish. The manager had kept the customer in his seat, trying to console him with a discounted coupon.
Outside was a breath of fresh air, the coolness of it enough to clear their minds.
“You alright?”
Hange was still trembling. Their lips quivered, too. They had never been roughly-held like that before. Levi calmed them down by rubbing their back, urging them to take slow, steady breaths.
"Levi?" Petra called after the two of them. "Are we still heading to the movie?"
Hange had feared this all along. They didn't want to ruin his date with Petra; they merely wanted to see Levi, and now they had done it. Hange held their own face in both hands. Levi saw it and knew what he had to do.
“I’m sorry, Petra, but we should probably call it off at this point.”
"Should we re-sched?"
Levi paused before responding. "I had a good time tonight, Petra. But I think... once is enough.
“Oh. Okay.” Petra stood still for a moment, disappointed. They expected her to cause a scene, to thrash at him or at Hange, and then complain about her evening. But to Petra's credit, she merely broke into a smile and said, "Thanks for giving me a chance, Levi. I had a good time, too. You guys enjoy the rest of the night."
The huge beefy man suddenly burst out of the glass door, the restaurant manager no longer able to hold him back. "You fucking punks, I'm going to call the police—"
Hange hid behind Levi out of instinct, which didn't make any sense, considering that he was a couple inches shorter than them. "What now?" Their hand was still in his.
"Go ahead, Petra's safe with me," Moblit assured them. "I'll text you guys once we get home safely."
Levi nodded and took off with Hange.
They ran past the gardens, past the expensive shops, past the fountains and the bright lights. Everything seemed like a blur. Hange's senses had overloaded their brain at this point, especially since Levi's hand was still holding on to theirs. It was warm. They never expected any of these to happen. Levi would look over his shoulder once in a while to see if Hange could still keep up. They ran as fast as their legs could carry them, and with every tug of their hand, Hange felt like they were living in a dream. The two of them had already reached the station, heavily panting as they clutched their chest.
"So much for trailing me all this time, Four-Eyes," Levi heaved. He knew.
Hange was beyond apologetic. "I'm sorry, okay! I just wanted to see how you'd act around someone while on a date."
Levi made another scoffing sound. For a minute, Hange thought he was mad. But the intensity in his eyes was full of longing, like somehow, he did want Hange to follow him. And then Levi sighed. "Erwin told me you might be spying; my suspicions were confirmed when I saw you hiding behind the plants."
“Oh.” Hange had nothing else to say. “Well, then, I, uhm, I should probably head home. Sorry for ruining your date."
They were about to leave when Levi held their hand once again, stopping Hange in their tracks. "Where do you want to go?" he asked.
"Huh?"
"You already ruined my date, so you might as well hang out with me for the rest of the night."
Hange couldn't believe what they were hearing. It was almost too good to be true. But the reality dawned upon them; they were still in Makati, and they couldn’t really afford any of these places. "Uh… well, I don't really have any money, and I'm not really sure I want to dine here…"
"It's fine,” Levi said. “I know a place to go."

Manila is much more than these four corners
“Ang liit pala ng mundong ginagalawan natin.“
“Mas nababagay ako rito.“
My younger sister told me that she thought we’re gonna settle our lives living here in our province the rest of our lives. Continuing our day knowing that we’ll be here, in our grandparent’s house, in a structure with unnoticeable absence of people who were once the source of its life.
We went to Manila to accompany my Lola for her medical check-up needed before she go to Australia. My aunt, who lived half of her life in Makati, was also with us, our guide.
My aunt told me and my sister to go to a nearby store outside the building while she help and wait Inay to finish.
The thing is, actually, we had been wanting to visit the Ayala Museum. Me and my sister are big lovers of museums.
Sitting in a convenience store, I watch people pass by the street. A delivery man and an employee early in the morning to do their business. We are doing nothing but stare what’s in front of us. To my surprise, I got a message from our aunt living in abroad, “Kamusta ang Makati girls.” I replied a photo of me and my sister drinking a box of chocolate drink.
After a long while, we went out the store and walked the street of Salcedo. So as a probinsyana who seldomly visit Manila, I roamed my eyes admiring everything. All was new, even if it’s the usual things I see on the streets.
Doing nothing again in the same store, my aunt suddenly called. She booked a Grab for us to go to the museum.
Now, our national artist Fernando Amorsolo. More Amorsolo. A bit of Luna. And saw works of Amorsolo’s colleague.
Witnessed things that I didn’t knew existed.
Paintings which I often see on Google, now seen by my bare eyes.
2 pm. Had a short walk to Greenbelt for late lunch. My first time dining at Italliani’s, and I immediately knew we’re in a restaurant with sosyalin people.
We decided to walk after the lunch we had. Roamed around Greenbelt. All I can see from my left and right are those designer brands.
Even while walking at the mall, I was slowly getting more convinced that there’s more than the current, revolving world I’m in; there’s more place that offers more. My sister also spoke to me her thoughts, similar to mine.
Settling for idle and systematic days will somehow delay my growth as a person.
Waiting to process my driver’s license may take a while. But I hope time will come, I have the courage to willingly commute on my own. And make known to myself that it’s okay to stay away from the things that will remind me of how I mold myself in a difficult way. Because there’s more to it.

Another "list of locations in Trese" post because it's been a month and idk if I should rewatch but I just want to point out more references
Trese is set in Manila (Maynila, in Tagalog), commonly known as the capital of the Philippines. However, several shots and locations reveal that this Manila is analogous to Metro Manila, a.k.a. the National Capital Region. The City of Manila (Lungsod ng Maynila) is one of 16 cities in this highly urbanized, densely populated region.
In the show, many locations are taken from real places and buildings in Metro Manila (and many more in the komiks). In Trese: After Dark, the creators explained how they went through all 13 MRT stations and eventually came up with the show's opening scene. The MRT has broken down often and has overshot onto Taft Avenue once
Apparently, the showrunners (?) didn't name all the various places they used in the show to keep things simple (for foreigners) and relatable (for Filipinos and Manilenyos). The backgrounds were absolutely beautiful. Minor spoilers ahead.
Many were thrilled to see shots of the Manila Bay skyline (?) and the Dela Rosa Access Road in Makati City, in Episode 1.
Balete Drive is a real two-way street in Quezon City, complete with urban legends.
Ibwa's aswang market is a pretty standard palengke (wet market), although somehow not as crowded as a regular human market.
The road where Alex races Maliksi seems to be a part of C-5, a beltway/network of roads and bridges (although it could be any other highway or circumferential road). There is a history of drag/street racing at midnight or early morning, when major public roads are empty, which is obviously dangerous and illegal. it's 3 AM while I'm typing this specific sentence and I can hear an engine how are people still doing this in a pandemic
We get a cool shot of the Metro Manila skyline with the Pasig River and the Ayala Bridge in Episode 2.
The Armanaz clan's tower is the Ayala Tower in Makati City (idk if they also have the horse art). The Bagyon clan's building is the Meralco headquarters / main office in Pasig City.
Livewell Village is based on various upper-class subdivisions, and "Livewell" is the name of several areas and businesses in Metro Manila alone.
Magna Mall is SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City. I'm not familiar with the boundaries between Pasig and Mandaluyong I'm not completely sure where Ortigas is
We also get shots of major roads (wishful thinking on my part makes me believe it's Quezon Boulevard but it could be any major road) sans the traffic congestion that still persists with limited public transportation operations such as in my favorite Team Trese scene.
ABC-ZNN is the counterpart of the television/media network ABS-CBN, both in name and physical location.
The cemetery in Episode 4 is most likely the Manila South Cemetery. It was said to be in "Brgy. Magdalo," a reference to the Magdalo faction of the Katipunan.
The "squatters' area" is later named "Pedro Lungsod," a reference to San Pedro Calungsod, the second Filipino to be canonized by the Roman Catholic Church. More obscurely, this plays on how several barangays and towns in the Philippines are named after saints (e.g. San Jose, San Nicolas, Santa Ana).
The hospital Hank recuperates in is the Manila Doctors' Hospital, in the City of Manila. The whole place looks cool but I've only been there once for a few hours
New Bilibid Prison, the venue of the final showdown, is in Muntinlupa City.
The post-credits scene at the end of Episode 6 apparently takes place in the Port of Manila (Pantalan ng Maynila), although I can't tell which exact harbor.
Although you know what's weird and unrealistic? Metro Manila is one of the most densely populated regions and that doesn't come out so much in the show: no traffic congestion, no crowding in the MRT station, the completely empty karinderya in Episode 5, and so on. It's probably a creative decision (?) or due to budget constraints.

A Trip Down Memory Lane
Titanic, A Walk to Remember, Mean Girls, White Chicks are just some of the classic movies that everybody watched and the entire world knows but let me be someone different. I haven’t seen any of these movies, not even a split, second of these films, why? Simply because I’m not a movie person (though I’m not a book person as well) but one memorable experience that I would love to share with you is first ever movie experience in a theater. Are you ready for a nostalgic ride? Well, here goes nothing I guess?
September 2013. If you personally know me, you’ll probably think that it’s my birthmonth that’s why but that specific year it was different. The 10 year old me was so happy to welcome the 9th month of the year for it is the release of the first ever movie of my then favorite band and of course, it’s none other than *drum rolls* you guessed it right! One Direction! I’ll admit that my love for the band that time wasn’t that deep and I was claiming that I’m a hardcore Directioner. How funny right? That time I was a qualified “Carrot Directioner” or someone who was a fan of them just because they’re famous but I swear that my support was sincere back then! I cringe when I remember those times but at least the experience prepared me for rollercoaster ride that I’ll experience with my K-pop journey. (I’ll save this story for another time, if you’d love to hear it)
So going back, it was the release of This Is Us Movie here in the Philippines and I’m not a fan of movies but I was so decided that time that I’ll watch it on theaters and of course as a child, I had no one else to watch it except my mom so she had no choice but to accompany since I was really persistent. My memory isn’t that clear but if I remember it right, the movie was just available Ayala Malls and Marquee Mall was the nearest and most accessible venue for us and so it was a date with my mother. I was feeling nothing but excitement since it’s my favorite band’s movie and my first ever movie experience! Imagine my heart leaping as a kid who’s about to embark a new journey, yep I’m that exact kid that you can picture right now.
My family aren’t movie persons too (the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree indeed) and so that was probably the first time in a very long time that my mom entered a movie theater again which I think is the reason why she agreed too! Oh well, the 10 year old Mercy didn’t really care but the now 18 year old girl would love to know my mom’s feelings that time. I was so focused with the popcorn and drinks that I’ll be having and the boys that I’ll see as if I’ll see the live once I enter the movie theater HAHAHAHA.
The moment we entered, I was so ecstatic to settle down on my seat considering it was my first time pretending to be an expert ─ something an immature kid will definitely do to be honest. My mom isn’t exactly a fan of the group so her intentions back then was just to accompany me on my first ever movie experience and watch over me but seeing the lives of the boys changed her mind. So basically, the movie was about the boys and their concert tour life (based from what I remember) and it was a documentary of their journey as One Direction and that probably touched my mom’s heart for she was definitely interested in them even after months! Unexpected right?
I don’t remember the exact movie scenes but I remember how I felt that time and how happy I was to drag my mom with my fangirl thing and it’s the only thing that was retained on my brain. The chills from the movie and the aircon, how my mom constantly asked me questions about this and that, how I almost caused a rampage while waiting for our time slot, how the first ever movie that I saw on a theater became a memorable one. To be honest, I was not a fan of One Direction anymore after a year that This Is Us happened but seriously, they made that encounter an unforgettable one but my mom did most of the work though.
Looking back to this memory made me realize that movie dates aren’t about the movie itself, it’s always the experience with the one you’re watching it with. Who cares about the scenes if you’re agitated and uncomfortable right? It’s always the person you’re with and it includes yourself. Again and again, I’m not a movie person but I’ve seen movies alone without anyone else and it’s honestly a bliss since you’re free but I’ve seen movies with friends and family as well and it’s even more memorable! This was something that I didn’t know 7 years ago and so I took that opportunity for granted but it made me appreciate the times that I watched movies (which is once in a blue moon) and the encounter of that specific time.
It took me years before I understood how movie dates are special and that it isn’t about what you are watching but it’s about the memory you’ll have in the making. As a person who’s not into movies, I remember every single movie that I watched and who I’m with and that makes it even more special for me. The way they cried, the way they laughed, how the screen stole their attention for an hour and everything else, it’s a bliss. I highly appreciate watching movies which is probably why I’m not a movie person since I treat them specially and it’s all thanks to One Direction for releasing that film and introducing me to the movie world. I would’ve never expected that I’ll value movies this much but it’s definitely a good thing and I’m not even complaining.
