Anyone out there with HORRIBLE eczema? Or does your little one have it? This weather sucks sh*t for skin up here in Jersey. My Franki has it sooooo bad between the weather and some dairy she had. It's really awful... on her thighs mostly and she is always scratching because it itches so badly. Well!!!! I found the solution after a month of trying absolutely everything (including something from a line of Skincare I rep). Every morning and night I mix our very favorite @washwithwater lotion and a dime to quarter size amount of @jasonnaturalcare vitamin E skin oil (14,000 IU). I put it all over her but mostly target the areas with eczema. I use the oil for myself and thought why not give it a try because it's full of skin goodness. I'm so happy I tried because I'm really surprised how it's clearing up. I'm sure you could use any vitamin E oil with a natural lotion free of all the bad shit! Anyhow, give it a try and circle back to let me know how it goes. #washwithwater #jasonnatural #eczema #eczemarelief #eczemaremedy #naturaleczemarelief

Wash With Water Organic Baby Care Products vs. Johnson & Johnson
I've been thinking more about the shampoo and soap products I use (well, ever since Baby Benny has been in my belly), and wanted to point out a brand I really like - Wash with Water.  (This isn't endorsed).  I also like Dr. Bronner's soaps - especially the peppermint castle soap/shampoo because it makes my skin feel tingly clean!
I happened to come across the product at Earth Baby Boutique in Sherman Oaks, CA.  The founder was really nice and informative.  I was already using California Baby and Earth Mama Angel Baby products, but they were giving out samples and I found I really like their detangler - it's lavender and just smells so - feminine!  Makes me feel good that I'm not putting * knows what in my hair.

So tough with all the info out there today, saying EVERYTHING causes cancer. I even read plastic shower curtains and candles (the wick) the other day.  It's like, should I just live my life care-free since everything is potentially toxic? But I feel better using things I feel are more natural for me and the baby (which is why I avoided Johnson & Johnson Baby Products at all costs - gave away the sets I received at baby shower).
I still have A LOT OF RESEARCH to do on the product (and I will post more about this later after I've done some), but I've read we should stay away from: petrochemicals (petroleum based products seeping into head), phthalates (plastic), sulfates (apparently cancer causing, along with everything else I read about...), parabens (mimics estrogen in the body and apparently linked to cancer), synthetic colors, synthetic fragrance, TEA & DEA (linked to liver cancer), Silicons (hair loss, cancer), PEGS (Carcinogenic), Phenoxythanol (neurotoxin potential), Lactoperoxidase (for those with milk allergies), GMOs, Triclosan (impacts thyroid hormone), Synthetic Dyes...

Anyways, wash with water is free of all of the above questionable additives (see label compared to Johnson's Head to Toe wash, which contains: Water, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, PEG-150 Distearate, Tetrasodium EDTA, Sodium Chloride, Polyquaternium-10, Fragrance, Quaternium-15**, Citric Acid).  This article sums it up best: http://www.thesmartmama.com/ii-46/).
*Update: I do like the leave in conditioner, but it’s pretty expensive at $30 (and $7 shipping!).  The unscented baby shampoo and body wash doesn’t foam when washing hair, so it really is like washing with water, but I am not going to spend $ on it.  Instead, I’ve been using Dr. Bronner’s products (I like the peppermint liquid and bar soap; the baby mild bar soap is also nice).
"PEG-80 Sorbitan Laurate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate and PEG-150 Distearate are all ethoxylated compounds.  Ethoxylated compounds, unless vacuum stripped, are contaminated with 1,4-dioxane.  1,4-dioxane has been identified as a probable human carcinogen by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  1,4-dioxane is not listed on the ingredient list because it is a contaminant from the manufacturing process, not an ingredient.  The FDA encourages manufacturers to remove 1,4-dioxane from products, but there is no requirement that it be done.  And, testing reported by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics did find 1,4-dioxane in Johnson’s Head-to-Toe baby wash at 5.3 to 6.1 parts per million (ppm).  In fact, in its FAQ section of its website, Johnson & Johnson admits that “[s]ome of the ingredients in our products may contain 1,4-dioxane as an incidental ingredient at extremely low levels.” Further, sodium laureth sulfate can cause eye and skin irritation.  Do you think that is consistent with the claim that the product is “hypoallergenic”?  Wouldn’t you expect it to be free of any ingredient known to cause irritant responses?  As a note, sodium laureth sulfate was widely reported on the web as being a carcinogen, but, at least to date, research by the EPA, OSHA, NTP and IARC has not suggested that sodium laureth sulfate is a carcinogen.   Cocamidopropyl betaine, PEG-80 sorbitan laurate and PEG-150 disterate can all cause allergic reactions.  Again, these ingredients aren’t what you would expect in a product advertising itself as hypoallergenic.  Cocamidopropyl betaine may also be contaminated with nitrosamines. Quaternium-15 may release formaldehyde**.  Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen**.  But, I actually think that Quat-15, as it is called, is more of a problem because it is the number one cause of contact dermatitis from preservatives, according to the American Acadmey of Dermatology’s Testing Tray results.  Also, it is identified by the cosmetic industry’s Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel as a sensitizer, but is still considered safe by the CIR as a cosmetic ingredient.  (If you want to learn about the function of the CIR, I encourage you to read Stacy Malkan’s Not Just A Pretty Face).  It has also been linked to birth defects in laboratory animals when administered orally. Finally, the product contains “fragrance” – which means synthetic fragrance and, of course, phthalates.  Phthalates are used in fragrance to sustain the fragrance and make it adsorb better to the skin.  Johnson & Johnson admits that it uses diethyl phthalate (DEP) in its baby products.  And, as reported in a recent study, exposure to DEP in baby care products results in the presence of a DEP metabolite in baby urine.  Phthalates are endocrine disruptors, which means that they can mimic hormones and disrupt’s the body’s normal function.  Phthalates have been linked to premature breast development in girls, deteriorated sperm quality, low sperm counts and poor sperm morphology in men, and a host of other adverse health effects."
**Formaldehyde was taken out of the formula in  2013/2014 - it was labeled as quaternium-15
