Guy who wandered outside their relatively insular fandom composed of mainly beloved mutuals into a sea of people they’ve never seen before with the apparent reading comprehension of a 12 year old, comes back horrified at what they have seen
Adult PJO fans: "I can't relate to her if she doesn't look like me" "this is disrespectful to book!Annabeth" "I can't see her as the same character if she's black" "blonde, white women are soooo underrepresented in media. No one else can understand 😫"
Meanwhile, the actual demographic the show and books are for:
THEEEEE POINT of rand is that, in the end, the reason he's able to succeed where lews therin failed is NOT his power, it's his good heart and the support of his found family. in the end, he's not a warrior hero, he's a philosophical hero. rand's fight in the last battle is a fight of philosophy and ethics, and it's his friends who are out on the frontlines of the physical fighting, leading armies and protecting him.
so people complaining that the battle with ishy was changed from Solo Rand Power Trip To Show Why He Is More Special Than The Other Characters to a moment of all his friends gathering together to support him, protect him, fight with him, and remind him that he is not alone in this and that they're stronger when they're together...............i'm sorry, but i truly don't think you read the same books i did. (and before you come for me, rand is my second favorite character in the whole series after elayne, so don't come in here saying that i Just Don't Get It because i don't love him enough.)
I just realized that Alia has the Barons memories which means that she can access the male ancestral memory, which means that Alia is a female Kwisatz Haderach (which aren’t supposed to exist). This was either hand waved away in a line I forgot or simply never addressed because Frank Herbert was such a Straight Man.
Well that's extreme, but Ace and Jack's reactions are hilarious. This is the option that's kind of closer to how Mia is, but she's not crazy or desperate enough to swim to land herself. (She's got much more common sense than that.😂)
This is the other option you can pick for this scene, which pretty much cuts straight to the point (and pretty much has Grim dragging Mia along with him). Floyd's a stinker either way.
Catelyn saying that Sansa is pretty: Absolutely infallible, a declaration from god himself, it absolutely has to be the truth, there can be no room for argument, etc.
Ned saying that Arya is pretty: He was just doing it to make her feel better, he was just being nostalgic about Lyanna, he can't be trusted, he's biased because he's her father, etc.
I do not think it’s a good idea to keep Nia’s situation from the rest of the group. But the bitchy side of me is glad she doesn’t wanna tell anyone because I know the moment we do, it’ll become all about her again and MC’s issues will get pushed even further into the background 😑🤷🏽♀️
too much of a lorehead to agree with this, i fear. but have u considered how fucking funny it was to see c!inniters at the time bawling their eyes out only for c!tommy to be revived like 2 days later . bc that was HILARIOUS
I personally love to see differences between the show and the books
It’s not just an exact adaptation, it change to follow a new public, new ideas from the author(s)
It’s not a carbon copy of the books, and that’s not what we need, if we want the books we read them, here it’s a little different, it’s new, and I like that, a lot
I love to rediscover the story that I grew up with, it’s the same and at the same time some things are different and it just feel great to discover without knowing exactly everything, being able to talk with my friend who never read the book, telling him what is different, what isn’t in the show or what wasn’t in the book
I just love the show and living all the emotions like I did the first time when I read the book
i like my new job so much btw. i feel RELIED on and VALUED and my ideas are put into action... yesterday i spent hours going through a book list for ordering for teen workshop giveaways and i got to send an email where i talked about why i ruled out some books for being heteronormative/heavily gendered and had that opinion treated with value like hell yes. at my last job i sent a long email to higherups after a messy misgendering incident of a patient and got a couple thank you pats on the hand and not shit was done about the binary as hell systems
And when in Season 3 Episode 1, Annabeth takes out her ski cap and reveals her newly bleached and blonde dyed butterfly locks, both nodding at her book description and showing the pass of time and character's growth with the contrast, all while giving Percy an anxiety attack because OhZeus she look so pretty but he hasn't talked to her in months and last time they saw each other she kind of kissed him on the cheek and now he doesn't know how to talk to her and she's expecting them to DANCE?? with each OTHER??? while he's been avoiding to overthinking about her even though he misses her so much????,
