Not only did Walker return to our screens tonight but Walker Independence premiered! For those that may not know this is a Walker prequel taking us back to the 1800s to meet Cordell Walker's many greats grandma, and see how the Walker family established themselves in Texas.
This was excellent, I don't know if this will be the case for every episode but this looked and felt cinematic. And no shade but I do think the writing and style are of a higher quality than Walker's.
I really liked the little ties and Easter eggs to the original show like Hoyt's horse being named Cordell is fun, and the sheriff who is the main antagonist at the moment being a Davidson is interesting.
I hadn't seen Katherine McNamara's acting before but so far I'm really liking her as Abby Walker. And I'm so glad that they got Matt Barr to play Hoyt Rawlins in this version as well because he is just perfect in this role- no matter the era Hoyt is a troublemaker that we can't help but love. I love the bickering between Abby and Hoyt, Matt and Katherine have great chemistry.
I wish we had gotten more Calian but this is only the first ep I know we'll get more of him as the season continues and I look forward to every second; he is so pretty 😍
Knowing about it did not stop me from screaming in excitement the moment Mr. Mark Sheppard showed up on the screen. I think his scenes are the ones I'm most excited for 😆
Personally, I loved it, and I'm really looking forward to more. I'm actually probably gonna rewatch this episode again soon so 10/10 do recommend checking it out to those who like westerns.
