My feelings about Neuvifuri are so weird and complicated. Because, on one hand, I think they are so good on paper.
The unique and contrasting personalities of Neuvillette and Furina respectively, the way he gives her such a unique and powerful hydro vision, how she still goes to him when she needs help with something, they have a lot of synergy gameplay wise(or so I’ve heard), the soggy wet Neuvillette potential following the events of the Fontaine Archon Quest!-
It’s just a lot of really good stuff, in fact I’d go as far as to say that Neuvifuri has some of the best canon material in the game compared to other wildly popular ships(not to say that canon material is what determines the value of a pairing it’s just fun to ship something with a lot of it).
But on the other hand, there’s just one glaring issue with them, for me at least.
These two are so visually boring when put together.
Don’t get me wrong, they look good on their own, I have nothing against the designs themselves, but they hit the same beats color palette and clothing wise: white hair with blue accents wearing a dark blue suit, and it’s even more noticeable with Furina’s Ousia form which is the one she takes in the present.
It’s not that I think they look like they’re related or something stupid like that, it’s just that one of the things I find most interesting about ships is visual contrast created when they’re next to each other. This isn’t a universal rule by any means, but it’s definitely noticeable.
And as much as I like Furina and Neuvillette on paper I just have a hard time getting over the fact that they basically have the same color palette(not literally but you get what I mean) which is why I gravitate towards other ships with them even if they don’t have as much going for them canonically.
For example, look at how Navia and Neuvillette contrast each other! Navia’s yellow tones are close to orange and orange is opposite to blue on the color wheel so they look a lot more visually appealing to me.
Anyways, I just wanted to get this off my chest. I’ve been thinking about a Furina redesign where her color scheme is swapped - dark blue hair with white/pale clothing - so I may draw that one day.

💜Why I love Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE💜
Happy anniversary to my favorite video game I’ve gotten last year, and impacted my life for the better! For the anniversary, I’ve decided to do a list of why I love the game so much (alongside doing a separate post of ranking my top ten favorite Rain Code characters). Warning for Spoilers for anybody who hasn’t played the game before.
A Cyberpunk Noir/Dark Fantasy Mystery
I have been really getting into mystery novels for the last few years, been collecting and reading a lot of them pretty quickly. Just the suspense of what could happen and what mysteries lies for the characters and overarching narratives. And especially in rewatch with the context leads to new depths for the characters and world-building.
And one of my favorite aesthetics I love to view pictures of are Cyberpunk, especially with their color palettes having my favorite colors (pink, blue, and purple). Plus, the mixing of dark fantasy into the sci-fi setting makes it into a science fantasy hybrid genre, which I absolutely love. It leads to so much creativity in world-building and storylines and characters to be made. Combining that with the mysteries, it creates such an enriching environment and atmosphere that really draws me into the game before even playing it.
The Story
The thing that always gets me attached to the game are the storylines. Whether it’s the main storyline, the side quests we could do, or just the overarching narrative, I need the story to draw me in. Especially mystery stories on what mysteries lies ahead, and if they pay off well. And of course, they did! From the mystery of our protagonist’s amnesia and his deal with the Death God herself to the isolated city of endless rain to even the grand overarching Great Global Mystery that needs to be solved. The themes also really hit hard once you get to the end of the story, one of the biggest examples being “don’t handle everything on your own.” Which is super fitting for certain characters like Yuma, Makoto, and even Yakou. And the side mysteries were fun to solve of course, even if we only had a few to solve. Chapters 4 and 5 especially hits hard for obvious reasons. But of course, there’s also the side quests with little mysteries and character expansions and world-building that really also helps to make the city feel alive.
The World-Building
We only ever stayed in one setting, which is the isolated city of endless rain, Kanai Ward. Yet there is so much depth and character to the just one setting alone. From the different districts we explored with its own unique settings to the structure of the city to the many inhabitants that resides in the city. I mean, even if they don’t have names and only called by their genders and personality traits, the interactions with them reveals a lot of how living in an isolated city of rain ruled by a corrupt police force and corporation. And the kinds of interests and backstories they have, even if it’s just by little crumbs. Honestly makes the side quests more important since they help to flesh the world-building and the city itself much more than the main story can give. (Plus Kanai Ward’s OST is the perfect song to listen to over and over again).
And even outside the city, there is many world-building that really leaves a lot of questions and rooms for exploration and expansion. Like that there are people with paranormal powers like the Master Detectives (and makes you wonder if there’s more besides Master Detectives). Or that there is a literal unified government in the world, meaning there is much original world-building to be found. Or if there is more supernatural forces besides the Death God and spirits in the world. It leaves room for more side contents to expand the world of Rain Code, or add something like vampires in fanfictions or something. Though I’m really hoping for more side contents of the game like the Japanese mangas that hopefully could get translated to English soon.
The Characters
And of course, what clings me to the game and its story the most are absolutely the characters we followed along. Yuma Kokohead, the kind-hearted yet anxious ‘trainee’ detective, the dirty-mouthed yet tough loved Shinigami, the cowardly yet loyal Chief Yakou, the unique misfits of the Nocturnal Detective Agency, the mysterious yet silly Makoto Kagutsuchi, and even the adorable high school informant, Kurumi Wendy. Following their journeys, seeing them bond together, seeing their struggles, learning more about their backstories and motivations and characters overall, it makes me grow attached to all of them and want to see more of them. Of course, some of them took a while for me to warm up too like Shinigami, or see past some certain flaws that were over-exaggerated for comedy for some reasons (*ahem* Desuhiko *ahem*). I do plan to go more in-depth on my liking of the characters in my top ten list of the Rain Code characters.
As one of the writers’ sayings I follow by, “Characters are what drives the stories.” I wouldn’t love the stories I followed if it weren’t for the characters we were following, and seeing them fall and rise from the challenges. And I especially wouldn’t want to write fanfictions about them if these characters were bland and unlikeable.
Writing Rejuvenation
I have been writing and planning to publish fanfictions for a long time for other medias, but I never ended up finishing them due to my time in real life, the fics I planned being pretty big, and my wavering motivations. It honestly started to feel like it became a stale routine of just planning fanfictions, but never write them out fully. Until I played the video game, become attached with the characters, and came up with many one-shots that can be done quicker than my other fanfictions. These one-shots were fun practice to write full short stories and finally be able to complete them, and practice my writing style.
I have many fanfictions planned out still, including one for a Rain Code anniversary prompt week in just a few days, and a bunch of AUs as well that while may take time, are ones I hope to publish in the future, whether far or near.
The Fandom
I am definitely going to get mushy over this, but this is one of the main reasons why I remain attach to the game, which is the fandom. Although small, they are full of kind and talented people that I love to interact with, or see their talented works in fanfictions, edits, and/or fan arts. I hope in the future I could interact with more of them, and hopefully stay friends for a long time. And I’m excited for many creative works and interactions that I hope to come, and possibly more that will come in the future (as long as they’re good people and not toxic shippers or homophobic or anything else).

Insiders (2023) - redrawn from 2019
(rambling under the cut)
thank you tumblr for compressing my image down to disgusting crusty poop pixels on the app
i love to do a new big reference piece for my babies every few years, and the time has finally come due… and WOW !!! LOOK AT THAT IMPROVEMENT !!! everyone looks Normal And Alive and Non Bugeyed !!! everyone is a little less pasty white (im talking about you, tanith) !!! i think they all show a lil bit of nice personality in their faces now too which is lovely for me. i love to see my children happy. now to write about each of them
angelo’s line art has the least effort into it here and i was GONNA redraw him but honestly if anyone is going to look like a scrunkly little bug IT IS GOING TO BE HIM !!!!!! It’s been a minute since i’ve drawn his body-saws and on a whim i made them red AND !!! IT WORKS !!! I’M A FAN !!! i think he’s due for a main-outfit change though. not sure. i struggled with finding him a natural-looking skin color too because i’ve slowly made him as a person less undead-corpse-like and i think i’ve found a good spot. for now.
i pulled the perfect angora out of my mind and honestly i am shocked at what i have created. she looks so sweet and kind and innocent here (as she should) that to any unfamiliar observers you’d be hard pressed to tell she’s a big lazy gross vulgar piece of shit rat of a fishwoman. and that is EXACTLY how it should be. i have lost the plot for too long, giving her more sharp edges and a hunched back and wild expressions, but the standard angora really should be deceptively pretty. because that’s my girl.
Mila looks great as always. What more can I say? She’s always perfect. I had fun giving her lips for the first time!
AMPH … MY ADISHESHA … (slamming my fist down) I’ve finally perfected him… isn’t he pretty? isn’t he so pretty? I chose to draw him in his naga/incarnated form instead of the shadow form this time because i wasn’t lazy. I decided to throw a big coat on him, originally intended to be more lab coat-y, but influenced by how fucking cold it is outside i allowed myself to give him a big fur collared one. because if you can’t tell i love giving characters though. i think it worked out well for AMPH here, and now I have to be putting him in all sorts of cowls and capes until the end of time.
TANITH !!!!!!!! GGGGYRRRRAAAAHHHHH!!!! LOOK AT MY GIRL !!!!!!! I’M FERAL OVER THIS!!!!!! LOOK AT MY IMPROVEMENT !!!!!!! it’s been a hot minute since i’ve colored her, but i changed her palette in my mind a while ago AND looking at it here ? existing ? i’ve done it again. My lovely little sword daughter … i know i JUST doodled her but christ something was in the water here because SHE LOOKS SO GOOD. this is the best ive drawn any of them. i gave her some nice clothes this time instead of her usual big t-shirt because i realized i only gave her that in the past because i didn’t know how to draw clothes.
speaking of “best ive ever drawn any of them” somnus … THIS IS HIM … i’ve gotten close to capturing him in all the times i’ve drawn him but i think i’ve finally pinned him down here. and of course, he’s hitting the same pose as his wife because they’re cute like that. i ripped his colors straight from the solo reference piece i made for him a while back which has held up quite wonderfully.
FINALLY !!! SETH IS HERE !!! HE HAS ARRIVED IN PROPER INSIDERS GROUP ART !!! he looks pretty good here. i think he could still look BETTER, but for the purpose of having a nice group reference piece he looks pretty great i think. I struggled pinning down some colors for his clothes and was pretty lazy with the Purple Under His Hair That Glows BUT WHO CARES !!!! LOOKS GOOD TO ME !!! LOOK AT MY HANDSOME SON !!! i also decided to stick his full name on here that i’ve kept vaulted up for the reason that i’ve never had to put it anywhere before. if you know why he has “-zoe adamiel” as his chosen full name, congrats, you’re a huge fucking nerd.
eventually, i’m probably going to tack daisy, kane, sampi and demiurge onto the right side of this piece, but that’s for another day down the line. thanks for reading!

Entry: Gilandit (He-lan-dit)
(Gila monster + Bandit/ Vigilante)
Poison/Fire
The Desperado Pokémon
Ability: True Grit* (an ability exclusive to Gilandit- Prevents status conditions such as Poison, infatuation, paralysis, etc.)/Corrosion/ Quick Draw(HA)
Special move: Gunk Slinger*- strikes by flinging poison two times. Deals 40 damage each pass and inflicts poison status.
—Evolves from a male Salandit with the ability Oblivious, max friendship and full food status in Pokémon Camping—
Pokédex: this Pokémon stores nutrients from meals in its tail. It utilizes this energy to find food for its posse of Salandit. It is not particularly fond of Salazzle.
It commands a posse of Salandit to find food and attack prey. Once the prey is cornered, Gilandit then finishes the attack. It often steals food from human settlements.
This Pokémon evolved from Salandit who stole extra food from Salazzle. It’s saliva exudes a strong noxious musk that it spits to mark its territory (this musk has been known to overpower the effects of Salazzles pheromones). It is viciously protective of its posse and will relentlessly hunt down offenders.
Using its own toxic smelling saliva, it affixes one of its own scales to each of its members of Salandit as both posse affiliation and as a deterrent to rival gangs of both other Gilandit and Salazzle.
It secretes a highly toxic poison from its claws, which it flings at prey and foes with blinding speed and pinpoint accuracy. It then takes advantage of the quickly disoriented foe and finishes the attack.
Disputes between Gilandit are settled in a test of will and speed where competing Gilandit will stand bipedal and flare up their tails to intimidate the other. When this does not work, both will commence a quick draw where one will try to blind the other with their Gunk Slinger ability and proceed to attack. This practice is often reflected in old western movies.
——————————
When this idea hit me- I had to roll with it. I honestly LOVE Salandit. It’s just so cute.🥰
Personally speaking, I’m not a Salazzle fan for various reasons- though I must say that it’s Pokédex entries got me to thinking: What if a Male Salandit was properly cared for/was able to take care of itself?
So on that thought, I decided to go the fun route and, instead of simply becoming a male Salazzle, a completely new Pokémon was born!
I occasionally tinker with the idea of a fan made region- and always thought of an old west kind of region. Combining that with my what if- Gilandit’s form came naturally.
Based off of old western gunslingers, life was hard and often an “every man for himself” situation. In my Region, life would be rough for a little Salandit, food would be often hard to come by, and giving it all to another Pokémon could be life threatening, so some might take the rogue road and fend for themselves.
((As to why there’s two shiny forms- I ended up liking these two out of the batch and couldn’t decide. And then I remembered Shield and Sword introduced “ultra shinies”, which disappointed me actually. They only have a different shiny animation- in my region some pokemon have two color palettes, one being rarer than the other.))
Thanks to my friend miss-dnl in helping me finalize its design ^^~ 💕
