I've been finding out more about this on various sites, and it does look like they are trying to give a crappy driver to bridge the standard, and full functionality may not exist under anything but the new standard. im just hoping this doesnt lead to future usb controllers being xna compatible but not hid (unless it gets opened up/ported or whatever i guess). its supposed to provide a standard set of controls that can be used with both the 360 and windows, and i guess extensible to new controller products that would be compatible with both as well, following that standard.of which hid compliancy has no part afaik, even though it could all be done with plain hid compatible stuff probably. i think it might have something to do with xna (sort of a windows/x360 middleware). PS4 vs. Xbox One

Okay, it’s 2017 and you’re looking to buying a PS4 or Xbox One but you’re unsure of what you want to buy, then we’re here to help you out with your little problem. The PS4 and the Xbox one has been out for quite some time and they have gotten a lot of upgrades and revisions to them to make them operate better, faster and have more storage. Let’s start with the PS4. Last year Sony came out with the PS4 slim, PS4 Pro and the Playstation VR. On Microsoft’s behalf is the Xbox One, Xbox One S and later this year the Project Scorpio, which is probably the 4K console which will be Microsoft’s answer to the PS4 Pro.

The PS4 Slim is a smaller version of the regular PS4 launched back in late 2014. The specs of the slim are exactly the same as the with the original PS4 except for the fact that the PS4 slim lacks an optical audio output, this means if someone has a dedicated audio system they may have problems with the slim. Next up is the PS4 Pro. This model is an upgraded model of the regular and slim versions of the PS4, with an upgraded GPU, 4K output capability and unlike the PS4 slim; an optical output. This version of the PS4 is thicker and larger than its regular counterpart but still retains 2 USB 3.0 ports and the light bar indicator which the PS4 slim lacks. Lastly the Playstation VR, which requires a PS4 to operate. The screen is an OLED display with a resolution of 1920 x RGB x 1080(960 x RGB x 1080) and an integrated microphone. Both models of the PS4 have 1tb of storage and as a bonus the PS4 slim has a 500gb model as well.

Now for Microsoft’s Xbox One S, it is a slimmed down version of the original Xbox One with 4K capability and 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray playback support in which the PS4 Pro lacks. The Xbox One S’ designs are not too far from the original Xbox One and the most notable change on the console’s cosmetics is that there are hundred of machined holes on one half of the console rather than the diagonal line and slits, and the USB ports are now in front of the console rather than the side. Next up on the list is the upcoming Project Scorpio. Although not yet released we have information about the upcoming console, 4K equipped, an 8 core CPU, a graphics card with 6TFLOPs of power, and 320GB/sec of memory bandwidth. The reveal of the Project Scorpio will be on E3 2017 on June 11 so stay tuned for that. Sadly the Xbox one has no VR support currently. The Xbox One S comes in 500gb models and 1tb models. Both the PS4 Pro, PS4 Slim and the Xbox One S have upgradeable storage so just keep that in mind.

As for controllers, the PS4 Pro controller slightly differs from the original controller. Only having the light bar on the top of the touch pad rather than at the back of the controller. The Xbox One S controllers have a much more grippy texture on the grips so that it would stay longer on hands during longer play sessions, and the controller has twice the range of the original Xbox One controller. The Xbox One S controller is compatible with Windows 10 PCs, tablets and phones via Bluetooth.

Lastly is game exclusivity, apps for the consoles and compatible games. Both the PS4 Pro and Slim and the Xbox One S’ past game library are compatible with them, however the Xbox One S has backwards compatibility. Which means that certain Xbox 360 titles will work with the Xbox One S. The PS4 on the other hand has backwards compatibility but not the backwards compatibility of the Xbox One S, the alternative for the PS4 is Playstation Now. It is a game streaming service that is capable of playing select titles for a price while the Xbox One S doesn’t need extra funds to play a game you owned in the past, all you need is the game disc and you’re all set. Both of the features need internet connection to use but for the Xbox One S, you only need internet to download the game and for the PS4 you need fast internet to retain the game’s high quality resolution. For game exclusivity both consoles have their own unique console exclusive titles like Uncharted 4, Killzone Shadowfall, InFamous: Second Son, The Last Of Us and the new and upcoming reboot of God of War for the PS4, on the side of the Xbox One S games are: Gears of War, Halo, Forza Motorsport 5, Sunset Overdrive and Ryse: Son of Rome. Now for DLCs (downloadable content), some games give early DLC access to either the PS4 or the Xbox due to deals with the developers, like Call of Duty. In 2015 Activision, the developers of Call of Duty, has partnered with Sony instead of Microsoft for the 2015 title Black Ops 3. In previous titles Activision was partnered with Microsoft for early access to DLC but in 2015 PS4 owners now got a taste of what early DLC felt like after a long period of time.

In conclusion, the Xbox One has went by leaps and bounds since its launch. The change in focus and the philosophy since Phil Spencer became the head of the Xbox organization has worked wonders for gaming and there is the anticipation for the first glimpse at the Scorpio. However, it's also hard to not like the raw power of the PS4. Though it may lack the backwards compatibility of Xbox One, Sony is investing in the future with VR tech, and PlayStation VR promises to deliver an incredibly exciting future for gaming. We recommend the Xbox One S for its backwards compatibility however it may really just depend on your taste of exclusive games, be it those of Playstation or Xbox.
