Some researchers were inclined to believe that the so-called “black shamanism” (which included abaaky oyuun, siemeh oyuun) originated from female shamanism. The Udagankas really did not belong to the light shamans (aiyy oyuuna) or algyschyts. As a rule, they did not marry and did not have children, but there are cases when a woman fell ill with a shamanic disease while being the mother of a family. The stereotypical opinion that shamans should be ugly and unsociable is not entirely true. There are many legends that talk about the beauty and special feminine energy of udagankas.
