LAST TIME ON RANGER ACADEMY: Turns out Sage wasn't the only one with a tragic backstory, as Tula had an older sister from the Academy, a Green Ranger, who died in a shuttle crash with her entire class (you know, for kids!). Unfortunately if there's one thing Dark Specter loves it's the angst from a tragic backstory, so now he's here. Sage is going to need the power of every dead dad and dead sister that ever stepped foot in the Green Campus to beat him!

= Is Lindy blushing in that second panel because that's just confirming to me this scene is gay as hell and Sage/Lindy WILL dodge the sisterzoning allegations and they WILL be canon!!!!!!!!!!!!

= Also Mathis isn't so much a "yellow ranger" as they are a......yellow ochre ranger. Especially when they're right next to Katie's suit like that

= Technicalities like "so what does this mean about Greens on other teams" or "what about non-MMPR colors" aside, I do think the explanation for why the Green Campus is closed and why the Academy refuses to talk about it is good (which we'll get to later on). But this whole thing does make me realize we have no explanation for how Dark Specter is like. still around. Especially now that we're confirming this isn't meant to be tying into the main series and he's popping in from that timeline. He's just. Still a thing. Over 3000 years after he died. BOOM I need you to stop acting like Dark Specter is a bigger deal than he really was. He died when a spaceship exploded on him

= This scene is really good and I'm glad Sage and Lindy aren't going to have a dramatic friend breakup over this situation but I do kind of wish Lindy had responded to the whole "MAYBE I'M EVIL BECAUSE I'M GREEN" with "dude, why was that the first conclusion you came to. it's literally just a color"

= Kind of a skill issue by the Academy to not realize the kid was infected like. We know what infected people look like from Darkest Hour; how did they miss the glowing red eyes and the black veins and their speech balloons being all gray and wobbly

= Speaking of Darkest Hour, as stated, we know from that and Power Rangers Universe that possession by Dark Specter isn't a death sentence. But I do have to admit even just the characters believing it is makes the whole concept a lot darker than it was it both of those series. Which is funny considering this is the book marketed more for kids

= Don't make that face while brushing off a student's death by another student's hands Headmaster people might start to think you're evil or something

Finally finished the Virche FD a few days ago and just wanted to write down a few thoughts/mini-review on it. Vague spoilers only below.

Started off by playing through the short story section of which there are about 8 pages or so of. There were lots of fun fluffy ones (I especially enjoyed the ones that are just the guys talking at Adolphe’s place), ones that fill in gaps or are POV stories of side characters, there are a LOT of CG’s in this section. There’s even stories that are after stories of the side bad ends from the OG game too for all the bad end lovers. Overall thought it was an interesting range of cute stories to some rather disturbing/dark ones.

Did the encore section next, which are basically alternate routes that start from a certain point in the original game and end the story in a completely different way. I do rather have mixed thoughts on the encores. Played Lucas’s first since he was my first route in the first game too and after playing all of them definitely feel his was the best one of the lot. Although it was still bittersweet, there were still a lot of good moments and parts where I cheered because they overturned some of the more awful things to happen in the OG route.

Aside from Lucas, also really enjoyed Yves’ route too, although I wouldn’t say it’s necessarily a ‘happier’ version of the OG either it still had some great scenes. Mixed thoughts on Scien’s route, I think people that are interested in a mad scientist Scien might like it but unfortunately it wasn’t really for me. I thought the main end was kind of cute but the bad endings really broke Scien’s image to me and I ended up really disliking him. Mathis’ route as a whole had me reeling and I actually had to take a break and play something else for a while. Truly the epitome of And It Got Worse. For Adolphe, I feel like he already had a good end in the first game, so unfortunately his encore was kind of mediocre in comparison.

The after salvation ends for the most part did not disappoint, with one exception I was really happy with all of them. Some nice romantic CG’s and moments, and also a tying up of loose plot ends from the original game. I also really liked how characters got new sprite outfits which was fun. Those after despair ends though…Yves and Mathis’s in particular were pretty disturbing imo. I actually thought Adolphe had the most interesting despair after end, definitely did a great job of portraying true never-ending despair.

The Drifter route was an enjoyable side story and also kind of functions as an origin story for Ankou as well which makes sense as it needs to be played before unlocking Ankou’s route. His and Ankou’s interactions and friendship was a lot of fun to watch and the ending was pretty touching too.

And last of all, just have to gush about Ankou’s route. Absolutely one of the best routes I’ve played in any otome game so far and will probably remain so. Especially after playing through some of the  more gruelling routes in the FD, it was a really enjoyable experience. I think there’s also just something so cathartic about seeing the series’ most long-suffering character finally get the happiness he deserves. Ankou and Ceres at the beginning are two people that don’t really see the value in their own lives, and to see that slowly start to change as their relationship develops and they meet other people on their journey was really heartwarming. I teared up a lot at the explanation of the game title “Epic Lycoris” in the epilogue too, just a really special and amazing route to cap off the series.

Overall, Ankou’s route aside, I will say that people that are expecting lots of fluff or a fix it fic type of thing for the original routes because it’s an FD will probably end up disappointed. It is a fan disc but it’s also very much still Virche so I would say to temper your expectations and you’ll probably end up with much more than you think. Definitely been a wild ride at times and while some parts were hard to get through, am really sad to say goodbye to the characters.  All in all, well worth a playthrough if you enjoyed the original game.

If Harry Styles and his backup dancers looked a little out of it during their performance at Sunday’s Grammys, there’s good reason.

The shiny red turntable the group danced on (similar to the one in Styles’ “As It Was” music video) spun in the wrong direction after 10-days of rehearsals, according to some of the performers.

Styles, who won album of the year for “Harry’s House,” and his dancers appeared a bit confused and almost zombie-like as they started their routine.

One dancer, who goes by Dexdexrevolution, posted rehearsal details and backstage videos, only to return after the show with an update on what happened.

“I just wanted to share a story about our performance with Harry Styles at the Grammys yesterday,” Dexter said, explaining that designers made “this beautiful piece on this moving turntable” that held 12 people.

“We rehearsed for ten days … getting down these beautiful formations,” the dancer added, calling the moves “morphing” “rolling” and “artistic” – all practiced moving counterclockwise.

At dress rehearsal, it was “spotless, beautiful,” Dexter said, explaining that making the patterns while on a moving stage and having “all this spacial awareness is a wild challenge.”

But the night of the show, “we get on stage for the performance, the performance starts and the turn table starts going the wrong way.”

While the group tried to get the turntable technician’s attention as Styles sang, they had no luck.

“To switch all these patterns around on the spot having not even walked in that direction,” was difficult Dexter said, adding that the dancers were being pulled in different directions.

“Harry did his best and tried to walk in reverse and reverse in his entire duet,” Dexter added.

While some critics called the performance “lethargic” or “boring,” the dancer said “we were tying to stay standing.”

Brandon Mathis, another dancer who performed on Sunday with Styles, said in an Instagram story that set mix up confused the dancers.

“What you don’t know is that the moment the curtain opened and it was time to perform, our turntable started spinning in reverse,” Mathis said in an Instagram story. “Backwards. Freaking all of us out on live television, and there was nothing we could do to stop it. In real time, we had to troubleshoot and try to do a complete piece in reverse. Talk about professionalism.”

Mathis captioned the post, “things they don’t teach you- how to forsee the unseen and still turn it out.”

All right I’m sorry but the biggest thought in my mind after finishing that route is, “if evil, why hot?” Because honestly, JEAN…! Jean oh man why is he so attractive? It’s gotta be the butler outfit and the long hair… the uncanny resemblance to linhardt from fe3h is unreal. Why do all the recent otome guys I like recently look like characters from that game seriously??

I knew this bitch was gonna be evil though, he was too good… that or he was gonna die horribly sooo… damn I’m still mad he’s evil 😂 WHY?!? I SO WANTED TO ROMANCE YOU MAN

But oh… Mathis sweetie you’re such a cutie I’m so sorry you’re in this game 💀 like I knew things were sus, but ooh yikes at some of the ending scenes lmao

Can I just say though, the CG of him as a lady? WOW HOT MOMMA, literally thought a new character had suddenly shown up for a second 💅 (the kiss CG looks so goofy though 😂) and even though the context for the last CG is big big yikes… damn hello sir, what tying up long hair does to a mf 👀

Also, just the thought that none of Mathis’s reasons for going after Bourreau were real is hilarious?? Like this bitch ran him over with a car over nothing??? Bourreau probably over here thinking “why tf is this child on my ass so hard????” 😂

Tbh it’s actually not as depressing as I thought it would be given all the trigger warnings and how other people were hyping it up? I guess the baseline for otome games is just waaaaay nicer than I thought it was LOL, I think maybe I’ve been spoiled by even if tempest because I’ve made that my new standard oops

Like, nier automata/replicant was definitely more depressing by the end… though I’ve only done one route so maybe I’ll feel differently after all of them! It’s pretty lighthearted so far besides the violence 🤔

And now I don’t know if I wanna start Lucas right away or let Mathis stew for a bit… I did end up liking Mathis more as a character than I thought I would! But the allure of Daisuke Hirakawa is very strong, mcfucking saint germain still has a vice grip on my ass, and to have another long haired religious man that is secretly some kind of super-human killer? (Mfs didn’t even try to hide Bourreau like COME ON they literally have the same sprite pose?! Also I see those pointy teeth, sus as hell… if it turns out this was a red herring though and he’s *NOT* Bourreau or deeply involved in some way? I’ll eat my pants because damn they got me) 😂

Yes, yes, yes!!! I never thought about his thighs in the Dr. Mathis kill, but now I am! I love that moment with Laurie and how they're both dressed like Michael in their own way. Laurie's window POV has strong Shape energy to me. They're both just standing and staring like michael. In the novelization, the end ominously hints Laurie could be shape-ified like Corey was.
