Brother (not your usual Bro!)

Having an elder brother is often considered a pain in the ass for the younger sibling but it is actually a blessing in disguise. You have a full time partner for games, pranks and fighting. Things get a bit difficult when you have a perfect big brother who is good at everything he does and that makes your life difficult because expectations from you are increased significantly. I personally tried to follow my brother’s big footsteps almost everywhere but damn this guy is 6 feet tall and I fell short a few inches. He acted like test cases for life complex algorithms, if the program was successful then  the same algorithm was applied to me. I know I was a messed up kid growing up (Story for another time maybe) but having a mentor like him really guided me through all the fears of life. When he turned 18 and left for college in another city, I remember everyone crying and I didn’t shed a tear. In my mind I was getting my own room, own table, own computer but I realized pretty soon when I looked at side and I had lost my room-mate, when I looked at the study table with an empty chair, when there was nobody to beat me at NFS Most wanted. I changed my school during this time and lost all my school friends (like my introverted nature had many friends :D) and losing my partner left me all alone in this harsh world. For the first time in my life I ate food alone, no bicycle races from school, no driver to enjoy rides, no one to share boiled egg or chyawanprash, no one to explain school homework and most importantly knowing that I don’t have a big brother in school now (Chill, I wasn’t into fights and all :D and even if I was he will probably give a lecture to avoid fighting). I still remember we recorded our favorite songs on cassettes from Radio by pressing record and stop button at perfect timings. Fight for favorite song was yours ‘tuhi meri shab hai’ vs my ‘ya ali’. I think we can bith agree they were mediocre songs. I still think I am stronger than you in math (if you don’t compare marks :D). I actually saw your cry for the first time when you were leaving MNIT and I came to your hostel as part time kooli to carry you and your things back home. When you were leaving the hostel and the memories behind (I remember the wall with the names and rank), I immediately rushed down the memory lane back towards when you left for college. When the train started from Prayagraj (Then Allahabad) I could see the sobbing eyes of you and your friends. I saw my best bud leaving for college and a blossomed flower returning back home. Life made us busy, you with your interviews and me with college, we didn’t really had time to ask how life is. Finally after college I came for a month getaway at Guwahati, mostly to drive the beast HIMALAYAN but also to see my brother as a Govt Officer. I had the best time staying in your hostel and the bike trip towards the clouds was one of the most cherished moments of 2017. Slowly and steadily I became so matured that I started giving you advises and the moment you appreciated it, I was on cloud nine. When you sacrificed your MBA goals because of me and I didn’t even appear for CAT till now :P .Still all my financial decisions are approved by you and thanks for the recent bike loan. All I wanted to say was HAPPY BIRTHDAY BHAIJAAN and leh ladakh bike trip ka plan final karo.

This is so hard!! I’d have to say “Tuhi Meri Shab Hai” or “Tum Se Hi” bc they’re my and my husband’s favorite Hindi love songs. But if I had to pick English, it would be Aretha Franklin’s “Natural Woman”. It just gets me in a great ass mood
