*** In a newly released transcript of his testimony, T-rump Jr. repeatedly couched his answers about that June 2016 T-rump Tower meeting by saying he did not “remember” or that he didn’t “recall” certain things. Even when he was pretty sure, he'd say “not that I recall” or something like that. The result was a pretty cagey piece of testimony.  ***

Click Here To Subscribe: https://goo.gl/Jak4Sa Donald Trump Jr. met with a Russian lawyer with ties to the Kremlin during the 2016 presidential campaign, after being promised damaging information about Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, The New York Times reported on Sunday. President Trump’s son attended the meeting with the expectation that he would receive compromising information about his father’s opponent, three advisers to the White House briefed on the meeting and two other sources with knowledge of the matter told the Times. Then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort and President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner also attended the meeting with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya, which was recently disclosed after confidential government documents were described to the New York Times. It is unclear whether Veselnitskaya provided the promised information about Clinton, the Times noted, but wrote that accounts of this meeting “represent[s] the first public indication that at least some in the campaign were willing to accept Russian help.” Trump Jr. said in a statement to the paper on Sunday that he had met with Veselnitskaya at the request of an acquaintance and denied that he received any information on Clinton. A spokesman for the president’s lawyer told the Times that “the president was not aware of and did not attend the meeting.” Veselnitskaya told the Times in a Saturday statement that “nothing at all about the presidential campaign” was discussed. She “never acted on behalf of the Russian government,” she said, and “never discussed any of these matters with any representative of the Russian government.” “After pleasantries were exchanged, the woman stated that she had information that individuals connected to Russia were funding the Democratic National Committee and supporting Ms. Clinton,” Trump Jr. said in his statement. “Her statements were vague, ambiguous and made no sense. No details or supporting information was provided or even offered. It quickly became clear that she had no meaningful information.” He said they then talked about American adoptions of Russian children. “It became clear to me that this was the true agenda all along and that the claims of potentially helpful information were a pretext for the meeting.” Trump Jr. told the paper. He also said in his statement to the Times that Kushner and Manafort attended the meeting at his request, and were not aware of the purpose of the meeting. The spokespeople and lawyers for Kushner and Manafort did not immediately respond to the newspaper’s requests for comment. Trump’s eldest son — who was working as a surrogate for the campaign at the time — met with the lawyer at Trump Tower in early June, two weeks after his father had clinched the Republican nomination. The U.S. intelligence community has determined that Russian hackers worked to sway the election in favor of Trump. Several congressional committees and the Department of Justice are probing Russia’s interference in the 2016 contest and possible ties between the Trump campaign and Moscow.    *** Rob Goldstone told the committee that his client, the Russian pop star and developer Emin Agalarov, had insisted he help set up the meeting between pres-ident T-rump’s son and the lawyer during the campaign to pass along material on Clinton, overriding Goldstone’s own warnings that the meeting would be a bad idea.“He said, ‘it doesn’t matter. You just have to get the meeting,’ ” Goldstone, a British citizen, testified.    The intensity with which Agalarov and his father, the billionaire Aras Agalarov, sought the T-rump Tower meeting, which has become a key point of scrutiny for congressional inquiries and special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, was revealed in more than 2,500 pages of congressional testimony and exhibits released by the Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday morning. ...    The testimony also sheds light on the anxiety that rippled through pres-ident T-rump’s orbit a year later, as news of the meeting became public and his aides and lawyers tried to manage the story.    The testimony also includes new details about T-rump’s long interest in building business ties to Russia and a relationship with President Vladimir Putin. ***

*** Grassley warned in January that the release of a different politically volatile transcript — of the committee's interview with the co-founder of the firm that commissioned a now-famous dossier on President Donald T-rump's Russian connections — might imperil the panel's prospects of getting voluntary compliance from Kushner. Democrats, however, have long pressed for public hearings to compel testimony from Kushner and further testimony from T-rump Jr., both of whom they described as failing to comply with document requests. ***

*** Rick Gates has appeared to be a relatively minor figure in the Trump/Russia probe. But if he were to plead guilty to criminal charges connected to his earlier work as a lobbyist for a pro-Kremlin party in Ukraine, including allegations of money laundering, it would set off a chain of events that could bring Mueller’s investigation deep into the White House. ***

*** Special counsel Robert Mueller's interest in Jared Kushner has expanded beyond his contacts with Russia and now includes his efforts to secure financing for his company from foreign investors during the presidential transition, according to people familiar with the inquiry.    This is the first indication that Mueller is exploring Kushner's discussions with potential non-Russian foreign investors, including in China. ...    During the presidential transition, Kushner was a lead contact for foreign governments, speaking to "over fifty contacts with people from over fifteen countries," according to a statement he gave to congressional investigators.    Before joining the administration, Kushner was also working to divest his interests in Kushner Companies, the family company founded by his father. In early 2017,  Kushner also divested from the 666 Fifth Avenue property that his family's company purchased in 2007 for $1.8 billion. The interests were sold to a family trust that Kushner does not benefit from, a spokesperson said at the time. ***

*** It’s still possible that Mueller will indict Americans for knowingly helping Russia, according to a person familiar with the investigation. ...    Asked if Trump officials had been "duped" by the Russians, Rosenstein, said, “The defendants took extraordinary steps to make it appear that they were ordinary American political activists.”Still, implicit in Rosenstein’s words - and his appearance to announce the indictment - was an endorsement of the work of Mueller, who like Rosenstein has faced intense scrutiny of his work. ***

*** "There is already, in my view, ample evidence in the public domain on the issue of collusion if you're willing to see it," Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif, told reporters at a newsmaker breakfast, hosted by the Christian Science Monitor. "If you want to blind yourself, then you can look the other way."  ***

*** Now The New York Times is reporting his lawyers don’t want T-rump to speak to Robert Mueller for fear that he will perjure himself. Seriously, their preventive defense is that T-rump can’t talk to Mueller because everyone knows he’ll get caught in lies.  That was enough to set off MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, who looked directly at the camera to let his No. 1 fan know that his (T-rump’S) own lawyers think he’s too stupid to testify. ***

*** Mr. Trump’s decision about whether to speak to prosecutors, expected in the coming weeks, will shape one of the most consequential moments of the investigation. Refusing to sit for an interview opens the possibility that Mr. Mueller will subpoena the president to testify before a grand jury, setting up a court fight that would drastically escalate the investigation and could be decided by the Supreme Court.    Rejecting an interview with Mr. Mueller also carries political consequences. It would be certain to prompt accusations that the president is hiding something, and a court fight could prolong the special counsel inquiry, casting a shadow over Republicans as November’s midterm elections approach or beyond into the president’s re-election campaign.***

*** In public appearances and on Twitter, Trump Jr. has taken an increasingly caustic tone, mocking critics and shoving himself into the scrum of the country's most polarizing debates.  It's an unorthodox legal strategy for someone under scrutiny by congressional investigators, whose every word could be used against him. But the approach fits with the real estate executive's growing public persona as a right-wing provocateur and ardent defender of Trumpism.  ***   *** The heir apparent of the fourth reich? ***

*** "We are in a real testing time for democracy," said Thomas Mann, a scholar at the Brookings Institution. "You really have to go back to Watergate to find anything of this scope and dimension."
*** Former Democratic strategist David Axelrod liked to say that presidential campaigns provide MRIs of candidates' souls. The corollary is that criminal investigations can similarly expose the hidden malignancies of Washington.
*** The release of the charges followed the disclosure last week that a prominent Democratic lawyer and a news outlet backed by a major Republican donor had at different times paid a firm that compiled opposition research on Trump alleging ties to Russian interests that could threaten national security. ***
