Your letters: Writer argues to keep Mr. Monk's legacy alive at gardens
Dear editor, I have been closely following the news of the recent Monk Botanical Gardens name change and feel that I have something important to say to the fine citizens of Wausau and the surrounding areas.  To begin, I would like to share a bit about myself. My family moved to Wausau three years ago. We fell in love with Wausau for many reasons, the friendliness of the people and the strong…

idk if this is a controversial opinion but i think it’s good to do some things for the aesthetic ! yes, i am gonna light a candle, turn on my tiffany lamp, and put on a classical playlist to study. i am going to use my fancy pen to annotate my books in public. i am gonna wear clothes that fit the “academic” stereotype because it’s fun !! if the only thing that makes me want to do schoolwork is to pretend i’m a medieval monk doing logic problems, then i am going to find the PERFECT playlist that fits the vibe ! if doing something silly and fun “for the aesthetic” makes your life more enjoyable, then do it ! make the super specific playlists, dress how you want, drink the tea your favorite characters drink, do a little something just for the aesthetic !!

hi! do you have recs for m/m contemporary romance with lots of good sex, or m/m erotica? thank you! :)
Hi! I do have some recs! I don't read a lot of contemporary m/m (recently went on a Kate Meader hockey player/firefighter binge but none of them really hit for me) but here are some stand-outs:
Saint by Sierra Simone: I'm perpetually reccing this woman's books and for good reason. This one was a lot more slow burn than the first two in the Priest series (equally contemplative though, if not even more) but the pay-off was FANTASTIC. It's all about Aiden, who is now a monk, reconnecting with his now-engaged ex boyfriend Elijah. They go on a road trip to visit monasteries that have breweries I believe. I do need to reread but I distinctly remember vows of silence and chastity (and yes, a chastity cage was used).
The Prince by Tiffany Reisz: I'd strongly recommend reading her Original Sinners series in order (this is the 3rd) but this is the book that delves into the genesis Soren and Kingsley's relationship at their New England Catholic boarding school (!!). Brilliantly written. Younger Soren is a delight and terrifying to read (but Kingsley is.... deeply into that). Please heed the trigger warnings before you read because there is dubcon and mentions of rape/incest.
Wow, I just recced 2 Catholic-centric books. Huh. Well here's a third (more Catholic-adjacent but Soren is a priest so-):
The Return by Tiffany Reisz: Read The Prince, then read The Chateau (if you want; I didn't), then read The Return. Soren and Kingsley are older in this one, their relationship is.... less shaky, I'd say, compared to the present-day scenes in The Prince. Soren and Kingsley in France visiting an old, uh, acquaintance, and you get to see their more mature relationship (Soren's mellowed with age). The classic Tiffany banter is still there, as always, as are the classic Tiffany sex scenes (meaning, mind the TWs).
Mafia Target by Mila Finelli: I read Mafia Mistress my junior year of college and I'd been waiting for Giulio to get a book of his own since then and this was fucking fantastic. Giulio is the son of a mafioso and Alessio is the assassin sent to, well, assassinate him. Can an assassin turn into a simp? The answer is a resounding YES. The sex between these two is excellent (and plentiful since you did ask for "lots of good sex"), and tbh it's just very funny to see these two falling for one another despite all the death threats (on all sides; there's the assassination sitch, there's external mafia shit, daddy does a boyfriend beatdown at some point, etc.).

Harley (Harry) and Tiffany (Tiff): Gaige's mom and dad
Gaige obviously got most of her traits from her dad Harley who is a retired Dahl engineer and somewhat a big kid at heart, corny dad jokes included. Tiffany is a kooky archeologist with a thrill for adventure and while Gaige is closer to her dad, she and her mom have a really good mother-daughter relationship, especially when Gaige asked her about her findings.
(I low-key like to imagine that the mom would sound like Triffany Lottablog from Bugsnax)
Tumblr media
Kohaku (Haku) and Astrid (Ash): Maya's (deceased) mom and dad
Not much is known about the two, other than Ash is a thrill seeking free spirit and Kohaku is soft spoken and well reserved.
The two lived on the outskirts of Athenas, far from any towns nor cities waiting for the birth of their daughter. But when the baby was born a siren, things changed. Both Kohaku and Ash were ecstatic that their daughter is a siren and Ash suggested they move to Pandora after learning about their connections.
Sadly their plans and lives were cut short, as Brother Steven Sophis barged in and demanded they hand over their child.
Along with being the head monk, Sophis is a siren hunter who would stop at nothing to get what he wants, even if it involves killing those who get in the way.
It wasn't until many years later (during bl3) that Maya learned the truth about her parents and when she did.........she shut down.........and now just wants to go home....her real home on Pandora.....
Year after Maya did honor them by naming her second daughter after her mom and her youngest son after her dad.

26 & 36 for the book asks!
26. Favorite novella(s).
I'm a big fan of the LitenVerse series by Nino Cipri, as well as the Monk & Robot series by Becky Chambers, the Wayward Children series by Seanan McGuire, and everybody loves Murderbot by Martha Wells, though I'm fairly certain both of those latter series do have at least one entry too long to be considered a proper novella. I also like The Legend of the Skelton Man by Joseph Bruchac, Ring Shout by P Djélí Clark, Pet by Akwaeke Emezi, and She of the Mountains by Vivek Shraya. I'd say Pet is probably my favorite, I really need to read its prequel.
36. Your absolute most favorite character(s) from any book you've ever read.
I'd say probably Cassandra Cain from a variety of DC comics, but if we're talking just traditionally published books maybe Oli from A Snake Falls to Earth or Tiffany Aching from Discworld
Send me book asks!

Relistening to 'We sell any monk' and the thing about selling from Dublin (makes sense!) to as far away as Italy (also makes sense!) makes me want to have a very silly little medieval AU. They end up in the Emirate of Sicily - as a bunch, though being sold separately and still ending up in the same place may be even better.
Anyways, Michele lives there and meets the unfortunate souls, whose backstory is "Yeah, no, not monks - " "We're the only sons you see -" "And I never was particularly holy or called to Christ anyways, I just lived around a monastery -" "You've seen that fecker, you expect his sister to be pious? No, no nun either." "Anyways. We're from around Dubh Linn and uh. You know. Thought a raid couldn't hurt." "Oh yeah, that were your words, weren't they!"
This goes on for another five minutes. Especially if Michele introduces himself and someone, in true Irish fashion, is like "Oh, I met someone from Byzantium on my way here. Do you know a Tiffany from Ravenna?"

With this Instant Pot Keto Teriyaki Chicken recipe, you can enjoy the tasty flavors of teriyaki chicken without the carbs. This dish is quick and easy, making it perfect for busy weeknights. The Asian flavors and tender chicken thighs make it a great choice.
Ingredients: 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs. 1/2 cup soy sauce or coconut aminos. 1/4 cup water. 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar. 2 tablespoons erythritol or monk fruit sweetener. 1 tablespoon minced garlic. 1 tablespoon minced ginger. 1 teaspoon sesame oil. 1 tablespoon olive oil. 1 tablespoon arrowroot powder or xanthan gum for thickening. Sesame seeds and green onions for garnish optional.
Instructions: To make the teriyaki sauce, put water, apple cider vinegar, soy sauce or coconut aminos, lemon juice, ginger, garlic, and sesame oil in a bowl. Put the Instant Pot in "saut" mode. Cook the chicken thighs on both sides in olive oil. Add the teriyaki sauce and stir to coat the chicken after it has browned. Put the Instant Pot's lid back on and turn it on to Manual/Pressure Cook mode. Leave it to cook for 8 minutes on high pressure. Let the pressure go down naturally for 5 minutes after cooking, then release the rest of the pressure by hand. Take the chicken out of the Instant Pot and set it aside. A tablespoon of water and arrowroot powder or xanthan gum should be mixed together in a small bowl to make a slurry. Put the sauce into the Instant Pot to make it thicker. Put the chicken back in the Instant Pot and stir it around to coat it with the thickened sauce. If you want, you can serve it hot with sesame seeds and green onions on top.

IMDb: Humanitarian and actor Richard Gere was born on August 31, 1949, in Philadelphia, the second of five children of Doris Anna (Tiffany), a homemaker, and Homer George Gere, an insurance salesman, both Mayflower descendants. Richard started early as a musician, playing a number of instruments in high school and writing music for high school productions. He graduated from North Syracuse Central High School in 1967, and won a gymnastics scholarship to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, where he majored in philosophy. He left college after two years to pursue acting, landing a lead role in the London production of the rock musical "Grease" in 1973. The following year he would be in other plays, such as "Taming of the Shrew." Onscreen, he had a few roles, and gained recognition in Looking for Mr. Goodbar (1977). Offscreen, he spent 1978 meeting Tibetans when he traveled to Nepal, where he spoke to many monks and lamas. Returning to the US, on Broadway he portrayed a concentration-camp prisoner in "Bent," for which he received the 1980 Theatre World Award. Back in Hollywood, he played the title role in American Gigolo (1980), establishing himself as a major star; this status was reaffirmed by An Officer and a Gentleman (1982). In the early 1980s, Richard went to Honduras, Nicaragua and El Salvador (amidst ongoing wars and political violence); he traveled with a doctor and visited refugee camps. It is said that Richard was romantically linked with Tuesday Weld, Priscilla Presley, Barbra Streisand and Kim Basinger. In 1990 Richard teamed up with Julia Roberts to star in the blockbuster Pretty Woman (1990); his cool reserve was the perfect complement to Julia's bubbling enthusiasm. The film captured the nation's heart, and won the People's Choice award for Best Movie. Fans clamored for years for a sequel, or at least another pairing of Julia and Richard. They got that with Runaway Bride (1999), which was a runaway success (Richard got $12 million, Julia made $17 million, the box office was $152 million, which shows what happens when you give the public what it wants!). Offscreen, Richard and Cindy Crawford got married December 12, 1991 (they were divorced in 1995). Afterwards, Richard started dating actress Carey Lowell. They had a son, Homer James Jigme Gere, on February 6, 2000. Richard was picked by People magazine as one of the 50 Most Beautiful People in the world in 1991, and as their Sexiest Man Alive in 1999. He is an accomplished pianist and music writer. Above all, Richard is a humanitarian. He's a founding member of "Tibet House," a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Tibetan culture. He has been an active supporter of "Survival International" for several years, a worldwide organization supporting tribal peoples, affirming their right to decide their own future and helping them protect their lives, lands and human rights (these tribes are global, including the natives of the Amazon, the Maasai of East Africa, the Wichi of Argentina, and others). In 1994 Richard went to London to open Harrods' sale, donating his £50,000 appearance fee to Survival. He has been prominent in their charity advertising campaigns.

Our national officials are chosen in order that they may protect the political and economic health of the American people. In a contest such as this there is no place for personal bitterness. A great attribute of our political life has been the spirit of fair play with which our Presidential contests have been waged in former years and the sportsmanlike spirit in which we have accepted the result. We prove ourselves worthy of self-government and worthy of confidence as officials in proportion as we keep these contests free from abuse, free from misrepresentation and free from words and acts which carry regret. Whatever the result, we remain fellow countrymen. -Herbert Hoover

Trump’s poll numbers are up to 51% according to the NY Times. He likes the Times again, go figure!!** COSA (convention of states action) is looking to basically restructure the U.S. Government. ** It’s speculative but some may want to call up Article 5. If 2/3 of the state’s petition congress, it must call a constitutional convention. In this, multiple amendments could be proposed. ** Nobody’s hands are clean. -Barrack Obama** On Veterans Day, I learned from a former President that I was vermin. ** Hitler, Mussolini, he plagiarized those guys. -Stephen Colbert** Word is that some right wingers are using confederate code words in their plans.

Biden turned 81. I do think people should step aside if age hinders them. I’m not sure that applies to Biden. The Stones are heading out on tour and they are about the same age. Who fucking cares? The Grammy noms are here. My faves include The Stones (of course) for ‘Angry’, Rickie Lee Jones for Pieces of treasure in trad pop vocal and I am Everything for Little Richard. Other old timers nominated include Joni Mitchell, Dolly Parton, Meryl Streep, William Shatner and Bruce Springsteen. Rage against the Machine, Michelle Obama and Bernie Sanders were also spotlighted. Fingers crossed for the soundtrack of the Al Yankovik story. The comedy category is always tough, this year with Trevor Noah, Wanda Sykes, Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle and Sarah Silverman.
*****
Sexual assault news: There is a lawsuit against the Lord’s Ranch, its owners and convicted counselor, Ted Suhl. Scary Clown 45 commuted his sentence. The suit alleges that 10-17 year olds were “regularly abused, physically, psychologically and sexually.” The Arkansas facility closed in 2016 .* * Fashion’s Peter Nygard was found guilty of sexual assault in Toronto. ** Sean Combs was accused of rape and sexual abuse. One case was settled but there are more. It has also been said that he blew up a car. ** Axl Rose, Andrew Cuomo and Eric Adams have also been accused. ** Sebastian Chacon has been accused of sexual assault by 3 women. ** Josh Giddey was accused of sex with an underage girl. **Many of these are brought thanks to the Adult Survivors Act.
*****
Republican Senator Markwayne Mullin from Oklahoma challenged teamster Pres Sean O’Brian to a fight at work. Bernie had to shout them down and remind Mullin he is a U.S. Senator. O’Brian has repeatedly posted comments about Mullin being a “moron” and being, “full of shit.”
*****
During the traditional Tuesday morning house meeting, it seems that Kevin McCarthy may have elbowed Tim Burchett in the kidneys. This was witnessed by NPR’s Claudia Grisales. The man was pushed right into her. Adam Kinzinger claims that McCarthy did the same thing to him. ** The ethics report about George Santos came out and it is not good. I’m not sure which is more disturbing, the Republicans defending him or the ones putting him down. To see these Trump zombies putting Santos down when they seem fine with Trump lying is sick. It is also crazy to see some defend him to the end. Yikes!!** America deserves God’s wrath. -Mike Johnson
*****
Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars again in 2024. ** Trump’s lawyers sent Kimmel and ABC news a letter demanding they retract the accusation that he lost $73 mil on his site. Truth Social has lost only about $31.6 mil.

Hitler did a lot of good things. - Donald Trump (according to John Kelly). ** Why does a third or so of this country want to be told what to do by a dictator wanna be??** When the MAGA crowd tells us that they will leave us without a democracy, believe it!
*****
In the Georgia election case, Sydney Powell testified that there was a huge fight in the Trump White House as insiders could not find real evidence about the stolen election and started blaming each other.
*****
Insiders say that the DeSantis camp is fighting amongst itself over why he is failing and which one of them is to blame. He has had a recent up- swing but Nikki Haley is holding strong.

Could a thing like an old -fashioned sounding commercial change the tone of this country?? I hear that Dunkin’, “everybody loves a donut’ jungle and it just seems so simple. Can we agree on donuts??** In another nod to tradition, the Macy’s parade had its biggest ratings ever.
*****
Curb your enthusiasm is headed back for another season.
*****
Daryl Hall has sued and also got a restraining order against John Oates. The court docs were sealed but it seems Oates wants to sell his half. They are the most successful duo in music history.
*****
Open AI has fired their manager and 725 of the 770 employees signed a letter to bring him back. But there have been some complaints about Sam Altman.
*****
There is great buzz about Glen Howerton in Blackberry.
*****
The government will not shut down for now. * * So far, all challenges to use the 14th amendment have went nowhere. The 14th bars from office those who swear an oath to uphold the constitution and then engage in insurrection. Judges have not agreed that this applies to Trump.
*****
Could we see the end of self -check out?? It won’t go away completely but we must keep pushing on that. It has actually been a big flop. Europe is already changing back to more cashiers and it is just beginning in the U.S. Theft has doubled since companies decided to make their customers work AND pay for their items.
*****
Schools are welcoming ‘The after -school Satan club’ in Virginia and Connecticut with more to come. The club views Satan as a “literary figure who represents a metaphorical construct of rejecting tyranny and championing the human mind and spirit.” They encourage kids to think for themselves . Activities include community service, puzzles, games and arts and crafts. The ACLU calls it a win for free speech!!
*****
Argentina has a new President-elect. The people voted in right wing Javier Milei who owns a cloned mastiff named Conan.
*****
The Supreme Court now has an ethics code that is 14 pages long. It is so funny to me that to be President or a part of the highest court in the land, there were no real rules.
*****
Chuck E. Cheese is getting rid of all the robot bands except one.
*****
On the final episode of the Circus, Bannon was interviewed and he absolutely agreed with all the mayhem that Trump asks for. He seems all about retribution. The reporters pulled no punches which caused other reporters to comment that they need to be harder on the crazies. Yea, like 10 years ago would have been nice. It’s pretty well out of control now. A bit late for that.
*****
Have the lawyers looked into Article IV, section 4 of the constitution which states the U.S. shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government?? It seems that Trumps antics would preclude us from having that. Why doesn’t that alone take him off the ballot?
*****
A number of high- end brothels were busted. The biz, based in Northern, Va. Has clients from Boston to D.C. James Lee, Han Lee and Junmyung Lee have been charged with violating federal sex trafficking laws.
