a lot of people, when they start learning how to sew, will see instructions about pressing carefully and staystitching and basting and grainline and machine tension and such, and will go "ehh, I can ignore that and save some time" and then later they'll go "why do my seams look so bad? :(" and. well.. that's why.
#and that was me to some degree for a good long while#mainly with basting. god I hated basting for so so long#but now it's my beloved way to the nicest neatest flat felled seams. basting is good!#I also stubbornly refused to learn to use a thimble until I was forced to for work#and it turns out thimbles are great!#sewing#I never skimped out on ironing at least! you NEED to press your seams dammit!#I also don't usually do staytstitching because it's not necessary on my 18th century tailored & square cut things#but for stuff like rayon summer nightgowns with curved necklines and armholes? IMPERATIVE!

from this concept:
I now have a very cool, very soft, and entirely hand-made 2017 Louie plush !!!!!!
Very silly tail ⬇️
He has a completely functional pull-apart jacket zipper !!!
Also completely functional: the pockets 😼
And here is also a closeup on the little phone
He is made up almost entirely of fleece, all hand-sewn. His shirt and some of his eyes are felt (also the scar on his foot). He's stuffed with polyfill . He's weighed down with lentils 😭 His pattern is made custom by me :) I'm not sure exactly how long he took, but I'd guess some amount of months. Maybe 2, but maybe only a few weeks of collective actual work days
He does also have a dog toy type squeaker in him
#DuckTales#DuckTales 2017#Dt17#Does this count as fanart#DuckTales fanart#Dt17 fanart#Louie duck#Dt17 Louie#Errrrrmmm#Sewing#Hand sewing#Plushies#Guys idk how to tag sewing projects#His beak was genuinely a NIGHTMARE to pattern. It took like 4 collective days of trying#It is also sewn on like. Crooked. So so sorry#Scar on his foot (as mentioned in the concept) is a reference to glomtales#Specifically the scene where he's trying to climb out of the window and dt87 bot shoots him w a laser#Absurd decision. Anyway I just think it's sort of fun to include things like that#I would've given him little freckles but I don't have a thread that'd make them subtle enough and I hate drawing details on#Btw I originally had a cute golden zipper w green fabric around it. It was closed-bottomed but I still wanted to use it bc it was all I had#Then I sewed it on and cut it too short. Had to make a surprise trip to joann's to get a new one#I love fabric stores they're so interesting 2 me#He's like 10 inches tall btw. Give or take a little#I DO PLAN TO MAKE DEWEY AND HUEY probably soon if I don't have any more fun projects to get to

Every time Ao3 goes down I wish that I had an Ao3 teddy bear that to hold in these dark times.
And then I remember that I can sew and have made bears before.
#ao3#ao3 is down#hand sewing#plushy making#honestly the only thing stopping me is that I hate the idea of embroidering the logo#and I have enough plushies already but that’s besides the point

This is for anyone and everyone who sews, but most especially quilters.
PLEASE REBLOG!!!
#quiltblr#sewblr#textile art#fiber art#my answer is yes and the print is USA patriotic prints. They trigger anxiety that borders on panic. making anything with those prints#makes sewing difficult. What about them triggers anxiety? Look at who typically wears that kind of print/pattern. They're MAGAts/#conservatives/hate groups. It used to mean something positive but now when I see these prints I want to run far away.#it's hard enough using red/white/blue color combination because of the association. I made placemats for my parents using those#prints because my mom sent them to me. All US flags and bald eagles. She called me when they arrived with all the scraps.#asked me why I didn't want to keep the scraps. When I told her simply hate looking at those prints she was baffled. I grew up in the#military and apparently should be comforted by the prints. NOPE!#the last time someone tried commissioning me for a quilt using those kinds of prints I offered them a refund because I straight up#will not do it. they were perfectly happy with the color combination instead after I explained why. I used floral and water prints#which made it less difficult but I had to constantly remind myself it's all pretty things.

When I contemplate the physical spaces that articulate the letters 'I love you' in a written text, I may be led to think about other spaces, for example the space that lies between 'you' in the text and you in my life.

A little mend here that I was pleasantly surprised worked, I fixed the fraying bits on my book-shaped wallet! Figured that red thread works quite well with the themes of War of the Worlds.
First up, we've got some simple stitches perpendicular to the edge of the wallet, think a blanket stitch but the thread doesn't run through the loop created. Honestly, there are probably more complex ways I could have stitched that vinyl "leather" back onto the fabric and cardboard of the book structure, but I figured these simple stitches would be faster, and work just fine.
Second, on a slightly larger tear on the "spine" corner, I did some randa stitching! This actually draws from a style of embroidery I'm almost completely unfamiliar with, most popular in Brazil, so I may be labeling it wrong. If you know better, let me know! It's a sort of baseball-stitching like process, I was roughly following this video as a tutorial: https://vm.vxtiktok.com/t/ZT8TNMKw9/
and also this one to understand how to get started: https://vm.vxtiktok.com/t/ZT8TNrMML/ (Excuse the tiktok links, but I am not immune to the allure of short video on occasion! I even have posts of my own, every now and again)
I actually need to do similar rim-lining on the other three corners, as the adhesive is starting to come off, and that'll hold it still enough to solve the problem.
Also, some miscellaneous adventures in hemming patches properly! A process that proved MUCH simpler once I found my rolled hem foot. These two patches came out quite good, actually! straight stitching, for the most part, and relatively even folds.
It was much simpler to get the hems just so on a larger patch like this one, thankfully! I'm actually really pleased with the way this one in particular came out, and hopefully, I can make something pretty with it on the thigh of the jeans it goes with. (yes, that's why the patches are numbered, so I can keep track of where they go in the stack!)
Even despite how well things went overall with the patches, I still fumbled, got a bit hasty in trying to get the corner of one of the later patches through the machine. Said haste had me trying to shove shove, cram cram the fabric through the foot to get it hemmed, turns out, don't do that! Results in bending the needle on my machine! Oof!
Luckily, the machine came with some spare needles, so it only slowed me down a little bit!
#fabric arts#sewing#making#mending#visible mending#solarpunk#denim#novel bookwallet#book wallet#queue.queue#a thousand words#sproutleboople#nesterian lifestylings#I have such a love hate relationship with this wallet tbh#It's such a delightful design!#little book! and it comes in so many different fun public domain covers!#but also it uses vinyl “leather” which I've consistently had a major beef with#honestly before I decided to kinda just go for it with the embroidery thread I actually considered throwing this out since it was busted#but then I realized 'hey wait a minute: they use thread to bind books'#so I figured it was worth a shot! plus if it worked I'd keep that much more plastic outta the landfill#that said if the next set of stitches don't stop the continued delamination of the adhesive I'll still consider getting another#because they debuted the phantom of the opera design after the kickstarter happened and that's how I wound up buying mine initially#they even do a version that holds a tiny journal alongside your wallet things which is Tempting Major#honestly if they had gone with actual leather over plastic I would have no hesitation about recommending them!#tee bee aech if you don't mind the plastic flaking eventually they're actually fantastic#it's just when I buy a wallet I want to not buy another for as long as is feasible y'feel?

Tried to be a good sewist and change my sewing machine needle so I'd have a nice fresh one to work on this finicky fabric but now my machine is throwing a fit and sewing much worse than she did with the dull needle :( This is not encouraging me to develop good habits.
#hate when you try to do the recommended thing and it doesn't even work. dreadful.#this is why i'm swinging harder and harder towards hand sewing#at least when my fingers betray me i understand why

Buying Cotton Sateen For My First Homemade Corset
practicality is saying white
my soul is saying peacock blue (Blorbo deleted scene twinning? maaaaaybe) or sage green. with black, white, gold, or gray flossing
#sewing#corsets#got a custom Clockwork Faerie Co pretty housemaid pattern let's GOOOOO#the thing about Blorbo twinning for me though is. we have the same coloring. ergo we look good in the same shades#(this is the only reason I've cosplayed her; I hate fussing with wigs)#so there's bound to be some overlap

#aka looking at embroidered waistcoats and other lovely things on pinterest#i hate how pinterest has made it impossible to find the proper source for anything but i do love going on pinterest#it's alone time in a way strangely similar to being on a train#plus all i ever do there is save style and sewing inspiration and what they serve me reflects that#applied faunology
