One thing that I find really interesting besides Homura and Madoka's relationship, it's how Homura and Sayaka behaves with each other. You see in the timelines how Sayaka is heavily distrusting of Homura. I mean, I understand the girl, it really doesn't help how Homura just shows herself in such a cold and ambiguous light that just creates a sense of hostility within her. But this, before Homura grasps herself with her cold, uncaring facade, Sayaka was already suspicious of her. I don't remember which timeline this is but in this one, Sayaka exclaims how annoying is to fight along Homura because of how she uses bombs and since Sayaka is a close combat fighter, this doesn't work well; she even says that "she doesn't want a bomb to explode right in her face". Because of that, Homura starts to steal guns from the Yakuza.
Along with Sayaka's hard attitude, there's also the fact that Sayaka, in every single timeline, or either she dies as a Magical Girl or turns into a Witch.
This eventually becomes one of the possible triggers to Madoka make a contract with Kyubey. Homura highlights this when she says to Sayaka that she doesn't care about her well being or anything, she just wants to keep her alive because if something happens to her, it will hurt Madoka and probably will make her do her wish.
All this distrust and hostility between them slowly dissolves on Sayaka's side in Rebellion. After she rescues Homura from the fight with Mami, you can see how truly sympathetic Sayaka is being. She understands the pain of being a witch and tries to console Homura on that. I already made another post on this matter, but the things she talks when the Holy "Quartet" is coming in clutch to help Homura is just so.... Different of what the anime version of her would say.
But right in the moment when she finally begins to trust Homura, she is back stabbed, betrayed even. She is stripped from her holy position, as a Angel to Madoka's God. Her hostility towards Homura is back, even stronger than it used to be. Sure, she forgot everything right at the end as she is seen smiling happily along with Kyoko's company. But let's not forget the last thing she told Homura.
"Even if I do, there's one thing I won't forget. You, Homura Akemi, are a demon!"
Because of the ambiguity of Rebellion's ending, we really don't know what will happen. What will happen when Sayaka gets her memories back? Will she be extremely angry with Homura? Will she side with Madoka? Will she try to bring some light into Homura's actions? We don't know.

I want to emphasize something about the dungeon meshi ages.
Tumblr media
So Senshi is 35-36 here, yeah? The dwarven age of maturity is 40, and he’s just shy of it.
When Chilchuck was just shy of his race’s age of maturity, he had a kid and got married. He was 13, and the half-foot age of maturity is 14.
So, developmentally-wise, THIS is how old Chilchuck was when he became a father:
Tumblr media
This is even further emphasized with Izutsumi. She’s 17 (and actually turns 18 during the faligon feast), older than the tallman age of maturity, and still reads VERY immature to the audience. By the time Chilchuck was Izutsumi’s relative age, he was already on his third kid and had moved away from home to the city.
Imagine Izutsumi being a parent of three. Imagine Senshi having a child of his own when he was with the miners.
Like. Chilchuck was young young.

Congratulations My Hero Academia for providing, possibly, the biggest and longest legit straightbaiting yet in shonen history.
Bonus points that their final chapter was released on yaoi day.

hopeless time loop. the way out isn’t to save everyone. the way out isn’t to save even one person. the way out isn’t to change anything. the way out is accepting how it happened the first time is how it always will be. that’s how you acted, that’s how they acted, that’s how you would have acted every time if you weren’t given the curse of hindsight. the way out is accepting you can’t fix the past; you can only forgive yourself for it.

really i think one of my favorite character dynamics is “i don’t actually like you but we’ve been through so much together that i’d trust you with my life and know that we will always back each others calls. but i still wouldn’t trust you with my car keys.” like “we aren’t really friends but we’ve been thrust into an intense situation where you are the only other person i know so now we’re besties.” and “if it weren’t for our years of history i would have literally nothing to talk to you about at this work dinner.” Enemies to lovers has NOTHING on general disinterest to begrudging acknowledgment to discovering that this person is now an inextricable part of your life

Sae Niijima is such a good character it drives me insane a little. She's not a mother nor a maternal or doting older sister but instead a twenty four year old who was thrown into a position of responsibility that she never asked for. She loves Makoto just as much as she resents her and its so apparent every time they talk up until November. "Are you studying?" (I want you to do well) (I need you to get a job and stop making my life harder) "I'll use any method necessary to get this promotion" (Life will be easier for us) (So stop distracting me with your problems) "Focus on your future" (I know that you're capable) (I can't afford to waste my time on you, so stop wasting time on others)
Makoto is not only the sole reason she pushes as hard as she does for a promotion, for success, and the reason that she loses herself in her animosity over her fathers death, but also someone she can't stand for so long. Makoto was 14-15 when their father died. Sae was 21. As soon as she got the career she wanted and things started to look up, her stability was robbed from her and she was disillusioned with the system that her father had taught her to rely on and completely adhere to. How do you manage, the daughter of a cop, following his footsteps towards law enforcement, when you're suddenly reminded of how unfair it is? You can't quit, your little sister relies on you and she's so young and struggling just as badly with this grief. So you pick yourself up and you get moving again. You push harder, press further. You abandon your morals and your ethics because punishing criminals (guilty or not) is almost like punishing the man who killed your father.
And the whole time she's fighting for promotions, going for drinks with the SIU Director to make herself more favourable for promotions, trying to navigate being a woman in a competitive, suffocating, male-dominated field, falling behind despite doing so much where others are promoted for doing so little - all the while your little sister comes back from school and her biggest issues are so small compared to yours.
Persona 5 revolves so heavily around grief and loss and change and Sae embodies all of that so well, all of the sharp and unpleasant and jagged parts of grief.

Still thinking about Galidraan, about the Legends vs Canon treatment of Dooku’s character, namely his exit from the Jedi.
It’s funny how much it matters to me and improves Dooku’s story that he didn’t leave the Jedi out of growing disillusionment with the Order itself. In the current canon, it’s all framed around a very Padme-esque disenchantment with current political makeup of the Republic, the Jedi being used by the Senate and political machines inappropriately, and how planets with little wealth or influence are left out. In the penultimate moment of crisis, he leaves for Serenno, not because he can’t be a Jedi any longer. Because of a conviction that he could truly make something better.
And I don’t mean to suggest that he never expresses any criticism of the Jedi or particularly, the Council. He seems to have founded that characteristic trait within the Disaster Lineage. (Ironically, the person in Dooku’s story who should have the most legitimate reason to have a personal problem with the Jedi Order is fucking Sifo-Dyas, who never seems to have considered leaving and literally dies telling the camera he did it all to save the Jedi, but that’s a different post.) But that isn't what compels Dooku to leave. In fact, he remains close with the Order for years afterward.
Why it matters to me is because that detail makes Dooku ultimately betraying the Order SO MUCH MORE FUCKED.
Because they weren’t an old score he was settling. It wasn't seething resentment that boiled out into revenge years later. They were innocent collateral damage of his decisions. His family. His lineage. His legacy. It makes his treachery so much more personal. He had a wager, power for a horrible cost, and he took the power and paid the horrible cost. Sidious really gets him with:
Tumblr media
If Dooku hated them and had always thought they deserved to be destroyed, it wouldn’t have been a true Sith bargain, the trade off wouldn’t have tallied. In the same way that Vader could not have existed if Anakin hadn’t loved Padme and yet still killed her.
If Dooku was just a horrible, conceited, power-hungry ass who expectedly traded the kinda shitty people in his life for a shot at more power, it wouldn’t be a very good story. If he really didn’t give a shit, why would Sidious make that his initiation? But if he does - does care deeply about Sifo-Dyas, does love Qui-Gon like a son, is touched by Yaddle’s kindness and sympathy, begins to see Asajj as a true apprentice, consistently tries to save Obi-Wan out of affection, still considers the Jedi his true family - and yet still dooms them all, how much more tragic and horrible and sickening and real and interesting is his story?
