So my major issue with act 3 was that it sidelined Vi and Jinx’s story for the stories of side characters, with the central conflict barely even involving them. And here’s how I would fix that, while still keeping the time limit and plotlines.

Keep episode 7 mostly the same, a break from the formula, but make Mel get sucked into the hex core like Jayce, Ekko, and Heimmerdinger. She gets an alternate reality too, one where her brother is actually still alive. Alternate Ambessa spills the beans about Mel being a mage (idk why, this is broadstrokes). Mel gets transported back. We the viewers can tell she’s still grappling with all this in her actions up until the finale

Resolve the Jayce/Viktor/Hexcore plot in episode 6. Jayce fails to kill Viktor, but realizes that if he does, everyone Viktor helped will die too. Jayce still gets his speech, still convinces Viktor to release his hold. They decide to find and destroy all Hextech. What he doesn’t realize is that Viktor didn’t quite take it all to heart. Viktor lives, but begins plans for the Machine Herald.

Caitlyn/Ambessa don’t storm in episode 6. Instead we see them planning a small scale invasion of zaun to capture Vander, then a large scale invasion to fully quash any resistance for the foreseeable future. They openly discuss obvious war crimes, this is where we see Caitlyn grow increasingly uncomfortable. Maybe an insistence that she was wrong for using the Grey earlier. But Ambessa successfully manipulates her.

Episode 8 the invasion happens. Zaun loses, Vi and Jinx lose Vander again. They, especially with Isha’s insistence, finally truly become revolutionaries. They are going to be the generation that creates Zaun. Sevika and Ekko are the brains, but Jinx is the figurehead. Caitlyn learns that Vander is lucid, that he’s Vi’s (and Powder/Jinx’s) father that he won’t fight for Piltover. Her resolve finally breaks. She realizes she was wrong. She makes the mistake of telling Maddie.

Episode 9, Zaun finally fights Piltover. Sevika leads. Mel and Cait both turn traitor, and Ambessa still has Maddie attempt to execute Cait, Mel still parries it.

Viktor and Jayce use the commotion to destroy the hexgates, and their designs for anything that relied on Hextech. Jayce does not notice Viktor stashing some crystals away. This sets up a Jayce/Viktor spin off.

Jinx, Vi, and Isha make it to Vander. They save him, but they save Singe too. The healed blood turns out to be the secret ingredient instead. This sets up the Orriana plot.

They rejoin the fight. Vi tries to fight Cait until she realizes she’s on her side. Things won’t ever be the same, but they can still reconcile some day. During the fight, they try to get Isha out, but fail. She dies.

Mel defeats Ambessa, gets Ambessa’s dying speech. This is the end of set up for her arc in the next show. It also causes Piltover to surrender.

Jinx has her whole deciding to die thing. She leaves, literally walking away somewhere calm and private. Ekko still talks her down. Jinx and Vi are finally, finally okay. So much still hurts, so much is still to be resolved, but for now, they are okay.

Zaun gets a semi-independent status. Sevika sits on the council, as does Ekko. It’s going to be a long and hard road, but they are going to build a better world.

Why do fandoms ship SasuNaru?

SHORT ANSWER: because Naruto and Sasuke's relationship is the most developed of the entire manga and because Kishimoto doesn't know how to write good female characters.

A LONGER ANSWER NEEDS TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT MORE DETAILS.

The two presumed love interests of the show, Hinata and Sakura, are more often than not, shallow lovesick girls who didn't do anything to really build up their relationship with Naruto and Sasuke. Hinata was always hidden behind a tree stalking him, keeping the distances, even when Naruto needed a friend more than anything else. She was “shy", ok, I get it, but her attitude is incredibly annoying, especially since she had such a good introduction. She could've been so much more than a cute girl serving as human shield when the narrative needed her to.

Sakura chased after Sasuke all the time, confessing her love left and right, but she never really took into account the guy's feelings towards her. When she was little, she even asked Sasuke to bring her with him to carry out his revenge plans. Naruto, even as a young boy, never contemplated such a choice, because he wanted Sasuke to be happy and healthy and he knew that, by severing all his bonds, Sasuke would've fallen into darkness and despair even further. That's the difference between the obsessive kind of love showed by Sakura and the completely selfless kind of love showed by Naruto. Even to this day, Sakura is merely chasing after her adolescent crush. She didn't even have the time to actually get to know Sasuke since, after the war, the guy was away from the village for 2 years, then when they reconnected he almost immediately impregnated her and after 1–2 yrs at best, he went MIA again, on a super secret mission that prevented him to return home even once in 9 yrs… He couldn't write trivial letters to his family, but was in contact with Naruto all the time, communicating crucial Intel for the village (sharing classified info isn't supposed to be more difficult than writing personal stuff to a wife?). Sasuke didn't even recognize his daughter's face when he saw her... So much for a beautiful love story! At least, Naruto and Hinata actually spent time together, before becoming husband and wife and after, as a family with two beloved children.

The point is: had kishimoto written his female leads a little bit better, their role as realistic love interests would've been more widely accepted and even welcomed. There's no particolar need to “ship” two male characters together, so if many people do it with this particular “couple”, is because Naruto and Sasuke's relationship is far from being the mere byproduct of trivial fetishization.

Now, clearly shonen manga aren't, usually, concerned with pairings and relationships; nobody really wanted or expected romance to be the main focus of the story, but kishimoto spent a hell of a lot of time describing in fine details the love between Naruto and Sasuke, filling the narrative surrounding them with symbolism and tropes usually found in romantic literature. Just to mention some:

Spiderman horizontal “kiss" (after Sasuke collapsed at the end of the first VOTE fight);

thinking about the other in bed, or under the starry night sky with a hand on the chest, wishing to be reunited soon;

declaring the intention of dying together;

Noticing the compatibility of fire and wind as elements that always amplify and compliment each other;

Begging on the knees, in front of the Raikage, to avoid the other’s execution;

having a full blown panic attack at the thought of the other being executed;

Never giving up on saving the other even when everybody else already did;

I could go on, but the point is:

Why did Kishimoto portray this relationship in a purposefully ambiguous fashion?

There isn't a clear cut answer even after years. It's possible that the author liked to '’troll” the audience by leaving some suggestive images here and there… Heck, he even drew a wholeass front-page with Naruto and Sasuke wearing necklaces with each other's face on them! But simple fan service doesn't cut it for me. I don't think it was just that.

Kishimoto decided to write a love story from the beginning to the end, however it was a platonic love between two people of the same sex.

It was platonic because Kishimoto never stated anything different: his original idea of making Naruto and Sasuke a couple is just fake news spread by a Spanish forum that became viral for obvious reasons.

It wasn't even a brotherly love, however, since Naruto himself said that, despite the whole reincarnations thing, he is not Ashura and Sasuke is not Indra. Their relationship is unique, infact, it didn't end in tragedy like the other ones. They didn't grew up as brothers from the start, they learned to love and understand eachother through years of suffering and pushing-pulling.

Naruto is Sasuke's most important person, his one and only… while Sasuke is for Naruto the ideal he always attempted to reach. Their relationship is perfectly balanced, because they push each other to be better, neither is the doormat of the other, while their marriages are very unbalanced, with passive and submissive wives who see them as Gods.

So in the end, this love story between two men is something bound to create confusion among the fans. Kishimoto didn't avoid to make things complicated and allusive since the very beginning of the manga (two rivals kissing is obviously just for comedic purposes, but it definitely set the tune for other events. Sasuke even remembered this kiss when he was convinced Haku had killed him, almost as it was an episode he actually gave some thought to). It's all a matter of interpretation: fans can see more than just a friendship or something different than brotherly affection because the author purposefully drew/wrote questionable situations/dialogues. However, it was never Kishimoto's intentions to make SasuNaru a canon couple. Especially since the next gen needed to be created and two gay men can't have biological children togheter anyway.

Sasuke and Naruto are soulmates and they don't need to share a carnal relationship to be the best love story of the manga.

At the end of the day, I think this was Kishimoto's plan all along (or at least since Sasuke's introduction): writing about the most powerful kind of love one can think of, capable of surviving everything, even unrelenting hatred.

People can easily see this concept as something else and I myself would've loved a NaruSasu ending, to be quite honest, but what we need to refer to, while discussing this kind of topics, is always canon material. Canonically, Naruto and Sasuke are two heterosexual males, married with children.

I don't know if you've looked over the new UA, or if you're planning to, but i've always loved your commentary on the strengths of the warlock and the pitfalls of the sorcerer (and also debunking of a lot of the whining about pre-tasha's sorcerer subclasses), so if you do end up looking over it, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the mechanical changes to the classes!

I haven't been keeping up for a while but I have returned for the most recent list so here's a very cursory list of thoughts. Sorcerer and warlock stuff in depth is bolded for your ease of finding.

buying a drink for whoever came up with the "if you fucked up which spells you prepared as a wizard? BURN A SLOT BABEY". this person gets it.

I don't love eldritch blast only scaling by warlock level but making it free does help; there's also no way to really like, reward people for playing warlock/paladin and point and laugh at them for playing warlock/sorcerer and shrug at them for playing warlock/bard so like, I get it I guess.

sorcery incarnate is great at making sorcerers suck less because it really is like. once you're out of sorcery points? you are just a wizard who is less smart, with worse spells.

Barbarian rage updates seem very good - the taking damage thing has always irritated me, and I agree, it should be what you do, not what happens to you. Also a fan of the Primal Knowledge.

NGL I'm obviously a huge caster main and I have to look up how you calculate your weapon damage every time so I will return to weapon mastery on the weekend when I am well-rested, theoretically.

Sorcerer: wow this class doesn't suck here! Increasing the number of spells is really the biggest thing, but moving metamagic to level 2 makes muticlassing into sorcerer an actually feasible option, and making it something you can change on a long rest is HUGE, particularly because metamagic is very much a case of "if you have the exact correct metamagic option it will save your ass but if you picked wrong at level 3 you are dead." Sorcerous vitality is good and in general I think sorcerers should gain abilities that make them more self-sufficient [insert Critical Role Campaign 3 joke here]. In general the always prepped sorcerer spells are good. Arcane Apotheosis is unhinged but in the right and proper way of high level characters so that's fine.

Warlock: I'm sorry but warlock should not be permitted to be wisdom based. If you were wise you'd make better choices. Int is fine though obviously since wizard stupid/hubris is frequently true of other mages. Anyway. Moving the spell slot progression to half-caster systems is probably wise given that once a warlock hit level 9 it became Time To Exploit Things but I do have a soft spot for pact magic; mechanically this is good, emotionally this is eh. Medium armor by default is good because warlocks are frequently in situations. Moving Mystic Arcanum softens the blow a bit, and moving the pact boon to level 1 along with the patron will hopefully help people understand the warlock narratively better (iykyk). Contact Patron, and getting Hex at will at L18 are both great. My only argument is that pact weapon should, like the others, last until dismissed or until you die; like, realistically, what is going to happen is the player is going to say "just assume I fucking cast it each morning and also each night to ensure I have weapons at the ready if we're attacked in the middle of the night" so may as well cut out the middleman. The invocation changes seem fine; Hexer is hilarious and perfect.

Wizard stuff is great, big fan of the Academic feature.

hmmm, i feel like he does, it's just a bit skewed? bcuz he understands right and wrong and when things are Bad to do, but he's very good at making excuses for when he or the people he loves do bad things

see above but yes, he would feel bad (like in s3 he is really nasty towards edgar and he Knows hes in the wrong) but hes sooo good at making excuses and finding out reasons Why his behavior is okay (in the edgar situation its bcuz he tells himself that edgar is having an emotional affair with rafe and hurting jj so his behavior is justified which is NOT the situation at all)

yes and no! no to him bcuz he sees himself as aware of his beliefs and ideals and doesn't think he can be influenced (hes Wrong) yes, bcuz he needs people with like minds to pull him back to reality

no, despite his whole morality situation, he views everyone as equal, himself included

okay regarding all the theories and stuff. there were some i liked on the beginning, like something about the timeline perhaps being messed with because of inconsistencies in major background details, but its gotten so unrealistic and out of hand. they believe these theories to be true rather than theories, and at this point i hate to say it but we dont have time for this! from a narrative/writing standpoint the duffers are NOT going to have the time to incorporate all of this in the final 8-9 episodes of the series. to put it bluntly, we have more important things to focus on. and, if im being honest, i thought the earlier theories were cool but i never considered them realistic because i sincerely do not think the duffers are capable of being that smart lmao

yeah there were some that i liked too - i just think that the problem is people believe they have to be right in their theories so they take it very seriously. it’s sooo much fun to have theories that are just crack and you don’t believe them but you think would make a cool plotline. the problem is when the joke goes too far and you start to take crack theories seriously to the degreee where if something didn’t happen in canon that said person created then well they’re going to take it very hard. but yeah it’s gotten so out of hand and this could be why but also idk. this is just my assumption/theory and i’m not gonna analyze it anymore lol. i also loved the timeline stuff but then people started to create a whole ass identity for henry that was never even brought up in canon and the only evidence is that it was in a newspaper article in the show that in the show was already sketchy in the first place. the newspaper was a very unreliable source in canon so idk why people look at the newspaper and take everything as facts. anyway lol sorry i needed to get that rant out

anyway you’re sooo right like we don’t have time for this and these theories because there are more important things in canon to worry about at this point. yeah same i don’t believe the duffers would write that and even are that smart because like they just wouldn’t come up with that. while yes writing goes on foreshadowing and stuff but the duffers writing is very cut clear about what they want in their story. yes there is a mystery but on screen the complications/complex things end up being shown on screen a lot in a very cut clear way - i don’t think that the duffers would get caught up in all of this. especially considering they have been cut clear to the audience as a whole - while yes there are some things that they keep under wraps but they don’t shy away from telling the audience what to except and even the medias that have inspired them and that they hope captures the vibe in st

wee rant about art and shit under the cut

So I’ve been thinking about why I don’t like my art until it’s as close to realism as possible and don’t really try to develop an individual artstyle other than just trying to do realism and not really enjoy it or being good at it

I think it’s mainly cause of my dad, like when I showed him my art when I was younger he never just said oh that’s nice he always criticised it and told me ways he thought it could be better and when I showed him characters I made he would say stuff like why don’t you ever do drawings of real people

Even now the rare times I show him my stuff he does it, and I can do shit really fucking realistic like 100% in art on a exam where we had to do realism, like pencil studies

When I was like 10-13 he was especially like this cause I showed everyone all my shit, cause I was proud of them and wanted people to trll me they were good for external validation and cause my dad never gave me that and just criticised me for my stuff even though that man can’t draw for shit I still constantly need validation that my art isn’t shit and I never believe people when they say it’s good, which then probably comes off as attention seeking cause I’m like “my art so bad I hate this”in school and all the other people at my table are like “what are you crazy that’s so fucking good” and I feel like when that happens as often as it does that’s what it comes across as

I think art in school also played a part in this cause like we only did well in junior high when stuff looked somewhat realistic and the teachers always pushed for realism even when people were doing art based on like expressionist artists

Sorry for the like the vent I just needed to scream into the void for a bit, it’s like he didn’t even care/remember that the shit he said to me when I was younger would stay in my mind, like I remember a lot of the conversations I’ve had in my life, never the important ones or the ones I want to but like the a lot of the ones that will definitely ruin my mental health if I keep thinking about them, I can remember my dad telling me that my drawing sucked when I was 9 and an embarrassing thing I said in 2013 but not my closest friends birthdays or that I was asked to do the dishwasher

Now I’m gonna go back to being sad that I can’t draw my silly little guys as sillier littler guys potentially in dresses cause of a wip I’m doing (let’s just say it involves a musical I used to LOVE) but can’t cause I HATE MY FUCKING ARTSTYLE CAUSE IT SUCKS

- We have another phenomenon then it's these idiots are getting more and more rude and confident as their higher ups leave or die and we think they're very stupid and we know they are and we will depower them now and we insist on it stupid or not we're gonna take their power away as we know what their plan is.

- We have several other things to address one of them is our son's well-being he is wearing clothing that is not that great he's not eating too good it's OK and it's better than most. He doesn't have money for incidentals. Mentioned evacuating and things like that. We need to get going on it. He's saying the 15th and we'll see how it goes that'll be the sign whether we're going to have a fat a fight or a war. And for our people too. Very good idea. A lot of us had it

- There are other things of major concern. Other pattern is terrible causing rain everywhere in flooding it's terrible it's a threat and we need them to cut it down and they don't seem to think it's something to have to do we have to start working on it now. Other items of concern

- We have leaders who are coming in and they are pseudo empire and they are unfit for duty. It's his fault he's leading a rebellion and they're not really empire and we're gonna cut them loose and anybody with this **** **** attitude has to go and John Remallard needs out so we don't set the example.

- We have a few other things it's a monstrous pile of stuff to announce but there are about 50 people who are constantly trying to molest our son and their females and for his jeans. It's kind of a weak number and they're stupid. And other women are messing with them big time to prevent them from doing anything and these women are too stupid to know that it's extremely valuable and if they did they'd probably be a lot worse. We need to come here and start getting rid of them.

- Other things of concern camilla and Biden are on the warpath and don't care who gets in the way the same today they said it today and they just do not understand what they're doing we don't like them at all and they keep screwing everything up down here that have some tries to do and they're useless. And Mac is telling them to knock it off and they won't I gotta tell you he's not really having them do this stuff they're a bunch of jerks. For example the guy is gonna go for the design of the Cena car the original it's more realistic from will and Bill scanning and he wants it because the name of the car is cruise and some other ridiculous crap now for his programming he wants to make the car and he has no ability to manufacture it. We find one is doing to be ridiculous is demanding it i'll tell you what he's out and his fried and it's terrible again there's way too many of these people that are fried and they won't join up with people and the empires below altogether and it's horrible we have a crisis and I'm going to declare right now.

Summer 2023 Anime Wrap-up

So honestly, this wasn't an especially good season. I'm not watching most of the popular things that got sequels, so all I had as an anchor was Mushoku Tensei. Thankfully the trio of Undead Girl Murder Farce, My Blissful Marriage, and Zom 100 were able to carry the season through to something resembling a soft landing.

New Stuff:

Higeki no Genkyou to Naru Saikyou Gedou Last Boss Joou wa Tami no Tame ni Tsukushimasu. (The Most Heretical Last Boss Queen: From Villainess to Savior) - The main character getting everyone to swear to kill her if she turns evil would be a lot more understandable if it seemed like she was actually in any danger of turning evil. Overall a pretty straightforward implementation of the Villainess setup, mostly interesting for not really being a romance at all. 6/10

Level 1 dakedo Unique Skill de Saikyou desu (My Unique Skill Makes Me OP Even at Level 1) - By any standard, this is Baby's First Isekai. I mean that nearly literally, it even has a "this time on" each episode. The setting makes no sense until you think about it, at which point it makes even less sense. Somehow it found a way to be another Isekai With Guns and made all the problems worse. Still, I finished it I guess. 6/10

Liar Liar - This was a Making Bullshit Rules Up As We Go Along show, but it had a fun tsundere and a nice aesthetic. The story and production values didn't back this up enough to make it good, as such, but sometimes you just want some delicious garbage, and this had me covered. 6/10

Seija Musou: Salaryman, Isekai de Ikinokoru Tame ni Ayumu Michi (The Great Cleric) - This season's budget isekai: I died working my ass off at an abusive company, so when I reincarnated I decided to... keep working my ass off! Featuring: OK but fuck privatized healthcare though. Not good in absolute terms, but I had a good time anyway. 7/10.

Undead Girl Murder Farce - This was fun! It could have gone several different ways based on the first episode. It turned out to be a crossover fanfic where I Can't Believe It's Not Oshino Meme, a saucy deadpan maid, and a head in a box fight with and/or against the headliner mystery- and supernatural-adjacent popular characters from the Victorian era, plus some mythology of its own. 8/10

Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon (My Blissful Marriage) - This was a pleasant surprise. At first it seemed like it would be a vapid Cinderella-alike, but it turns out our shoujo love interest has a day job as Roy Mustang. Give it a shot if you don't mind a bit of a slow start. 8/10

Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha (The Dreaming Boy is a Realist) - This got a whole post. Basically a problematic anime with a genuine heart. 6/10 and 9/10 at the same time - call it 7/10.

Sequels:

Mushoku Tensei II: Isekai Ittara Honki Dasu (Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2) - We're back baby! I appreciated the time skip letting them update Rudeus's character design. I'm really pleased with how this is progressing, and fully understand why it was the progenitor of the modern isekai boom. 9/10

Tonikaku Kawaii: Joshikou-hen (TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You - High School Days) - Oddly seems like it just stopped in the middle? Maybe they were getting ahead of an arc that's getting a proper cour later. 7/10

Horimiya: Piece - Watching this right after the main Horimiya anime, I enjoyed getting the side stories but also understand why they got cut in the original adaptation. 8/10

Carryovers:

Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e Kayou II (The Misfit of Demon King Academy Ⅱ) - This made a lot more sense the second time around. It's weirdly fast and suffers from too many characters syndrome, but it's still good fun. 7/10, though barely.

Continuing:

Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan (2023) - It's Rurouni Kenshin again. Ongoing.

Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto (Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead) - Finally, someone making a zombie show got access to colors other than grey, brown, and red. The bright aesthetic and energy reminiscent of No More Heroes made this the best new show of the season. If you have ever had such a terrible job that you wished the world would end instead instead of you having to go to work the next day, this is for you. It's been pushed into the next season for scheduling reasons, but unless it faceplants somehow it's 9/10.

Dropped:

Synduality: Noir - Alas, this lived up (down) to my expectation of being not very good. There's just kinda... not much going on. The action isn't good enough to support the poorly conveyed plot. Dropped at episode 4. 5/10

JItsu wa Ore, Saikyou deshita? (Am I Actually the Strongest?) - It kept almost showing promise but ultimately fizzled out. Not even enough anime tiddy to justify itself. Dropped at episode 7. 5/10

Shiro Seijo to Kuro Bokushi (Saint Cecilia and Pastor Lawrence) - While this was cute and comfy it ended up just being boring. Dropped at episode 8. 6/10

AI no Idenshi (The Gene of AI) - I thought I was going to watch this after the first episode and then I just... didn't. Dropped at episode 1, no rating.

Helck - The would-be shonen of the season turned out to be a big meh. I was struggling to keep engaged with it, and when it made the most obnoxious and anti-useful character the team mascot I had to eject. Dropped at episode 8. 6/10

Eren x Fem!Reader: Keeping it a Secret

(Y/N) sat in the mirror fixing up her hair for her date with Eren tonight. She was really excited to finally experience something like this for the first time, even if she had to do it in a sneaky way.

Thing was, Levi was her dad.

Eren was very shocked the first time he heard that (Y/N) was in fact Levi's daughter. Being honest, she didn't have much of his features. The only thing she had was his height, and that was about it. The boy was a bit scared to be around him sometimes, fearing he'd say the wrong thing and get his ass beat by him again.

(Y/N) assured him though that Levi wouldn't do a thing, and he could trust her dad. Eren wasn't so sure though.

Thing was, Levi had no idea that (Y/N) and Eren were together. He always assumed that she was single, and she had no romantic feelings towards any of the cadets. (Y/N) wanted to tell her father, but she wasn't so sure how he would even react to that kind of thing.

It is Eren Jaeger she's talking about, the suicidal maniac that is a titan shifter.

(Y/N) was in her own room. Being the daughter of Levi Ackerman had it's perks, she liked having her space, so she didn't have to be bothered by anyone and have to deal with sleeping in a room with a bunch of other people. Plus, like Levi, she liked to keep clean.

"Almost done" she said to herself as she fixed her hair up.

He had no idea she was going on a date that night. Levi assumed she would just go out for walks, but on those walks she would be sneaking around with Eren.

Levi came to her room door to check in with her. He knocked. "Come in!" (Y/N) called.

Levi entered the room. "Hey- where are you going? Why are you dressed up?" he asked and furrowed his brows.

She had to think of an excuse. "Oh nowhere! I was just really bored" she replied and shrugged.

He didn't seem to believe what she was saying. "Are you sure? You've never been that dressed up before" he said and crossed his arms.

(Y/N) looked towards him. "C'mon dad, I get bored and do it all the time! Don't worry" she said and stood up.

She noticed the time and had to figure out how to get out without him being suspicious. "Just get to bed (Y/N). You need the rest, I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight" Levi said and looked towards her.

She nodded. "Night dad!" she replied and waved.

(Y/N) heard the door click. She leaned back in her chair, she had to figure out what to do. She didn't want to leave Eren in their hangout spot, that would be just horrible. She had to do the last option which was to sneak out. (Y/N) didn't like it, because she could get caught, and if she did, her dad wouldn't be happy at all.

She looked at the clock in her room noticing she had less than 10 minutes to meet with Eren, she had to think fast. His office was right near her room, and Levi had a tendency to check in on her from time to time. His insomnia made it easy.

She decided to stuff pillows under her blankets. "This should work.." she said and pulled the blankets over the pillows.

(Y/N) turned off the lights a few times to make sure that it looked somewhat realistic. It did look like someone was sleeping there, so she decided to just leave while she could.

She opened her room door slowly. Making sure to not make too much noise. She peered down the hall, it seemed like the coast was clear.

(Y/N) went down the corridor that lead outside, she felt the chilly air envelop itself on her skin. She shivered a bit as she made her way towards the meeting spot her and Eren would go to since they started dating.

Eren noticed her in the distance, and instantly smiled when she stood in front of him. "Hey.. you look great" he said and smiled.

She blushed a bit. "Thank you! So do you" she replied and eyed him in his outfit.

Eren felt nervous, he wasn't sure how the date would go. "Let's get going" he said and took her hand into his.

He couldn't help but admire how pretty she looked in the dress she wore, it fit her perfectly, and her face looked so nice in the moonlight. Eren always thought she was beautiful.

"I wonder how the food will be" (Y/N) said and looked at him.

He chuckled. "Yeah me too... hopefully they have something we like" he replied and smiled.

When the two finally reached the restaurant they were seated instantly. (Y/N) felt a little nervous, she hadn't ever been on a date, and she didn't want it to be weird or make Eren uncomfortable. He always somehow made her nervous, even with how long they had been dating.

"I don't know what to get" Eren said and looked up at her.

She shrugged. "Yeah me neither, but I think we'll find something" she replied and smiled at him.

Eren blushed at the sight of her smile. "Y-You know... your smile is really nice" he said and rubbed the back of his neck.

(Y/N) giggled. "Aw! Thank you Eren.. yours is too" she replied and blushed a bit too.

He smiled. "You're amazing you know?" he said and held her hand.

She rolled her eyes playfully. "Not as amazing as you are" she replied.

Meanwhile, back at HQ, Levi sat in his office filling out different reports. He knew it was going to be a long night, he had so many to do, and he couldn't just sleep them away. He sat there just staring blankly in his office. He was quite bored at the moment.

He decided to go and get a cup of tea, it would be the only thing that could make him relax at the moment.

Levi exited his office and passed by (Y/N)'s bedroom door. He listened for a second, she must have been sleeping since it was quiet. It wasn't that late though, it was around 9 o'clock. He shrugged it off thinking that maybe she was just tired.

But something was telling him that something wasn't right.

Levi wasn't sure why, but he felt as if something was off right now. As he made his tea this feeling wouldn't go away, it's like his instincts were telling him that something was wrong. He couldn't shake it either. It was bothering him a lot.

"Tch.." he said and took his tea cup.

Levi decided to leave his tea cup in his office, and go check on his daughter. He just wanted to shake that instinct in him, and go back to working on the reports.

He knocked on her door and waited for a response. Levi noticed it was still quiet. Maybe she was just asleep?

He decided to enter her room. It was dark and he noticed she was in her bed. Levi sighed with relief, but before he could leave, he noticed something was off. Her body was longer that it should have been, and (Y/N) was always curled up whenever she slept. This was weird to Levi.

He walked closer to her bed, and pulled down the sheets to reveal pillows?! (Y/N) was gone. Levi felt a rush of fear go through him, where the hell did she go?

Levi left her room quickly, and rushed outside. He noticed that it was quiet, and she wasn't outside. He decided to go to Erwin and Hanji, maybe she was with them right now, but it wouldn't explain why she would stuff her bed with pillows.

"Hanji!" Levi yelled as he got to her office.

The brunette looked up. "Huh? What is it Levi?" she asked and nodded.

"Have you seen (Y/N)? She's not in her bed" he asked.

She shook her head. "No I haven't... did she sneak out? That isn't like her" she replied and shrugged.

He rolled his eyes. "I don't know! But she probably did if she stuffed her bed with pillows" Levi said and crossed his arms.

Hanji shrugged. "She'll turn up eventually! Just relax" she said and walked over to him.

"How can I relax!? My daughter isn't where she's supposed to be!" he yelled.

Levi left Hanji and began to wander all over HQ. He practically turned it upside down looking for (Y/N), he was beyond worried at this point. He didn't want her to be in a bad situation.

(Y/N) and Eren were having a good time on their date. They were on the way back, she had a plan to get back in safely without her dad ripping her head off.

She shivered a bit. "Are you cold?" Eren asked and nodded.

She smiled. "Just a little" she replied and laughed a bit.

Eren took off his jacket and put it over her shoulders. "Here... it's the least I could do" he said and put his arm around her shoulder.

She blushed a bit. "Thank you" she said and looked down at the ground.

The two stopped and faced one another. "Tonight was fun" Eren said and smiled at her.

(Y/N) nodded. "I have to agree" she replied and looked up into his eyes.

He gave her a kiss. "I'll see you tomorrow" he said and winked.

She giggled. "For sure" she said and began to make her way back to her room.

(Y/N) quickly made her way back to her room. She looked around making sure the coast was clear, she opened the door to her room, and got the surprise of her life when she saw her dad sitting on her bed.

"D-Dad! What are you doing here?" she asked and looked around nervously.

Levi was not happy at all. "What am I doing here? (Y/N) what the fuck! Where the hell were you!?" he asked and stood up.

She flinched a bit as he yelled. "I was just out having a walk! It was nothing bad" she replied.

Levi eyed her outfit, she was wearing a dress, and she was wearing someone's jacket.

"I can tell you're lying. You have a dress on, now tell me right now... where the fuck were you?" he asked.

(Y/N) looked down. "I was with someone" she replied.

Levi's eyes were wide. "Who? Who the hell was with you?" he asked.

She sighed. "I was on a date... with Eren" she replied and crossed her arms.

Anger rushed through him, why the hell was she with him!? "Eren huh? Why? Why did you sneak out? Do you know how worried I was?" he said and put his hands on her shoulder.

"Dad I-" he cut her off.

"No (Y/N), there's no buts! Did he touch you? Did he do anything to hurt you?" Levi asked.

She looked up at him. "No! Eren didn't do anything to me. We've.. we..." she trailed off.

"You what? What is it?" he asked.

Levi took his hands off her shoulders. "I see.. I should have known. You two were always so close with each other" he said.

Levi looked down at his daughter. "How long have you been together?" he asked and furrowed his brows.

She looked down. "5 months" she replied.

Levi sat down on her bed. "Why did you hide it?" he asked.

She sighed. "I just didn't want you be upset. I know how you feel about Eren, and I got scared you would break us apart." she replied and leaned against the wall.

Levi looked at her. "I feel like it would have been better if you told me. I love you (Y/N), I know I don't see eye to eye with Eren, but it would have been good to know" he said.

(Y/N) sat down next to him. "I'm sorry for not telling you" she replied.

He patted her head. "Don't worry about it, I could see why you hid it" he said.

"Are you gonna beat the shit out of Eren?" she asked and laughed a bit.

Alina “I’m so happy to be outside I start to shine like a fucking fairy” Starkov and Mal is entranced. He’s definitelly nicer now. I’m not forgiving him for all the shit he’s pulled before and for using the silent treatment way too much, but hey, at least he’s improving.

I am not a Zoyalina person, but like... gay? Please? Rivals to grudging allies to friends to lovers, 300k slowburn? Sounds more fun than whatever Mala dn Alina have going on, lol.

(I’m starting to realize I’m not as much a Darklina person as I am anti-Malina person, lol. Like, literally everyone has a more interesting dynamic with Alina than tracker boy over there. Malina is at best boring AF and at worst toxic, codependent and emotionally abusive, while also being boring AF at the same time. It has literally nothing going for it except God herself liking it).

I can see why Nadia is gay in the show. The book version of her definitelly has a crush on Tamar. Homegirl likes a woman, who can murder her with the flick of her wrist and honestly? Same.

Alina has some big “coming out of lockdown after a year” energy atm.

The cat is one of the most realistic characters in this thing, lol.

And since Tamar is also heavily queercoded, our lovely ladies make off into the night, flirting. Or maybe not. Let me dream, though.

At least Blade Boy is aware that his tattoo is stupid. To quote someone ranting about him on tumblr: He’s embracing his identity as a tool.

Oh, boy, this will be fun.

Evil soldier is horny for Mal. Saints, is there a woman in this book who isn’t horny for Blade Boy?

And here comes Niki to save the day.

Jesus Christ, this one crazy kid has moved the technology in this universe a whole century on his own. So, when is David going to propose to him?

Baghra’s about to drop some truthbombs, but no, we have to be rudely interupted because Genya’s rapist is throwing a fit.

How does Mal sound? Is she gonna say the Blade boy sounds like her dad? I mean, I know voices are partially genetic, but it has been tens of generations between them, probably.

So, we’re finally taking Genya’s trauma seriously after all this time? Good. Better late than never, I guess.

I wish that regicide was already finished and I’m pretty sure that Genya does, too. Stop defending the fucking king, narrative.

David’s a nerd in all things I see.

i wrote a review of the cat game "stray" but steam won't let me post it bc i played thru library sharing so i'm posting it here

TL;DR: This was not always the cozy, chill game I'm seeing others describe, so if you were looking something entirely cute and relaxing, skip this one unless/until you're down for some stress here and there. Other than that, the game's pretty straightforward but varied, so you're likely to find something you like, but you're also likely to find something you don't. Mixed feelings overall. Try it, I guess?

I have mixed feelings about this game. It tries to do a lot of things (maybe too much?), and it doesn't excel at all of them, but I think it was a good first shot for the studio. I liked the exploring, puzzle platforming, some realistic cat mannerisms, and the visuals (most of the time--more on that later). Like some others have mentioned, I didn't really feel any attachment to characters aside from the cat, to the point where the emotional beats didn't hit for me. The environments are artistically well done. It feels like that's where the most love when into. It was fun getting to know the areas more than the characters. I think whoever was in charge of deciding colors and lighting throughout the explorable areas should get an award or something. However, there's also rampant orientalism, which sours even the best part of the game a little. I'm still trying to decide how I feel about the city being based on a real historical place that carries a lot of pain, but not addressing it or representing anyone tied to that place outside of rice paddy hats and Buddism. So again, mixed bag. For me, doesn't live up to the hype, which is disappointing because I've been looking forward to this game since it was revealed years ago.

That said, my original intent in writing a review was to mention some things I wish I knew about going in, since I don't see many people mentioning it.

CONTENT WARNING: Animal injury and/or death, obviously, but varying in intensity The "game over" screens depict the cat's death, which might bother anyone sensitive to that sort of thing. There's no blood or gore, but enemies will keep attacking the cat even when it's already down. Most of the time, I wasn't too bothered since you could quickly retry, but seeing the cat get tased while my controller rumbled at one point was jarring. I know it's not a real cat, but I was uncomfortable nonetheless, especially considering the cat is pretty realistically rendered. I wish the game cut to black at the moment of failure instead--showing the death doesn't add to the stakes. It (along with an achievement for dying 9 times? And the part where you have to lure robot guards into shooting at this cat?) just seems like an odd thing to include in a game that wants you to care about this cat and one that will attract cat lovers.

CONTENT WARNING: Body horror (?) and scopophobia There's meat and eye stuff, so maybe not great for people who are squeamish. You can see a brief glimpse of it in the trailers on Steam. I mostly mention it because the reviews are right in that the game is gorgeous, except for the brief moments it's not. I wasn't aware of it before playing because I saw the reveal years ago and I prefer to go in blind as much as I can. Some people are into that aesthetic or don't mind it, but that section was pretty gross for me and I'd rather not have seen it after a meal. Thankfully, it doesn't last all the way through.

Your reverse robin au is such an odd take on Tim? I don't hate it though? I am... confused

YES I GET TO TALK ABOUT TIM. Warning that this is probably going to be long, because Reverse Robin!Tim is probably one of the most complicated characters I've ever written, psychologically. Because Tim is my favorite character in comics, just behind Bart Allen, and I've been in love with him since I was 9. Also I'm going to talk about how we write comic book fanfic I am SO sorry you've unleashed a kraken. I'll put a cut later because Tumblr's bugging and not letting me. Content warning for discussions of suicide, self-harm, PTSD, drug and alcohol mentions, addiction, and homicidal urges.

 How do we write comic book fanfic? It's tremendously difficult. Especially for the Batfam: it's such a soap opera, if you take every single little thing as canon everybody ends up a sociopath. In comics, Bruce has PUNCHED Dick in canon. So we make up our fanon. But if we keep too closely to fanon, then you end up with fairly unrecognizable characters, which is no fun to read. And...a lot of Batfamily fanfic is just Bruce as a great dad with a hoard of adorable children. It's boring to me.  So what do we do? Well, I like to keep a character recognizable while still kind of doing what I want and what I find most nuanced and realistic. You can't completely divorce from canon, but you really should just keep to the essentials of the character. This is subjective - I find it essential to Bruce that he's not really a great parent, but he's constantly trying and working on it. Not everyone feels that way - valid. 

 So what I consider essential to Tim is this: he's a socially awkward nerd. He always feels extraneous and neglected, because he's insecure, because he was a victim of childhood neglect. For most of his life, he really doesn't consider himself Bruce's kid. He's crazy intelligent and good with computers. He's a better detective than Bruce. He has a ton of friends who love him very much, but he shows a different face to them than to his family. He has lost basically everybody he has ever cared about at one point or another and just kinda gotten on with his life, which if you want to be realistic about it was probably hugely traumatizing and a huge sign that Tim kind of boxes himself away. That's Tim to me. Everything else is flexible. And although Tim in the Reverse Robin AU is a COMPLETE FUCKING MANIAC, he is still all of those things.

 I've done it differently in other roleswap aus, but the idea behind the Reverse Robin is that everybody is half themselves, half who they were switched with. Damian is reserved and cold, but he is just as much 'oldest daughter syndrome' as Dick. Jason is intellectual and rough (which is canon!), but he is just as much of a mediator who feels like he has to single-handedly keep the family together as Tim (which is canon especially in very early Tim - check Knightfall, the stupid Gotham Earthquake thing, and his introduction). Dick is loving and hyper, but he's just as reserved and resentful and alien to America as Damian. So, Tim is all of the things I listed, so I can establish that he's basically Tim. But he is as batshit crazy as Red Hood!Jason. He's just as cruel, resentful, self-harming, desperate, alienated, attention-seeking, groomed by Talia and Ra's, and just bugfuck insane because of the Pit. He's also been low-key mentally ill his entire life due to his complete and total isolation and childhood neglect. His life ended through torture and suicide. In 'the prophetic spring', he is at Jason's lowest point in his life - and his own.

 But, and this is important, Tim as Red Hood does not work. Jason became a drug lord because he came from that background. Tim's spoiled and rich. Jason had a motivation, a reason to live, a Bruce to hate and a Dick that always reached out. Tim doesn't have this. Tim is listless and purposeless - and I say several times that Tim is cosplaying this life. He's cosplaying wanting to kill his friends, being an addict, being a supervillain. Without Bruce, without that target of hate, Tim is lost. Without his dad, who loved him, Tim is lost.

 It's important to understand that everything he does in 'the prophetic spring' in self-harm. He thinks of himself as a monster (because Tim was raised by Bruce and he's extremely rigidly moral, and he can't reconcile his morality with what he did while he was pit-mad), and as a result he wants everybody else in his life to think of himself as a monster. He wants to be hated as much as he hates himself, because at least that's real and validates his feelings. He thinks of himself as the lowest of the low, so he performs his image of a spoiled party boy - the kind of person he's never been, and who he always hated, because he thinks of himself as the person who ruined Tim Drake, not Tim Drake. The drugs and alcohol are self harm (and I'd say, in my essential interp, that Tim has an addictive personality). Having sex is self-harm for him specifically because he's sex-averse. Alienating everybody who ever loved him is self-harm. Practically begging Damian to put him in Arkham is self-harm. This is a 20 year old unstable kid who wants to self-harm until he dies or his family kills him, because he is suicidal. He's still clinging on because he doesn't want to do it himself, but if someone kills him no big deal, and if he overdoses he probably deserved it.

 It IS confusing! As readers we are used to traumatized characters who seek catharsis, affection, and safety. We want the hurt and the comfort. But I really wanted to highlight how fucking ugly PTSD is. It can genuinely make you into a cruel and hurtful person. Tim is suicidal and he responds by becoming an addict, rejecting his family and friends so nobody can try to help him, and lashing out nonstop because he wants to punish the people who love him for loving a monster. And because he wants to punish the people he blames for his death - Bruce and Damian. The Joker. But Bruce is dead and the Joker’s dead Damian isn't giving him the attention he wants...so what does he do? He's lost. And so 'the prophetic spring' is the story of someone who is so fucking lost that he tries to destroy his own life because he can't bring himself to end it again. 

 Hope that cleared stuff up. I really love Tim. You probably didn't need that amount of detail but I am psychically compelled to share these things...partly because most people take Tim's incredible trauma and just make him a cute woobie..no guys make him mean. People are mean sometimes. Fiction exaggerates and magnifies - so many hurt people WANT to do the stuff Tim does, but their lives aren't a comic book soap opera so they don't. I wanted to highlight that real pain. Thanks for asking!!!

Destiel fic recs #3 - the (mostly) longfic edition!

It’s been a while since my last rec post - mostly because I’ve been wallowing in a number of longer fics (50-350k!) so it’s taken me a while to have enough to talk about in one post (and boy do I talk a lot, here!)

With these longer fics, I do sometimes have some caveats with my recs - or at least reasons why they might not appeal to every Dean/Cas reader. But note that if I didn’t overall strongly recommend reading the fic I wouldn’t include it in my recs here at all, so any quibbles I bring up are minor compared to my overall enjoyment of the stories. Just, I don’t want someone to commit to a long read without knowing what they’re getting into and why it might not be their thing.

I’m still not into reading complete setting AUs at this time, but a lot/most of these are canon-divergence AUs, often written/set at the end of a season and giving an alternative take on what happened next. I love those kind of stories, as it’s often so interesting to see how fans thought of what might happen in the next season (especially when it’s better than what we actually got.)

Onto the recs & discussion behind the cut!

The Sinking Ship by UnfortunatelyObsessed (114k). This is a story that ripped my heart to pieces (in a good way!). I stayed up all night to finish reading because I simply couldn’t stop once I started on it and it gave me a massive fic hanger from all my emotions. Season 14 divergence, imagine if Dean did go into the Ma’lak box to trap Michael under the ocean with him forever...and once there, he discovers that Cas has stowed away with him. Because of course Cas would never leave Dean to such a fate on his own.

I loved literally. Every. Damn. Thing. About this fic. Cas telling Dean stories to pass the (endless) time. Their small intimate moments while realizing they can never consummate physically while trapped in the box but finding every other way to express their love. The absolute heartbreak that had me SOBBING when Michael fights for control of Dean and destroys everything they’ve built together and Cas thinks he’s lost Dean forever. Sam & Gabriel & Rowena & Claire & Jack doing everything they can to devise a plan back home to try to save them both while keeping Michael trapped. Also even just the wonderfully sensitive portrayal of aroace Jack still closely bonded with Claire and Maggie and just. And just. This is a story I’ve already re-read just to savor how much I loved it and its portrayal of everyone in TFW 2.0 and their extended family, it just hit my id in all the most incredible ways and I have nothing but absolute love for this one.

Beautiful Chaos by anyrei, mugglerock (141k). Season 9 canon-divergence, in which Dean doesn’t simply abandon Cas to fend for himself post 09x03. Instead he sets Cas up in a kind of squatter’s nest in an abandoned building near the bunker so he can keep tabs on him and help him out. 

This fic definitely gets the award for FILTHIEST, HOTTEST, SMUTTIEST Dean/Cas (and Cas/other) I’ve read in, like, ever, for human!Cas turns out to be a rather insatiable sex fiend/cock slut and Dean is too up his own repressed ass to easily give Cas what he wants/needs. It is dark at times, Cas ends up in some very unsavory/non-con situations, and the authors do mention that they tried to hone in on endverse!Cas’s characterization more than what we saw in Season 9...so you might roll with it, you might not. I adored their original character Jerry the tattoo artist in this, and like I said it was seriously hot (if you are good with total bottom!Cas and Cas with others, I know those are not everyone’s cuppa). I did have a few minor issues. For one, the last chapter felt a bit rushed and hand-wavey, but clearly the authors weren’t fond of the canon conflicts of season 9 & 10 (Abbadon, Mark of Cain) and just wanted to be done with them. Can’t say I really blame them. And I did have to laugh a bit at Lebanon, Kansas apparently having such a bustling gay bar/tattoo artist/etc scene being someone from a butt-fuck nowhere American small town myself. But, SPN was never all that realistic in how Lebanon was shown (and yes I’ve spent too much time roaming around it on Google maps), so if you can suspend some disbelief this is an awesome hot/angsty/occasionally heartbreaking read.

These Forsaken Lands by destielpasta (53k). I came upon this story when looking for fics that dealt in some way with the aftermath of Godstiel. This is a wonderfully atmospheric late Season 9 “fill-in” case fic (post Meta-fiction) where Cas ends up in a small town that had been visited by Godstiel...and while initially residents have reaped much good fortune, there has suddenly been a wave of deaths/bad events and he is determined to find out what happened and set things right. He calls upon Dean for help, but Dean is fighting the Mark of Cain and it’s going to take a lot to get past its control and find a way out for both of them. Together they work on repairing an old church while trying to repair each other and their damaged relationship.

I loved this story for how well written it was, really invoking a gothic small-town/Americana atmosphere. The original characters blend in very well with the case-fic at the center of it, and the author deals really well with Cas at a very fragile point when he’s running on borrowed grace and trying to navigate Dean’s MoC-enhanced anger. It’s Dean/Cas but actually much more of a Cas character study, so I highly recommend it to my fellow/compatriot Cas-girls who love a good wallow in his head.

Mixed Emotions by Tierra469 (50k). Canon 12 “parallel” fic that then goes canon-divergent with the season finale. I actually stumbled on this while in the mood to read some Cas/ or & Mary fic after enjoying their interactions in Season 12 (don’t hate me). This is sort of two fics in one. The first half focuses mostly on filling in the gaps with some critical S12 Cas episodes, especially Cas & Mary’s developing friendship (and one night of something more). But of course Cas’s feelings for Dean (and vice-versa) are always there, and when Cas figures out a way to get his powers fully back, the question is if Dean can open himself up to be vulnerable - and express love - the way Cas needs for this to work.

This was an interesting fic in a lot of ways. I loved the author’s take on angels’ connections to their vessels and grace, it was very consistent in a way the show sometimes/often wasn’t. Cas is very Cas in not understanding privacy and personal boundaries (so he does some questionable things, admittedly, which might squick some readers). The smut is fucking HOT - though I will caution at one point it involves Cas temporarily in a younger (NOT underage) female vessel (and the story does point out Dean’s discomfort with this and some of the consent issues involved, I don’t want to spoil too much). I wanted the Mary plot resolved more than it was, but I still recommend this story strongly for the quality of the writing and unique/well-developed take on angel lore and mechanics that was quite different from what I’m used to reading.

We Are Either Here Or Not Here by petramacneary (54k) A post-season 12 fic that goes on a different tangent to how Cas returns, and what happens in the meantime. Particularly, it offers a different take on what apocalypseverse!Cas would be like—as Mary makes her own way back from that world with AU!Cas as her prisoner.

What I loved about this story: first off, BAMF!Mary is awesome here. Dean is so heartbreaking, not quite knowing what the fuck to do with this different Cas who at times is just a painful reminder of who/what Dean’s lost...but then becomes a chance for Dean to say and express some of the things he always was afraid to in the past. And when (real/our) Cas finally returns, there’s some very interesting stuff that happens with both Cas & AU!Cas and Cas & Dean that I don’t want to spoil. (And let’s also just say that when real!Cas and Dean finally get together it’s AMAZINGLY awesome. Like, hot Impala!sex. So is the artwork that goes with this story.)

You Can Keep Holding On by NorthernSparrow (353k) The longest fic I read this time around and probably the one I have the most mixed feelings about, but a while on I do keep thinking about parts of it so I do rec it with some caveats. This is a canon-divergence after the end of Season 11. Dean & Sam find Cas after he’s been blasted out of the bunker...to the bottom of the Grand Canyon. Mary isn’t in this one except for a brief appearance/visit, which Dean thinks is Amara’s gift to him. Life seems good for a while, they’re enjoying dealing with mundane problems for a change, but then Cas seems to be pulling away from the brothers, spending less and less time with them at the bunker, taking a mundane job at another Gas ‘n Sip, and clearly preoccupied by something else. Or is it someone else? Dean is worried yet finally ready to accept that Cas maybe has a girlfriend, or a boyfried, but then it turns out that is not at all what Cas has going on. It’s something far more serious than that.

Honestly I almost stopped reading when the reveal happened - it’s a subject that’s very sensitive to me from personal/family experience and not something I usually like reading in fic (especially if there is a sad ending.) So I admit I jumped ahead to read how it would end first before committing to finishing it. And I am glad I did, because the author handles the subject matter with a realism and obvious knowledge of experience as well, not how I often see it in fanfic. There are a lot of emotional ups and downs but it’s nice seeing Dean in his momma-hen/mode, and Sam is so so good in this one! I think I enjoyed Sam’s characterization here most of all! And the author has a really cool/well developed angel/wing lore that hit my wing-kink pretty hard. I do think it could have all been edited down a bit - I found myself skimming parts, especially in the last third, just to get on with things. But it’s definitely a story you can disappear into for a good long time and I’ve bookmarked the author’s other works to read later, so again, I do rec it even with a few caveats.

A few shorter fics, too, just because I don’t want to forget about them...

Eleven Erogenous Zones of a Fallen Angel by almaasi (15k) Pure gratuitous wing!kink for me :) Cas uses the last of his grace to manifest his wings...but then is stuck with them in his human form and not even able to use them to fly as he used to. This presents a lot of awkward problems to deal with but also the excuse for Dean to help him keep them clean :) I did say wing kink, right? :D :D I loved how Cas seemed confused about the pleasure signals he got from bathing vs. sex vs. grooming and all of that. It’s sweet and hot and has my favorite kind of caretaking Dean in it.

Fossil Tracks by SegaBarrett  (3k). Dean & Sam & Cas and dinosaurs. How can you go wrong with that? One of the SPN stories from the Id Pro Quo collection I really enjoyed reading (and didn’t write myself, lol).
