Billy is six years old and he doesn’t understand death.
Billy is six years old and his parents are dead. His mom is found laying on the floor of her hotel room, covered in her own blood. His dad’s body is trapped beneath the rubble, devoid of sunlight.
Billy is six years old and his sister is gone. They can’t find her body. They can’t find her clothes. They can’t find her blood or her hair. She’s just gone.
Billy is six years old and he doesn’t understand death.
He waits for them to come home. Whispers at night that he hates his uncle.
Billy is six years old and he thinks it’s his fault they haven’t come home. He got bad grades. He can’t understand the equations on the board. He made his parents leave him home. He became a burden, so they left him. Mary must think the same too, because she hasn’t come home either.
Billy is six years old and his entire life has changed. They brought his mom back, but she isn’t moving. Her eyes are closed and she isn’t moving or breathing. Dad isn’t with her.
He thinks that’s all wrong. Dad loved mom more than anything in the universe. He would never leave her. And they wouldn’t leave Mary to fend for herself. It doesn’t matter how much they must’ve hated him. He knew, with every fiber of his being, that they loved Mary.
Billy is seven years old, and he watches them lower his mother’s body into the ground from a distance. He stands behind a tree as eulogies are delivered, and two more stones are added on either side. The boxes are empty.
They have the nerve to pray for him.
Billy is seven years old and an adult finally believes in him. He finds a world of mystic and magic and impossibilities turned to possibilities.
Billy is eight when he finally uses the Historama. He’s curious. He’s tired. He’s lonely. He wants the truth.
Billy is eight when he finally understands death. His parents aren’t away because they hate him. His parents are away because they’re gone.
And yet, he can’t shake the feeling that Mary is still alive.
- - -
Mary doesn’t remember how old she is.
She has nightmares and visions and hears voices from a long forgotten past. She can’t sleep without waking up screaming. She sees faces she can’t put names to. She loves her adoptive parents, but the chasm in her heart is too deep.
Mary doesn’t remember what she likes or dislikes. She lives in a big house now, with her own room. But she likes sleeping when someone else is sleeping with her. She doesn’t think she’s ever had her own room.
Mary doesn’t remember how old she is, but she remembers the feeling of a sharp, cold hand on her shoulder, guiding her onto a boat with a name that she knows isn’t hers. She doesn’t know where she lives. She doesn’t know who her family is, or if she even has a family.
Mary doesn’t remember how old she is, but she remembers a towel over her mouth. Zoning out. Her memories floating away from her. Yelling and screaming for a mom and a dad. Something about B—
Mary doesn’t remember how old she is, and she can’t shake the feeling that she left someone behind.

I cant tell what canon callbacks would hurt me worse reading in those “Black Adam decides to adopt Billy after learning his nemesis is a kid” stories
Because, one hand, Theo Adam and tangentially Black Adam in Billys mind being his parents literal murderer
Or, Billy’s personality and/or physical appearance reminding Adam of the nephew he murdered for sole control of the powers of Shazam back in the day
Either way it’s death related and both are hurting. It’s delicious but man is it painful

Black Adaaamm~! ♥
In my little 8"x5" sketchbook. 2 different portraits in colored pencils and ink. One with purple undertone, and other with green undertone. 2nd one...the yellow is more subtle, but my dang scanner intensifies it. >_<;;

Okay, so, I’m always talking about what happened to the Batson family at Abu Simbel in THEIR POV, but I’ve never taken the time to think about how everyone ELSE thought about it.
Just stick with me here.
You have an absolute bloodbath going on here. Nema, Saied, Marilyn. Nema and Marilyn are dead, and Saied apparently loses his voice! He’s not dead, but a vital part of himself is gone at such an old age.
Mary and Theo go missing. It’s heavily suspected that he kidnapped her and killed the two women, also wounding Saied. CC’s missing qnd/or presumed dead. Unfortunately, Saied is the only witness. The only person alive who saw Theo leave the collapsing temple.
Some believe Saied, others don’t. There are always going to be sleuths who take the story in an entirely different direction. It’s just one man’s words on paper. What if CC stole whatever they found and ran off, leaving his wife and daughter to die?
A witness says that Mary was walking back to the hotel with her tutor. It was the last time anyone saw her. Then, her tutor turns up dead. Mary’s things are still in the room. Even her doll. It’s like she disappeared.
Why leave the girl alive, people think. Maybe because he didn’t. Maybe he kidnapped her and killed her in a far off location. Maybe they left her some place to starve, as she’d never ventured this far without an adult.
Maybe a camera catches a glimpse of Theo Adam walking onto a boat. But by the time the authorities catch wind of this, it’s already been weeks.
The Sivana corporation is put under suspicion by those who say he was the one who arranged for the Batsons and Nema to die. There’s a little boy running around telling whoever will listen that his sister has to be alive. His foster parents call him crazy, say that he’s more trouble than he’s worth.
Those who believe CC’s innocent are asking if it’s possible to dig around the temple for his body. No matter how mangled it is, he needs to be back in his home. But, whether it’s Ebenezer or Sivana Co. refusing to waste time and money, or Egypt’s feds not wanting any more traction, or just an excuse on both parties that the rubble is too heavy, it doesn’t matter.
In other news, it seems like the rest of the family isn’t willing to talk all that much. Though some friends of Nora Bromfield have said that she’s much too busy, what with her new adopted daughter. This surprised some, as Nick Bromfield has never had the cleanest track record. But papers can’t lie, can they? (Spoiler: yes, they can).

Uncle and Nephew
Background: In the Power of Shazam, Billy Batson and Theo Adam were originally Uncle and nephew. Not biologically speaking but relationship wise. Mary as a matter of fact calls him uncle when he kidnaps her. I like the idea and decided to add that in a Head-Cannon.
In this Head-Cannon, Billy and Theo having this type of relationship could be a callback to Adam's own nephew Amon. This could explain some of the fondness Adam may have towards Billy. Theo Adam is the descendent of Black Adam and is the host for him as well. If Adam were to say the word "SHAZAM" he would be turned into back into Theo. It could be Theo's unconscious that stops Adam from ever really hurting Billy. This isn't the only time Billy and Theo's family intertwine as when Theo kidnaps Mary, he leaves her in the care of his sister.
