Aftermath
Jay Halstead
Tumblr media
Pairing: Jay Halstead x Sister!Reader
Description: People always tend to forget about the aftermath.
Words: 2,122
Requested: yes by anonymous; second, if it's ok i wanted to request a part two to the imagine? i was wondering if you could just explore the aftermath of her assault, as she continues to heal and accept what's happened to her. by this i mean experiencing ptsd and having nightmares, flashbacks and dealing with certain triggers. also, maybe she could still sometimes turn to substances as many survivors do, and just break down sometimes. obviously since it's a halstead sister fic and i love the support system in the last story, i'd love to see jay helping her through everything and being super protective + some scenes with the rest of intelligence? but it's obviously up to you. thank you so much <3
Warnings: mention of drinking, sexual assault, drugs, language, PTSD, Jay Halstead and all of Intelligence being the best.
A/N: This is the long awaited part two to Infliction, and by long-awaited I mean like a month later. I tried to make the end light hearted because it seemed like a good way to go. I apologize in advance for any grammatical errors.
It had been a few weeks since the party and things were beginning to look up. You and Brayden started hanging out more and it was safe to say the two of you were on your way to becoming best friends. The group of guys had all been arrested and sent far away from you. You, Jay, and Will have been having more frequent family movie nights instead of them heading out to Molly's every free night they got. Intelligence had basically adopted you as one of their own and even went out of their way to hang out with you. Kim and Hailey had girls nights away from the ever-annoying guys they work with. Adam and Kevin practically chauffeured you to hangouts with Brayden and took you out to your favorite diner on the weekends. Even Hank had called you once in a while as a check-in and to keep you informed about your case. Overall things seemed to be getting better for you.
Except for one little detail. Your PTSD was hitting you like a truck. Of course, the only person who even remotely knew what was happening was Brayden because he was the one person you spent most of your time with. Thankfully he was there to help ground you and calm you down when it all became too much for you. This wasn't sudden, it's been building up since it happened and clearly you needed to work on accepting it rather than shoving it all down. That's one thing you and Jay had in common, the two of you always had trouble addressing your problems no matter how big they became.
Currently, you were laying in bed and staring up at your ceiling that Jay had covered in stars for you. If there was one thing about you is that you still are a child at heart. You had been shocked awake by your recurring nightmare. It always followed the same premise of the night of the party but every night there were either different people, points of view, or different actions you took that still led you to the same outcome. There were dried tears staining your cheeks that you hadn't bothered to wipe away and every few moments there would be a soft sniffle to break the eerie silence.
Having enough of staring up at your ceiling you let out a low huff and pushed yourself up to a sitting position. You turned to the side and looked at the clock resting on your nightstand. The clock read 4:19 AM which was clearly too early for you to be up but too late for you to try and go back to sleep before Jay's rustling while getting ready would wake you up. Reaching over to open the drawer in your nightstand you checked the small bottle hidden under the glasses case that held your blue light ones. It was three-quarters full of vodka you had inconspicuously stolen from Jay's cabinet. You kept promising yourself that you wouldn't drink anymore, but clearly, that wasn't really panning out in your favor. Sure you would have a swig or two before braving yourself and heading off to school but it was to take the edge off, not to get drunk.
If Jay were to check through your drawer he'd probably think otherwise. You had stopped with the pills since he had found you, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him so you continued to drink. Obviously, it wasn't a lot and definitely not enough to get you drunk off your ass. You just wanted to be buzzed enough to have the courage to walk into your dreaded school every morning and deal with the numerous triggers you kept on discovering.
Eventually, it was time for you actually start getting ready for school. Jay had already left for work a while ago, leaving a kiss on your head before stepping out the door. You pulled on a random outfit that was comfortable and your usual pair of shoes before throwing your backpack over your shoulder and walked downstairs. Deciding against your worst judgment you made the choice to brave the day without the buzz of alcohol. Waiting at the front entrance of your building was Brayden. Like every morning the two of you would walk to school together if Jay had to go into the district early. If Jay only had paperwork that day he would drive the two of you to school instead, but that didn't happen very often.
The two of you walked to school silently, only exchanging a few words of greeting. Once you had made it to the large building you both had to split up for your classes. The day went on like usual, boring teachers droning on about upcoming assignments and tests. Lunch had arrived after what seemed like forever and you sat at an empty table practically half asleep. You held your head in your hand as you kept your eyes from slipping shut at the exhaustion.
"You not feeling too hot there?" One of your classmates from English asked as he passed by.
You froze at the familiar words before shaking yourself out of the memory.
"Fine, just tired." You brushed off their comment as he nodded with an understanding smile before continuing to his table.
Moments later the door opened and you picked your head up reluctantly. It was a few guys on the football team.
"You not feeling too hot there?" One of the seniors asked you.
You simply shook your head which only worsened the pain in it. The boys walked a few steps closer before placing their hands on your shoulders. They shoved you back onto the bed and immediately your body began to react.
You kicked and punched aimlessly to get them off of you but your movements were uncoordinated and your mind was foggy. There were too many of them and they began to overpower you, their hands wandering to unwanted places.
“Y/N?” Braydens voice pulled you out of the flashback.
“Huh?” Your teary eyes darted around his face before focusing on his concerned expression.
“Let’s head to the library, all right?” Brayden suggested already standing up from his seat across from you.
You nodded silently before hiking your bag over your shoulder and walked to the library beside him. Luckily at your school, they were lenient enough to let you head to the library during lunch. Usually, the kids didn’t take advantage of it but it was an unspoken spot of peace for you and Brayden.
The two of you sat at a table near the back and Brayden pulled a chair up beside you.
“Want to talk about what happened back at lunch?” Brayden asked softly.
You bit your lip in contemplation. This had been happening for weeks and every time you’d shake your head and change the subject. But the fact was it wasn’t getting better and you just needed to tell somebody that you weren’t okay. A few tears slipped out of your eyes which led to quiet sobs escaping from your lips. Brayden offered you a hug with outstretched arms, making sure to check if you were okay with it. You leaned forward into his embrace and squeezed his waist tightly. He held you there while rubbing soothing circles on your back until your cries stopped. You lifted your head off his chest and wiped away the remained tears on your cheeks before speaking up.
“Uh, flashbacks. I’ve been getting them for a while. I thought they’d go away, but they haven’t.” You explained with a sigh, avoiding his gaze and instead taking interest in your hands.
“Okay first, if they happen again tell me, or pull on my sleeve and I’ll get you somewhere quiet. Got it?” Brayden bent his head to try and get into your eye line.
You nodded your head with a hum before he spoke up again, “since they haven’t gone away maybe you should talk to someone. Preferably a professional, but if you’re only comfortable telling me then I’m all ears. Although, I’m not sure that I can cure you with magic, wish I could though.” Brayden tried to lighten the mood with his magic comment.
“Thanks, Brayden. Jay actually has been bugging me about seeing a therapist. Said it helped him with his PTSD, I think I might take him up on it.” You looked up at the boy with pursed lips.
“That’s good. Just know we’re not trying to force you into anything, we just want you to feel better however long that may take.” Brayden gave you a soft smile.
“You are wise beyond your years, you know that?” You smiled back with a small laugh.
“I try, I try.” Brayden shrugged nonchalantly.
“Can you come with me to the district after school?” You asked cautiously.
“Of course, not like I’d rather do my homework.” Brayden laughed.
“And there’s the Brayden I know.” You smiled widely.
Soon enough you and Brayden had been making your way to the twenty-first district to talk with Jay and probably the rest of Intelligence. The air was lighter between the two of you once you had finally started to open up. Of course, you hadn’t spilled everything but the little you had told him made the weight on your shoulders lessen slightly.
“Ah, baby Halstead and company, what brings you here?” Trudy greeted from the front desk with a tight-lipped smile. Even if she didn’t want to admit it, she had a soft spot for you.
“Can you ring us upstairs? I need to talk with Jay.” You asked.
“You’re lucky they haven’t caught a case today.” Trudy walked out from behind her desk and led you and Brayden upstairs.
“Thank you, Trudy.” You smiled and followed the woman.
“I have a special delivery for Detective Chuckles.” Trudy spoke up once the three of you reached the top of the steps.
Jay’s head snapped up from his desk with a look of confusion when his eyes landed on you. He quickly stood up and scanned you over for anything.
“What happened, are you all right?” Jay cupped your cheek in concern before sparing a glance at Brayden for any sign of something bad.
“I’m okay, I just needed to talk to you.” You reassured him.
“All right. You wanna head into the kitchen?” Jay asked.
“No, we could talk at your desk. They’re all gonna find out anyway.” You gestured to the rest of the unit who was watching the two of you intently.
Jay nodded his head and led you to his desk. You reached out and held onto Brayden’s arm as you pulled him along to take a seat and sit beside you. Of course, at this, the entire unit had gathered around with concerned faces once you started to explain to them. Jay’s expression was held with soft eyes as he listened to you agree with wanting to try therapy and asking for help.
Once you were done Jay stood up and placed a kiss on the top of your head before whispering into your hair, “I’m proud of you.” Jay pulled away to give you a warm smile.
“All right come here you little muffin.” Kim held out her arms with a smile.
You stepped forward into her embrace as she squeezed you tightly, she rocked the two of you from side to side eliciting a small giggle out of you. Hailey joined the hug with a laugh once Kim pulled her by the arm.
Antonio placed a hand on your shoulder once you, Hailey, and Kim pulled away, “I’m proud of you, kiddo.” He offered you a kind nod.
“So proud.” Kevin gave you one of his signature bear hugs.
“Okay, it’s my turn.” Adam squeezed his way to stand in front of you. Which caused everyone to laugh at his eagerness.
“I could never forget about you, Ruz.” You wrapped your arms around his shoulders as he lifted your toes off the ground.
“Are we done yet? You guys are treating my sister like an attraction.” Jay sassed.
“You’re just mad that you only got to kiss me on the head and not a hug.” You retorted from leaning back into Brayden with a smirk.
“No, not true.” Jay shook his head with furrowed brows.
“Yup, totally jealous.” You nodded convinced.
“How did we go from a serious topic to Halstead and mini Halstead having a sarcasm battle?” Adam questioned with a confused expression.
“I learned to stop questioning it.” Brayden shrugged from behind you.
“It’s how we cope. Halstead thing, I guess.” You said with raised brows.
“Fair enough.” Jay sighed.

Not What You're Thinking-Todoroki
Tumblr media
First time trying to hold their hand. Does it go right or wrong?
MHA Masterlist
+ Everyone knows how Todoroki is with emotions. He is aloof, unemotional, and unfortunately, cold. It was no surprise to anyone with you two haven’t ever shown any physical part of your relationship. What no one knew was it never happened when you two were on your own either. As a result, you start to think he doesn’t really have interest in you after all.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Things between Todoroki and I were moving slow and I mean really slow. A slow as a glacier, no pun intended. We were currently walking towards lunch and I was walking towards Todoroki like normal. I wanted to hold the boys hand very badly but I didn’t want to rush him.
“What are you going to get today, L/N?” Uraraka asked me. I smiled and thought about it.
“I don’t really know. I am not really hungry right now. My stomach is upset.” I said truthfully. She looked at me worried.
“Really? Do you need to go see Recovery Girl?” She asked. I shook my head.
“No. It’s nothing to bad. I’ll probably just get some rice so I have something in my stomach.”
“Are you sure?” She was really worried. I stopped her and the others went on.
“I promise. If I start to feel worse I’ll go to Recovery Girl immediately.” I assured her. She relaxed, believing me.
“Are you okay girls?” Midoriya called out. We looked at them. They were stopped a few yards ahead of us. We nodded and walked to catch up.
“Are you alright, L/N?” Todoroki asked. “I heard you say that you had an upset stomach.” I could see the tiniest bit of concern in his stoic expression.
“Yes. It’s only a little thing.” I said, smiling. He nodded before glancing down for a second before looking forward again. He went forward and I looked down to see what he glanced down at. I saw nothing. I shrugged, following.
I stayed true to my word with Uraraka and got rice. Iida and I were waiting at the table for the rest to come back from the line. Todoroki sat down next to me while Uraraka and Midoriya sat across for us. I smiled at them being cutesy together.
“Is that all your eating, L/N?” Todoroki asked. I nodded. He stared at me with an expression I couldn’t read for a little longer before he turned back to his food.
Mindless chatter of training, course work, and other things swirled around the table. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Todoroki move his hand onto the table. The thought of holding his hand ran through my head. I took a breath trying to build the courage before taking the chance.
I place my hand on top of his and lightly gripped onto it. I held my breath waiting for him to return, but he never did. I let out a silent, shuddering breath. I took a sly glance at his face and saw no difference then normal in his expression. I bit the inside of my lip as I slowly pulled my hand away and into my lap. I gripped my hands together tightly.
What was I thinking? He’s not really a touchy person in the first place. Why would he want to hold hands? I chided myself. My stomach felt even worse now. I pushed my bowl back away from me when I caught onto Midoriya nearly hanging off of Todoroki. Maybe he just doesn’t want to do that with me…
“I’ll be back.” I said getting up. All three of them looked at me.
“Where are you going?” Uraraka asked.
“Recovery Girl.” I said quietly and walked off. I heard Uraraka call after me if I wanted her to go with me but I didn’t answer. As I exited the cafeteria. I felt tears run down my face. I went in the complete opposite direction of Recovery Girl.
3rd POV
Todoroki watched as Y/N walked away. You couldn’t see it on his face but he was extremely chiding himself. He basically froze and was internally panicking when Y/N had placed there hand on his. He only started to panic more when they pulled away and grew tense.
“What was that?” Midoriya asked after a few minutes of silence. Everyone at the table but the one was wondering the same thing.
“Well, they weren’t feeling well. Their stomach was upset so maybe it got worse?” Uraraka said more in a question then a statement. “They told me they would go to Recovery Girl if their stomach got worse.”
“It would be wise if one of us went to check on them.” Iida suggested.
“I’ll go.” Todoroki said without missing a beat, rising to his feet. He pushed in his chair.
“Excellent. It would be better if it was you anyway due to your relationship with L/N.” Todoroki only answered by nodding and walked off. He walked to Recovery Girl’s office. He walked in and paused when the only person he saw was Recovery Girl.
“Oh, Mr. Tododroki. Are you alright?”
“Yes, I’m fine. Has Y/N been here?” Todoroki asked. She thought for a second.
“No, they haven’t.” Todoroki’s eyes widened. He thanked her and walked out.
I didn’t pass her did I? She said she was going to Recovery Girl but… He stopped and thought about it. She probably went to the courtyard of the dorms. He took off running, not caring that lunch was going to be over soon. He ran without breaking his stride or stopping. He ran into the Heights Allience and straight through to the court yard. He finally stopped when he saw their figure sitting on the ground.
“L/N?” He called out. They tensed and looked over their shoulder. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine.” They said in a meek voice. He sighed and looked around before walking over and sitting in front of them.
“No you’re not. And I know it’s my fault.” Todoroki said.
Y/N’s POV
“No you’re not. And I know it’s my fault.” My gaze shot to his face. I saw only slight emotion his face. He took a big breath before looking up at me. Guilt and remorse were written on his face. “I am not good at showing emotions. I only recently learned that it was okay to show them. My damn father and his…”
He stopped taking another breath, closing his eyes in annoyance. I set a hand on his shoulder. He opened his eyes and gazed down at my hand. Slowly he reached up and grabbed my hand. He gripped it tight before bringing it up to lightly kiss it. My eyes widen.
“I’m sorry. I froze up when you tried to hold my hand. My mind went completely blank but I knew I wanted to hold yours too. He set his hand that was holding mine in his lap and laid his other on top of mine. “I don’t know what I made you think but whatever it was it wasn’t true. I promise.”
“Thank you.” I whispered. I set my other hand on top of ours.
“I wish I was as confident in our relationship as I am in my hero training.” He admitted. “I didn’t have the best role model for relationships.”
“I know.” I said. I reached up and held his cheek. “If you are unsure of anything or need to slow down or whatever, don’t be afraid to ask. I won’t be upset. I understand that this is all new to you. I was just…earlier, it went through my mind that you didn’t want to do this with me even when I know that this isn’t something you know.”
“I do want to do this. Especially with you. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t have asked you out on that first date.” He leant closer to look at me in the eyes. “I am ashamed of myself for making you feel this way.”
“Don’t be. I understand why you reacted that way. I just wish I remembered that in the moment.” I gripped onto his hand. I looked up and sighed. “We better get back to class. We’re probably going to get in trouble for being late.” He nodded. He pulled back and got up smoothly. He reached out for me. I grasped onto his hands and he pulled me up easily. I yelped a bit when I fell into his chest.
“Are you alright?” He asked, with a slightly blush on his cheeks. I nodded.
“Yes, I just forget how strong you are sometimes.” I admitted shyly. He chuckled, which I found out was my most favorite sound in the world.
“Come on. Time to go.” He said, pulling gently on one of my hands. I nodded and followed. After a few minutes of walking and getting back into the school building, he seemed to remember something. “Oh, how is your stomach?”
“Oh…” I was surprised, not only at the question but at the fact that the discomfort from earlier was gone. “Much better. I even realize the discomfort went away.”
“That’s good.” He said. “I hate seeing you unwell. How about after school, we got out to get something to eat? Anything you like, it’s on me.” He led me up the stairs and the classroom came into view.
“Alright. Sounds good to me.” I said. He brought my hand up to his lips again, kissing my knuckled ever so slightly and I noticed, a bit unsure. He looked at me, checking to see if it was okay. I gave him a smile and we got lost in each other’s eyes.
“Come on you two.” We jumped at the sound of Aizawa’s voice. We both looked to see the tired man in the doorway to the class. I blushed as Todoroki flushed a little. “You’re late but Uraraka, Iida, and problem child explained what happened. I guess you’re off the hook this time but don’t make a habit of it.”
“Yes sir.” We chorused as he disappeared in the room. I looked over at him with an amused smile. I covered my mouth and tried not to laugh. He smiled too before shaking his head and pulling me into the classroom.
Dr. Lecter Will See You Now
“It is. Do you have an eye for brands, Dr. Lecter?”
__
Tumblr media
She was spoiled. It was as simple as that. She had always had everything handed to her on a silver platter. She knew this, of course. She wasn’t exactly stupid. A little blind to reality maybe, but not stupid. Everyone tended to have a bit of an immediate judgement when it came to her. She was always well put together and never had any part of her that was out of place. She was determined to be at her best all the time, mainly because everyone expected her to be. She never really thought about how exhausting it could be.
Her parents had worked endlessly in their early years of marriage and careers to ensure that she’d have the most stress free life possible. They struck it big and were able to send their little girl to the finest schools possible to assure her success. She had lived a VERY comfortable life.
Still, she enjoyed being given anything she could ever want and/or dream of. She loved her lavish life. At least, until she was told that her time was up. Her parents had always told her that they would always take care of her until she was old enough to handle herself. She was 25 now and well past the age of being able to provide for herself. They weren’t cutting her off so to speak. They would just casually begin sending her less and less money until they were sure she was fine to make it on her own. So, they dropped the bombshell on her.
She was going to have to get a job.
She wasn’t angry or anything. She knew this day would come eventually. She just hated that it came so quickly. At first, it was hard for her to accept that she was finally going to have to become a working adult, but she kind of found it exciting once she began job searching.
But not just any job would do. She would rather be dead than work in a job that required real hard labor. She just wasn’t cut out (or used) to that sort of scene. God forbid that she break a nail while working. She ruled out waitressing, any kind of retail job, or anything that involved intense customer service. Her options were slimming down fast and she was getting discouraged. That’s when she found her golden ticket.
She was skimming through the paper one morning when she saw an ad saying that a psychiatrist in the Baltimore area was in need of a secretary. She wasn’t familiar with the name of the therapist...but he looked oddly familiar. In any event, she saw this as her chance at work. She dialed the number, set up a time for an interview, and she was well on her way.
Here’s a little secret. She didn’t actually expect to get the job. She thought that Dr. Lecter would be interested enough in her to give her a recommendation for another job opening, not actually hire her as his secretary. Which was why she was stunned when he basically hired her on the spot and told her that she would start the following morning. When she realized that this was actually happening, she knew she had to put her absolute best presence forward. At least, until she was comfortable to relax into it. What he didn’t know, however, was just how much of an impact she was going to have on his life.
She arrived on time the next morning, ready to get to work. Her job was pretty simple. Answer the phone, check in his patients as they arrived, take messages for him when he was in a session, get him coffee when requested. The basic assistant kind of job. She sat behind the desk in the lobby of his office, acquainting herself with the new area. He exited his office a little after lunch to check on her. It had really been the first time he had actually interacted with her that day.
“Ms. [Y/L/N],” He said standing in front of the desk. She looked up at him respectfully, but a hint of a smirk on her face; “I presume you are settling in nicely?”
On top of being a privileged lady, she was a fast learner. All her years of extensive schooling had prepared her in ways she never expected. She was acing her first day, much to his surprise. He was extremely observant and he expected her to be...well...kind of an idiot.
“Yes, Dr. Lecter. Everything is just fine.” She replied confidently.
He hadn’t figured it out just yet, but he found her rather interesting. She wasn’t intimidated by him like most people were. As a matter of fact, that was the very reason he had been in need of a new secretary. The last one was so frightened of Hannibal that she took her talents elsewhere. It wasn’t like he had tried to kill her or anything. He had only done that to one of his former secretaries.
“Good. I was hoping you were adjusting well.” He responded, putting his hands in his pockets.
She smiled, returning to her work briefly before realizing he was still standing there. She raised a brow;
“Do you need something?” She asked sweetly.
He was looking at her outfit. A skirt, blouse, and blazer with a pair of heels. He noted that it was a quite expensive getup, something none of his previous assistants had worn.
“No, but I must ask. Is that Alexander McQueen you’re currently wearing?” He asked.
He knew the answer was yes, but he wanted to see if she actually knew herself. He was beginning to get an inkling that she had come from a more than rich lifestyle. Luckily, she did actually know what it was, but she didn’t always know the origins of her clothes. Everything had always been bought for her.
“It is. Do you have an eye for brands, Dr. Lecter?” She questioned.
He gave the slightest smile;
“I tend to, yes.” He answered simply.
He walked back into his office to prepare for his next appointment. She was a little disappointed that the conversation had ended so abruptly, but she knew that wouldn’t be the last time she ever spoke to him. This was a full time gig after all. She was over the moon with how things were going and it looked like she was going to be just fine.
Her first week went by without a hitch and the more conversations she had with Hannibal, the more bold she became. She didn’t know it yet, but she was finally having a say in her life. She was able to make decisions without something popping in to suggest her otherwise. She could be herself. However, her real self caused annoyance to come out of Dr. Lecter. But he was a patient man. He knew she just wanted to impress him. Even though he wouldn’t tell her yet, she was the best secretary he had been able to have in years. That still didn’t stop the twinge of irritation in his chest every time she said something unprofessional.
He entered the office around 7:00 AM, briskly walking by her desk like a man on a mission. She gave a fake offended gasp;
“Well, good morning, Dr. Lecter!” She called after him.
He stopped at his doorway. He would admit, that was rather rude. He turned to face her;
“Good morning, [Y/N].”
That’s when she realized why he had been in such a hurry to get into his office. Coffee had been spilled all down the front of his white collared shirt and his pants. She couldn’t help but laugh lightly;
“Oh, I see you’ve had a great start to the morning,” She said sarcastically; “Would you like me to go get you another outfit?” She asked reaching for her keys.
“No, that won’t be necessary. I keep a spare in my office closet.” He explained.
She paused for a second, then a devious grin spread on her face. He mentally slapped himself, knowing she had found humor in what he had just said.
“Do you now? Is it often that you have to change clothes while at work?” She asked, giving an implication that he wasn’t catching on to yet.
“It’s only for situations like this,” He said referring to his coffee stained outfit; “What are you inferring?”
She stood from her chair, leaning against the desk;
“Well, I’m sure you have to do something in between sessions.” She hinted.
What an insane accusation! He would never...pleasure himself while at work. And even if he did, he surely wouldn’t tell her about it. His posture and expression stayed unchanged, but he was getting agitated.
“I’m not sure I appreciate that statement, [Y/N].” He said honestly.
She was unfazed and pressed on;
“Come on, Dr. Lecter. I know you get bored in there. I’d probably do it too,” She admitted; “Honestly, if I looked like you? I know I would do it.” She flirted.
Now he was taken aback. That was quite the confession coming from his secretary. He was mentally noting to himself that this was probably why he was so intrigued by her. She wasn’t like his previous secretaries in the sense that she wasn’t afraid to say anything to his face. She was extremely honest and forward with her thoughts. He found that refreshing in a way.
“I’m flattered that you think that of me.” He accepted the compliment.
She shrugged, running a hand through her hair;
“I’m just saying.” She replied, sitting back down at her desk.
He pondered her words. Surely, there wasn’t anything wrong with being attracted to his secretary...or anything wrong with his secretary being attracted to him. He was still at his door, deep in thought. She noted the time was now 7:15, and he had his first patient at 7:30.
“Dr. Lecter,” She said snapping him out of his daze; “Paula Wallace’s appointment is in fifteen minutes.”
He nodded, getting back to work;
“Right. Of course.”
He retreated into his office finally to change into a new shirt and pants. A fresh thought entered his mind as he finished buttoning his shirt;
Maybe this new secretary was the best thing that had ever happened to him.
Wish you were gay
I think this week I’m going back to my writing schedule and if everything works out right we’ll have more content - yay -.
I’ve been wondering: would you guys like to know me, like how I look like, some of my favorite things, etc?
Anyway, hope you like this!
Word Count: 1.3k
Warnings: angst with no happy ending
Pairing: Adam Sackler x Reader
Tumblr media
A wildfire is the best analogy you can possibly use for whenever you are near Adam, the fire starts in your belly and before you can do anything to stop it, it has gone everywhere, passion taking over you and clouding your better judgment. He had you completely under his spell, but he didn’t seem to care or notice it.
The two of you met in a party and even though you weren’t a believer of love at first sight at the time, after a look to the gorgeous stupidly tall man, you were madly in love. You gathered some courage you didn’t even know you had and went for it, before you knew it, you were in his bed while he pounded the life off of you. You tried to create a romantic relationship with him and despite the connection and chemistry the two of you had, it never happened since Sackler started to date Hannah not too long after that night. All could do was trying to be happy being just friends.
Then Adam and Hannah broke up, it was pretty bad, not only on his feelings since he broke a leg too. The night it happened, he called you and in instants you were in the hospital. You were also there during the healing process, constantly at his place making sure that all his necessities were taken care of while working your ass off in your architecture projects, you held him when he cried, you heard him talk about his ex for hours and never complained, you just wanted to make him feel okay.
When his leg got better, Sackler dealt with his emotional pain in the only way he apparently knew: fucking, and by that you mean, fucking you. You actually thought that this was your chance, it wasn’t. He got back with Hannah and once again forgot about your existence, yet again, you were all alone to pick up the pieces he had made of you. No matter how much you helped and cared for the man, Adam was always looking the other way.
It kept happening, he and Hannah broke up again and again, and afterwards there was Jessa and they were also constantly fighting and ending things. Every single time you were there to deal with his feelings, to satisfy his physical needs, to make him laugh, because even though you knew you shouldn’t, even though you wished that you didn’t wanna stay in that place as consolation prize, you loved him. You could never say no to the sad face he appeared with in your door.
The price you paid for it was too big, your confidence was gone, you were often crying thinking about him and the next time he would show up to use you, after all, he ignored all the times you suggested going out to do anything saying he was too busy, but he would call you back - he never did -.
You were so close to your breaking point, you couldn’t take it anymore, you knew what you had to do, no matter how hard it would be.
The sound of a fist colliding heavily against the wood of your old apartment’s door made you get out of your trance, a movie you had seen a million times was on your tv, but your mind was elsewhere. You got up shouting a ‘Just a sec’ as you turn the television off, it was Sunday meaning it was your oficial do-nothing day, which would be completely ruined even though you didn’t know it yet.
As the door opens, a tall figure is revealed, his brown eyes red and puffy, his strong hands in fists and his hair and clothes in a complete mess, next to him rested a small black bag. You already knew what that meant, he had broken up with Jessa for the hundredth time and now he was ready to be taken care of. Before you could do or say anything, he got in and sat on your couch, hands supporting his head.
“I am fucking done with her, she’s a selfish motherfucker and I’m never going back to her again” he gritted through his teeth, it was all lies of course, in less than a month he would crawl back to the unstable relationship he had with the blonde.
Your instincts told you to hold him tight and listen to him, but this time things would be different, they had to be, there was no way you could keep doing this, no man was worth your self respect, the whole thing had gone too far. Before you noticed it, the words left your mouth “I can’t do this, Adam”, your voice broken just like your insides.
For the first time since he got to your place he looked at you, really looked as he replied “What do you mean?”
“I mean, you are not staying here, I can’t keep doing this” you clarified, trying to seem strong, tears already weighting on your bottom lash line, hands shaking and the feeling you were about to throw up clouding your senses.
“Doing what? Being a good friend? I can’t believe you are this fucking selfish, I just broke up” he said louder as his body left the couch, finger pointing to himself, face becoming red with anger, a feeling he had never directed to you until that moment.
Your first reaction was to laugh, his statement too absurd for you to actually process he said it, but then anger started to pump in your veins as well. “You are joking, right?  There’s no way you are telling me that I’m selfish. You have been using me as a cockwarmer and therapist ever since day one, you don’t give a fuck about how I feel and all I get back is a broken heart every fucking time you leave, asshole” you screamed, feeling powerful to finally stand your ground.
“That’s not true” he answered giving a step in your direction, which immediately caused you to take one back not wanting to be touched by him knowing it would disarm you. “I do care about you”.
“Yeah? Tell me something about me then, what’s my middle name, Sackler?” as the question left your lips, your eyes accessed him looking for any signs that he actually knew the answer to the question. However, the man disappointed you once again, a blank expression on his face as he mouth stood still, only silence filling the room. “That’s what I thought. I’m tired of this, I’m tired of being your consolation prize, I can’t even look at you without feeling like I’m dying inside, do you know how that feels like? Being treated like shit by the person you love? To hope that one day they will notice just how much you care and reciprocate that, but instead all you are to them is second best?” silence once again.
Tears were spilling freely down your face blurring the figure you had admired so much. “Just leave, please, go to a hotel, to another friend, I don’t care. Just get out of my house and don’t you ever come back” your voice broke the silence as you pointed to the door.
“Please, don’t do this” his hoarse voice pleaded as his hand tried to reach you, but you had made up your mind, no pretty face or sad eyes could make you go back.
“Then tell me you love me. Tell me I’m no consolation prize. Tell me you are not going back to her”.
This time you are not surprised as nothing came out of his mouth when he tried to speak although it hurted just as much as the last couple of times.Sobbing, you watched as Adam took the bag and gave you a final look before leaving the apartment.
This time you knew for sure: he would never love you back.
You stared at the painting on the wall, the mix of colours making you zone out. Taehyung sat beside you on the white couch, rubbing circles on the palm of your hand as you both patiently waited for your therapist. His office was pretty nice with all it's pastel colours and light toned furniture. You remembered when you once wanted to be a psychologist. It was a teen fantasy of yours after you had seen 'The Silence Of The Lambs'. Overtime you grew out of it, figuring that you had too many problems to deal with rather than helping others fix theirs and soon, you found solace in tubes of paint and the smell of new canvases.
The door opened with a subtle click, your head turning around to see your doctor, Kim Namjoon, entering the cabin.
Taehyung let go of your hand and stood up, shaking hands with Namjoon while you continued to sit nonchalantly. You didn't really wanna be here, anyway. Thankfully, Namjoon knew you too well. He was an acquaintance of yours in high school but he didn't know you enough to not be your therapist. He was the best one in town and happened to be Taehyung's good friend.
His glasses sat on the bridge of his nose, his brown hair was pushed back, revealing his forehead unlike all the other days that he let his hair cover it up. You tilted your head and rested your cheek against your palm, your elbow sitting on the arm of the couch. Namjoon settled down in his chair and opened his diary, writing down what you assumed was today's date and your name.
He finally looked up at you and smiled, his dimples digging into his cheek.
"Well, look who decided to show up after standing me up last week." Namjoon joked, making you crack a smile. Taehyung chuckled deeply, turning his head to look at you.
You shrugged and leaned forward, resting your elbows on your knees instead. "Safe to say, someone actually wanted to see me." You responded, earning Taehyung's disapproving scoff. It was his way of saying that he always wanted to see you but you decided to ignore it. What could you even say?
Namjoon shook his head, a breathy laugh leaving his mouth as he placed his pen on the book.
"Tell me, how have you been, Y/N? Hopefully, you have been taking your medicines on time." He stated, looking at you with bright eyes. This was definitely a therapist thing. They couldn't really be sad in front of a depressed person right?
"Of course-"
"Liar. Now I know why Nan wanted me to come."
You tsked when Taehyung interrupted, your eyes rolling in annoyance. Namjoon tilted his head at Taehyung, nodding at him as a sign to continue. Taehyung glanced at me before looking back at his friend.
"I saw the entire bottle sitting untouched in her house." Taehyung confessed, making you sigh and close your eyes. You pinched the bridge of your nose, feeling both their eyes on you.
"I told you last time. I can't take those pills, they make me sleepy and I'd rather stay awake." You snapped, clenching your fists and looking at Namjoon with a firm gaze that said you wouldn't change your decision.
Namjoon pursed his lips, already expecting this. Even after having talked about this a million times, you weren't willing to give the medicine a chance.
"Why would you rather stay awake, Y/N?" He asked, rubbing his chin with his fingers. Your eyes wandered towards Taehyung, your breathing staggering when he gave you a comforting nod. You gulped, looking at the small painting that you had been admiring since you stepped foot in the office.
"Nightmares. Bad ones that make it seem so real, I-I don't wanna sleep. I think I've started to have those sleep episodes again." You answered as honestly as you could. This was hard for you. Very hard. Just as you thought you were getting better, everything seemed to be relapsing.
Taehyung's eyebrows furrowed. Not in confusion. Not in surprise. But with concern. He always wondered why you painted at night and slept in the morning. Now he knew that you worked so hard just to tire yourself out so that exhaustion could take over. Because you wouldn't sleep willingly at all.
It was such a shame he didn't figure this out. He just wanted to help you. He really wished you'd let him help you.
"Do you remember any of those dreams?" Asked Namjoon, writing down something in his notebook. Your hand found Taehyung's, begging for him to hold it firmly and tell you it's okay. You had specifically requested for someone to be with you during therapy, afraid that you'd spiral out of control if Taehyung or nan weren't with you.
You tried to recall any nightmares that you had recently, your mind only gathering bits and pieces. You shook your head. "It's all a blur. I just remember being in that dark house and seeing bloody ropes everywhere." You replied, sighing when Taehyung squeezed your hand. You could feel your heartbeat quickening, the fear finding home in you again. And as much as you wanted to just get over it, you knew this session was far from over.
Namjoon hummed, gliding his pen across the paper before closing the book and looking at you with hesitant eyes. You could feel your hands become clammy, your thoughts catching onto his. He was gonna say something you didn't wanna hear.
"I suggest we try PE once again."
You immediately shook your head, sitting up straighter and mumbling 'no' again and again. You yanked your hand away from Taehyung, running your fingers through your hair. Namjoon placed the notebook beside him and leaned towards you with his arms stretched forward with caution.
"Y/N, just listen to me. We need to know where you stand in this situation and Prolonged Exposure is the best way to do it." He prompted, earning another firm NO from you. Taehyung decided to step in, his head turning towards Namjoon as he gave him a knowing look. Namjoon nodded in response and stood up, leaving the room without any noise. Even though this should be embarrassing for him, he didn't think much of it. Kim Taehyung was a rock for you besides Nan. At times when Namjoon had failed to convince you, Taehyung had done it. And Namjoon was sure Taehyung would do it now too.
You felt Taehyung's hands on your cheeks as he turned your face towards him. Your eyes were already teary at the thought of reliving that painful memory. Sort of reliving.
You placed your hands on Taehyung's, not paying attention to his words at all.
"Tae, listen to me, I can't do this. I don't- I don't wanna do this, tell him..-"
"Baby, hush. Look at me…"
You stopped talking, your lips quivering as you listened to his attempt at comforting you.
"Breathe. Just breathe."
You swallowed thickly, focusing your attention on your breathing. You closed your eyes and took in deep breaths, feeling the way your heart calmed down.
"Y/N. Tell me. Don't you wanna stop worrying about all this?"
You pursed your lips, not being able to answer him. You didn't need to, anyway. Because who would say no to that question? Certainly not you.
"Don't you wanna just...live?" You looked away from his brown eyes, his hands still firmly cupping your cheeks. After a second of silence, you nodded. Taehyung smiled and brushed your hair away from your forehead.
"Do this. Not for me. Not for Nan but for yourself. Because you wanna live." He said, pulling his hands away and standing up. As much as you wanted to argue, you couldn't. He was right. Taehyung was always right.
"I'll let Namjoon know." Taehyung announced, taking a step forward towards outside the room when your hand held his wrist. You were still hesitant and unprepared. Could you even come out alive?
It's just a recording, you told yourself.
Taehyung sighed and crouched down to your eye level, bringing your hand up to his lips. He softly kissed your fingers before smiling at you.
"I swear on my life, Y/N. You'll be fine." He assured you, your hand finally letting go of his wrist. You watched him leave, the back of his blue shirt disappearing behind the black door.
You closed your eyes and inhaled deeply, nodding to yourself as an indication that you were ready.
Namjoon looked at you, his fingers hovering over the play button on the small black recording device. You knew all about the process of prolonged exposure therapy.
You were gonna be made to listen to a recording from the time when you had narrated the whole incident to Namjoon for the first time. The last time you did this, you were screaming after you heard yourself utter four sentences. It was painful, really. And you never wanted to go through it again but you understood that this was important for you.
You glanced at the door once, your heart sinking on the realisation that Taehyung wasn't gonna be here to get you through this. This was a one to one session and Taehyung wasn't allowed inside with you.
You sighed and gave Namjoon a small nod, clenching your fists and leaning back on the plush couch. You heard a faint click before a buzz echoed through the silence of the room.
"It's 11:02 AM and I am at my third session with Y/N Y/L/N."
You huffed, closing your eyes immediately to prevent any further panic. Your heart was slowly picking up its pace. It wasn't full on pounding yet so that was a good sign.
"Y/N, tell me everything from the start. What happened on the evening of 31st December 2014?"
You squirmed in your seat, letting out shaky breaths as memories from that day came back to you.
"Well...I was walking back home from a party that I really wanted to attend. Taehyung had offered to drop me off but I didn't want him to leave the party because of me so I turned him down."
You kept mumbling to yourself that you were okay. Despite the goosebumps rising on your skin, you told yourself that you were okay. Just a little longer and you'd be out soon.
"It was quiet on the streets and my phone was dead. I couldn't call my dad because of it and I had to reach home soon. It was time for my curfew so I decided to take a shortcut."
A soft whimper left your mouth, your fingers fisting around the fabric of your t-shirt. Namjoon's eyes were fixed on you, taking in your body language throughout and drawing conclusions about your mental health. Your eyes were becoming warm, the tears making themselves visible.
"It was a dark alleyway and we were always told to avoid it, considering the number of girls who had been abducted from there. But I didn't have a choice. Dad would have killed me if I came home even a minute late."
You heard the crack in your voice, reminding you how much you had struggled to get the story out. The images of that night began to reopen in your mind, sending your heart into a spiral.
"I walked as fast as I could until I was almost at the end. I saw my house in the distance and that's when I began running. But it wasn't because I was late. It was because I could hear another set of footsteps behind me."
You gasped, shooting your eyes open when you recalled the next moment. Your lungs burned and tears streamed down your cheek.
"Y/N. No one is here to hurt you now. Just a little longer. You're doing great." Namjoon assured, his voice somewhat offering you peace.
"I was about to scream when a hand clamped down on my mouth. After that, I don't remember anything until I woke up in a dark room-"
"No...Stop it! Not...just stop it right now!" You yelled, your voice shaking as you clawed at your ears. Namjoon immediately pushed the stop button, the door swinging open to reveal a panicked Taehyung. You buried your face in your hands, your ragged breathing filling the room. Taehyung rushed to you, his hands rubbing your back as he sat down beside you.
You forced yourself to look up, your hands shakily reaching out to Taehyung's as you let him hug you. His scent had you calming down, your heart slowly falling back to it's rhythm.
"You did amazing, Y/N. Last time, you didn't even do half of where you reached today." Namjoon praised, showing you his dimpled smile. Your head rested on Taehyung's chest and you smiled weakly at Namjoon.
You wiped away your tears and sniffled, watching as your doctor sat in his chair and began writing something on a notepad.
"I'm changing your meds. There are three pills this time. You need to take them once daily. Don't forget them at all. And yes, these are to be taken with water, not alcohol." Namjoon stated firmly, giving you a small glare as you hide your face in Taehyung's chest. As if you were gonna listen to him.
The ride home was quiet, seeing as you spent your entire time recalling your therapy session. You somehow got through it for the day. But what were you gonna do next week?
You turned your eyes to Taehyung who was focused on driving the car. His jaw clenched occasionally, his tongue wetting his lips from time to time. It was a shame that a man like him was here next to you.
Taehyung was everything good whereas you were everything bad. You were broken beyond repair, hopeless, heartless and selfish. There were so many ways to describe you but you didn't have the motivation to put yourself down.
The car came to a halt and you weakly pushed open the door to get out. You sighed, squinting in the sunlight on seeing your house. The big brick mansion stood out like a sore thumb in the middle of the green expanse of the countryside. Your house wasn't that far from the city but it was a good 45 minutes drive.
You followed Taehyung inside your house, your feet automatically taking you to your bedroom as Taehyung engaged in a conversation with Nan. You were pretty sure it was gonna be about your little incident today. You rolled your eyes, trudging towards your closet. You dug through your clothes, trying to choose the comfiest outfit you owned before settling for an old but big t-shirt with baggy shorts. You turned around after tossing the clothes on your shoulder, your eyes meeting the eyes of the man in your painting.
He looked so at peace, it made you envious. Maybe you should have been a painting too. You wouldn't have to worry about life's problems at all.
"You're lucky, you know. All you have to do is sit there while I have to go through fits of existential crisis every day." You complained, throwing him a pointed look before heading to the bathroom.
The hot water was a relief for your aching muscles. You could feel all your worries being washed away as the water cascaded down your body. You spent twenty minutes cleaning yourself up. You loved taking showers but today was just not your day. You just wanted to lay around all day with nothing to think about.
What a treat that would be!
Wrapping the fluffy towel around your body, you stepped out of the stall and stood in front of the mirror after opening the door to your bathroom. The steam had fogged up the mirror, your hand wiping it away to slowly unravel your reflection. But it wasn't just you anymore.
Your eyes widened when they met his, a gasp following soon after.
Park Jimin stood behind you with a smirk on his plump lips and a devious look in his eyes.
