If I remember correctly, Pearl didn't even include the taming of Billy in her first episode. She always gets a pet of some kind in each of these series and Billy is another new companion and yet. She named him with the same kind of inflection as Tilly, in a series where she has scott and cleo on her team again, and yet. She's afraid for him, she hasn't even brought him to the new base yet because it's more dangerous there. It's more dangerous with her. "Haven't you accepted nothing in this series stays alive?" She says about Joel's car. She knows that he's impermanent too.

Okay SO the T4W (Time Doesn't Care For Waltzes/Time for Waltzes) AU STARTS 1000 years in the past, before Narinder got chained down. Both Narinder and Shamura start getting split-up prophetic visions. While Shamura gets dreams about The Lamb, Narinder learns about the betrayal(s). In the middle of it all, Leshy checks on Narinder during one of his less than stellar lucid dream sessions without knowing what's up and in the end, it's just Leshy, the youngest, that gets the worst for wear. It changes things in the long term. Or maybe it's just the start.

It takes J a solid week to realize that feeling fluttery and giddy every time Thad talks to her is not some virus she accidentally downloaded

V spent that week suggesting different antiviruses while laughing and texting Lizzy whenever J looked away

J figured it out in the middle of the night, flew to Uzi(the only worker drone she vaguely knows)‘s house and demanded that Uzi teach her sports.

Uzi frowned. “A what now?”

“You know, a–“ J broke off. “N-nevermind.” She recognized the word, but the matching definition was just…gone. Weird. But also, there were much more significant issues that took precedence right now. Like Thad. And whatever football was.

Uzi stared at J for a moment, tugging the door a little closer to herself. “…right, I’m going to go now–“

“Wait!” J stuck her arm in the doorframe, claws suddenly poking out and leaving tiny dents in the wall.

Uzi let go of the door handle.

“Um,” J said, suddenly remembering that; A: she wasn’t meant to murder people; B: murdering people makes it difficult to ask them questions; and C: oh robo-god she had to ask the stupid emo toaster for help.

Uzi stared at her. “I’m too tired for you.”

“Teachmesports!”

Uzi stared at J for a moment, her screen buffering a little. “…what?”

J coughed. “I, um, I need you, to, teach me about sports?”

Uzi’s eyes widened, and she mouthed a silent oh. “This is about Thad, isn’t it.” Not even a note of questioning in her voice. Rude.

This conversation absolutely happened after the events of the pilot:

Lizzy: okay but the murder bots are hot tho Thad: oh absolutely

Also, Thad and Lizzy had an argument about who was hotter, J or V, so they went to find Uzi. Uzi made a noise, muttered something about N and then ran away

J, V and N regularly run into each other while sneaking into the bunker for Non Suspicious Reasons, and make up wildly elaborate and confusing excuses for why they’re flying towards the bunker

N believes all of them, because he is a dumbass and I want to throw him at a wall /affectionate

J and V are aware of the lying, they just pointedly pretend they dont so they’re not questioned on their own fronts.

Thad, Lizzy and Uzi have a similar issue, even more often, because there’s only one way out of the bunker. Lizzy says she doesn’t have to explain herself to them and leaves, Uzi runs away and yells Bite Me a lot, Thad is just confused

Avery do you think ghost would show his face to his partner? Ive seen many diffrent opinions on this and tbh i think he would. I hc him wanting to seperate his private life with his work so he probably doesn’t want his S/O anywhere near his gear or mask situation…u know what i mean? But idk i might be wrong

You and me both anon!! I'm with you, I believe the mask is almost a persona of sorts, it's how there is a separation between "Ghost" and Simon Riley, likely a coping mechanism for all Simon's gone through. But I also think he wears masks as an extra precaution for anonymity and privacy (yeah his file doesn't have his face but better safe than sorry, eh?). It's why at the end of MWII Simon is still wearing a mask with the 141 at a bar (yes they were discussing business but it definitely seemed like celebratory drinks to me)

THAT BEING SAID if Simon finally has a long term partner, he will definitely take off his mask when they're alone. It's a symbol of trust when he reveals his face to you, a level of intimacy that he doesn't even show many of his colleagues (and they have to entrust their lives to each other on the daily).

I'm just torn on how he'll go about it. On one hand, he could entirely separate his personal/dating life, when you first meet you know what he looks like although he may wear the occasional plain face mask in public. Even when you learn he's a soldier, you've never heard of this "Ghost" before and you never will, it's a part of him Simon would rather take to the grave. You know next to nothing about his military life, you'll likely never meet the rest of the task force despite how great they seem - you may hear allegories about them but Simon just needs that separation. You can only pick up pieces from when he wakes up in the middle of the night, drenched in sweat and only you can comfort him, deciphering his broken mumbles all the while.

On the other hand, Simon's military life bleeds over everything, Ghost creates a suffocating blanket over his life that Simon can't fully pry off - even among civilians his face masks carry the motif of a skull. It becomes all he knows, all he can talk about. On the first date, the only experiences he can give is from his past missions. Even when you get closer, Ghost's irrationally terrified that showing his face will put a target on your back. You could do everything together, have promise rings, move in together, open a joint bank account and Ghost still won't show his face.

It'll take a lot of time, but you can teach Ghost of a life beyond the violence that consumed his past. That the whimsy and vulnerability of being an average human comes with benefits that he's never considered before. And that will be the moment, on a quiet night, he'll finally take off his mask and you can't help but smile. Simon's back.
