Oh look more headcanons
Who'd have guessed
Not me for sure
Okay sorry I'll shut up.
I'm highly music-driven and have been for many many years of my life.
And I'm presently unreasonably obsessed with The Fratellis after suddenly remembering they exist after like fifteen years of not hearing a single one of their songs. Don't ask me, it just happened a couple months ago and I decided not to question it.
So this is really stupidly niche of me, but these are their songs/lyrics that I associate with the Best Boys™, in a Character X Reader sense. The songs that are typically playing halfway on repeat when I'm writing any of them lately.
The song-links go to Spotify. It's not necessary to listen to them, the lyrics here are the main catalyst, but if you want to listen I'm not going to complain.
no but please I hope you like the music that I like I have no one to talk to about it and as a half-assed musician it's literally killing me and
Anywho.
Zoro
Living in the Dark
Tumblr media
I was nothing less than torn, crying out to be reborn
Come back, baby, you could make me happy,
Maybe you could prove me wrong
You're the only one who could ever save me,
Maybe you could prove me wrong
I've been living in the dark down here too long
The song itself is far more upbeat than I'd generally associate with Zoro, but the lyrics speak to me on his behalf. The upbeat tempo is the equivalent of what you do to his heart when you're near him; it's strange and unfamiliar, but it's nice. He's iffy about being close with anyone, and he won't admit it out loud but he wants to be.
He's been alone for years, for damned near all of his life, and you're like the light at the end of that tunnel. He might try to push you away or be aloof and impersonal at first because the thought of being vulnerable frightens him a little, but he wants to be proven wrong. He wants to let you in, and he's willing to try.
Sanji
Sugartown
Tumblr media
I get the strangest sense we were lovers past-tense
Like a dog in heat I just can't be indiscreet
And when I see you there, I whisper my prayer, so sweet
I'm getting shakey on my feet, I'm incomplete
And if you just can't do me right
Then, honey, please, do me wrong
I'll be your one man band, I'll be at your command
Just say the word and I'll be your Renaissance man
This entire damned song is the anthem of Sanji. It's like a 1950's bop, the type of song that you can't help but smile at. It's sweet and cute and pining, just like our favorite chef. He's just utterly obsessed and hoplessly devoted to you and every single thing you do. He can't keep his eyes or his mind off of you at any given time.
Just the sight of you entering the room takes his breath away, puts stars in his eyes. He would do or give absolutely anything to have you and to keep you forever, and he's going to make sure you know it.
Shanks
Babydoll
Tumblr media
Babydoll, do you believe they'll catch you when you fall?
And when morning comes, the sun is gonna shine
Don't forget, your minor keys your half-lit cigarette
'Cause when morning comes, I know that you'll be mine
So let me in
I'm ready to beg and to sing for my sins
Not leave it to chance and sweet coincidence
I don't know. The soft yet slightly playful tone of the song in general just screams Shanks to me for no reason I can completely put in words. This particular portion of the lyrics is what I associate most with him.
He knows he wants you, and he wants to make sure you know it. Not to beat around the bush about it, but not pressure you either. Just make sure you know how much he cares about you and be as gentle and sweet as possible to prove it...and he knows it's going to work, and that you're already his whether you know it or not. But jfc also imagine that goddamned voice of his calling you babydoll please excuse me I need to go touch grass now
Mihawk
Medusa In Chains
Tumblr media
I'm not your miracle man, I'm not your spirit guide
Before this whole thing began I had some sense of pride
Just one more night with your lips, your company is hard to eclipse
Weak-kneed, yes indeed, guardanteed, make my heart bleed
Give me a reason to breathe, don't let my sun go down
I'll make you stand and recieve, I'll be your sacred ground
Be my Medusa in chains, petrified
Only your beauty remains
The entire song. The ENTIRE SONG screams Mihawk to me. Slow-burn and seductive from start to finish. I get the same exact chills from this song that I get when he delivers that "Magnificent" line.
Lyrically relevant too. Falling for you in spite of his pride (and he has a LOT of pride to get past). You're like nothing he has ever experienced and he's utterly and hopelessly addicted to you. As much as he wants to fight it, he can't. In the same breath that he's trying to push you away and retain some grip on himself he's also pulling you back for more. He hardly even knows who he is anymore when you're near.

💫✨ people I’d like to get to know better ✨💫
thanks for the tag @caffernnn !!
last song i listened to: So I'm actually going to plug three songs that I've been absolutely obsessed with over the past weekend and have been listening on repeat as a result, all by the same artist -- Lydia the Bard, over on YouTube.
Lydia makes villain songs for the Disney princesses (among other Disney female characters). Her first handful were just lower pitched versions of their songs (or songs from their movies), but as she progressed she started changing lyrics, and now she's really grown and is making the songs more and more unique, culminating in finally creating a wholly unique villain song for Tinkerbell, which just came out and is my favorite.
"Fall Little Wendy Bird Fall" recontextualizes Tinkerbell's animosity toward Wendy. In this version, Tinkerbell and the other fairies of Pixie Hollow brought Peter Pan and the other Lost Boys there because, due to the nature of fairies' existence depending on humans believing in them, fairies were dying all around them as humans grew up and stopped believing. So the only way to secure their own lives was to make sure their humans never grew up. But Wendy threatens that by making Peter and the others long for human lives. Therefore, Tinkerbell sees her as a threat who must be taken out to save her own and her friends' lives. Not only does this song make Tinkerbell a far more compelling character, but the vocal performance is stunning, and the animatic that goes with it is amazing as well. Literally obsessed.
The other two I'm obsessed with are Meg's (where Hercules betrayed her as well & she kills Hades & takes his power) and Isabela's (where Mirabel doesn't get to her in time, and her resentment over the arranged marriage drives her to snap). Meg's is a bop and has a killer line in "In time they'll say I was cruel 'cause I cared", and I'm sorely tempted to use her final look at the end of the animatic as my Halloween costume this year. Meanwhile, Isabela's is also killer musically of course, and has equally fire lines like, "What could you possibly expect was gonna happen when you made me? / Tend to a plant with poison and expect a flower, are you crazy?" They're both just so good.
favorite color: Purple! Specifically cool shades, and especially cool shades that are more pastel, mixed with grey. I also like blues and greens that are faded like that, too.
currently watching: A little while ago I had started rewatching Sabrina the Teenage Witch since I hadn't watched it since middle school, but once I got to season four it got . . . bad . . . and it has continued to be bad . . . so I've kind of stopped watching lmao. I've lately been rewatching Jenny Nicholson's videos, but I finished that, so now I've gone back to rewatching Jenna Marbles videos. Oh, and I really love this series on YouTube called Bistro Huddy! It's hilarious, and Drew (the guy who portrays all the characters) is fantastic, he really melts into the roles so you almost forget it's one guy doing all of them. Highly recommend checking it out.
spicy/savory/sweet: Honestly depends on my mood, but I do have a strong sweet tooth, so honestly it's hard to go wrong by offering me ice cream or a cookie or something similar.
relationship status: Currently dating the lovely @skimmingthesurfaces 💜 She's actually going to be here this weekend for my birthday! (My birthday is on Tuesday, so I'm very blessed to have her with me for the whole weekend.)
current obsession(s): Aside from the songs mentioned above, I've been really thinking about one OC in particular of mine, and her story / novel . . . she's a character that I first created when I was about 13 or so, and has gone through a lot of development since then, but I've been fleshing out a lot more of her story and how she fits into this new original world I've created (since she was originally created for a Legend of Zelda role play, albeit even back then she came from a country outside of Hyrule). I really love and cherish her a lot, even though most other characters think she fulfills the "girl who is stupid" role in the adventuring party, and on some level she also believes this about herself, and to be fair she's not academically gifted at all, but to be even more fair the school and in fact overall society she was raised in was extraordinarily fucked up and no one actually tried to teach her in a way that would help her learn and in fact learning disabilities were seen as personal failings and --
Ahem. Anyway. I have long since described her as "pure of heart, dumb of ass," and in many ways she is, but for the second half, she's not in the way most everyone around her growing up assumed she was (including herself), or like, even if she is it wasn't 100% her fault (like yeah she slept in class and that was on her, but also she wasn't going to learn whether she was awake or not because her teachers were not going to be able to teach her the material because it was a One Size Fits All approach to teaching even when it really wasn't -- and that's only scratching the surface of the problems in her school / culture, it's a huge systemic thing). But yeah I've just been thinking about her a lot. Karin's my girl and I love her lots.

four albums I've been listening to recently, thanks @katierosefun for the tag!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
1—blue by joni mitchell
okay I hadn't listened to this one in forever bc it isn't on Spotify anymore, but recently I've gone back to playing it on YouTube bc this is probably my favorite album ever. Like, obviously the better-known faves are River and A Case of You, but then there's my absolute favorite Little Green and The Last Time I Saw Richard, which are just—both a gut punch in different ways. This was one of the first albums I ever really loved, and it just somehow means something different to me in every phase of life.
2—aurora by daisy jones & the six, who are a fictional band but hey that counts right? Right.
I just finished the series like,,,,,twenty minutes ago, and wow okay—these are some BOPS. I've been listening to Let Me Down Easy on repeat, and the seamless key change at the end??? Obsessed
3—are you happy now? By Jensen McRae
I wish I could listen to this album for the first time again, bc WHAT an experience. Also, Adam's Ribs is one of my favorite songs to sing/play, even tho no one can do it as well as the original.
4—five seconds flat by Lizzie McAlpine
I listened to this album when it first came out, became obsessed with like 5 of them and completely forgot about the rest! And then recently I was like huh, what are the rest of the songs on this album like? And they're lovely, so now I've been going back to the ones I somehow skipped before, like all my ghosts and firearm, which are both gutting and comforting at the same time.
Tagging some people I miss and hope are doing well! @giggles-and-freckles @pandora15 @tessiete

I need to talk about Bullet Train.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s been more than a month since I first watched this movie and I’m literally obsessed with it. All in all, I saw it three times and it's the first time I've watched one movie so many times in the cinema.
So from like a month now I am thinking about Bullet Train and this characters, but so far I haven't put my thoughts on ‘paper’. And this is really typical of me – I find a topic that completely preoccupies my head, but then I never do anything with it ‘creatively’ – not even write my thoughts down. So maybe this will be good moment to start.
So I just wanted to list all the things, moments and scenes that are memorable to me and that I really like and I thought a lot about c:
THE SOUNDTRACK IS SO GOOD.
The way Brad Pitt / Ladybug says 'Dude, I don’t even know you' when he’s fighting with The Wolf – chef’s kiss.
In general I really love Brad Pitt’s acting in this movie – he’s like a chaotic cinnamon roll and I adore his – quote – ‘bad luck on acid’.
And the way he answers the Elder when he’s trying to tell him a story always makes me smile.
The scene with young White Death is SO COOL – music, colours, camera work – everything is perfect. A great introduction to the character, after which we know it's better not to mess with him. And moment with the gun is so badass.
I was so happy when I saw Logan Lerman on the screen, because I didn’t know he was in this movie, but obviously he had to die in first 15 minutes.
I really like the scenes with The Wolf and the fact that his flashback looks like a music video, which fits perfectly because he is played by Bad Bunny. And La Despedida is a bop.
Tangerine’s moustache. That’s it.
I’m absolutely obsessed with Tangerine. Like, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is already so good looking, but in this movie it’s just a different level. His accent is gorgeous and I could listen to him for hours (and him saying ‘important’ on repeat). The suit, the hair, his facial expressions, everything is perfect. And he just gets more and more sexy with every scene, Lord have mercy.
But most importantly – his relationship with Lemon. This is the type of relationship that I really adore in fiction – two people who have a lot of love for each other but the way they communicate is just arguing and fighting. Every scene with them is comedic gold. And right after their first scene you know you’re gonna love them.
I know Tangerine and Lemon are paid assassins, but in my head they are innocent your honor.
I find the quick flashback scene in Bolivia really interesting, because when we look at their faces we see that they are a bit traumatised by what they are doing. As if this was too much even for them, but now they probably try not to think about what they felt back then. However, they definitely put Bolivia in the first place in their CV, because – let’s be honest – this was fucked up, but pretty impressive.
Fight scenes are choreographed so well and camera work is brilliant. How dynamic the scenes are, despite the small space in which they take place, is impressive, and the fact that everything at hand can be a weapon is a great idea. My favourite one is definitely Tangerine & Ladybug one, but I genuinely love them all.
Channing Tatum’s comment about Tangerine’s walk – same. Same.
The fact that Tangerine was able to break the glass of this train is ridiculous but I absolutely love it, plus he looks so hot when he’s angry.
I’m not even gonna talk about the fact that anyone survived the crash of the train.
And not to be dramatic but I hate to even think about what happened with Tangerine’s body after the crash.
The fact that the same car with tangerines that Lemon stops at the end of the movie is the same car that almost hits Ladybug is just cruel.
Lemon’s one-liners are gold (and my favourite of them – 'That’s a lot of white deaths.')
I’m not gonna talk a lot about Tangerine’s death, but it was: devastating. However, I think it was even worse to see him heartbroken when he thought Lemon was dead.
Overall, Tangerine and Lemon’s scenes when they find out about their deaths were so beautifully played. You could feel their pain through the screen.
I love how story lines of all the characters are connected with each other and we are slowly getting the pieces of the puzzle to figure out what all these characters have in common - and that it is actually coming together as a cohesive whole.
When Ryan Reynolds appears on the screen – top tier. I was gagged when I first saw him.
Lemon saying to Ladybug that he found a new brother – please don’t joke about that, it’s too soon. Don’t do this to me.
I adore the amount of love White Death has for his wife (kinda sad that he didn't have enough for his children tho). But to do what he did for love? As Jake Peralta once said – ‘Cool motive, still murder’.
I really liked Joey King’s accent when she was speaking Russian.
And this is going to be the only thing that I’m gonna write about her, because even though the idea of her character is really cool, I’m not obsessed with her acting in this movie. I’m sorry.
The Elder is the mastermind here, let’s be real.
I also realized that apparently I am very fond of the theme of fate and destiny - because the level of adoration I have for this movie is a little bit similar to the love I have for the musical Notre Dame de Paris, in which this theme also appears, and it's my favourite thing of all time.
If I had to put the characters in order from the ones I like and care the most to least (keeping in mind that I like them all) it would be: Tangerine > Ladybug > Lemon > The Elder > White Death > The Wolf > Kimura > The Son > The Prince > The Hornet
In conclusion, if I had to describe it with one word it’s would be ‘fun’ and it’s definitely gonna be my comfort movie.
The end.
