Nancy x Ace and the lives we guard in 4x13
Ok, so we’re a few days post finale and I don’t know about you but I’m still feeling slightly feral over some bits of it, and I particularly wanted to spend some time breaking down the feuris scene, because it is UNHINGED and I am HERE FOR IT.
Once those flames come into being, Ace doesn’t take his eyes from her. Transfixed and terrified, and Nancy keeps looking to Ace for reassurance. When she starts the process of disentangling her soul from Tristan’s, Ace flinches and moves slightly towards her, because by this time his anger is all burned out and all he wants is to go to her, comfort her, shield her from the pain. And here she is throwing herself headlong into it again.
She falls to the ground, pain etched across her face, and for a moment Ace looks lost, like a child seeking a way out of the nightmare. But this is Nancy, his Nancy, and he immediately starts looking for a way through the flames, a way to pull her out, to get to her. Shifts to move closer to her almost without thinking - as though there’s an invisible string tying him to her and he can’t help but be tugged closer.
GIF Credit @loveyazy
He charges forward, determined, but is brought up short by the flames and the fear and her insistence that he shouldn’t, that she doesn’t want him to, that he can’t. All his fears and insecurities lined up like dominos against Nancy trying to sacrifice herself for those she loves. No idea how to proceed against this maelstrom of supernatural confusion, the rollercoaster of emotions as he’s been flung from innocence to grief to anger to feeling like he’s losing her and the forgiveness laced words as they try to find their way back. This is unlike anything they’ve faced before, and Ace is filled with such longing, such desperate regret, so many weeks of holding himself against the urge to reach out to Nancy and just hold her.
GIF Credit @loveyazy
But she’s being so very Nancy about it all, and it’s adding to the confusion. Shredded by the supernatural and just fighting to keep her voice steady to protect him, to tell him not what she needs but what she thinks he needs to hear. Loyal and fiercely protective to the last.
For a moment he is poised on the brink of uncertainty, tensed to spring, already waiting, one foot planted firm, the other pushed back ready to propel him forward. He’s halfway there already to rushing through the flames consequences be damned, but he still can’t let himself trust his gut completely. Can’t let himself believe that she truly needs him.
Her insistence that he not belying the pain and muddying the waters until he can’t tell whether she’s going to pull herself back to standing and come to him, tip herself through the flames and into his waiting arms so he can get them out. But then the feuris clenches tighter around her soul and he moves, can’t keep still against the pain lining her face, the little gasp, the agonised huff of her breath as she doubles over.
GIF Credit @loveyazy
That’s the moment he can’t stand it. The moment he decides to hell with it, his soul is worth nothing if he can’t save her. If he can’t do exactly what he was sent in here to do. He’s here to be a life guard, and he will guard her life to the end. The grimace as he sets his mouth, the tiny head shake of no, not today. The feuris can’t have her, not if he can help it. Not as he forges through the flames to her.
GIF Credit @loveyazy
Something breaks in Nancy then, her resolve to hold strong and keep Ace safe. She can’t pretend any longer that she is ok, that this will be fine - collapses in towards his waiting arms with a cry. And Ace is there to catch her - he’s always been there to catch her. When it mattered he’s been there waiting with a warm shoulder and a knowing soft look in his eyes that tells her he is hers and he will love her until his last breath - in this life or the next. He’s always been steady, always caught her when she’s fallen, always held her to account when she’s slipped. And for so long she’s tried to be strong enough not to need it - not to let on how much she needs it. But now, in this moment, she breaks. Folds in against him and lets him take some of the weight. As he cries out I’m not leaving you. And there are so many layers to that, of love and apologies and regret and the times he’s walked away and cut them both like a knife. The desperate hope and the fierce regret and the pain of being cursed to always be separate. But what’s the point in staying away if that’s just going to mean he loses her anyway? He’d rather have this, knowing he did all he could, that he was with her to the last, than live a long life filled with the regret and the echoes of her cry in his ears.
GIF Credit @loveyazy
You can see the way his face changes at the last moment, as the feuris grabs on tight not only to Nancy’s soul, but now his. The way his breath stutters out with the bone deep clench of it, the slow shredding of him into a thousand pieces as his hands spasm involuntarily on Nancy’s arms, pulling her in tighter against him. The pain taking root inside him in a way he couldn’t brace for. Becoming part of him until he can barely think around it. Knows he’s meant to be doing something, saving them somehow, but there’s nothing but the slice of his soul and Nancy crying out tucked in against him, and the shudder ripping through him until he feels like he might black out from the pain of it.
GIF Credit @loveyazy
His fingers spasm against her, and it’s like knives, like every dark thought he’s ever had washing over him in a tidal wave so dark he can’t remember what daylight looks like, what a breath of air feels like. It’s just agony cut deep into his chest and hollowing out all the places where he kept himself.
There’s nothing but his arms around Nancy and the way it feels like his dad shouting at him, at all his worst fears and inadequacies choking him, his worst moments pulled like taffy from his mind and smothered over him until he can’t breathe, can’t think, there is nothing but pain and the desperate fight not to lose himself entirely in it, to haul himself that little bit closer to Nancy to try and take some of the weight, to hold her steady, to keep her close, because what else can he do when she whimpers out another cry of pain and falls against him?
GIF Credit @loveyazy
For a moment he almost gives in, gives up, lets the pain wash through him and over him, drowning him until there’s nothing left but darkness. It would be so easy to give up, to lie down and let it take him, to forget himself and everything that makes him him. Because when he stepped through the flames he had no idea, his only thought was to get to Nancy, to get her out, to try and protect her. He never stopped to consider what having your soul ripped apart would feel like. How it would splinter his mind and stop his heart and try to claw every last bit of Ace from him whilst he stuttered for breath on the bluffs and felt Nancy go slack in his arms.
GIF Credit @loveyazy
And it’s that. That moment of Nancy, of her almost coming entirely undone that brings him back. Because it is Nancy, it’s always been Nancy, it will always be Nancy. He will never love another person the way he loves her. Never tie himself so firmly to another person, take root and say here, here is where I belong, here is my home. She’s been in the feuris so much longer than him, soul snipped in a thousand places until it feels as though she’s nothing more substantial than dust on the wind. And she’s so close to faltering, so close to not making it back if he doesn’t do something. She is his hope, she is his life raft, and he remembers with a searing clarity he had lost in the pain hazed moments before that he is her life guard and he will guard her life to the last. He reaches for Nannette, can’t think beyond the pain and the feel of her slipping away from him, and the cool metal against his fingertips.
GIF Credit @loveyazy
Nancy’s cries of torment have stopped when he finally blows the whistle. Unconscious against him, but she’s there, she’s real, and he’s got her, he’ll get her home, he promised, and he always keeps his promises. He floundered for a while there where the pain and fear swamped him and kept him living in the darkness - a half life, a pretend life, where he could go through the motions and tell himself a fairy story of his happiness and hope that one day it felt real. In that moment the fear is gone - he feels scooped out, hollow, unsure whether he can still exist in the razed landscape the feuris has left behind. But he pulls her close - Temperance can’t hurt them now, not after the pain of this, the shattered waste left behind. There is nothing but the feel of her in his arms and the metal between his lips and the shrill cry of the whistle to tell Bess to pull them out.
In the last moment before they’re free of the feuris, he moves to hold her properly, tuck her head in against his, his love for Nancy like a beacon, a lighthouse to guide him home - guide them home.

A Little Drabble: Finding A Way Home
Aka a very self-indulgent drabble that I am writing because I like to torment myself with pain--. This takes place in Ed's YGO Verse!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They had finally done it. After months of research, finally defeating their enemy in one all-or-nothing battle, the machine had been completed. Through a combination of efforts from Roy, Fuery, Kaiba, Diva, Atem and even Edward, they had finally managed to create a way back home. Yet there was one little detail that everyone had forgotten in their excitement.
As the machine turned on and Roy, Ed, Feury and Atem stood, side by side. Feury and Black Hayate were the first to say their goodbyes and disappear into the unknown, yet when it came time for Roy, Ed and Atem to say their goodbyes, the blond gave a gentle shake of his head. He had given away his right to go back home, that was the price of coming to this new world and though he truly wished he could, Ed stepped back to allow Roy and Atem to say farewell.
Yet when Roy stopped at the edge of the portal and looked back to beckon Ed along with him, the younger man offered a sad, apologetic smile and shook his head. Due to the rules of what he had given up, no matter how badly Ed wished he was able to, he could not follow. So there he stood, planting himself steadily by Atem's side and keeping his same, strong facade to mitigate any worry his adoptive father may have had. He offered a warm, bright smile before he spoke, even if it felt as though his heart was being torn from his chest the longer the seconds ticked by.
"It's okay, dad. Go home, everyone's waiting for you. Just promise me that you'll say hi to everyone for me, yeah?" He said, to which Roy gave a saddened nod and opened his arms, offering for Ed to hug him one final time before he forever disappeared back to a world Ed had once called home.
Ed gave no hesitation and rushed forward, throwing his arms around Roy's middle and hugging him tight, wanting to burn the feeling into his mind one last time. He could feel his resolve breaking in those arms that had grown to be such a safe and welcoming place, eyes closed tight.
"I'm gonna miss ya, Colonel. Thanks for bein' my dad, I'll never forget everything you've ever done for me." He managed out, finally letting go after a few more long moments. He stepped back, tears already welling within those familiarly soft golden eyes as he took his place back by Atem's side.
As Roy gave his final salute, returned by both of the young men who were being left behind, he finally turned and disappeared back to a world that both he and Ed had once called their own. And as they stood there in silence, only after he was gone did the tears finally begin to fall, though even then Edward stood still and silent as a statue, staring at the place his adopted father had once been.
#{we're not in central anymore;; ygo verse}#Drabble#Was in the mood for hardcore feels tonight apparently lol
【KHR AU】 XanLena ❤️💜🔥🪷
Nguyễn Selena (Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên) 💜🪷
Figured it's been a long time since I posted about my wife, Selena~
Nguyễn Selena is my KHR OC who is a Vietnamese non-binary assassin. Her Vietnamese name is Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên.
Her name, Selena, means "moon" 🌙
Her Vietnamese name, Liên, means "lotus flower" in Sino Viet 🪷
In my KHR AU, she joins the Varia as one of their members and lives at their headquarters with the rest of the core Varia members. My wife has NB flag colours~
My wife and her NB swag~ 💜🖤🤍💛
I mainly ship Selena with Xanxus.
In KHR, Xanxus is the leader of the Varia, an independent assassination squad under the Vongola mafia family. He was initially one of KHR's major antagonists.
Selena 💜🖤🤍💛🌙☁️🪷
English name: Nguyễn Selena (グエン・セリナ)
Vietnamese name: Nguyễn Nguyệt Vân Liên (阮月雲蓮)
Japanese alias name: Gen Suzuha (阮月雲蓮)
I resketched Selena's hair recently 💜
I resketched these quickly so it's not as refined but I'm still experimenting/trying to decide how I want Selena's hair to be drawn, whether I want to keep the curls in the back or not.
I feel like her ponytail is pretty iconic to her design. So if Selena got a TYL (10 Years Later) design, then I'd just add a bun on top of the ponytail.
Didn't redraw everything yet but just updated this for now
I redrew the bow and it has better lines but I prefer how pointy the shape of the OG bow was so I'll just combine the two eventually. I just wanted to get the new Selena down
Though both are nice! I just like how the shapes/silhouette of the hair are clearer now.
The XanLena chibis are pretty old doodles, so I'd like to redraw it sometime, but I still think it's cute ^^
My friend Feuri told me he likes how the softer upturned eyes of the OG Selena has a softer expression, so I'll keep both expressions ^^
I love both eyes in the Selena doodles hehe
Art Rambles
XanLena Doodle WIPs ❤️💜
Some recent + old doodles I drew before. I'm planning to refine them eventually!
Xanxus is wearing áo dài ("Long dress"), a type of Vietnamese traditional clothing
Selena is in her usual outfit I designed for her ^^
I think my art style is improving nicely! The way I draw faces is getting more refined
I'll redraw the hair later. I just sketched this quickly for now. Cuz I was just thinking about how I wanted to draw XanLena together more
I have a XanLena art idea in my head... Just need to get started with actually drawing it
Did a quick colour test today. I'll draw the rest later.
I wanna do a big XanLena piece eventually... And also XanLena in traditional Vietnamese clothing~ Matching couple clothing! 🥰💞
I rambled more about XanLena and Selena below.
You can read more under the cut!
Context
I added context for my mutuals who don’t know much about KHR, but would still like to tune into my KHR AUs and KHR OC stuff. Feel free to read only if you want!
Vongola Family = The KHR protagonist, Tsuna, is currently training to become the 10th generation boss of the Vongola family. Tsuna and co. are the Vongola family’s 10th generation guardians.
Varia = The Vongola family’s elite independent assassination squad. Their leader is Xanxus.
Misc Rambles
Sorry but I don't want to retype all this again so I'm just copy pasting from my Notion doc and side blog. I also included my rambles with friends!
Selena's info sheet and character relationship chart was inspired by FGO Materials' character profile formats where it lists a chara's general info, usage of pronouns, quotes, relationships with other charas, etc.
I still need to revamp the quotes with Selena's relationships with the other Varia members so I just posted Xanxus' part for now
Selena is the type who's calm and gentle but likes to keep to herself regarding matters that don't concern her. She's more aloof when she doesn't know the person well, but eventually opens up to the other Varia members.
I imagine Selena speaks in a really polite and formal way to Xanxus out of respect for him.
Xanxus and Hibari are my no. 1 fave KHR characters (tied) 🥰
Also used Glaze on my art as protections against A/I fart.
Also I'm just thinking of the recent FGO: Summer 7 event with Douman growing cursed morning glories (vampiric shikigami), flowers that suck blood.
I NEED THIS FOR SELENA...
DOUMAN BASED!!!
Selena's man eating plants 🥰💞
Selena is very soft and gentle, but she can be a little unhinged, as a treat!
Selena is a gardener and florist (flower enjoyer and enthusiast)
I couldn't help myself, here's my first nace fic. Takes place post s4 based on an alternate s4 ending. Will probably be 5 to 6 chapters filled with angst, a fully outlined plot and a happy ending. Starting with a T rating, but will be changed to M/E later.
Title: Sins of the Past
Summary: You have a soulmate now, he had said to her. That was after a cheerful Bess had barged into the back room of the Claw to inform them that their death curse had gotten destroyed in the Feuris—news that would have been music to her ears had she received it a few weeks earlier. But things were no longer the same. He had broken her heart, and she had betrayed him.
Or, an alternate finale where Nancy was indeed Tristan's wife in the past and Ace could not forgive her, despite their curse being broken.
Now, three months later, Nick goes missing, and the Drew Crew reunites to find their lost friend.
Read on Ao3.
Excerpt from Chapter 1 - The Lovers' Curse.
Thinking back, it was maddening how she hadn't seen the truth from the start.
Instead, she'd spent half the summer traveling with a supposed soulmate, trying aimlessly to regain a lost connection. Because if souls were linked by destiny, then it shouldn't matter that one got a little damaged, right? And yet, she should have known better.
A late July breeze blew from the window of her hotel room, throwing strands of copper across her forehead. In the distance, the East River shone almost silver under a crescent moon, and further back, the glittering skyscrapers of New York pierced the night sky. Nancy held her head between both her palms, as she stared at the research documents sprawled across her desk. Her first reaction was to pick up her phone, scroll down until she found his contact name, and let her thumb hover over it for what felt like endless minutes.
She hadn't talked to him in two months, and they hadn’t parted on the best of terms, so why would he care about what she had just discovered? How did it concern him? She didn’t even know where she’d find him at the moment. It was almost midnight, so he could either be asleep, studying, or… out on a date. The thought of catching Ace in someone’s bed both horrified her and made her feel miserable.
You have a soulmate now, he had said to her. That was after a cheerful Bess had barged into the back room of the Claw to inform them that their death curse had gotten destroyed in the Feuris—news that would have been music to her ears had she received it a few weeks earlier. But things were no longer the same. He had broken her heart, and she had betrayed him.
She scrolled a little further down her contact list and dialed Bess instead.
“Hello?” came the familiar British accent. Hearing her voice made Nancy hesitate. She hadn't called her, or anyone else from the group for that matter, in a month.
“Bess, did I wake you?” she asked. She hadn't realized she'd been trembling, until she heard the sound of her own shaking voice.
“Nancy! No, I just got home. How’s your trip, is everything okay?”
She took a breath to calm herself. Then, the words breezed out of her lips all at once. “We’re not soulmates.”
“What? Of course we are, silly, what are you saying?”
“I mean me and Tristan,” Nancy blurted impatiently. “Bess, remember what you said that day? There was a fine print. If the Sin Eater’s soul was tangled to another’s, the ritual couldn’t work. We thought my soul and his had been connected by destiny, but think about it—our souls being entangled prevented the very thing the founders wouldn’t have wanted to happen in the first place, which was people releasing the Sin Eater’s soul from its burden. Bess, they saw the fine print and made sure to create a failsafe.”
The girl on the other end of the line was silent for a while. “A love curse…” she whispered. “They connected your souls via magic.”
5 for the Hughes, 42 for Royai, and 35 for Fuery/Sheska!
Oh, the Hughes! :') 5. Do they argue often? If so, what do they argue about?
Not often, but just because Maes mooned over Gracia and Elysia constantly doesn't mean everything was perfect at home! When Maes lashed out it was big, loud, emotional responses. He tried to keep Gracia separate from Ishval - he never wanted her to be tainted by the life he and other soldiers led there - and so once (hc) when she cleaned a drawer where he'd hidden some of his correspondence with a war buddy, he blew up at her in a major way. It was verbal not physical, but very much like a feral animal trying to protect itself (he doesn't want her to see any of that), and Gracia backed off at the time but afterwards they had Big Words together about his behaviour.
When Gracia argued with him, it was just like scolding a puppy. ("Maes, calm down - my sister's wedding isn't the right place to talk about how amazing our wedding was in comparison.") She spoke calmly and clearly - and most of the time she was right and he had to back down about the situation, but sometimes she'd start scolding him and Maes knew he was in the right. He'd just persist in his argument until Gracia realised how ridiculous she was being, and she'd get pretty embarrassed. And Maes thought that was really cute. He liked arguing with her when she was wrong - but when he was wrong, it crushed him (very momentarily) to have disappointed her.
Then for Royai, 42. What’s their relationship like with each other’s friends/families?
Well, we've seen Roy interact with all of Riza's family, lol, so briefly about that: Master Hawkeye and General Grumman both look/looked on Roy in the same way - wanting to further their own obsession through him. No wonder H and G didn't get along - they're both so ambitious they wouldn't have been able to compromise for each other.
For a long time, Riza's relationship with Chris Mustang is mutual respect from a distance. Riza is actually really intimidated by Chris - the idea of touching on Roy's personal life strongly enough to meet his family feels forbidden in and of itself, but Riza's scared to face the woman who brought up that idealistic boy when Riza was the one to put a weapon of mass destruction into his hands. She's ashamed.
From Chris' perspective, Roy and Riza are both kids in the same terrible boat, and she's just happy her nephew has found someone who makes him happy. And who enables his scheming - Chris loves scheming, after all.
Roy's sisters love Riza to pieces, but she's scared of them all for a combination of reasons (guilt and too introverted).
And finally, for Feury/Scieszka - 35. Is their relationship a secret? If so, why?
No! They're out there openly dating. There was never a chance to be secret about it, because technically they were supervised for their entire first date. Scieszka ran into the group when they were all at lunch together, and Breda - who knew her from a few intel gathering trips - loudly announced, "You two would get on great. You should date." Feury and Scieszka had been just introduced at that point and they got really embarrassed. They might have just gone their separate ways, but Breda mentioned it to Feury a few times a week for the next month and when Scieszka happened to run into them at lunchtime again, Havoc got talking to her and distracted her long enough to get her to sit down with them, across from a very red Feury. Then Breda told her Kain was interested in finding a particular book about telecommunications, and as she started talking about it, Breda and Havoc just ... slowly slid down the bench ... Then from about two metres away they observed the rest of the date and hissed out hints to Feury about how to keep the conversation going until Feury found his footing.
At the wedding, even though the best man was Feury's younger brother, Havoc and Breda strongarmed their way into making a speech and they called it "the best relationship either of us has ever started."
Movies movies movies:
THE WITCH WHO CAME FROM THE SEA (1976): Disquieting, bloody psychological drama, directed by Matt Cimber (later the founder of G.L.O.W., and the basis for the "Sam Sylvia" character played by Marc Maron on the 2017–2019 G.L.O.W. TV series), about a disturbed young woman named Molly (Millie Perkins, wife of screenwriter Robert Thorn), whose horrifying history of childhood abuse causes her to sublimate sexual attraction into dissociative homicidal fits, when she isn't doting on her two young nephews or drinking herself into a haze. Vibes like an exploitation movie, but too arty and surreal to really qualify as one, and it doesn't ever feel quite like a horror movie despite the lurid subject matter; probably the closest comparison is Abel Ferrara's MS.45, with which it would make an apt double bill. Demands strong CWs for CSA and suicide, both of which are pretty rough, but it definitely makes an impression, perhaps most strikingly in the later scenes where Molly's seedy boss (Lonny Chapman) and bitchy coworker (Peggy Feury) begin to grasp how unhinged Molly has really become, leading to a disturbing finale. Too unsettling to easily recommend, hard to forget.
ALICE GOODBODY (1974): Lightweight, smutty exploitation movie, written, produced, and directed by Tom Scheuer, starring Sharon Kelly as a starstruck Hollywood waitress who loves old movies and movie stars (most of whom the people she meets in the industry have barely even heard of) and who is determined to get a small part in a new musical about Julius Caesar, even though it means sleeping with almost everyone in town. A kind of cheerful low-stakes sex comedy they don't make anymore: The situation is obviously sleazy, but not in any way that ever puts Alice in any particular jeopardy (she's in far more danger on set, where she keeps suffering different workplace accidents). The movie's central running joke is that the men whose favor she's supposed to be cultivating are at least as fixated on their own weird obsessions and neuroses as on sex, something Alice just has to sort of work around as best she can, which ends up making her sympathetic and even relatable. More likable than you'd think.
SPICE WORLD (1997): Delightfully dopey Girl Power homage to Richard Lester's A HARD DAY'S NIGHT, starring the Spice Girls, Richard E. Grant at his Richard E. Grantiest, and a cast of thousands. (Just picking out all the cameos and guest stars is half the fun.) This is what I think the Greta Gerwig BARBIE movie was going for: obviously a commercial product, and making no apologies for its mercantile ambitions, but self-aware enough and full of enough sly piss-taking to be thoroughly enjoyable even if you aren't in (or never had) a Spice Girls phase. Goes on a bit too long, but Grant's outfits alone are worth sticking it out for, and the bridge-jumping climax is very funny.
KALIFORNIA (1993): Mordant thriller starring a disconcertingly young-looking David Duchovny as Brian Kessler, a young writer who blows his advance for a new book about serial killers on an old convertible for him and his horny art photographer girlfriend Carrie Laughlin (Michelle Forbes, with disconcerting bangs) to drive across the country, photographing famous murder sites. Along the way, they pick up a couple of hitchhiking hicks, Early Grayce (Brad Pitt) and Adele Comers (Juliette Lewis), to help pay for gas, not realizing that Early is a paroled convict who's just murdered someone and has no qualms about dropping more bodies along the way. Tim Metcalfe's script (with obligatory '90s voiceover narration) scores some points early on in its depiction of Brian and Carrie's obvious classism and brittle middle-class hipster intellectualism, but the story ends up validating their prejudices rather than questioning them, which keeps the film from being entirely satisfying despite its effectiveness as a thriller. The cast is very good, with Pitt and Forbes the real standouts — Pitt plays Early as a man who draws no line between aw-shucks Southern congeniality and murderous rage, while Forbes makes Carrie's mix of ambition, appetite, and roiling intensity so vivid that you come away wondering what she's doing with Brian, who Duchovny plays as a somewhat gormless jackass. As for Lewis, suffice to say this would make an interesting double bill with NATURAL BORN KILLERS, released about a year later, where she plays a variation on the same damaged theme.
Havoc shook his head and gave a slight shrug. "It's alright. I don't mind. Besides, I've heard some pretty good things about this place around the barracks, so I may as well try something extra since I'm here. I don't eat sweets very often, so it'll be a nice treat. I'll even share them with the team at work tomorrow. Maybe use them to suck up to my boss." He could at least count on Breda and Feury to take a few if he couldn't finish them all himself, but he doubted Roy would care very much. If anything, the colonel would pass them off to whoever he was taking out that night, Havoc thought to himself begrudgingly.
When the girl behind the counter asked if he was alright, however, Havoc's smile grew more genuine. Here he was knocking her merchandise off of a table, and she was asking him if he was alright as if he could have actually gotten hurt from such a light bump. She was certainly sweet, he'd give her that. Maybe it would be worth developing a sweet tooth to come in for a pastry a little more often. He'd really only come in the first place to get his mind off of the girl who'd recently broken up with him after a few of seemingly successful dates. He hadn't been seeing her for very long, but things had been going well, so coming out to the bakery he'd heard about for a pick-me-up seemed like a good idea at the time.
"I'm alright, though," he assured her. "Nothing a good pastry can't fix." He rested an hand on the counter and leaned in a bit to get a better look as the selection, running his gaze curiously over the freshly baked pastries lining the shelves. "Anything you recommend? I'm not much for too rich of a chocolate, but something with fruit or vanilla sounds good right about now."
She smiles softly at him, he was so kind and she had watched the ordeal behind the counter. Her family would be understanding about it, but the fact this man was willing to pay for the cracked ones anyways was rather sweet in her opinion.
"Oh, are you sure? You don't have to if you don't want to. I can just replace them quickly." She'd hate to give him cracked ones, even though he felt at fault for what he did. She wanted to make sure he knew that he didn't have to do that if he didn't want to. Besides she was really fast to bake newer things to replace what was lost, but if he wanted to buy them anyways she wouldn't stop him either.
"I do hope you're alright, though." She was still worried about him, especially if he was embarrassed she would know that she gets embarrassed and how that made her feel sometimes. Wanting to make sure the man was comfortable too.
"Sounds like you've been making a nice life for yourself here. I'm proud of you, little brother. I'd love to meet your foster mom, so i can thank her for taking such good care of you."
Ed couldn't wait to actually sit down with Al and hear about everything he'd been through, just listening to him talk lit a fire of joy within him that he never thought he'd feel again. He couldn't help but wonder how Al had ended up on this side of the portal, but at that moment he couldn't care less.
"Oh, me? I live with Dad. Oh, sorry....Roy's here too..And Feury, Hughes, even Black Hayate! I started callin' Mustang dad a while back and I guess you could say it stuck, he's even started callin' me his son. I bet he'd probably call you the same too. I've made quite a few new friends here; I can't wait for you to be able to meet them all! There's Yugi and Atem...Yami, too. And you'll have to introduce me to any new friends you've made, too."
He couldn't help the happy little chirp within his voice, arms crossed proudly over his chest as he stepped back and just...Took in the sight of the handsome young man his brother had become.
For the first time in over a year, Ed felt a spark that was stronger than anything he'd ever felt before. Relief, joy, so many emotions at once, but it didn't take long before those tears he'd shed gave way to a wide, boyish smile that he hadn't given in what felt like forever. Pulling back to get a good look at his brother, he couldn't resist reaching up to gently tousle that soft hair.
"God, look at you! You've really grown, Al!" He exclaimed, quickly wiping his eyes though that smile was not going away anytime soon.
"You're even taller than me now. Not that you weren't when you were in that armor, but hell! You've probably got the girls fawnin' all over you, ya tall handsome bastard~." He teased gently, a warm chuckle leaving his chest as he spoke.
For the first time since arriving to this new world, somehow...he felt alive again. As though he could finally breathe.
#kindheartedbrother#{we're not in central anymore;; ygo verse}#This thread filled my soul with so much joy it's not even funny
A new nutcracker oc!!
W.i.p. on this story though. But here she is!
The story is under the cut.
Buttercup is a fall fairy that loves the idea of exploring and seeing the rest of the kingdoms. Then why doesn't she? Well in my version of fairies each fairy has this magical pull to go back to their area of the kingdom. There's the central middle part of the kingdoms and the 4 different weather kingdoms around the middle. Each fairy lives in one of the weather kingdoms and it's deemed too dangerous to leave beside when they need to affect the middle kingdoms when the seasons change. But that time is short when they go to the middle kingdoms or anywhere at all besides the weather kingdom, they are stuck in. At least that’s what Buttercup feels.
Buttercup has a hard time getting along with other fairies so she ended up making odd friends that the other fairies think that Buttercup is odder than most fairies for. Buttercup’s friends are Hans- A traveling toy seals man and Clarrest- a toy soldier that works with Hans. When they come to the fall kingdom Buttercup is meettally on their heels or shoulders. The two do really like this little fairy and have fun telling her stories of where they have been and what she missed. Buttercup is so happy when they come and so sad when they leave. Buttercup always wanted to come with them but she's unable to do so for so long.
Hans and Clarrest know that. So when Hans got invited to a party that the castle was having he decided Buttercup would be his plus one. Buttercup was so excited to hear the news. Something to talk about fairies in this world can shift forms from their normal small fairy form to human-sized. But this takes a lot of magic and energy to do more than a short while. When they are human-sized fairies still have their wings they can even still fly it drains their magic much faster but they still can do it. Their wings look more like cloaks or capes when their human size.
So Buttercup human-sized herself and went to the party with Hans. It was amazing for Buttercup. She had only seen the castle from the outside only so briefly to her. Now she got to talk to many people and see more than she had gotten to see in a long time. Sometime during the party, a mouse had shifted into a human guise and wandered into the hall of the party. This mouse had a weird staff the Buttercup noted the magic of it felt off. So she went to Hans to tell him. But when Buttercup had almost told Hans. The Mouse revealed herself. The Mouse was the sorcerer for this kingdom but had been thrown out because the king feared magic- for good reason at least for him- and she was tired of people being shunned due to them having magic. So with a wave of her staff, she unleashed the staff's magic. The staff's magic went wild and cursing people left and right turning them into magical creatures. And gems on the staff shot out due to the magical spell going wild without much control. One gem was going to hit Hans if Buttercup didn’t push him out of the way. The gem was implanted in Buttercup's chest. Buttercup was feeling her curse take hold turning her body to wood. Hans grabbed her by sweeping her off her feet. Rushing to exit the castle's madness. But he didn't noticed that he’d been cursed to shift into a mouse and Buttercup who had shrunk into the size of a nutcracker doll. The castle windows shattered and the other gems flew out into the sky. Clouds bellowed out of the castle the magic spell over casting ahead. The kingdom was going to be in case in the magics feury as well.
Note Buttercup actually can shift into a human size much easier now. She gets small most of the time if she needs to hide or need to fit into a small area or is low magic. Also, the gem in her chest is one of many that they need to find to stop this magical storm ripping through the kingdoms. But their not the only ones looking for them. And one more she still can fly again takes more magic though.
Excerpt from my newest fic — Sins of the Past
Summary: You have a soulmate now, he had said to her. That was after a cheerful Bess had barged into the back room of the Claw to inform them that their death curse had gotten destroyed in the Feuris—news that would have been music to her ears had she received it a few weeks earlier. But things were no longer the same. He had broken her heart, and she had betrayed him.
Or, an alternate finale where Nancy was indeed Tristan's wife in the past, and Ace could not forgive her, despite saving her and breaking their curse.
Now, three months later, Nick goes missing, and the Drew Crew reunites to find their lost friend.
Excerpt / Chapter 3:
She was alone when she entered. But not for long.
Ace barged in after a few seconds, breathless. Her heart lurched in her chest, and there was that split moment where she lost all coherent thought—her eyes rounded, and her lips parted, like a fish out of the water—before she trained her features into a frown.
"What are you doing here?" she said through gritted teeth. "We have to act appropriately, if someone walks in—"
"You're being haunted," Ace cut her off, catching his breath.
She stared at him, speechless. "I—I'm not—"
He frowned. "I know you. You're not suffering from some weird jet lag," he said, as though it was offensive for her to even think to use that ridiculous excuse on him. "You saw something—or rather, someone. Once, when we first entered the lounge and then just now, when you jumped."
Again, words evaded her, her eyes trapped in the sparkling blue depths of his irises. His hair was still disheveled from the landing. And it had been months since Nancy had gotten free from the lust juice, but the need to dip her fingers into those luscious locks was still as imperative as ever. His earring was missing—Unfortunately, mens' piercing wasn't going to be in fashion for the next two decades at least.
She sighed. "Fine, yes, I'm being haunted."
He blinked, a hint of surprise crossing his features. He clearly hadn't expected her to surrender so easily. "And you didn't tell the truth, because you're planning to solve the mystery."
"Well, not exactly. I just want to find out who she—is…" Her voice faltered, as she realized exactly what memories would resurface with her words.
A shadow crossed Ace's eyes, and Nancy knew that he, too, remembered—How could he not? He arched his brow. "She?"
Nancy nodded, holding her breath, waiting for him to reprimand her, tell her what a bad idea this was. In her mind, they were back at the Claw—their Claw—wind howling around them as he barged in yet another room she was alone in to tell her not to chase after the ghost he'd developed an affinity for. The ghost of the girl whose death he'd caused, and she had covered.
But this Ace simply exhaled, his eyes still distant, but not angry. "Tell me what happened," he said.
Nancy stared at him for a bit. "Why?" she asked, before she could help herself, surprised at how cold and steady her own voice sounded.
He gave her a confused look. "What do you mean, why?"
"Why do you care?"
It was his turn to remain speechless, his lips parting, his gaze wavering, momentarily falling to her lips. And there was that glimpse of her Ace—so brief she could have almost imagined it—the soft, vulnerable, naked Ace that had once stared into her soul and told her he'd loved her since high school.
She smiled tentatively, trying to discharge the situation. "I mean, you neither called nor texted me the whole summer."
A soft frown between his eyes. "You didn't either."
Feury returns from the clock tower mission with blood all over him and haunted eyes and they all think it's because Jean got stabbed by his girlfriend and almost died, but when Heymans gets back from Xing where he had been safely away from it all, he gets whiplash from Feury grabbing his lapels and yelling "IT WAS YOUR FAULT" in his face.
(Feury: the things I have heard
Breda: work smarter not harder (run away to the next country over to avoid hearing it, like I did))
Headcanon:
The whole Elizabeth/flirting thing was Breda’s idea. As the group is planning how to keep Roy in the loop for the whole clocktower mission, he just sort of …
Breda: Well, sir, you do have your reputation. I know it’s for info gathering mostly, but we could leverage it here, too.
Roy: Oh?
Breda: (glancing at Hawkeye, oh, I am so sorry) Maybe instead of just meeting dates on work time, you could start calling them too.
Roy and Riza exchange a glance.
Roy: So I flirt with Lieutenant Hawkeye … for the mission?
Riza: That’s actually a pretty good way to keep you informed.
Roy: DID YOU JUST NOT VETO IT??
Breda: So do you guys think you could … I mean I know it’s weird and all … But for the mission ….
Riza: Yes, that’s totally fine.
Breda: And just in case the wire is tapped, you’ll need to sound like one of his other dates
Riza: Like this ~ ♩ ?
Roy: (leaning closer) YES.
Breda: (what have I done)
