UHM!!!! HI!!!!! Just wanted to pop in to say I love the way you draw Muddler and Joxter -- they're so.. idk how to describe but their vibes are off the charts, I just love them. It's been a while since fandesigns for them stood out to me.
- Flowerbloom-arts
AUAUUAUAUU !!!! THAT MEANS ALOT THANK YOU!!!! I feel like I draw them differently each time, so they're less than consistent but they're fun to draw all the same. Muddler to me is probably the tallest in the Oshun Oxtra crew with Hodgkins being just a bit below him, I like the idea of him being tall and lanky. Him fitting awkwardly in his can as well as looking awkward next to the rest of the crew is such a fun concept for him. That and I like the double whiskers I do for him, idk what look it gives him but it fits REALLY well for me. Of course baggy clothes and i have yet to draw his GLOVE SOCKS but overall he gives me like weasel energy not in the sense of behavior (maybe) but definitely looks. Joxter is deliberately coded as a cat in the memoirs, but I don't like the look of going too into the "creechur" look a lot of people go for. Instead I kept him more regular looking because I think it emphasizes more how ruffled and lazy he looks- he's not elaborate or anything and his looks, I think, should mirror that. It's also why I have him wrapped in a blanket all the time!! Trying to evoke the idea of when you first get up and you walk around with a blanket wrapped around you until you decide to get dressed. For his hair I literally do whatever it is NOT consistent. I think the only creature-esque parts i have for him are his nose, whiskers and tail, but that's about it.

Joxter 5 13 16 18 23
5: favorite ship of them: ummm not sure. I like Joxter x Mymble, Joxter x Muddler, and Joxter x Muddler x Fuzzy and maybe one more? Forget what it was. I like them all for slightly different reasons; not really any that I like more than others I think of these
13: favorite friendship they have: probably Joxter and Muddler’s friendship as the favorite they’re great
16: a childhood headcanon: uhmmm not sure if this means a headcanon I made as a child for them or for when they were children? I guess the latter so in that case…. Yeah Idk. Don’t particularly have a headcanon for then but maybe that he and Muddler have been friends for a while longer (maybe a couple months, maybe a year or two before Moominpappa (then known as Moomin)showed up?
18: how they were as a child: Laid back (but slightly more awake), prankster naturally, Very Smug, likes telling stories about people he knows
23: future headcanon: Hmm don’t really have on of these for him particularly either but perhaps that he continues to sleep in Mymble’s garden but when Mymble moves elsewhere he just kind of goes wherever she does around her shoulders like a scarf. Sometimes he gets dropped off wherever Fuzzy and Muddler are and go wherever they go. He’s just kind of Around, going wherever he is taken. Sometimes he ends up at Moominhouse but less often, mostly when Mymble is visiting. He mostly sees Snufkin when that happens or if Snufkin happens to pass by Mymble with Joxter and the mymble children

@modestmuses said: Joxter: “what’s goin' on in that head'a y'rs?”
(Intense vibes starters - open!)
Ink starts a little at the question, looking over at the one who asked. When he sees that it's the Joxter, he immediately feels embarrassed. He hadn't realized that he was zoning out while making a drink for the older man, but evidently he was, and he reflexively goes to apologize as a small, sheepish smile crosses his face.
"Sorry about that," he says. "I'm just a bit distracted today, that's all. I appreciate you asking, but it's nothing particularly interesting. I'll be alright." He finishes making the Joxter a drink, then slides it over to him with a slightly more confident, friendly grin followed by a playful wink.
"Here you go!" he says. "If you need anything else, just let me know, alright?" There aren't that many other customers at the Morning Glory today, and no one calls Ink over just yet, so he instead busies himself behind the bar. Anything to keep himself distracted.
The Joxter wasn't wrong when he asked that question--there is something on Ink's mind right now, but it's not something that he wants to just dump on his acquaintance without warning, even if the Joxter is the one who asked.
Because, really, just because they've talked a few times doesn't mean that Ink is going to feel comfortable spilling his guts to him.

So I watched Moominvalley season 4 and uhhh
It's a Moominvalley season I guess. Which happened to be the final one? Also Comet in Moominvalley was... An episode. That was the final one🤨?
Like there was definitely some nice stuff in this season. Like Moominpapa and Aunt Jane was great in my opinion. But then you had THE final episode which was Comet in Moominvalley, which had such a weird pacing if you ask me. It was also super anticlimactic, and didn't feel like a final episode at all. (Though I'm very happy that the Groke found some sort of friends in the Valley, really nice.)
There was also barely any Snufkin content??? Like. It's Snufkin! The most popular Moomin character? They gave him so much character development in the first 3 seasons only to have him show up in like 3 or 4 episodes of the last one. Not to forget how they baited a meeting between him and the Joxter (who was in Moominvalley for 3 episodes! And Snufkin only appeared in the last of those 3 episodes.) only to not do something with it. Though I give it to them that this probably would've been a bit difficult to tackle. I'm also not sure if there's another official Moomin Media where they do actually physically met? I think in the books Snufkin knows that Joxter is his dad, but never actually met him.
Though I very much appreciate how Little My continues to be extremely annoyed with the Mymble. You go girl. (Which brings to the question if anyone knows that Snufkin, including him, is also a child of the Mymble/Little Mys brother? The Mymble definitely wouldn't tell anyone on her own. Though I feel like it was implied that they know it in the Aunt Jane episode, but also not really. One way or the other they gave off the correct sibling vibes in that episode.)
And for the rest of the episodes.... I don't even remember all of them. Like, there wasn't really anything to pay attention to in most episodes. Not sure why we needed a whole episode for Brisk in the final episode (Misabel content is always good though). The train episode was kinda funny. I did like how the Joxter either didn't listen to what was going on or just took a nap most of the time (mood). And again I liked that the Groke had more positive interactions with some of the main characters.
So yeah. All in all the season was honestly a bit dissapointing. Especially the last episode. They really fumbled with Comet in Moominvalley. Moominpapa and Aunt Jane would have honestly been a much better final episode. Mostly cause it was about Moominpapas book releasing, which he wrote entire time over, and ends on a message of "family can be very complicated" (absolutely, yes, thank you). And since the Moomins just are this big mix of biological and found family I feel like this would have worked pretty well as a final episode.

What are your thoughts on Moominvalley's comet special?
I talked a little about it in this other ask response, but overall I was disappointed. I think it's quite telling that the part of it that made me the most emotional was the opening credits 😅
Someone else said it was "underwhelming" and I think that's a good descriptor for it. The rest of the season as a whole already didn't really feel final enough to me, and you'd expect the finale to make up for that and give you that big feeling of wrapping up the whole series in a satisfying way, but it just didn't hit that mark for me.
The actual journey in the first half just wasn't as epic and exciting as I was hoping it'd be, and I think that's partially due to them using elements from Comet in previous episodes so they didn't wanna reuse them again, like the stilts (though surely they could've brought them back...). The cave Moomintroll and Snufkin end up in also feels like a missed opportunity - it's such a beautiful setting, but all they do there is panic, then see the Hemulen, then he leads them out. Idk what exactly they could've done instead, but surely there was something interesting the writers could've come up with to utilise that space more.
The way Snufkin brought up the sun oil was so awkward and forced; I know it was to establish it so that Sniff could have his whole stinky salesman arc in the latter half, but it's really weird how he explains its origin to his friends again even though all of them apart from Snork were there in Fire Spirit! Speaking of, that was a real step down for Sniff, and I would've preferred him to have an arc surrounding the kitten instead. Maybe he spends the time trying to gain its trust or something, and then at the end, finally manages to do so and rescues it to bring it back to the cave.
And speaking of the cave, I didn't like that change, either (honestly I just think I disliked most of the changes they made from the novel tbh lol. like I get they don't just wanna rehash it and want this to be new and original to an extent, but sometimes that can go too far, or just in the wrong direction). It's just really stupid for them to be like "we need to face our fear and face the comet!" it's a COMET! It's not a mysterious noise you hear in the middle of the night that you can investigate, it's a big hot rock that'll kill you all!! And then Groke moves towards it, and ~something~ happens, but this is a family show so they have her moan again at the end to show she's still alive and I love Jack but his delivery of "I'm so relieved" is so weirdly flat that it doesn't help how awkward and unnatural this ending is lmao.
Now this is more of a personal gripe, but I don't like how Snufkin is positioned at the end. When they're facing the Groke, he's right next to Moomintroll, which I like (and also brings to mind Night of the Groke when they faced her together), but then after the white flash, he's not only nowhere near Moomintroll, but not even near their friends? And he walks away WITH THE POLICE INSPECTOR?! Like thank god Joxter doesn't know he's his dad he'd have a heart attack if he found out his son was so chummy with the cops smh. You could maybe argue this isn't even just a personal complaint, and that Snufkin has objectively been one of Moomintroll's most important relationships in this series, so for them to not have some kind of moment or interaction at the end feels wrong.
Something I was going to discuss in that other ask reply but I ultimately deleted because I couldn't find the words at the time was Little My's characterisation. This season in particular made me feel as though she's so, like, mad all the time. And I understand that anger is her thing, but it's usually a cheery kind of angry, you know? But in this series she sometimes just seems so frustrated and upset and although I like that it explores the more emotionally dramatic side of her, I was hoping that by this final season at least she'd be in a more comfortable and happy place. But in this Comet special she's so exasperated and moody with Moominpappa and I wish they just made it feel more like daughter-light-heartedly-poking-fun-at-her-dad, I guess?
Snork is interesting in this special because he plays quite a big role in it, but I also feel so sorry for him cause he's always getting cut off or used by Pappa and Sniff who don't properly listen to him and I just want to give him a big (figurative bc he hates hugs) hug my poor smart boy let him infodump. There's also a moment where he says "I can explain-" and his sister says "Thanks, Snork, but we really need to carry on!" which is so obviously the writers trying to squeeze in Snorkmaiden's characterisation from the book where she's practical in the face of her brother's long-winded meetings, and is a great example of the feminism of her character there, but it just doesn't quite work the same here. Once again just not as natural as it should feel.
On a positive note, I LOVED the look of the comet itself - every shot of it looked so cool and it changed the lighting of the valley in a fun and interesting way. I also liked how Jarmo and Samuli gave the score of the episode a funky sci-fi sound, which helped set it apart as something special for the series. And despite all my negatives, it's still entertaining! It's enjoyable to watch! Just, for someone who had expectations based on the whole series and the novel, underwhelming.
