jojo siwa claiming she's revitalizing gay pop and releasing 'karma' on the same night as conan gray's 'found heaven' and chappell roan's 'good luck babe' is so poetically ironic. it's like the universe WANTS to draw a comparison between jojo and queer pop artists.
the thing that makes queer pop compelling as a genre is the unique storytelling and experiences of queer artists told through their music. that doesn't necessarily mean every song by a queer artist has to be about their queerness. they don't have to scream "hey i'm gay!" in every single song they write. but claiming to be "reinventing gay pop" should mean you're telling interesting stories about your queer experience, right???
'found heaven' by conan gray is about growing up as a queer kid with religious guilt and disapproving parents. he equates being in love in an authentic way to "finding heaven", and the piece as a whole resonates with a TON of queer people in different stages of their lives. some people can look back at their childhoods and how much they've grown since then, some can relate because they're currently going through what conan's written about, and some people can sympathize with the way some queer people are treated, even if they aren't necessarily queer themselves.
'good luck babe' is a song about queerness and compulsory heterosexuality. chappell sings about a woman she was in a relationship with who decided to settle down in a conventional marriage despite being queer. the song reflects the denial a lot of queer people go through (specifically regarding the lesbian experience) and the unfortunate way a lot of them end up repressing who they are to conform to societal standards. it's fun, it's campy, but its message is still poignant.
as for karma… there's nothing inherently queer about that song. the music video for the original version, ‘karma’s a bitch’ by brit smith, featured a heterosexual storyline. jojo buying the rights to a song she didn't write isn't inherently a bad thing, a lot of mainstream artists do that all the time. however, if you're claiming to be a pioneer of the “gay pop” genre and your music doesn't reflect any queer themes or experiences, is it really “gay pop”? again, queer artists don't have to write exclusively about their queerness, but if you try to present yourself as a voice for the queer community without telling any of their stories, you're not going to be lauded as some revolutionary figure. if any of the songs on jojo’s album are actually about her experience as a lesbian or contain any queer themes, then i think she'd qualify as a “gay pop” artist. but so far, she's given us a faux edgy, generic pop song and tried to market it as some insane never-been-done-before feat. and honestly, if her entire album is like this and she continues to market herself this way, it's a slap in the face to all the genuine artists and storytellers in the queer community.
but let's stop talking about jojo siwa and start talking about the incredible queer artists who are truly breathing life into the "gay pop" genre: chappell roan, renee rapp, ben platt, conan gray, girl in red, kevin atwater, baby queen, mitski, clairo, dodie, and SO MANY MORE (feel free to add on some of your favourites because there are so many wonderful artists out there <3)
also: if you have a different perspective on this situation i would absolutely love to hear what you think and if you agree / disagree with this! i love discussing topics like this so feel free to reblog with your own take
#jojo siwa#karma#chappell roan#conan gray#queer pop#also the fact that this rebrand is a coverup for jojo's awful behavior#like be fucking fr#don't use the queer community as a sheild

Okay, I know it’s sad that tmagp jmart “never even met” but I do want to point out that Jon said they’d be together wherever they went not that they were together in every universe. TMA jmart could still be together (in the puters) that doesn’t have anything to do with any jons and martins that existed elsewhere on their own
#but also it’s hella suspicious that they died around the same time#especially ‘around 20 years ago’#what else happened around 20 years ago???#couldn’t possibly be that whole magnus institute burning thing nahhhhhh#it’s weird as hell that they died separately and yet around the same age#what are the odds of that#tbh I think either they’re not actually dead#or they *were* together when they died and it’s a coverup#tmagp#the magnus protocol#tmagp spoilers

New better pictures of my tattoos, now that it's not bright red and under harsh lights. I'm so deeply in love with them and they've helped me find so much new love for my body and appreciate my top surgery journey again. I'm happy they still show in places, I'm shocked to realize how invisible they are still. And they're hot. Click for quality, as always with this wonderful website.
Edit: since these are blowing up I forgot to add in this post, artist is @ fyodorpavlovtattoo on instagram. And I also wanted to add that these are specifically laurel branches which have a personal meaning to me but also represent victory

Acotar Rant
If I see another take saying "What Rhysand did to Feyre utm was for her protection!!!" I am going to riot.
What protection? Sweetheart, point me in the direction of the protection.
"It was so she wouldn't break" Oh so sitting in a dungeon is more traumatic than being drugged and SAed?
"It was so Amarantha wouldn't hurt her!" Rhysand bringing Feyre out only brought Amarantha's attention to her, reminding her of Feyre's existence and putting her in the spotlight of the enemy.
"The drugging stopped Feyre from being forced to remember!" So give her alcohol in the dungeon, then she can choose to drink it and still forget.
Rhysand made Feyre give him lap dances until she threw up. Until. She. Vomited. Then forced her to do it again and again. She was coherent here enough that she remembers all of this.
"Oh it was so he could make Tamlin angry enough!" Tamlin was angry. He was scared shitless for Feyre's safety as pointed out in the text. Multiple times in the first few pages of Feyre seeing him again for the first time utm, he 'went very very still', 'went white', started shaking etc etc.
Tamlin was playing a mask. Feyre acknowledged it. She said herself "he loves me enough that even now he is still trying to protect me."
Tamlin was going to kill Amarantha the first chance he got anyway. He was under spells that even Rhysand couldn't penetrate, the supposed 'most powerful High lord'. If the one who is supposed to be the strongest can't break free from Amarantha what makes you think Tamlin can?
Rhysand abused Feyre under the mountain. He sexually assaulted her, physically assaulted her, emotionally traumatized her, for literally no reason at all.
So before everyone goes and runs with what Rhysand SAID he did, lets go back and remember what he ACTUALLY did.

You know of course depression plays a part in it but people say with Mike his inability to say it was what was causing her to think that besides that but I'd like to remind us all of the saying "If he loved you, you'd know"
We need to come back to the fact that yes, Mike couldn't say that he was in love with El. But there are other ways to convey to someone that you're in love with them.
Actions speak louder than words and, really, it was never about lacking the words. It was about how lacking the words pointed out clearer than ever that the actions weren't there in the first place.
Having the words can shield the fact that he doesn't seem like he's in love with either. You assume that both are there. But if one goes away and there's nothing left...you can't really unlearn that. She knows that he loves her now. I wonder what she knows of him being in love with her.
Because she didn't confront him on the word itself until prompted. Their original fight was about his actions. "The way you looked at me," for example. It wasn't he was in love with her but just couldn't say the word.
It was that not being able to say the word meant that there were no bells and whistles to distract
from things like this
Because that argument looks different with no supporting evidence of him not loving her outside of the words. But the words are her supporting evidence. To her initial point: his actions. The words weren't even part of her original argument. She hadn't even felt the need to reach for them as proof.
That argument was not just based on his words. So how can the solution be? He was acting like he wasn't in love with her. She caught it. And at that point, probably started noticing he never said it. Because I doubt she started counting days from when he first said or even when she left if she assumed as she seemed to for a while that she did. It didn't seem like she's was counting every day for eight months. It seemed like she started to notice and checked her facts to find they were right. Something prompted that. Maybe a couple letters in a row were a little dry. Maybe she needed it more one day, then noticed that week after week it didn't come and checked back.
But her observation of him not saying it was prompted by his actions. It's why she didn't even bring up his words herself. Only when he argued her. They were her trump card, not her argument.
The fight was about Mike's actions. His words were just an example. He still hasn't solved his actions. Remember, by her account:
This was him not convincing her too.
He has not fixed this. He has stalled it. At best, he put it back to where it was before she noticed, not before it was true.
#elmike fight#elmike textual analysis#textual analysis#she wasn't even planning on bringing the ily into it#therefore it wasn't the actual problem or plot any more than it was in season 3#introduced later to cover up the fact that they never actually solved the original issue#a coverup for the writers#but you'll also see by his reaction - especially in season - a coverup for mike#his excitement at blank makes you crazy and shock when her ily2 revealed that that wasn't the problem#stranger things#anti milkvan
