i just want to to let you know that it was your art of vil with kid jack and leona with kid epel for that single parent leovil fic that really pulled me into leovil. i stumbled upon it by chance when scrolling through a vil blog and saw it reblogged and LOST MY DAMN MIND. particularly baby wolf jack. cause why am i now putting together an epic the musical/odyssey/illiad au for leovil?? (your art. your art is why) itll probably never escape my docs but. so far??

helen and penelope. cousins and princesses of sparta--their dads are brothers and co-ruled. penelope's mother was a water nymph (naiad, so freshwater) whereas helen was the daughter of zeus......soooo.....HEAR ME OUT!!!!!!

neige as helen. vil as penelope. now, i was originally gonna go the rkvl route, because that line in the challenge, when penelope tells the suitors she will marry whoever "can string her husbands old bow and shoot through 12 axes cleanly"--smth her husband odysseus was only able to do, well, a rkvl version of that could go SO HARD.

esp cause like, idk i could just give rook a random kingdom, cause yes, leona is a prince, but technically falena would be king. and i thought of making them menelaus (leona) and agamemnon (falena) with VIL as helen, i mean, come ON!!!!!! it would be SO GOOD!! but odysseus and penelope's story was just tugging at my heart, and i couldnt decide. until i realized that actually this is a fic and it doesnt have to be a 1 to 1 substitution, i can play around and do whatever i want.

(and jack as little wolf telemachus is everything. and neige as helen, both "fairest of them alls" and cursed via apple??? i love it)

sooooo. im thinking.

vil and neige are cousins, princes of. pyroxene? or maybe pyroxene would be made up of a few kingdoms....hmmmmm...idk yet. regardless, their parents' co-rule their kingdom. but neige is the actual heir of the throne. this could be because vil is technically illegitimate. eric had no wife, he just really wanted to be a dad. and so vil's mother, for purposes of this, is either a vampire or a water nymph, or some sort of enchantress, idk, but regardless, vil isnt going to inherit. (also read @pinkbeeps sympathy for the villain fic and lost my mind over it so, yeah, crewel is a vil dad, so at some point when vil and neige are 7 and 6 respectively, crewel and eric get together.)

meanwhile, sunset savannah was split by a civil war? or a revolt of some kind. leona and falena stop it, but part of the truce that is made is that falena cannot rule all of it. so the elephant graveyard half, and some surrounding land makes up what becomes leona's kingdom. why? idk.

then, when neige is like, 17, vil 18, and leona 20, its decided that neige should get married, so all the suitors from various kingdoms come. cause, heir to the throne. and fairest of them all. falena, who is now married himself and has cheka, suggests leona go, but leona isnt rlly looking to get married. falena bugs him abt it tho, and leona still isnt for the marriage thing but rationales that princes and infleuntial people from all over will be vying for neige's hand. leona can go, but not for purposes of throwing his hat in the ring, (neige is an heir and leona has a kingdom to take care of--neither of them would leave their respective homes) but rather, to make connections to better help his people.

and then he meets vil. guy is SMITTENNNNNNN from the get go, he's like, whoever was giving out the fairest of them all titles, did they like, not see you???? heLLO??????

vil is warming up to leona, but also, lets be real, vil has an insecurity abt being a backup, second option when it comes to neige. he would have been wary considering leona is here in technicality as a suitor for neige. but it becomes apparent leona was not here for that in acuality. cause leona, in true oddysseus fashion, does not even bring a wedding gift, guy was just here to network and then fell in love.

it goes as the story always does. neige's parents are worried abt the influx of suitors and wondering how to choose without angering one kingdom over the other. and leona is like, hey i got a solution, but if you want it, you gotta put in a good word for me with vil's parents, your brother and BIL, and you gotta convince them that its okay if vil marries. and theyre like DEAL.

leona proposes his solution--the oath made by all suitors to defend neige and whoever he chooses if a rival ever takes neige away. they would march against the offender and destroy their city.

neige's parents are like damn thats brilliant and then talk to eric and crewel. who put forth a test for leona to pass. he does.

they marry, leona's wedding gift to vil, the living olive tree bed he makes himself, and they have jack and epel, idk how, surrogates? adoption? not sure. but then, the apple, neige is taken away, and that oath comes back to bite leona in the ass. he pretends he's crazy to dodge the draft but baby jack gets tossed in front of the plough and leona saves them, and is forced to go to war etc etc. they win, and then it takes him FOREVERRRR to get home, and then--well we know how it goes!

I was flabbergasted cause, a few days ago I saw a new leovil fic about Epic the Musical (yes, I do have an open tab of Ao3 on my phone with the leovil tag that I refresh almost every night. When I say I have an otp, I have an otp.) and, since the name rings vaguely a bell, I asked my theater kid friend about this Musical. I just wanted to listen to it before reading the fic and then, I understood Epic the Musical.

"Warrior!Penelope AU" is super fun and I love it too but I hate the fact that I'll see shit with "she's finally cool now." as though she wasn't cool before.

And idk, as an Ares fan as well, I still wish it was Athena. She already looks after and is Penelope's patron Goddess in the Odyssey, most likely since she was young as well. Why can't she continue to watch over her?

Odysseus talks about how smart Penelope is and y'all think Athena's just gonna ignore her? Why? Because she's a woman? Did Penelope only become smart because of Odysseus? She's the goddess of weaving and Penelope is a damn good weaver and is cunning af. Literally other characters describe her as wise and cunning all the time in the Odyssey and Athena literally tell Telemachus that "You're your mother's son as well; you'll be fine." basically.

This isn't against anyone who enjoys or creates with the AU. I'm just complaining and I'm sad that there are some people who think that she has to be in a war to be "cool". I mean I have my lil kickass Penelope as well, being 75% naiad and a spunky lil shit, and that's just with what is in the Odyssey and what is known about Penelope that I've researched. She's cool. Non-AU or AU, doesn't matter.

I know that when people do warrior! Penelope AU's, they typically go for Ares as her patron, but I think that Aphrodite would also work well, maybe even better than Ares!

OH MY GOD. OHHHHHHHHH MY GOD. OH MY GOOOOOOOOD

So I decided to try and write a lil Naiad Penelope and Telemachus fic and I'm kinda proud of it's turning out hihihi

Vague thoughts about the warrior Penelope au character designs:

Penelope~~ has pale skin, and dark hair that looks like it's tinted somewhat blueish. This is because she's half naiad. She also has pointed ears. She starts out wearing mostly white with a red cape over her armor, but as the story progresses the red starts overtaking her wardrobe more and more. From the ocean saga upward she stops wearing armor and starts wearing a peplos, a dress Spartan woman wore that also showed off their thighs, because she thought she was about to get home and the got immediately thrown to Tiresias's island. Maybe it starts white with a red sash but she slowly starts adding more red details and by the time act 2 begins she should be fully in red.

Odysseus is wearing himations and long clothes that cover him a lot. You can probably guess why. Olive skin, brown hair that goes around his shoulder blades, gray eyes. In Penelope's memory he looks young and handsome and vibrant. By the time we meet him he looks tired and like he cries every day (he does). He's dressed in lots of calm, albeit washed out colors, low greens, pale blues. They should be drowned out by the colors of the suitresses, slowly at first, but by the time we reach Hold Them Down, their brighter more abrasive violets and maybe reds (different shade than Penelope's) should completely make his softer tones disappear. He, alongside Telemachus, is the only character to wear pearls; currently envisioning it as one of those collections of strings that go around the torso, plus the snake bracelets.

Telemachus should wear teal, combining his dad's green and blue tones into a brighter, bolder color. Maybe his pearl details are a necklace/chain (one of those lopsided ones that goes down the arm) and earrings. He wears only the blue and green here since Odysseus was the one who raised him. He's paler than his dad and has darker hair and pointed ears, and also his mom's eyes.

Odyssey Mermaid AU ideas (inspired by @dootznbootz 's post and @tagzpite 's Fishysseus AU ):

On account of their naiad genes, Telemachus and Penelope can turn their legs into mermaid tails when wet.

Instead of sailing to find his father, Telemachus swims out to sea using his merman tail to find him. Meanwhile Penelope has to stay behind and rule Ithaca in his absence. And instead of asking Menelaus, Telemachus decides to ask Poseidon himself.

Instead of a sea nymph saving Odysseus from drowning, Telemachus in his merman form finds and saves him. As in the poem, Telemachus would swim them both to Phaecia as it's the nearest land, then his tail turns back into legs.

Once Telemachus and Odysseus are safely on land, they get to know each other. Cue emotional father-son reunion much sooner than in the poem. Telemachus would instantly get his dad up to speed on what's happened in Ithaca since his absence.

The rest of the story is just like in the original poem.

So I went ahead and turned Odysseus into a Lykoi cat

I still think its clever, especially if Telemachus is a lykoi cat too, just because hes called little wolf

It's kind hard showing the patches on a lykoi where the fur is thinner/thinnest, but I tried

I didnt do any serious lineart, and the athena emblem was completely from memory, and idk what sword to give him in that lil doodle there

But this was fun

I didnt intend for they eyes to look like that but ngl i kinda like it. Reminds me of how some of my favorite artists draw cat eyes

So ig i can go over my ideas for the premises of this cat au

All the normal humans, like odysseus, are normal cats. Any breed bc i am not serious enough about this is do research on what cats where made in which time.

Some limitations I will break for the sake of recognizable character design, but I am also not a good character designer at all, so ehe

Characters who look human but have some godly power, or close lineage with the mythical, will look like normal cats but have patterns or features that separate them from the typical. Like Calpyso, though a typical classic brown tabby, will have some markings that are a sunset palette ombre. Im still thinking about Circe.

In the case of Penelope, she is the daughter of a naiad nymph, so perhaps she would have, idk, sharper ears or webbed paws or smthn, for hydrodynamicism or something like that

Now for gods, they will be cats as well, but they have major features that displays their status. Hermes and Athena have wings, Hermes all across his body and Athena two large owl wings. Aeolus is a cloud..? shaped? like a cat? i'll draw them soon

For the gods whos animals are like, bovine or equine, they will have hooves. Thatll be weird to design

It'll take awhile to turn all the characters into cats but i am determined

It'll just probs be slow

Everything is the same in this au, just everyone is cats. They can still build, the can still row boats, they can still sword fight

Theyre just cats

I have listened to every saga so many times just to imagine the characters as these feline creatures, I cant get enough of it

back on ithacas shores finally. finally after a decade of war and a decade more of misery, shes home

nearly faints when she sees telemachus, now a grown man, spitting image of his father, but with her eyes.

disguised as an elderly handmaiden of the palace (courtesy of athena) she watches in horror as women from all over the kingdom throw themselves at the feet of her husband. some of them she knew in infancy.

the audacity and shamelessness of these women, these girls, almost makes her wield her sword right there and then

tele gives her a quick rundown of the past 20 years of waiting and rejecting their advances and putting up with their threats.

ody recognises the way his wife carries herself despite the aged and frail body he sees before him. but he knows. he knows.

some of the women took their vessels into the blazing sun and tried to collect what little water would evaporate

in vain however, the best of them was barely able to provide more than a sip of water

there was less than half an hour till sundown and the women were beginning to get hysterical, for the penalty of losing was to pay with their lives.

a hooded woman emerged from the crowds having watched the events of the day from the guidelines. planning. plotting

they laugh at her when she reaches for a chalice of her own what with the 10 minutes of daylight they have left

in full view of the congregation she removes her cloak, raises her sleeves and ties her hair up in one swift motion

odysseus can barely contain himself. thats his penelopes hair pin, thats his wife. thats her. shes home.

the sun is starting to set, yet penelope with the ease of dew drops rolling off a petal, lifts water from the one cup, high into the air for everyone to see, and guides it to the glass vessel provided.

her disguise is finally removed and telemachus throws her her sword, brandishing one of his own

jaws drop to the ground and heads soon follow

nothing keeps the romance alive quite like murder folks

you can guess what happes next lol.

athena returns as patron goddess and forbids any sort of retaliation against the bloodshed

zeus himself lights up the evening skies and fear settles into the hearts of those who dare to defy (ody was an excellent host for 2 decades hes earned it)

everyone collapses, family fluff n feels, more tears and snot (possibly more)

ithaca celebrates for a week the return of their beloved queen and a feast is held and festivals decorate the streets and the hearts of the people

bonus: odysseus being a man of his word (lmao) does indeed 'marry' his beloved penelope. they renew their vows

he insists on a wedding lol. telemachus doesnt know if he wants to cry and hug them both or drown himself

shes home. they all are. their hearts and souls have been restored

hiii i know we all hate the telegony up in here but,,, hear me out. au where telegonus is not the outcome of a twisted relationship between odysseus and circe and is just penelope's second son, born after odysseus left for war.

now telemachus has a little brother! :D fun silly sibling shenanigans abound! and even more angst as now we have two babies haunted by a man they never knew! yippie!

The Odyssey mentions how Odysseus' line only has one son. Another reason why the Telegony goes against canon and isn't real >:D

Honestly, Odysseus would be fucked up from having a child he never knew about. For years, he has only talked about Telemachus being his son and talking adoringly about him only to realize one he never knew about, who he could never ramble or proudly talk about. I think that would absolutely gut Odysseus. Realizing there was another child he couldn't proudly claim and tell all about. He would probably try to keep her home as long as possible despite being at marriageable age.

Both being Naiad born though would change some things and she might enjoy simply being a naiad full time (that's what Odysseus would probably prefer :P )

In my writing and not an AU, Telemachus' does get a little sister but it's after Odysseus returns. Kind of a miracle as Odysseus and Penelope are around 47-48 when they reunite. So it's kind of scary. (mostly for Odysseus. While he was the hopeful and uplifting one during Penelope's pregnancy with Telemachus, his birth did kind of traumatize Odysseus because of Penelope's recklessness about it. Penelope has to reassure him a lot with the 2nd pregnancy. He's got "I just got back to you and now there's a risk of us being apart again." feelings.)

Also with Telemachus. It's already hard watching his father tell stories to the young children and toss wooden toys to others. Something he so desperately wanted. And now his little sister will get all that? There's a lot of feelings there. :'D He adores her of course but there's some pain there....

I wanted to ask you a deep question about a what if scenario, what do you think would've happened if the suitors successfully killed Telemachus and how would it affect the overall plot, most importantly, Odysseus and Penelope?

Ofc, I'm not Homer so I don't know everything but holy shit. I DO think Athena may have possibly stepped in, or if he was still killed, she would have helped Penelope. (all of them being her faves) If I were to use as an AU in my writing, I'll have to explain somethings :'D

If I were to do this as an AU in my works, I'd probably have her seek refuge with the Naiads, as that already happens in my fics. Odysseus has a shitton of canals in the castle as the reason WHY he partially went to Sparta during Helen's suitors is to get supplies as I plan to have Ithaca and some of the islands he rules over get hit by a minor quake the fucked up the castle. (he already had plans in motion, just needed supplies.) When he met Penelope and learned how she basically needed access to Water always, he sent NEW blueprints/plans back as he wanted to make her happy and give her what she needed. His thoughtfulness eases Icarius and Periboea's worries about him and her going to live on a "rock".

More to it but yeah. It's built in a way where it'd be impossible to go through if you're not a naiad or naiad born as you'd drown...Penelope and Telemachus HAVE found some suitor's bodies in these areas, as the islands don't have MANY Naiad born (especially not at marriageable age. Some naiads, seeing how happy Penelope is and having watched her and Odysseus act, thought "...That sounds nice. Wonder if I could get that." so there are SOME young naiads born eventually on Ithaca)

The pool/canal that's basically in their chamber, needs a special puzzle solved so therefore not even naiad born could get through. (She wasn't completely cooped up. She snuck out through this way to the caves.)

Even then, I plan for her to mention to the beggar that once Telemachus can inherit the throne safely, she'll probably be a Naiad full time as to not get married again. So if Telemachus was killed, she'd do that.

Possibly try to get control over the island in some ways as the suitors will obviously be pissed as "where's the queen?"

When Odysseus comes it's obviously a very...hard moment for them. Odysseus obviously never got to truly meet what his son grew up to be even for that short while... :'D And they'd probably kind of do the same as the Odyssey.

Afterward though? I might rewrite some things and make it so that they're 46-47 instead of 45 when they reunite but idk for sure. An heir is needed though (and even then I do kind of plan to have them have a child afterward as holy shit, the drama??? The mixture of joy and pain each family member has???ksdl SO MUCH FUN TO THINK ABOUT. :'D )

Odysseus and Penelope, being aspec and just straight up not wanting others won't hear anything about concubines just like they did before. He does what he said before Telemachus was born: "I'm ripped up from that Boar, I am to blame. Even if I had others it's not likely. Leave us alone."

Look, they're basically obsessed with each other and also fucked up as hell sometimes. Odysseus killed Astyanax, I think he'd steal a baby so he wouldn't have to be with any other.

Also with Odysseus' trauma from the rapes? He has PTSD and Penelope is really the only one he feels safe around with it. War PTSD is something else entirely but Penelope, the only person he's ever wanted, makes him feel safe. Her reassuring him that she loves him and doesn't blame him, is what helps him alongside time :')

They eventually have an heir but also... Telemachus is constantly on both of their minds. Especially Penelope's as she raised him. :')
