Chapter 17: Alone.
You keep running, never looking back, your hands clasped together, Daryl squeezing yours so hard you feared he might break your fingers, but at no time did you ask him to stop, or to let go, you just kept running beside him, leaving the prison behind you.
Escaping from your home.
The survival instinct is the first thing that activates in both of you. Especially in him. With his mind on autopilot, he tracks and hunts everything he considers edible; squirrels, birds, even snakes. You've never eaten snake before, and it's certainly a morsel you wish you'd never eat again. Ever since the governor knocked down your defenses and destroyed the prison forcing you to run out of there, Daryl hasn't opened his mouth, always stuck in his head, lips pursed tightly together, face transformed into a grimace you can't read. He's dealing with the situation in his own way, or not dealing, just trying to bury it as deep as he can to forget it. It hurts you, you've both lost a lot of dear people, you wish he'd talk to you about it, but it's clearly not in his plans.
"Daryl..." You say one night, as the two of you stand by a fire you've lit, small and almost lifeless, just enough to warm you. "Maybe we should go back..."
He watches you silently as you chew what's left of the snake, you've finished your share, but it hasn't left a good taste in your stomach. You're still weak from the flu that hit you no more than a few days ago, you're stronger, that's for sure, but you still feel a little strange still. He doesn't say anything, he keeps eating and that bothers you, you feel like he's shutting down on you again.
"Daryl..." You insist. "Our companions may be looking for us..."
"There's nothing anymore, we're not coming back." He cuts you off instantly.
"You don't know that..."
"Neither do you." He grunts one last time and lies down on the floor to sleep.
For a moment you're tempted to get up and leave him there, if he doesn't want to find the others, you'll go alone, but not far away you hear thunder rumble and you both look up at the sky. At that time, the weather in Georgia is changeable and unstable, so you soon see the clouds begin to gather and darken. Daryl gets up from the campfire without a word, gathering his things to get going.
"Daryl, wait!" You ask him picking up your stuff as well to run after him.
The storm catches the two of you halfway through, walking through the woods to try to avoid it, but each time the rain is getting heavier, Daryl is ahead at a time and you realize you're having a hard time keeping up with him. The curtain of water is so dense that you suddenly feel alone. Your feet stop, panting and nervously, you look around.
"Daryl?"
But Daryl is not there. You are unable to detect him, between the deafening noise and the column of water that keeps falling on you, you feel isolated, lost, alone. Your pulse starts to race, your mind asks you to calm down and start walking again, but you have turned around so many times that you don't know where you have to go. The sky is so black you can't even be guided by the moon or the sun.
"Daryl!" You scream in a desperate attempt to make him hear you.
Your feet start moving with no concrete direction, the only thing in your mind is that you want to find the archer, make sure he's okay and get out of that hellish rain. It's not cold, but staying too long in the rain, even if it only drops the temperature slightly, could make you sick and that would be dangerous. You press your backpack against your body with all your might wanting to keep everything inside from getting wet. Suddenly, a strong grip on your shoulder startles you, out of instinct you grab your knife and turn quickly to face whatever is holding you, but another hand stops your attack, grabbing your wrist.
"Hey, hey, it's me. It's me." The growl of Daryl's voice instantly reassures you, even though it's still raining cats and dogs, you discover his form in front of you, his hair covering most of his face, but he's still managed to find you.
"I thought I'd lost you!" You shout above the noise of the rain and see him shake his head.
"Come on, I found a place." He tells you and takes your hand, guiding you through the trees and the storm.
You have to admit; he never ceases to amaze you, no matter the situation, Daryl always seems to find a solution, be prepared to deal with it and move on. That survival instinct so characteristic of his. Maybe it's the one good thing the Dixon family was able to teach him. Even if it sometimes came to blows. You take a deep breath walking faster to be almost glued to his back, even though you are holding hands, you still fear you might lose sight of him.
You don't know how long you walk or where to, for you the landscape doesn't seem to change, however, Daryl seems totally focused, with this rain the dead are the least threat, they too suffer the consequences on themselves, the hunter's mind is more concerned about yourselves, clothes soaked to the bone, no food, nothing to build a fire with. He fears you may relapse from your flu and now have nothing to save yourself with. He lost you for a few minutes, confident that you were right behind him, he picked up the pace wanting to find a safe place when he came upon that hut. At first his stomach clenched, it reminded him too much of where he came from, but it was all you had now. He turned to tell you that you would hang out there until the storm stopped and then he discovered he was alone.
Panic became a huge stone in his stomach. He looked around expecting to see you appear at any moment, perhaps protesting that he had gone too fast, that you had almost lost track of him.
Nothing.
His pulse quickened suddenly, breathing agitatedly like a cornered animal, trying to see you through the rain. Suddenly the sensation of the water falling on him chilled, even his skin tingled as if touched by acid. He shouted your name several times hoping for an answer not too far away. But you still did not appear.
Without further thought he entered the forest again, following your footsteps, trying to follow them. He felt stupid for a few seconds because he had never had problems in the forest. It was his best ally. Fuck at eight years old he had gotten lost in the woods and he knew how to get back home by himself, no one noticed his absence. The only person who cared was your sister when she came back to school and asked him how he had spent the weekend. Nothing else.
But at that moment he was not able to think clearly, his mind was divided, wanting to remember the way, and on the other hand just screaming at him:
Find her.
Find her.
Find her.
The anxiety and tension was building by the minute, feeling like he had lost himself.
"Daryl!"
Your voice sounds in the distance, he raises his head like a coyote in search of its prey, not far away, he distinguishes your silhouette not far from where he is, so he runs and grabs your shoulder. He must admit he feels a certain pang of pride when you turn around with your knife raised and he has to hold you by the wrist.
"Come on, I've found a place." He tells you and holds your hand to lead you back towards the hut.
You enter quietly and carefully, in case there is someone or some Walker inside that might truncate your plans, but you are strong, it is abandoned and there is nothing dangerous in it, except for all the dirt that surrounds it, but you are not going to get fussy about that. Daryl secures the doors and windows so that neither water nor cold can get in, also to protect you in case any Walkers show up. You clean the chimney and light a fire to keep warm as well as being able to dry your clothes.
"Look what I found." You say to him entering back into the hut with a box with several jars in it.
"Alcohol?" he smiles seeing the surprise on your face. "I would have been surprised if this place didn't have an illegal distillery," he says.
"Why do you say that?" You look at him curiously putting the box down on the table.
"This shack is exactly like my old man's. He distilled his own alcohol too, in a place like the shed you found."
"Oh..." You whisper suddenly feeling somewhat uncomfortable and sad to make him remember that. "We can wait out the storm a bit and be on our way."
"Nah, the weather's too rough, we'd better stay here until tomorrow. Make sure the storm passes completely."
You nod, crossing your arms not quite sure what to do. Daryl puts his crossbow aside, no longer worried that something might happen to you, everything is secure, the weather will calm down and the dead aren't going to come in. You see him heading down the corridor, curiously you follow him as he enters the different rooms, he seems to be looking for something, he takes several blankets out of the closets and you understand what he is doing, he is looking for dry clothes and something to cover you both and avoid the cold, so you decide to help him, between the two of you, you take out two thick blankets that will protect you from the change of weather due to the rain and some clothes. It's all men's clothing, but you find something that fits your shape, plus a thick, loose-fitting jacket.
"Do you mind if I keep it?" You say to Daryl showing him the jacket.
"Nah, keep it." He shrugs looking sideways at you.
You nod smiling and grab the rest of your clothes to head back towards the fireplace Daryl has lit and decide to undress before your partner returns so you don't put yourselves in an awkward situation. When Daryl returns to the main room where you are buttoning your temporary pants, he too has changed clothes, he is wearing a somewhat tight shirt over his biceps and jeans ripped at the knees, he walks barefoot, leaves his boots by the fire and sits down next to you.
"Do you want me to trim your sleeves?" you offer grabbing a pair of scissors you've found among the kitchen drawers, seeing that he nods.
You stand next to him giving the fabric a little snip before carefully cutting around his shoulder. Daryl's eyes are fixed on the fire, on the line of rope you've made between two chairs in front of the fireplace to place your clothes there, you've even left a hole for the archer's clothes, but he's left them in the other room. His saliva catches in his throat as his eyes search through all your clothes and discover your bra hanging next to your shirt. He tries to quickly avert his eyes from there, but curiosity gets the better of him; it's a basic, flesh colored, thin strapped bra, nothing flashy, which Daryl wants to understand, you're in the freaking apocalypse, who cares what your bra looks like or what color it is? Possibly your thought in looking for it is for comfort to hold your... he needs a second, he shakes his head wiping those thoughts from his mind because if he's honest, he thinks that bra is small for the size of your....
"Fuck..." He growls low and you jump up beside him.
"I'm sorry, did I cut you?"
"What?" He turns his head to discover you still sitting next to him.
"With the scissors... Did I cut you?" You ask him again pointing to the cut sleeve in your hand and the scissors. You wonder where his mind was to be so distracted.
"N-no... sorry, it wasn't that, just..." He shrugs, not sure what to say, he doesn't want to make you feel uncomfortable or have you think he's a pervert.
"Do you want me to cut your hair too?" you joke hearing him huff and turn away from you.
"Drop those scissors, woman." He warns you and a giggle escapes you.
You sit back down next to him and allow yourself to lean against his shoulder as you pick up two vials of the illegal alcohol and offer him one. Daryl is tempted to turn it down, alcohol has never been his best ally and he can be a real dick sometimes, but after everything that has happened to you guys in the last few days, he definitely needs a drink. You clink your flask against his in a toast and take a long swig.
"Shit..." You gasp grimace and cough a little.
"Too strong for you, princess?" he teases giving you the second swig.
"How can you just drink it like it's nothing?" You protest in a thread of a voice that makes him smile.
"I tell you, this place is like my father's old cabin, I'm used to it."
"Show-off." You stick your tongue out at him and go back to drinking. "God, I think my nose hairs are on fire." You confess after holding back a burp.
Daryl can't contain himself and lets out a long, loud laugh at your comment, you mimic him laughing heartily as well. Your body feels relaxed and your head feels a little dizzy, it's possible that the alcohol is taking its toll on your body. You stay like that for a few minutes, without saying anything, just drinking and eating some cans you found in the house, you leaning on his shoulder, he without moving an inch.
"Do you think we'll find them?" you say suddenly, breaking the silence.
"Who?" he asks, disoriented for a moment.
"Rick and the others..." You shrug. "I'm sure they escaped... I'm sure... maybe they went back to the prison..."
"What for? The Governor destroyed everything, it was full of Walkers, plus you don't know who else got out alive... it's stupid to want to go back..."
"But it was... our home, we can't think there's nothing left..."
"It's that there's nothing left! That...drone showed up with a tank and reduced everything to shit, captured Michonne, and Beth..." He bites his lip clenching the vial in his hand.
Daryl and Beth didn't have a great relationship, like with Carl and Sophia, Daryl cared and looked out for her, like the rest, but they didn't usually engage in great conversation, the archer had always had more affinity with Maggie, more trust with Hershel, but that didn't mean he didn't feel for the young woman's death, at the end of the day she was part of the group, she was family.
"I know, she didn't deserve what happened to her... she still had a lot to live for." You feel your voice shake a little and you sniffle through your nose, you're a little drunk, and the alcohol is making you sensitive. "Hey, did you finally tell them what you were working on?" you ask curiously.
Beth's boyfriend Zach was having a game with several other young men inside the prison, since Daryl didn't talk too much about his past life, they were trying to guess things about him, the last time she was attentive to their speculation, Zach was trying to figure out what the archer had worked on. Daryl smiles and shakes his head.
"There wasn't much to tell, I was never anything." He shrugs.
"That's not true..." You set your flask down on the table, Daryl mimics you and you settle back to look at him, he sits up better too and gives you a sidelong glance.
"Yes it is... my whole life I depended on Merle." He shrugs. "I followed him around like a dog looking for his approval." he sighed, beating and biting his lip. "When I met your sister, you, your family, I thought I could change, that I could leave the Dixon stigma behind and be someone, do something, but... then your sister died and I didn't..." He swallows hard, you continue to stare at him, letting him vent. "So I went back to where I thought I was supposed to be, in that crappy cabin with my dad, with Merle, being a Dixon..."
"Daryl that's not true, you're not...like your father. You never will be." You shake your head. "You're a good man Daryl, just because you're a Dixon doesn't mean you won't be, I think that stigma was lost on your father." Try to make him see. "Even Merle, his last will, although stupid and suicidal, was to take care of you and protect you...I never saw him that way because he always seemed willing to drag you into the bad stuff, but I think Merle always tried to take care of you, in his own way, but...I think he was trying." You try to smile to cheer him up a little more. "We all have our bad moments, our dark side, but the important thing is to come out of it and move on and you've done that, Daryl. You need to be proud of who you are."
Daryl needs a moment to process it, he feels a little overwhelmed by your words, but at the same time he feels his heart pounding, that you think that about him, it makes him feel good about himself, it makes him feel different, like he really is somebody. He smiles and stretches his arms towards you, you accept his invitation instantly and hug him giving you permission to kiss him on the cheek, you can feel his skin stretch under your lips in a smile.
"Zach thought I had been a homicide cop." He tells you again, changing the conversation and a laugh escapes you. "What, you think I don't look like one?"
"Yes, of course." You laugh again. "Homicide cop for squirrels." You joke again.
Daryl opens his eyes wide, pretending to be offended by your words, unfortunately you're unaware of the disadvantage you're at right now until Daryl catches your wrists with one hand and starts tickling you with the other. A squeak escapes your mouth, you squirm in his arms, but it's impossible to let go, the archer's grip is firm, though not intended to hurt you, as his fingers slide and sting across your belly and over your ribs sending cramps throughout your body making you giggle and squirm.
"Daryl, stop!" you laugh smacking yourself against his chest.
"Be a good girl and apologize for what you said." He orders you raising his voice a little over your laughter.
"Come on! I just don't..." But another chuckle nips your words in the bud. "Okay, okay! I'm sorry! Zach's right, homicide cop looks good on you!" you laugh and move around trying to run from his hands, Daryl stops his torture and you take a shaky breath.
"Such a good girl." He smiles, voice turning to a growl.
You stare at each other, one hand clinging to your waist as his grip on your wrists loosens. You feel your heart beat a single hard beat before it begins to pound. You see Daryl's eyes dilate but you're sure yours are too. Your hair stands on end as his fingers brush against the bare skin of your waist, his thumb very slowly caressing your side. Daryl releases your wrists completely as he leans into you, you stretch your neck towards him, your noses brushing.
CRACK!
You both jump in place, skin crawling with shock, your eyes looking around you, alert. Daryl gets up like a spring, running away from the situation, making sure everything is all right. You follow shortly after, grabbing his crossbow in case he needs it, using it as a prop to hide the trembling in your knees. Daryl is looking out the window, but seems calm.
"Walkers?" You ask with concern.
"Nah, the storm has increased the wind speed and snapped off a branch, but it didn't break the glass." He shrugs. "The branch strengthens the crystal for us, no problem."
"Well, then..." You rub your lips nervously. "Maybe we should try to sleep?"
"Yes, if the storm has passed tomorrow we'll go out and look for the others." He mutters and you look at him in surprise, then smile.
"Great... good thing we'll be able to sleep in a decent bed for a day." You smile again, but Daryl shakes his head once more.
"Nah, you go and sleep, I'll take first watch."
"But... you said there's no danger... we can both sleep."
"There's no danger, but I don't want to let my guard down either, go and rest." He insists taking his crossbow from between your hands.
"Okay, but let me know to change shifts, you need to sleep too." He warns you. "If you don't wake me up I'll kick you in the balls." You threaten him.
"Okay, now go to bed."
"Well... good night, Daryl."
"Good night, little girl."
You wander down the small hallway to enter one of the bedrooms, the sheets and mattress don't look very hygienic but after spending time sleeping on the floor or in a poorly made tent, that's like heaven. You sigh and lie down on the bed trying to sleep, but your heart is pounding so hard you're afraid you won't be able to fall asleep.
Daryl in the main room sits back down on the floor, leaning against the old worn out couch, closes his eyes and runs a hand over his face. what the hell just happened?
"Shit..." He grunts as he squeezes his crotch with his other hand and feels a cramp of pleasure run up and down his spine.

the spin-off trend needs to DIE asap. for many reasons, but one of them is that there are shows I feel tempted to watch... and then they turn out to have half a dozen fucking spin-offs and sequels and whatnot awaiting, thus complicating things for my damn completionist self xD. like just finish the damn story!! move on!!! let me look at how it all works as a whole!!! THINGS NEED TO END AT SOME POINT TO BE TRULY APPRECIATED!!!!!!
#this is specifically about the walking dead and its gazillion spin offs#(or well. at least those focused on maggie and michone aka the characters I'm most curious about/liked most from what i saw#- well. along with lori but. she's being dead a long time añslkfjaf)#it LOOKS like those are going to be limited mini series but all the articles are ''oh twd universe isn't over!! maybe more shows about#xyz183927 characters will come!!!''#dieeeeeeeeee#talking to the void#my thoughts#the writing tm#fandom nonsense#bitter lau tag

close to home | chapter forty three
close to home | chapter forty three
plot: the reader is brought to her new life at the Sanctuary, and makes a friend that saves her life
series masterlist
Pairing: Eventual Daryl Dixon x f!reader Word Count: 2,232 Warnings: violence, blood, typical twd A/N: thank you for reading!!!
Darkness consumed you once again for many, many hours. You didn’t move from the spot on the floor, curled up in a ball. Your tears, which once were a never-ending wave, finally dried. You were given food thrice a day, so you assumed it had been two days from the six meals you'd eaten. Negan visited one, but you turned your back to him on the floor and refused to talk or move.
You were in and out of consciousness as you fell out of shock, and there were times when your mind hurt so severely you wished for it again.
Glenn’s face was all you could picture throughout the day, and Maggie’s screams haunted you. The guilt you felt about Glenn’s death was consuming. You didn’t know Negan would do that; you just wanted to save Daryl. And it came at the cost of Glenn.
When the door opened, you flinched. You were expecting Negan again, but this time it was someone else. It was a woman. She was carrying a tray of food and sat down on the floor across from you, sliding the tray over.
The food was similar to what you refused to eat earlier.
“I’m Sherry,” The woman said. “It’s nice to meet you, (Y/N).”
You glanced at the woman and sat up. “What do you want?”
Sherry glanced outside at the door, at the man on guard. Then she looked back at you and nodded toward the food. “Negan sent me to talk to you. He’s taken a liking to you.”
“Yeah, well, he can go to hell,” You said.
A ghost of a smile appeared on Sherry’s face before she blinked away the expression. “You need to submit to him. It’s only going to make things worse.”
“Submit?” You said, “What am I, a dog?”
Sherry looked down and slowly shook her head. “No. You’re smart. This favor with him will expire if you don’t use it to your advantage. Come on, I’m going to take you to our room. You can shower and meet everyone.”
You looked at her as if she was crazy, but you could see through the look on her face. She was unhappy. And she was trying to help you. So you took her outstretched hand and stood.
“She’s not hungry right now. I’ll make sure she eats later,” Sherry told the guard, and he nodded to her. What kind of influence did she have over the men?
You followed Sherry quietly down the hallway, after hallway, up many flights of stairs. The area was still a maze to you, and you knew trying to figure it out was pointless. So you focused on the back of Sherry’s head as you walked.
Finally, you reached a long corridor with a few rooms, and she led you to the last one. It opened into a sitting room with a few couches and a minibar in the back and was beautifully decorated. It was much nicer than anything you’d seen at the Sanctuary.
A few women were sitting around the room, all in matching black dresses and heels. They all stared at you as you entered, and you felt out of place. You were grimy and dirty, and you knew the exhaustion and depression were evident on your face. They all looked beautiful. They looked clean.
“This is Amber, Frankie, and Tanya. There are more of us, but they are probably eating dinner downstairs.” Sherry said to you.
“I don’t understand,” You said.
Sherry looked at you, “Follow me."
You did as she asked and was led out of the room and up the hallway. “Mine is across the hall; this one will be yours,” She explained, pushing open a door and leading you into a room.
It was small, and it reminded you of a studio apartment. There was a bed, a mini kitchenette, a sage green recliner chair, and a television set. There were even windows that let you look out around the compound. It was the first time that you got a look at the area.
“What is this?” You asked.
“This is what could be yours if you submit. If you say that you’re Negan.” Sherry shut the door behind you and sat down on the bed. “He wants you to be one of us.”
“One of what?” You asked, wiping your hand along the counter. There was a toaster oven, a deep sink, and a full-sized refrigerator.
“One of his wives.”
Your hand stilled, and you turned back to look at her. “His wives?”
“There’s a group of us. The girls you just met, and a few more you’ll meet later. Negan took a liking to you. He likes your attitude and the way you talk to him.”
“You can’t be serious.” You shook your head. “I would rather die.”
“And Daryl?” Sherry asked, “What about him? Are you prepared to let him die? He’s here.”
“What?” Your fingers twitched.
“Negan took him. I overheard him talking to Dwight about wanting Daryl to work for him. He knows you care for him, that he cares for you. That will be a weapon.”
You leaned against the counter and crossed your arms. “He’ll kill Daryl if I don’t marry him?”
A ghosted look crossed Sherry’s features. “It might not be that. But it’ll be something. All of us… we all needed something we couldn’t get, so we married him.”
Your fingers twitched, and you felt tears burning your eyes. “If I say yes, how will I know he won’t hurt him?”
“Negan’s a man of his word,” Sherry said. “I know it doesn’t seem like it. But he is. (Y/N), I want to help you. I know what you’re going through. When he comes to you tonight and asks you who you are, just say you’re Negan. You’ll be treated good by him.”
Your stomach flipped, and you felt bile rise. You rushed to the garbage and emptied the contents of your stomach. Sherry was by your side instantly, pulling back your hair and rubbing your back.
“I know, I know.” She whispered to you. “Dwight was my husband before and after. But I had to marry Negan to save him. I live with it. So can you. If he loses interest, he won’t kill you. You’ll be a worker, working for points and barely making it. Just say yes, (Y/N).”
You were crying as you knelt back, wiping your mouth with your hand. “What are they doing to Daryl?”
“Whatever it takes to break him. Marrying Negan will be the only way you might be able to help him. I'm sorry, (Y/N).”
***
Sherry took you to the bathrooms and waited for you to wash up. She gave you one of her dresses and a matching pair of heels and then helped you get ready to see Negan. You felt sick. You felt like throwing up again and again, but you could only focus on Daryl.
Of course, you were going to do whatever you needed to do to keep him safe. You would be Negan’s wife if it meant Daryl would live. That was what you could do for him. You knew Daryl wouldn't break. You knew he would rather die standing than submit. So you had to do what little you could to protect him. If he were to die, if you lost him... you'd never recover.
You were sitting in the wives' room with the others, partially listening as they spoke. They didn’t talk about anything substance, and they all had a drink except Sherry. You knew Negan would be here any minute, and you were anxious.
When the door opened, he walked in, and all the girls dropped to their knees. You looked at them for a few seconds before slowly doing the same.
“Ladies,” Negan said, and they all moved to stand up.
You did the same and glanced at Sherry. She gave you a nod of encouragement.
“Oh my goodness,” Negan exclaimed as he walked around to the couch toward you. “Did you do all this for me? You shouldn’t have, baby,” Negan said.
You stayed silent and slowly raised your head, meeting his gaze. Negan stared at you with that smile that made your skin crawl, and you brought your shaking hands together in front of you.
“Who are you?”
Your mouth was dry, and you felt dizzy. “I’m-I’m… I’m Negan.” You said, closing your eyes for a moment. The words were ash in your mouth, and you wanted to take them back, but not at the cost of Daryl’s life.
Negan looked at Sherry for a moment and then turned back to you. “Well, I guess I gotta ask the only other question that matters. Will you be my wife, baby?”
“Yes.”
Your lips trembled as he approached you, and you prepared yourself mentally for the kiss he was heading towards. But at the last second, he changed direction and kissed your cheek. “Welcome to the family, baby,”
When the doors shut behind him and he was gone, your knees went weak, and you fell back onto the chair, sobbing. Sherry came over to you and wrapped her arm around you. “You did good, (Y/N), you did good. It’ll get better.”
***
The following day was the first time that you saw Daryl. You’d been pacing your room repeatedly, heels clicking and hurting, when you heard a commotion outside. You had run to your window to see and saw him.
It looked like he had almost escaped but was caught. And your eyes filled with tears when you saw Negan approach him with the bat. Your hands shook against the glass, and you wanted to scream at him.
But Negan didn’t kill him. And you knew Sherry was right.
When Negan left, and the group of saviors advanced, you couldn’t stand watching them beat Daryl. You had to look away for a few minutes and then watched them drag his body back inside to a part of the compound you knew you couldn’t reach.
***
Later that day, Sherry gave you a tour of the Sanctuary. You knew the floor you were on after walking back and forth, all the rooms belonged to the wives, and Negan was on this floor as well, but you didn’t know where.
But she showed you other areas. You learned where Negan’s men were mainly housed, but it was spread out, and there were rooms in between that she didn’t show you.
Sherry took you to the bottom level, where you saw just how many people lived and worked in the building. She showed you the trading post and walked with you around the floor.
“If you see something you want, just go up to the table and take it. You don’t wait in line,” Sherry told you.
“What?”
She looked around the room and spotted a table where one of the baker’s tables was. The line wasn’t long, and most workers couldn’t afford the points needed to buy them. But the saviors made the baker do it anyway.
“Come on,” Sherry said.
You followed her to the table, hesitantly waiting behind her as she grabbed an entire pie from the table. Without saying anything, she turned to you. “We take what we want when we want.”
You didn’t respond as you followed her to what looked like a cafeteria. There was a mix match of tables, with a few people eating. Sherry made you sit and wait and then came back with two forks.
“You’re one of Negan’s wives now,” Sherry told you. “We have full access to anything we want. If you want it, you need to take it. We’re untouchable.”
You watched as she started eating, and when your stomach growled, you copied her actions. It wasn’t the best pie you’d ever had, but it was better than anything you’ve eaten since the end of the world.
“Why do you do it?” You asked, “You see how these people live.”
“Because we can.”
“And what do we do in return? Besides dressing like this.”
Sherry’s eyes glazed over, and she forced herself to eat another piece. “You’re expected to do what wives do.”
You nodded slowly. “I’m going to have to fuck him.”
“He’ll give you an adjustment period. But eventually… we all have to.” Sherry said sadly.
You shook your head and forced yourself to eat a few more bites. Between the two of you, nearly half of it was eaten in a few minutes.
Someone sat at the table across from you, and you and Sherry jumped. You could tell from the look on her face that this wasn’t usually for her. “Jake, what do you want?” She asked him.
The man--Jake--ignored her and stared right at you. “My brother was in that outpost you gunned down.” He said.
You swallowed the lump in your throat and straightened your back, not allowing him to frighten you. “That sucks,” You said.
Jake chuckled and shook his head momentarily before standing up and walking away.
Sherry grabbed your arm and looked at you. “You need to be careful. You’re untouchable now, but that doesn’t mean people won’t try. And stay away from Jake. He’s not someone you wanna be around.”

Top 5 favourite writers atm? I need new fic recs 😭
oh hiii, i'm so glad you asked me! i only read twd related stuff, but here's my list
the first author i read here was the main reason i wanted to make this acc, so i could read everything. that author is @naughtyneganjdm and whatever fic you read is awesome! But my faves are 'The guest' and 'Arcadia'
@violettwrites another great writer. everything she does is amazing, you can't miss her work. the tp!daryl series is just *chef kiss* but also her one shots are just a work of art, believe me.
i'm currently reading their 'Skeletons' series and it's an amazing story, it also follows the lines of the show in great detail. if you enjoy slow burn, @the-name-is-z is your writer!
@angelwings-crossbowstrings has been my comfort writer for a while. if i don't know what to read, i go to her profile and re-read anything i've already read, it never gets boring and it feels like reading it for the first time all over again. 'And baby makes three'? my fave mini series.
@daryl-dixon-daydreams is an author i discovered kind of recently, but i've already read most of her work. I'm obsessed with 'Bad Medicine' and 'Sacrifice'.
and since my obsession -besides twd- is pedro pascal, let me tell you that the best author for pedro's characters is @stylesispunk. you're gonna love her writing, i'm sure. 'Did the love affair maim you too?' deserves a nobel prize.
also, i'm currently reading an ongoing series, but i promise it's GREAT if you enjoy a good oc. @thevegandarkelf's series 'Finding me, finding you', you can't miss it.
I kinda cheated and it wasn't just 5 writers lol but i hope i was helpful 🤍

Goodnight, love.
As of the 31st July 2023, this blog is officially closed.
It's been a long hiatus, but I've finally reached the point where I can look back at my catalogue of work and the amazing people I've met on here and be satisfied with making it permanent.
At the time of writing this, I currently have 3,810 followers who I truly, whole-heartedly appreciate. I have 10 completed series; 17 completed mini-series; 61 one-shots and more drabbles than I can possibly even count. And I'm done. I just don't have any more stories left to tell.
I've cleaned up the blog a little, so you'll notice that the ongoing series I was working on have disappeared. I can't leave them on here unfinished - it will drive me crazy. But I will leave this page up so that there's still an archive of my work for anybody that wants to read it from time to time.
And you'll still be able to find me over on my primary, @hanaissunshine, if anybody wants to keep in touch 🖤 and also over on @a-new-superhero where I'm most active these days.
I still love TWD. Daryl Dixon is my forever comfort character, and I'm excited to watch the spin-offs and keep up with the diverging storylines going forward. But this is a chapter that I'm comfortable closing.
Thank you so so so much for all of your support over the years. It has meant the absolute world to me.
Take care and remember, we're the ones who live...

This Amazing Journey
This song has been on repeat for me after watching this episode because it makes my heart full just like this show has. No words can expressed the love I have for Rick and Michonne. I remember vividly the days where I would point out their chemistry to my friends and they thought I was nuts but I always knew that these two were brought into each other lives for a reason and that reason was love. Pure unconditional love. This mini series gave me everything I wanted and more. There are so many lovely richonners out there that have echo my same sentiments so I won’t repeat much. I will say that this is the true series ending for me.
The show started with Rick looking for his family and ended with him finding not only his family but the happy ending he ultimately deserved. As far as Michonne goes she deserves every bit of love, peace and happiness and to see that shown to her by Rick ten times over brought tears to my eyes. Regardless of what anyone says about this show I’m left feeling something that I thought I would never feel when it comes to TWD and that is satisfied. Thank you Andy and Danai for making this happen and for advocating for your characters. Without you guys love and dedication to your craft, this show would have never happened and we wouldn’t have Richonne.

⚔️The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live ⚔️
You will never be able to satisfy your family base, no matter how well you try, there will always be those who complain.
X Formerly Known as Twitter 🐦 some fans of the series or whomever is left,or just found TWD on streaming are whining about "not enough CRM".
Seriously?
Long time fans have always wondered about who was flying the black helicopter back in season one or season two,it's been so long I can't even remember when Rick saw the helicopter.
But,it wasn't something we harped on especially after Rick was assumed DEAD after the bridge blew up,then to see him in one of the black helicopters being flown away.
Rick has always been "I need to get BACK to my FAMILY!"
In the beginning it was Lori and Carl.
In the end it was Michonne and Judith (he didn't learn of his son R.J until Michonne and himself) was reunited.
If Scott Gimple was serious about the CRM backstory he would have made that "The Walking Dead:World Beyond" a mini-series about CRM from season one,not focus on the group on season two.
No one was interested in a Walking Dead mini-series about teenagers, young adults and how they were coming to grips with a "zombie apocalypse".
That's why there were kids, teenagers and young adults in The Walking Dead and Fear The Walking Dead, fans did not want to watch a series devoted to them, since we already had them.
Out of three mini-series for the franchise,The Ones Who Live was the best, they gave us the ending we always wanted for Rick and Michonne.
Andrew Lincoln's special message to the fans of The Walking Dead.
P.S,
I think the stunt people from the original series might be looking for royalties, for "reused or recycled stunts" .

Honestly, the best thing about ep 5 was how happy rick makes michonne and i still do not understand the decision to jump 6 YEARS into the future after the bridge, actually it is kind of amazing that out of many twd and gimples strange writing choises rick and michonne's relationship remains unscaithed even in the mothership show, i've been rewatching on a loop all of their scenes and it is incredible that there is always very clear emotional and logical throughline in their relationship. In the words of the famous rick grimes, how did we get so lucky?
Hey Anon,
We got lucky because we fell in love with characters who were also loved by their talented actors. And even as their careers grew and moved on they stayed committed to only telling the story they wanted to tell.
Artists say make art for yourself. Write the story, make the movie that you'd want to watch. That is what The Ones Who Live is. It is the moments, the conversations, the stories, the conflict that Andy and Danai wanted to see. You can tell in the "behind the scenes" interviews with Gimple when he's uncomfortable with the story, it's not what he would have written. Take EP5 where he points out that the engagement/commitment ceremony "was driven by Danai as a story idea."
I greatly appreciate Gimple giving credit where it is due, but I think it shows the difference between a Gimple production vetted by AMC executives and our series which was protected by Danai at every level. [I think Andy was fine with anything just as long as he got to makeout with his TV Wife in every episode.]
I'm allowing this mini-series to erase seasons 9 through 11 for me. Because ultimately I felt betrayed by the writer's room. Every single storyline either abused Michonne's humanity, called into question her choices, and subjected her to cruelty unmatched by any other character. The most poignant example - compare how the community came together for pregnant Lori, pregnant Maggie, and not for pregnant Michonne. How everyone questioned her leadership. Later as a send off for the character, how she was entrapped and subjected to horrible hallucinations of what if she [was a completely different person, with completely different values and motivations] and was a Savior. THAT was her send off, plus leave your kids during a building war with the Saviors.
The TWD writers loved making an example of Michonne. Forcing her to fight harder for community, acceptance, because she was a strong, Black, female leader. I think part of the time jump was avoiding her vulnerability. Her exhaustion at feeding, raising, and being emotionally available to her kids [or not]. To be fair, they did the same with Maggie, can't be in mourning, can't be motherly. If boys can't relate then it can't be in the show.
That realness about Michonne, the need for love, EMOTIONAL safety, and joy, while simultaneously being the best fighter, survivor, leader - that is what Danai wanted to give us.
And even further, vulnerability, emotional availability is a strength in TOWL. Jadis. Pearl. Rick. They make bad decisions to run away from their vulnerability. But emotional connection and the need for it "cannot be denied." Michonne said that in EP4. Jadis and Gabriel showed that in EP5.
TOWL is in dialogue with the TWD mothership. It's saying living for our heros is more than safety. more than toughening up through trauma. more than moral tests of right and wrong. more than soldiering, rebuilding, working, farming, shopping.
Living is also tender, fragile, soft. Everyone, in every age, including Rick and Michonne deserve to prioritize being cherished, dear, vulnerable.
The CRM treating vulnerability as the enemy is their weakness (as seen in Fear the Walking Dead and The World Beyond) and will be their downfall.
#que Seasons of Love from Rent#thanks for the ask!#sorry for the long post I'm in my feels tonight about what could have been in TWD and what was rescued in TOWL

This post contains spoilers for twd; Daryl Dixon! If you haven't finished the first season, then please do not read this post!
I also want to give a warning about talks of self harm and suicide (something the show didn't do, which pisses me off), so please be cautious. That being said, if you haven't watched the 5th episode yet, please be cautious of this as well.
I just finished watching the season final and holy shit CAROL IS BACK IM SO HAPPY
If she actually manages to make it to France and track Daryl's ass down then she is officially a better tracker then Daryl lmao
I hope she does find him and she's able to bring him back home, because the last episode genuinely had me questioning Daryl. SURELY he's not thinking of staying in France??? Surely the writers aren't stupid??? EVERYONE, me included, wants to see Daryl reunite with his family, and most importantly, Rick, who we know is alive and HOPEFULLY will return home. Carol said over the radio that someone came back, and I'm really hoping that it's Rick and Michonne.
They all deserve to be together again, and I'm genuinely gonna be pissed if Rick doesn't come home and Daryl stays in France 🙃
I personally don't think Daryl would do that, it's just not like him to replace and forget his first family. Like, it's great that he found a possible love interest and another kid he cares about, but I hope he doesn't stay. Maybe he could talk them into going with him? Idk I hope they work something out. The relationships he built with them is cute, heartwarming, and I don't want to see them separate but I REALLY don't wanna see him stay either.
Another thing I want to talk about is the ending of the last episode. Okay, I know they can't show Rick with Carol (if he came home) because that would probably end up spoiling the new Rick and Michonne series. But we all know that Rick would have went with her to find Daryl, his brother, just like Daryl would and HAS done for him. So that makes me wonder if Carol lied to Daryl to try and get him to come home? But again, I'm hoping that Rick and Michonne came home. 🤞
I will drop this series so fast if they don't reunite. I know that probably makes me sound like a brat who didn't get her way, but it's the ending that the series and the characters deserve, and there's no better way to end it in my opinion. That's how it should have ended a long time ago, and don't get me wrong, I love all the new series they're coming out with, but it kinda feels like they're drawing out the series as long as possible so they can milk it dry. Hopefully this doesn't take the series down a shitty road in the end.
Oh, and can we talk about Isabelle in episode 5? And her almost suicide attempt?? I know the show is all kinds of fucked up and I think we've seen shit like this before and should expect it but the wrist cutting was a trigger for me. I didn't like it and I wasn't expecting her to almost go through with it. What was the fucking point of even showing it, she didn't even pierce her skin (and no, I'm not saying she should have for the scene to make sense, I'm glad she didn't) If there was a trigger warning, I sure didn't see it, but they probably should have considered putting one. Idk, maybe I should have expected it from her, considering she's tried it before in her past, but I didn't think that information was a clue that she would even think about trying it again later. Needless to say, I'll be more cautious whenever the next season is out, that's for sure.
Sorry that half of this was a bit of a mini rant, I wanted this post to be more on the positive side, because I genuinely enjoyed the first season, but the ending was questionable and it ticked me off a bit at the slight possibility that Daryl may end up staying in France.
On a more positive note, I thought the super strength that some of the walkers had made them more scary, and it was cool to see Daryl fight them. He's such a badass!
I said "what the fuck?" more than once with these new walkers lmao. That one on the boat that Daryl was being held captive on scared me when he started ripping that man's guts out and just- flinging them instead of eating them. THAT'S NOT NORMAL WALKER BEHAVIOR WHAT IS THIS DEMON. The black eyes even make them look like demons from Supernatural. 😭
Oh, and I wasn't expecting Daryl to yell at Laurant the way he did, which really broke my heart. I bet those were things his dad said to him when he was a kid. Although I kinda wished to smack Daryl, I guess I can't blame him too much. We learn from our parents, and Daryl learned how to take his anger out on kids from his dad, which is all the wrong ways (you're never supposed to take your anger out on kids, your own especially). I'm just glad Laurant forgave Daryl, because he didn't mean it. And no, I'm not saying it's okay what Daryl said, so don't come at me because I'm not defending Daryl's actions here.
Well, I guess that's it for now until next season. Share your thoughts and opinions if you want, I'd like to hear them!
