Legends and myths about trees
Legendary tree deities (14)
Nut – Goddess of the sky & tree in Egyptian mythology
Nut the sky goddess was the most common tree goddess.
A goddess, part woman, part tree on a 21st Dynasty cartonnage. This is a tree goddess. Usually the goddess is Nut or more rarely Hathor or Isis. The tree was usually the sycamore fig (though the word for sycamore, nht, was used as the general word for ‘tree’). Often the goddess is showing pouring out refreshing liquid into the hands of the deceased while their ba (in the form of a bird with human head) stands close by or flutters in the branches.
In ancient Egyptian mythology, Nut (pronounced “newt”) is the goddess of the sky and heavens. She was the daughter of Shu, god of the air, and his wife Tefnut, goddess of moisture and rainfall. Her brother and husband is Geb, god of the earth. It was believed that Geb's laughter created earthquakes and that he allowed crops to grow. When they were embracing, their father Shu forcibly pulled them apart and heaven and earth were separated. This myth is one of the most famous in Egyptian mythology, and the image of Shu standing over the lying Geb and supporting Nut is well known.
Nut became pregnant with five children and Ra, god of the sun, forbade her from giving birth during the official calendar year. The ancient Egyptian calendar consisted of only 360 days in a year, had 12 months of 30 days and 24 hours within those days. She asked for help from Thoth, god of the moon, scriptures, sciences, messenger and recorder of the deities, master of knowledge, and patron of scribes. It has been said that Thoth was secretly in love with Nut and didn’t hesitate when she asked for his assistance.
Thoth was able to play dice with the moon and granted Nut five extra calendar days in order for her to give birth to the five children: Osiris (god of the underworld), Isis (goddess of healing, magic), Seth (god of war, storms), Nephthys (goddess of the night, mourning), and Horus the Elder, the falcon-headed god. These children were not welcomed and were considered intruders in the divine community.

What the fuck is wrong with people
Why do things have to be destroyed to get attention? There are other ways. This is just so sad. First The Sycamore Gap Tree and now Stonehenge.

What’s your favourite type of tree?
Every time I think about sycamore trees, I think of him.
Like the time we've woven together. Rough patches, soft whispers.
Branches reaching out and intertwining, yet sometimes swaying apart.
Yet the roots that are deep and steadfast remind me of our bond.
Like sycamores, we bend, we sway, but never break.
In this forest of life hand in hand we'll create our own ecosystem. A testament to growth, to change. Resilient, ever-reaching, forever intertwined.
At the same time, his beauty resembles a sycamore tree as well.
I could write about him for hours on end.

I cannot believe some person(s) have felled the Sycamore Gap Tree at Hadrian's Wall.
Tumblr media
Such a crime, to nature, humanity, poetry, art, history.
It's left me mainly without words, it's such tragedy? Yes I have shed some tears over this tree.
I cannot stop thinking about a many-hundreds-of-years-old tree and the life it has had, the things it has seen, the air it has breathed, the rains it has tasted, the winds that caressed it's foliage, the hands it has felt hug its trunk, the animals it has sheltered, the dry summers it burned, the long winters it suffered, the many seasons it went through yet endured, the thousands of lives a tree has touched & been touched by, where we have scattered ashes of our loves, brought new life to see, you could have a picnic if you wanted, pop the question if you pleased, it really was a place where you could just be.

All of it, gone. I'm so sorry❤️

Isaiah 41:19-20
“I will put the cedar in the wilderness,
The acacia and the myrtle and the olive tree;
I will place the juniper in the desert
Together with the box tree and the cypress,
That they may see and recognize,
And consider and gain insight as well,
That the hand of the Lord has done this,
And the Holy One of Israel has created it.

Before I came to know Christ I loved nature. I felt so much peace in places where trees and water and animals were and lived. I know many who feel this peace without recognizing it is God in every place like this. It is he who made these beautiful places and spaces. You are seeing a living God in all of it.
“He counts the stars and calls them all by name”
Psalm 147
Imagine this when you are struggling. Think on it. Our God literally knows and has named each and every single star. Do you realize how many there are? He takes the care to know each of them. To name them and place them. How much more do you think of how he must care for you?
To know each of us. Care for us. Love us.
You are never alone. You are always protected.
Our God is an awesome God
A living breathing God.
Jesus Christ is just one of his names.
I bow in love and adoration for all of time.

I was really upset by the news of the Sycamore Gap Tree in Northumberland. Though we are miles upon miles away, I said goodbye through a drawing on an old book page 🍂

Ode to the Sycamore Gap tree
For a tree that stood so tall and broad,
Alone against the gap of sky,
She never need fear the loneliness of her birth,
For her visitors were never shy.
Those finding love in life long proposals,
Or letting lost love in ash form fall,
Many gazed up at her greenest and most beautiful of leaves,
As they walked down old Hadrian's wall.
Photographs in the many thousands,
Famous skyline filmed to keep,
She was the soul of every Northumbrian,
The sacred tree to which we now all weep.
Felled in a senseless destruction,
Taken from us far before her time,
She lays where so many footsteps have trodden,
A death, a murder, a crime.
Now a nation rises in anger,
Against the one who ripped her down,
But we will remember her as the most peaceful of places,
Where the nations heart was found.
