(SEMI) CHARMED KIND OF LIFE: EPISODE 3, PART XXVI. “GENESIS IN BLACK”
Transcript Below.
ERWIN: 3) This has something to do with the warlocks and the Ordo Secundi Mortis – necromancer secret society, before you ask what that is. Remember in Core Magical History 101 and 102, the discussion around the topic of black magic being outlawed and made punishable by death after the whole giant magical war that caused the Porphyral Vale to split happened? That was the first iteration of The Ordo Secundi Mortis that started that shit, they spawned the vampires when they tried to wage a war on the Sages in an attempt to overthrow them. Their leader, some pompous piece of rich douchebag named Vladislav Straud, was fucking around in warlock stuff on top of necromancy, trying to make himself and his whole entourage immortal and rumor has it that some of them succeeded, but not the way they hoped. Anyway, when he was in his prime of practicing black magic, according to this book I found, Straud had a certain type of victim, sacrifice, whatever, that he preferred. Young, dark haired, dark eyed Casters that hadn’t been fully trained into a discipline yet: he picked out those particular physical attributes since– this is really fucked up– he liked the way they looked when their bodies were transformed into an undead state, and he chose the age group because their magic was more raw, potent, and unpredictable which he would absorb during the death ritual with a spell called “Vitae Sorbere” to make his magic more powerful. Plus, you know, the souls were still relatively fresh for his patron to devour at her leisure – not that he really gave a shit about the souls as much as he did the corpses, ‘cause that’s what he got out of the deal. He turned ‘em into, for lack of a better term, zombies: made them serve in his undead army, bound them to follow his every command, shit that necromancers moonlighting as warlocks do. Where the rest of the warlocks come in is that after the second iteration of The Order had to go deeper underground because The Sages and their army were winning the fight the Ordo picked and started threatening to roast their chestnuts over an open fire and made good on that threat with like 90 percent of The First Order, the other guys who were also doing sketchy shit that could end up with them being sentenced to a weenie-roasting joined up to boost the numbers of their ranks and keep them all from being put up on the Stake.

Hello! Big Bang ask tiiiiiime!
I think you've answered most of the listed questions, so here are a few that aren't on the post if you don't mind. But also, if you haven't answered one and I missed it, consider that one asked as well!
Royai fics can covers such a long range of time! I know your story is pre-canon, but what era of fics do you generally gravitate toward in writing or reading? Pre-canon, during canon, or post-canon? Why? Is it different for writing vs reading?
Can you share another snippet of your story that you like? <3
Thanks for the ask, these are good questions! I'm super excited to read your fic as well!
This is my first time publishing a Royai fic, but now that I think about it, of the ones that I've semi-written or outlined in my head, they tend to lean pre-canon. As a reader, I'm nondiscriminatory and will read any era and don't really scope out any particular ones, but as a writer I like pre-canon because there's so much freedom there, especially for little one off stories like the one I wrote for the big bang where I don't want to worry to much about how it would fit into the canon narrative, especially when it comes to around the Promised Day, where the timeline is tight and our beloved babies are separated </3 I do think that if I do a longer form Royai fic in the future it will either be primarily pre-canon or an AU fic of some sort. As a reader, though, I love it all.
As for a passage to share...this one is interesting:
Roy was no more impatient than any young man, especially one on track to climb to the position of general before he hit thirty. But he was different. Riza knew he was different, and had to keep believing he was different.
He let out a wry huff. “Your father of all people used to tell me to be patient, when I was his student.” Riza was tempted to tell him to stop discussing this, as ears could be anywhere, but this was probably the safest place to talk freely during work, and they hardly saw each other outside of work–very painfully and very deliberately.
Thank you again for the ask!

I think Fiona's betrayal makes way more sense and fits into the narrative better if you simply bump it to after the destruction of Knothole.
Like, in the actual comic it kinda comes out of nowhere, and it's heavily tied into the romance plot tumours and Issue 150. Fiona's actual character is barely important, she just disappears for five issues and comes back with a new personality, her old trauma in high gear again (but girl, if you're mad at Sonic for abandoning you, why the feck are you running off with Second Sonic Who Is Worse?), and an ideology that makes zero sense with her history ("You can't count on anybody" says character who has literally never been independent and will never become independent).
And the fallout is incredibly understated and after literally two issues nobody cares any more except Tails. And he's done caring after 179 closes.
Betrayal is supposed to be impactful.
But if you shuffle the order of the stories around, don't even change the actual content, then the whole thing becomes a buttery-smooth consistent arc and Fiona's character development, while not a good thing in the long run (Scourge literally would've killed her in 196 if his plan had succeeded, she traded the stunningly mediocre partner that was Sonic for a literal monster), actually makes sense and is front and centre in her story, instead of what we got, which is "Fiona ascends from background character to weird love interest to an accessory for Scourge who is defined entirely by Scourge."
Fiona being driven by her trauma to hate Sonic for leaving her behind is a reasonable angle, it's where she started in the Knuckles comic, but it's been so long since that was relevant to her character that dredging it up years after the fact in a different book would only ever be jarring. Unless, say, history repeated itself and all those wounds got opened up again.
Eggman drops out of the sky, razes her home to the ground, and shoves her in a prison to be used as fodder for one of his sick creations, just like Robotnik did all those years ago. Only this time, the prison is so small that she can barely even move, and the machine she's going to be fed into is much worse. It'll kill her, twice over, draining her life-force to power Eggman's machinery and wiping her mind for no reason other than "Eggman's a sadistic asshole."
She gets to see the effects up-close too, via Charmy's brain damage.
And while it's unnecessary, as I think the actual plot of the issues needs no alterations to make sense, you could nonetheless add a small scene during the rescue where Sonic saves Fiona from the Egg Grapes and says he won't make that mistake again. A small hope spot before it all comes crashing down.
Because it does! The arc ends with the Freedom Fighters standing triumphant over a wrecked Egg Beater. They could easily grab Eggman and drag him into the brand-new prison that Nicole put Mogul, Naugus, and the Hooligans in. They have turned their darkest hour into an opportunity to win the war... and they don't take it.
Eggman flies off, clinging to an Egg Flapper and doing the "I'll get you next time, Gadget! Next tiiiiiime!" bit, and the heroes just... stand there.
And that's where the (hypothetical) hope spot gets dashed. Fiona, already uncertain of her place in the team after 160-1, loses faith in them completely. She just lived through the worst experience of her life again and the heroes of this world are doing nothing to prevent another repeat.
It even makes her "You can't count on anybody" line actually have some weight. She genuinely feels like she's been failed by them, that she put her trust in these people and they still turned on her at a moment's notice, and they're not doing enough to actually save the world. It's like Scourge says in 172- she "wishes [Sonic] had a backbone."
And then, after all that, there's the big Fiona Betrayal Issue except now it's actually about Fiona and not just about giving Scourge a girlfriend, and that's followed immediately by the Sonic vs. Tails issues. There's no time to process what just happened, everyone's emotions are still extremely raw, and it boils over into a fight between brothers that's more about venting all those nasty emotions they've been holding in for a while now. Sonic has been through a lot lately, he just lost his home and repeated one of his few failures, and he's not long lost Tommy too. Tails is dealing with emotions that he's not mature enough to process properly and healthily, he grew up too fast, but not evenly. And at the end of the day, they're both still just kids.
I still think 179's ending is an overall horrible way to to resolve that plot thread, and further reduces Fiona to an object to be fought over, but I'm not heavily changing the content of the issues, only the context.
I've never been a fan of villain!Fiona, I've made that clear in the past. I like it as a step on a journey that results in her healing, but I found its start confusing and messy and the rest of the arc lacklustre and far too focused on Scourge, rather than Fiona herself. But I think putting it in this order makes it flow a lot better for me.
If I write Sonic stuff again, I'll probably do it with this as a headcanon of what went down in the 170s.

JACKSONVILLE ANGST TIIIIIIME 😈😇 Maybe I enjoyed writing this chapter a little too much 😌
Story summary: An early season 2 P/O AU in which Peter and Olivia cross ‘that line’ a bit sooner than they do on the show. Goes (slightly) off canon after 2x05 Dream Logic. This is a slow burn, but with smooches. Follows most of season 2's storyline, although it starts deviating as their relationship changes.
Tumblr media
There is something…off about that building. Olivia knows it the moment she finds herself staring at its mismatched façade, soon confirmed by the horrific sight inside, most people within the structure having fused together. It goes beyond that, though. The very air feels wrong. She can’t quite explain it at first, only sense it, every hair on her body standing straight while her palms become clammy with cold sweat, instinctively on edge; triggered. And then, Walter puts it into words. “We are standing in two buildings. One of which comes from the alternate universe.” This is a glimpse of what is to come, if Newton carries on with his plans. Universes colliding, the laws of physics breaking, people dying, their entire world collapsing. A familiar claw tightens around Olivia’s chest at this realization, fueling the dread and guilt she’s been living with ever since she remembered her encounter with William Bell—too late, always too late. She was pulled to that other universe for it, nearly died as a result. And yet, months later, she’s still playing catch up, unable to put an end to Newton’s scheme, their enemy always two steps ahead, forcing her to be purely reactive, all the while knowing this is just the beginning of the atrocities. She’s queasy at the thought of how she spent her evening, so utterly oblivious to the disaster about to unfold in this place, too distracted by her personal life to think about the universal conflict going on—one she failed to prevent. While she was busy letting herself be consumed by Peter, Newton was here, in New York, wreaking havoc. Rationally, she knows there’s nothing she could have done to prevent it. Except that she could have, should have. She should have stopped him weeks ago, when she’d already chosen Peter over the war, the man’s smirk haunting her, as do his words. Now I know how weak you are.

Monday of Appreciation: Part 93
Hello everyone, Smite here!
My backlog is fucking huge and enormous and long and... on one hand I'm happy that everyone is writing so much, but that also means that it will take tiiiiiime for me to get to great stories that are posted now/were posted weeks ago.
Please, do not assume that I did not like a story just because it didn't pop up here. Check my reblogs for great stuff that will probably be featured here someday.
Let's get started, shall we?
-1-
@ov105: Noise ft. Sieun
What a nice love making session. I'm gonna be honest, when it comes to StayC, I only paid attention to Isa and then Lalabs, so the rest never really crossed my mind. Good thing that I read this, Sieun is hella adorable and I'd surely read BOTH parts if I were you!
-2-
@writerpeach: Never Safe For Work ft. Gahyeon
That a fic with the abbreviation NSFW really is NSFW should come to no surprise. What should also be no surprise is the fact that Peach once again fucking delivered. Gahyeon's cock sucking lips get to cock sucking early, I'll just tell you that, and you'll be out of breath before you can even reach the end of this 14k long masterclass!
-3-
@ggidolsmuts: Eat Your Greens ft. Yubin (Oh My Girl)
You can ignore what kinds of greens get eaten (out) in this fic and just follow the instructions in the title for a healthy life style... or you're like me and enjoy Yubin, a very hot woman I should pay more attention to.
-4-
@fayeforrosie: Don't Make A Sound ft. Yunjin (Female Reader)
I saw this part 2 (!!!) pop up on my board and went dead after reading it. Glad that I can find other great writers on this writing different kinds of stuff (though Yunjin x Girls seems very... obvious xD) and thoroughly enjoy this. Give it up for Faye, she writes some good stuff!

thoughts about chris being young and weird: a lot of the people who know him from college, not hockey players say that hes a good human being, just like a decent guy but definitely a weirdo, peep the replies/qrts in this thread (theres another tweet i cant find rn) + this which at the tiiiiiime were juxtaposed directly the the rumors of kevin hayes at BC shitting in staircases on campus and being a crazy partyer.
BUT! (tldr bc its a lot)
when he got to the rangers it was still very much a league where the rookies were treated like rookies and not immediately accepted. theres a few different quotes where he mentions being so comfortable around cam talbot bc that was the only dude his age when he first broke in. he was so awkward in interviews tho shfjsjf but he was probably a know it all goofy kid and needed to be knocked down a couple pegs (see: refering to his play as kafka-esque, doing shit like this and this ... and this and that one spittin chiclets story about how he left kevin hayes and keith yandle waiting for him for like 2 hours in their car and then entered without saying a word 😭).
the biggest thing is that somehow, he was a rookie for like 6 years. i am not jokng when i say before they traded mcdonagh and tore the whole team down at the turn of 2018 he was still just the kid, he didnt have to be a leader really because he didnt have the seniority over guys like mac, girardi, staal, hank, even zucc and stepan. i think the summer prior was when he started letting dudes who were just called up stay with him/in his NYC apartment, a few different rookies i cant all remember (he taught brett howden how to cook, adam fox stayed there, later frank vatrano) combined with the blood clot that made him realize he had to be The Guy. since he came back i atleast think that he realizes the clock is ticking on his career so he's been trying to pay it forward by treating the younger dudes right
anyways you made it to the end heres an image of him

OH MY GODRED IS IT FINALLY HAPPENING
Yes! I have finally made some pieces for my ttte gem!au, where they're pretty gem people, like that one 3d anime where everybody's gorgeous but sad things happen alllllll the tiiiiiime. This neat little world has some things like that, but not NEARLY as bad. I mean I'm all for pathos but I'm not a monster who would torture beloved characters. Yikes. If you don't know what I'm talking about, go read Houseki no Kuni online and prepare for Big Bad Moods(tm) and to wonder why the author hurt the baby so
Because I'm an old nerd who grew up with tatmr, I will begin with my two favourite brain synapses Lady and D10, as gem humanoids. If I were still doing gijinkas of the TV trains, they would also generally look like this, and I'm real happy with the hair designs. And the poses are sort of based off of one piece i made before IN A NOTEBOOK THAT WAS BLOODY STOLEN ALONG WITH PAGES AND PAGES OF OTHER ART I MADE, AND WHAT'S WORSE IS THAT INCLUDES THE ORIGINALS OF THE ART I DID POST, ALOT OF WHICH WAS UNFINISHED FGGFSFGHDGDFGGFFSDT guys it was so good I gave Lady a burger king crown to reference her gold funnel it would have been hilarious
Just like the canon, Lady is a big deal and D10 is still trying to destroy her. But the reason why this time around is a little more dramatic and cohesive. There is a clear reason why he hates her, and I wonder if you can possibly figure it out before I reveal it? There's a hint in the picture. How smart are you guys out there ô.ô
In the story, these two are, left to right, Yellow Chrysoberyl and Lady Gold. The gems usually refer to her as "their Lady", with lots of reverence, as she is the oldest living gem on Sodor. As for Chryso, he was a spunky gem even in the earlier days, until he began losing a lot of his crystal - he used to have longer hair. Then, when he lost one of his arms, was suddenly granted a fun augmentation of liquid copper that can morph into anything he wants. But the inclusion was...a bit painful? Sometimes it even shows mild sentience of it's own, and it now treats him like a friend. Though the very first thing it did was morph into a giant machine claw and try to crunch him...it didn't do much though. So Chryso got the idea to call it "Pinchy". But how exactly did he come across it? And what is Lady Gold's involvement?

i have now watched everything on the coe translation channel (so far anyways, they've stopped at hatsutori's flashback currently)
Tumblr media
(no direct spoilers for the dlc just general thoughts)
((i guess this counts as reading log #6 ?))
HATSUTORI'S FLASHBACK WAS KRAZY? his relationship w utsugi is like unbelievably tragic n i have a feeling its definitely gonna get worse/more intense when i see utsugi's flashback
what the fuck is going on w seodore
the different relationships between guys in this series are so intense god damn. if we get a cell character who's explicitly outwardly undeniably gay i think he would blow up the universe (i say this as if i don't already think utsugi is)
also SANEMITSU N REIJI... THE FATHER-SON DUO OF ALL TIIIIIIME REIJI LOVES HIS DAD SO MUCH. I LUV FAMILY 🥹
i wanna see more of the story so much i can't believe how hard it hooked me. i'm absorbing everything into my own ocs as we speak

Season 1 - Also probably nostalgia but OMG the season one statements are so good. And like. I love TMA as a tragedy so this is complicated to say but like yeah it is the one before things go Horrribly Horribly wrong at that makes me attached to it. Season one was the one season that TMA had a chance to be our heroes who are a team against the horrors, rather than everyone fighting each other AND the horrors. And like. I love how TMA turned out (I wish we got to see more of consistently positive character dynamics, sometimes it edges a little too close to grimdark, but I love the kind of story it is) but sometimes I need to find hope in the s1 crew? Also Jon is so snarky in this season. He's awful and it's lovely.
Season 4 - There's Jon and Daisy's friendship and there's jmart getting together and there's Jon and Basira taking the bullet from Melanie and everything she says to Jon after that which is SO good and there's Elias's villain monologue in 160 and!!! omg it's such an emotionally rich season full of interesting character dynamics and moral dillemmas where you can understand everyone's perspective *screams*. The degree to which Basira and Georgie hate Jon in this season is like... not out of character for the most part but undeserved in a way that frustrates me so that can be hard to listen to esp since we're SO in Jon's head but that is kind of every season so ah well. Ooo other good thing in this season is that there are some banger statements. Adelard Dekker's last statement? And Love Bombing? So good omg.
Season 5 - Idk it flip-flops with season 4. Currently it's behind season 4 because the apocalypse statements are really hard for me to get through. They are well written, but it's a combination of them breaking my heart (which is ultimately a great thing and is what gives s5 its impact but means this season is too rich for my blood 80% of the time) and lacking some of the things that I really like about the normal statements. Like. I love the suspense and the supernatural slowly coming in with the normal statements, which is not as much of a thing in the apocalypse when everything is at 100% all the time. And also like. Some of the other statements the normal world part of the statement is as interesting as the supernatural, or it's about how they play off of each other. And for statements like Lost Johns' Cave you get to be brought into a character's hobby or job or otherwise part of their life and see how it works and why they like it and that combination of love and just being privy to this part of the real world you didn't know about is super cool. Which the season 5 statements can't really do that. And they shouldn't- they are incredible, creative, varied visions of hell, they're what s5 needs, I just want to listen to a season 1-4 statement way more often than I want to listen to a vision of hell. Sick village is freaking incredible though I love it. I love season 5, I love Jmart and I love the WTGfs cult and Basira killing Daisy breaks my heart and is so well done. I love that S5 has more banter to counteract how much darker the statements are, too.
Season 3 - I don't dislike it or anything it's just not as good as 1, 4, or 5. it's beating season 2 cause of the Georgie content. Oh and cause of Mr. Spider. And cause of the Unknowing and Tiiiiiim ;-;. (shoutout to 119 for being the ONLY episode with different intro music, that's a gutpunch). And cause of Family Buisiness/Gerry!
Season 2 - definitely some really good statements in s2 (Binary my love) and I like the unhinged supplementals ("I just broke into Gertrude's flat"). The loneliness of Jon's paranoia just really gets to me, and I don't feel like there are nearly as many character interactions I care about in this season. Well. Okay. I guess that's not true I care about a lot of them but Jon pushing people away and his conflict with Tim are both like... depressing in a non cathartic way? I'm sorry I realize this is all coming off as "I don't like sad things" which like. Why am I listening to TMA then. I do like some sad things. I promise.
not a confession exactly but i want to hear someone else's opinion on this
rank the tma seasons from your favourite to your least favourite. this is based off the season as a whole, not individual statements (for example, some of my favourite statements are from season four i just don't like the plot of the season as a whole)
mine:
Season 2 - disagree with me if you like, but i'm right. season 2 is the best season by far. you've got paranoid jon, all the mystery and drama, not!sasha, and michael. what more could you want?
Season 5 - i know i said not to base it off the statements, but i just love how season 5 introduces all these new aspects to the fears. i also really enjoy how different the statements are (stranger slam poetry??? like what??)
Season 3 - honestly i'm pretty neutral about this season. the travelling and live avatar statements are cool but i find the whole buildup to the unknowing boring
Season 1 - i feel like season 1 is underrated honestly. only reason i put it down here is because season 3 is slightly more interesting. it's really close though
Season 4 - oh my god i detest the plot of season four. it feels so weird and rushed all the time. also i hate most of the character interactions within the archives team. whenever i listen to season four i just have to focus on the statements and tune out the plot most of the time, because i think the statements are pretty good at least (mag 129 my beloved)
obviously picking a favourite season is quite difficult and i still really love all of them, but idk i think it's kinda interesting. (5,3,and1 are super close in terms of ranking i kinda like them all equally tbh. i stand by 2 and 4 though)
🗣️
how would you rank them? or just your favourite and least favourite idm
Ohh this is fair
Mine go
Season 5 - I just love the story, the concept, the statements as well. Best season I love it and its a great conclusion to the story imo
Season 1 - Probably nostalgia but its so nice. Its a good season with a good plot, a fun introduction to the characters and overall I love is
Season 3 - ITS SO INTERESTING AND COOL i love it so much its always doing smth and were always learning new things and idk i love it
Season 4 - I love the characters and how theyre explored in this one. This season makes me insane lol
Season 2 - OK SO I dont hate this season or anything like that its just so hard for it to keep my attention. Its good but I just cant deal with it lol
Anyways there :]
