The only child of painters Adela Armstrong and Stanhope Forbes, Second Lieutenant Alexander Forbes- or simply Alec as he was known to his parents, was killed in action Sept 1916.

Often the subject of his parents paintings, like this one done by his mother when he was a boy, Alec was well loved and wildly liked. He was 23 years old.
