Traveling back in time, learning more about #american #history. Today, #stgeorgeisland #florida is home to many proud #trump supporters (with a sprinkling of #biden ones too), beautiful homes and pristine topography. Venture to the island’s east side and absorb the energy of those that made today’s wealth possible. Kingsley, a white slave owner, purchased an enslaved woman and later married her (she later became a black slave owner). From the natives who occupied this land prior to their arrival, to the hundreds who cultivated the hand over the centuries...this land is steeped in heritage. The slave cabins here are more generous than other plantations I’ve experienced. They say Kingsley was more appreciative and kind to his chattel...as he was accustomed to the 3 tier #caste system of #spanish system of slavery. Uh..ok 🙄. This was Spanish land before the Europeans “settled” here using war and disease to destroy the natives. Polygamy, interracial marriage and integration were common practice here. — Everything I think I know about slavery is challenged at every turn here.
