Saint Benedict Joseph Labre
Beggar of Perpetual Adoration 1748-1783 Feast day: April 16 Patronage: bachelors, rejects, mental illness, insanity, the homeless
Benedict Joseph Labre was truly eccentric, one of God's special little ones. Born in France and the eldest of 18 children, he studied under his uncle, a parish priest, to become a priest. He was unsuccessful in his attempts to enter the religious life. Then, at 16 an epidemic, that devastated his town, took even his uncle's life. He became a pilgrim, traveling from one great shrine to another, living off alms. He wore the rags of a beggar and shared his food with the poor. Filled with the love of God and neighbor, Benedict had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and to the Blessed Sacrament.

I want to submit propaganda for José Gregorio Hernández, Óscar Romero, Joseph of Cupertino, and Saint Francis I want to nominate Benedict Joseph Labre, patron saint of the homeless, saint Brother Juniper, who once cut off a pig's foot to help a sick man and was so earnest in that he just wanted to help that the owner of the pig donated the rest of the pig. I have a particular fondness for God's fools. To me, in addition to the offices they officially have, they are patrons of all those neurodivergent, mentally ill, and 'different'
GOD'S FOOLS ARE THE BEST FOOLS.
For real though, as much as I love the intellectual saints, there's something wonderful about the saints that are offbeat and odd and not very bright, but holy.
Votes added and new nominations taken!

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT BENEDICT JOSEPH LABRE The Poor Man of the Forty Hours Adoration and the Beggar of Perpetual Adoration Feast Day: April 16
Benedict Joseph Labre was truly eccentric, one of God's special little ones. Born in France and the eldest of 18 children, he studied under his uncle, a parish priest.
Because of poor health and a lack of suitable academic preparation he was unsuccessful in his attempts to enter the religious life. Then, at age 16, a profound change took place. Benedict lost his desire to study and gave up all thoughts of the priesthood, much to the consternation of his relatives.
He became a pilgrim, traveling from one great shrine to another, living off alms. He wore the rags of a beggar and shared his food with the poor. Filled with the love of God and neighbor, Benedict had special devotion to the Blessed Mother and to the Blessed Sacrament.
In Rome, where he lived in the Colosseum for a time, he was called 'the poor man of the Forty Hours devotion' and 'the beggar of Rome.' The people accepted his ragged appearance better than he did. His excuse to himself was that 'our comfort is not in this world.'
On April 16, 1783, the last day of his life, Benedict dragged himself to a church in Rome and prayed there for two hours before he collapsed, dying peacefully in a nearby house. Immediately after his death, the people proclaimed him a saint.
Benedict Joseph Labre was canonized by Pope Leo XIII in 1881.

Could you please pray for me? I am trying to get through college right now and I've already failed multiple classes and am struggling to not fail them again because of mental disorder issues. I am terrified of being a failure to my parents and I just want to get the certification to get a job in the field I'm looking at (aviation maintenance). I feel very stupid and alone and I just want to prove I can accomplish things and be independent, and be someone my parents can be proud of. Thank you so much if so. Also, I am not Catholic so I'm not familiar with many saints, but if you know of any saints I could look to for inspiration and motivation it would be really appreciated if you're okay with that. Thank youx7 and God bless you
Even if you fail your classes Anon, you can always take them again later. I struggled with a lot of anxiety during college trying to finish a degree but in the end, I decided the degree wasn’t worth it and I needed to prioritize my mental health. I felt bad spending the hard earned money, but I learned a valuable set of lessons from my mistakes and learned I am not a failure. My parents wanted only my happiness and I am sure most would say the same. Some parents place high expectations on us, but remember you will always have more chances pass. It might be a good idea to take a break from classes (even if it’s just one semester or two) or reduce the number of classes. Too much stress can wreck our health. I will keep you in my prayers!
Here are some saints you may find good to ask for help in praying for you. They have more than one patronage but I have listed ones related to your situation:
- St. Jude, patron saint of hope and impossible causes.
- Our Lady of Loreto, patron saint of patron saint of pilots, airmen and flight attendants.
- St. Joseph of Cupertino, patron saint of aviation, astronauts, mental handicaps, test taking, and students.
- St. Padre Pio, patron saint of stress relief.
- St. Joseph, patron saint of families, travelers, engineers and working people.
- St. Thomas Aquinas, patron saint of universities and scholars.
- St. Thérèse of Lisieux, patron saint of the sick.
- St. Raphael, patron saint of travelers.
- St. Dymphna, patron saint of those who suffer with mental and nervous disorders.
- St. Benedict Joseph Labre, patron saint of those suffering from mental illness.
- St. Juliana Falconieri, those suffering from bodily ills
- St. Christina the Astonishing, patron saint of the mentally ill.
- Our Lady of Lourdes, patron saint of healing.

“I, the undersigned poor sinner,...” The Life of Blessed Joseph Marello, Pg. 193
Marello’s sanctity is examined through a specific jeweler’s lens capable of revealing every detail of its intrinsic structure. We do not find therein stigmata, ecstasies, brilliant deeds, or the martyr’s crown. The Holy Spirit inspires souls in an infinite variety of ways. Think of Saints Louis IX, the king of France, and Benedict Joseph Labre, a poor pilgrim; the mystic St. Teresa of Avila, and the simple St. Theresa of Lisieux; the martyr saints of Uganda and the relifious women saints of the leprosariums and hospices. Saints are not products of an assembly line that come out all looking alike.
They have in common only one essential characteristic: they overcome all the obstacles of their human inclinations and environment, and for love of God they humbly fulfill the duties of their particular state of life.

Okay. Here’s my facts.
100,000 people went missing.
This somehow involves the St. Benedict Joseph Labre Church in Queens, NYC, NY.
That’s a Roman Catholic Church.
It has something to do with a dirty, graffitied cement/stone area and a mysterious figure hiding in the background.

Quote
Meditate on the horrors of Hell which will last for eternity because of one easily-committed mortal sin. Try hard to be among the few who are chosen. Think of the eternal flames of Hell, and how few there are that are saved.
