The majority of matters that must be settled following a separation or divorce, including the division of assets, can be covered by a prenuptial agreement. Instead of leaving the division of property to the court, a pre-marital agreement could specify what belongs to which spouse.

Divorced!König x Reader (fem)
MDNI🔞
Master List✍🏽
>cw: fem/afab, divorced couple, fingering, oral, p in v, light angst/fluff
1.8k word count
.
.
After a failed marriage, you ended up with a 75/25 custody agreement with König; you getting your son 75% of the time. In the two years since the divorce, communication with König has been next to nothing. He asks you to communicate through lawyers and you agree, not wanting to deal with his childish rage. Every drop off has been done with you and his assistant. He’s found any way to ice you out.
This weekend is his, but you already informed his people of a trip your mother paid for all her grandchildren. König agreed to let him go and just take the next weekend. That’s why it's so surprising when your doorbell rings late Friday night.
Dressed in baggy shirt and biker shorts, you walk from the kitchen with a glass of wine in your hand. When you poke your head out the window to see who it is, you notice König’s Audi outside. Why is he here?
You open the door to be greeted by his intense gaze, his pale eyes locking onto yours. He’s wearing an expensive black on black outfit with a freshly shaved face. A small smile on his thin scarred lips. Different from his typical military uniform and stoic expression.
“Hello?”
“Hallo, Schatz.” His eyes drift up and down your body, appreciating your cute loungewear.
“What are you doing here?” You ask confused, his wandering eyes causing you to feel self-conscious.
“I’m here for Elisa.”
“I told you he’s gone with my family. Remember, you agreed for next weekend instead?”
“Ah.” König says, looking around, not moving. “May I come in?”
“Uh—I guess, yeah.”
You step aside to let him in. König walks in and sees the place he paid for in the divorce for the first time. It smells like you, home, and it’s comforting. You close the door and walk to him awkwardly, not knowing what to say. The surrounding air both feels thick and it’s uncomfortable.
“The place looks nice; homey.” He says, combing his fingers through his short hair.
“Thank you. And thank you for helping me with it—”
“You don’t need to thank me. It’s what a man is supposed to do for the mother of his child.” He says, trying to act manly, but in all honesty it’s because he never stopped loving you. The dead air makes things more awkward before he speaks up again. “Cheap red?” He gestures to the glass of wine still in your hand.
“Yeah, my favorite.” You laugh softly and take another sip.
“May I have a glass?” His Adam's apple bobs as he swallows, nervous of your rejection.
“Sure, yeah.”
König follows you close behind as you walk to the kitchen, silently cursing the baggy shirt you’re wearing for making it harder to check you out. There is light stubble covering your legs, making him smile; recalling what it felt like rubbing your legs late at night before bed. His eyes observe you as you open the bottle of wine and carefully pour it out. He can tell that he’s making you nervous and hopes it’s because you still feel butterflies with him.
You step forward and hand the glass to König, his large fingers graze your own causing his stomach to do a flip. His eyes lock with yours as you lean back against the counter. He brings the glass to his lips taking a small sip of the overly sweet cheap wine.
“Danke.”
“Yup.” You pour yourself more wine as you run through all the possibilities of what he might be here to talk about. Is he stopping spousal support? Asking for more days with Elias? Is he getting married? You turn to König once more. “How have you been?”
“I’ve been…well.” He takes a small sip of wine breaking eye contact. “You?”
“Same.”
“That’s good.” The same painful silence plagues the air. “The place looks nice.” He repeats himself.
“You said that already.” His eyes snap to yours.  “So why are you really here?”
“I- I.” He looks around the room trying to think of an excuse, he forgot his original one. “I just wanted to check up on you.”
“Why? We haven’t talked in…years.”
König’s face turns a light shade of pink as he feels the heavy guilt of just cutting you out. In all reality, when you filed for divorce, it shattered his heart. The only way he could move on is if he pretended you never existed, but that hasn’t worked.
“I’m sorry about that. I always just wonder how you are, so I decided to show up.”
“Why not call? Email?” You put your glass down on the countertop behind you. “That’s what a normal person would do. Why are you really here?”
“I’ve missed you.” His voice comes out in a broken whisper before clearing his throat.
König looks down at you with the softest puppy eyes, waiting for you to respond. He knows that his neglect in the marriage is what led to its downfall so he doesn’t have much room to ask anything of you. His ego was too big of him to ask you for a second chance then, but these years without you have proved he can’t do it.
“What?” You snap.
“I said—”
“No, I heard you. Why would I care? Did you get dumped?”
“I never had a girlfriend.”
You look at him for a moment before snapping again, bringing up every moment that you can think of when you asked him to work on the relationship. Reminding him that he is the one that cut all communication between the both of you. He has been the one to give up and leave so easily while you drowned in life alone.
König didn’t dare defend himself or interrupt you. Everything you’re saying is completely correct. He just stands with slumped shoulders and a face full of regret. His eyes drift to your lips as you speak, noticing the way your soft lips pout as your words grow more emotional. With each second that passes, he gradually approaches, one small step at a time until he ends up just inches away from you. His free hand reaches out and cups the side of your face. Without another word, König leans in and kisses you.
A rush of powerful emotions comes flooding back to you. Just feeling his lips against yours once more was enough to melt you. Your lips press back against his as your hand grabs the glass from his hand and sets it down.
König wraps his arms around your waist and hoist you up on to the counter. His tongue presses past your lips, tasting your sweet tongue as he swirls his around yours. The kiss only briefly broken as he pulls your shirt off, tossing it onto the kitchen floor as he looks down at your braless breasts; just as perfect as they were last time he saw them.
König’s lips meet your once more while his hands move up to cup your breasts. He twirls your nipples between his fingers, leaving a trail of wet kissing down your side of your neck to your breast. In slow motions König flicking his tongue over your nipples. His rock-hard cock twitches in his pants.
“König, maybe we shouldn’t.”
“I need you, please.”
His fingers trace over the elastic in your shorts, pulling them off when he feels you lift your hips. A soft hum leaves his lips when he sees the floral-patterned underwear concealing what he craves the most right now. He wraps his hands around your hips, pulling you closer to him as he drops to his knees in front of you.
The warmth radiates between your legs, he craves it. His lips press against the cotton fabric, taking a deep breath in to savor your scent. He kisses hungrily, feeling the small wet spot growing on the fabric. With two fingers he slips underneath the fabric of his panties and touch your folds. His eyes meet you as he slips them into you, studying the expression of pleasure riddled across your face.
You drop your head back, resting on the cabinets behind you. Soft moans leave your lips as his thick fingers curl up pressing against your g-spot. His teeth pull your underwear to the slide more, slipping his tongue up and down your glistening folds. Your fingers find their way combing through his short hair.
The loud desperate moans leaving you only encourage him. This feels like when you were both younger and spontaneous, before König pushed you aside for work. He feels your sweet arousal begin to drip down from his fingers to his palm, your pussy white and creamy. His name leaves your lips like fire as you orgasm. Once your body stops trembling, he slowly withdraws his fingers from you. With his tongue flat, he licks the thick cream off your thighs and from between your cheeks, making sure he cleans you up.
Your eyes meet him as he stands up, rushing to undo his pants. His cock springs free as his pants fall, he pulls his shirt over his head to discard along with the rest. The look in your eyes is dreamy, full of lust of love.
König leans in and kisses your forehead as he lines himself up between your thighs. It’s been so long since he’s had sex, the fact it’s you he has again feel so unreal to him. He will never throw away the privilege of having your body ever again. You’re so beautiful, every inch.
As his cock slips in your jaw drops, a stuck moan lingers until finally he presses in completely. His forehead is presses against yours as his eyes close, letting the warmth consume him. One arm snakes underneath your thigh and pulls you forward more.
His broad hips snap against yours, a mixed melody of you both moaning fills their space in the kitchen. Your feel his hot breath brush across your face, he looks down at you through half lidded eyes. The silky walls of your cunt hug his cock so perfectly, he’s forgotten just how tight you are.
“You feel so fucking good.” His voice is almost a whimper. “I love you. I love you so fucking much, y/n.”
Your hands caress his jawline, pulling him in for a sloppy kiss. König responds by thrusting harder into you. The sound of your creamy cunt and feeling of your soft lips push his body to the point of no return. His hips slow to attempt to prolong the pleasure, but he can’t. His cock throbs deep inside of you, cum slowly dripping out when he pulls slightly.
The both of you try to catch your breath, his hands not leaving you as he squeezes you tightly as if he’s scared to let go. König gently lifts you from the counter and walks to the couch. With gentle hands he rests you back against the soft fabric. Still not pulling out, he climbs on top of you and hugs you to his body. He hopes that this is a sign of reconciliation.

does anyone wanna be on taglist for this gojo x reader fic? 🧚‍♀️✨
edit: first chapter is out!!
HI BABES after much deliberation i am starting a new gojo fic series :””) I PROMISE I WILL STILL BE ON THAT KICKOFF GRIND but ugh i just had too many ideas and i just neeeeeeed to start this series rn
it's based on this concept idea i had (changed a few things though. also, if you commented on this post, i'm alr gonna tag you haha so dw ab commenting under this one too)
here’s a bit of info about it:
ᰔ title. TO BE DECIDED STILL
ᰔ pairing. fake marriage au - neighbor&realtor!gojo x nurse!reader
ᰔ genres. fluff, smut, angst, enemies to lovers (sort of), annoyances to lovers (that's more like it), small town romance, fake marriage, next door neighbors, lots of bickering, slow burn, mutual pining, gojo likes to play house but you don't, hatred for the american healthcare system, gojo always forgets to mow the lawn, lots of jealousy, an insane amount of profanity, suburban shenanigans; btw gojo in this fic is in his early 30s n reader is in her late 20s
ᰔ summary. gojo satoru is your extremely annoying next-door-neighbor who you're pretty sure is the most insufferable man you've ever met. given the fact that you exclusively work the night shift at a chaotic emergency dept, just got broken up with your boyfriend of seven years, n have been taking care of your sick mom ever since her multitude of diagnoses, yet somehow your neighbor is the main source of stress in your life should speak volumes. but when your mother's medical bills start to skyrocket more than you can manage, and you learn that said neighbor of yours has the best private health insurance in the country, you ask him to enter a matrimonial agreement with you for the spousal benefits all in the name of saving a few hundred thousand dollars. but you'll have to see if suffering cohabitation with him is worth any amount of money.
some side quests. your ex bf is a cop and is determined to prove your marriage is a sham because he's jealous, it appears gojo's love life history is not as simple as it may seem either, also there will be lots of secondary angst because of reader's mom's sickness :'') i will really be delving into a lot of the struggles of having a sick family member (in this fic, alzheimer's & cancer)
here is a little teaser.
Tumblr media
and here's another lil teaser i posted yesterday
BUT ANYWAYS yeah please comment below if you'd like to be on the taglist!! tysm for your support :'') the first chapter will likely be posted tomorrow (4/19) if not saturday (4/20 eyyyy)

SIX MONTHS AGO
Kiyana closed her eyes and let out a deep breath. “I can’t do this anymore Josh. I can’t even go out with some friends without you accusing me of sleeping around.”
“Whatchu’ want me to think Kiyana? Look at how you about to leave this house.” Kiyana rolled her eyes. She had worked so damn hard to get her body back to the way it was before she had her boys. She was going to show it off every chance she got.
“You never had a problem with how I dressed before!” She responded, raising her voice.
“That was before you decided that your body no longer belonged to me!” Kiyana narrowed her eyes and stomped towards him.
“You have no fucking right. You decided to sleep with that bitch first and when i give you a taste of your own medicine you can’t fucking handle it. You been hounding me since I agreed that we can try to make things work. Why are you so damn paranoid Joshua?  I’m here, I’m still here with you after everything you did to me. Get the fuck over what happend with me and Joe and let’s move the fuck on like we agreed.” Josh turned his face up at her before sucking his teeth and stomping up the stairs, slamming the door to their room.
Tumblr media
PRESENT DAY
Kiyana had never seen Josh look so defeated as he sat at the other end of the table with his lawyer. He had his hand folded together and would not look up from the table. He hadn’t even spoken since he walked into the room, only giving his lawyer a head nod or shake when asked a question.
It She had tried so damn hard to move forward with her marriage with Josh, but they were always walking on eggshells around each other. It wasn’t like before when they were two people who fell in love in highschool and thought they would be together forever. It was different. For Kiyana, it was like waking up next to a stranger everyday for six months. He was still Josh, he just wasn’t her Josh. He wasn’t the same Josh she fell in love with in highschool. His affair tarnished her image of him and she couldn’t pretend anymore.
“She can keep it.” She heard Josh talk and she blinked, focussing her attention back to Josh and his lawyer. “She can keep the car and the house, she can keep everything.. All I want is to see my kids when I’m off the road.” Kiyana and her lawyer shared a look before she nodded her head in agreement with what Josh wanted.
“Ok, what about spousal support?”
“I don’t need it.” Kiyana said and for the first time in weeks Josh actually looked at her. “I called in a couple of favors and I'll be starting back at my old job on Monday.”
“Kiyana, take the damn support.”
“No.” She said firmly, crossing her arms over her chest. “I don’t need it, Joshua. I can support myself. I don’t want anything from you.”
“Wow.” Josh scoffed, staring Kiyana down. “That’s really how you feel? After twenty-three years -”
“Fuck them twenty-three years.” She scoffed, with a roll of her eyes. “You had an affair for four months! Them twenty three years mean shit now.” She held out her hand to her lawyer and he placed the pen in her hand. “Where do I sign?”
Tumblr media
Kiyana let out a sigh as she pulled into the driveway to Trinity and Jon’s house. The last thing she wanted to do was be at a birthday party with her ex-family. She and Josh had only been officially divorced for about 4 hours.
She already had it in her mind that she was only going to drop the boys off, she was not staying at this party. She forced a smile on her face as she and her boys walked into the backyard of Trinity and Jon’s house. The smile faltered a bit as the backyard went quiet with all of Josh’s family members staring at her.
Clearing her throat, she held her head up high as she walked over to where Kamari had run over too.
“Hi.” She said to Josh handing him Kairo who was already trying to jump out her arms to get to his dad. Josh said nothing to her as he took Kairo and Kiyana resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She bent down and placed a kiss on Kaiden’s and then Kamari’s forehead. “Daddy will drop you guys off at home ok.” She said to them, cutting her eyes to Josh who nodded his head in agreement.
“You’re not staying?” Kaiden asked, grabbing her hand with a pout on his face and Kiyana almost folded.. almost.
“No bubba.” Kiyana said softly. “Don’t you wanna spend time with daddy and your cousins?”  She pointed over to where Kamari had run off to with their cousins, playing in the bouncy house and Kaiden nodded but still didn’t let go of her hand.
Josh handed Kairo over to his sister and bent down so he was eye level with Kaiden. “It’s okay Kai. You gon see mommy later okay.” Kaiden nodded and gave his mommy a kiss on the cheek before running over to where his cousins were playing.
“Okay you can go now.” Kiyana let out a sigh then chuckled. She knew it was coming. “Nobody wants you here after what you did to my brother.” Kiyana rose back to her full height and turned around to face Josh’s sister Melvania. She smirked as she took in the look on Mel’s face. Melvania never liked Kiyana over some petty cheerleader bullshit that happened back in high school.
“Never said I was staying ,Mel.” Kiyana rolled her eyes. She nodded her head at Josh as went to walk out of the backyard.
“ Good riddance whore.” Kiyana her Melvania whisper and giggle with one of their cousins. Tired of the disrespect, Kiyana turned around to face them.
“I don’t see how I'm the bad guy in this situation. I had my little fling after your brother had his affair for four months and I still stayed with his ass trying to fix our marriage.” Mel scoffed and shrugged her shoulders.
“You still cheated on my brother.” Kiyana had to laugh. Because Mel always made excuses for Josh’s and Jon’s behavior. In Mel’s eyes her brothers could do no wrong.
“After he cheated on me and told the bitch he was planning on divorcing me first!.” Kiyana wanted to smirk at the shocked look on Melvania’s face at the information she just learned.
“Come on Yana. Let me walk you to your car.” Jon had come over to put out the fire between Kiyana and his sister after seeing his twin stand there and watch the whole thing.
Kiyana glared at Josh before storming off from the party. “I’m sorry If i ruined the vibe for Jayla’s party. I know alot of your family doesn’t want me around.” Jon only nodded and watched as she got into her car. He felt bad for Kiyana. Most of her second family had turned their back on her because Josh wasn’t telling the whole truth.
“Listen, you know me and Trin always got your back right.” When Kiyana nodded, Jon continued. “I just don’t think it's a good time to be around right now. Just for the time being.” Kiyana felt her heart drop into her stomach.
“Wow. You know what..” Kiyana couldn’t even get the words out. Jon had basically just told her to stay away from his family.
“Kiyana, I’m just saying -”
“I understand what you’re saying Jonathan.” She said as the tears started coming down her face. “Message received loud and clear.”

Got Me Thinking
Part 2: Late Nights and Spousal Confessions
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Not wanting the night to end, Jack quickly asks to spend more time with you. Little did the two of you know that it would end up being a therapy session about your marriages to other people.
Pairing: Jack Harlow x Reader
Read Part 1 First
Please Do Not Repost My Content Anywhere
Jack continued to look at you in disbelief before the biggest smile broke out on his face as he quickly embraced you.
Your arms immediately went around his neck as you felt him pick you up so your feet were hovering above the ground as he hugged you tighter.
“Are you really here right now?” He asked as he whispered in your ear and you simply nodded before responding to him.
“I am and you can thank your little brother for that.”
“And to answer your question, yes. I did miss you, more than you know.”
“Well if I would have known that you two would be this excited to see each other, I would have done it sooner.” Clay mumbled and the two of you couldn't help but laugh. Jack placed you back on your feet before his left hand went to cup your face as his right started to play with the ends of your hair. Something that he used to do when the two of you were younger so it was obvious that old habits die hard.
“And that's who he let get away? Look at how they're looking at each other! Jack hasn't acknowledged anyone else since he's seen her. He doesn't even look at his own wife like that.” Ace said to Clay who simply nodded in agreement.
“That's who he should have been with and stayed with from the beginning.”
“Agreed.”
The party consisted of Jack and Urban making their rounds and mingling with all of their guests, but one thing that didn't happen was you leaving Jack's side. You had been basically glued to him for the entire night and you could tell that your presence was giving him a sense of comfort. Just like before when the two of you were together.
When it got close to about 2 in the morning, people were starting to wind down and leave and since Clay brought you, he quickly asked when you would be ready to leave, but Jack jumped in before you could say anything.
“I'll take her home, don't worry about it. We have a lot to catch up on.” He said while turning to you and smiling.
“I figured, but I thought I would ask anyway.” Clay said while smiling at the sight in front of him. He didn't even know the last time that he saw his older brother so happy and he was hoping that it would stay that way and the two of you would end up together like everyone wanted.
No one had really mentioned or brought up the fact that Jack's wife, better known as Kelsey, hadn't even shown up to her own husband's birthday party but it was clear that Jack did not care one bit. His attention and focus had been on you the entire time and you were low key happy that you didn't have to compete for it with someone else.
The two of you were now settled into Jack’s Jeep and he simply looked over at you and smiled.
“I literally just cannot believe you’re here right now.”
“I actually wasn’t going to come, but Clay convinced me.” You said being completely honest as he began to drive.
“What? Why?”
“I didn’t think that you would have wanted to see me.”
“What the? It’s not like we ended on a bad note. Besides, I literally always ask your mom about you anytime that I see her. That just happens to be a lot since you know our moms have been inseparable since we began dating and haven’t let up since.”
“Very true. Any time I talk to her and ask her what she’s doing she says she’s with Maggie.”
“I don’t want to take you home just yet, if that’s okay.” Jack said, looking straight ahead as he was coming to a red light.
“Hmm, we can go to Waffle House, they’re still open.”
Once the two of you reached Waffle House and got settled into a booth in the back, you knew that Jack was bound to ask you about being married and you were just waiting for it. You both scanned the menu in a comfortable silence before he spoke up.
“So……”
“So…..” You said back to him as both of you let out laughs.
“Tell me everything. What’s been going on with you?”
“Well, I did end up going to nursing school and did that for a little while before I decided to go back and get my CRNA.”
“Damn, I knew my girl was smart. I remember you telling me that you wanted to do that. That’s anesthesia right?” Your heart instantly fluttered when you heard him call you his girl.
“It is, I didn’t think that you would remember.”
“I remember everything about my first love. Including how she didn’t think my full name was Jackman and decided to call me Jackson instead and it stuck.”
You immediately busted out laughing remembering the conversation that the two of you had with you both going back and forth debating on what Jack’s real name was. And you legit asked Maggie to see his birth certificate which she laughed about.
“And to this day, you are the only person allowed to do that.”
“But I love Jackman better. It makes you unique.” You replied as you looked back down at the menu and was deciding on what you wanted to drink.
“What else has happened? You live in Cali now, right?”
“Yeah, I live in Calabasas and have been there for about six years. I like it…. At times.”
Just then the two of you were interrupted by your waiter who you looked up to see was Ms.Isabella. She was the manager and worked here for as long as you two could remember.
“Well isn’t it my favorite nurse and my favorite rapper?!”
“Ms. Isabella, respectfully, don’t you only know like five of my songs? How am I your favorite rapper?” Jack asked joking with her, but all she did was laugh and roll her eyes at him.
“I’ve been to enough concerts to know more than five songs. Anyway, you two aren’t married yet?” She asked and both of you looked like deer caught in headlights, but you quickly recovered.
“Ms. Isabella we’re both married, but not to each other.” You asked and all she did was try to hide the obvious smirk that was about to be displayed on her face. She had definitely been talking to your mother and knew what she was doing.
“Oh, what a shame. Anyway, all I know is that I remember the two of you always being in here when you were younger and being inseparable. Especially when both of you would be drunk and trying to sober up before you went home. A secret that I shall keep from both of your mother’s forever. Anyway, what are we drinking? Orange juice?”
“That’s fine.” Jack quickly said as she nodded her head to walk towards the counter.
When she walked away, it was slightly awkward and you knew for a fact that he was about to ask you now.
“So, how long have you been married?” He asked while looking down and drumming his fingers on the table.
“This year will be three years.” You quietly answered and Jack nodded his head. One of the first things he noticed was your wedding ring when he had first laid eyes on you and seeing it in person made his heart drop. He knew that you were, but was wishing deep down that it wasn’t true.
“What’s his name?”
“Xavier.”
“Does… he treat you well?”
You hesitated on answering that simply because you knew the type of person that Jack was. Even though he wasn’t one to care for confrontation, when it came to you he didn’t care. He would probably have no problem hoping on a plane and going to Cali in order to beat his ass for what he had done to you.
“That’s…. A loaded question. Umm…”
“Y/N, I’m not trying to pry and you only have to tell me what you feel comfortable with me knowing. But the look on your face is telling when I asked about him.”
“It’s just complicated.”
“Marriage can be difficult sometimes, but it shouldn’t be complicated if the two people involved work together.”
“I… I married a wonderful person who I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life with, but about ten months ago his true colors started to show and I don’t think that I can stomach being married to a person like that much longer.”
“Did he put his hands on you? Because….” Jack asked with his voice slightly raising and you immediately shook your head no and placed your hand on top of his in order to get him to calm down.
“No, nothing like that.”
“Are you sure?”
“I promise. It’s nowhere near that.”
“Then, what is it?”
“He’s been cheating on me for a year and got another woman pregnant.”
Jack’s mouth was now hanging wide open as he looked at you dumbfounded.
“And does he know that you know this?”
You just shook your head no and sighed.
“I… you know that you deserve better than that.”
“I know, I’m just trying to stack my money to be able to get a divorce and get away from him. I already opened up a bank account that he has no idea about.”
“Y/N, I’m so sorry.” Jack quietly said as he saw your eyes watering. Bottom line was you still loved Xavier despite what he had done to you and you absolutely hated yourself for it.
“Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine, just a little while longer. Now onto you, tell me all that there is to know about Kelsey. I thought I was going to meet her tonight. How’s married life treating you?” Even though you had heard from multiple people about how Jack was miserable in his marriage, you needed to hear it come straight from him.
“Hmm, not a lot to tell.”
“What in the world is that supposed to mean?”
When Jack was once again quiet, you could still read him like an open book despite how many years had passed.
“You regret it.” You quietly said and he just looked at you.
“How can you know exactly what I’m thinking without me having to say anything and you’re in tune with my feelings when my wife can’t even do that?”
“I can read you like a book, Jackman. I’ve always been able to. You can be completely silent like just now and I…. why do you regret it?”
“I’ve recently found out some things about her that I didn’t know before and it makes me think that I truly don’t know her at all and I rushed into this.”
Ms. Isabella interrupted the two of you as she sat both of your drinks down and was waiting for the two of you to order.
“I'll take the all star breakfast.”
“Me too.” You quietly said as you handed her your menu and she simply shot both of you a smile before walking away.
“So, Clay telling me that you were miserable in your marriage wasn't a lie?”
“I… I know he's just trying to look out for me but it's not a lie. I definitely care about her to a certain extent and don't want anything bad to happen to her but….”
“Then do what you have to do in order for you to have a peace of mind.”
“I want to give it time seeing as it hasn't even been a year yet and the fact that the amount of people that would be telling me ‘I told you so’ would be endless.”
“Don't worry about them. As long as you're happy, that's the important part.”
“True.”
“Besides, I’m here for you and will support you with whatever you decide.”
“I appreciate that. Now that I got you back I'm definitely not letting you go again.”
It was around seven in the morning when the two of you finally pulled in front of your parent's house and you weren't afraid to admit that you were sad that the night was coming to an end.
When the two of you had left Waffle House, you both decided to watch the sunrise for old times sake since that was something that the two of you would do often when you two were together.
You were excited that he was now back in your life and was hoping that it would be for the long haul.
“I hope you had an amazing birthday.” You said as the two of you were now standing outside of his Jeep.
“I did because I got the best birthday gift that I could have ever asked for, like Clay said. I appreciate you for coming and I'm happy that I got to see you. It's been way too long.”
“It has.”
“How long are you staying?”
“About another week.”
Jack simply nodded as he grabbed your hand and started rubbing small circles on the back of it.
“Block out some time for me?”
“For you? Always. You never have to ask.” You answered as you smiled up at him which he quickly returned before bringing you into a hug.
“I missed you so much and that is probably all you're going to hear me say over the next week.”
“I don't mind because I missed you too.” You responded as the two of you finally pulled away.
“Go and get some sleep and I’ll call you later.” Jack said as he reached down to kiss your forehead and then your cheek which was dangerously close to your mouth, but you brushed it off and thought nothing of it.
“Okay.”
“Since we now have an audience.”
You looked behind you to see your brother looking out of the window on the second floor as your sister and your parents were looking out of the window that was in the living room and you immediately groaned as Jack laughed. Your mom looked to be on the phone and you knew for a fact that she was talking to Maggie and giving her a play by play.
“I'm probably hitting the studio later. You want to come?”
“Hmm, I think I can clear my schedule for you.”
“Then it's a date.”

Chapter 1: A Meeting
The Great Hall was full of laughing, happy people, many well on their way to true celebratory drunkenness.
Otto Hightower was not one of them.
He had been enjoying the celebration of his daughter’s wedding. But that was before his son, Gwayne, had gotten so raucously drunk that two members of the Kingsguard were required to force him back to his quarters. And before the bedding ceremony was called for, and despite earlier agreements, several pieces of Alicent’s ensemble had been left on the floor of the Great Hall.
It was enough to tempt him into a second goblet of wine, dulling his mind just enough for him to begin to enjoy the music – and to be grateful the Princess Rhaenyra had sullenly slunk away before she could shove any young maidens at him. Perhaps she had entirely forgotten about her plan to arrange his marriage or given up on getting her revenge.
Then again, perhaps not.
Otto passed the time observing the remaining guests, noting who had spoken to whom and about what. It helped him discern who would make a potential ally, who needed more convincing, and who needed to be removed from court. He had just dismissed the grumblings of two minor lords as inconsequential when his eye caught on two people – a man and a woman - that he did not recognize.
They both seemed familiar, yet Otto could recall no name to match their faces. Perhaps he had seen them in passing during the events preceding the wedding – the tourney possibly, or even the morning feast. Though if it had been one of those, he likely would have remembered them.
Still, something about them was scratching insistently at the back of his mind and bringing an unpleasant feeling to his chest. More so the Man than the Woman, but still. If they were somehow a threat, as his instinct suggested, it would be prudent of him to watch them closely.
The Man wore entirely ostentatious clothing, the dyes obnoxiously rich and bright. A gaudy purple shot through with the whitest white silk Otto had ever seen. He was clearly trying to impress his peers and ensure his house was recognized. Still, Otto could not quite place the heraldry, an irony he allowed himself a moment to delight in. The purple and white were relatively unique, but stars were so common that they offered no hint of who the man was.
Northern, most likely, judging by his thick dark hair, hard gray eyes, and stocky build. His features, individually, were well-formed, yet it made an unpleasant whole. A man of brutality and brutishness. A man who smiled rarely. And when he did, his smile likely indicated something wicked. A thoroughly unpleasant figure.
But the Woman – the Lady…
A pretty young thing. A very pretty young thing, likely only a year or two older than Alicent. She wore no heraldry save a small silver pin on her breast. Her clothes were simple, all made of dark fabric that could easily be mistaken for black if one did not look closely. Though she bore no ring on her finger, her hair was worn braided and pinned back like a married woman’s.
With the sinking feeling of both realization and pity, Otto realized that there was only one reason why she would be wearing such clothes at a royal wedding, of all places – she was in mourning.
Yet her companion seemed to hold no pity for her. They were far enough away that Otto could not hear the words, but from the deep furrow of the Man’s brow and the Lady’s tired, resigned eyes, he knew the conversation was not pleasant. He had only just made the decision to stay out of whatever family squabble this was when the Man turned to look at him, then seized the Lady’s arm, hissed something into her ear, and thrust her in Otto’s direction.
At least this did not seem to be the work of Rhaenyra. No, this was all the work of the unpleasant man. It no longer mattered what house he was from or if he could be used as an ally. It only mattered that he was desperate to raise his station, and that Otto did not like him.
The decision was easy to make – he understood her pain, having lost a love himself. He would be kind to her but would not impose himself on such a lovely young woman in mourning any longer than necessary to temporarily sate her companion’s apparent social climbing aspirations. No matter his promise to the King, or his burgeoning desire for a companion of his own, this girl deserved better than an old man. Once he spoke to her, perhaps he could even introduce her to more suitable bachelors.
For he certainly was not the match for her.
Tumblr media
If you thought the nearly month-long journey to King’s Landing was insufferable, it was nothing compared to the cacophony that was the capital during a royal wedding. In the last five days, you were forced to endure a parade in the sweltering heat, three days of brutal tourney events, and a “woman’s breakfast” the morning of the ceremony, during which no one spoke to you. And at the end of each day, a grand feast in the Great Hall.
Not that you could partake in much of the exquisite and exotic food, for your good sister Sybelle would not let you eat more than a few bites in worry that you would appear gluttonous and unladylike. Any respite that would have come when she inevitably flitted across the hall to grovel at the feet of the well-esteemed ladies from better-known houses was quickly squashed when her husband – your good brother, Gryff – whisked you away to present you to suitors like you were a prized cow gone to market.
Fortunately, your mourning clothes and shy demeanor meant that very few of the men were enticed by you. And any that were interested were quickly put off when they learned how small and insignificant your house was and that there would be little benefit for them in a match with you. Lord Jason Lannister even expressed surprise that you had been invited to the wedding. Gryff’s sputtering after that had made your evening.
But the more you were rejected, the more insistent he became. Desperate was perhaps the better word. Either way, it led you here – standing to the side of the hall with a still-empty stomach and Gryff hissing in your ear like the viper he was.
“Six days,” he spat, the smell of alcohol lingering on his breath, “six fucking days, and you have yet to tempt even one suitor! From among the two score I’ve introduced you to!” He scoffed and took another swig from his goblet. “Soon, I’ll have to start offering you to young twats whose stones have not dropped. At least they won’t be able to tell how hard you’ve already been ridden.”
“You are vulgar,” you said softly, not entirely wanting him to hear you.
But, of course, he did. Gryff rounded on you, his face reddened and blotchy from his imbibement. There was no pity or warmth in his eyes. There never was. “Vulgar it may be, but if that is what it takes to find you a new husband so you can finally get off my land and stop draining my coffers, so be it.”
You took a deep breath, trying not to cry or scream. It wouldn’t be proper at an event such as this and would provoke even more anger from Gryff and Sybelle. While they would not dare to harm you, they had found several other cruel and creative ways to make you miserable. Best to calm the fire before getting burned.
“I have done my best. I have been kind and amiable of every man you’ve thrust me upon,” you knew your attempt at reasoning with him would likely fail, but at least you would have tried. Locke would not have stayed silent in the face of such insults, so neither would you. “It is not my fault that they are well-mannered and civilized and therefore do not wish to court a woman in mourning.”
Gryff barked a callous laugh, drawing the attention of several of those around you. For once, he did not notice; he only continued to sneer. “But it is your fault, good sister. You may recall that before we left, I commanded that you leave your mourning clothes behind. That you wear something more attractive. Yet you disobeyed me, just so you would have a good excuse to continue living off my generosity!”
In truth, it was because your lady’s maids had known how much you still grieved your beloved husband and refused the order their new master had given. Though you were grateful for their thoughtfulness, you were very close to wishing they had not done it.
Pressing your lips together to stop them trembling, you replied quietly. Weakly. “You know that is not true. Locke was – ”
“A fool to fall for your little act,” he interrupted, smiling triumphantly when he saw tears forming in your eyes. “Always so sentimental and trusting. He may have put on a convincing façade, but he was weak. I have no doubt he would have squandered our fortune and destroyed our reputation just to please you.” He leaned forward to whisper in your ear. “Perhaps it is fortunate, then. That he met such an untimely end.”
A monster. That’s what Gryff was. To say these horrid things about anyone was terrible enough, but to say them about his own brother?
Your revulsion was almost enough to make you throw yourself at the next man you saw and beg him to take you on. But you could not, for you still saw Locke around each corner. The bright smile he always bore when he saw you. The way he held you close and kissed you, propriety be damned. The way he looked at you as though you were the Maiden herself.
He was no fool. He was not weak.
He was a good man. A good husband. Your great love.
And he was gone.
The crushing weight of the grief shattered any retort you had. Not that it mattered anyway – something had caught Gryff’s eye. He seized your arm, making sure his nails dug into your skin even through the layers of black silk, and leaned in to again spit his venom in your ear.
“It seems there may yet be one man remaining who is wealthy enough to suit your tastes,” he laughed gravely. “Do try to make a good impression, or else I shall have to start sending inquiries to the heathens in Essos.”
With that, he shoved you away, towards a shadowy alcove against the far wall. Partially hidden amongst the dimness and the curtains was a tall man. A very tall man. Lean for his age, but with an erudite look about him that suggested his prowess was not of the body, but of the mind.
He was a man you recognized immediately, having seen him in a place of honor at every celebratory you had attended in the capital. Even without that knowledge, you would have immediately known who he was by the golden pin on his breast.
Otto Hightower. The Hand of the King.
And he was looking directly at you.
Oh, Gryff was reaching far too high. And now it seemed you would be the one to weather the fall.
But there was a spark of kindness in Lord Hightower’s eyes – eyes as wise and perceptive as an owl’s – that assuaged your fears enough that you did not tremble as you weaved through the crowd to reach him. Still, you turned your eyes down and prayed he would not recognize you from the pin you still wore. Pity given for your mourning was bearable, but the Hand would know…
You reached him before finishing the thought and lowered yourself in a curtsy. “My Lord Hand,” you began, thankful that, for once, you were able to speak for yourself, “I offer my congratulations to you and your daughter on this joyous occasion. You must be very proud.”
“Hmm, proud indeed.” He held out a large hand to help you rise, a kind gesture you had not expected from a man of his station. When you met his eyes, they were searching your face for something. He did not recognize you then, a relief.
“Thank you very much for your kind sentiments, Lady…?”
A short relief.
Steeling yourself for the pitying coos and well wishes you were sure were coming, you told him your name, then added, “Born of House Fenn, now of House Whitehall.”
And there it was, that hateful glimmer of recognition in his eyes as he remembered the story of the unfortunate girl from the swamps of the Neck, plucked from her humble origins among the crannogmen to wed the dashing young lord of Highpoint.
It was a story fit for a fairytale. That is, until it was over within a year, when your husband was killed in an ambush by the wild men of the Northern mountains. Gryff, your late husband’s younger brother and presumptive heir, was intent upon sending you back to the swamps before he was stopped by his mother, who insisted that though the marriage was short, you nevertheless had all the rights accorded to the Dowager Lady of the hall, and as the potential mother of the new heir – should you be carrying one. After all, you and Locke were truly, deeply in love, and there was no reason to believe his seed had not found root.
Thus, Gryff had you confined to your rooms until your moon’s blood arrived – or didn’t. You were allowed no servant but the guard he had commanded to watch your every move and were forced to endure extensive examinations by the Maester daily. And when your moon’s blood came, Gryff had a carriage waiting to take you back to your father.
Unbeknownst to him, your good mother had sent a letter to both your father and Lord Stark at Winterfell. As a crannogman whose title of nobility was scoffed at by those outside the swamps, your father could do very little to help. But with Lord Stark also on your side, Gryff could not dismiss you so easily. He could, however, appeal the Lord of the North’s order to the only higher authority available, requiring that all involved – except you, of course – journey to King’s Landing to present the case to the King himself.
After hearing both petitions, the King – and Otto Hightower – had not only commanded that you be allowed full rights as a widow, but placed restrictions on how Gryff could treat you. Namely, he could not banish you from his lands or force you to remarry.
He could, however, make your life at Highpoint so miserable that you would wish to leave and be desperate enough to get away from him that you would marry of your own accord. It was something he and his wife were more than happy to do.
Still, as miserable as you were there, it was Locke’s home. The lands he loved so much he spent four whole days showing you the whole of it. And you quickly grew to love it, too, despite it being so drastically different from your home. It became your new home. Aside from the ring he gave you, the land was one of your only reminders of the great love you had lost.
How could you abandon it just because of two unpleasant people?
How could you marry someone else, like Locke had been nothing?
Even if you could, how were you ever to find a husband when every man you met looked at you as Otto Hightower did now?
His brow was furrowed above his water-blue eyes, and his mouth was pursed in thought. No doubt trying to find the words to offer you his pity, as if you had not already heard everything there was to say.
“I am very sorry for your loss, my lady,” he said gently. At least his voice was lovely enough to make the repetition of the words you had heard a thousand times more bearable. “I lost my wife only two years ago. To lose one you love so dearly… is a pain without description. I confess that, when I first heard of what happened to your husband and what was done to you, I could not understand why the Gods would do such a thing to someone so young and innocent and…”
He nodded, seemingly to himself. “I prayed for you, Lady Whitehill. In fact, I still do.”
Then he turned away, looking past you and into the crowd. Had he not still been holding your hand, you may have taken it as a dismissal. You almost wished it was as you felt his fingers tighten around yours and his face turn from pensive to grave. But the second most powerful man in Westeros was holding you in place. Gently, but still. Who were you to disobey him?
“I am surprised I forgot his face,” Lord Hightower mused, only half-speaking to you. “He is easily one of the most unpleasant men I have ever met.”
You turned, following his gaze back to Gryff, who was doing a very poor job of pretending not to be watching you. Turning back to Lord Hightower, you saw his lip curled in disgust. Something about that expression on the face of such a serious, incredibly important man tickled something inside you that you thought had died with Locke.
So, you laughed. Short and weak, but still a laugh. The sound drew Lord Hightower’s eyes back to you, and he smiled curiously. “I did not intend that as a joke, Lady Whitehill. Was I mistaken?
“No, forgive me, my lord.” You shied away from him, looking down at your joined hands. “It is only that I don’t often hear people speak of him with such… honesty.”
“Yes,” he murmured as he, too, looked at your hands. After a moment, he dropped his and crossed his arms behind his back. “He is not a man I would expect to tolerate criticism.”
You sighed, briefly missing the contact, the warmth of his hand. “He is not a man who tolerates many things. But criticism is one that… none at Highpoint dare even contradict him.”
Lord Hightower looked at you thoughtfully, as if you were a puzzle he couldn’t quite sort. “I have had the misfortune of meeting many such men, and I am very sorry you have had to meet even one.”
He was quiet for a while. Long enough that you began silently crafting your farewell and considering how you would explain the fruitless meeting to Gryff. He would not be happy with this particular failure, and you could not decide which of his threats he would follow through on – offering you to mere boys or to Essosi men. Either would likely take you far from home and had no guarantee that your situation would improve. Perhaps –
“Why did he bring you here?” Lord Hightower said suddenly. When you lifted your head to face him, he was again looking not at you but at Gryff. His face betrayed nothing, but a dark gleam in his eyes sent a chill through your blood and yet… made you feel safe. Protected. Like you could tell him the truth.
A foolish feeling. You could tell no one the truth. Telling the truth meant leaving Highpoint – leaving Locke – and that was something you would not do.
“He brought me for the wedding,” you lied. “He thought it might cheer me.”
It was the worst lie you had ever told, though you’d never been very good at them. Though this one was particularly bad. Not only had you not been particularly convincing in your delivery – your voice wavered, and your smile was too tight to be sincere – but Lord Hightower had been at Gryff’s petition to send you away. According to your father, Gryff had been in fine, horrible form. So, Lord Hightower knew better than most that your good brother would never do anything for your sake.
And the fact that you were pretending he would apparently made Lord Hightower very, very angry. It seemed as though the shadows of the alcove itself swirled around him and darkened his eyes. Still, you felt safe with him. You knew instinctively that his anger was not directed at you.
Yet you did shrink away slightly when he turned that dark gaze on you. “The King expressly forbade him from forcing you to marry.” His voice had taken on a low, sharp quality, which you were reasonably certain had often made Lords and Generals quake in their boots. Indeed, you were sure you would do whatever he wanted, so long as he asked it in that voice. “Has he disobeyed this? Did he bring you here to find a husband against your will?”
It was hard to meet his eyes. “He…” you swallowed, summoning every bit of your will to not tell him the truth. But even if you did somehow manage to lie convincingly, you did not doubt that Lord Hightower would nevertheless be able to see right through you. This was a political mind at work, the keenest in the realm. He likely knew the answer before he ever asked the question. Which meant…
What he was actually asking was something different. Something he dare not speak aloud in the presence of others? No, not that. He was the Hand of the King, and this was the Red Keep – his territory. You doubted there was anything he would fear to say here, save open treason.
What was it?
If this was a political move, he must want something from you. Locke had once told you when you were alone in your chambers sharing a bottle of wine after one of his taxing journeys to Winterfell, that amongst lords and kings, nothing was ever free. There was no charity.
And yet, you could not think of a single thing Lord Hightower would want from you. You had no wealth of your own, nor did your father in any meaningful way, and Gryff would not part with a single sliver of copper. You held no alliances of your own outside of the crannogmen, and you doubted they would ever be of any help to him or the King. That left only… yourself.
He could not possibly want you. Yes, he was a widower, but his loss had also been recent. He told you himself how much it had pained him.
Even if he was in the market for a new wife, he would not want some penniless widow from the Neck. With his family name, position, and new status as the Queen’s father, he could choose any woman he wanted to wife. Though if he was looking for a distraction rather than a marriage… you did not let yourself consider it. He had made no advance on you, and his eyes held no sign of lust. You had seen lust in Locke’s eyes, burning like silver flames. There was no such flame in Lord Hightower’s eyes, only pity and concern. And something gentle, almost like hope.
Was it possible that his daughter’s wedding had made him feel charitable? That he had seen a sad young widow and decided that it was in the spirit of the day to help someone in need?
Help.
That is what he was asking – if you wanted his help. If you said ‘no’ right now, even knowing what he knew, he would walk away.
But if you said yes – if you asked for his help?
The Hand of the King was a powerful ally, the father of the Queen even better. If someone who could as easily grant Gryff the wealth and reputation he so craved as he could ensure it never came to be offered his support and protection, you didn’t know what would happen. But perhaps it would be better.
“Yes,” you whispered. The word could either save or damn you, but you said it either way. “He wants rid of the responsibility of me, so much that he’s willing to give me to anyone who shows interest.”
His dark expression was interrupted by a brief flash of confusion. Before you could inquire about what had disturbed him, he leaned down towards you. A strategic move. Anyone looking at you would merely see a man attempting to charm one of the last women remaining at the end of the celebration.
“Forgive me for my forwardness, my lady,” he paused to look you over again, “but I admit I find it hard to believe that no man has shown you interest.”
Another veiled question. This one easier to decipher.
You ensured you were positioned so that Gryff could not see your face before answering, for you knew you could not hide your smug smile. “The mourning clothes help with that,” you admitted, “as do carefully timed tears.”
Lord Hightower seemed to relax at that and smirked at you conspiratorially. “I imagine the prospect of a permanent association with your good brother is the most effective deterrent.”
It was not a deception for Gryff’s benefit when you began to laugh together. You had not laughed with someone in so long nor felt as comfortable around another person since Locke died. Not even with your good mother. She tried, but she could not separate you from her grief for her son, so laughing with her was a sheer impossibility.
The realization sobered you instantly. This moment was a gift, yes. But the very fact that a moment of laughter with a stranger was the happiest you had been in more than a year and would likely remain so for some time. You would be returning to the North soon, back to a life with very little joy.
It was as though Lord Hightower could read the thoughts in your eyes. His own smile fell, and he again took your hand. “When do you leave the capital, my lady?
“We will remain several days more,” you answered, the words tasting like bitter wine. “Gryff is eager to make alliances and raise his standing.”
“Hmm,” Lord Hightower hummed as he absentmindedly stroked the back of your hand with his thumb. From how his eyes darted back and forth ever so slightly, you knew that brilliant mind was formulating some kind of plan.
Unfortunately, it seemed he would not share that plan with you.
He simply raised your hand to his mouth to kiss it as a proper gentleman does, the hairs of his beard tickling your skin, before looking at you once more. “You may tell Lord Whitehill that I was thoroughly charmed by you.” Something about the way the corner of his mouth quirked up made you think it was not entirely a fiction. “I suspect that will satisfy him well enough that he will be less… overbearing, at least for a while. In the meantime, I shall endeavor to find a more pleasant solution to your woes.”
Your heart quickened with anticipation and hope, something you had not felt in a long time. While your instinct was to ensnare him in a tight embrace and perhaps even kiss his cheek, you forced yourself to remain civilized, simply squeezing his hand tightly in thanks before letting go and curtsying to him again.
“My Lord Hand, I cannot find words to express my gratitude,” you said breathlessly. “I have known such kindness very little of late.”
He smiled and reached for you before folding his hand behind his back again. “That, my lady, is a tragedy in itself. Once that I swear I will do everything in my power to end as swiftly as possible.”
“Thank you. I…” words failed you entirely. “Thank you so much.”
“It would perhaps be wise to save the majority of your thanks until after I have discovered a solution,” he jokingly chided. For a long moment, he simply held your gaze. “Now, as much as I hate to do so, I believe it is time to return to your family. I have much work to do.”
“Of course,” you said with another curtsy. There was more you wanted to say, but it was too much to sort through in only a moment. So, you gave him another smile and turned away.
As you walked back toward Gryff – who was looking sinisterly pleased – you were amazed to find that, for the first time in a long time, you weren’t dreading tomorrow.
Tumblr media
Otto left the Great Hall immediately, though it pained him to do so. But he had not wanted to tell her – raise her hopes too soon – that he was fairly certain he had already found a solution. Perhaps the perfect solution.
But he wanted to pray on it first.
It was too late to call a wheelhouse to take him to the Great Sept. Besides, the servants deserved the night to celebrate, as well. So, he made his way instead to the Royal Sept, which had the added benefit of being close to his own chambers.
The Sept was empty, thankfully. It was quick work to light a prayer candle and to place it on an altar Otto had not knelt at for years – the Maiden’s.
“I come to ask your guidance, Holy Maiden,” he prayed aloud. “There is a young widow who needs my help. Very desperately. I believe I can aid her – I know I can aid her. But I must be sure that I am acting rightly.”
He sighed, staring at the gently flickering flame of the candle. “When I first considered her plight, an answer came to me almost instantly, as if it were an instinct. But I worry… I worry that if I choose to enact it, I will be acting not out of charity and generosity but selfishness.
“She is young and very beautiful, and I believe she has a keen mind. And she understands! She knows what it is like to lose a great love – a true love. She is like me; she does not want to marry again. But it seems for both of us that there is no other option. Would it not then… would it not be right for us to marry?
“We can fulfill the desires and expectations of those around us while remaining devoted to our lost loves. I would expect her to fulfill no wifely duties, nor would she expect me to perform mine as a true husband. We would be… companions to each other. Someone with which we can share a life of contentment without feeling as though we have betrayed those who are gone.”
Otto sat back on his knees and looked up at the face of the Maiden. “Would doing so be a sin? Marriage is supposed to be the true joining of souls in holy and eternal love. That is what I had with Madelyn and what I believe she and the late Lord Whitehill had. Would it not betray the very idea of our past marriages to seek the same again?”
He sighed and dropped his head. “I would, of course, not force her hand. If I propose the plan and she refuses, I will dedicate myself to helping her some other way. But I cannot deny that this seems like fate, that the two of us would find each other. So please, Holy Maiden. Please, tell me if I am right.”
For what felt like the entire night, Otto sat on the floor of the Sept, watching the candlelight dance across the marble floor.
Then the dancing stopped.
Bewildered, he looked immediately at the candle. It was still lit, but the flame did not waver. Instead, it was perfectly still and seemed to grow taller and taller.
As if a cool hand lifted his chin, Otto turned his gaze up to the Maiden’s face. Somehow, she seemed to be smiling. A trick of the light, perhaps. But if the light itself was something impossible… Otto snuffed the flame with his fingers, which did not singe as they touched the fire.
He had never received a more explicit answer from the Gods.

Fem Soap does it because she is a u-haul lesbian just being held back by you and/or her commanding officers (they just don’t want to do the paperwork for spousal support and what not when y’all haven’t even dated a month yet) (she blames it on being catholic. It’s not. She’s just a freak who wants her wife to fuck day in and day out)
Fem Price only does it in her head, but she started doing it ok like the second date and is just waiting for her costumized ring order to come through. She’s gonna a ring on your finger and a baby in your belly before the second year anniversary if it kills her.
Fem ghost does it because she owns you (and you own her).
Anon please know you own my heart for this ask... you get me....
Gaz has you in her phone as your wife- little diamond ring emoji next to it and everything. Literally before you hit your six-month anniversary. She calls you it every chance she gets- when you call, she flashes that dazzling smile to those around her saying, "oh, its my wife, gotta take this-"
-and when she makes dinner reservations at restaurants you couldn't dream to afford she puts it under Mrs. & Mrs. Garrick- possessive woman who can't stop thinking about how your first name goes so well with her last name.
-Whenever she comes home there is something so simultaneously arousing and heartwarming to see how your lives have inextricably merged- your toothbrushes in the same cup, your dresser next to hers, even finding your hair on her clothes when she's back on active duty. Seeing your names next to each others on legal documents, whew, it makes her dizzy- filing taxes takes twice the time because she keeps stopping to kiss on your neck.
-Gaz isn't about owning you, or you owning her. It is that solidified partnership. A mutual agreement set in stone, an unbreakable vow, all consuming.
Soap literally is fucking you on the second date (is it even a date- she was set to fly back to base and instead she's cutting it close to making her flight in time because she just had to see you again before she left) and rambling about how you'll love meeting her family this Christmas. Sweaty bodies pressed together and she's musing about a summer wedding while she makes you cum on her fingers. (Fucks your brain out with her strap promising to make an honest woman of you someday soon, make you her bride, G-d as her witness- she misses her flight.)
-GENUINELY when you meet her team for the first time they all have to give you a talk. Please, please, keep your girl on a leash and PLEASE do NOT marry Soap no matter what. They already found a ring in her bags and you've been together maybe three months. (She keeps buying you rings. Says they are promise rings. This is a lie.)
-She takes you to a bar near base and wow... weird... everyone here already knows about you, knows your face. Weirder though they don't know your name- just, "Hey, Johnny's wife is here!" Apparently every time she gets hammered here, she takes out her phone and talks about you to anyone who is willing to listen.
Price plans it all out. You say something innocuous on the second date that settles it for her- you're the one. If Soap is playing sloppy checkers with her girlfriend trying to get her to marry, Price is playing chess with you- and she's always four steps ahead. She keeps it to herself that she calls you her wife, sure, but it doesn't stop her from whispering it to you in your sleep. Kissing your head and saying, "Good morning, my pretty wife."
-She convinces you to be the U-hauler between you. She's got a gorgeous, big house that's vacant most of the year anyways- why not move in? Rent free, it is too good to be true. And if you catch yourself playing housewife, because she can't cook or clean properly to save her life, what's the big deal? She's just so tired when she comes home, pretty eyes full of gratitude when you take care of her. (Before you know it she's got you barefoot and pregnant, fully moved into her house, your wedding photos hung above the fireplace. You wouldn't have it any other way, watching her during her time off painting the nursery.)
Ghost absolutely knows it makes you MELT when she calls you her wife. People always ask, but she knows the hold she's got on you doesn't rely upon government notes or any fancy ceremony. Ghost never really cared to be married, in all honesty. But she sees your eyes brighten when people ask about a wedding, how you look up at her with hope in your eyes. She gets a little dizzy suddenly at the idea of setting her claim on you in stone.
-Genuinely, she broaches the subject when she's fucking you- watches your eyes roll back in your head when she growls out, asking, "You gonna be my pretty little wife, then?" Doesn't let you cum until you agree, tears in your eyes while you're gasping out yes, yes.

Tumblr media
The past four months and a half had been torture for you, it was as if there was an ongoing battle occurring in your brain. You were stuck between a rock and a hard place. The question; "Should I stay or should I go" engrained itself in your head. When finally you'd decided to go through with the divorce.
You'd had the support from your family and friends who assured you that you were doing the right thing. You'd gotten yourself a place not too far from your ex, to ensure Lila wasn't far from her. You had Lila during the week, with Ellie occasionally taking her for weekends, just until your custody date was settled. You'd both come to a mutual agreement that the best thing for the two of you was to seperate. However Ellie still had moments in which she would spiral and try and get you to take her back, but you never complied.
Your sister Nara took it upon herself to fly out to come support you and you couldn't have been happier to have her with you. With the support of her, Joel, Dina and Jesse you felt like a weight had been lifted off your shoulders, like you wouldn't have to be doing it all alone anymore. You also began seeing a therapist, except this time it was on your own, her name was Francine, and she was the best piece of solace you'd had. She'd truly made you feel like you'd be able to heal from all the damage that had been done.
Work was a great distraction, at first Abby had kept her distance and respected your need for space. Until you'd realised she only wanted to be there for you. You'd let her in, little by little only wanting to take things slow. Nothing sexual had happened between the two of you, as you still didn't feel right being touched by anyone other than Ellie. For years she was the only person you'd grown accustomed to and it frightened you to think about letting anyone other than her in.
Going through with the divorce was difficult but you only wanted what was best for Lila, and that was ending the relationship between you and Ellie and beginning a healthy co-parenting one. You knew getting back with Ellie would only mean you'd be in a relationship where you struggled with trust issues and insecurity. You just wanted the two of you to remain civil. That was exactly why you had decided not to fight Ellie for full custody, you'd give her an equal opportunity to bond and build a relationship with her daughter.
-
You can just take a seat over here Ms. Y/LN."  You we're still growing accustomed to not going by Ellie's last name, yours sounding foreign. The attorney as motions to the chair on his right. You hesitantly take a seat, then steal a quick glance at Ellie who is sitting across from you, her lawyer is seated to her left.
"Alright, we may start the proceedings now, Mr. Reynolds would you like to start" her defence asks, as he looks up at your lawyer.
"Sure, as displayed here my client is set on joint custody, with no asks for alimony or spousal support, she want's this to be fair and easy"
Ellie looks up at you in relief and visibly relaxes in her seat. You steal a glance at her but quickly look to the floor, to avoid making any further eye contact. You were a nervous wreck, the lump in your throat making you feel the need to scratch yourself, bite your nails, anything to make time pass.
"Ok, well if that is the case, Mrs. Williams would like to have her daughter on Friday to Sundays, due to work scheduling, is that okay with the defendant?" You nod your head at your lawyer, and he proceeds.
"Yes, my client is okay with that, however I'd like to discuss the deeds of the house. The two of them bought this house with the intent of sharing 50-50 assets, her name is on the papers so how would the defendant like to settle that?" You finally bring your gaze up to see Ellie, who's eyes were already on yours. She was fidgeting with her wedding ring, which she was still wearing despite your divorce being finalised weeks ago.
"My client doesn't mind, Mrs. Williams says Y/n can have the house, after all she will be the primary caretaker of their daughter" her lawyer says and you finally take it upon yourself to be vocal.
"I don't want it" you say, voice low and barely above a whisper, and your attorney turns to you with a glare. "We talked about this Y/n, this is a great deal for you" he whispers and you shake your head.
"No, I'd like for her to keep it, and I want my name off of the papers" you say aloud, and Ellie's hands visibly tense. It was the first time in months she had heard you speak more than three words. You try fighting back tears, but of course they come, flowing freely down your face and you wipe them in embarrassment.
"Alright, then that's settles it, anything else you'd like to discuss?" Her defence asks and your lawyer shakes his head no. The both of them stand up and shake hands, and your lawyer walks you out of the room, to congratulate you.
-
"Thank you Mr. Reynolds, I'm glad you were able to make it as easy and as fast as possible" He smiles and pats your shoulders.
"Please, call me Matt and its what I do, I'm just glad you got your clarity" his phone begins to vibrate and he picks it out of his pocket to respond.
"Im, sorry Y/N but it's my sons school I've got to get going, but I'm glad everything worked out in your favour"
"Thats fine, and once again thank you so much for everything" you wave him goodbye as he speed walks down the steps of the courthouse and you are left standing there in the heat, as you wait for your sister to come pick you up.
"Y/n?" you know who's voice it is, never in a million years would your forget her voice, and immediately you tense up at the touch of her hand that was on your shoulder.
"Can we talk?" Ellie asks, and you promptly remove her hand from your shoulder, leaving her red from embarrassment.
"I said everything I needed to, inside there Ellie" you refuse to make eye contact with her and she sighs desperately. She wears a simple black suit, the button of her blazer was left unopened and she had cut her hair a tad bit shorter than usual.
"I'm sorry, I don't know how many times I have to say it but I truly am sorry, I love you Y/n" she whispers, with tears in her eyes.
"You lied to me Ellie, we went to therapy and the whole time you were lying to me, you made me feel like a fool"
"I was doing it for your own good, I thought what you didn't know couldn't hurt you" You scoff and take a step down the stairs, desperately needing some space.
"Yeah cause it was 100 times easier to hear of your infidelity from Amelia" you spit, with sarcasm, the disdain for her ex-lover evident in your voice.
"I- Y/n she didn't mean anyth-" she tries but you cut her off swiftly.
"Don't fucking lie to my face and tell me she meant nothing, cause I know she did" Ellie sighs in frustration and runs a hand through her hair.
"I'm sorry" she whispers again, for what felt like the 1 millionth time.
"You can say sorry as many times as you'd like but I won't forgive you. You got the house, you've got your sanity and you get to see Lila, just let me be." You say and before she can continue, you get a message from Nara telling you she was here.
"I'm leaving now Ellie, I hope you're happy"
-
"Why the fuck, did you let her take the house?" Your sister was grilling you as the two of you sat on the balcony of her hotel room, sipping on red wine.
"Nara, that house, I couldn't take even if I wanted to, the memories are just too much." You confess, as you glance at the view of the waterfront. Her words are tuned out as you gaze at the sailboats, as they paraded down the canal. One by one, they went and you watched in awe as the catamaran's glided on the dark blue body of water.
"Y/n?"
"Y/n?" Nara calls a second time, but you are entranced by the sailboats.
"I think I wan't to buy a catamaran" you blurt out, as you are broken out of your trance and she stares at you in disbelief.
"You hate the water" she laughs as she pours, more wine into your half empty glass and you bring it to your lips, taking a sip.
"People change" you mutter under your breath, she proceeds to put her hand in yours and the rest of your evening is spent in comfortable silence, indulged in glasses of wine, and the sound of crashing waves and friendly chatter from the hotel bar.
-
"Momma, when is mommy coming back?" Lila questions, from the sofa, where she was seated with a small brown doll in her lap.
Ellie looks up from her laptop, where she was completing some documents from work and swallows thickly. This was the part that you and her hadn't discussed, the part where you find the right thing to say to your 3 year old kid.
"Mommy's not coming honey, she'll come pick you up tomorrow" she shuts her laptop lid, and walks over to the sofa to sit with her.
"But mommy and momma sleep together and I sleep in my bed?" She mumbles, the young girl trying to piece together why her mothers had stopped sleeping in the same house and bed.
"Now mommy and momma sleep in their own beds, my love" Ellie soothingly rubs her back and lifts her into her lap. Where the rest of the movie they watch is complete in sheer silence. Lila falls asleep, on the sofa and she takes her up to the room, to sleep with her as she couldn't bare the feeling of being alone.
"I love you honey, when I'm awake and when I sleep, I love you" she whispers into her daughters hair, as she kisses her goodnight.
-
"Pink please, momma" Lila says as she holds her hand out. The two of them had been playing all afternoon and she couldn't have been happier. If it weren't for the time she got to spend with her daughter she wasn't sure she'd survive the separation.
"Here you go baby" Ellie immediately grabs the thick crayon and places it in the toddlers hand and she accepts it graciously.
"Ok, almost done, don't look yet" she says in a serious tone, and she knows to not look, as the last thing she needed was a tantrum from her sassy daughter.
"Pleaseee, can I look now?" She asks and Lila sighs dramatically and lifts the paper quickly to her chest.
"Ok fine, ready?" Ellie nods and when Lila turns the paper towards her with a nervous giggle.
"Wow... it's beautiful honey" She can feel tears brimming from her eyes and she has to fight to keep them from spilling. She had drawn a messy yet clear picture of the three of you holding hands. With the labels "Momma" "Mommy" and "Me".
"Do I get to keep it, baby?" She asks as she lifts her from the stool and pulls her into her embrace and she nods with a wide grin on her face.
Shortly after she had packed up the crayons and began to pack up her toys, Ellie was startled by a few knocks at the door. Lila perks up from the couch and runs over to the door and she has to speed walk to stop her from answering it.
"Mommy!" The toddler screams as she reaches her hands up for her mother and you instantly pick her up, showering her in kisses. She then notices her aunt and does the same, to which Nara pecks her cheek and smiles.
"Hi Y/n, Nara good to see you again" Nara ignores her and you mutter a simple "Hi" as you avoid eye contact, something you had started doing ever since the day you had found out about her cheating.
"Is her bag packed?" You ask and she mentally curses herself for forgetting that you'd be coming to pick Lila up so soon.
"Uhhh no, but I can do it real quick"
"It's fine, she'll get them next time" you trail off as you nervously look too your sister who nods. She looks at the both of you and you hand Lila to Nara.
"Lila say bye to your mom" Nara finally speaks and the young child kisses Ellie goodbye and is led off to the car by her aunt.
"Can we talk Ellie?" You ask and her heart rate speeds up, she's not sure if you had forgiven her, or if you had changed your mind on the divorce but she had positive hopes, as this was the first time since the split that you had asked to speak to her alone.
-
"So you bought a house?" She tries to make sense of your words.
"Yeah, it's not far from here so we don't have to drive too long and it's close to her preschool." She nods at your words and shifts uncomfortably, the silence killing the both of you.
"So I'll be coming back tomorrow to come pick up all my stuff, her stuff can stay here, I'll buy her new shit that'll stay at my place" you say.
"I wish you didn't have to do all of this, Y/n" she finally breaks her silence and you're left scoffing.
"I did this? That's rich coming from the person who cheated on me" you laugh maniacally as she looks at you in disbelief.
"I know, it's my fault. I can't even apologise because I know it won't make a difference but I won't stop fighting to get you back." You shake your head and get up, having had enough of her words.
"I mean it Y/n I'm not going to stop until I get you back"
"Good luck with that Ellie"
-
Abby was in her office when she'd gotten a text from your personal contact. You'd never texted her from your personal phone before so she was surprised. The past few months the two of you had spent friendly time together. She knew you'd wanted space, to take things slow, so she gave you exactly that. She didn't want to screw her only chance up.
'Can you come to my office please, it's urgent.'
She was worried something had happened so immediately she got up and rushed to your office down the hall. She knocked on the door and heard a light "Come in" As soon as she entered you'd gotten off of your seat walking towards her. You grabbed her face down towards yours and began kissing her fervently. She was stuck in place, not believing if this was real or she was dreaming. You were desperately clawing at her biceps, pulling her towards the sofa that was against your office wall.
"What's this about?" She mumbles into your mouth as you push your tongue into her mouth, grinding against her vigorously.
"It's a celebration, I'm a free woman and I think it's time I let you fuck me" Her stomach lurches at your words and she can't help but let out a hard moan.
"Should we be doing this here, what if someone comes in" she smiles as she unbuttons your satin blouse, peppering kisses against your neck.
"We can discuss all the ways that this is wrong after you've thoroughly fucked me" you don't know what's gotten into you, but you needed to feel her inside you or else you’d combust.
You were tired of waiting. Ellie had had her fun for five months straight, so why couldn't you? You'd waited until your divorce, kept Abby hanging but that was not how things were going to go now. It was finally time you focused on what was good for you.

Good things seem to happen to bad people, don’t you think? Someone like Eric Cartman. What if Adult!Reader starts dating Laine Cartman? That would mean platonic yandere Eric would be the closest to reader, making the rest of the kids and parents very jealous, especially Kyle thinking its not fair the Cartman gets everything and he gets nothing. How would Cartman act around reader compare to how he usually acts? Would he share with others? What do the others think? I hope you have a wonderful day❤️
Kyle thinks the universe is playing a cruel, cruel joke on him when he finds out that Cartman’s mom is dating the Reader. It doesn’t help that Eric makes every point to rub it in Kyle’s face too. The boys would all be invited over more than usual just to bear witness to the Reader being in the Cartman home, taking on a parental and spousal role for Eric and Liane respectively. And Eric loves every minute of shoving it down everyone’s throats that he won and the Reader is now a part of his family.
Hell, even Liane is loving every second of showing off her and the Reader’s relationship to the other parents. And if she can she’ll get pregnant with the Reader’s child as soon as possible just to tie them down for sure. Even if the Reader is a woman, Liane will find a way to have their child and as many of them as possible, although Eric may not take too well to not being the only kid for his mom and the Reader to put all their time and attention into.
Eric overall would act like a perfect little angel when in the presence of the Reader, to the point where he may even have the Reader wrapped around his finger and completely under the belief that this is how Eric is. He’s on his best behavior and plays his part well to keep the Reader from having any reason to leave Eric and his mom. Given his usual actions and behavior, Eric wouldn’t want that to drive the Reader off and I’m sure Liane has brought it up as something that may cause the Reader to abandon them which in turn would have Eric doing his damndest to not let that happen so he’ll be the best boy he can muster to be. But when the Reader isn’t around, Eric has no problem reverting back to his normal self and back to his old shenanigans. It absolutely disgusts Stan, Kyle and Kenny to no end, making them try even harder to get the Reader to become a part of their respective families and away from Eric.
Also, when Liane started up her own obsession for the Reader while trying to seduce them for her son and bring them into the family, Eric was not ready for having to share the Reader’s time and attention with her. It had never crossed his mind that he would have to share at all, especially with his own mom. He just thought this would mean that he won, the darling was all his now and he got to rub it in everyone’s faces. There would end up being an unspoken competition between Eric and his mom for the Reader’s attention and affections. A slight rivalry that takes place pretty early on but eventually the mother and son duo come to some kind of agreement. Or maybe Eric will remain petty and determined enough to keep fighting his mom on this? After all, he didn’t exactly sign up to share with her.🤷🏻‍♀️

WIP Wednesday:
modern AU divorced Obikin (getting back together eventually. but not yet.) This is the beginning of the fic I'm currently working on.
They did not have a messy divorce. They had a messy breakup but the actual divorce – the legal act – was a surprisingly civil affair. After everything which had happened it was weirdly anticlimactic. Maybe because Obi-Wan looked so tired with the dark circles under his eyes, and his neatly pressed suit seemed too loose on his body, like he had not eaten enough for weeks. Maybe because Obi-Wan agreed to all of Anakin’s demands, and that in turn made Anakin stop putting forward more and more outlandish requests, because he was not in it for the money. He did not need any spousal support from Obi-Wan, thank you very much, he was an adult and could get by on his own. So they went with everything the lawyer suggested, no more fights, even though Anakin was itching to pick a fight every time they met with the lawyer, anything to get some emotion out of Obi-Wan. To think that Obi-Wan had given up on them, on Anakin, still hurt but was not much of a surprise. But that Anakin was not even worth Obi-Wan’s anger anymore was worse.
There had been too many meetings like this (partly due to the fact that they had not thought they needed a prenuptial agreement, which made everything more complicated now): they had to listen to legal instructions, sign countless documents, exchange a few stilted words – never more than necessary: Obi-Wan in a low voice and without looking at Anakin whereas Anakin was boiling inside with rage.
And now, the final act. They had been waiting in the bare corridor for ten endlessly long minutes. Anakin was playing a stupid game on his phone to somehow pass the time and to give his restless hands something to do. It was not on mute: a final fuck you to Obi-Wan, along with the crumpled t-shirt and torn jeans he had carefully chosen to wear today. Two could play this game. Anakin would show him that he did not care either: that this day did not warrant a suit.
“Thank you for not pressing charges.”
Anakin jumped. Obi-Wan’s voice was quiet but he could as well have shouted. For a moment, Anakin completely forgot about his game. His heart was beating in his throat.
“I didn’t do it for you. I just told them the truth.”
Obi-Wan nodded, still without meeting Anakin’s eyes. “Still… It would have been easy.”
How could he! “Thank you for implying I’m such an asshole,” Anakin snapped. Obi-Wan shrugged and turned away – and said nothing else. Anakin wanted to grab him, shake him, shout at him, anything to get a reaction out of him. He was breathing heavily, trying to control himself.
“Mr. Kenobi, Mr. Skywalker.” The lawyer opened her door. “Please come in.”
From then on, every moment seemed to happen in slow-motion, every detail burning itself into Anakin’s mind. The lawyer explained the proceedings again, asked them once more if they still wanted to finalise the divorce (they both answered ‘yes’ in a cruel mockery of their wedding vows) and then it was time to sign the last document. Obi-Wan was first. He grabbed the pen and, without any hesitation, signed his name on the last page. Anakin almost gasped. Obi-Wan was still wearing his wedding ring. What the fuck? Why would he wear his wedding ring while signing the divorce papers? Anakin had not worn his for months, had viciously shoved it into the very back of his drawer to never see it again. Secretly he had always waited for Obi-Wan to show up, for one more fight, so Anakin could throw the ring at his feet in a dramatic gesture.
Now, Anakin reached for the pen (which Obi-Wan did not even hand to him, just placed it on the table between them) and, with a shaking hand, scribbled his name next to Obi-Wan’s. One last time: the names ‘Kenobi’ and ‘Skywalker’ next to each other.
“Alright then,” the lawyer said. “It’s done.”
Obi-Wan pulled the ring from his finger to give it to her. She chuckled.
“Oh, no, I don’t take the rings. I mean, it would be a nice extra income if all my clients gave me their wedding rings but I’m afraid I’m not allowed to accept them.”
“Then what do I do with it?” Obi-Wan asked, the frown between his brows deepening. Anakin had once thought it charming. Now he had seen it too often as a sign of frustration or criticism.
“That is entirely up to you,” the lawyer said. “The ring still belongs to you. In the end, it is nothing but a symbol, not legally binding.”
“I see.” Obi-Wan stared at the ring, clearly at a loss as to what to do with it. Then, slowly, he put it into the pocket of his suit.
Anakin could not endure it anymore. He stood up abruptly and left the room, hurried through the corridor and outside, where he could finally breathe again in the crisp autumn air. What came out of his mouth was a stifled sob. He pressed a hand against his mouth and staggered towards a bench where he sank down.
Then the tears started to flow. Bitter, hopeless tears. He could do nothing to stop them. They – he had thought Obi-Wan was the love of his life, they had promised each other forever, and now he was alone again, and it was worse than before because now he had lost: he had lost Obi-Wan, his belief in love and all hope.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw a single person leaving the building: Obi-Wan. Anakin did not try anymore to put up a façade: no anger, no pretend casualness. Let Obi-Wan see him like this. He had nothing left to loose.
For a short moment, their eyes met. Obi-Wan stopped, and for one crazy moment Anakin thought Obi-Wan would come to him, sweep him up in his arms, they would cry and apologise and kiss love declarations into tearstained skin and would try again because in the end love always won, didn’t it?
But Obi-Wan did not cry. His face was set in stone. The moment passed. He averted his gaze, turned his back on Anakin and walked away.

Marriage of (IN)Convenience, Chapter 2: Save the Date
I have the sneaking suspicion we’re going to break containment on the five chapter limit i set…. As well as the march 31st finish goal.
title: Marriage of (IN)Convenience, Chapter 2: Save the Date
Fandom: Hawaii 5-0
Pairing: McDanno (Steve McGarrett/Daniel Williams), past mention of Danny Williams/Rachel Edwards
Fic Summary:
Steve finds marriage expedient to their goals. Danny finds it inconvenient and alarming and is surprised it works to get him split custody of his daughter. The other spousal privileges are a definite plus, but Danny’s still pretty sure he’s getting the better end of the deal than Steve is.
Or: How to Catch and Woo Your Danno, by Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett
Chapter summary:
Steve recruits a willing co-conspirator or two in his campaign.
Tags/warnings: explicit sex, mentions of prior infidelity (Rachel’s when she left Danny—not McDanno)
Tumblr media
Having secured Danny’s agreement to marry him, Steve doesn’t hesitate to continue his offensive the next day, taking advantage of Danny’s surprise to claim even more territory. They’re at the International Market Place, looking into a string of robberies that are technically a bit below 5-0’s official mandate. Still, Steve doesn’t mind taking the case off HPD’s hands while they’re between major cases. Kono and Chin are also doing some canvassing while Steve and Danny visit the stores on level one.  The Martin and MacArthur store has a display in the window that catches Steve’s eye. It’s a beautiful display of jewelry incorporating koa—a native Hawaiian wood, a type of acacia.  “Babe,” Danny growls, the back of his hand batting at Steve’s chest as he tries to get Steve’s attention. “What are you looking at?” “How do you feel about rings?”
