Vladco Heiress
dpxdc au with Serious Chaos, background Danny/Sam
Vlad gets an officially trial because of a domino effect caused by him releasing Pariah Dark. The release of the old king was such a scare to the Realms population, with him being extremely powerful and having committed grave atrocities towards the end of his reign, it led to the ancients, observant and the majority of the inhabitants of the Realms deciding that they need to create a functional government to prevent something like this happening again and to keep the Realms safe. However, forming a working government and catching Vlad to get him trialed takes time so Kindered Spirits still happens. Vlad's trial has thousands of angry ghosts watching from the sidelines while the judge announces a long of crimes the council of Ancients found him guilty of and then presents the supporting rock hard evidence. His sentence is being souped for the next 600 years - which a lot of ghosts still think too lenient.
When Danny defeated Pariah Dark he became the rightful ghost king but Clockwork told him that the council of ancients can act as the main governing body in the IR for now and suggested that Danny could take over Vladco (Vlad left to Danny in him will) to gain experience for when he becomes king.
After a few years, Elysium "Ellie" Phantom decides to return to Amity, partially because she already traveled the entire globe and partially because she feels safe being in Amity now that Vlad is gone and she's had time to work through her trauma. Her travels have made her a great negotiator so Danny decides to name her heiress. Officially Danny is CEO but Ellie handles most of the CEO's responsibilities (being the face of the company, has meeting with shareholders, discuss projects with other CEOs/representative of other companies) while Danny acts more like a COO (oversees different operations, facilitates communication between departments, coordinates product manufacturing and quality control).
Damian starts investigating Dalvco and Ellie specifically after she approaches him at a gala hosted by the Wayne family in Gotham. Dalvoco was probably on the bats radar as a sketchy company and they suspected something shady was going on - either because of Vlad's business strategy in general or due to ties to Lex Luthor - but other things kept taking priority considering the craziness of ghotam, how often villains try to destroy/take over the world and the lack of hard evidence of Vlad's wrong doing - they just felt something was off. Plus, Danny is a recluse, staying in Amity and avoiding the media, so when they saw Ellie the batfam is kinda hit in the face that yeah this company does still exist and hey look it looks even more shady now (Vlad just disappeared out of nowhere and a kid who he allegedly had an VERY antagonistic relationship with inherited his company).
#this entire idea spawned because I wanted serious chaos ballroom dancing#put my girl is a huge#sparkling ballgown#there is also some background Danny/sam with sam coming to an compromise with her parents that she will attend events and stuff#BUT she can fund/create a bunch of enviromental initiatives#dc x dp#danny phantom#dani phantom#danielle phantom#ellie phantom#serious chaos#Vladco heiress

Apple fucked us on right to repair (again)
Today (September 22), I'm (virtually) presenting at the DIG Festival in Modena, Italy. Tonight, I'll be in person at LA's Book Soup for the launch of Justin C Key's "The World Wasn’t Ready for You." On September 27, I'll be at Chevalier's Books in Los Angeles with Brian Merchant for a joint launch for my new book The Internet Con and his new book, Blood in the Machine.
Right to repair has no cannier, more dedicated adversary than Apple, a company whose most innovative work is dreaming up new ways to sneakily sabotage electronics repair while claiming to be a caring environmental steward, a lie that covers up the mountains of e-waste that Apple dooms our descendants to wade through.
Why does Apple hate repair so much? It's not that they want to poison our water and bodies with microplastics; it's not that they want to hasten the day our coastal cities drown; it's not that they relish the human misery that accompanies every gram of conflict mineral. They aren't sadists. They're merely sociopathically greedy.
Tim Cook laid it out for his investors: when people can repair their devices, they don't buy new ones. When people don't buy new devices, Apple doesn't sell them new devices. It's that's simple:
https://www.inverse.com/article/52189-tim-cook-says-apple-faces-2-key-problems-in-surprising-shareholder-letter
So Apple does everything it can to monopolize repair. Not just because this lets the company gouge you on routine service, but because it lets them decide when your phone is beyond repair, so they can offer you a trade-in, ensuring both that you buy a new device and that the device you buy is another Apple.
There are so many tactics Apple gets to use to sabotage repair. For example, Apple engraves microscopic Apple logos on the subassemblies in its devices. This allows the company to enlist US Customs to seize and destroy refurbished parts that are harvested from dead phones by workers in the Pacific Rim:
https://repair.eu/news/apple-uses-trademark-law-to-strengthen-its-monopoly-on-repair/
Of course, the easiest way to prevent harvested components from entering the parts stream is to destroy as many old devices as possible. That's why Apple's so-called "recycling" program shreds any devices you turn over to them. When you trade in your old iPhone at an Apple Store, it is converted into immortal e-waste (no other major recycling program does this). The logic is straightforward: no parts, no repairs:
https://www.vice.com/en/article/yp73jw/apple-recycling-iphones-macbooks
Shredding parts and cooking up bogus trademark claims is just for starters, though. For Apple, the true anti-repair innovation comes from the most pernicious US tech law: Section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
DMCA 1201 is an "anti-circumvention" law. It bans the distribution of any tool that bypasses "an effective means of access control." That's all very abstract, but here's what it means: if a manufacturer sticks some Digital Rights Management (DRM) in its device, then anything you want to do that involves removing that DRM is now illegal – even if the thing itself is perfectly legal.
When Congress passed this stupid law in 1998, it had a very limited blast radius. Computers were still pretty expensive and DRM use was limited to a few narrow categories. In 1998, DMCA 1201 was mostly used to prevent you from de-regionalizing your DVD player to watch discs that had been released overseas but not in your own country.
But as we warned back then, computers were only going to get smaller and cheaper, and eventually, it would only cost manufacturers pennies to wrap their products – or even subassemblies in their products – in DRM. Congress was putting a gun on the mantelpiece in Act I, and it was bound to go off in Act III.
Welcome to Act III.
Today, it costs about a quarter to add a system-on-a-chip to even the tiniest parts. These SOCs can run DRM. Here's how that DRM works: when you put a new part in a device, the SOC and the device's main controller communicate with one another. They perform a cryptographic protocol: the part says, "Here's my serial number," and then the main controller prompts the user to enter a manufacturer-supplied secret code, and the master controller sends a signed version of this to the part, and the part and the system then recognize each other.
This process has many names, but because it was first used in the automotive sector, it's widely known as VIN-Locking (VIN stands for "vehicle identification number," the unique number given to every car by its manufacturer). VIN-locking is used by automakers to block independent mechanics from repairing your car; even if they use the manufacturer's own parts, the parts and the engine will refuse to work together until the manufacturer's rep keys in the unlock code:
https://pluralistic.net/2023/07/24/rent-to-pwn/#kitt-is-a-demon
VIN locking is everywhere. It's how John Deere stops farmers from fixing their own tractors – something farmers have done literally since tractors were invented:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/05/08/about-those-kill-switched-ukrainian-tractors/
It's in ventilators. Like mobile phones, ventilators are a grotesquely monopolized sector, controlled by a single company Medtronic, whose biggest claim to fame is effecting the world's largest tax inversion in order to manufacture the appearance that it is an Irish company and therefore largely untaxable. Medtronic used the resulting windfall to gobble up most of its competitors.
During lockdown, as hospitals scrambled to keep their desperately needed supply of ventilators running, Medtronic's VIN-locking became a lethal impediment. Med-techs who used donor parts from one ventilator to keep another running – say, transplanting a screen – couldn't get the device to recognize the part because all the world's civilian aircraft were grounded, meaning Medtronic's technicians couldn't swan into their hospitals to type in the unlock code and charge them hundreds of dollars.
The saving grace was an anonymous, former Medtronic repair tech, who built pirate boxes to generate unlock codes, using any housing they could lay hands on to use as a case: guitar pedals, clock radios, etc. This tech shipped these gadgets around the world, observing strict anonymity, because Article 6 of the EUCD also bans circumvention:
https://pluralistic.net/2020/07/10/flintstone-delano-roosevelt/#medtronic-again
Of course, Apple is a huge fan of VIN-locking. In phones, VIN-locking is usually called "serializing" or "parts-pairing," but it's the same thing: a tiny subassembly gets its own microcontroller whose sole purpose is to prevent independent repair technicians from fixing your gadget. Parts-pairing lets Apple block repairs even when the technician uses new, Apple parts – but it also lets Apple block refurb parts and third party parts.
For many years, Apple was the senior partner and leading voice in blocking state Right to Repair bills, which it killed by the dozen, leading a coalition of monopolists, from Wahl (who boobytrap their hair-clippers with springs that cause their heads irreversibly decompose if you try to sharpen them at home) to John Deere (who reinvented tenant farming by making farmers tenants of their tractors, rather than their land).
But Apple's opposition to repair eventually became a problem for the company. It's bad optics, and both Apple customers and Apple employees are volubly displeased with the company's ecocidal conduct. But of course, Apple's management and shareholders hate repair and want to block it as much as possible.
But Apple knows how to Think Differently. It came up with a way to eat its cake and have it, too. The company embarked on a program of visibly support right to repair, while working behind the scenes to sabotage it.
Last year, Apple announced a repair program. It was hilarious. If you wanted to swap your phone's battery, all you had to do was let Apple put a $1200 hold on your credit card, and then wait while the company shipped you 80 pounds' worth of specialized tools, packed in two special Pelican cases:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/05/22/apples-cement-overshoes/
Then, you swapped your battery, but you weren't done! After your battery was installed, you had to conference in an authorized Apple tech who would tell you what code to type into a laptop you tethered to the phone in order to pair it with your phone. Then all you had to do was lug those two 40-pound Pelican cases to a shipping depot and wait for Apple to take the hold off your card (less the $120 in parts and fees).
By contrast, independent repair outfits like iFixit will sell you all the tools you need to do your own battery swap – including the battery! for $32. The whole kit fits in a padded envelope:
https://www.ifixit.com/products/iphone-x-replacement-battery
But while Apple was able to make a showy announcement of its repair program and then hide the malicious compliance inside those giant Pelican cases, sabotaging right to repair legislation is a lot harder.
Not that they didn't try. When New York State passed the first general electronics right-to-repair bill in the country, someone convinced New York Governor Kathy Hochul to neuter it with last-minute modifications:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2022/12/weakened-right-to-repair-bill-is-signed-into-law-by-new-yorks-governor/
But that kind of trick only works once. When California's right to repair bill was introduced, it was clear that it was gonna pass. Rather than get run over by that train, Apple got on board, supporting the legislation, which passed unanimously:
https://www.ifixit.com/News/79902/apples-u-turn-tech-giant-finally-backs-repair-in-california
But Apple got the last laugh. Because while California's bill contains many useful clauses for the independent repair shops that keep your gadgets out of a landfill, it's a state law, and DMCA 1201 is federal. A state law can't simply legalize the conduct federal law prohibits. California's right to repair bill is a banger, but it has a weak spot: parts-pairing, the scourge of repair techs:
https://www.ifixit.com/News/69320/how-parts-pairing-kills-independent-repair
Every generation of Apple devices does more parts-pairing than the previous one, and the current models are so infested with paired parts as to be effectively unrepairable, except by Apple. It's so bad that iFixit has dropped its repairability score for the iPhone 14 from a 7 ("recommend") to a 4 (do not recommend):
https://www.ifixit.com/News/82493/we-are-retroactively-dropping-the-iphones-repairability-score-en
Parts-pairing is bullshit, and Apple are scum for using it, but they're hardly unique. Parts-pairing is at the core of the fuckery of inkjet printer companies, who use it to fence out third-party ink, so they can charge $9,600/gallon for ink that pennies to make:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2020/11/ink-stained-wretches-battle-soul-digital-freedom-taking-place-inside-your-printer
Parts-pairing is also rampant in powered wheelchairs, a heavily monopolized sector whose predatory conduct is jaw-droppingly depraved:
https://uspirgedfund.org/reports/usp/stranded
But if turning phones into e-waste to eke out another billion-dollar stock buyback is indefensible, stranding people with disabilities for months at a time while they await repairs is so obviously wicked that the conscience recoils. That's why it was so great when Colorado passed the nation's first wheelchair right to repair bill last year:
https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2022/06/when-drm-comes-your-wheelchair
California actually just passed two right to repair bills; the other one was SB-271, which mirrors Colorado's HB22-1031:
https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202320240SB271
This is big! It's momentum! It's a start!
But it can't be the end. When Bill Clinton signed DMCA 1201 into law 25 years ago, he loaded a gun and put it on the nation's mantlepiece and now it's Act III and we're all getting sprayed with bullets. Everything from ovens to insulin pumps, thermostats to lightbulbs, has used DMCA 1201 to limit repair, modification and improvement.
Congress needs to rid us of this scourge, to let us bring back all the benefits of interoperability. I explain how this all came to be – and what we should do about it – in my new Verso Books title, The Internet Con: How to Seize the Means of Computation.

district 6 headcanons! 🚂
yeah, i'm a d6 fan too!!! sue me! here are my top hcs that i use for worldbuilding. if you've read my fic, "o children", then you'll recognize a lot of these things.
industry things
district 6 has many industries involving transportation. oil rigging companies, vehicle manufacturing factories (that they call 'manu-factories' for short), exporters and importers, etc..
exporters and importers get to travel outside of the district for a few weeks at a time, but their activity is monitored by peacekeepers quite heavily.
exporters and importers have the most access to morphling, and consume it more too. of course, there's rings that trade it and such, but people (and those in different districts) usually get their fixes through them.
i can imagine d6 being a work accident prone district. falling off trains, spilling oil, falling manufactured parts, etc..
as part of my fic, there's also an underground boxing ring ran by the peacekeepers to keep themselves entertained, but also to put money in the pockets of those who might not wanna end up in prison and need an... alternative to jail time. i hc that other districts have it too! maybe in d2?
^ OOH! speaking of which, what if career districts developed it into academies while others had it die down/kept more on the down low?
places
VERY polluted district. like, they have to have air purifiers in their homes and wear "outdoor masks" made out of cloth around their faces type of polluted. i also think districts that manufacture things -- like 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 12 -- also have a smilar problem.
i think the problem is concentrated more on the urban areas or people who live next to the factories/train stations.
apparently their population is larger than the average district, according to the fandom wiki, so i imagine that the poorer section of the district live near the factories in large apartment buildings. a neighborhood that i've created is called "farren heights".
meanwhile, the richer folks lived in townhouses/rowhouses. they have more of their own space, but the houses are still very, very squished together. another neighborhood i've created is called "peregrine court".
between the two is their marketplace/commercial area called "traveler's square". of course, they'll have their own shops in their respective neighborhoods, but it's not as plentiful as traveler's square. they need those spaces to create new apartment units or housing developments for the growing population. TS brings them together as it has all the fun pubs, shops, etc..
i think they travel within the district via a smaller metro/train system!
i also believe that due to their growing population, and because not everyone can afford the rent, they have a group of people they call "vagabonds". they build their own homes, but because of the expenses, they don't have their own purifiers. they are the most affected by the pollution.
cultural influences?!
DISCLAIMER: i don't claim being part of the cultures mentioned, so if anyone wants to drop some info, feel free to comment or send an ask so that i can incorporate it into my d6 lore! <3
german and indigenous algonquin are their dominant cultures. (hugest shout out to @pottershawkinswp and @wxstfulthoughts for helping me with the german stuff TM).
this is b/c there was a big migration of german people in this region some time ago. and the indigenous tribes that occupy these lands are algonquin!
the more minor cultures are black and latino! this is because of the fact that they have a very, very small portion of illinois/chicago according to the fandom wiki 😜
potatoes are their main source of carbs. and they have a lot of german-style foods like cheese soup, cold breakfast, etc..
along with travel/manufacture themed names, i also think some people have german influences in their names or surnames.
as for indigenous influence, i can see the youngsters referring to the older people as "elders". they also definitely pass down cultures through story-telling or word of mouth.
i also think they have a cryptid called the W. nothing else to the name, just the W. it's known today as the w*ndigo, but b/c i'm scared TM of the taboo that saying its name will bring it closer to you, i will not say it 😇 over time, the name was forgotten and just became known as the singular letter!
those of indigenous descent would keep their hair long in braids. i believe beading is implemented into their clothes too :)
these folks definitely line dance, a bit of jazz, bit of freestyling. very lively and very rowdy, free, etc.. they're there for a good time, not a long one!
HEAR ME OUT: district 6 greasers. i'm talking the outsiders, random fights, overly gelled hair, cigarette in mouth, and greaser v. socs battles in very sketchy alleyways.
yeah! that's all i have off the top of my head. this was longer than i thought 😭 feel free to incorporate these into your own d6 lore, but yeah! i 💜 district 6

The Truth About Corporate Subsidies
Why won't big American corporations do what's right for America unless the government practically bribes them?
And why is the government so reluctant to regulate them?
Prior to the 1980’s, the U.S. government demanded that corporations act in the public interest.
For example, the Clean Air Act of 1970 stopped companies from polluting our air by regulating them.
Fast forward to 2022, when the biggest piece of legislation aimed at combating the climate crisis allocates billions of dollars in subsidies to clean energy producers.
Notice the difference?
Both are important steps to combating climate change.
But they illustrate the nation’s shift away from regulating businesses to subsidizing them.
It’s a trend that’s characterized every recent administration.
The CHIPS Act –– another major initiative of the Biden administration –– shelled out $52 billion in subsidies to semiconductor firms.
Donald Trump’s “Operation Warp Speed” delivered over $10 billion in subsidies to COVID vaccine manufacturers.
Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act subsidized the health care and pharmaceutical industries.
George W. Bush and Obama bailed out Wall Street following the 2008 economic crash while providing about $80 billion in rescue funds for GM and Chrysler.
And the federal government has been subsidizing big oil and gas companies for decades, to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars.
Before the Reagan era, it was usually the case that America regulated rather than subsidized big business to ensure the wellbeing of the American public.
The Great Depression and FDR’s Administration created an alphabet soup of regulatory agencies the SEC, FCC, FHA, and so on — that regulated businesses.
Corporations were required to produce public goods, or avoid public “bads” like a financial meltdown, as conditions for staying in business.
If this regulatory alternative seems far-fetched today, that’s because of how far we’ve come from a regulatory state to a subsidy state.
Today it’s politically difficult, if not impossible, for government to demand that corporations bear the costs of public goods. The government still regulates businesses, of course –– but one of the biggest things it does is subsidize them. Just look at the growth of government subsidies to business over the past half century.
The reason for this shift is corporations now have more political clout than ever before.
Industries that spend the most on lobbying and campaign contributions have often benefited greatly from this shift from regulation to subsidy.
Now, subsidies aren’t inherently bad. Important technological advances have been made because of government funding.
But subsidies are a problem when few, if any, conditions are attached — so there’s no guarantee that benefits reach the American people.
What good is subsidizing the healthcare industry when millions of Americans have medical debt and can’t afford insurance? What good are subsidies for oil companies when they price gouge at the pump and destroy the planet? What good are subsidies for profitable semiconductor manufacturers when they’re global companies with no allegiance to America?
We’re left with a system where costs are socialized, profits are privatized.
Now, fixing this might seem daunting — but we’re not powerless. Here’s what we can do to make sure our government actually works for the people, not just the powerful.
First, make all subsidies conditional, so that any company getting money from the government must clearly specify what it will be spent on – so we can ensure the funds actually help the public.
Second, ban stock buybacks so companies can’t use the subsidies to pump up their profits and stock prices.
Third, empower regulatory agencies to do the jobs they once did — forcing companies to act in the public interest.
Finally, we need campaign finance reform to get big corporate money out of politics.
Large American corporations shouldn’t need government subsidies to do what’s right for America.
It’s time for our leaders in Washington to get this message, and reverse this disturbing trend.

Chapter 15
Aria& Bang Chan
.
Aria
"We got a huge order and gosh Ari how do I make 20 journals in 2 weeks without you?" My sister Eliana was on Facetime, she was catching up with our business and other updates back home. Her brow furrowed with worry, and the familiar sight of our studio's background made me nostalgic.
"Eli, you're not alone. You have Sophie and Lorraine to help you" I said chuckling, holding my phone up with on hand as I was stirring my coffee. The rich aroma of brewed coffee filled the kitchen, mingling with the freshly baked cookies I just finished making with Deliah.
"They are here I know, but still it's not the same without you Ari" She said, her voice tinged with a mixture of frustration and affection.
"Well, it sounds like you all have your work cut out for you," I said, trying to sound encouraging. "Besides weren't you the one who kept saying I'm always so punctual and perfectionist? Now you have the studio all to yourself"
I winked at her, Eliana rolled her eyes but smiled, her tension easing a bit. "Yeah, yeah, I remember. But still, it's nice to have you around to bounce ideas off of and share the workload."
I laughed. "You'll do great, Eli. You plus the girls are unstoppable."
Sophie and Lorraine are our cousins who joined to help our business a few months after we opened. Soon after I graduated from business school, Eli and I opened our store and by a blessing, it started thriving with orders and satisfied customers.
If everything goes well as smooth as it did, we'll be able to have our journals manufactured by a supplier but there was a certain satisfaction in putting our love into making our journals and other gifts.
She sighed, nodding. "You're right. It's just... I miss you sis. Things feel different now."
My gaze softened, a small pang of sadness clenching my chest as I looked at my sister, standing amidst the shelves of beautifully crafted journals and delicate gifts in our bustling shop.
"I miss you too" I admitted, the words tinged with longing.
"Hey, did your hubzy like the journal you gave him?" I paused the cup at my lips, her question caught me off guard. I looked up at the screen, a playful grin playing across her face.
"I sure hope so," I chuckled. My mind drifted back to when Chris kept admiring the journal I gifted him for Christmas. The look of genuine delight on his face was etched into my memory, a rare moment of vulnerability.
I asked Eli to make one of our special types of leather journals. It takes quite a while to make but she got to work immediately and managed to make one and post it in time.
"What do you mean hope so?" She raised a playful eyebrow, "He better love it. I spent quite a lot of time on it you know? Almost messed up his initials as BBC instead of B.C.C"
I almost choked on my coffee as she said that. Imagining the confusion Chris might have had if he received a journal monogrammed with those unexpected initials of a broadcasting company.
"He loved it," I assured her with a smile, grateful for her skill and effort in creating such a meaningful gift.
"Good. I hope you guys are doing fine sis." Her tone softened, her concern evident.
My mind drifted to our past arguments and how we struggled to get along at the beginning. But now, he was slowly letting me see himself, revealing layers beneath that cold exterior.
There's still hope for us.
"Yeah, we're getting there," I replied, my voice thoughtful and careful.
Eli and I continued to chat for a while before she hung up getting a call from a customer, we promised to catch up again during the weekend. I finished my coffee, letting the caffeine sit as I helped Deliah chop some veggies and a bit around the kitchen.
"You don't have do all this dear," Deliah said as she stirred the soup. "It's my job." Her gaze turned to me, warm and affectionate, a hint of concern lingering in her eyes.
Deliah had been a steady presence in my life ever since I moved to Chris's place. In only these few months of being here, she became more than just a housekeeper; she was like a second mother. Always ready with sage advice and unconditional support.
"I don't mind helping," I replied with a smile, glancing around the cozy kitchen. "I like it."
The scent of herbs and vegetables filled the air, mingling with the lingering aroma of her divine meals. Cooking with Deliah was a comforting ritual, one that brought a sense of normalcy.
Deliah nodded approvingly, her hands deftly chopping vegetables. "You're a good soul, Aria," she said softly. "Mr. Bang is very lucky to have you."
I felt a warmth spread through me at her words. Despite the challenges Chris and I faced, hearing Deliah's unwavering faith in me meant more than I could express. "Thank you, Deliah," I murmured sincerely.
I turned to the sound of footsteps coming from the hallway, glancing at the clock, it wasn't even noon and it was WAY too early for Chris to be back home since he left not so long ago. But his schedule keeps changing every day, one morning he'll be in the mansion having breakfast with me and the next he'll leave abruptly.
Although after the night in his car, everything wasn't how it was before. Not a fast change but it was palpable. Chris was being more careful with his behaviour towards me, his gestures more measured, his words softer around the edges.
"I'll be back," I told Delilah, setting down the knife I had been using to prepare lunch.
The thought of Chris coming home early was pleasant, but what awaited me in the living room made my eyes widen and turned my blood to ice.
There, sat a man on the luxurious white couch with his leg up resting on his knee, lighting a cigarette inside the goddamn house. He was impeccably dressed but his face bore a nasty scar slashing across his eyebrow to his forehead.
Despite the elegant attire, the scar lent him a rugged, dangerous edge. His piercing grey eyes locked onto mine, exuding an unsettling mix of confidence and menace that sent shivers down my spine.
"Who are you?" I managed to ask, my voice trembling despite my attempt to sound composed.
The man turned to face me slowly, taking a deliberate drag from his cigarette before answering. His smile was unnervingly charming, but it didn't reach his eyes, which seemed to gleam with an unsettling intensity.
How the hell did he get past security? Where is Daniel?!
"Ah, you must be Aria," he said smoothly, taking a step closer. "I've heard so much about you."
My heart thundered in my chest. His calm demeanor and casual posture in Chris's mansion felt incredibly intrusive and threatening, like a coiled snake ready to strike. I struggled to maintain my composure, every instinct urging me to flee or find some way to defend myself.
"How did you get in here?" I demanded, trying to sound assertive despite the fear coiling in my stomach. He chuckled softly, the sound sending a chill down my spine.
"I have my ways," he replied cryptically, taking another slow drag of his cigarette. "Don't worry. I'm just here to catch up with an old friend."
His words did nothing to ease my anxiety. The way he lounged on the couch, completely at ease in this unfamiliar setting, made my skin crawl. I couldn't shake the feeling that there was something darker behind his charming facade, something that posed a real threat.
"Get out." The words shot at him as my pulse raced in the speed of galloping horses. He glared back, those grey eyes froze me in my spot but I managed to take a step back, my mind racing with fear and confusion.
Who was this guy, and why was he here? I glanced nervously towards the door, wondering why Daniel hadn't intervened or why security hadn't been alerted.
"That's not a polite way to treat a guest." he retorted with a creepy smirk playing across his face. His voice was smooth, almost mocking, sending a fresh surge of adrenaline through my veins.
"You shouldn't be here. Please leave." Dread coiled in my stomach like a tightening knot. Every passing second felt like eternity.
He got up from the couch with deliberate slowness, each step echoing ominously in the silence of the room. My eyes fell from his face down to his body, they widened at the outline of something metallic and menacing tucked into the waistband of his pants— a gun.
The cold, hard shape of the weapon sent a wave of terror crashing over me. My heart pounded in my ears, blood rushed frantically as he pulled it out, holding it with a casual menace that made my stomach churn. His eyes glinted with malice, a twisted smirk curling his lips.
Fear rooted me to the spot as if my feet were chained to the floor.
His approach felt like a slow, deliberate advance, racking the slide of then gun, the sound echoing and closing the distance between us with a predatory grace.
"We'll see eachother soon...Aria..."
His voice trailed off with a chilling promise, I could smell his breath of cigarettes that made me sick. His eyes were locked onto mine. As he turned to leave, the air seemed to grow heavier with his presence lingering like a malevolent shadow. I watched, paralyzed, unable to move until he walked out of the front door.
I finally snapped our of my trance once I heard the roar of an engine drifting away, rushing to the door to watch his car disappear out of the premises but Daniel was sitting with his head back on the wall, his hand holding him upwards, breathing heavily.
Panic surged anew as I hurried to his side, checking for any signs of injury. A black-purple mark circled his eye and his forehead bore a cut, blood trickling down his temple, all over his white shirt.
Blood was everywhere. Blood...
"Dan- Daniel," I stammered, keeping my hand gently on his shoulder. "Oh my god you need stitches"
I ran back inside the kitchen, Deliah was nowhere, probably in the basement but I didn't waste time trying to find her. I grabbed a bag of frozen peas, a soft cloth from the dining table and my phone from the island and rushed outside.
My fingers were trembling as I dialed the emergency line and helped Daniel with the ice. Everything that happened in past 10 minutes felt like a tornado, ripping through a tranquil landscape.
"911, what's your emergency?"
~
Bang Chan
"Meeting dismissed," I announced, watching as my team gathered their belongings and filed out of the conference room.
The tension in the room eased, leaving only the faint hum of distant conversations from the hallway.
My father, who also participated in the meeting, lingered behind. He usually spends his days at our Paris headquarters, overseeing operations there. But ever since Christmas, he hadn't returned. His presence here was both reassuring and a bit unsettling. The lines on his face seemed deeper, his eyes more pensive.
"Christopher," my father called, his deep voice resonating through the room as he approached me. "Good job," he shook my hand and patted my back. "You're going in the right direction"
"Thank you father," I replied, feeling a rare warmth at his praise.
"Anyways, your mother and I leaving to Paris tonight. We'll return in about 2 weeks. If anything, call me"
"Sure. Have a safe flight" I assured him and watched my father grab his coat and leave the the conference room as he slid the coat on his shoulders smoothly.
I grabbed my tablet and my phone, and went to my office, Jane wasn't at her desk, I assumed she went to lunch. Unlocking the door, I strode to my desk and quickly grabbed a charger for my phone.
I got a few rings from Aria during the meeting, my heart began racing as I saw her name pop up on my phone. My phone switched off in the middle of her ringing, leaving me in a state of worry.
Aria rarely- she has NEVER called me ever since we got married but I had given her my number in case she decided to go out or for anything else.
I didn't want her to wander off again like she did once with her friend, so I made sure Andrew got to drop her wherever she wanted to go and at least inform me before she went.
I never received a text or call from her until today.
The Apple logo flashed as the phone switched on, but before I got it in my hands, someone walked through my door. I glanced up from my phone, standing there, with a smug grin on his face, was the last person I wanted to see.
"Good day, Christopher Bang" Victor Monroe greeted, his voice dripping with mockery.
Tension crackled in the air like static electricity.
What was he doing here?!
Victor's presence was a dark cloud, heavy and suffocating. He stepped into my office, his eyes cold and calculating, and shut the door behind him with a soft click that felt ominous in the silence.
"Victor," I said, my voice cold, hard and controlled. "What are you doing here? You have no business in this building."
He chuckled softly, a sound that sent a chill down my spine. "Oh, Chris, always so by-the-book. I'm just here to catch up. After all, we have a lot of... unfinished business, don't we?"
I stood up, my chair scraping against the floor as I did. "Get the fuck out. Before I call security."
Victor's smile widened, but it didn't reach his eyes. He walked closer, his every movement deliberate and predatory. "Let's not be hasty. I just wanted to remind you of how easily things can change. How quickly fortunes can turn."
His words were a veiled threat, and every muscle in my body tensed in response. "I don't have time for your shit, Victor. Leave, or I'll make sure you regret coming here."
He took another step closer, his gaze locking onto mine with a cold intensity. "You see, Chris, you took something from me. My reputation, my career. And I'm here to take something back. But not today. Today is just a friendly visit."
A heavy silence filled the room, blood rushed and I could feel the frantic beats of my heart in my ears. The air was thick with unspoken menace. The fucker deserves why he got blacklisted. Victor's smug expression only fueled my anger.
Victor Monroe.
He was once a part of Aurelius, working under my father. And one of my well known friends from my childhood. On the surface, he seemed like the perfect professional. Impeccably dressed, charming, and efficient. But behind that façade, he was a predator. Harassing and blackmailing the staff, using his position to instill fear and manipulate them. Creating a toxic environment that nearly tore apart the very fabric of our company.
When I returned to the States, it took me only a month to uncover the truth about Victor after working here. The stories, the fear in the employees' eyes, to where his harassment reached a peak with the suicide of one of our elite employees.
He had the body and a face of a Greek God, but a brain the size of a fucking peanut.
Had we not taken the measures, Aurelius would have fallen into destruction. A company lost and driven off the high society because of one man's greed and toxicity.
"I don't have to remind you why you got fired Victor," I said through gritted teeth.
His eyes narrowed, the smirk never leaving his face. "I was just... motivating them. Pushing them to be their best."
"Bullshit!" I snapped, my voice echoing in the office. "You were a fucking predator and you know it. And I wasn't going to let you ruin this company any longer."
Victor shrugged, the casual gesture infuriating.
"Call it what you want. But you didn't just fire me, Chris, you made sure I couldn't find work in this town, or anywhere else for that matter."
"You ruined the lives of our employees. And you deserve every bit of it," I shot back, my pulse racing with fury. "Now get the fuck out of my office."
Victor's smile faltered for a brief moment before he regained his composure. "You were born with a silver spoon in your mouth. What you're building now, it was supposed to be me."
Anger fueled every sense and part of me at the words that came out of him. He worked for my father while I was living my life in Europe and if I hadn't gotten him fired, it would have been Victor launching the new line.
"You think this was handed to me?" I snapped, my voice echoing off the walls. "While you were busy abusing your power, I did what I had to do to preserve the integrity of Aurelius."
Victor's eyes narrowed, a sneer forming on his lips. "Integrity? You mean the legacy of your father, the one who handed you everything on a silver platter. Don't kid yourself, Chris."
"I'd rather go through worst tortures of hell than ever see Aurelius fall into your hands." I growled, my blood boiling to its core. The tension in the room was palpable, a dangerous electricity crackling between us.
The weight of our shared past pressed down on me, memories of childhood camaraderie tainted by betrayal and bitterness. The man who once stood beside me now embodied a threat I couldn't afford to underestimate.
Victor's eyes flicked to the door, then back to me. The mocking amusement was gone, replaced by a cold, calculating gaze. "You think you're unbeatable, don't you? One day, you're going to pay for what you did."
I stepped closer, our faces inches apart, my fists clenched at my sides. "Get. Out. Now."
For a moment, we stood there, locked in a silent battle of wills. My phone tinged with a thousand notifications, breaking the tense silence.
Victor's eyes flicked towards the desk briefly, a smirk returning to his lips. "Looks like you're in demand," he sneered, taking a step back.
"Enjoy your temporary victory."
Then, with a final, disdainful look, Victor turned on his heel and walked out of my office. But before he left, he turned back to me,
"Your wife...she's quite lovely."
Blood roared in my ears. A chill ran down my spine, icy fear mingling with the hot rage burning in my chest as he scoffed and left my office.
As the door closed behind him, I exhaled sharply, slicing my fingers through the strands of my hair trying to calm the storm inside me. The bastard had the nerve to come here, to threaten me in my own office.
But I wouldn't let him win. Not now, not ever.
An image of Aria flashed in front of my eyes. I grabbed my phone; ten calls, and a dozen messages lighting up the screen. Each missed call from Aria sent another surge of anxiety through me.
Your wife...she's quite lovely.
He had gone to the mansion—
I grabbed my jacket with one hand from my chair and ran out of my office, my heart pounded in my chest like a war drum as I sprinted through the corridors of the Aurelius headquarters.

Shirley Temple may have liked animal crackers in her soup, but if she were Jewish, I’d bet shekels to sufganiyot that she would have preferred shkedei marak.
Also calledmandlach or mandlen in Yiddish, shkedei marak (which means ‘soup almonds’ in Hebrew) is the broad term for croutons of diverse forms that are used as an accompaniment or garnish for soups and stews. However, because of their exterior resemblance to nuts, they are affectionately and most popularly known as “soup nuts.”
Like “grape nuts,” “soup nuts” do not contain legumes. Soup nuts are thought to have originated in Ashkenazi Jewish cuisine as a workaround of sorts to enjoy some (unleavened) starch with your soup during Passover. Their savory, crunchy mouthfeel eventually led them to be a staple accoutrement year-round, and prominent Jewish food manufacturers began adding them permanently to their product lines. Although for decades the Osem brand had the corner on the market with regards to mass-produced soup nuts, other companies, such as Vita and Knorr now offer competing varieties. Today, you can even get your soup nuts fix on Amazon, with the added bonus of reading pithy reviews, such as: “kind of like Jewish oyster crackers, but kosher.”
While soup nuts traditionally are formed to look like petite nuts, they have appeared as rings, stars and fish (take that, goy Goldfish!).
If you love shkedei marak, but don’t favor store-bought versions, DIY soup nuts require minimal culinary prowess. The most basic recipes call for eggs, matzah meal (or wheat flour) and vegetable shortening or oil. Once you have assembled the dough, simply roll it by hand into small balls and bake on a parchment-lined sheet on high heat until the surface of the spheres is a cozy chocolate brown. You can also deep-fry your dough balls to produce a terrific circumferential crisp that stays crunchy even when fully immersed in broth. Season with salt and pepper, though for additional dimensions of botanical flavor, I suggest dried garlic or rosemary.
Soup nuts are considered a comfort food in the collective Jewish culinary consciousness, and are often nostalgically referenced in popular media. For example, in Jermon Charyn’s crime novel, “Elsinore,” former hitman Sidney Holden bonds with Brian Calendar over his enjoyment of “soup with special little nuts.”
Soup nuts (as the name implies) are intended to be scattered over soup, and due to their versatile pareve status, can be liberally sprinkled over dairy, as well as meat-based broths. Manischewitz, however, encourages its customers to branch out with regards to deploying soup nuts, and sprinkle over salads and even desserts (their packaging includes a recipe for mandlen strawberry trifle). And while soup nuts are ostensibly a side-note to soup, their toothsome flavor and addictive texture has led them to evolve to the status of stand-alone snack. In other words, it is totes kosher to chow down on shkedei marak in and of themselves — no spoon required.

Hello, I was the one who gave the ask about Clex Arranged Marriage AU. I only have ideas and concepts for it.
Krypton is not doomed due to massive efforts from the House Of El & Zod & other houses, but it left the planet in ruins. Few years later, they were able to recover to the point of deciding to do trade with other planets.
Earth is far more advanced and one of the leading manufacturing companies is owned by Lionel Luthor. He was the 1st to strike a deal with them. In both planets, there partnership is seen as tight-knit and quite positive. If you exclude the dubious behind-curtain plans of some members of the house of El and Zod.
The house of El & Zod are distinct due to their massive contribution and pre-planning of what could’ve been the death of their planet, and afterwards, trying to rebuild Krypton with their attempts of other planet trade and new scientific discoveries. Krypton changed a lot from its ecosystem to their politics.
A young boy from the house of El, Kal-el, is told by her older cousin, Kara Zor-el, that Krypton was more spectacular before he was born. He lived his early life with people trying their best to help their planet, parents and relatives discussing with other aliens, and a community united with cause of helping each other and their planet. Kal-el is always thinking about his role in helping his parents, though he wasn’t much of a scientist as them. He trying to figure out his own way to help his planet. But this resolves died down a bit, when his parents were given the deal to further their partnership with an arrange marriage with one of their biggest benefactors’ child.
Kal has a lot of respect and admiration for their parents, to play his part for the future of Krypton is what he has to do, then let it be his faith. This is a sentiment Lex doesn’t share with his only living parent.
Lionel is a brilliant businessman, to the point his business ventures affect how he raises his children, Lex and Lena. He makes them the leading scientists of his research facilities. He made them compete one another, no room for familial bonds. But that statement isn’t as true as it is, because Lex volunteered when Lionel proposed his idea of arranging a marriage with the house of. Lex is younger but he does belittle humanity for not matching as much other Alien civilization they’ve dealt with. He despises his father, but he’saware enough his willing take risks just like him especially something important. He finds Lena as his true equal, matching in genius since they were, so he wasn’t willing to have her greatness be squandered due to his father’s meddling.
Anyway, he thought he could quickly end this arrangement, he has 6 arranged ex-fiancé before this one. But Kal is doing his best for them to connect and develop a relationship.
That's good soup, anon. Real damn good soup.

There's this post going around about a Belgian airline that keeps flying empty planes to hog landing slots + someone leaving a Twitter comment saying: "Thank God I wash the tomato soup can before I put it away for recycling," or something along those lines.
Complaining is fine! I complain all the time about waste and still separate materials for recycling. But some people in the notes are taking it the wrong way. "Your choices don't matter. Kill a billionaire!" &c. Translation: If a major company pollutes, then it means I'm not responsible and can continue consuming without any regard to the environment.
Which is completely missing the point! Of course, there are egregious examples like the one mentioned in the post, but who do you think companies are making products for? Obviously someone is buying this shit, a lot of people in fact, why leave comments that would discourage someone from considering their habits? And recycling is imperfect, but when a product is made of repurposed materials, if more people choose this alternative it encourages the manufacturer to buy fewer new materials.
I don't like how the culture has changed to the point that you shouldn't "shame" anyone for their choices, which... I understand you shouldn't insult or be needlessly rude to anyone. But it has devolved into this attitude that, "You can buy anything so long as you like it! You can consume anything as long as you want to! We should respect everyone's consumption choices because we don't know why they want to get this thing, not that we're asking either way!"
Most of these impulse purchases will end up in the trash or hoarded in a cluttered house but we're not supposed to point it out, right? I've also made the mistake of buying things because they were new or cheap, but far from justifying it I want to learn how to be in control, even though the temptation is great, especially when we participate in hobbies where apparently everyone is buying the cool new thing, be it toys, books, games, or in my case, pens. I understand that it's hard, but we can't continue giving our money out for useless or harmful things and then act like we're babies who don't understand anything and are powerless to make any decision for ourselves.

Come Fly the Dead Skies
Boeing and "trust and quality"?
Being used in the same stratosphere?
"Boeing CEO steps down".
And?????????? Thats it???
How many times do the plebian slaves need to see the movie to understand these scripts are written years in advance?
Thats why this has happened again and again.
Its the same script.
CEO steps down.
That means the "company is really sorry".
Does it though??????????
Public relations campaign ensues to "earn back the public's trust".
Fake apology, fake contriteness, fake tough new regulations from fill in the Alphabet Soup regulator - FDA, FAA, take your pick.
The public gets bored & moves on in a week, one month absolute max.
The dead Boeing whistleblowers and suicide'd Ozempians are forgotten.
The public, with their collective constant amnesia & new shiny toy "theres a new dance on the for you page on TikTok" syndrome continues apace.
The sloppy fake suicides that are actually homicides, the death by poisoning passed off as"MRSA & the flu" in an otherwise previously perfectly healthy 40 year old unalive'd Boeing whistleblower, the Ozempic suicides for a "miracle weight loss drug" that hasnt even been extensively studied in people without diabetes that has not been on the market yet for five years so no long-term effects are known but even the side effects we know now include thyroid issues, cancer and fucking suicide are just brushed aside, papered over and forgotten about for The Next Thing.
Trump was found guilty.
I mean, Hunter Biden.
Biden/Trump debate is July 11th.
Putin met up with Kim Jong-Un.
Kai Cenat is on Ozempic.
I mean, Kelly Osborne.
I mean, Oprah.
I mean, Kelly Clarkson.
Cornel is the dark horse candidate to look out for.
I mean, Jill Stein.
I mean, Claudia Karina.
Theres a new Star Wars show.
I mean, movie.
What are you doing for 4th of July?
Where are you going for your summer vacation?
Where are you flying to?
Where are you going on your cruise?
Where are you staying?
Which beach are you going to?
Have you lost those ten pounds to wear your bikini?
OTAs have started for the NFL.
Trevor Lawrence got $275 million.
Its so hot lately.
Heat waves. Humidity.
Like sticking your head in an oven.
Engines. 737s. Fuselage doors. Weapons manufacturers. Aerospace defense. Northrop Grumman. Dead Palestinian children. War is Peace. Raytheon. Lockheed Martin. Crashed planes. Planes that caught on fire. Faulty engines. FAA violations.
Shot in the head in a rental car in a hotel parking lot the day of open court testimony against Boeing with drivers license and car keys in hotel room but it was definitely a suicide.
Not foul play. Not homicide. Not retaliation. Not punishing whistleblowers. Not intimidation through violence & fear. Not protecting defense contracts with the US government worth billions.
40 year old otherwise healthy man dies of "MRSA infection" & "the flu" with symptoms that are exactly the same symptoms that an individual would experience if they were poisoned to death.
Similarly to the suicide'd whistleblower in the hotel parking lot who was set to testify against Boeing in open court, this 40 year old had recently filed an FAA complaint against Boeing.
The second dead Boeing whistleblower in just two months.
Boeing declined to comment either death.
Surprise surprise.
Former co-workers & current Boeing employees would only speak anonymously and off the record but they all expressed serious doubt that either death was anything but retaliatory murder for speaking out against Boeing cutting corners with safety inspections and regulations to save money.
They also spoke -- anonymously & off the record ofcourse -- about a culture of fear, secrecy & intimidation that permeates all levels of Boeing, private conversations between employees on company ground being recorded by Boeing and the inability to speak freely at work because "someones always watching and listening".
Dead hotel parking lot whistleblowers death was deemed a "suicide".
Naturally.
Dead previously healthy 40 year old whistleblowers quite random & mysterious "MRSA & flu" death which suspiciously mirrored the exact same symptoms seen in a death by poisioning was deemed "natural".
Naturally.
Then everyone returned to their regularly scheduled programming.
Next!

👉Read about the *Lemon Peel* & it pains me to hear about these facts & proves that the drug companies would rather profit on our *Pains & Suffering* than educate us on *Alternative Medicines & Natural Remedies.* Feel sorry for those *Dead & Gone* that couldn't afford or get hold of the *Chemo* or whatever medicines they prescribe and didn't know about these facts, thank goodness for *Social Media*

AMAZING FROZEN LEMONS
Place the washed lemon in the freezer.
Once frozen, get your grater, & shred the whole lemon (no need to peel it) and sprinkle it on your foods!
On vegetables, salad, ice cream, soup, cereals, noodles, spaghetti sauce,
rice, sushi, fish dishes, ... the list is endless.
All the foods will get an unexpected wonderful taste!
Most likely, you only think of lemon juice as vitamin C ??
Not anymore!
What's the major advantage of using the whole lemon other than preventing waste & adding new taste to your dishes?
Lemon peels contain as much as 5 to 10 times more vitamins than the lemon juice itself & that's what you've been wasting!
Lemon peels are health rejuvenators in eradicating toxic
elements in the body.
The surprising benefits of lemon is the miraculous ability to kill cancer cells! It is 10,000 times stronger
than chemotherapy!!
Why do we not know about that?
Because there are laboratories interested in making a synthetic version that will bring them huge profits.
You can now help a friend in need by letting him/her know that lemon juice is beneficial in preventing the disease.
Its taste is pleasant and it does not produce the horrific
effects of chemotherapy.
How many people will die while this closely guarded secret is kept, so as not to jeopardize the multimillionaires large corporations?
This plant is a proven remedy against cancers of all types.
It is considered also as an anti microbial spectrum against bacterial infections and fungi, effective against internal parasites and worms,
it regulates blood pressure
& an antidepressant, combats stress & nervous disorders.
The source of this information is fascinating: it comes from one of the largest drug
manufacturers in the world, says that after more than 20 laboratory tests since 1970,the extracts revealed that It destroys the malignant cells in 12 cancers, including colon, breast, prostate, lung & pancreas...
The compounds of this tree showed 10,000 times better effect than the product Adriamycin, a drug normally used chemotherapeutic in the world, slowing the growth of cancer cells.
And what is even more astonishing: this type of therapy with lemon extract only destroys malignant cancer cells and it does not affect healthy cells. .
So, give those lemons a good wash, freeze them and grate them. Your whole body will love you for it!!
🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋🍋
Request: Pls forward to lots of friends and to all your dear ones at home and abroad🌿

Shake her hand.
JOYCE MESSIER - "I'm glad to see you here." Her grip is tight and cold. She seems relieved.
"I was dispatched to handle a strike, not a lynching. Anything I can do to assist the RCM in this matter, I will, gladly."
KIM KITSURAGI - "That is good to hear, madam." He opens his notebook. "My colleague will take the lead on this interview. I should let you know that he's recovering from an *unusual* medical episode -- *very* unusual -- but I can assure you of his ultimate competency."
JOYCE MESSIER - "How interesting." She turns to you, unfazed. "I wish you a swift recovery. In the meanwhile, you have my *full* cooperation. And the full cooperation of the Wild Pines Group."
SUGGESTION [Medium: Success] - It's hard to get a read on her precise disposition, but she *appears* helpful.
"You're on a boat."
"Tell me about Wild Pines. What do you do?"
"What can you tell me about this strike?"
"What can you tell me about this lynching?"
"Do you know something about these tattoos?" (Show her the photo.)
"You seem rich. Can I have some money?"
"Thank you. That's all for now." [Leave.]
JOYCE MESSIER - "Why, yes I am..." She looks at the deck under her feet. Green and white sails flutter overhead.
"Not a lot of people on boats, are there?"
"Does she have a name?"
"Do you have a license for this boat?"
"I think I have a handle on the boat thing." (Conclude.)
JOYCE MESSIER - "Of course there are." She looks around. "We are on an archipelago. How else are you supposed to get around?"
EMPATHY [Challenging: Success] - There is a pinch of *defensiveness* in her voice, but it is playful.
"Wait, we're on an *archipelago*?" (Look around.)
"What do you mean -- archipelago?"
JOYCE MESSIER - "Yes, we are." She raises her brow. "We are on Le Caillou."
"Uhm, Caillou? I thought we were in Revachol."
"Still, I haven't seen anyone else sail a boat around here."
"Understood. About this boat of yours... " (Back off.)
JOYCE MESSIER - "We are. And the city of Revachol is on the island of Le Caillou."
2. "Still, I haven't seen anyone else sail a boat around here."
JOYCE MESSIER - "I haven't seen anyone else drive a souped-up Coupris Kineema motor carriage either."
KIM KITSURAGI - "Actually," the lieutenant becomes defensive, "that motor carriage has been specially issued to serve as a patrol and *pursuit* vehicle."
"It's for crossing long distances in the Greater Revachol Industrial Harbour. It's not a toy."
JOYCE MESSIER - "Neither is this." The woman pats the cabin hardtop. "A toy, I mean. It's a machine for crossing long distances in the bay of Revachol. Between the city and the islands."
AUTHORITY [Medium: Success] - She's having a good time arguing against the law. Too good, perhaps?
2. "Does she have a name?"
JOYCE MESSIER - "The boat? No. *It* is called Cor-de-Leite '19 -- because that's the type of sloop it is."
INLAND EMPIRE [Medium: Success] - The word *it* feels strange. Such a beautiful boat deserves a proper name...
"Cool, but your boat really needs a name."
"Okay, but what *kind* of boat is it?"
"How do you like it?" (Conclude.)
JOYCE MESSIER - "It's a pleasure craft. A nineteen-pacer. It also happens to be rated for Category 1 racing. Though these days I mainly use it for business..."
"Cool, but your boat really needs a name."
JOYCE MESSIER - "Okay. How about Cor-de-Leite '19. Why?" She taps on the side of the boat, it makes a hollow sound....
"Because it was manufactured in Revachol East by a company called Cor-de-Leite, and it's hull is '19 paces long."

Deutschribing Germany: regions
Baden-Württemberg (Baden-Württemberg)
Baden-Württemberg is divided into thirty-five districts (Landkreise) and nine independent cities (Stadtkreise), both grouped into the four administrative districts (Regierungsbezirke) of Freiburg, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, and Tübingen. The capital city is Stuttgart.
Climate
The predominant climate type is warm-summer humid continental, but the western part (Baden) has a subtropical highland climate. As a result, in most parts of Baden, the climate is warm almost all year round and summers are mostly dry, while winters are wet and foggy.
The rest of the state has more temperate temperatures, especially in summer. Areas of high elevation get snow frequently, and summers are rainier than in Baden.

Economy
Although Baden-Württemberg has relatively few natural resources compared to other German states, it is among the most prosperous and wealthiest regions in Europe.
The state is known for its strong industries, including car manufacturing, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering. It hosts the headquarters of some of the largest German companies, such as Borsch, Mercedes-Benz Group, Porsche, and Schwarz Group (owner of Kaufland and Lidl).
Baden-Württemberg is also a popular holiday destination, including a variety of sights like the residential court towns of Ludwigsburg and Karlsruhe, the spas of Baden-Baden, the medieval architecture of Ulm, the Black Forest, and the traditional university towns of Heidelberg and Tübingen.

Gastronomy
There are two distinct regional cuisines: those of Baden and Swabia. The cuisine of Baden is considered one of the best regional cuisines in Germany and is based on fruit, herbs, vegetables, game, poultry, fish, smoked products, wine, and beer. It has many influences from Alsace and Switzerland. Specialties include Flammkuchen (pizza with thin crust) and Schäufele (pig's shoulder meat).
Swabian cuisine has a reputation for being rustic but rich and hearty. It is characterized by fresh egg pasta, soups, sausages, broths, and sauces. The most famous specialties are Maultaschen (meat and spinach-filled dumplings, either fried or served in broth) and pretzels.

A recent report has uncovered the shocking process used to make croutons, a popular topping for salads and soups.
According to the report, croutons are made from stale bread that is soaked in a mixture of oil, salt, and garlic powder. The bread is then cut into small cubes and baked in a hot oven.
However, the report revealed that the bread used for croutons is often treated in a manner that is considered to be extremely rude. The bread is typically soaked for up to two days in a mixture of oil, salt and garlic powder, which is believed to be a degrading process.
The report also found that the bread used in croutons often contains preservatives, artificial coloring, and additives that can be harmful to human health.
Consumer advocates have called on food manufacturers to be more transparent about the ingredients used in their products, including croutons. They are also urging food companies to use more natural ingredients in their products and to find alternative methods of making croutons that don't involve the degrading treatment of bread.
