So basically: Alec is super magically powerful and was able to keep a tendril of the unacknowlesged soul bond alive as a kid that was making him sick and corrupting the newly formed soul bond?
and now Magnus healed it and the bond is complete and Malec are currently cuddling in bonded bliss?
Wowwwwwwwwwwww 🙈🥹 I get more invested in AWG every single chapter. So excited to see Malbec exploring all the new layers of both of their magic + soul bond.
I wouldn’t say super magically powerful, but he is powerful yes! And it was maintaining that tendril that was a king him so ill, so yes for that part as well!
I apologize for the incoming ramble, it’s going to be a lot.
Alec’s magic is pretty unique in the sense that it reacts both in the way a normal shadowhunter’s magic works as well as the way a warlock’s would that is to say:
Shadowhunter magic - no intent, only runes. The magic reacts to the runes so even if you were to think about using a rune that would make you weaker (for whatever reason) if you use a strength rune, you will get stronger.
Warlock magic - mostly intent when untrained, when trained it’s intent + spell to focus. Intent will however always take the upper hand so if a warlock were to use a spell that should summon fire, but decides they really want it to create a jet stream of water instead, they would be summoning water.
Alec is using his magic the way a shadowhunter would (largely because he didn’t know he had magic the way warlocks do) except the intent is leaking through which is how the familias rune he drew on Bubbles by example ended up being a permanent bond that lets him track Bubbles (and more dangerously would let someone track him though Bubbles, which Magnus and Ragnor are going to have a conniption about).
In a similar vein, the philia rune which is just meant to be a decorative rune that shows familial love, was affected by his desire to draw this rune to show Max he loves him and that he’s safe/cared for when he’s scared. As a result, it now reacts to Max (or currently Madzie’s emotions), which in return makes it so other runes can activate if the magic in the rune feels it necessary to do so. Examples: the enlighten rune activating for Max when he’s scared of the dark, the familias rune activating and forcing Alec run over, the philia rune activating and spreading love and warmth to soothe etc.
Another thing with Alec’s magic is that it has never been restrained.
I already mentioned this, I think, but warlocks are used to containing their magic (even when they flare it in greeting it’s still not unleashing their full strength) because it’s considered impolite. The other reason is that it could be dangerous for untrained magic - a child could have a nightmare about monsters and, depending on how powerful they are, accidentally bring those monsters to life through their magic. (This is an extreme example, but that’s the main logic.)
Alec’s magic has however been given free reign to do what it wants because:
There were no warlocks around to notice;
Even if there were his magic mostly feels like that of a regular Nephilim at first glance;
His magic is perpetually exhausted because of the bond he had been unconsciously maintaining, so that would have made it even harder for a warlock to catch;
Alec didn’t realize he was doing anything in the first place so he wouldn’t have thought of putting a stop to it and trying to better control his magic.
All to say that Alec has the magical power of an adult (a young one, but an adult nonetheless) warlock with the finesse of that of a newborn. And just like how having a baby with the strength of a bodybuilder would be slightly disastrous, so is this. Ergo, the first time Alec tries to summon fire when Ragnor and Magnus are training him, he nearly destroys a full wing in the Spiral Labyrinth and burns off Ragnor’s eyebrows.😂
Sorry again for the long ramble, I have so much worldbuilding and nowhere to put it so you became the ramble victim. 😁
But yes, the idea is to wrap up the first part of this series in the next two chapters (with some more Malec being cute) and to finish with Alec’s official appointing ceremony before we start with the sequel that will focus on Alec’s magic, as well as some other plot lines that have already been set in place.😊
#Foodsies rambles#A lot#sorry for the wall of text#I just want to ramble so much about this verse because I love it#AWG#alec lightwood#malec#magnus bane#Sorry Ragnor#Please don’t murder me for torching off your eyebrows#At least you can magic them back

making a complete list of my thoughts of the show vs books since I finished it and will probably leave some stuff out since I’m super forgetful, sorry 💀
1. once again love that they upped the ages. glad we didn’t have centuries year old Magnus chasing teenager Alec or all the other inappropriate relationships in the books
2. Malec is fucking perfect on the show and it really showed that if any actually cares about them, they can make the characters much better and give the characters a better shot than the author ever did. I seriously love all the details Matt, Harry, and whoever wrote their episodes did. only one I cannot stand is when Alec doesn’t realize right away that Magnus and valentine switched bodies. but alec handled the immortality thing wayyyyyy better than book Alec ever could. book Alec (and pretty much TMI content and etc) barely exists let’s be real
3. Izzy and Simon are way too rushed in the series but at least they have more do a friendship and there’s no cheating storyline. but I kinda like Maia and Simon together. I feel that Maia understood Simon.
adding: I don’t mind Simon and clary in the show dating and the way they end things is not as harsh as it is in the books. maybe clary (I’m being kind lmao) actually cares about Simon in the show but still kinda uses him at times
4. might be the only thing I’ll say about the books that’s nice but it would’ve been cute to see the vacation storyline (eldest curses) in the show. would’ve been cute to see a Malec holiday and moving towards them having children 🥹
5. Maia doesn’t get enough credit. she’s one of the few sensible people on the show and gets more attention than book Maia ever did
6. speaking of Maia, I’m glad they didn’t go too extreme with the Jordan plot. in the books, I think she was made to feel to get over how Jordan treated her. but man, why does the actor have to be attractive 😭
7. I really like Maryse and Luke together. they fit each other quite well. Maryse has some of the best development in the show and I loved seeing her grow
8. glad Jocelyn was killed off. she was more insufferable in the books so glad the show decided they didn’t need that energy
9. Jace and clary are both clearly insufferable but it’s worse in the books. I feel like in the show they’re still pretty bad but it’s a little tamed
10. Alec deserved better than jace. dude had the audacity to act as though Alec is a fling, expected Alec at his beck and call to do whatever he wanted while not understanding or caring about Alec’s feelings and his needs, practically invites himself at Magnus’s place while being the worst roommate, and then taking for granted all the people who sacrificed (MAGNUS AND HIS MAGIC LITERALLY THIS LOVELY MAN LOSES HIS MAGIC AND HIS HOME AND HIS MIND) once again to help his worthless ass
11. wish they wouldn’t have killed ragnor off. we got to see a lot of vampires and wolves but not a lot of warlocks. would’ve been great to see more of Magnus’s friends. you could seriously make a whole show based off on Magnus and his life
12. kinda wish they kept camille around. I know she was drama for malec in the beginning but she’s still a very fascinating character
13. I’m 100% thankful for the show not following the books and creating their own world
14. I would’ve loved to see more of the alternate universe episodes. one of the best episodes
15. ALL THE MALEC PARALLELS. these two beautiful and desperately, devoted, in love with one another men are seriously the best part of the show 😭 the fact that there are no cheating stories (when Alec is all drunk, underhill is flirting and all Alec can talk about is Magnus. Magnus defies bisexual stereotypes when dot tries to kiss him.), no taking away immortality or throwing fits or bierasure, or any toxic storylines is one of my fav things about Malec. they’re just two beings who are so in love with one another, who communicate, and are just completely devoted to each other. and it’s one of the reasons why everyone was so hooked on Malec. they’re healthy but you’re also excitedly rooting for them 🫶🏼
16. Clary deserved to lose her ability with runes. the angels message was to not use her rune ability for whatever she pleased but she took advantage of it. but I will say, some helped but I feel that the rest she just used because she didn’t care
17. season three breakup wrecked me and I’ll not emotionally recover from that. it breaks my heart seeing Alec break his own heart and Magnus’s all so Magnus can have his magic and be whole again. I’m so glad they got married in the end 💓
18. I’m glad the twinning rune went to clary instead of jace because how many times does this worthless fucker need saved????? SERIOUSLY HOW MANY
19. I think Magnus recognizing what Alec needs at the beginning when they meet is beautiful. I don’t think it’s creepy (as some book fans state.) and it shows that Magnus understands that Alec is not ready to be out. I’m glad Magnus doesn’t get shitty with Alec on not being out like he does in the books
20. also book vs show thing. I actually like the whole marrying Lydia plot. I get the whole grand gesture of kissing in wherever they were- sanctuary???? (y’all cannot pay me enough to read TMI again, I will not go through that torture again) but I really hate that it’s not even in Alec or Magnus’s pov. CC makes a point of giving characters she chooses to have unnecessary pov
21. I probably forgot something but I mainly skipped all the clace content that didn’t involve Alec or Magnus but otherwise, messy show but so amazing for the Malec content. Izzy, Maia, Raphael, and Simon are a bonus as well. I’m just saying that the show could’ve been a whole lot worse lmao
#anti cassandra clare#anti cc#alec lightwood#anti jace herondale#magnus bane#anti clace#malec#shadowhunters tv#just my stupid opinions#I’m just saying that they could’ve followed the book precisely#imagine not having tv Malec#because no thanks#I’d rather torch myself on fire than have to endure TMI

I'm crying. Like bawling my eyes out crying. Screaming-crying-throwing up crying.
This contains spoilers for CoHF, the red scrolls of magic and the lost book of the white
I had really forgotten that Raphael has died ok? I don't know why, just Raphael Santiago was still alive in my head.
And I haven't read the lost book of the white yet, but I've read the extract there is at the end of the red scrolls of magic. So I've just assumed that in the end of the book they save ragnor.
I don't really want to know if they manage to save him, I want to find on my own so pls don't do spoilers.
But if they don't manage to save him, just imagine that they succeeded. And if they do manage, then you don't have to imagine anything.
But. Listen. Me. Out.
Ragnor, after he comes back to himself from being demonized, finds all his loved ones there. Magnus and Catarina are there, Tessa and Malcolm amd even Jocelyn has shown up (alec is there too bc he wants to be there for magnus, and Clary wants to save ragnor because he's the reason Jocelyn is alive, so jace ofc is with them bc where these two go, jace goes).
ANYWAY.
And it's just one person missing. Raphael. And ragnor is a little hurt because he was supposed to be dead for a couple of years and then he was possessed by a demon, and the least Raphael could do was show up. But he also knows how raph is so he doesn't take it personally. He just says "So what? The dickhead Raphael was too busy as always to attend my welcome back party?" And it's a joke. He's joking. But as he looks around at his friends' devastated faces, and Magnus almost being in tears, he realises.
And oh.
Isn't that the most hideous realisation on earth? Because Raphael is dead. He was gone too long and now his Raphael has died. He looks at his best friend for centuries, and pleads him with his eyes to say it isn't true. That his Raphael is alive. He has tears in his eyes as he shakes his head repeatedly ever so slightly no. But Magnus only clenches his eyes shut, a few tears slipping down his cheeks as he whispers "I'm so sorry".
And then Ragnor breaks down. For the first time in all the centuries he's been alive for, he sobs hard as his two best friends' arms circle him in a secure hug.
And then it all clicks for Alec. Because right then is when he remembers a young boy with dark hair, a phone on his hand, countless unread and unresponded messages, and lastly, a saved contact as "RF".
Ok I know Ragnor isn't emotional and that's out of character but he's been imprisoned and possessed for years and he just found out his lover is dead so i think it is a suitable reaction. What do you guys think?
Also, all this because I had forgotten about Raphael's death and I was thinking their reunion :')

Magic and Ty in TWP
I'm excited for so many things in TWP but what I'm most excited to see is Ty Blackthorn grow as a character. Specifically, Ty and his magic. I think it's safe to assume that TWP is going to be heavy on the magic side of things since we have everything going on with Faerie, the after-affects of necromancy, and the TWP gang's obvious affinity for Shadow Markets.
Let's talk about Ty and magic for a second:
In QOAD Kit said that Ty drew a better spell circle (pentagram? sorry I can't remember the exact word used) than his dad, whose an actual magician.
Ragnor was absolutely taken aback when he found out Ty (with the help of Kit, of course) had completed everything on his list. Like, those set of tasks was specifically designed by a powerful warlock not to be completable. And yet, Ty did.
Now, I don't know anything about magic, but I would say necromancy is definitely not something a teenager without much experience doing magic could just pick up. Yet again, Ty did.
Ty did all of that in the span of one book! Imagine how much more powerful he's going to be after a few years at the Scholomance, a place with access to so much specialized knowledge and the Spiral Labyrinth's archives (if I'm not mistaken, which I definitely could be).
Another thing to note: remember at the end of the short story The Land I Lost where Alec and Magnus adopt Rafe. Magnus talks about how they could train Rafe to be a magician and teach Max some shadowhunter moves. With Alec as the new consul I think this really signals a coming acceptance of shadowhunters using magic (not necromancy of course, but regular magic). I feel like this could really tie into Ty's story in TWP.
My whole point is that Ty is definitely a powerful shadowhunter and I really hope he's given the opportunity to shine at his fullest potential. I'm so excited to see who he becomes throughout TWP!! I would love to hear other peoples' thoughts on this :)

magnus portalling over to meet alec cause he knows there no way he can reverse the spell in time he just wanna spend the last minutes with alec
Part I
Part II
“Cat, there has to be a way to reverse this spell,” Magnus pleads.
“Magnus, we’ve gone over this the entire night. There isn’t another way,” Cat says, voice laced with remorse. “I’m sorry, Magnus.”
Magnus blasts red, angry magic across the room, leading to every item in the room falling across.
He doesn’t stop, he keeps on pointing at items one by one and breaking them apart with his magic. It’s not something he ever does, but right now, Magnus needs to release the anger.
Magnus wants to feel anger, because if he stops feeling the burning hot rage, he’s going to start feeling what lies beneath, the endless, everlasting anguish that exists at the idea that he might lose Alec forever.
“Cat, please,” he pleads. “I can’t lose Alec.”
“Magnus,” Cat puts a comforting hand on his shoulder but Magnus shakes it off, not knowing what to do with comfort.
He needs something else.
He needs Alec.
“We need more help,” Cat announces before she portals out of there.
Five minutes later, Catarina is back with Tessa, Ragnor and Lorenzo.
Magnus doesn’t even pass a comment at Lorenzo and the other man doesn’t gloat either about Magnus needing his help.
No one says a single word, everyone just get to work immediately.
Two hours later, Ragnor closes the book in his hand and sighs.
“The curse can’t be reversed. But it can be delayed.”
Magnus frowns, “What does that mean?”
“It means that we can give you one more day.”
“To do what? Find something else?” Magnus asks, desperate for more time, anything that delays this.
There’s a sorrowful expression on Ragnor’s face as he replies.
“You know the rules Magnus. Some curses cannot be reversed. When you wished that Alec and you two never got married, it released dark magic into the world. It’s a warlock’s curse, it cannot be reversed. And a curse unleashed by Magnus Bane can only be reversed by one person.”
“Who?” Magnus swallows before he finds the answer himself.
He lets out an ugly laugh because of course there’s only one person who can reverse this. It figures that Magnus deserves a fate like this.
“Asmodeus,” he breathes.
Ragnor nods in agreement.
“But I threw him in the limbo. He’s gone. The only person who can reverse the curse,” He laughs.
“Ragnor, please. Do something,” Magnus pleads as he falls to his friend’s feet. “There is no world where I exist without Alexander.”
Every single fibre of his being calls for Alec. There’s a desperate need, far worse than anyone he’s felt in his life.
He thinks of Alec. His Alexander. His husband.
The person he loves most in the world.
Magnus knows for a fact that if he loses Alec like this, he will never recover. There will be no going back for him, he will lose the very essence of him because that’s where Alec lives now.
“I won’t lose you, Magnus,” Alec had said when Magnus was about to lose himself to get his powers back. He did not get Alec’s desperation then, but he gets it now.
“Please,” he whispers, brokenly, before he breaks into tears.
Ragnor bends down and pulls him against his chest. “You can have one more day.”
Magnus let’s out an anguished sob, not worried who sees him in this state, not a single care in the world.
“We can delay the inevitable by one day. The four of us can manage that.”
“It’s not enough. It’s not enough time with Alexander,” he sobs.
“I know,” it’s all Ragnor replies.
“He won’t even talk to me. Not after what he saw in that memory,” Magnus says, his voice laced with pain.
“He might not remember. But he does feel it Magnus. Find a way to talk to him. You only have limited time left.”
“What happens after?” Magnus inquires, even though he knows.
“You forget him too. And the world will change and your paths will never cross again,” Cat explains. “We don’t know how, but you won’t find each other this time.”
He wishes there was a word to describe something like this. ‘Pain’ sounds too small, too little to how and what he actually feels.
Even anguish and heartbreak doesn’t cut it because he won’t be heartbroken after all of this, he will be nothing.
He will not exist.
He cleans his face and stands up because if this is it, he’s going to find Alec. He’s going to find his husband and tell him everything, he will apologise for ruining their lives, breaking both of their hearts even if Alec doesn’t remember.
He will beg Alec to forgive him for changing their lives. Alec, his brave Alec who fought against his race, walked out of his wedding for himself. And what did he do in return? In a fit of anger? Pushed both of them to a life of loneliness.
His heart aches for his Alec, who is married to a woman—the one thing Alec’s been scared of more than anything in his life since he was a kid.
Magnus Bane ruined Alec Lightwood and this will be his eulogy.
“Okay,” he exhales and opens a portal. He enters the portal and he’s at the institute.
The institute is eerily quiet right now, maybe everyone can feel the storm that’s about to come. Or maybe it’s just him. Maybe, it doesn’t matter that’s he wrecked. The world goes on.
There’s only one place he will find Alec and he’s found right ten seconds later when he finds the shadowhunter on the terrace.
“Alexander.”
Alec stops midway from shooting the arrow and turns, surprise written over his face as their eyes meet. “What are you doing here?”
“I have to talk to you.”
“I don’t have anything to say to you. Please leave.”
Magnus inhales deeply, “You’re my husband.”
Alec’s face turns in confusion. “What?”
“You’re not Alec Lightwood, Co-head of the institute. You’re Alexander Gideon Lightwood-Bane, Inquisitor of the Clave. My husband.”
More confusion and a small amount of anger appears on Alec’s face. “What the hell are you talking about? And what was that in the memory? I know it wasn’t real because I don’t remember and because there is nothing between us.”
“Alexander, please listen to me—“
“No,” Alec raises a hand. “Just, stop. Why are you doing this?”
“Alexan—“
“Stop,” Alec says sharply, but there’s a desperation to his voice. “Stop with the Alexander and these lies. Just stop, Magnus. I thought we were friends. I don’t understand this.”
Magnus steps closer to Alec but the shadowhunter flinches back, and it twistens the knife that’s inside of him.
“Tell me you don’t feel it too,” Magnus asks.
“Are you hearing yourself?” Alec yells this time. “I’m fucking married, Magnus.”
“YES, YOU ARE. BUT NOT TO LYDIA. TO ME,” Magnus’s thunderous voice rages across the terrace.
He knows how insane this must sound to Alec but he doesn’t fucking care—if he’s going to have just one more day left with Alec’s memories, he’s going to spend it with Alec.
Even if they’re fighting.
His mind takes him back to their last sight and Magnus hates himself even more at the reminder. It was just a fight, and even if he was in pain that day, he’d never wish what he said to be true.
He didn’t want this. He never did.
He would never not want to be married to Alec.
He would never want Alec, his Alec, to be a stranger.
“Please. You have to remember me,” Magnus begs this time, and tears rapidly spread across his face.
He falls to the ground and before he knows, he lets out an anguished sob, desperate for the ground to take him in.
Right now, he wishes for the void that was Edom.
“Magnus,” Alec’s voice is low, and worried. “I don’t know how to help you. I don’t know what you want from me.”
He lets out another choked sob, “Please. It’s me, Alexander.”
An eternity might have passed as he stays on the ground but he knows it didn’t because he doesn’t have an eternity of life yet, just 24 hours. So, he knows he might still be there, crying infront of Alec on the terrace.
There’s a comforting, familiar hand on his shoulder. Magnus lifts his face up and Alec’s in front of him, kneeled on the floor, confusion and worry and a hundred other things on his face.
“Tell me.”
He looks into Alec’s eyes and it’s an invitation. He doesn’t know what for. He gathers the courage to speak anyways.
“You make really good crepes. No one believes me when I tell them but you like being the little spoon, and between the two of us, you’re the little spoon 9 out of ten times,” Magnus says brokenly. “You got me an onamari charm on one of our early days and that was the day I knew you were it for me.”
Magnus rubs the tears off of his face. “You call me baby because I annoyed you with weird pet names and you wanted revenge but both of us like it when you call me that. You love watching reality shows but you never shut up during them.”
The confusion on Alec’s face increased tenfold.
“You vowed that you would be my loving husband forever and you always tried your best to. I have never been loved like this before.”
There’s a long silence before a strong, shadowhunter hand is on his cheeks. Alec rubs the tears off of his face.
“Alec,” Magnus breathes hopefully.
“He seems like a lucky guy, Magnus. But it’s not me.,” Alec says sadly, and Magnus’s heart breaks some more. He shakes his head. “No. No. It’s you. There has to be a way.”
“For what?”
Magnus feels like the biggest idiot then because the answer has been infront of him the entire time.
“Do you trust me?”
Alec doesn’t say yes, there’s apprehension on his face and Magnus can’t blame him. If his casual acquaintance comes up to him one day and demands that he feels they’re married, he’d be pretty apprehensive too. But he doesn’t have time right now.
“I know you have no reason to trust me. But please, I can show you.”
“Show what?” Alec asks.
“My memories.”
“Magnus, I…”
“Please, Alexander. I would never do anything to hurt uou,” he says, even though he’s done plenty to ruin Alec’s life.
There’s a moment of hesitation before Alec replies. “Okay.”
Magnus stands up on his feet. He’s done this before once, he knows he has the power. That day, when he was trying to destroy his memories of Alec, ages ago now, he’d find the strength to do it.
Today, he’s motivated to keep his memories so he’ll find the strength again.
Magnus raises his fingers to his head and focuses his magic. He puts all his energy, his power, his magic, his love into it and brings out all the memories to the centre and spreads it across the room.
The entire sky around them is filled with blue magic, encompassing their years of memories between them.
Their first date.
The vows.
Lazy days on couch.
Strolls around the Central Park.
Alicante.
Alec blushing every time Magnus flirted.
Magnus blushing when Alec was being Alec.
Everything that he had, that he remember was outside for everyone to see.
Alec rises up from the floor and looks around, his eyes widening in pure, utter shock.
“Wha—“
“This is our life. This is everything I had with you.”
Alec walks across the web of memories, going through each one of them one by one.
He knows a good few hours of their last day pass before either of them speak a word. Before Alec turns to his, his face red with tears and anguish and everything that he himself feel.
“Magnus, this—“
He doesn’t say anything. He has nothing left to say now.
Then Alec turns, and breaks his heart some more.
“Baby,” Alec says in a broken whisper, “What did you do?”

If Avengers AU but not just simply copying the movies/comics.
Okay, Magnus in the role of Iron Man, because genius billionair fits him fine. Alec in the role of Captain America, because the whole superhuman soldier thing works well with him. Which makes Jace the Winter Soldier by default. Izzy could be Magnus' employee, working in the labs, giving her Hulk powers? (because why not?) So, background: Alec and Jace are military, and Jace gets lost during a mission/kidnapped by the circle (who would be like Hydra, I guess). Alec going against orders to find him, getting kidnapped as well. Because Malec know each other through Izzy, Magnus would be using his contacts (because rich people have contacts) to try and find out what is being done to find and rescue the missing Alec and Jace. When he finds out that their superiors have pretty much written them off, he gets angry and then he gets sciency, building the iron man suit. (Izzy wouldn't be experimenting on becoming the Hulk, exactly, but lab accident conveniently turning her into something like the hulk just at the right time to accompany Magnus in his finished suit to rescue her brothers) Meanwhile Alec and Jace have been experimented on with the super serum (hold the brainwashing, please), turning them into super soldiers. Planning their escape, but so far have been unsuccessful, because there are a lot of circle people and they have been freakishly prepared for what kind of powers the serum would give the two. But fortunately, during their latest attempt, Magnus and Izzy crash into the place as well, overwhelming the circle and getting Alec and Jace out of there. Thus begins the forming of the Avengers. (Clary could be like Thor… 🤣) (Ragnor could be like Jarvis!!!) (Sidenote, I'm sorry, but my manic and obsessive adoration of Peter Parker prevents me from ever accepting anyone else in the role of Spider-Man. So no Spidey in this story. - Unless it's Peter crossing over.)

I am tired. I mean I did work 12 hours today but I’m just like bone deep exhaustion and I want to pass out but also write.
And Cat is amazing okay. I love Cat and Ragnor and Magnus’ dynamic and I will forever be salty that we got half the casts girlfriends on the show (I’m looking at you terrible seelie queen and Heidi) unnecessarily and we didn’t get more Ragnor and Cat. Like they could have flash backed Ragnor or brought him back or anything. And Cat was deprived of showing off her glory and wisdom.
Snippet of unnamed fic
—
“A moment, lovely.” Magnus says and accepts the call.
“Yes, Cat? Why on earth are you calling, it’s your day off?” And Magnus has to pull the phone away from his ear as he pinches the bridge of his nose. “They couldn’t handle being quiet for twenty minutes?” Magnus asks, and signs in irritation, “well did it work? Because I’m busy and they can either simply stop breathing and see if that helps or continue to hold their tongues. I have more important things to take care of than their need for gossip.”
And Magnus rolls his eyes as Cat mutters threats she doesn’t actually mean.
“Catarina, you would never set my library on fire. You’d be much more likely to drunkenly try to abscond with my medical texts, like that one time in Sweden.”
Alexander snorts in his lap and he’s looking up at Magnus softly, like he’s the best thing to see.
Which Magnus knows, but it’s nice to be visibly appreciated.
He preens and his thumb passes over Alexander’s tempting mouth.
“No, I am not busy with my ‘flavor of the month’.” Magnus adds air quotes, knowing it makes his shadowhunter laugh. “Alexander is moving in and we need to pick out his things.” Alexander looks startled and a little wary and Magnus shushes him with a single look. “Darling, I can see your grumpy pout under that lovely smile of yours. You can keep what you have at your place for emergencies and I can get you all new things for mine.”
And Magnus delights at being able to dress Alexander in whatever he wants.
Alec is squinting up at him, eyes shards of peridot and Magnus summons an oak tree to shade them, wanting to enjoy Alexander's hazel eyes under the dappled and soft light of leaf filtered sun.
“Oh yes, Cat.” He says to the silence on his phone, “sorry. The sun got in the way.”
“Does it still exist?” Cat asks, in a snarky tone that Magnus would appreciate so much more if directed at anyone else.
“Of course.” Magnus says immediately and then frowns, “Hyde park may be missing an English oak. I almost went with a weeping beech, but I was worried the shade would be too strong.”
Catarina makes a noise like Ragnor’s incredibly ancient —bordering on heirloom— tea kettle.
“Magnus.” She groans and she sounds in pain, “why?”
And Magnus wonders how he hasn’t made himself clear.
“I was missing out on the wonder of Alexander’s eyes because the sun was in the way.” Magnus says slowly. “So shade was required.” And Cat finally seems to get it as she says nothing else for a moment.
“Your Alexander, huh?” She says leadingly, “I think you owe me brunch and some bottomless mimosas as we catch up. I’d heard some chatter but didn’t pay it mind since you didn’t say anything directly.”
And Magnus rolls his eyes but hums, agreeing to it, because he and Ragnor make it a point to argue with Cat as little as possible.
She is nearly always right, and gets very smug about it.

End of the Year Fic Recs!!!
thank you @echo-bleu for tagging me! <3
I adore this as a game because I love reccing fics (and really should do it more often because So. Much. Good.Fic). This is going to be all shadowhunters I'm afraid though because I am still very much in the shadowhunters brainrot stage and haven't read much of anything else. (Also, sorry to those I haven't left a comment for yet, I WILL, spoons have just been low this year...) Also, I'll try to keep it to one rec per author because there are so many wonderful authors, but definitely go check the other fics of these people (if you haven't already) they're all excellent.
Recommend up to 5 series or multi-chapter fics from 2023 that everyone should read (multi-year WIPs count, if the last update was in 2023).
Running from the Night by @to-the-stars-writing. My forever fic spouse and the fic I reread themost this year goes to the fantastic, angsty Alec goes to live in a small village to get away from the Clave because the poor dude is traumatized fic from to-the-stars. This fic is my fics spouse (yes I got @to-the-stars-writing's permission to marry this fic) and I love, love, love it so much.
Flames to Embers by @notcrypticbutcoy: teenage!Alec is poofed into the timeline of his older self and it is lovely, sad, and heartwarming all at the same time. Also, teenage Alec is delightfully grumpy and Adult Alec is even more delightfully Done with teenage!Alec's grumpiness.
starshine and moonlight by she_who_reads (all_fandoms_reader) A three +1 fic where Alec isn't enough until he finally is. This fic is angsty and delves into Alec's (not all that great) self-worth issues and it hurts. Might or might not have cried reading it.
The Warlock's Cat by @dreaming-marchling. I hesitated a while which one I should pick from Marchling, but I ended up choosing this one (that said PLEASE go read Bleed for Me as well it is so goooood). The Warlock's Cat is a delightful "Alec gets turned into a cat and ends up in Magnus's care" fic. I adore it, and while it has its angsty or whumpy spots, it's mostly a nice, feel-good read.
Magnus Bane: Menace by AceOnIce To give some reprieve from all of the angst in this list, here is a fic of pure, unabashed fluff. Starring: Warlock Alec and Shadowhunter Magnus, the latter of which writes some truly ridiculous mission reports to HOTI Ragnor's grief.
Recommend up to 5 single chapter fics/one-shots (long or short) from 2023 that everyone should read.
The river cannot go back by @lawsofchaos1. Alec being Alec and completely in love with Magnus which leads to him committing treason like it's nothing. It is a short, brilliant fic that had me screeching like any @lawsofchaos1 fic does.
I'm finding it hard to breath by Honey_Hued_Hermes This one is pretty heave, but it does have a Hopeful Ending. Alec never promised he would tell Magnus if things ever got that bad...and sadly they do. Diving into Alec's Suicidal Thoughts and his Self-Harm tendencies.
A Most Fundamental Truth by autisticalec A missing scene from 2X10 when Alec tells Magnus that he's never been as terrified as when he feared Magnus had died from the Soul Sword. This one-shot dives into the "Alec was really very not okay emotionally" in this scene, so go read it!
The Difficult Task by @dani-dabbles: Another Alec is going through it emotionally fic (there are quite a lot of these on this list I just realized, oops). Thankfully, Magnus is there to offer support when Alec needs it because Magnus is still the best boyfriend. (also the repeated "not good enough"is evil and I am suing for emotion damages, please and thank you very much)
come to me (in the night hours) by @moonlight-breeze-44 Izzy is a supportive sister and is there emotionally for Alec right before his wedding to Lydia. This fic left me feeling all sad and weepy. This fic is technically part of a series, but as no other parts have been posted yet I am posting this in the one-shot part.
Recommend up to 5 fics NOT from 2023 that everyone should read (oldies but goodies).
I've Always Dreamed of Meeting Someone Like You by ColorfulWarlock A non-magical Alternate Universe this time around. Single-dad, fashion designer, and CEO Magnus needs someone to draw his designs for him after a hit-and-run leaves him unable to draw for himself. Insert Alec, the wonderful babysitter, and game designer who seems to understand what Magnus envisions and draw them into reality!
Angelus ex Machina by BlueA The series starts with the sudden disappearance of demon activity and the way that lack of activity impacts the local Shadow World. I love the way the parabatai bond is portrayed in this fic (especially in the third installment).
through the fire and pain by alxndrlightwoods is another parabatai-bond deep-dive that goes deep into how a parabatai bond can change shadowhunters. It also explains why, if parabatai are so powerful, there aren't that many of them. Love this fic!
i cannot touch because they are too near by @faejilly nobody manages to write poetry without writing poetry quite like @faejilly for me, seriously the words are always so beautiful I am in awe. This fic has to be my absolute favorite though because deep-dives into the parabatai bond are interesting to begin with but the way Jilly decides to do so in this fic makes it go from interesting to absolutely brilliant.
Greater Love Hath No Man by @lawsofchaos1 Okay, I lied, here is a second Laws fic, but considering this fic led to the demise of my laptop, I felt that it deserved to be on the list. (No, that wasn't a joke). Dad!Alec is forced to send baby!Max away to a warlock orphanage when his magic grows too strong for him and leaves him injured. The pain is real and it is excruciating, tissues are advised.
Recommend up to 5 of your own fics (completed or WIP) from 2023 that everyone should read.
As much as I adore reccing fics, doing self-recs is awkward, so I'm going to keep this to one rec before I combust into flames.
All Was Golden (everyone has probably read that one already because it's my most-read fic which makes this slightly less awkward than reccing any other of my fics.) Anyway, soulmate AU with a kind of ugly meet that has some angst.
Tagging, without any kind of pressure, the authors I tagged in the rec-list (if they haven't participated already) as well as @miss-mouse.
#rec game#foodsies rambles#I love all of these fics so much#and there were so many more I wanted to include#maybe I should do rec lists more often#even if nobody reads them

I'm sorry but "Belial gave them their powers" makes no sense because why would he give them to Lucie? That man is a dictionary example of a misogynist. He wouldn't even think of her.
also. wasn't there a whole thing with Ragnor wanting James to train as a warlock? so he thought it was possible that James could practice magic...
idk if you can tell... but I absolutely hate that tlh ended with the "main character loses their special powers at the end of the series" trope.

idk if ur still taking requests/ideas or not, but if so, do you think you could write a little something about Magnus taking in a young warlock and teaching them magic, like how Ragnor did all those years ago with him?
I’m sorry this took so long, anon. I hope you’re still around✨
——
Crickets chirped loudly from their hiding places, and a breeze blew across the crowded alley holding the Kyoto Shadow Market, raining bright fall leaves onto the stalls. Magnus generally preferred to come to Kyoto in spring time, when it was the cherry blossoms shedding their petals like a warm pink blizzard, but fall certainly had its charms as well.
He stopped to examine a stall selling fruit and flowers gathered from the parts of Faerie more easily accessed from gateways in Japan, and harder to find in New York. He was contemplating the flowers, trying to determine which he might need for potions in the near future, when he noticed movement out of the corner of his eye.
Magnus grabbed the hand before it could reach out and snatch one of the fruits. “I wouldn’t do that,” he murmured, soft enough that only the would-be-thief could hear. “Stolen faerie food isn’t safe to eat.”
“Let go of me, asshole!” the girl he had grabbed said in the kind of stilted English that had likely never been used outside of a classroom full of kids giggling over swear words they had learned to fluster the teacher. She was wearing a school uniform track suit with a huge scarf wound around her neck.
Magnus steered the girl away from the faerie stall before she could draw more attention to herself.
“Is this your first time in a Shadow Market,” he asked, switching to Japanese.
The girl looked relieved and stopped trying to struggle out of his grip. “I didn’t know where to go. I saw lights I had never seen before, and I followed them here.” Her free hand reached up to touch the scarf around her neck, bulkier than the material should have been, and Magnus had an inkling of what the answers to the rest of his questions were going to be.
They had broken out of the thickest part of the crowd, and Magnus spotted a stall selling noodles, the stools around the bar-like table shielded by a half curtain.
The girl watched him warily as he ordered two bowls of noodles and gestured for her to sit down. “I don’t have any money,” she said.
“I know,” Magnus replied. “It’s obvious that you’ve never tried to steal anything before. If you’d had money, you would have used it. Sit down, you must be hungry.”
The girl sat and looked between her bowl of noodles, topped with a thin slice of fried tofu, and the fox-like faerie who had served them to her. “Kitsune udon,” she muttered under her breath, with the air of someone still astonished to find out how much of their folklore was based on truth. “I never thought about why it was called that.”
“Do you have a name?” Magnus asked. She might not yet, depending on how long it had been since she found out what she was. Magnus hadn’t for a long time in the gap between the normal child he thought he had been and the person he had found himself to be.
“Aoi,” the girl mumbled, swallowing a mouthful of soup. She ate slowly, Magnus noticed, taking a long time between one bite of food and the next. He also noticed that she hadn’t removed her scarf, despite the warmth of the noodle stall.
“I’m going to make a guess, and I want you to tell me how close I am,” Magnus said. “Something about you changed suddenly, and frightened you so badly, you ran away. Kyoto is filled with foxfire lights, which you were suddenly able to see. You followed them here and found yourself surrounded by all manor of things you thought only existed in stories.”
Aoi nodded, something about the movement awkward and uncoordinated. “I turned into a monster,” she whispered.
“Not a monster,” Magnus said gently. “A warlock, a magic user, like I am. Warlocks bear marks showing what they are,” he gestured at his own cat eyes, “but sometimes the marks and the ability to use magic don’t come until a child is older.” Aoi look like she was thirteen or fourteen. Old for a warlock mark to manifest, but not unheard of.
“It was my school trip. Everything was normal, and then suddenly it wasn’t,” she said. “They all screamed when they saw me,” she added in a strained whisper.
“No one here will scream,” Magnus said.
Aoi unwound her scarf, revealing an elongated neck, coiled around itself like a snake, that she had done her best to hide under the fabric. She watched Magnus warily, like she still expected him to scream and run for the hills. When he didn’t, she relaxed a little.
“How did this happen to me?” she asked.
Magnus sighed. “Warlocks are children of humans and demons. The demonic blood is what marks us and gives us the ability to use magic, but it doesn’t make us monstrous or evil. No more than any other person at least. Some demons can shapeshift. It’s likely your mother never knew what had happened.”
Aoi scrubbed a hand over her eyes, wiping away the tears before they could fall. “I can’t ever go home.”
“Do you know that for sure?” Magnus said gently. “You said your warlock mark appeared during a school trip. There’s a chance your family will still welcome you home.” It happened, sometimes, to warlocks who were lucky.
“Did your family welcome you?”
“No,” Magnus said. “But I have friends who grew up loved, despite what they are. The choice is yours. If you want to return home, I’ll go with you and help explain your situation. If you would rather stay here, I’ll teach you how to navigate the Market and how to glamor yourself so normal humans won’t notice your warlock mark.”
“I want my mom,” Aoi said in the kind of small plaintive voice that made her sound very, very young.
Magnus waved his hands, a Portal forming right inside the curtain of the stall. The kitsune behind the counter glared at him. Most Downworlders considered it rude to open Portals in the middle of the Market. Magnus ignored him and stood up.
“Then let’s go and hope for the best,” Magnus said. “Think of home and this will take us straight there.”
Aoi’s eyes went wide with awe. She looked down at her own hands. “Will I be able to do this kind of magic?”
“With enough time and training,” Magnus said. “Being a warlock isn’t all bad,” he added with a wink. “Now think about home.”
Aoi wound her scarf back around her coiled neck, took a deep breath, and led the way through the Portal.

part four of season one recap 🔥
the only times I liked clary:
and also this:
I think she can get a little leeway in perhaps the first episode but after all she does, I don’t feel bad for her and I can’t stand her character. Clary and Jace are almost the same person so it’s no wonder Valentine convinced them that they’re siblings. AND ALSO HOW DUMB DO YOU HAVE TO BE TO BELIEVE A VILLAIN?????? THEY ARE KNOWN LIARS AND SOCIOPATHS
they’re both conceited but jace on the other hand knows better. he’s been a shadowhunter for years and knows not to treat Alec and Izzy as they don’t matter. Clary goes to the shadow world and starts bossing everyone around all in the name of finding her mother. which I try to sympathize but when she is making Alec’s life worse than no, I don’t like you. she also doesn’t seem to ever be grateful to Alec. almost ruined everything and is like I guess I should thank you. I GUESS????????? my boy Alec is the reason you have your mother because they could’ve sent your ass to idris.
Alec has done nothing but take the blame and go on numerous missions for the sake of Jocelyn. she’s not a good person and I still stand by this: YALL SHOULD HAVE SENT HER ASS TO IDRIS THE MOMENT SHE SHOWED UP
Alec’s life is on the line- his family’s reputation, the institutes reputation, Izzy almost losing her runes, the emotional turmoil this puts on Alec, an arranged marriage for Alec. you can even put ragnor dying. Jace and clary run around not thinking about the consequences and repercussions. honestly clary and jace deserve each other since they want to suffocate everyone else all in the name of their “love”. I don’t buy their chemistry. it’s not there. there is absolutely nothing to root for. and I know I’m biased coming from a Malec fan but the acting isn’t there for clary and Jace, their characters don’t have any redeeming qualities so what are we supposed to root for? there’s nothing special from either of them
I just really love his eyes 😌
alec knows that Magnus used all his magic and he’s, he’s cleaning for Magnus 🥹
but some moments of alec being the caring, loving, moody man that he is:
his little pouty face and everything 🥹
THE GAY PANIC IS REAL
to be fair, people are annoying so 😬
and then before I leave ya for the last part of the recap, I have to add these scenes because the facial expressions are everything (ALEC FORGOT WHY HES HAPPY) I’m sorry but it’s so fucking funny and just makes me love Alec and Magnus even more
let me just add these ones: (I love AU mags)
so I’ll see y’all in a minute and I have one more part to do. Im going to include some Raphael and Simon (because they’re amazing) and more Malec stuff but thank y’all for enduring me 🥰

oh my god
Oh My God
OH MY GOD
This chapter was a ✨masterpiece✨
It was ✨art✨
The tension, the drama, the reveals ✨chefs kiss✨
Magnus Bane, the leader of the Warlock Council ✨legendary and phenomenal ✨. All hail our Lord and Saviour.
All chapters should be like this. I don't need therapy after reading them. Honestly, I am in awe of your writing skills. The planning you have done, oh my god. Dani, I would marry this piece of work, if I could.
The apocalyptic universe. I got chills reading about it. The way you managed to portray the eeriness of that universe is truly so amazing. Like, you can't help but feel chills when you read about it. The visualization was amazing. Then, I don't know if its just me, but the way you can feel that in that universe, there are so less people. It feels so desolate. You can feel it. When I'm reading stuff, there is a kind of color which is associated with that universe. This universe was black to me. Lbaf has been red at times, sometimes dark blue, but never black. Right now, it feels grey but the future universe is black. Almost obsidian. Everyone's desperation can be felt. Like you portrayed it so well. Max feels so similar yet so different at the same time. You can understand from the way he thinks that the past 700 years have weighed down on him. Magnus has also changed. I can't help but feel it's so cruel, the warlock's fate. Everyone else just died. The nephilim I mean. But the Warlocks have to keep living in that universe, deal with the aftermaths. Also, since it's been 700 years and Magnus was already 400, then that means he is more than a thousand years old.And now he has suffered so much, lost his best friends too. Magnus, in my interpretation of him, at least, has never been one who has a "we do what we need to do" mindset. To me, he's more lf a "do what's right" But now he's a leader and he has that entire thing to do what needs to be done. It's a bit scary.
Sorry for ranting so much. I just have so many thoughts about this chapter. In case in wasn't clear, I'm in love. I might be back later to spill more thoughts.
Keep writing such masterpieces.
Much Love💙
Thank you so much, bebe. All the glitter made me feel very warm and I had a very busy day (the irony of overworking women to celebrate women's day lmao) so this made my day 💙
I'm so glad that you picked up exactly what I put down. It was exactly the vibe I was going for and it was definitely interesting to write. I think in any post-apocalyptic world there are stages of existence (liek 5 stages of grief almost) and i think, if i may so, OM and the others are currently at the bargaining stage - so it's despair mixed with hope. they are literally clinging to it because they know there is no fixing this. We literally only saw his world for a few hours. but there is SO MUCH depth there.
Which is why i wanted to write the Diary of Other Max. I wanted to explore the Warlock Academy, Max meeting Story, the first person he killed, Max coming back to find the apartment gone, his first time portal and JUST EVERYTHING AH.
Your analysis of Other Magnus is quite on point. He is definitely a leader of circumstance unlike Rafael and Alec - who were groomed for it and genuinely wanted it. So, you can see that it's weighing on him and Magnus is as desperate as everyone else. I do think Ragnor was a big influence in Magnus taking up the position (Hermes must have def done some guilt tripping there hehe)
Thank you for the love x
