Designed for the Melbourne National Sustainable Living Festival 2018, the Solar Tree collects solar energy in its branches and funnels it down a central tree trunk-like pillar where it is captured in a battery. The design features USB power charging sockets, LED lighting and a circular seat paneled with wood reclaimed from ageing trees in Melbourne municipality. This solar tree represents how we can harness the earth’s natural energy and natural wonders.

What is Tree of Water and Power?

TWP is a better way to mount photovoltaic cells using less material and labor, lower cost, and greater PV surface area than all current mounting methods, including existing 'solar trees.' TWP adheres to principles that govern trees in nature; a law observed by Leonardo da Vinci, that dictates that the cross-sectional area of branches above are equal to the generations of branches below; ultimately all the branches at the top add up to the same diameter as the trunk.

A façade of 'solar leaves' forms NUDES' sustainable observation tower concept guided by principles of sustainable design, NUDES has conceived of a net-zero energy observatory tower. the concept, called ‘solar tree’, explores the notion of a modular architecture composed of prefabricated ‘cells’, where people can enjoy views of the surrounding landscape. similarly to the studio’s forest school proposal, the project is characterized by a cylindrical form and an array of projecting balconies. The vertical core consists of a circular ramp that connects to an orbicular corridor. leading into individual observatory cells. these cells are rotated and stacked to create a dynamic assembly that offers varied vistas and experiences at every level. each modular, prefabricated ‘cell’ consists of projecting balconies that allow visitors to step out of the tower’s skin and absorb the landscape devoid of any visual barriers. NUDES has also imagined these cells to house lightweight ‘solar leaves’, which could potentially contribute to net-zero energy requirements. CSIR-CMERI developed Solar Tree besides being the World’s Largest Solar Tree it also has certain customizable features for application at diverse sites. The Solar Trees were designed in a manner to ensure minimum Shadow Area, thus potentially making these Solar Trees available for widespread usage in Agricultural activities such as High Capacity Pumps, e-Tractors and e-Power Tillers. Tag 104 Min ist 31 Jahre alt. Sie ist Chinesin und lebt mit ihrem Mann und ihrer 2-jährigen Tochter einer modernen Penthousewohnung im 12. Stock mit Blick über die Skyline Singapurs. Die Wohnung liegt im beliebten Stadtteil River Valley und ist große genug, dass auch noch ihrer philippinische Haushelferin ein eigenes Zimmer hat. So können Min und ihr Mann Quentin nach wie vor ihren Vollzeitjob nachgehen und Stück für Stück die Karriereleiter erklimmen. Quentin Eltern kommen aus Frankreich, da der Vater in der Ölindustrie arbeitet, ist Quentin schon als Kind viel rumgekommen. Jeweils 3 Jahre haben sie im Durchschnitt in einem Land gewohnt unter anderem in Marokko, Guadeloupe und Hongkong. In London hat er dann Finanzwirtschaft studiert, wo er auch Min kennen gelernt hat. Ihre Tochter Maja wächst also 3-sprachig auf. Mit ihrem Papa spricht sie Französisch, mit ihrer Mama chinesisch, im Kindergarten wird Englisch gesprochen und von ihrer Ziehmutter lernt sie zudem noch ein paar Brocken Philippinisch. Min habe ich in Neuseeland kennengelernt. Genau wie ich hatte sie sich entschieden einen 10-tägigen Vipassana teilzunehmen. Und so hat es sich ergeben, dass Gina und ich 3 Wochen später für ein paar Tage bei ihr in Singapur unterkommen. Min zeigt uns dabei nicht nur die angesagtesten Rooftopbars der Stadt, sondern auch wo man am Besten Hot Pot, Wontons oder Bubble Tea trinken kann. Wir sind im kulinarischen Asienhimmel angekommen. Und zum Abschluss gibt es noch ein Picknick unter den Solartrees in den Gardens by the bay, wo es jeden Abend zu passender Musik die Lichter in den Bäumen blinken. Ich bin begeistert und überwältigt von dieser Stadt, die so multikulturell, so vielfältig und irgendwie surreal ist.

Und am Ende heißt es wieder Abschied nehmen von Min und ihrer Familie, von Gina, die wieder nach Deutschland fliegt und von Singapur, denn auch für mich geht es wieder weiter. Diesmal nach Rajasthan in Indien.
