TAFAKKUR: Part 304
NANOTECHNOLOGY: Part 3
ALWAYS CLEAN CLOTHING (8,9)
Imagine textiles that cannot be stained or wrinkled, that always maintain the look and feel of fabrics made from natural fibers. Imagine materials that are 100 times stronger than steel, but weigh only one-sixth as much. Nanofibers could be used in astronauts' suits, moving with them as they work to give them greater flexibility in space, or to allow the disabled greater mobility by acting as extra muscles.
Imagine batteries that take up less than one cubic millimeter, but supply a medical implant with power. Imagine sensors, smaller than a pinpoint, that detect anything in extremely low concentrations, from specific antibodies to toxic chemicals.
A big splash of coffee leaves an unmistakable stain on an ordinary pair of trousers; on a pair of nanotextile trousers, it can be brushed off without leaving a trace. A titanium frying pan and the laser in a fairly modern CD player are both based on nanotechnology. By using nanotechnology, wall paint could automatically sterilize an operating theatre, filters could be used in water purifiers to automatically kill undesirable bacteria, and roofing tiles that convert solar light into household electricity could give way to reinforced self-repairing houses immune to all natural disasters "short of a large incoming meteor.
Hence nano-technology is and will continue to become part of our everyday lives ... sometimes without us even noticing.
MICHAEL CRICHTON (11)
Crichton says "These organisms [self-reproducing tiny computers] will be created by nanotechnology, perhaps the most radical technology in human history: the quest to build man-made machines of extremely small size, on the order of 100 nanometers, or 100/billionths of a meter. Such machines would be 1,000 times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. Experts predict that these tiny machines will provide everything from miniaturized computer components to new medical treatments to new military weapons. In the 21st century, they will change our world totally.
"The potential benefits are spectacular: Tiny robots may crawl through your arteries, cutting away atherosclerotic plaque; powerful drugs will be delivered to individual cancer cells, leaving other cells undamaged; teeth will be self-repairing. Cosmetically, you will change your hair color with an injection of nanomachines that circulate through the body, moving melanocytes in hair follicles. Other nanomachines will lighten or darken skin color at will, removing blemishes, birthmarks and liver spots in the process; still others could cleanse the mouth and eliminate bad breath. Nonsurgical nanoprocesses could even perform liposuction and body reshaping. They will also repair knees and spines.
Living spaces will be transformed with self-cleaning dishes and carpets and permanently clean bathrooms. Windows will lighten or darken at will; programmable paint will change color. You can walk through the walls of your house, since they are composed of particle clouds. Your personal computer and your watch will be painted on your arm. Temperature-sensitive clothing will loosen when it gets hot, insulate when it gets cold."
In the future, roving nanomachines will convert trash dumps to energy, solar nanomachines will be coated on the houses to generate electricity, and flexible nanomachines will provide earthquake protection. It may even be possible to move a house across the lawn on the backs of millions of nanomachines.
In 2003, nanotechnology is still very much in its infancy. However, such major corporations as IBM, Fujitsu, and Intel are funding this research. U.S. government investment has gone from virtually nothing only a few years ago to well over $600,000,000 per year in 2003.
At present, nonotechniques are being used to make sunscreens, stain-resistant fabrics, and composite materials for cars; soon, they will be used to make extremely small computers and storage devices. Pittsburgh based PPG Industries, Inc. is making self-cleaning window glass; the Westaim Corporation of Toronto is making nanocrystal wound dressings with antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. Currently, nanotechnology is principally a material technology.
Most experts predict that self-reproducing machines are only a decade away. Man-made, self-reproducing entities already have been released into the environment. The first of these, of course, were computer viruses. The first viruses were created as a game ("core wars"), a 1960s battle between mainframe programmers, each releasing a program into the other's mainframe computer. Originally limited to specialists, hackers soon joined in. The growth of computer networking made rapid worldwide transmission possible. Computer viruses, worms on the Internet, have become an international threat to information and global business.
Scientists are witnessing some of the problems of self-replicating biotechnology agents. For example, a recent report indicates that modified maize genes are appearing in native maize in Mexico, despite laws against it and efforts to prevent it. This is only the start of probably a long journey to control this new technology. Laws have been passed to put hackers in jail; delinquent biotechnologists will soon join them. We need international controls to deal with self-reproducing technologies right now, whereas now there are essentially none.

The Dark Side Rises...
I love to watch cosplayers on Youtube, where such luminaries as Adam Savage are inspirational but can provoke the dark side with envy of his access to a machine shop, original props for photos and friends in the movie business.
Let's face it, Adam Savage is the Holy Grail of replica prop building, and he does inspire with the fullness of his heart that other makers follow their hearts and build too. That leads other people into getting their hands dirty and in time they too become leaders in their fields as they show the skills they are developing and designs they have for fabulous replica props from our favourite movie universes. One of the best of these is one I have mentioned before and that is Dan of Buckethead Props, whose gentle fun videos are always inspirational and still show that we can make this stuff at home, with out needing access to a five axis CNC lathe! This is not to say that his stuff is poor quality, if anything the exact opposite is true, his stuff is brilliant and well beyond what I can produce, but he does inspire still.
Recently, Buckethead Props reached a milestone in Youtube subscribers and to celebrate this, they have set up a Lightsabre build challenge and for once, I have decided to give it a go.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z50gt9TTz3w
The rules are very simple, do what ever you like, but you have a budget of only £20. This was something that I thought about at first and then rejected, but the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to take part in it. A quick comment on his video saw Dan reply with a bit of gentle encouragement to his viewers and I set about designing my sabre.
There are some things I want in a sabre and obviously it has to be Dark Side, which means a red Crystal and red Blade. However, I am also a Rebels fan, so I want a sabre that will fit into their world. That leaves me the sabre of the Inquisitors, of Maul or even Vader himself, but none of them appeal, so I got thinking...
“What would have happened if Ezra had turned to the Dark Side and gone with Maul on Malachor?”
To go down this path, Ezra would have turned his back on Kanan and after Maul had blinded him it is likely that Ezra may have even killed his old master, taking his sabre. Becoming Maul's apprentice in the Darkside, it is possible that they would have followed the rules of the Sith as set out by Darth Bane and eventually when Maul had taught him as much as he could, Ezra would have murdered Maul too.
I call this sabre the Dark Ezra...
As a disabled person, money is tight and the budget of £20 was a big bite out of my monthly spending, especially given that this was effectively to be spent on something that may not even work. So I set about finding as many recyclable materials as possible and with some bits already in stock, I only had six things to purchase for it. The first item I bought was a cheap LED torch for £1.99 and a set of cheap and very low quality bicycle lights from The Range for £3.99. I wanted to fit a sound module for a light sabre and found a cheap child's toy on Amazon for £4.99. I purchased a steel bolt for a few pence from our local engineers suppliers. I also purchased a solar powered garden light for under a pound. The last (or rather the first, although I did not know it at the time) thing was a toy pistol from Poundland, however I bought this for a costume about five years ago and I have no idea if these are still available and this was used for the sound board again.
My first task was to set about the wiring, taking the lights apart and dismantling the toy sabre too, before I attacked them with my soldering iron. Which resulted in my first major mistake when attaching batteries to the sword sound module and turned the main chip to ash. That was £4.99 wasted and left me feeling annoyed with myself, for attaching the leads the wrong way around. This was despite photographing the board so that I could see the wiring.
Putting the wiring to the side for a while, I set about constructing the chassis of the sabre and it was here that I really wanted a blaster built into the hilt, just like Ezra's first sabre. I had some old wood in the scrap pile, purchased months and years before to build a cage for our pet owl... More on her later. The scraps of wood were from the cheapest wood we could use to build the cage, unfinished beams for holding up plasterboard, cheap off cuts and recycled bits from the shed. This left me with two small offcuts, a piece of 30x75mm and a piece of 30x30mm. Using chisels and a craft knife, I took the corners off of the 30x30 for the handle, turning it into a lovely octagonal shape that fitted beautifully into my hand. I also hollowed out the other piece of wood to allow for the fitting of a crystal and the electronics.
It has been many years since I last used woodworking tools and I now bare the scars of trying to use such fine tools, with hands damaged by arthritis caused by years of extreme sport. What would have taken an accomplished woodworker no more than an hour or so, took me three fabulously enjoyable days, despite the damage I did to myself! The mess was delicious with wood shavings everywhere and the grin on my face was worth every second of it even when it came time to clean up the mess I had made. With the wood sanded back I set about finding some recyclable items that I could use and the first thing to hack apart was some broken 1990s Sony Hi-Fi equipment, from which I salvaged some micro-switches and a lot of thin, nasty cables. I did think about using the laser from the CD drive, but I was worried that I could blind someone with it, if I ever managed to make the driver work. With that idea scrapped, I salvaged some very old LEDs (which I never used in the end) and some buttons and dials that could have made some interesting greeblies. I was given some offcuts from from a plumbing job, none of which were of use to a plumber. I had some screws that came from the Hi-Fi and some strips of plastic that I could cut up. I did think about using the circuit boards, but the Hi-Fi kit was very old and dusty and frankly the resistors were almost the same size as my sound modules! The majority of this thing was going to be built from second hand junk and scrap.
The handle was perfect to hide the battery compartment and the torch came with three AAA batteries, which are the cheapest nastiest calls I have ever seen, but given that they cost me nothing, I used them. The bolt became the positive terminal and using parts from the HI-Fi I was able to make the negative terminal in the handle. I used old cables to run the power to the crystal chamber and then I had to make the crystal.
The Crystal was a challenge, I wanted something red that would emit red light and all I had were a set of bicycle lights, until I damaged another board with my soldering iron. This was the board that ran the rear light, which was a small strip of red LEDs powered by two AAA cells. I wanted to extend the LEDs from the board into the crystal chamber, but a momentary switch started giving me problems and I almost gave up with the idea, until I decided that the crystal from the garden light worked a lot better. A white LED from the front light gave the blade aperture a nice red glow when coated with glass paint and the LED from the torch attached to the sound board from the toy pistol gave me a blaster effect that I really enjoyed. With no further electronics needed, it just needed to be put together and soldered into place...
I very nearly buggered it all up when I got confused with my wiring and after a couple of days of sulking (resting from the flu), I worked it out and set it all in place, carefully covered up and with the speaker from the pistol making the appropriate pew pew noises from out of the side of the blaster. The LED from the torch shone out through the small barrel that I had drilled into the wood and capped with the bezel of the torch.
I wanted to paint the sabre, but I also wanted it to look beaten up and well used, so I wrapped it with a small piece of ASDA tin foil and painted on top of that with no undercoat. Once the paint had dried, I was able to scratch it and make it look aged and used, especially once I had applied a bit of weathering too. I should also add that given that I had bought the toy sabre for the sound board, which I broke, I still had to use a bit of it to make the expense worthwhile. So I chopped the top off the damn thing, which turned out to be made from the cheapest plastic going. Given how much this thing cost me, I had expected a little better from it, but such is the way when you buy the cheapest shit on Amazon. Again this was painted, weathered and made to look manky.
I used the body of the front light to make the end of the handle and cover up the engineering bolt and attached to this I made a hanger from some old washers. It was then that I had a flash of inspiration. If Dark Esra had killed Kanan and Maul, maybe he would have taken the crystals from their sabres and attached them to his own as trophies, a lovely dark thought. It still needed something though and then I thought about the Loth-Owls that had followed Ahsoka around on Lothal, what if Esra had caught one and taken its feathers? So I set about our pet owl Alby with with a set of clippers! Don't worry, that is a joke, my other half keeps nice feathers when she sheds them, which happens occasionally. I wrapped the feather stems with wire salvaged from the Hi-Fi, weathered them with some paint and attached them to the hilt.

With that, I was done. It sounds so easy when typed out like this, but it took me ages and I loved every dark second of it, even when I buggered it up. I just need to total up my expenses and then work out how to use Instagram so that I can submit my entry to the competition. Ahhh, the things that these younglings do!
LED torch - £1.99
Bike lights - £3.99
Laser sword - £4.99
Garden light - £0.89
Engineering bolt - £0.75
Toy gun - 1.00

d20 Modern Stats for the Fallen from Destiny
The Fallen/Eliksni
Species Traits
Ability Modifiers:Str+2, Dex+2, Int-2, Cha-2.
Monstrous Humanoid.
Medium
Darkvision: Eliksni have Darkvision out to a range of 60ft
Four Arms (Ex): An Eliksni can wield four medium-sized or smaller weapons or two large weapons simultaneously, the extra set of arms grant the Eliksni a +4 bonus to Climb and Grapple checks, the extra arms are treated as off-hands. Unless Docked (see below) or unable to access Ether (see below) the second set of arms/hands will regrow over a period of 1d6 weeks if cut off.
Ether Dependence (Su): Eliksni require a specialized substance called Ether to function, All Eliksni carry a specialized air tank and breathing apparatus with 24 hours worth of Ether. If an Eliksni is forced to operate without Ether for an extended period of time they will sicken, suffering a -2 penalty to all rolls and checks until they have their supply restored. If they go without Ether for a number of days equal to 2x their Constitution score, they will die. As a Fallen grows larger it requires more Ether to function properly. Ether also influences the growth of an Eliksni (See Fallen Class)
Docking (Ex): As a punishment for real or perceived crimes against their fellow Eliksni, an individual Fallen can have its lower set of arms docked and their Ether ration is reduced to half what a Medium sized Eliksni would usually receive, preventing the arms from growing back and negating the Climb and Grapple bonuses they normally apply. In addition the Docked Eliksni loses its +2species bonus to strength and its Charisma penalty is increased to -4. If a docked an Eliksni had previously increased its size through the Fallen class, it immediately shrinks back to medium size losing all size based bonuses and penalties, if that Fallen's status is restored, their size will restore at the same rate as their arms.
Base Land Speed: 40feet.
Bonus Feats: Eliksni receive Archaic Weapons Proficiency and Light Armor Proficiency as Bonus feats
Skill Bonuses: Eliksni receive a +4 Species Bonus to Hide, Jump, and Spot checks.
Languages: All Eliksni can receive Read/Write and Speak Language (Eliksni), most can learn English or another human language
Level Adjustment:+2.

Class Skills: Climb(Str), Drive(Dex), Hide(Dex), Intimidate(Cha), Jump(Str), Listen(Wis), Move Silently(Dex), Pilot(Dex) and Spot(Wis).
Skill Points (First Level): 2x Int Score
Skill Points (Level up): 2
Bonus Feats: At 3rd 6th and 9th Level an Eliksni may select from one of the following feats as long as they have the prerequisites: Alertness, Armor Proficiency (Medium, Heavy or Power), Brawl, Combat Martial Arts, Defensive Martial Arts, Frightful Presence, Leadership, Multi-Weapon Fighting, Personal Firearms Proficiency, and Power Attack
Size Increase: As an Eliksni rises through the ranks of their clan their Ether ration is increased allowing fo impressive physical growth. At 5th level, an Eliksni's size increases to Large and at 10th level it increases to Huge, when this happens the Eliksni receives all the benefits/penalties related to increasing size. If a Eliksni is Docked, it will immediately shrink back to Medium size, negating these effects, if the Docking is reversed, they will gradually reattain their previous size/benefits and penalties over a period of 1d6 weeks as their lower arms regrow.
Extra Attacks: Whenever an Eliksni increases in size, it gains the ability to make upto two Stomp Attacks per round as part of a Full Attack Action. Stomp Attacks are made at the Eliksni's Highest Melee attack Bonus -10 and can be performed along side Ranged attacks or Melee Attacks. A Large Eliksni's the Stomp Attack deals 1d4+half Strength Modifier Bludgeoning damage, at huge the damage increases to 1d6. If an Eliksni is docked it loses access to its stomp attacks till its arms regrow.
Example Fallen
Shank
A Shank is a Fallen scout, sentry, and repair drone. Shanks can be deployed from Walkers.
Shanks attack in small swarms and fire small plasma cannons in short bursts. For the most part, their attacks are relatively weak. They can also boost themselves up to avoid grenades or small arms fire, but this tactic isn't used often.
Because their offensive capabilities appear to be based on attacking in numbers, individual Shanks are lightly armored and are easily destroyed. When the Epic modifier is active, Shanks have a shield that is vulnerable to Solar damage.

Servitor
A Servitor is a spherical, mechanical Fallen class. Servitors can float in air and shoot purple Void blasts from their eye. A Servitor's weak point is the center of its eye. They provide the Fallen's life-sustaining ether and are treated as gods by the Fallen.
Living relics of the past Fallen civilization, Servitors are highly advanced machines that can process matter and energy into the Ether that all Fallen depend on for life. They can fulfill a support role on the battlefield, but also anchor Fallen communications networks and provide technological support.
Although Servitors fulfill a vital role in Fallen society, they are integrated in a complex way. Servitors are attached to a Prime Servitor, the largest and most powerful Servitor in a Fallen House. The Prime Servitor exists in an unclear symbiosis with a Fallen Archon, who works to convey the wishes of the House's Kell to the Prime Servitor. Some recent developments suggest that Prime Servitors play a key role in Fallen space flight.
In combat, Servitors act as support units to groups of Fallen, buffing up any nearby Fallen and raining powerful energy blasts from afar. They also have a tendency to teleport short distances to evade fire and throw off a players' aim, so careful tracking of them is necessary. Servitors are quite resilient as well, and tend to spin around to try to conceal their vulnerable eye.
Therefore, it is advised that a Servitor be the primary target in a group of Fallen, so that it can't buff up nearby units, and their powerful energy blasts don't cause any ranged grief.
Prime Servitor
Prime Servitors are a focus of worship and logistical activity within a Fallen House. They serve as part of House leadership alongside an Archon and a Kell.
Prime Servitors are viewed as gods within their respective Houses, due to the life sustaining Ether they produce. While they were once seen as beacons of hope for the Fallen people in the wake of the Whirlwind, they are now tools of control used by Kells. Servitors within each House are attached to their Prime, and possess unique programming from other Servitors connected to different Primes. Prime Servitors exist in an unclear symbiosis with Fallen Archons, who act as their caretakers and protectors. It is thought that Prime Servitors may play a key role in Fallen star flight. In some instances, a Prime can act as the leader of a House in the stead of Kell, however they depends on their Archon's to protect them and their ability to lead is weak.
Species Traits
Construct traits (Ex): Servitors have dark vision with a range of 60 feet. Servitors are immune to mind-influencing effects, poison, sleep, paralysis, stunning, disease, necromancy effects, and any effect that requires a Fortitude save unless the effect also works on objects or is harmless. They are not subject to critical hits, nonlethal damage, ability damage, ability drain, energy drain, or the effects of massive damage. Servitors cannot heal damage on their own but can be repaired using the Repair skill. A successful Repair check (DC 30) heals 1d10 points of damage to a Servitor, and each check represents 1 hour of work. A Servitor reduced to 0 hit points is immediately destroyed and cannot be repaired and cannot be raised from the dead.
Ether Gathering (Su): As a full round action that provokes attacks of opportunity, a Servitor can begin drawing in ambient positive and negative energy as well as any previously released Ether and processing it into usable Ether that can be redistributed to other Eliksni. The total process takes 1 round per gallon of Ether produced and a Servitor can hold a gallon of Ether per Hit Die.
Healing Pulse (Su): Once every 1d6 rounds as a Full Round action, a Servitor can release a cloud of gathered Ether, All Eliksni, and Eliksni aligned Constructs/vehicles are healed for 1d10+the Servitor's HD worth of hit points, 1d4+1/2 Servitor's HD worth of Ability damage and receive a +2 Morale bonus to Attack Rolls and Saves for 1d4 rounds. A healing pulse uses up all Ether a Servitor has gathered, and it can not perform a healing pulse with an empty tank.
Communications Array (Ex): Servitors gain Read/Write and Speak Eliksni for free, Servitors have Built -in Radio and LASER Transceivers for communicating with Fallen ships and other Servitors.
Spell-Like Abilities (Su): Once per Round a Servitor can cast the following spells At Will/Mage Armor, Magic Missile (1st) Invisibility (2nd) Lightning Bolt (3rd) Dimension Door, Ice Storm (4th) All spells are cast as a Mage of equal level to the Servitor's Hit Dice, saves are based on the Servitors Wisdom Score.
Skills (Ex): Servitors receive a number of skill points equal to their Wisdom Score. Servitors treat Craft (Pharmaceutical), Computer Use, Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Navigate, Repair, Spot, Survival, and Treat Injury as “Class Skills”
Bonus Feats (Ex): Servitors Receive Alertness, Gear Head, Guide, Medical Expert And Stealthy as Bonus Feats

Dreg
Unlike other classes of Fallen, Dregs possess only two arms to the usual four. Their lower standing within the Fallen heirarchy results in their loathing by other classes, which have the Dregs' second set of arms docked and prevented from developing until they have proven themselves worthy to become Vandals. Otherwise, they are similar to other Fallen classes, albeit seemingly smaller and sporting a large crest of hair.
Dregs usually carry Shock Daggers and Shock Pistols, occasionally using Shock Grenades, and rarely Shrapnel Launchers. They are undisciplined fighters, and will hiss and clatter, revealing their position. They seem to wear only light armor with little to no exo-atmospheric protection, and will melee at close ranges, though they aren't as strong as more elite Fallen variants.
Dregs can be seen riding Pikes.
Dregs are the lowest class of Fallen, but it appears that ranks are based on honor. Dregs have their arms removed as a sign of shame and disgrace, indicating that if they do not do well in battle, even a Captain can be downgraded to a mere Dreg. However, if the Dreg proves themselves worthy, they will be allowed to regrow their second pair of arms and work their way up through the ranks once more.
Most Dregs are cannon fodder and do not provide much in the way of resistance. However, what they lack in weaponry and skill, they make up for in numbers. A Guardian must take care to not be surrounded by too many, lest they be overwhelmed by sheer numbers. In addition, Dregs on Pikes should be considered a serious threat. The House of Dusk also fields spear wielding Dregs called Wretches

Vandal
Vandals are a six-limbed class of Fallen, having a higher ranking than Dregs, but lower than Captains. They bear heavier armor and more deadly weaponry than Dregs.
Vandals wield one of four types of weapons: Shock Rifles, mid-range weapons that fire bright blue homing projectiles; Wire Rifles, powerful sniper rifles that take time to charge; Shrapnel Launchers, which fire several projectiles at a time; or dual-wielded Shock Blades.
Stealth Vandals, variants of normal Vandals, can use a cloaking ability to render themselves nearly invisible.
When facing Vandals in combat, pay close attention to what weapons they carry; if they utilize Shock Rifles, treat them as most other trooper-level enemies, only being tougher in general, and remember to take cover from their homing projectiles. If they use Wire Rifles, then either close the distance to catch them off guard, or stay in cover and either wait for them to finish firing their weapons, or counter-sniping them before they get a chance to land a shot. If they use Shrapnel Launchers, keep a reasonable distance, for the launchers have poor accuracy and high spread. Finally, if they utilize Shock Blades, treat them as regular melee-oriented enemies and take them out from a distance.
With Stealth variants, the same tactics apply, but with extra caution being necessary, as their cloaking device makes tracking them more difficult, and they could sneak up on unwary players if given the chance. The House of Dusk calls Vandals Marauders.

Captain
Captains are the tactical coordinators and leaders of individual Fallen combat groups. Captains serve exclusively as infantry field commanders, personally leading their subordinates into direct combat with the enemy. They are the most vicious member of their crew and receive the largest ration of Ether and the best gear.
Fallen Captains are extremely tough combatants. They favor either Shrapnel Launchers or Shock Rifles. Alternatively, they can dual-wield a pair of Shock Blades. They possess personal short-range teleportation systems as well as powerful Arc shields.
Captains are extremely aggressive. They lead by example, charging fearlessly into the fray and rallying their fellow Fallen around them. Though they will back off if their shield breaks or if they take heavy fire, Captains are otherwise fearless and will charge into the battle even if the odds are against them.

An Archon or Archon Priest is the primary link between a House's Kell and its Prime Servitor.
Eliksni serving as high priests, Archons are revered among the Eliksni for their connections to the High Servitors. Baron
"They don't crawl out of their Skiffs too often."—Ghost
Barons are high-ranking Fallen who command one or more Skiffs or Ketches and their respective crews. They outrank Captains, who only lead a crew of Fallen, but are subservient to their House's Archon, Kell, and Prime Servitor. A House's Kell allows his Barons to take some of the largest shares of ether, allowing them to grow to several times the height of a lowly Dreg.
Barons are a variant of the standard Fallen Captain. While they lack any unique weapons or abilities, Barons possess stronger shields and can usually be found guarding an important objective or leading a Fallen assault in story missions and strikes.

Kell
A Kell is a leader of the Fallen. Fallen Houses tend to collapse and turn against each other if the Kell falls, but nobles of Houses can rise to power and replace former Kells.
The Kells serve as part of the triumvirate leadership of a Fallen House and are like Archons in that they are large and powerful, and that their loss weakens their house. If a Kell dies, the House is vulnerable to infighting amongst the Houses Barons and nobility.
Since Fallen do not take the loss of leaders lightly, the position of Kellship is highly important to a Fallen Houses stability and should the Kell fall, the Houses become subject to civil war between bitter rivals within the houses nobility. For example, during the Reef Wars the House of Wolves fell into a civil war after their previous Kell, Virixas was killed and three rival contenders emerged and fought each other to take his place. Only the most powerful contender or when all opposition is gone can someone assume control.
While it is possible that a House can still function without a Kell, as an Archon can assume command, their loss severely weakens a house and demoralizes its forces. For this reason, Kells are a prime target for enemy forces.

D20 Rules: Burst Radius 20ft, everything caught in the blast must make a DC 17 Fort save or be effected as if by a Slow Spell and suffer a -4 circumstance penalty to Drive, Pilot and spot checks and Ranged attack rolls. Planted with a Demolitions check, detonates when a hostile creature/vehicle passes within 10ft. The Effects of a Web Mine last for 1d6+2 rounds once detonated.
Scorch Cannon
D20 Rules: Scorch Cannons require the Exotic Firearms Proficiency (Rocket Launcher) Feat to operate without Penalty, Burst Radius 20ft (Ref 17 for half damage), can be fired in direct or remote detonation mode. In Remote detonation mode the shooter makes a Ranged touch attack at their highest Ranged Attack bonus -4. On a successful attack, the “Projectile” clings to the target but, does not detonate and can be detonated by the shooter at any time as a move action. As a Full Round Action, the shot can be removed with a successful Strength Check (or Escape artist if clinging to a living creature)equal to 5+the total attack roll. For each round the “Projectile” is left in place it builds “Charge” (+1d6 damage, +5ft Radius +1 Ref) if the shooter does not detonate the shot themselves, it will auto-detonate after 1d4+2 rounds (determined when the shot is fired)
The stats for a Scorch Cannon can also be used to represent a Shock Cannon (Damage type changes to Electric), a Null Cannon (Damage Type changes to Negative Energy, Increases magazine capacity to 30 [Int], Can not be reloaded, PDC+4), or the Molten Welder (PDC-2, can not use remote Detonation RoF changes to Semi)

All That You Wanted To Know About Laser Drilling
High speeds and high versatility are the main benefits of laser micromachining when it comes to drilling and making holes. Micro-drilling has two distinct laser processes as with cutting: fusion drilling with pulsed lasers and additional gas support - and vaporization-induced melt ejection, such as with q-switched solid-state lasers. By choosing the proper wavelength and power density of the laser beam, almost all solid materials such as metals, semiconductors, plastics, ceramics, diamonds, etc. can be laser-drilled.
Various Methods for Laser Drilling
For selective roughening of surfaces for gluing and coating processes, pulse drilling of holes at a depth of some microns is used. Single-pulse methods may be used for through holes in small workpiece thicknesses.
For thicker materials, percussion drilling is the first option and can be accomplished by applying several laser pulses with the appropriate depth. A combined drilling-cutting method or the multi-pass method is used for trepanning drilling for large diameters.
Laser drilling of silicon wafers by Laserod creates virtually no micro cracks or edge melting that could weaken the cell during further processing. Contacted solar cells on the rear side expand the solar-active surface and thereby cell output. Current through-plating technologies include the trepanning of some hundreds of holes with a diameter of up to 500 μm (MWT technology) or percussion drilling of many thousands of 65 μm (EWT technology) holes in each cell.
The EWT technology can achieve throughput levels of 4,000 holes/sec during this time-critical processing stage and the MWT system can achieve up to 100 holes/sec. Laserod Technologies offers some of the best lasers cutting services in California and also specializes in drilling holes small to large by the laser drilling methods of percussion and trepanning.
Laserod Technologies is one of the industry’s commanding experts in laser micromachining of polymers & other substrates for microscale applications. Our high pulse femtosecond and picosecond laser micromachining are uniquely suited for microscale-polymer machining for many applications. For all kinds of grooving, slotting, or scribing of thin materials, metals, and polymers, contact Laserod today at 1-888-991-9916 / 1-310-340-1343 for projects and inquiries!

Top 10 Discoveries Of The Decade
The 2010s saw huge developments across physics, science, and technology. Relive the best moments with our final ranking of the decade.
1. HIGGS BOSON
It took four years, thousands of people and the world’s biggest machine, but, in 2012, particle physicists at CERN announced the discovery of the Higgs boson. The particle helps explain why all other particles in the universe have mass, and its discovery completed the standard model of particle physics. It is also called “God Particle”
2. CRISPR
The full potential of genetic engineering was unlocked in 2012 with the cheap and easy CRISPR system for editing DNA. Its use has since exploded, unfortunately including the widely criticized creation of the first gene-edited babies in China in 2018.
3. GRAVITATIONAL WAVES
In 1916, Albert Einstein predicted that space, time and the fabric of the universe was disturbed by strange waves known as gravitational waves. Exactly a century later, the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory collaboration announced that it had finally spotted these waves emanating from a pair of merging black holes.
4. AlphaGo
The decade has been controlled by advances in artificial intelligence, but the height of machine achievement was AlphaGo. The software developed by DeepMind beat leading player Lee Sedol at the board game Go in a stunning 4-1 match in 2016.
5. LAYLA’S GENE THERAPY
In 2015, a one-year-old girl received a cancer treatment unlike any other. Doctors at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London gave baby Layla immune cells from a donor that they had genetically modified to destroy the cells causing her leukemia, saving her life.
6. DENISOVANS
Researchers announced the discovery of a human finger bone that is genetically distinct both from modern humans and Neanderthals in 2010, complicating our ancestral story. They named this new species the Denisovans, after Denisova cave in Siberia, Russia, where the bone was found. Behind discoveries in the cave included more remains of these strange people, including the 2018 announcement of a hybrid with a Neanderthal mother and a Denisovan father. Genetic analyses have also revealed that there are people today carrying some Denisovan DNA.
7. QUANTUM SUPREMACY
Efforts to develop quantum computers gradually ramped up this decade, culminating with Google’s announcement of quantum supremacy in 2019. The firm developed the first quantum computer capable of performing a calculation that no classical supercomputer on Earth can match.
8. PROXIMA CENTAURI B
At the start of the decade, we knew of about 450 planets beyond our solar system. Now, that number has bloomed to more than 4000. Most remarkable of all were the discovery of Proxima Centauri b in 2016, the closest known exoplanet, at a distance of 4.2 light-years from Earth.
9. FACE TRANSPLANTS
The first full transplant took place in 2010. In a 24-hour operation, a Spanish farmer who had accidentally shot himself had the remains of his face removed, leaving just his eyeballs and tongue. The rest was replaced by the entire face of a dead donor.
10. RICHARD III
A car park in Leicester, UK, hosted a scene notable of Shakespeare. In 2012, a team of geneticists and historians announced they had cut out the remains of Richard III, former king of England. The skeleton showed signs of spinal curvature and DNA evidence from his issues supported the find
