not making any promises at all but basically I used to sing a lot and I used to really love it but I lost confidence and sort of have been trying to get back into it now more recently (idk if ppl remember that little snippet of me singing mama who bore me that I posted a while back) and like…I might (if I do start covering songs more often and recording it) post some of my singing to my blog

for the record I am not a songwriter nothing I post will be original songs and it is just for fun and also I might not do it but i thought since I wanna get back into singing (I fell out of love with it for ages but I’m kind of re-finding my love for it but my voice is pretty rusty from neglect and also yk I’m not very confident in it as I haven’t done it properly for ages)

also like…I currently don’t have a singing teacher (ik I shld start lessons again but my prev singing teacher was rlly bad, really mean and was the reason I lost all my confidence so I’m not that keen to restart lessons quite yet. Also she gave me like rlly bad advice like she was a bad teacher and some of the stuff she made me do actively harmed my voice so) so constructive criticism is welcome and if anyone can tell me what tf my voice type is that would be appreciated (I’ve literally gotten it all, most ppl call me a mezzo and call it a day but I’ve been told I’m an alto b4 multiple times and one time someone said I was a soprano which I’m defo sure is not true bc I cannot sing high for the life of me so yeah but still)

Not that I’m doing any of this now lol but like at some point I might post singing this is like a warning (not a warning but like for want of a better word haha)

Anyway I better stop procrastinating my hw lol byeeee

I think people really just don't understand that voice typing is like. Really complicated. There's a good chance section you got chucked into in highschool choir is not your true voice type. Voice types are determined by more than just "how high/low you can sing". A person's true voice type can take years or even decades to fully settle, and if you're under 25 there's really no use getting too attached to a particular voice label because your voice is still developing and there's a good chance it'll change.

To make things more complicated, operatic fach typing works differently from choral voice typing which looks different from musical theatre voice and so on and so on.

The fact of the matter is, if you're just singing for fun on your own time, there's really no reason for you to need to know what your exact voice type is. Just sing what you like and what feels comfortable.

Honestly, I think of singing a lot like gender. A lot of people don't think about it too hard, and never have a reason to call themselves anything other than what they were told they were as a kid. And that's great if it works for you, but for many people it is limiting. There's this idea that everyone must fall into the same two or three categories, but there are actually dozens of options and subcategories. Your genetics play a large part, but so does your lived experience. Your understanding of what you are might change with age, and that's okay. Most importantly, you shouldn't rely on anyone else to tell you what you are.

If you are looking into voice teachers, and you meet someone who says "oh I can already tell you're a mezzo" or "I'd bet my life you'll turn out a tenor" in the first lesson, run the other direction. There's a good chance they'll try to shape your voice into the box they've picked out for you instead of helping you discover the sound that sounds and feels true to you.

Just like everyone's experience of gender is a bit different, everyone's voice is a bit different. The lines are blurry, and these categories are loose boxes meant for ease of communication and as general parameters, not as hard-and-fast rules.

I made a comment on an article on reddit about voice types over a year ago and now I just get people sending me DMs every few months with audio clips asking me to diagnose their voice type when I literally said in my comment that's not how it works 🙃

Jayce/Silco mirroring & other stuff Ive noticed

Starting with the big season 2 opener as pointed out by sage-nebula:

Zaun/Piltover figureheads rushing to save a loved one with their respective creations (Shimmer/Hextech); said creations leading to corruption and a loss of control. Silco frequently referred to as the Industrialist, leading Zaun into a new age, Jayce is posited as the Innovator, making Piltover more profitable than it's ever been. Misery following both choices.

Jayce's endgame look shares a lot of visual aspects with Silco's main coat, incl. the red gilded lapels and all those straps. His body is also being corrupted by hextech into unnatural scar tissue. Scars are more prominent in the wild rift model even if the colors are a bit off from the show itself (2nd pic)

And if you remember, these two actually had a pretty big scene in season 1, which echoes the above sentiments and has Jayce pushing a negotiation for Zaun's independence - at this point in time, it's the closest we got to Silco's dream being realized before the big meltdown:

This feels like a really interesting scene now in the context of how he was asked to sacrifice jinx. And now jayce's entire world outlook is shaped by constant sacrifices to avoid impending doom.

There are a few more twisted parallels to this too; silco killing vander, jayce killing viktor in the name of preserving their ideals - vander being mutated by singed, again singed mixing viktor's blood with vanderwick in the act 3 teaser.

Previously I had compared the ep6 jayvik kill circumstances with vander's blinding rage leading him to try and drown silco in the river but I don't think the parallels are so clear anymore. It's looking like the further we go into the story, the more jayce/viktor change into a blur that mixes vander/silco's motivations together - viktor's weird, corrupted peacekeeper front inside the cult and how he connects to vander's memories admiring the man that he was in life. Jayce feeling in the flesh that the only way forward demands firsthand pain and power and sacrifice, not placidity.

Interested to see where act3 viktor goes. Vander working with enforcers = Viktor working with noxus I guess 😭😭 well I just hope they beat eachother 1v1 style. and I hope he ends up following through with his pledge for Zaun's independence
