Kitchen/Dining Room – Because, as stated previously, the kitchen is now bigger! One of the big things I wanted to do in here was to add in the new appliances from Home Chef Hustle – the stand mixer, the waffle maker, and the pizza oven – and that required me to put in more counter space to make sure Alice still had a free counter to cook on. Which I did by making a line of island counters at the edge of where the “kitchen” floor meets the “dining room” floor. However, doing that meant that I couldn’t fit their original dining table in there anymore, and my searches for a smaller one didn’t really yield anything I liked. So I made the room slightly bigger (shrinking the mudroom and the hallway slightly) to accommodate the table. Worth it, though – I really like the new island counters with their appliances, and since they’re island counters, I was able to put some decorations around said appliances, like a kitchen scale (though not the HCH one, one of my CC ones from "Cottage Garden Stuff" by @plumbobteasociety), a cookbook on a stand, and Gino the MySim trophy (as he’s holding a pizza, I figured he should be near the pizza oven). I also upgraded the kitchen sink, added some hanging pots and pans from the ceiling, and replaced the coffee machine (which was worth $0 for some reason, but hell, I’m upgrading to more expensive stuff for everybody for a REASON, the gang is NOT hurting for money) with a tea maker, since that seemed more appropriate for the trio. (Or, at least, for Victor and Alice – Smiler is probably more of a coffee person, but as this version is a vampire and can’t drink any of it, moot point in this save!)
Back Patio – Simple change here – upgraded the chairs around the back table to slightly nicer, more comfortable ones. Which fortunately came in the same fun patterns as the previous set. :D Had to make sure they matched the umbrella!
Victor and Alice’s Bedroom – Going back upstairs, I replaced their old computer with the second Immersive Bend computer Smiler won at GeekCon and recolored it slightly, then got them a nicer officer chair to go with it. I originally also put one of the posters Victor found on a recent trip to San MyShuno up on the wall beside the desk...but then, while deciding if I really wanted to delete one of the medium-sized pictures of the gang posing in their swimwear on their trio honeymoon or not, I realized that “hey, I don’t have any pictures of that honeymoon in their room! Smiler has one – they should too!” So I stuck said picture up on the wall by their desk, moving the poster that had been there into Smiler’s room. :D So that worked out for everybody!
Both Upstairs Bathrooms – I upgraded the toilets to the really nice slate ones from Seasons in appropriate color patterns, then upgraded the sinks to better versions, changed out Victor and Alice’s shower for the nicest one, changed out Smiler’s bathtub for the nicest one, and upgraded the towel racks to the nicest ones. Basically, almost everything in both bathrooms is a lot nicer than it was. XD
Second Floor Hallway – The changes here were mostly about rearranging the collections on the walls – specifically, I put all the littler metals/minerals and the trio of elements Alice had collected on the hanging shelf that previously held the egg collection and put that by the door, then put all the bigger metal samples next to it on their shelf (recoloring both shelves to look similar and show off the samples to best effect). The other shelf that was previously holding the little metals/minerals went into the household inventory in case I need it later. I also put the other medium-sized picture of the trio on their honeymoon, along with one other picture of them posing outside their store, on the little notch outside Smiler’s room, as I thought they looked nice there over the pet bed. :)
Séance Room – I moved the knitting basket (and decorative yarn ball Kelly knocked out of it) and the big-ass rabbit plush they got in the mail (which I recolored to be fun polka dots) into the attic rec room, and ditched the rocking chair in the corner altogether, as the gang didn't really need it and I had no other place for it. I then moved one of the "Arcade Room Stuff" shelves (by Cepzid) containing Alice’s crystals out to fit in the display for all the various werewolf tablets and stuff (and put the one Victor fished up in its appropriate spot), then rearranged the crystals so they’d all fit into the remaining two shelves and I could delete the spare. And I finished by moving Alice’s meditation stool over to the opposite corner where the rocking chair was, as it looked like she was gonna bonk her head on the werewolf tablet shelves if she started levitating in her usual spot! XD Don't want that.
Rec Room – And finally, up in the attic, I put that one picture Victor did of Alice scratching herself on their honeymoon up by the microphone (again, couldn't bring myself to delete it); changed out the couch to another super-expensive, super-comfy one (this time blue with a gold frame to go with the rug); hung one of Alice’s spare paintings on the wall by the bubble blower (so there’s now three colorful paintings over there); and moved the recolored giant rabbit and the knitting basket over into the corner by Smiler’s frog collection. *nods* Good spot for everything that doesn't fit anywhere else!
And there you have it! Not a particularly HUGE remodel, except for maybe the kitchen, but the house is now a nicer place to live, and the decorations on the walls are perhaps a little more sensible. :p Next time, we see if the newly upgraded house helps everyone achieve their New Year's Resolutions!

Billiard Table Removals | specialisedremovalscairns.com.au
Unlike a dining table, billiard tables are much larger and heavier. Taking one apart to move it requires special tools and a handful of strong friends.
Although some Taskers can use heavy-duty furniture sliders to relocate a pool table, most will still disassemble the bulky components before loading them into their vehicle. The process is simple, but it takes honed practical experience to execute correctly.
Disassembly
Tumblr media
Billiard table removals are bulky and heavy, so they require extra care to remove and transport. It’s a good idea to disassemble as much of the table as possible before moving it. A scratch or chip in one slate can ruin the entire table, so it’s important to take your time and lift each piece carefully.
Start by removing the drop pockets. You’ll need to lie on the floor under the table and remove the bolts that hold them in place with a socket wrench. Next, you’ll need to remove the rail bolts. Each rail has three bolts, so you’ll need to remove 18 in total.
You’ll also need to remove the corner casting brackets and any screws that hold them in place. Once you’ve removed these items, you can lift the rail system off of the table and set it aside. Put all of the hardware in a plastic bag and label it.
Wrapping
Wrapping is the process of covering the sides of the table to protect it from spilled glue. This can be done with newspaper, which should overlap the edges by a few inches. It can also be done with a sheet of billiard cloth, which must be cut to size and glued. When doing this, follow the manufacturer’s instructions. The felt usually comes in one piece with cut-off strips for each railing. The ends of the featherstrip are then tapped into place, but not struck directly, or you may dent the rubber cushion.
Moving
Billiard tables require a lot of space to move and are often heavy. For these reasons, it’s best to hire professional movers for this type of work. The movers will disassemble the table and secure it for transport. They will also remove any debris and dispose of it. The movers will make sure the pool table is properly placed at its new location.
To start, the pool table’s pockets must be removed. They’re usually stapled in place, and a staple puller and flat head screwdriver are required to take them off. Next, the table’s rails must be taken off. This is a job that requires a power drill and socket wrench.
Once the rails are taken off, the pool table can be flipped over. The slate bed is typically the heaviest part of the table, so it’s important to protect it during this step.
Wrap the slate with a drop cloth or blanket to prevent damage during transportation.
Reassembling
When reassembling your pool table removals Brisbane , be sure you have all the parts you need. Refer to the owner’s manual for guidance if you need it. As you take apart the table, place each piece in a Ziploc bag with a label indicating the name of the part. This will make it easier to reassemble the table.
Reassemble the rails: The first step is to unscrew the bolts that hold the rail system to the table. Most tables have three rail bolts, and you will need a socket wrench to remove them. Some Valley Dynamo coin-operated tables have a metal trim over the rail bolts, which will require removal of the screws holding it in place to access the bolts underneath.
The final step is to staple the drop pockets back into place. This requires lying on the floor under the table, so it is important to wear eye protection. Also, you may want to consider a flathead screwdriver as opposed to a nail gun.

Extensive Information on Outdoor Dining and Patios at Restaurants
Wel e to the exciting world of patios and al fresco dining! This post was written specifically for you if you have a passion for food and appreciate eating outdoors. Envision yourself basking in the city's warm glow while you enjoy some tasty treats and people-watch. We've got you covered if you're looking for a Downtown Edmonton restaurant view, one that's kid-friendly, or one that has the hip vibes of Whyte Avenue.
In this comprehensive guide, you will learn everything there is to know about outdoor dining at restaurants, from patios to menus. We'll look at the many varieties of patios, evaluate their advantages and disadvantages, identify the best materials for constructing one, go into design considerations that will improve your time spent dining alfresco, and finish up with some care advice for keeping your patio in pristine condition.
Tumblr media
The Varieties of Restaurant Terraces
If you're looking for a unique dining experience with awe-inspiring vistas, go no farther than a rooftop patio. One might easily imagine the sophistication and elegance that would be added to a meal under the stars or a martini while overlooking a city's glittering skyline.
If you like to people-watch or just take in the bustling urban atmosphere, you'll love a patio right on the street. Diners can relax in the fresh air and take in the vibrant atmosphere of downtown Edmonton from these patio tables.
Garden patios are an ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. These tranquil locations provide a haven of peace where you may enjoy a meal amidst the splendor of nature.
Waterfront patios offer a picture-perfect setting for unwinding and having fun, as you can picture yourself sitting next to shimmering seas while soft breezes caress your face. These beautiful locations, which can be found anywhere from the river valley to the shores of Edmonton Restaurant many lakes, are the perfect places to relax and enjoy some of the city's world-renowned cuisine.
Outdoor Seating: Pros and Cons
There are benefits and drawbacks to offering outdoor dining for a restaurant, but it may be a big selling point for business. Let's examine the benefits and downsides of outdoor seating options in greater detail.
One of the best things about eating outside is taking in the sights and sounds of your wonderful surroundings. Visitors can take in some rays, experience the breeze, and even dine under the stars. Any meal is enhanced by the presence of nature in this setting.
In addition, when public health measures are called for, having seating outside allows for additional physical distance between people. Outdoor seating allows restaurants to safely serve more customers, whether because of a pandemic or just because interior facilities are overcrowded.
However, there are potential issues with outdoor sitting in inclement weather. If fewer people choose to dine al fresco on wet days, business could take a hit. Customers' comfort and pleasure may be impacted by weather extremes such as high heat or low cold.
Best Patio Construction Supplies for Restaurants
There are several aspects to think about while deciding on the appropriate materials for your restaurant's patio. Material strength and weather resistance are of essential importance, especially in an outdoor situation. Something that looks nice and fits in with the rest of your restaurant's decor is ideal.
Concrete is often used for patios at restaurants. In addition to being long-lasting and simple to maintain, it also looks sleek and contemporary. Texture and visual appeal can be added to concrete by staining or stamping.
Natural stone is also a wonderful option for patios at restaurants. Natural stone, such as flagstone, slate, or granite tiles, gives any outdoor area a sense of class and sophistication. Your patio will be one of a kind because each stone has its own distinctive coloration and pattern.
Composite decking and recovered wood are two examples of recycled materials that could be used as an eco-friendly substitute for traditional wood. These materials are not only more eco-friendly, but also long-lasting and adaptable.
Whatever you decide to use for your restaurant's patio, it's crucial that you get it installed correctly by trained experts. Your patio surface may be kept in good condition with routine cleaning and sealing.
Tips for Planning a Patio Setup
Creating an inviting and comfortable outside dining space for your restaurant is a fun and challenging project. You may wow your patrons with your attention to detail and hospitality by creating an inviting outdoor dining area.
The design of your outside area should be your first priority. Think about things like how much shade will be cast by nearby trees or buildings, any preexisting architecture, and any potential roadblocks. This will be useful in deciding where to put things like tables and chairs.
Consider both comfort and durability while shopping for patio furniture. Materials that can survive the extremes in Edmonton's weather should be chosen. Pick up seating that serves a dual use and looks good doing it, such sturdy benches decked out in decorative pillows or upholstered chairs.
Having adequate lighting is also important when planning a comfortable outdoor lounge area. Use a variety of lights, from string lights overhead to lanterns perched on tabletop surfaces, to produce a cozy mood after the sun goes down.
Bring some nature into your patio layout. If you need some privacy, several well-placed potted plants or hanging baskets will do the trick. To make the most of your outside area, try growing your plants vertically or using a trellis to support your climbers.
Tumblr media
Repairs and Upkeep for Outdoor Dining Areas in Restaurants
In order to keep your customers happy, it is crucial that your restaurant's patio is always in tip-top shape. You can extend the life of your outdoor seating area and improve the way your business is perceived by giving it regular TLC. To help you keep your restaurant patio in top shape, consider the following advice:
First and foremost, keep the patio clean by removing dirt and leaves on a regular basis. As soon as a spill or stain is noticed, wipe down the affected table, chair, or other piece of furniture. To keep the patio appearing new, you should occasionally pressure wash the surface.
Restore Broken Things Promptly: Keep an eye out for things like loose tiles or damaged surfaces on your patio and fix them as soon as possible. Fix these problems right away by fixing or replacing the broken parts to stop any future degradation.
To keep your patio set safe from the elements, consider purchasing pieces that are built to last. Protect your furniture from the elements and from dust by covering it when it's not in use.

The clean lines and neutral color schemes that characterize contemporary kitchen design provide the perfect backdrop for experimenting with accent colors and unique or unexpected details. For example, this kitchen in Melbourne features warm yellow-green cabinets that contrast beautifully with the wood countertops and island.
Open shelves are a great place to store cookbooks, dishes, and mugs. You can even display your heirloom ceramic collection for a stylish touch.
Enhance the Overall Aesthetic
Modern kitchen designs feature flat-front cabinetry, sleek fixtures, sophisticated color schemes, and elegant features. They offer a distinct look that will remain stylish over time.
Contemporary design often incorporates natural materials, simple color schemes, and monochromatic tones to create an elegant appearance. This style is the perfect option for homeowners who want to add a sophisticated and refined feel to their home.
Slab doors, a quartz waterfall countertop and backsplash, and a stainless-steel range hood all help this bright cooking space by Idea Space feel completely contemporary. Neutral colors and a white backdrop help the eye focus on the stunning accents and details throughout the room.
Decorative accents like this black sculpture and table lamp are what make this open-concept kitchen by Ban Architecture so memorable. The contrast with the light kitchen and dining spaces is striking and creates a truly elegant impression. Adding a beverage/wet bar nook also helps the kitchen become part of a functional and cohesive living area.
Create a Stylish Ambiance
Contemporary kitchens feature sleek, modern elements that create a stylish look that is timeless. While this design style has specific characteristics that distinguish it from other designs, you still have a lot of options to personalize your kitchen renovation and make it uniquely yours.
Slab-style cabinet doors are a staple of contemporary kitchens because they provide a smooth, uniform appearance. This design element makes it easy for other elements to stand out, like metal hardware or a patterned backsplash.
Beautiful wood materials often combine with slab-style cabinets to add a natural feel to the kitchen. You’ll also find a lot of geometric patterns in this style, which helps keep the kitchen fresh and trendy. You can also introduce texture by mixing in natural or manufactured materials, such as glass, concrete, slate, marble and stainless steel, with your custom cabinetry. These contrasting accents bring out the best in your kitchen’s contemporary aesthetic. They’re a great way to show off your personality without overshadowing the rest of the room.
Reflect Your Modern Lifestyle
In modern life, few rooms are as multifunctional as the kitchen. A contemporary design can help you juggle work and home life by providing a stylish and convenient place to prepare meals and entertain guests.
Like other modern styles, contemporary designs can incorporate natural and manufactured materials. Slab-style cabinet doors, for example, contribute to a clean appearance and allow other details—such as metallic hardware or a patterned backsplash—to shine. Open shelving can also offer a similar look and add visual interest to the room.
In this contemporary cooking space by Idea Space, a stainless steel range hood and open shelves deliver sleek appeal, while soapstone countertops and warm wood tones create a family-friendly vibe. The homeowners removed an awkward peninsula and reoriented the layout to better accommodate appliances, improve flow and deliver a more spacious working area. This remodel helped turn this once cramped kitchen into a multifunctional gathering spot for family and friends. The homeowners also used a dark gray paint to accentuate the ceiling, which helps brighten the entire room.
Create a Functional Space
Modern design is characterized by sleek, minimalistic features. It emphasizes man-made materials and lacks decorative elements like molding and trim. Instead, natural materials like stone, wood, and glass are often used to complement contemporary kitchen makeovers.
Flat-front cabinetry, sleek fixtures, and stone or wood accents all characterize this kitchen style. Engineered quartz, a popular countertop material that can mimic the appearance of various types of natural stones, is also a contemporary choice.
The modern concept of work zones — placing items used together in close proximity to one another for ease of access — is also an effective way to create a functional kitchen layout. Ensure your new kitchen is optimized for your lifestyle and family’s needs by carefully planning its layout. A professional designer can help you make the most of your kitchen’s dimensions and space.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are some of the cons of an open concept kitchen?
Privacy is the greatest concern. You can’t hide your mess from guests when you have an open-concept cooking area. Also, if you love to cook, the smells might bother people in other Often, there isn’t enough counter space or storage space to accommodate everything. An open kitchen is difficult to keep clean, especially if you don’t have an area for cooking and eating. Lastly, an open-concept kitchen may not be your best option if you don’t have much square footage.
What is the costliest part of a Kitchen Remodel?
Since the price of a kitchen will vary depending on the project, there’s no one right answer. Experts estimate that a high-end kitchen remodel will cost anywhere from $40,000 to $100,000. If you’re looking to remodel your kitchen, expect to pay a high price. If you don’t make any structural changes, often custom cabinetry will be the most expensive component of your kitchen remodeling project.
Your custom cabinets compromise 25-35% of the total cost. Flooring, countertops, and appliances are all high-ticket items. You might need to prioritize which parts of your kitchen you would like to replace if you have a limited budget. But, with careful planning, it is possible to get a luxurious kitchen without breaking the bank.
There are still ways to save money. It is possible to make cosmetic changes, rather than structural ones. One example is to refinish cabinets, or install new countertops, instead of replacing the entire kitchen. To save on labour costs, consider doing some of the work yourself if your project is larger.
No matter your budget, there are ways to make your kitchen remodel more affordable. By being strategic in your choices and planning, you can have the kitchen of your dreams while still saving money.
Are open-concept kitchens going out of style?
Because they are modern and easy to use, open-concept kitchens remain popular. For many reasons, homeowners are returning to traditional kitchen designs.
One reason is that an open-concept kitchen can be pretty noisy. Open-concept kitchens can be difficult to clean due to all the cooking fumes and dust that circulate throughout the house.
Families who like to cook together love open-plan kitchens. But they can also be a nightmare if you have kids that like to play in the kitchen and don’t always listen to their parents! Before you make a decision about an open-concept kitchen design, weigh all the pros and cons.
Do you place flooring under your kitchen appliances?
Flooring should be placed under all kitchen appliances. You can ensure that your countertop is at the correct height.

Are white kitchens out of style?
White kitchens are already popular among homeowners who want to create a modern look for their homes. Since 1980s designers started using white appliances and kitchen cabinets. Today, white kitchens are still one of the hottest trends in interior design.
Experts think the all-white kitchen trend may be over, and homeowners are looking for something more. Although white kitchens remain popular, more people are interested in brighter kitchens.
It’s not likely that a white kitchen will go out of fashion anytime soon if you’re thinking about installing it in your home. You should remember that trends can change, so you might consider a more timeless design for those who plan to stay in their home for many years.
What makes a kitchen backsplash timeless?
A subway tile backsplash is timeless. A full-height backsplash is recommended for kitchens. That would mean running the countertop as your backsplash up to the bottom of your upper cabinets. This creates the illusion of a larger kitchen.

Amazing Kitchen Remodel Ideas that Will Refresh Your House
How To
These are the 8 Essential Steps for Kitchen Remodeling Beginners:
A DFY project for Beginners should start with these steps:
Remodeling your kitchen is as easy as three steps. The first step is to decide if you want to completely renovate your kitchen or replace existing fixtures and appliances. Second, choose the type of kitchen that best suits you and your lifestyle. Third, you can decide whether to hire professionals for the job or DIY it.
Next, decide what type of kitchen you want. Do you want a traditional, open-plan kitchen with cabinets countertops and appliances or a modern one? You might prefer modern designs with minimal storage and clean lines. Are you interested in installing a large island or adding a breakfast bar? You will also need to hire an experienced contractor to assist you with the installation after you have selected a layout, finish and material.
The heart of any home is the kitchen, but homeowners often feel overwhelmed by how many decisions they need to make before beginning a project. There are many easy ways to start.
Decide if You Want to Renovate or Replace – The first step is to determine whether you want to complete a kitchen renovation or replace some of the appliances and fixtures. You’ll need to calculate the cost of demolition and new cabinets, countertops and flooring if you intend to renovate the space.
You Need to Calculate Your Budget. This includes everything including labor costs, supplies, and the budget.
Choose your Layout – Once you’ve decided how much you can afford, the next step will be to choose where you want to install your new kitchen. There are many layout options, including open-concept, peninsula, galley and corner. Each layout has its own pros and cons so it is important to choose the one that suits your needs.
Select your Materials – After you have chosen the layout for your kitchen, it is time to pick materials. This includes everything, including countertops and cabinets as well as flooring and lighting. There are many options so it is crucial to research and find the material that suits your needs.
Hire professionals – Once your materials have been selected, you will want to hire a professional who is experienced in kitchen construction. A professional contractor will ensure that everything goes smoothly from design through to installation. You won’t have to worry about any issues during the project.
Enjoy! You’ve reached the final phase of the kitchen remodel. Enjoy! You won’t mind spending hours in your new kitchen cooking delicious meals if you love it. If you are still not sure, take the time to test out your new kitchen. This will help you decide if the remodel was worthwhile.

Top Ideas to Make Your Rental Apartment a Wonderful Place
It's hard to decorate an apartment to fit your style when you don't own the property- but it is equally as difficult to live in surroundings that don't complement your style. A lot of people often make the mistake of thinking that they are renting, so they are not going to do anything to their rental space, because eventually they are going to move.
So what do you do if you yearn for a personal touch but have to compromise with landlord for limited budget and restrictions.
Utilizing Space with Elegance
Choosing multifunctional furniture helps the occupants utilize spaces with elegance. A computer armoire - with doors may have enough extra space to store books or blankets. Other multipurpose pieces could be a sofa that pulls out into a bed for overnight guests. Storage must always be creative. You can put a nice cloth around your bathroom sink to hide necessities, and hides the drying towels from the view.You can opt for buying a dining table that may perform double duty as home-office desk. If you don't' have enough space for a dining table in your Portland Apartments, you can create a banquette-type setting, with the table in front, and the chairs on the open side.
You can use attractive trunks as coffee tables or end tables and hide blankets or magazines inside. A sofa table leaves plenty of empty space beneath, which can also be filled with a host of belongings.
Dealing with Apartment for rent Portland Trappings
Perhaps the best thing about the most rental apartments today is that the slate is usually neutral. Virtually anything you lay on the top of this canvas will do wonders. If dumpster rental prices you can't paint a wall, you can use colorful rugs or throw pillows or even accent lamps with textured shades. Make sure that use a pad between your apartment carpeting and area rug so that the rug won't slide and the carpet won't undergo a color transfer.
You can also add side panels on a decorative rod to make a dramatic difference in a room reflecting your style and personality. Try and weave your color choices throughout the Portland Apartments with pillows and accessories. You can revive a kitchen with a colorful teapot on the stove, attractive dish towels, fresh countertop accessories or other decorative touches.
Candles
Nothing makes a house feel like home better than fragrance. Use scented candles or other fragrance-spreading systems to infuse your space with an aroma. Gather a bunch of various shapes, sizes and colors and arrange them on tables. Place them in front of mirrors to bounce light, filling the apartment with a nice warming effect. Show your creative surface by experimenting with groupings of tea lights, or bold candlesticks. The more fun you have with it, the more it will feel like home.
When it comes to putting your decorative ideas to the test, it only makes good sense to start with a step-by-step plan. To make the process seem a lot less stressful, start with simple home decorating ideas. These ideas can help you to personalize your new Portland Rental and make it feel like a home.

"Yeah."
It didn't surprise him that his agreeing to anything might earn some SURPRISE.
The sim wasn't lacking in free time, and much of that time he spent browsing the HoloNet anyway. Now he'd have something to browse for.
The queen looked assured; more than assured, like a weight was lifted off her. The ease in her face made his joints ease a fraction, too, with the feeling he had finally managed to do something RIGHT - even if it was only a small, simple thing.
Only for that moment of relaxation to immediately pass like a spooked bird at mention of Symphony's parents. Revenant's gaze grew colder again, but watched her, LISTENING anyway.
There would be no starting from scratch. No clean slate. He was not known for FORGIVING or FORGETTING.
But he would play civil again if it became... necessary. Revenant was LOATHE to be anywhere near the pair again, but he knew that would not sit well with Symphony. "Dinner?" The simulacrum echoed in a tone of dry scrutiny. He didn't think his presence would have a positive effect on the skinsuits' appetites, and he wasn't much interested in sitting down to watch them all eat, either.
He would meet them again if the queen INSISTED, but ideally not at a dining table. "You think they'll want to start from scratch?" The question was not mocking or rhetorical but genuine. He would find it hard to believe either of the pair might be willing to even see him again, let alone give any kind of discussion another shot. Something he was barely open to himself.
He didn't expect further conversation would get them anywhere.
Tumblr media
symphony looked to him at his quiet agreement, some surprise could be gleamed from her eyes.
❝ yeah...? ❞ she says, asking for reassurance that he wasn't just saying it to make her feel better in that moment. was he truly promising to give more of his input, and offer a piece of himself to their condo?
she seemed relieved and she looked around the bedroom with a different look in her eyes. like she was staring at a completely different room than the one that was there seconds ago, with brand new EYES. she seemed hopeful about what was to come, and what the next few years would like like. with him.
❝ i also want you to work things out with my parents, ❞ she braves another demand now that they were here speaking about her EXPECTATIONS of their relationship. ❝ you mean the world to me. but so do they... which is why i want you to reintroduce yourself and we can start from scratch. maybe... we can have dinner with them or something? i can't live with all this animosity. ❞

The Outlaw Killian Jones (and the legend Emma Swan)
Tumblr media
SUMMARY: Emma Swan is a schoolteacher, respectable and respected in the small town of Haven, Wyoming. She does her job and minds her business, but she has a secret. One that brings meaning to her dull life and excitement to her restless soul. One that she knows could end at any moment.
Killian Jones is a man with a powerful enemy and nothing to lose. He’s prepared to sacrifice every bit of that nothing for the sake of his revenge.
Or, at least, he was.

I am THRILLED to be here, kicking off the @cshistfic Historical Fics event! I’ve always loved reading romances set in the past and Westerns are a long-time favourite. Given how deeply entrenched the Western genre is in American culture, it’s funny to think about how a) most of it was made up for dime novels and, later, radio and television shows and movies, and b) the actual historical period that we call the Old West only lasted roughly thirty years—from the post-Civil War westward expansion under the Homestead Act to around the turn of the 20th century. This fic is set right around the end of that time—late 1890s to early 1900s—in the waning moments of the open range and the “lawless” frontier and the start of the modern era with its trains and barbed wire and cars and world wars. I’ve tried to capture a bit of that sense of transition in the story, mostly with the way it ends.
Huge thanks to @shireness-says for coming up with and running this event, and to @thisonesatellite for Just Being Her.

The Outlaw Killian Jones (and the legend Emma Swan):
The hour was late, afternoon edging into evening in the town of Haven, Wyoming. ‘Town’ as a designation flattered it, this tiny settlement tucked back against craggy and striated formations of rock and nestled amongst ragged brush, being, as it was, scarcely more than a handful of rough-hewn cabins, a church, a general store, a blacksmith and livery stable, a saloon with its attendant whorehouse, and a school.
The store and the smithy did the town’s most active business; unsurprisingly, seeing as they were the only examples of either within the radius of a good fifty miles. The residents—those who lived within the town’s scant limits—were certainly insufficient in their numbers to support either one, but the owners of those ranches that lay outside the town, they and their ranch hands, their wives, and their daughters, frequented both with pleasing regularity.
The general store doubled, as such establishments generally did, as a post office, in which capacity it served as the sole tenuous link between this stark western land and the fashionable cities of the east. The Sears and Roebuck catalogue and that of Montgomery Ward, both prominently displayed beside the till, were tattered and well-thumbed, and the monthly mail delivery never came without piles of brown-wrapped parcels containing the latest in fashion and technology from the wider world—hints at the wonders promised by the new century.
Very little of this prosperity touched the actual residents of Haven. The lives they lived were hard ones, scratched from unforgiving soil, but they were good folk, honest and hard-working. They lived simply and piously and for the most part happily. They tended their gardens and their livestock, read their Bibles, loved their children, and whenever possible sent those children to school.
The Haven school, a single room with two windows, one on either side, and a disproportionate bell-tower on the roof—both this tower and the bell it contained were gifts from a local rancher, who considered them a better use of his money than blackboards or books—was located well away from the town’s main street. It had no fireplace, only a tiny, smoky, potbellied stove, and in the warmer months no breeze blew through the unglazed windows. The pupils sat on simple benches and copied their lessons onto slates that sold at the general store for rather more than their parents could comfortably afford; lessons their teacher laid out for them on a thickly-whitewashed wall with a piece of charcoal, the dust of which stained her fingers and her clothing, and embedded itself beneath her nails so deeply there were times she felt she’d never be free of it.
This teacher’s name, the one she used, was Miss Emma Swan. A solitary and self-contained woman of about twenty-six, far too pretty for a schoolteacher most said, and if pressed these same would likely agree that teaching was not what folks might refer to as her calling. Though none could deny that she did her best and was kind to the children—a thing not always guaranteed from schoolmarms—she exuded such a restless air, an impatience with the tedium of her job and the pace of life in Haven which she did not trouble to conceal, that it was a subject of great curiosity amongst the residents why she continued to stay there.
“I have my reasons,” she would say, whenever anyone dared to broach the subject, “and those reasons are my own.” There it was and there it would remain as far as Emma was concerned, and as the townsfolk knew her to be a courteous woman but one who never minced her words when riled, they declined to press the issue.
By the time Miss Emma Swan had finished up in the schoolroom on this particular late afternoon, the floor swept and the board cleaned and lessons all prepared for the following day, the sun was already slipping behind the craggy rocks at her back and casting upon the town a peculiar sort of distended twilight—shrouded in shadows beneath a glaring blue sky. As she made her way the short distance between the schoolhouse and her own cabin—or rather, the schoolteacher’s cabin, perhaps the most compelling perk of her job—a brisk breeze ruffled the hem of her skirt and the few flyaway hairs that had escaped her tidy Gibson bun. The night would likely be another chilly one, and Emma wondered absently if she had enough wood left to leave the fire high for an extra hour or two or if she should resign herself now to another cold, dark evening spent alone.
The cabin where she lived, she and sixty years of schoolteachers before her, was small and rough like most in Haven and comprised only two rooms: a small bedroom to the rear and a larger space at the front used equally for sitting, cooking, and dining. In this front room was both a fireplace and stove, the latter surprisingly modern and another gift from a different rancher, to the previous teacher. Near this stove sat a small wooden table and two matching chairs; a soft and generous armchair had pride of place before the fire.
The bedroom was by far Emma’s preferred room. The walls in it were painted, in a pale and soothing blue, and on one of them a charming watercolour of forget-me-nots was hung. There was a white wardrobe with a mirrored door, a washstand and a vanity table, and a large bed with a sturdy iron frame. The curtains on the single window were of dotted swiss that Emma had sewn herself, and in the morning when she opened them she was greeted by the colours of the dawn.
Emma removed her buttoned boots the moment she was through the door; they pinched her toes and she disliked wearing them indoors. She replaced them with a well-worn pair of carpet slippers then headed for the bedroom, there to change out of her school clothes and into the more comfortable, loose wrap dress she preferred at home. When she entered the room she had already undone most of the buttons on her high-collared blouse and so made straight for the wardrobe, without so much as a glance at the bed.
The mirror on the wardrobe door as it swung open flashed the brief reflection of a face, just as Emma heard the sound of a chair leg scrape against the bare wood floor. She gasped and spun around, eyes wide and one hand pressed against her chest.
There could be no question that the man currently in occupation of her vanity chair, sprawled in it with an air as casual as it was deceptive, was one who had followed quite a different path of life than that afforded to the residents of Haven. His untidy hair and the thick scruff on his jaw might not be especially remarkable out in this still-wild corner of Wyoming, but the narrow cut of his coat and the embroidery on the waistcoat beneath it, the silver chain of his pocket-watch and the ostentatious knot of his tie marked him as a man who knew his way around a gambling table for both good or ill and could likely acquit himself equally well in both scenarios. A man who dealt with the hardships of life by shooting rather than working his way out of them—as the gleaming six-shooter currently pointed straight at Emma would most certainly attest.
Emma forced herself to breathe, slow and steady. Her heart was pounding. The man greeted her with a brusque nod, and cocked the hammer on his revolver.
“Don’t let me interrupt you, love,” he drawled, in an accent that suited this town less even than his clothes or his gun. “By all means, keep going.”
Emma swallowed hard and with trembling fingers undid the remainder of her buttons. Her blouse hung open to reveal the hooks of the corset underneath.
The man gave his gun a menacing wave. “All the way now, there’s a good lass.”
She shrugged off the blouse and let it fall to the floor.
“And the skirt.”
She unhooked her grey wool skirt and released it to pool around her ankles.
His voice rasped. “Take down your hair.”
Emma shivered.
Three pins and two combs held her hair in place. She removed them, dropped them into the pile of clothing at her feet; the bun tumbled down and over her shoulder.
“Shake your head.”
She did, vigorously. The bun unraveled further and strands of silky blonde fell across her face.
He swallowed audibly. “Now the rest.”
Emma hesitated, fingers hovering over the hooks on her corset. She wore nothing beneath it but a combination made of thin cotton lawn.
The man raised his gun and growled, “All of it.”
She tossed her head back, jutted her chin out high in defiance. Her belly churned with a dark thrill of anticipation as she unhooked the corset and flung it away. He chuckled, low and rough. Emma fumbled with the buttons on her combination as he uncocked his gun and set it aside, then undid the belt designed to hold it. His eyes locked with hers as he stood, pale blue and profoundly tired, eyes that had seen far too much.
She finished with the buttons but left the combination on, parted to reveal a thin strip of pale skin. Her heart thundered as he approached, her breaths short and heaving. He swaggered up and stopped in front of her, close enough that she could smell the dust and sweat on him, so close she had to tilt her head again to see his face. His hand slipped beneath her shift to curl around her waist, fingers rough on her soft skin.
“I—” Emma gasped as he pulled her closer, flush against him. His voice was a rumbling growl in her ear.
“You what, love?”
“I was expecting you yesterday!” she snapped, and then she kissed him.
-
“Gold is dead.”
Emma’s head shot up from where it had been resting on the bare and hairy chest of Killian Jones. The most notorious outlaw in three states, or so the Wanted posters would have folks believe. Train robber, bank robber, high-stakes gambler—but only the trains and banks and gambling dens controlled by one particular man. A man in whose side Killian Jones had been an exceptionally troublesome thorn for near to six years. A man whose wife Jones stood accused of murdering. A man who was, it seemed, now dead himself.
Emma stared down at his face, at the sharp definition of his cheekbones and lines of strain around his eyes. Such heavy burdens he’d been carrying for as long as she’d known him, but now, despite the exhaustion writ plain on his face he seemed lighter. Relieved, in some intangible way.
“He is?” she gasped.
“Aye.” Killian nodded, grimly satisfied. “Shot him right through the place where his heart should be. That’s why I was late.”
“Oh, Killian.” It wouldn’t do to feel happy about a murder, even that of a wicked man, but Emma found that she too was grimly satisfied. “You did it.”
“Aye, it’s done. And now I have a price on my head so high I’d turn myself in if I could, and special team of bounty hunters hired by Gold’s son to bring me to him, dead or alive.”
“Oh.” Her fingers flexed on his chest and his tightened where they curled around her hip. “What—what will you do?”
“Leave the country.” He spoke as though the answer were obvious, and Emma supposed it was. “I’ve no choice.”
“Will you go back to England?”
“No. There’s nothing left for me there.” He paused and his hand slid up her back to tangle absently in her hair. “I was thinking South America. Argentina.”
“Argentina?”
“Aye. Land’s selling down there for cheap and I’ve enough saved to buy myself a ranch. I’ve never tried ranching before so it’ll probably be an utter failure, but the idea’s crawled into my head and made itself a nest there, so I think that’s what I’ll do.”
Emma slipped from his arms and out of bed. She could feel his eyes on her as she took her house dress from the wardrobe and wrapped it around herself, as she tied it at her waist with jerky movements.
“You must be hungry,” she said.
“I could eat.”
“Stew?”
“Perfect.”
In the front room Emma piled wood on the embers in her stove and coaxed a fire to life beneath the pot of stew she’d left on the hob. She swept the ashes from the fireplace, arranged the logs and the kindling, then struck a flint to light it. She could hear Killian in the bedroom washing and dressing in the spare clothes she kept on hand for him, and by the time she sensed his presence behind her the larger logs were catching nicely and the hearty aroma of stew had begun to waft in from the stove.
“Shouldn’t be too long before it’s ready,” she told him without turning around. “There’s cornbread too. It’s a few days old, but—”
“Emma.”
“—it should still be good if you dunk it in the stew.”
“Emma, love.” Killian’s voice was soft, full of the tenderness he showed only to her. “Talk to me.”
“About what?”
It wasn’t as though she hadn’t known this day would come, this one or another very like it. She understood the dangers of the life he lived, out on the edges of society, pursued by an influential man with a terrible grudge, and she’d done all she could to make her peace with it. Killian could have died any number of times in the three years of their acquaintance; she had always been aware that every time she bid him farewell might be the last.
And now she knew for certain that it would be. Nothing had changed.
She heard him pull out one of the dining chairs and sit down in it, and though she kept her back to him she he knew he would be leaning his elbow on the table and running a hand over his face. She could picture the gesture in her mind’s eye with perfect clarity, so often had she seen him do it before, and her heart hurt because she knew he only did this when he was deeply troubled.
“Emma, you know—you know why I spent so long trying to kill Gold,” he said roughly.
“For Milah.” Her voice hardly broke on the name. “To avenge her.”
“Yes. That bastard hunted her like an animal, shot her right in front of me then framed me for the crime, and all because she couldn’t bear to spend another moment as his wife. He took her life rather than allow her to live it free from him, because he couldn’t countenance her finding happiness with another man. And I swore to her as she lay dying that I would make him pay for that.”
“Because you love her.”
“I did.” In the silence of the cabin, she could hear the rasp of his scruff against his palm. “I did.”
Emma had been watching the fire, now dancing merrily in the hearth, and it took a beat or two for his words to register. When they did her heart gave a shuddering thump and she spun round to gape at him. “Did?” she repeated.
Killian’s lip quirked and humour flared briefly in his eyes before they became solemn again, and heartrendingly soft. “It’s a funny thing, revenge,” he remarked. “It begins as a simple quest for justice but so easily descends into obsession—almost before a man knows what’s come over him, it’s all he’s got left to live for. That’s how it was for me, for years. Until…”
He trailed off and Emma found she was holding her breath. “Until?” she prompted.
He looked up at her. “Until I met you.”
She inhaled sharply as their eyes met, his own warm and such a brilliant blue, full of an emotion to which she didn’t dare give a name. “I kept after Gold because of my vow to Milah, yes, but also because I had to, because it was him or me. His life or mine. When that bullet pierced his chest and I saw him fall, I realised that it wasn’t about Milah for me anymore and it hadn’t been, not for a long time. I was fighting for my life, my right to have it and to live it in peace. That’s all I want, just peace and a simple life. And you.”
“Me?” gasped Emma, blankly and ungrammatically, as she attempted to grasp what he was saying.
Amusement coloured the tenderness on his face, alongside a hint of exasperation. “Don’t you know, Emma?” he asked with a shake of his head. “Why do you think I kept coming back here?”
She offered a weak smile and an abashed shrug. “My cornbread?” she ventured, and he laughed.
“I don’t know how to tell you this, darling, but your cornbread is dry. Try again.”
Emma elected to ignore this ungentlemanly slur on her culinary skills. “Well… I suppose the town is quite secluded, good for hiding out,” she observed.
“It is that. But that isn’t the reason, love.”
“Isn’t it?”
“You know it isn’t.” Killian stood and moved towards her, slowly as if she were a baby faun he was apt to startle, or possibly a sleeping mountain lion. “It’s you, Emma Swan,” he said softly. “You are what I will always come back for. You are the reason my soul is hale and unconsumed by hatred. Because it wasn’t revenge I was after, in the end. It was the future I wanted with you.”
Tears clogged Emma’s throat and pressed insistently behind her eyes. “Killian,” she choked, “I—”
“Shh.” He closed what small distance remained between them and folded her in an embrace to which she clung tightly, face pressed against his shoulder so the soft flannel of his shirt might absorb her tears. “Emma, I know I have next to nothing to offer you.” Killian stroked her hair soothingly as he spoke. “A tenuous existence in an unfamiliar country, backbreaking work that likely won’t pay off, a struggle for everything we have. I shouldn’t ask this of you. I should have the decency to walk away and let you find happiness with a better man than me.” She could hear tears in his voice now, and when she looked up she saw them glistening in his eyes. “But I won’t,” he continued gruffly. “I can’t, because I am a selfish bastard and I love you. I love you so much, Emma.” His voice broke. “So much. And if you could see your way clear to coming to Argentina with me, I would spend every day I have left on this earth working to make you happy.”
A rush of joy filled Emma Swan then, joy such as she had never known before. Her tears fell freely and unheeded as she tightened her hold on the man she loved and pressed her forehead to his own. In that stance they remained for some considerable time, until Emma became aware that the silence had drawn out far too long and she must speak. There were words he needed to hear from her, crucial words, and yet Miss Emma Swan, despite being quite a competent schoolteacher in all respects including her vocabulary, had always found words failed her when in the grip of strong emotion.
“Did I ever tell you I grew up on a ranch?” she blurted, then shook her head. That wasn’t what she’d wished to say.
Killian’s brow wrinkled. “You’ve mentioned it.”
“My daddy’s place out near Casper,” Emma pressed on. “A thousand acres of cattle, mostly, and some horses.”
“It sounds nice.”
“It was.” She snuffled and shifted until her head was resting on his shoulder and she felt cradled in his arms. This wasn’t the speech she’d planned but now she found herself determined to give it. “I was his only child, his only family after my mama died, and he reared me all my life to take over from him,” she continued. “But then when I was nineteen he got married again, and had a son. And suddenly ranching was ‘no job for a woman,’ or so he said, and I should look into teaching instead. Or better still get married and become some man’s pretty possession. Preferably the son of a neighbouring rancher, ‘for the future of our family’s land and legacy’.” She paused, remembering, and rubbed her cheek against his shirt. “I told him to go fuck himself.”
Killian’s laugh rumbled through the both of them. “That’s my tough lass,” he said, with a pride in his voice that warmed her, and made her desperate.
“But you do know what I’m saying, don’t you Killian?” she persisted. “You hear what I’m telling you?”
“What I hear is that in addition to being beautiful and brilliant and tough as old boots, you also know how to run a ranch. Which would be bloody useful I must admit, as I haven’t got the first faint clue where to start. Is that what you wanted me to understand?”
She nodded in relief. “That’s it.”
He brushed the hair back from her face with fingers gentle as the wing of a butterfly. “And is that... all you have to say?”
She felt caught in his eyes, and like to drown in them. “There may be one more thing.”
“Oh?”
“Yes. It’s that I—I—” Emma drew a steadying breath. “I love you too, Killian, and of course I’ll go to Argentina with you.” A smile broke across his face, that rare and brilliant smile of his that set her heart to soaring and broke the dam that held her words in check. “I’d go anywhere with you,” she declared, laughing as he squeezed her tight. “To the moon. To hell itself, and then back out again.”
“Let’s hope that won’t be necessary.”
He leaned down to her and she swayed up to him and their lips met in a kiss that sang of love and of hope and of a most solemn promise, if something of a dramatic one. He dipped her back and kissed her until she was dizzy and overcome with laughter, and then swung her up again and into a dance.
Emma put her head on his shoulder and leaned into him as they danced to music they alone could hear, all around the cabin with the aroma of stew in the air and hope for the future in their hearts.
-
The disappearance of Miss Emma Swan, schoolteacher and respected resident, shook the town of Haven, Wyoming as nothing had before. Even the escape and subsequent stampede down Main Street of Mr Murchison’s pigs had caused less consternation, since, as the residents all agreed, for that at least there was an explanation. A rusty gate hinge, investigation later revealed, had been the culprit behind the Spectacular Pig Hullabaloo of 1893, whereas Miss Swan had simply vanished, with no explanation given or obvious method of egress. She owned no horse and had not boarded the stage; no one matching her description had been observed at the train station in Casper or anywhere else that a woman alone on foot might reasonably have been expected to turn up. She had taken nothing with her save some clothes and a few books and left nothing behind but a brief letter hastily scrawled on a scrap of paper—her resignation from her position as schoolteacher effective immediately, and a recommendation for her replacement.
Haven residents were thoroughly baffled, and for many months afterwards the Fantastical Vanishing of Miss Emma Swan was the number one topic of conversation amongst them. Theories were dismantled nearly as quickly as they had been constructed, replaced by newer and ever more fanciful speculations, and each resident had his or her own pet notion as to how and why the trick was done. Rarely had they felt so stimulated or enjoyed themselves so thoroughly, however time, as it inevitably does, soon began quite noticeably to pass, and the town’s attention moved on to other happenings. For although new events in such a quiet place may never again be as deliciously sensational as the mystery of the vanished schoolmarm, they do possess the not insignificant advantage of being new.
And thus Emma Swan passed into Haven legend.
Some years later, on the eve of her wedding, Miss Mary Margaret Blanchard—soon to be Mrs David Nolan—sat at the very table where Miss Swan’s letter had been left and composed a letter of her own, to an old friend she’d first met at the State Normal School of Colorado. In her letter Miss Blanchard informed her friend of the imminent blessed day and thanked her for the recommendation that had not only brought Miss Blanchard many years of enjoyable work as schoolteacher to Haven’s children but also led, in that roundabout way life sometimes takes, to her current state of blissful happiness.
This letter travelled by mail coach from the Haven general store—where Miss Blanchard posted it to the care of a P.O. Box in San Francisco—to the main post office in Casper. From there it went via train to Cheyenne, where it was loaded onto the mail car of the Union Pacific Railway and thence made its journey to the west coast. In San Francisco its fortunes underwent a curious change, for it was redirected by a clerk there, in accordance with instructions, and placed back on the Union Pacific, headed this time for Denver. From Denver it voyaged onwards to Kansas City, then Chicago, and finally to New York, where it abandoned train travel forever in favour of a steam ship bound for Buenos Aires.
Upon arrival at port it was placed in the charge of a courier who carried it along with a scant handful of others over the rough roads of the Argentinian coast to Puerto Santa Cruz and then inland, where it finally, many months after its departure, came to rest at a tiny, dusty outpost in southern Patagonia. And it was from this inauspicious locale that the letter was collected, at long last, by its intended recipient—a woman none of the residents of Haven nor indeed the erstwhile Miss Blanchard herself would be likely to recognise as Emma Swan.
The clothes she wore were utilitarian in design and plain in colour, liberally coated in fine brown dust. Her pale hair hung loose and wavy down her back, and her face beneath her wide-brimmed hat was tanned and marked around the eyes with the fine lines characteristic of those who spend a good deal of time squinting into bright sunlight. But these were superficial changes. The woman who collected the well-travelled letter and rode with it back to her ranch, who sat at the table in her kitchen and read it with a wide smile and sincere pleasure at the news from her friend—this woman was happy, as Emma Swan had surely never been. It was a happiness born of deep contentment and the satisfaction of a life lived on one’s own terms. And it was the happiness of a woman who is loved.
Emma was reading the letter a fourth time when the sound of boots on the porch alerted her to Killian’s arrival; she looked up just as he came through the door with a smile on her lips the like of which neither Mrs Nolan nor any other in Haven could ever imagine her smiling.
Killian hung his hat on a hook and met its brilliance with a smile of his own. “What are you thinking about, love, that has you so radiant?” he inquired.
“A letter from Mary Margaret.” Emma indicated the sheet of paper in her hand. “She’s getting married. Is married now, I suppose.”
“To a fellow worthy of her, I hope?”
“A rancher, but not one of the arrogant ones,” Emma replied. “I think he is. Worthy of her, I mean. I think they’ll be happy.”
“That’s good news indeed.”
“It is.” She set the letter aside and went over to him, tucked her head beneath his chin as he enfolded her in his arms. “But that’s not why I’m radiant, as you say.”
“I say it only because it’s true, darling.”
“It’s because I’m happy,” said Emma softly. She nuzzled her nose against his neck; he smelled of sweat and dust and horses. “For Mary Margaret, of course, but also for me. It struck me just now, reading her letter, how happy I am. I’m so happy, Killian.”
His arms around her tightened and she felt him stroke her hair, and when he spoke his voice was gruff. “No regrets then, about abandoning everything you’ve ever known to live out your days on the lam with me?”
“Nope.” Emma pulled back just enough to look up at him, to caress his cheek with her fingertips and press her forehead to his. “No regrets at all.”
-
Historical Note: Emma in this fic is based loosely on a woman named Etta Place. Very little is known about her, but she is thought to have been romantically involved with Harry Longabaugh, a.k.a. the Sundance Kid, and to have accompanied him and Butch Cassidy to South America. However, verifiable details about her are scarce—even her real name is uncertain—and only one photograph of her remains. Some believe she may have been a prostitute but in Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid the writer chose to make her a teacher instead, and honestly I have always found that such a compelling tale. A “proper” schoolteacher having a secret affair with an outlaw, then running away with him to another continent? The romance, am I right?
And thus the inspiration for this story.

Tell me. What is it like to fly free?
The sky stretched above, unbroken and unending. Clouds doused in ink shivered under the low growl of thunder nearby. They seemed to bulge towards me, crumpling the air from my chest; I welcomed their weight. My toes curled along cool shingles as I outstretched my arms, eyes slipping shut. Light settled on my lids- the sun’s crucifying stare- and for once, I found myself smiling in the face of the endless expanse. It all seemed too vast, somehow, too massive.  As if at any moment the sky and the horizon would collide and sweep everything asunder, joining two existences into one- a clean slate.  And what a comforting thought that was to have at the edge of the world, feeling the birth of a storm woven in gossamer threads.
I was only one step away from finding the answer. From being able to see the world again in the monochrome ambiguity of innocence lost. Yet I stood there against those first few, frigid drops. This fear, this tremble in my soul, was a  paralyzing one. It’d been my constant companion. For so long it drenched my tongue in poison that I’d forgotten how to speak in truths, even to myself.  A breeze whipped past. Heralded by the soft hush of rain trailing along shingled roofs.  I curled into myself and released a wail so long and harsh that it scorched my throat. Such a wild thing. Not a soul heard it; swallowed whole by a crack of thunder.
And a new beginning was marked by my first and only truth.
***
Night blanketed the streets of Radz-at-han, casting a monochrome dark broken only by the balmy halo of street lamps. Few windows appeared lit from inside. Most of the city slumbered. Their story told in the colors of a bustling market, a treasure remembered in their bones and blood, lay quiet. Empty, even, save for the scuffle of sandals along the terracotta path. A shrouded figure skulked from one pool of shadows to the next, stealing glances over his shoulder at every interval.
Two things weighed on Mishhar’s mind as he slipped from his home in the Kama: his last conversation with Malfud and the gravity of the decision he was about to make. His grip tightened on the satchel at his hip, knuckles turned white. The memory played clear in his mind’s eye as the tapestry of stars above. They spoke over a dinner of spiced wine, zarda, and sheermal prepared that morning by Biyaada. A ritual they’d done each month, long before either found their footing in the world. Back when life was as simple as peddling ceramics for pennies. His younger counterpart smiled, all teeth and no eyes, over the lip of his glass as he retold the dealings of his latest investment. The East Aldenard Trading Company wanted to expand Malfud’s company into Eorzea, a storefront in each city-state. Joy gleamed in Malfud’s eyes as he reached across the table and gather Mishhar’s hands into his own. A promise, spoken with genuine warmth, of a place in this commercial empire was placed in callused palms.
“I will share my prosperity with you,” Malfud had said, “Save you from this destitution as you did me.  And together, we shall dine like kings, my friend.”
A smile drew across Mishhar’s lips, sweetening the wickedness that churned in his chest. The Sisters were cruel for first stripping him of his wealth and now his dignity. O’ so very cruel.
The elder man dipped his head low and pulled at the edges of his cowl. The road he traveled extended out onto a bridge connecting the Kama with Yuji. Rivulets of moonlight seeped through stone arches, twisting his shadow into something far larger than him. Its presence looming, judging, as it eddied him forward.  The darkness sewn to his feet knew what he sought to do. Rumors of a peddler, masked and mysterious, were on the tongues of strangers and spoken into the ears of travelers. No one knew their name nor where they came from. Their presence assumingly birthed from necessity and desperation for they appeared not long after the destruction of the Final Days. Whispers said that they appear on a street corner at a quarter past midnight. A beacon in the dark as they huddle beneath the lamp’s glow, Moogle-mask limned by hair illuminated in crimson. And rarely is the peddler without their devashuni- the black dog whose gaze follows strangers with unrelenting intrigue. Its eyes capable of piercing mortal flesh and seeing through to the deepest pits of the soul.  So long as there is a trade to be made, the peddler and their devashuni will listen; a gift to those with worthy offerings of a remedy for any affliction. Or, so Mishhar was led to believe.
A final stairwell crested onto the Yuji’s promenade, vacant and quiet now. Mishhar eased his steady pace into a hesitant shuffle, feeling the air shift with his own anticipation. Chills danced down his spine as he swallowed hard and tucked himself into the alley’s shadows. He drew in a quiet breath, satchel clutched close to his side, and squeezed his eyes shut. In the distance, the twelfth bell tolled. And he waited in the following quiet. Waited until he forgot he was waiting. Until nothing else existed aside from the dark pressing on his eyelids and the steady stream of his own breath. Then, finally, the soft scuff of nails against stone broke the monotonous silence. The shadows of his mind drew images of the devashuni in colors of malice and fear; eyes that peered into him and saw the wicked thorns encasing his chest. The satchel’s strap dug into his shoulder, reminding him of its weight. A choice, the pain said, only he could make. And as he met the black admissions of his own heart, he felt a tremor in his resolve. His grip on the satchel lightened. His breath released in a quivering stream. His feet remained rooted in place.
The click of nails eventually ceased and the alley drew quiet once again. Though the air grew no lighter and the night no brighter. The peddler, Mishhar knew, had made their claim on the street corner. All of their wares - promises of a new beginning- whispered sweet temptations in tune to the thrum of his chest. He licked the salt from his lips, the taste reminding him of that dinner. Malfud’s grin bobbed to the surface of his churning thoughts and suddenly his blood went cold. Cruel fate would have him kneel - No, grovel at the heel of his inferior copy. All that Malfud had claimed was earned on Mishhar’s back, yet no morsel of glory would be left on the table for him. Nothing but scraps left.
Venom coated his lips as they upturned in a disquiet smile. He hadn’t come this far, spent the last of his gil, to balk at the last second. Resolve coaxed his eyes open, pins and needles crawling ups legs, and forced him to step out from under the cover of night. Around the corner, he peered and saw the first glimpse of the peddler.
She was a spry thing, perched on a planter’s ledge with a knee curled to her chest and chin resting on top. Shorter by full fulm than him and half as broad. Armed with naught but a pair of stiletto daggers and bandolier laden with pouches and vials. The painted smile of her lacquered mask looked dull compared to the crown of fire she wore, and doubly so compared to the small, black bundle of fur she stroked. It was a dog, yes, but certainly not the hound Mishhar had conjured in his mind. The devashuni simply sprawled across the peddler’s lap, snoozing while its master surveyed the promenade with a faux, absent gaze. Mishhar’s brow dipped in a furrow, the sweet venom once coating his lips turned sour as it slowly dripped down into his stomach. He suddenly felt quite foolish.
Mishhar dared a step back and no sooner did he that the woman turned to meet his gaze, plucking him as easily from the shadows as one might a grape from the vine. An airy, smoke-tinged laugh drifted through the air.
“Hello,” she breathed, a smile laced in each note, “Friend.” She outstretched a hand and the dog in her lap stirred. Its eyes fluttered open, endlessly black and glistening like polished marble. The woman beckoned Mishhar closer. “Come into the light. I don’t wish to speak with shades.”
Mishhar released a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. Slowly, he slithered out from under the shadows and into the lamp’s light. His fingers drummed along his satchel’s strap, unsure if he could speak above a hoarse whisper. He licked chapped lips, casting the dog a wayward glance, before letting his eyes fall to the floor. Even then, he could feel the devashuni’s attention as its gaze caressed every crevice of his soul. “You are,” -his gaze drilled into the cobblestone- “The Alchemist, yes?”
The masked woman breathed a contemplative hum. Then expelled a curt chuff as she waved him off. “Is that what they call me here? Mmmmm’ suppose if it pleases you, then so it shall be. Yes. I am the Alchemist.”
“Then you’ve a remedy for me.” Mishhar sank to his knees as he began unbuckling his satchel. From its folds, he procured three jars. Two were stuffed with dried ochu vines and the third was accrual of pickled imp wings. He lined them before the Alchemist and turned to her with a pressed smile. “I’ve brought these for you. Only the finest purchased from Bazaar to trade with you.”
He searched the lacquered mask, with its faux eyes and cherry cheeks, for some semblance of interest. Intrigue. He’d even take amusement if it benefited him. But not a flicker of emotion crossed the Alchemist, save for the subtle cant of her head. She nudged the hound from her lap, the devashuni spilling to the ground with a languid yawn. It padded up to the jars, and Mishhar’s heart seized when it gave them a tentative sniff. The seconds between stretched for nearly a what felt like decades. Millennium. Eternity.
Then the hound wagged its tail.
Relief flooded over Mishhar as he expelled a breathless sigh. He shuffled closer, hands upturned to the Alchemist as he continued. “You will trade with me, won’t you?”
The Alchemist shifted on her perch, creating a symphony of chiming vials, and saddled an elbow on either knee. Her painted gaze turned in an exaggerated fashion between each jar before finally settling on him. “What is it,” she began, dropping her chin into an open palm, “That you want?”
His hands fell to his lap and his gaze to the side. “I want…” He spoke barely above a whisper now, stripping pieces of his soul and finding them to the shadows that were tethered to their feet. His stretched, contorted into a shape he no longer recognized. And yet somehow it appeared far smaller than hers- a feeble thing that didn’t know how to navigate the dark. Another quiet breath. Another moment of silence.
Malfud’s smile drifted in a passing breeze, memory of his laughter caught in a strand of wind and scattered like dust.
“I will share my prosperity with you.”
Mishhar rose to his feet and brought his gaze level with the Alchemist. Fear of the dark paled in comparison to the fear of humiliation. “I want,” he continued, ichor seeping into his voice, “A poison.”
His request broke through the night, like a pebble cast into a lake. The ripples stretched in notes of silence as it sank down.
Down. Down. Down.
Their shadows twisted with an unseen current and flooded his heart; surged through his veins; blanketed his skin. Her quiet regard became suffocating, her painted gaze asphyxiating. Mockery heard clear in the puckish grin of her moogle mask. The gravity of his decision finall laid in full upon his shoulders as the devashuni’s eyes bore into his soul; his desire to kill weighed a ton.
“Oh.” A single syllable breathed on an incredulous scoff. The Alchemist leaned back on her palms, head canted to one side. “You weren’t going to add anything to that, were you?” She hummed. A mixture of amusement and disappointment. “I’m afraid I cannot help you.”
“What?” Mishhar spat the word, lips pulled in an abhorrent snarl. “But you promised something for every affliction- for every cause! You are held on the same pedestal of legends, yet you deny me aid?”
The Alchemist hitched her chin back. Then shook her head with a half-hearted laugh that seared his cheeks. “I promised you nothing.” She outstretched her hand, beckoning her hound hither. The small, black dog retreated to sit quietly at its master’s side, tail still pendulating. “You’ve drawn your own conclusions; however, I misspoke. It is not that I can’t help, but that I won’t.”
All the air seemed to escape his lungs. His hands fell to his sides as he stared down at the jars lined at his feet. “I don’t understand… These are the finest goods I could purchase. The devashuni accepted them. Is this not a fair trade?”
“First off” - the Alchemist upheld a single finger which she twirled in the air then used to point at her companion- “This is a dog. The level of sentience you’ve assigned her is neither applicable nor relevant.” She flicked up a second digit to join the first. “Secondly, you’ve brought me absolute garbage. Common wares. Pantry items.” She slipped off her perch and came to stand before him. “As a man of Radz-at-han, surely you’re aware of Alchemy’s First Law.” She brought either hand level to her chest, palms upturned and teetering like the plates of a scale. “To obtain anything of worth, you must give something of equal value. Most adequately put by the Nald’thal’s devotees: As Above, So Below. Now, do you honestly believe that what you’re about to give is equal to what you wish to take?”
Mishhar deflated under the woman’s scrutiny, her words slipping under his ribs like little daggers. His eyes fell once more and watched as all his dreams drained away into the gutters. “There is nothing else,” he whispered, “I have left to trade.”
“Then there is nothing,”-her breath warm at his ear- “I have for you.”
He bristled at the touch. But when he whipped around, hand raised, she had retreated from under the lamp’s light and into the shadows. His eyes narrowed in a lethal point. “You are a cruel woman.”
“Think me unkind if you wish, but I am simply maintaining the balance of Equal Exchange.”  The Alchemist placed a finger to her mask’s lip. So small, she appeared, without the aid of her high perch. Dull and faded without the filter of a warm glow. A legend turned into a shade before his very eyes. Yet no less ominous as some unseen force stilled the anger from his twitching fingers; bade him to stay his wrathful hands. Perhaps it was the way she carried herself, unhurried. Unbothered. Or the daggers that gleamed in the wane light, shine met in equal measure by the vials chiming at her belt. Or perhaps it neither- perhaps it was the way the shadows embraced her form with a certain, intangible familiarity; as if she were the candle that beckoned the dark.
“You see…” The Alchemist stepped further back, turning from a shade to a silhouette, then to a shadow, then to nothing but a disembodied voice. “That is my first and only truth… I’ll humor you again, Mishhar, when you bring me something of worth.”
The Yuji’s promenade became vacant again save for a cloaked figure and his jars of hollow dreams.

24th December
Home was just the way you’d remembered it.
From the Goldchild Ivy covering the white colored walls and the stepping stones leading all the way to the main entrance to the way your parents kept nagging you about your “future” with Adrian Pucey.
“You still haven’t told me what kind of dress you’d like to wear to the ball.” Your mum reminded you after taking a small sip from her wine glass.
“I don’t know mother.” You sighed,stabbing repeatedly at the sautéed mushroom on your plate. “Can’t I wear something I already own? Like the blue one I wore last year.”
“Well, what is Adrian wearing? May I suggest some colour coordinating?”
“I really don’t know mother.” You coughed.
“Well, why don't you ask him?”
“I can't.” You mumbled dropping your fork on your plate. The loud clanging sound earned you an eyebrow raise from your otherwise quiet father.
“Why not?”
“We broke—we aren’t seeing each other anymore.” You said quietly before quickly standing up and dismissing yourself from the dining table before your parents could ask you a thousand questions.
As you walked away from the table and towards the balcony, you could still hear your parents calling after you while simultaneously speculating about just what you may have done to scare Adrian away.
You weren’t going to tell them about Draco because you weren’t even sure what to tell them.
I broke up with Adrian because I’m sleeping with Draco Malfoy.
Yes, the one that is getting engaged soon.
No we’re not together.
I may or may not have developed feelings for him.
Yes, it is inconvenient because I have no idea how he feels.
Did I mention he is getting engaged?
You tugged on the sleeves of your sweater to warm your hands up as you stared up at the surprisingly clear night sky splattered with only a few clouds and shimmering stars.
You took it upon yourself to start counting the stars to distract yourself from thinking about Draco again.
Unbeknownst to you, Draco was standing on the balcony of his room trying not to think of you too.
The only difference for him was that the sky was a little less cloudy where he lived and he wasn’t going to bother counting stars.
“Happy Christmas Draco.” You whispered to yourself,staring at the shiny emerald ring on your finger.
“Happy Christmas Y/n.” Draco mumbled into the night air as he fidgeted with your amethyst ring.

25th December
It was a surprisingly quiet Christmas Morning at the Y/l/n household.
Your parents were still fast asleep when you walked towards the kitchen to fix yourself a cup of coffee.
It was probably because your parents hadn’t quite processed your break up with Adrian and had spent their night discussing it.
Seeing it was Christmas, you decided to put a dash of white chocolate and whipped cream in your cup of caffeinated goodness in order to feel a bit more festive.
You were feeling anything but festive.
There was a kind of dread crushing your insides when you thought about the ball.
You’d have to watch him dance with her and kiss her lips at midnight.
Fuck, you’d have to congratulate him after he slipped a ring onto her perfectly manicured finger.
Just when you were about to take a sip of your drink, you heard a knock on your door.
You frowned and walked towards the door because it was way too early on in the morning for anyone to come over.
When you yanked the door open, you saw him of all people, standing on the other side of the door with his white blond hair messier than usual.
He was wearing one of his rare genuine smiles that showed his pearly whites making you feel wobbly in the knees.
“Draco—What are you doing here?”
“Happy Christmas to you too.” He said with the smile still fixed on his lips. “Tell me y/l/n is this how you greet all of your houseguests?”
“How rude of me.” You muttered to yourself still befuddled as you stepped back to let him in. “Come in, sit down. Cup of tea?”
“I’m actually in a bit of a hurry.” He said as he fidgeted with his blazer pocket. “Just came to drop off something—ugh hold this.”
He placed a pack of cigarettes in the palm of your hand before fumbling with his pocket again.
“Ahh. There we go.” He retrieved a lilac colored box from his pocket and brought it back to its normal size before handing it to you.
“What’s this?”
“What does it look like y/n?”
“But—But I haven't even gotten you anythi—”
Before you could finish your sentence, he leaned in, tenderly pressing lips against yours.
The softness of his lips made the heaviness you were feeling on your shoulders fade away as you faded into him—only him and the way he held you firmly around the waist as he suckled on your bottom lip.
“Thank you.”  You whispered burying your face into his chest, trying to inhale a scent of his cologne. “Thank you.”
When Draco left, you ran up to your room and opened the lilac box to find a blush coloured slip dress folded neatly with a note on top of it written in his neat handwriting.
~~~~
Dear Y/n
I really am sorry about what happened to your old silk dress but I just couldn’t help myself.
I hope you’ll understand.
I also hope I get to see you wear this one someday.
Yours,
D.L.M
26 December
The day after Christmas, the boys decided to do a little cleanup.
Quidditch and house memorabilia, novelty artefacts they no longer cared enough for and items of emotional value.
The boys wanted a fresh start.
A clean break.
A clean slate.
Theo and Blaise were done with their cleaning so they were now at the Manor helping Draco who was surprisingly not very convinced about the whole “fresh start” ordeal.
“Remember this?” Theo chuckled, clearing out all the books that covered Draco’s desk and using his wand to cast a quick spell that revealed carvings they’d made the summer before their second year.
“Oh?” Blaise gleefully raised his eyebrows walking towards Theo. “I’d forgotten about this.”
Draco rolled his eyes and followed Blaise and the three boys stood around the table reading out everything they’d managed to carve out.
There were some very unholy words, tally sticks and unfortunate looking doodles of Harry on the table.
“Theodore Nott was here.” Draco read out loud looking unimpressed.
“Read this one.” Theo chuckled pointing at a carving. “Daphne Greengrass + Blaise Zabini.”
“Hey! We were barely second years.” Blaise protested while his eyes kept scanning the table.
As Blaise’s vigilant eyes trailed to the farthest corner of the table, a wicked grin started to form across his cheeks making Draco’s face turn pale.
“Y/n Y/l/n.” Blaise read out loud smirking at Draco. “Well well Malfoy—From the second year?...Interesting.”
“It was always obvious even though he expressed himself in questionable ways.” Theo shrugged.
“What was obvious?” Draco quirked an eyebrow with a scowl on his face.
“The fact that you were and are absolutely enamoured with y/n.” Theo rolled his eyes. “It has always been obvious to everyone but you. Back me up here Zabini.”
Draco crossed his arms and looked at Blaise who just gave him an apologetic shrug. “I’m sorry but he’s right mate.”
“I am not enamoured with y/n.”
“If you say so.” Blaise shrugged.
“And what if I were?” Draco spat, clearly irked by the condescending look on Blaise’s face.
“If you are, then I only have one question for you.” Blaise said with carefully selected words.
“And the question is?”
Blaise went quiet for a brief second before looking at Draco, dead set in the eye.
“What is holding you back, Malfoy?”
27th December
Draco wondered what life decisions he’d taken to find himself seated at a murky little pub with Astoria reclining against his shoulders—sipping on Butterbeer.
Pansy, Theo and Blaise were taking shots next to him and you were awkwardly seated right across the table next to Adrian fucking Pucey.
What was he doing here anyway? Who even invited him?
Even though he’d overheard you telling Pansy that Adrian was there only because of your parents nagging you, seeing you seated together bothered him nonetheless.
Draco wasn’t even meaning to eavesdrop on your conversation with Adrian but he just couldn’t help but divert all his attention to your sweet voice and the way your lips moved.
You were telling Adrian about the sweet shop next door and Draco’s lips involuntarily twitched and curved upwards when he noticed just how excited you were about sweets.
It was like you softened him—made him vulnerable. And the whole feeling terrified him.
Between smoking his fifth cigarette, occasionally chatting with Astoria and looking at you from the corner of his eye, one rather simple thought encircled Draco’s mind.
Why didn’t he knock Pucey off his broom when he had the chance to?
28th December
Lightning crashed. Thunder clapped.
Fat drops of rain started to fall on the enormous glass window in Draco’s bedroom.
You placed your finger on the glass as you watched the infinite droplets race all the way to the bottom of the window.
The howling winds brought in the scent of wet grass and sent the dark curtains flying in all different directions.
You took in the smell of fresh rain and sighed sinking blissfully into his embrace.
Lucius and Narcissa were away, preparing for the upcoming ball and Draco had owled you asking to meet.
And so, both of you were now sitting on the windowsill in his room that was much larger than the one in the abandoned classroom.
In fact, it was so spacious that it served as his own personal reading nook—complete with a velvety throw blanket and some cushions.
His hands held open a book and you let yourself get comfortable between his long limbs, still counting raindrops on the window.
“What are you doing?” He asked looking towards you and away from the worn out pages of his book.
“I’m watching the raindrops race each other.” You said with your eyes still fixed on the glass. “infinite little droplets.”
“It's just rain.” He shrugged as his eyes went back to his book. “Quite mundane if you ask me.”
Sure rain was mundane.
But this rain felt different. It sent you into a state of melancholia.
You couldn’t dare to tell him but those infinite droplets resembled the amount of times you’d wanted to tell him that you loved him.
Even though you couldn’t find the courage to tell him, it was like the look in your eyes gave it all away.
It made his features soften as he slowly shifted and got up from the nook to fully open the window.
You shielded yourself as cold drops of rain started to hit your face. “What in the actual fuck?”
“Shut up and follow me.” He said as he climbed out of the window and onto the ledge.
“Are you mental?”
“Just do as I say.” He said helping you onto the ledge.
Both of you laughed hysterically as the rain seeped through your clothes as you sat on the ledge with your bare feet dangling in the air.
One wrong move and both of you could fall to our deaths. But there came an adrenaline rush with the risk of it all.
He pushed away the hair sticking to your face and brought your face close to his before pressing his rain soaked lips to yours.
Theo was right.
He was fucking enamoured.
~~~~~~⚜️~~~~~~~~
After coming back inside, you walked into his ensuite to fix your ruined hair and cast a quick drying charm to your clothes before heading home.
You had barely managed to pick at the tangles in your wet hair when an equally soaked Draco walked up behind you—clothes sticking to his toned body and hair sticking to his face.
“Draco. Sorry for hogging the mirror. I thought I’d be done sooner but these tangles are—hmmm.”
He wrapped his arms around your waist from behind you and pressed his cold lips against the base of your neck.
Even though your hair was entangled and unruly, you looked bewitching to him.
Especially the way the thin and drenched fabric of your seafoam colored dress draped your body—transparent and accentuating all your curves.
He just couldn’t help himself from unzipping your dress while he admired the sight of your dress slowly leaving your body in the mirror in front of you both.
“Draco?” You whispered as you watched his lips move their way from your neck to your shoulders. His hands gently gripping and massaging your breasts.
“Yes?” He whispered into your hair as he began nipping on your earlobe—his hands never leaving your breasts.
You wanted to tell him that you were in love with him but the words just refused to leave your lips.
“I—I missed you so much.” You said instead as you watched the corners of his mouth twitch.
He didn’t say a word back.
Hips lips were too occupied with sucking love bites against your skin.
He didn’t need to tell you that he missed you too. The deep reddish purple markings on your body said it all.
Draco intertwined his fingers around yours and placed your palms flat against the marble basin in front of you.
Your dainty fingers brought out the verdant tones of the emerald ring and Draco couldn’t help but admire his family heirloom on you.
He slowly moved his hands up your arms and let them brush against your bare back—trailing lower and lower till he was barely touching your soaking wet cunt.
“You like it when I touch you here?” He murmured pushing one of his fingers inside for a fleeting second.
“Hmmm.” You moaned gripping tightly onto the basin and pushing your hips backwards to get more.
Draco brought his hand to your arse and struck once causing you to hiss through your teeth.
“Words darling—use your words.”
“Yes….” You whimpered, opening your eyes to stare into the reflection again. There was a kind of unrestrained hunger in his eyes that only made you want him more.
“Good girl...so fucking perfect..so beautiful.”
He reached out and wrapped his left hand around your throat and brought your face close to him while the pad of his right thumb rubbed steady circles on your throbbing clit.
He loved that you were always so wet and ready for him.
“Draco..I want you inside me..Please..”
He could have spent hours on end just teasing you with his fingers and tongue if he could. There was just something about you that just made him want to take his time to worship you—to ruin you.
But time was not on his side and the reflection in front of him was making him increasingly impatient so he did not tease you any further. He simply unbuckled his trousers and pushed his cock where it belonged.
“Fuck...yes Draco..”
A whimper let your lips at the sudden push and your knuckles turned pale as you gripped tightly onto the marble basin.
“Look at you…” He murmured against your shoulder as he stared ahead into the mirror—his cock pounding in and out of you. “Taking my cock like such a good girl.”
He let go of your throat and used his hands to hold your hips firmly in place as he fucked you mercilessly.
Every time you two had fucked before this, Draco had constantly reminded himself to be a little gentle with you—but today, he wanted to wreck you.
He wanted you to scream his name in a bittersweet mix of pure pleasure and pain as he fucked you relentlessly.
“More...Draco...oh..fuck…yes.”
Beads of tears started to slip out of your eyes and you started to squirm—clenching him inside of you as your started to feel your orgasm approach.
“Don’t.” He growled digging his nails into the flesh at your hips. “Don’t fucking come just yet.”
You winced when he slipped himself out before carrying you back to his room where he sat down at the edge of the bed—positioning you on his lap with your legs on either side as he slipped back into you.
Draco let you adjust to the new position for a few seconds as you gripped his shoulders as you moved your hips, slowly riding his cock.
“My perfect little slut.” He sighed cupping your face in his hands as you continued to move against him.
After letting you ride him for a little longer, he gripped your hips and started to pound into you making your tits bounce up and down.
“Feels so good Draco—feels so fucking good. Oh god yes.”
With one hand on your arse and his mouth attached to your nipple Draco kept thrusting into you till the room was filled with the sound of your screams mixed with the sound of his skin slapping against yours and the sound rain splattering against the window glass.
“Fuck y/n...your cunt is so perfect, you take me so fucking good..god.”
“Harder…”
“So good when you clench me in like that... fuck y/n..I need to fucking fill you up…”
“Draco please..don’t fucking stop...oh..I’m so close..”
You always submitted to him so easily, he enjoyed the control he had over you.
But your sweet moans, the way your lips moved when you sighed his name was enough to make him weak for you.
You were completely oblivious to the power you held over him.
He loved you.
And he wanted to say the words out loud over and over again.
“I love—I love being inside you..I have missed you so much” He said instead.
“Draco I’m—I’m fucking cumming.” You whined as he continued to move his hips.
“Let go. Fucking cum y/n. Cum with me.”
You let your head fall against his shoulders and dug your nails into his biceps as you succumbed to your orgasm.
He soon followed, painting your walls with his release as he murmured sweet nothings into your skin.
You held each other close as you both recovered from your highs and and when he eventually fell asleep you whispered into his ear.
I’ll be thinking of you too Malfoy.

29th December
Once glimpse of the calendar and all the feelings you had shoved into a deep dark part of your mind trickled out in the form of tears.
Silent tears.
The kind of tears you cry when the silence of the night gets unbearable.
The kind where you suppress the sound of your wail and hopelessly try and mute any kind of sniffle by pressing your face hard into the pillow because you don’t want to wake anyone up.
Silent tears are the most painful of tears when mixed with the sound of the clock ticking.
For some bizarre reason, every second gets more prolonged than the other.
You had tried to hold it together for days. You tried to pretend like Draco’s engagement didn’t bother you.
But it did.
You turned your head on your very damp pillow and eyed the pack of smokes on your night stand. Draco had left when he came to drop off your present.
On an impulse, You stepped out of your bed as your trembling fingers reached for the 25 pack of expensive looking cigarettes.
The second you opened the box, the slight scent of nicotine wafted up your nose and you slowly placed a cigarette at the corner of your chapped and dry lips and lit it up.
Like always, you coughed and wheezed the second you inhaled.
You hated how it felt.
But you loved how close you suddenly felt to Draco.
In a twisted kind of way, It felt like you were submerged in his presence again.
Your lips tasted like they had been kissed by him again.
The more you inhaled the better it felt.
In a fucked up kind of way, The word felt right again.
And slowly, the night faded into morning as one cigarette turned into another.

30th December
Pansy had flooed to your hour the minute she received a letter last night in your drunken handwriting talking about how amazing cigarettes were and how pretty Astoria was.
With a mug filled to the brim with tea in between her hands, she rested her back against the armchair in your room, tilting her head to get a better look at you.
Your face was pressed sideways against the pillow and she could tell you’d been crying by the dried mascara stains on your cheeks.
A half smoked cigarette was pressed into the makeshift ashtray that you’d made out of your bedside table making Pansy wonder if she’d ever seen you this miserable.
Your duvet was barely covering your shoulders and just as Pansy was standing up to pull them up, your bedroom door creaked open.
“I just wanted to drop something off.” Draco  mumbled almost like he was talking to himself as he took a step into the room—hand in his blazer pocket.
Pansy didn't say a word as she watched Draco with her eyes narrowed. She observantly watched him pull out a tiny box from his pocket and mumble a spell to restore it to its original size.
“What are those?”
“Assorted sweets.” He said softly, with his gaze not leaving your sleeping form once. “She wouldn’t stop talking about exploding bonbons the other night at the pub.”
Pansy heaved out a sigh as she watched Draco place the box of sweets on your bedside table before reaching to gently push away your hair from your face.
“Don’t get me wrong Draco, but you really shouldn’t be here right now.”
His weary eyes flickered as he turned to look questioningly at Pansy—retreating his hand from your face.
“You are getting engaged tomorrow—look at her, look at the state she is in. She won’t say it out loud but It’s clearly killing her.”
As much as Draco hated agreeing with Pansy, she was right.
Even while asleep, you looked worn out and restless with your eyebrows scrunched up indicating tension.
He wasn’t even going to get himself started on the cigarettes and wine bottles on your night stand.
“Will you let her know that I came by?” He looked half expectantly at Pansy who gave him an apologetic smile in return. “Never mind I guess.”
As Draco reluctantly backed away from you,  Blaise’s words lingered in his mind.
What is holding you back Malfoy?
(To be continued...)

Part 6: Final Chapter Preview:
The Malfoy Manor was being decorated and every little detail of the decor screamed nothing but aristocratic, pristine, perfect.
It was like everything was just a futile attempt to conceal the dullness, loneliness and the fucked up pure blood traditions hiding deep within the manor walls.
Much like his so-called arrangement with Astoria that seemed so perfect on paper.
Pure blood families, rich family history, old money.
What could go wrong right?..

This Edwardian house in north London has different and unique decor in every room, combining all sorts of decor styles.
Tumblr media
With its mix of Edwardian, industrial and mid-century features, the dining room sums up the owner's vision for the house.
Tumblr media
The snug corner has a mid-century vibe, with a pair of 1950s Danish cocktail chairs in front of the huge slate fireplace. Instead of a drinks cabinet, bottles are arranged on an occasional table - very Mad Men.
Tumblr media
The design is based on the style of a Manhattan loft and all things industrial. The kitchen is the hub of the house, with sight lines into the dining room and living room, so the family always feel connected. The units are deliberately simple, to let the artwork and crockery do the talking.
Tumblr media
The master suite is in the loft conversion, a boutique hotel-inspired bedroom mixing urban and romantic, teaming brick walls with embroidered linen.
Tumblr media
A favorite photograph was blown up and abstracted to create the ultimate picture wall in this modern kids' bedroom.
Tumblr media
The fireplace was one of the few original features left in the house when the owners moved in. The mirror and its cast-iron surround were moved from the ground-floor study. Black decorative feature wallpaper has been used all around the room to give it a gothic vibe.
Tumblr media
Crystal light fittings provide a twist on the concrete theme in the bathroom. The stool adds a splash of wake-me-up pink.
Tumblr media
In the playroom, the floor is a patchwork album covers, printed on to vinyl and covered in resin. The 1970s vibe is enhanced with orange walls and hippie-luxe cushions.
