tbh i really appreciate that you insist on analyzing things people shrug off as harmless. i think the userbase on tumblr in general is way too comfortable repeating stuff without unpacking the logic & implications of what they're saying and it often leads to ideologically bizarre or harmful places. like it's easy to go 'it's not that deep' but i think we should be trying a little harder to be thoughtful about what we say. and it really can be that deep, like how people adopted 'degenerate' bc it was in enough funnily worded posts that people didn't realize they were using a dogwhistle.

I'd make a post detailing how to tell if someone is crypto but I can't really explain how exactly I can tell sometimes because at this point I know almost automatically. I guess there are just certain times you should check like if it's a meme originating from 4chan (greentext, wojak, tradwives and the like) or if their url has a word like "punished", "trad", "fascism" "patriot" "oppressor" "patriarch" or anything in that vein. If you do see someone like this on your dash, I'd say just click on their account and look at who they're reblogging from, this reveals more covert cryptos who you might have not realized were fascist if they were on your dash.

Sometimes it's still difficult to tell when someone is a fascist.

For example earlier today this post was on my dash:

Okay its weird but it's clearly mocking this guy right? Well yes but then you look in the notes:

The words "depravity" and "degenerate" are commonly used by fascists to describe the unwanted peoples. This is a big red flag with the word fascist written all over it. So I scrolled up to see what they were referencing with this comment and (cw unsanitary):

The "girl" they used to show how theres "degenerates" in all demographics is a black woman. I decided to check on their blog whether they themselves are black and I got no conclusive answers except for them talking about Malcom Xs conversion to Islam being funny. I checked who they followed and sure enough:

When I reblogged with a comment about them being a crypto they said:

This kind of nonchalant shrugging off of the accusation of being a fascist is common.

Example two would be the blog molags-balls, which seems like a normal elder scrolls blog but if you scroll down a little you'll find this:

A very weird and purposeful misdirection of the question of "do you pal around with fascists". Personally this isn't the answer I'd put but hey what do I know about being accused of being a fascist.

Scroll down further and:

Okay this isn't much evidence. It's an elder scrolls blog, of course they'll have speeches from the game. Also the rest of the blog denigrates people who chose the stormcloaks so what am I getting with this. Look at who they reblogged from and look at the op. They're both known cryptos.

Okay but maybe we should give them the benefit of the doubt:

Yeah. There are other examples of cryptos they've reblogged from but I don't think I'll need that.

They have a very specific sense of humor that relies on edge, innuendo and shock value and once you recognize them it's incredibly easy to tell who is a fascist and who isn't just based on a url and a pfp.

What I'm trying to say is that crypto fascists will purposefully obfuscate their beliefs making it difficult to accurately identify them, especially if you've had no prior interactions with them. But its up to you to make sure you don't boost their voices even if they've posted a meme or something you agree with. Especially the latter because when you're thinking of capitalists, they're probably thinking of Jews.

If someone informs you that someone you have reblogged is a fascist block them, go onto their account and look block anyone else they interact with directly. The more you do that the easier it gets to ID them.
