JOHN SILVER YOUNG SAILOR: Yeah. You too?
Item the first: Where do I begin with John Silver? Actually, let's start from a different angle. John Silver begins Here, no sooner and no later than he sees The Opportunity (though he does not know the Narrative has chosen him just yet, nor that aligning his fiscal goals with those of Captain Flint will irrevocably alter the course of his life) and he takes it.
My first impression of John Silver is that he was a cheeky bastard an impish scoundrel who was possessed of the bad habit of biting off more than he could chew and just enough strategic/ballsy charm to walk away relatively unscathed. I was drawn in by the fact that he was equipped with a dashing smile, at least before, you know, everything that followed, but you could tell behind his big blue eyes that he was playing some sort of 4D Chess.
I would like to credit the writers, showrunners, and actor man Luke Arnold for unfolding this character like a map with only half a key. He intrigues me, he infuriates me, I hate him forever, I love and forgive him implicitly, I cringe when he makes me think of myself. That rare sense of unbalance and discomfort brought on by a story is something I will treasure and hope to even come close to brushing against again. There is a John Silver imprint on my heart, thanks to this story, my own personal Black Spot.

feeling restless and yucky...
might unwisely spend the night deep cleaning my room even though I have to go to work in a couple hours
#ahh the early sunday shift. a blessing (get to go home before the evening rush) and a curse (have to be there for the 12pm-1pm rush)#and need to deep clean concessions bar 3 if i'm unlucky and get sent back there#and deal with the broken nacho cheese dispenser and the broken popcorn heater lmao#might need to get used to having to scoop scalding hot cheese out of an old salsa jar and serving cold popcorn to angry customers#kinda hate how the boss is too much of a cheapskate to properly fix all the small issues until they turn into big issues#at least all my coworkers and i get to come up with creative solutions to keep the place running until nothing works anymore

Something about mac and cheese I just can’t
#i made it today bc its meant to be a quick meal to whip up#and no matter how much spice i put in it just tastes so bland#i probably needed to add in more cheese or something#even the work canteen mac&cheese they serve is just not it 2 sachets of pepper cannot save it 😩#imagine i used heaps of chilli oil chilli flakes and chilli paste and it still didnt touch i even added mustard

thinking of that post that's like being a picky eater as a kid just means i get to experience the joy of trying so many foods as an adult. i have some new foods planned for this week after i move including stir fried sweet and sour veggies + rice and omurice (really simple fried rice... may add veggies to it later if i like it but one step at a time). will let you guys know how it goes
#shay speaks#i want to try and eat healthier and its going to start somewhere on god#i tried doing this last year but living with someone else really hindered my mental ability to do that#mostly bc. she took up so much space in our fridge#having my fridge and freezer 2 myself is going to help a lot i hope. and no other people to walk in on me cooking#it's going to be a slow process but i want to have a better relationship with food#my other goal is to have at least one higher effort meal a week. if not more but at least one#higher effort than making like maccy cheese or pizza rolls yeah?#also i was in the middle of typing my tags when my parents called me up for dinner and then served smth that makes my arfid#flare up. which is meatballs. they marinated the meatballs in the sauce which does wonders for my brain thinking smth is inedible#meat is still a hard no most of the time for me so uhm. not fun.#too many awful memories around that in particular. same with alfredo lmao i've briefly mentioned why i hate alfredo here before#horrible horrible sauce do not put me in the same room as it please and thankies#anyway.

going full circle and making an au where actually it's Maria Elena Lucia Panadero-Cheng, holder of the ladybug miraculous under the title Bruja Rouge. adrien idk but he's finally gonna go by Grimalquin and he was raised by his grandma for most of his life so he says absolute dork shit like "Great Scott!" or whatever the french equivalent is. this is the only post this is all you're getting
#she my french mexican chinese shawty call that cheese beans and rice.#maria is picked on at school mostly because she's a delinquent and her french isn't super great.#she speaks mostly in spanish as BR. grim the english nerd boy understands and is technically able to respond in spanish?#but eventually their dynamic is just each responds in their own language#sabine cheng and león panadero run an okay bakery and are trying very hard to put maria through private school.#this puts a lot of stress on them which then puts a lot of stress on maria#therefore she tends to lash out violently as Bruja Rouge. despite this she's still quite clever she just tends to let her emotions get the#better of her. grim is by contrast a little more reserved with violence at the cost of being a bit of a coward. they both get their#respective miraculous because they each serve as lessons for their holders. BR needs to work on pacifist solutions whereas grim needs to#learn the importance of being assertive#as for civ drama they mostly don't interact. different classes and whatnot. maybe adrien ends up being her tutor?#(we should give him a new name too maybe. literally why do i ever buy a burger. We Have Burgers At Home. They Are Nicer
#post inspired by how i just cooked a burger it was delicious#this isn't like deeply held i understand completely why one would want less-home-accessible burger experiences#(eg very crispy fried onions [annoying to make imo]‚ exotic toppings one would not think of‚ important gimmicks for a gimmick occasion)#and / or be hungry for burger and unable to make own burger for a variety of physical and circumstantial reasons#but me personally i hate novelty and difference and usually can stand up long enough for slicing and cast iron pan usage#so. a personal note for me. just cook burger it is nice. stop being disappointed by local burgers that are simply cooked less well#box opener#frankly a lot of this is that if i make fancy burger at home i don't then need to enter a negotiation re: whether i can refuse cheese#i like cheese but i like to be able to opt in to it. also frankly i prefer my usual garlic aioli-and-avocado substitution more#it serves a cheese purpose (fats‚ enhanced savories) so i consider it a reasonable exchange#but places with fancy burger are soooo offended by my disinterest in their four slices of swiss.

My theory for the reason why Americans seem so grossed out at the idea of eating beans on toast is bc they think it's served cold??? Is that why??
#the toast is warm with butter and the baked beans are heated up!! they have a kind of sweet taste#its common to add an egg (or sometimes sausage or bacon) bc its breakfast food#some people melt cheese on top but i dont like that personally sksjskjs#i guess its not very flattering visually but beans on toast actually tastes good!! I promise its seriously not bad lmao#the concept of beans being eaten at breakfast isnt exclusively a british thing either?? lots of cultures do that#it just always surprises me the way I see people here react to it#like thats how I act when my family ask of I want chicken feet/pig feet soup (which are common here and my grandpa loves them)#but that's somethign genuinely freaky and gross looking 😭 not just harmless beans that are served with some bread?!? dkskdjskjs#((lo siento if theres any fans of sopa de patitas here.... Not to downplay cost of living and inflation etc etc but it’s very funny how many times I see people complain about expensive groceries and their grocery bill and then it’s almost always that they’re buying like, 6 packs of meats lmao
#see like maybe if you didn’t do that your bill would be cheaper#I never get more than one serving of meat a week and it’s a very small quantity#often I simply don’t buy meat for weeks!#there’s a Reddit thread going on and a lot of people are in my boat where it’s like yeah groceries aren’t that bad#then the other half are like please help I’m starving *buys 20 lbs of meat per week*#my grocery bills have gone up but we feed two on ~$150/week with the only expensive products being pasture raised eggs and imported cheese
