A Video Game with a Twist: "Heart Beat Clue" is an existing game that blends detective puzzles with romantic storylines. Imagine putting on your detective hat and wielding a magnifying glass, but with a dash of potential love interests thrown into the mix. Each solved puzzle could unlock not just clues in the case, but also a deeper connection with a captivating character.

A Metaphorical Challenge: Perhaps "Puzzle Heartbeat" is a more metaphorical concept. Life itself can feel like a puzzle, with challenges and mysteries waiting to be unraveled. The steady rhythm of a heartbeat could represent our constant drive and determination to keep piecing things together, even when faced with obstacles.

Choosing a gift for an autistic adult can be tricky, but thoughtful. Here are some ideas to consider, focusing on items that cater to sensory needs or provide a relaxing and stimulating experience:
Sensory Items: Fidget toys, noise-canceling headphones, weighted blankets , or squishy stress balls can all be helpful for self-regulation.
Organizational Tools: Timers, planners, and visual schedule charts can be beneficial for managing time and daily routines.

My Everyday Sensory Kit
I like to think I'm a pretty incognito neurodivergent person, though I'm definitely not trying to hide it.
I just think my neurodivergence isn't everything I bring to the table — but only when I take care of my neurodivergence first.
That's the Catch-22:
My neurodivergence is everything until it's taken care of.
So here's how I take care of my sensory sensitivities so that neurodivergence doesn't become my entire life.
1. Noise-Cancelling Headphones (Headgear)
At a whopping $250, my Sony WHMX4s are absolute life-savers.
I use my headgear turned off most of the time.
Yes, they double as headphones, but their primary use is keeping my sensory world calm even when the world around me is noisy and chaotic.
2. Water Bottle
My water bottle doubles as sensory gear, because it gives me something to hold onto.
Having a water bottle is acceptable is every circumstance, so my hands always have something to do.
When you’re fidgety like me, something to hold onto can be incredibly grounding.
3. My Meds!
I hope this one is obvious, but here’s what my meds help with:
mood swings
negativity bias
suicidal ideation
sleep regularity
setting routines
focus
They help a lot, to say the least.
4. Weed
I placed weed in a different category to make a point, but it technically falls under “my meds” for me, because it helps with everything I mentioned in meds.
5. Stim Toys
I keep toys on-hand pretty much 24/7.
Some would call it childish, but those people don’t understand the purpose:
Stim toys help me stop biting my nails, bouncing my legs, and looking anywhere but the person speaking.
6. Nintendo Switch
Speaking of toys, let’s talk about real toys: My Nintendo Switch.
My Switch is in my sensory kit because I use it to escape and calm down in stressful environments.
Even in the midst of a busy airport, if I have my headphones + Minecraft, I can be peaceful.
7. Hoodies
Hoodies keep my arms warm and shape boxy.
It’s hard to identify if I’m a girl or a boy in a large hoodie—which is exactly what I like.
They’re part of my sensory kit because hoods actually help my hearing sensitivity, and they double as great sun shields.
I'd love to know what's in your sensory kit!

beginner guide to autistic stim toys
I too was once scouring the internet just after realizing I was autistic, but turning up what was mainly the blogs of "autism moms". Not exactly was I was looking for since they're weird and actually autistic adults and teens are not their target audience. So if you are finding yourself unsure where to look or what's actually good, I hope you enjoy this list!
funkyfidgetsshop.co.uk - this site has a lot of very reasonably priced and high quality fidgets and sweets. my favorites are their moon & stars stress ball, Needoh nice cube, and textured sensory ring. items listed include ones that are silent & classroom/workplace friendly, and ones that make noise.
tanglecreations.com - a well loved classic, the variety of tangles is very good! I am obsessed with the textured series, hairy tangle, and infinity pearl aqua. visually stunning options as well as lots of different textures and feels for different sensory needs. pretty silent and safe for school or work as well.
harkla.co - the sensory sock they make is widely well reviewed, as well as coming in child and adult sizes. a great addition to a reading nook, as you can cocoon yourself inside if so desired.
us.loopearplugs.com - I definitely recommend these and love the pair I own. with a wide range of noise cancelling/muting ranges and colors to pick from, these are great. I have the quiet loops and appreciate the soft silicone material, this makes it so I can sleep with them in.

Elephant Habitats: Where in the World Can You Find Elephants?
Elephants, the gentle giants, reign supreme as the largest land mammals on Earth. Three majestic species roam the planet: the African bush elephant, the African forest elephant, and the Asian elephant.
Tumblr media
Buy now:19.95$
Easily recognized by their long, muscular trunks, these incredible noses are a fusion of their upper lip and nose. Trunks are incredibly versatile, used for everything from grabbing food and watering themselves to trumpeting greetings and communicating with other elephants. Their large, floppy ears act like giant radiators, helping them stay cool in hot climates.

African elephants are the bigger of the bunch, with the bush elephant holding the title of the largest land animal. Both African species boast impressive tusks, which are elongated teeth used for digging, fighting, and stripping bark from trees. Asian elephants, however, display sexual dimorphism, meaning only males typically grow tusks.

Highly intelligent and social creatures, elephants live in close-knit family groups led by wise matriarchs. They communicate through a complex system of rumbles, trumpets, and infrasonic calls undetectable to human ears. These fascinating animals are an important part of their ecosystems, helping disperse seeds and maintain healthy habitats. Sadly, elephant populations face threats from habitat loss and poaching, making conservation efforts crucial.

Finding the perfect gift for an autistic adult can be personal, but focusing on their senses can be a great starting point. Sensory fidget toys like spinners or putty offer a calming outlet, while noise-cancelling headphones provide a quiet escape. For relaxation, consider a weighted blanket or a fidget pen that provides subtle stimulation. Subscription boxes catering to niche hobbies or adult coloring books tap into their interests. Remember, the most important aspect is showing you care and understand their unique needs.

When he picked up my new laptop, Mr. C bought himself a discounted very small LED-riffic drone that's mostly suited for flying indoors.
Tumblr media
Which is of course fine, and I had to mess with it a little myself.
Anyway, he has been enjoying the hell out of trying to fly the thing around in here--but the high-pitched whirring noise it puts out is NOT SO FUN. Feeling like a crank, but I haven't wanted to say anything.

Today I went to a city fun fair near where I live. The typical kind of fair stuff, booths for companies giving out pens and slap bracelets to remind you to buy their insurance packages, vendors selling bootleg block game swords and baja hoodies, food trucks everywhere, barely bolted down amusement rides, etc. Typical Americana type stuff that's usually pretty fun to go to but can be extremely overwhelming if you're autistic/have specific sensory needs.
This one was really cool and had a sensory recovery room that was dark, air conditioned, and quiet. Signs at the front stated the expectations, for you to whisper and be kind. They had ear plugs and ear protectors you could use. There were fidget toys, a bubble tower, a rice dig box, and a small swing. And it was of course for all ages and needs to help regulate your mind and body at this crowded fair. I broke off from my group for 15 minutes to go sit in there and play with a sand toy while they watched a martial arts group perform. 10/10 experience, every venue should have a sensory recovery room
