#twister valley#art#art:mallory#nuclearocs#nuclearart#i already posted some traditional sketches of her earlier but i can finally draw digitally again so!! have a mallory :]#she's the main character of my original story twister valley which is the first installment of the fractured anthology#she used to hunt tornadoes with her friends while getting her meteorology degree and then continued for a while after school too#but they all had to go their separate ways to get actual jobs because. well. the chasing didn't really give them much money#and now years later the gang is getting back together for one last gig: travel to wethersfield in virginia to investigate freak weather#there's so many tornadoes there all of a sudden and that's very unusual... and then!!#it turns out that there's something entirely else going on!!!! oh no!!!!!!

the four main issues with designing the Ideal School Curriculum are:
1) there are so many subjects and so much knowledge in this world, how do we narrow down the most important things for everyone to know in a way that won't result in kids in school for 12 hours a day
2) there will always be kids who don't wanna be there, how can we still try to engage them meaningfully at least some of the time
3) there will always be bad teachers, how do we mitigate this fact
4) people learn in different ways, neurodivergencies and disabilities exist, how do we work with this in a pragmatic way wrt making sure kids are taught in a way that's right for them and not overstretching our teaching staff, which will always be a finite resource
#the subjects one is the one that gets me the most i think#theres a reason i chose a very interdisciplinary field to go into lol#i definitely think a semester of meteorology should be required in high school tho#i think it's good to know how weather and climate work

Reminiscing about r/place because it’s coming back apparently (?) and remembering that there were two kinds of people on the subreddit
1. Streamers, discord servers, and subreddits staking a claim and running it like a drill sergeant to keep it in place
2. People like my friend who found one random group’s place, changed the color of one pixel slightly off, and then camping there to make sure it stayed permanently through to the final screenshot
#this is the same friend who says so much buckwild shit that I have a note on my phone full of them#including his disbelief in meteorology and hatred for meteorologists in general#just because he knew one annoying kid in high school who went on to work at a weather station#r/place#reddit

Good luck for your exams!
THANK YOU! Feeling good about one. Neutral about the other. SHIT about the third but we’ll see how it goes :)
#i’d be feeling good about the earth science test but there’s a bunch of meteorology that i DONT know. so neutral#middle school science is a piece of cake. general science is broad but also specific enough to be terrible

all disabled people should be allowed to go to medical school for free if they want to learn about their conditions
#i want to learn about my health so i can reliably tell whats wrong and why#because right now everything is question marks#also i really really really really want to be able to go to school to learn about sciency stuff#and medical stuff falls into that category of sciency things I'm super interested in#i mean that category also includes astrophysics and quantum physics and chemistry and botany and biochemistry and geology and meteorology#yknow. there's a lot.

y'know what i literally thought i was a corpse but still living and i was recommended by a lovely doctor of psychology to go to a hospital to get the treatment i need but i fucking didn't bc i though a degree in environmental protection is more important than my health - i'm literally repeating the pattern i suffered so much for
#when my therapist told me i'm repeating that pattern i would spontaneously combust#but literally my whole childhood i was told 'if you don't have a fever you have got to school' and i still fucking did it in uni??#like i felt my organs decay i could smell my flesh rotting and i still though meteorology was more important? bitcg what is wrong with you#and then i told my brother about us fucking doing the same thing our parents told us he just said 'fuck i didn't realize that bc it costed#me less than it costed you'#biting and howling AND maiming#depression and stuff#anyways i've been drinking feel free to ignore me if my posts don't make sense#i'll probably delete this in the morning

Eelektrik always keeps her spells near to her, yet hidden. She casts lightning spells in the underwater metropolis because she knows that even a small amount of electricity can travel across water with great force.

typhoons are scary but common that evacuation and relief efforts part of our culture now. but man. they're also so beautiful. like, just as a weather phenomenon. very deadly but so, so beautiful...
#mine musings#saying this as mawar/betty gets closer to us#the first time i had this thought was when haiyan/yolanda happened and it's so conflicting#because i still remember how it razed towns#but as a meteorological thing? as a force of nature? i'm just in awe that something like that can exist#actually no i think the first time i had this thought was during xangsane/milenyo in 2006#i was in grade school!! i don't know why i still remember that#we had a donation drive in school where everyone would donate food and clothes and the school would take care of#distributing them to those affected by the storm#and yet i can't help but just be awestruck how typhoons occur

Met with the advisor for the minor I wanted to add and everything is FUCKED
#rehks rants#I fumbled that so bad#I shouldnt have lied to him about wanting to go to grad school for meteorology but I wanted to seem committee to smth#I'm not committed to anything#I dont like anything#he wants me to take physics as my 'directed elective'#and I switched majors just to not take physics#I'll gladly switch minors to do so too#the only thing I like rn is my math major and my film classes#and I was already gonna double minor with film but now I might just turn my bs into a ba and just do film#idk I feel like I wanna cry and I have a test in 30#...for one of the classes that was gonna be on that minor#FUCK

Something I love (sarcasm) having to remind myself is that I am smart. That despite everything I heard from teachers and peers growing up, I am smart. I don't have to be a genius, I don't have to be spectacular or brilliant- but I am fucking smart. and fucking hell it took so, so, so long for me to be able to understand just because my interests and abilities didn't, and still don't, line up with that of family members doesn't make me stupid.
#venting#no sleep#genuinely thought i was stupid as a lid because i have trouble spelling and pronouncing words & i am directionally challenged#like struggling w/ left and right and north/south/east/west etcetc#turned out that i'm dyslexic and number-dyslexic word that i don't know how to spell#wheeeeeeeeeeeee#(how tf did my schools not make me get tested very very very obvious post-sorta-diagnosis)#(the doctors told us I'm dyslexic but really didn't want to put it down ADHD got brought up but not addressed)#(they were actually doing a cognitive test to see how i was doing post-severe concussion and kinda refused to discuss anything else#including scheduling seperate stuff for the dyslexia (bc my mom didn't hear the adhd stuff bc the docs were talking “out of hearing range”#aka: behind a half closed door they had me sitting just outside lf))#and#gokng back to the thought i was stupid thing#my tastes in literature and interests are predominantly different from the rest of family#enough that to smol-me i was *too* different#so by not being interested in engineering or coding or meteorology or patterning or math or physics that got equated to being stupid#which#weong conclusion to get to but i was like 10 and it's been like 12 years q'd i'm still struggling lmfao#ramble

My professor showed us the ugliest isotherm map I have seen in a long time, and we’re supposed to use it for homework. I am not enthused.
#isotherm#meteorology#maps#weather#weather map#it was like he took a picture of his tv screen and scribbled on it#can’t even read half the numbers#but sure#it’ll be suuuuuper helpful for homework#school#college

To provide students the basics of weather in a fun, very interactive assembly. Think Nickeloden meets weather. Our presenters are meteorologists and we bring a fun, high energy atmosphere for the power hour of weather.
