and for the museum of the day i was Considerably more excited for: the National Museum of Modern Art!! splitting this into two parts for my sanity, main exhibit first

one thing that impressed me about this museum was the overall presentation of descriptions used. a lot of art museums will present some information and context to the piece, but the national museum specifically tried to encourage people to read the text (metaphorically) and engage in Thoughts. it was pretty neat to look at a piece then see what specific emphasize the museum curator wanted to put on something.

For example, Nakanishi Natsuyuki’s piece Compact Object was described like this:

Fish bones, a rubber ball, a clock, seashells, hair.. this egg-shaped object seems to be packed with the contents of a garbage can. Or is it a time capsule, capturing a fleeting moment during a certain era? Nakanishi staged performances by bringing these clusters of everyday objects into public spaces, such as in the streets and on trains. His intent seems to have been to carry a microcosm of the world in his hands rather than to produce a sculpture that sits on a pedestal.

which, imo, does a decent job at explaining the intent but also promoting people to think about the intent going into objects on a level a bit further than just “here’s what this means.” this was pretty consistent in the museum’s presentation, which I really appreciated.

The other thing I thought was incredibly funny was this fucking. diary entry they had on display. keep in mind i was dead on my feet in this museum writing down notes to post to my tumblr blog and then read kishida ryusei’s diary from 1923:

Woke up around 10 o clock with a slight headache. Not surprising since i was up unttl three last night talking with Senge [Motomaro] and others, and that's why I overslept. Took a bath after breakfast. Got on the 1:49 pm train to Tokyo and then a taxi to Shintomiza. The play was about to start. My seat was excellent. Sendai Hagi is a famous kabuki play, but it was the first time I had actually seen it. The scenes performed were: the Bamboo Room, Cooking Rice, Under the Floor, The Showdown, The Scar. All of these were fascinating. I's not often these days that l immerse myself as deeply in kabuki as I did this time.

me, two museums in, feeling a profound kinship with this artist from a century ago writing a diary entry about his hang over but going to tokyo for three plays. as i write notes in my phone about art. incredible.

For actual pieces though there were quite a few:

Kayama Mayazo, Waves in Spring and Autumn thought this piece had a lot of really neat spins on some classic imagery (mountains, seasonal trees, waves/water). I especially liked the details of the waves breaking— the waves themselves were this even, looping/fluid lines but the edges were crashing with noisy scribbles

Komaki Gentaro, Bricks and a Squirrel: this is one of those “can’t explain myself”. the bricks had a very weird wood grain pattern, paired with a squirrel in this frightening black orb, completely surrounded. sometimes ur just a squirrel in an orb

Nomiyama Gyoji, The Withered: i like organic things in weird, inorganic messes. this was like, a rat king but with branches, and it was confusing to look at. enjoyed it a lot.

Kodama Yasue, ambient light - sakura: this is exactly what it says on the tin but for what it is it works really well. it’s just the impression of looking up at Sakura blossoms through sunlight, and man is it effective at it. I think in person this works better just for the size and detail of it- it captures the feeling of looking up through foliage very well and was very pretty to boot

Takanashi Yutaka, Hongo: Mansada Parlor, 6-17-1 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku from Machi imo all of takanashi’s photos had this very lived in quality to them, like a photo taken of a place that feels deeply familiar and like home. The collection overall has these deep colors and contrasts with mundane settings and a large amount of visual objects/interest, so it made the feel of the piece really nice (photos here)

overall: really solid, probably doesn’t beat the contemporary art museum but that’s just because my taste is what it is. for an art museum though, i really appreciated the approach and curation

Mayl continues to watch the next two matches, while stunning, they weren't as impressive as Jessalina's battle with Addy, and after some time it's her turn. Meanwhile as Mayl hits the stage, Jessalina catches up to Addy.

Addy: what do you want.

Jessalina: to talk is all, i enjoyed our bout, but it seemed like you weren't. Are you alright?

Addy bites down on her bottom lip, internally debating something

Meanwhile Mayl takes the stage and her opponent looks just as nervous as her.

Mc: Mayl Sakura vs Hiroki, let the battle begin!

Hiroki: let's go, Dragonair!

A shiny Dragonair appears out of the capsuled ball with an ice effect.

Mayl: Roll, let's dance!

Roll the mismagius appears from a blue flames effect.

Jessalina & Addy look up to the monitor to see Mayl's Mismagius appear.

Jessalina: an interesting choice for a coordinator, not many use Ghost types

Addy huffs.

Lan (from the audiance): you got this, Mayl!

??? Since you rooted for Jessalina, i'll root for your girlfriend too.

Lan *blushing* (whispering): she's not my girlfriend

Hiroki: Dragonair, Water Pulse!

Dragonair opens with a ring of water surging towards Roll.

Mayl: Mystical Fire!

Roll generates a stream of flames that mix with the water and the clash causes a dazzling sparkle effect, Hiroki loses some points.

Mayl: keep that up, Roll, Magical Leaf!

Hiroki: Dragonair, counter with Ice Beam.

Roll generates multi colored leaves, and sends them to the Dragonair, but the serpentine dragon fires a stream of ice that freezes a few leaves, but the rest hit, this causes both coordinators to lose some points.

???: This seems like an even match so far.

Lan: yeah, but this Hiroki lost a few more points than Mayl did, if they keep exchanging like that, Mayl will win. Also, Mystical Fire was able to stop a Water Pulse, meaning the Dragonair's not as trained up as Roll is.

???: I see.

Hiroki: Dragonair, Dragon Pulse!

The serpent dragon generates a multicolored pulse attack

Hiroki, now combine that with Ice Beam, Dragonair fires a stream of ice over the energy blast, making a rainbow effect with the ice & dragon moves.

Mayl: (wait,,, i got an idea) Roll use Psychic!

Roll's eyes glow blue, holding the multicolored ice in place as more ice & dragon energy is generated.

Mayl: now, send it back with Psychic, and combine that with Mystical Fire!

Roll summons Multi colored flames, and all the energy Dragonair made along with the energy Roll summoned hit the shiny Dragonair, and an explosion of rainbow light radiated, Hiroki lost half of the points he started with in the battle (basically, his points are around 40-45% of where the bar started

Jessalina smirks as she's reminded of her performance earlier.

Hiroki: dang, that was cool. I know we're opponents, but still

Mayl: thanks, Jessalina's performance earlier inspired that idea

Hiroki nods (thinking): i can't waste time, i may be a newbie coordinator, but i'll make my dragonair shine

Mayl: Roll, Mysical Fire & Shadow Ball!

When Roll generates the flames & the ghostly ball, the flames turned purple when they mixed with the ghostly ball.

Hiroki: Dragonair: Water Pulse!

Mayl: counter with Psychic!

Roll's psychic holds the water in place, and move it out of the way as the ghostly flame hits Dragonair, causing Hiroki to lose some more points.

Mc: Mayl & Roll are really dominating this battle, but there's still time for Hiroki to make a comeback.

Lan (thinking): Hiroki's Dragonair only used 3 moves so far, and Mayl took advantage of each one. I just hope that Dragonair doesn't have that move, or Mayl might be in trouble.

Hiroki: now Dragonair time to get us back in the game, combine Water Pulse with Draco Meteor!

Roll: (Dr-draco meteor!)

A stunning meteor shower appears as the multicolored energy from Dragon Pulse merges with all of the meteors, creating a dazzling display of Azure & Megenta, when the attack lands, Mayl lost a big chunk of points. But it's clear that Mayl still holds the lead.

Mayl: it takes a huge amount of love & trust to get a Dragon to learn Draco Meteor, i'm impressed.

Hiroki: thanks, but this bout is just getting started.

Roll & the Shiny Dragonair continue to dance with spectacular grace & beautiful attacks, the timer however hit Zero.

Mc: the timer hit Zero! Let's compare the remaining points

When compared, the scores look just about even.

Mc: huh, let's turn those into actual numbers

When the screen changed from a bar to actual numbers, Hiroki's score was shown to be 2%, Mayl has 3%.

Mc:there you have it folks, Mayl Sakurai advances to the next round!

Mayl & Hiroki walk up to each other & shake hands, the audiance appluads the good sportsmanship between the coordinators

With Addy & Jessalina, the former is heavily scowling, while the Latter looked impressed

Jessalina: she's got talent, i'll give her that

Addy, humph.

Lan: YEAH! That’s it, Mayl! Great job!

Mega: COF! COFAGRIGUS! *blows kisses with his 4 hands*

Mayl finds Lan in the crowd and gives him a smile and wave. Roll puckers her mouth like she’s returning Mega’s kisses.

???: Oh how sweet, it’s almost sickening!

Meowth: *mimes gagging himself*

Lan: Yeah, they’re really gross…

Mega: Cofa…

Meanwhile

Jessalina: You still haven’t answered me. What’s the matter?

Addy: I don’t have to answer to you

Jessalina: Oh, such a bad attitude. You must have such a chip on your shoulder…

Addy: What do you know about me?

Jessalina: Nothing, after all we just met…but I knew someone like you once. Wanting to be the best, trying to prove you are but everyone around you is better. It’s so frustrating isn’t it? Because that glory was supposed to be yours

Addy: …I don’t have to listen to this

Jessalina: You still have some growing up to do. There’s potential though, I can see it. Stick to your passions and keep practicing. Maybe some day you’ll be as fabulous as me

I’ve been listening to old vocaloid songs recently (omg i really miss them a lot. yellow for notepad. oda's apartment is lackluster and bare but for essentials and books. it's not the first time you've been over. but it'll be the last. you know where his study is and you hesitate. you want to know him. and...and you never knew he would have given you what you wanted...

you know he wouldn't mind but it stills feels wrong to go through his things like this.

you do it anyway. what's a little more guilt.

oda's bedroom and study are one and the same. a desk. a pot of violets beneath the windowsill. laptop, phone. on the nightstand: sleeping medication, capsules and pills. two books. the notepad. pale yellow, lined. the small pad is as wide as three fingers, but you could pinch it between two. you don't; somehow it's fragile and you hold it that way.

a grocery list. mathematical calculations on next month's rent, the phone bill, an asterisk and you flip to the next page, find more skritchy-scratchy scribbles: two extra shifts unloading smuggled merchandise at the dock and it'll cover a week of the kids expenses' in advance. you keep flipping through. it's mostly blank.

the last page. his handwriting:

try writing? it says, and the question mark, the damn punctuation mark, is somehow as messy as the words. somehow as carefree. somehow as innocuous.

try writing? it says, and you read it again and again and again until you hear this high-pitched ringing, some distant light years away. try writing? it says, and you think to yourself: shit. shit shit shit shit. and then. odasaku. odasaku odasaku odasaku.

you want to be mad at him. you are mad at him. you're so mad. at him.

and it was inevitable, but you start getting selfish. start thinking about. how you wish you could say, thank you. odasaku, thank you for caring.

you wish he'd say back, how could i not? like somehow, the idea that the two of you wouldn't be friends like this is impossible to believe.

the ringing in your ear turns to static. red curtains. blue blankets. yellow notepad. your eyes close so you can stop seeing all of the colors, just for a second.

it doesn't really help. you know that now and forevermore:

This is basically the “news” I mentioned wanting to tell you guys like a couple months back and failed to do. I was sick when I was planning to do it and then I just forgot about it. You know I won something the second I found out right? x3 I went back and won the Sakura Miku figurine I’ve been fawning over since the testing days:

I’m not sure when I’ll get it because right now the website is having a little bit of a problem processing this when I try to checkout, I sent them an email about it to figure out why its doing what it is.

Stationery Box?!

No pics, sorry guys. Around Christmas or the beginning of January, I got a survey email about an upcoming Stationery themed box that will be made by Japan Crate (the box itself and creators of Umai Crate, Doki Doki, and Kira Kira.). The survey basically asked what we would like to see in it, the number of items, quality of items, price, possible name ideas, etc.

While this sounds like a lot of fun and I would love to get it, I don’t think I will be because I'm subscribed to enough boxes right now >3< if I dropped a box, I’d rather pick up the Japan Crate subscription for its cute and fun foods.

Anyway, I'll be sure to let you guys know how this goes if there is further development.

Minor Kira Kira Crate Update

This is a minor update regarding Kira Kira crate, which actually began with the January box. Basically, everything is staying the same but the item count has been increased from 5-6 to 8-10.

Now, when I got January’s box it was actually a sort of... “celebratory repeat“ box, by that I mean its completely full of past items. Not gonna lie, it made me worry about future boxes and if we’ll get new content...

Closing Sale at Squishy Kiosk

This will be my last bit of information, regarding the shop Squishy Kiosk, one of the shop’s run by the creators of Blippo.com/Kawaii Box. It has been open for over 2 years as of now, but the shop is sadly closing (I don’t know why, they didn’t tell us). So for 1 more week (it was originally 2 weeks but I got the email a week ago from today), there are several squishy still available, and on sale!

Gacha Collection

Here we go guys, thank you for taking the time to get to this point; or if you skipped down to here then I hope it was worth it :P

Okay, so I already showed you my collection thus far. Well here are the 3 boxes I’ve yet to add:

Out of everything I own its actually not very many. I feel bad for being picky, but if someone else could like it more than I would I’d rather get rid of it you know?

Here is my collection (minus those 5 boxes) entirely spilled out on the floor in a semi-contained pile.

I fell in love with these adorable containers, I ended up buying a few of them to put various items into.

That is a picture of my favorite capsules I mentioned in my most recent Gacha Gacha Crate review. I really like these ones because they look like cute colored bubbles and have a fun, easy to open clasp~

SQUISHY!

I only have a handful, but I really really love them! I hope we continue to get more x3 My most favorite would probably be the cucumber sushi one, I love the ones where the item squeezes out.

Not counting the 2 boxes worth of Gacha I won’t be keeping, these filled about half of the container. I got plenty of room for more but I constantly go through it to see which ones I can get rid of or put elsewhere.

(1) Se refiere al azul genciana, es importante que, si quieren buscar este color, aclaren que es color azul, si buscan sólo genciana, les da como resultado una flor medicinal.

(2) Agregué esta parte aunque no está en la letra oficial porque en la canción se puede escuchar que, en las harmonías, Riinu está diciendo algo: en el primer y tercer coro es nandomo, que significa "muchas veces" o "sin importar cuánto", lo que canta en el segundo coro no puedo alcanzar a entenderlo, así que les debo esa pequeña línea de la canción.

Ya le entendí un poco al nuevo formato de Tumblr, pero todavía me estreso cuando estoy editando el texto porque no hace lo que le pido.

Also, es una traducción exprés porque no tenía nada que hacer, así que podría tener alguno que otro error a pesar de que revisé la letra, usando una traducción al inglés de referencia. Realmente no tomé nada de la letra en inglés pero, por si acaso, la traducción fue hecha por Becky PCZ (YT) y la encontré en los comentarios del MV.
