re: your ask from greyr4t about win10: as you said in your answer its free, just needs a key for 'activation.' ime activating win10 has been worth it. like you mentioned, it isnt strictly necessary, one can make do fine in a somewhat limited capacity with the watermark in the corner forever (unless your monitor is an OLED then have fun with 100% guaranteed screen burn in lmao. or unless always seeing it enrages you disproportionately. as in my case). but having windows activated is honestly just nice, it makes many things easier and is more sustainable in the long run... worth the extremely minor hassle as like a QoL thing imo. you also brought up that its possible to circumvent microsoft (and its brazenly insane asking prices 🤬) & buy cheap keys online from third parties. i wanted to talk about how i did shit, hopefully it helps the original asker directly or at least comes in handy to know

so i bought my (shady bootleg, yes, but perfectly functional for years now) win10 activation key for even cheaper than what Synthia listed as a price point- iirc, under 5 bucks USD. (might be higher now w inflation, but id be surprised if its much more than around 10.) if things still work how they used to, you can do this on ebay. technically ebays policies dont allow it, so the accounts selling these keys come and go frequently due to getting shut down by ebay after popping up. thus, dont necessarily be put off if the seller hasnt existed for long, as often thats just how it goes (or it did. hopefully this sort of thing is still going strong🤞); do trust happy reviews. now, there are a few TYPES of activation keys– priced slightly different, nothing big– that correspond to different editions of windows 10. so basically its home edition, pro edition, and "pro for workstations". might be worth finding a brief summary of each to determine which edition best meets your needs. (there are more editions beyond the main trio, look into those too if you want, but the tldr on em is theyre for like niche markets w/ highly specific use cases.) fwiw, i got pro & am happy with it. another thing, from personal experience: may or may not be obvious but you're gonna wanna save a screenshot of your key somewhere safe and accessible. additionally though, label the screenshot somehow so you know what it is later, and if youre a disorganized scatterbrain like i am then put that in multiple places you can reliably access so if/when youre having trouble tracking it down you know where else to look; it came in handy for me to have access to it in places both online (cloud storage like google drive or dropbox for example, or even just saving the email copy of the ebay mssg in the designated folder in your email for the ones containing info you wanna save) & off (physical note on paper, stored in the files on one or more personal devices, etc). theres a huge chance youll need it again in the future– like say if you want to upgrade certain hardware– and likely more than once. final advice: highly recommend looking into comprehensive ways of "defanging" and/or "lobotomizing" windows, as they say. i.e., a tip that gets circulated is doing the initial setup for windows w your pc in airplane mode / ethernet unplugged so you dont have to make a microsoft account so they cant create a profile on you to collect your data to sell off & target ads at you (which is obvi totally reversible later if you decide the benefits of having an account outweigh the drawbacks). shit like that, plus the loads of guides out there– many here on tumblr itself– on extensive fucking around in various settings to disable bloatware / preserve privacy / other useful stuff, that can get pretty granular. i think ive even seen Synthia herself reblog posts like that here a couple times, maybe? perhaps try checking relevant-seeming tags from the tagging system in her pinned, or do a blog search for the term 'windows' and see what all there is to find

hi anon ! thanks for writing all this up !! lots of great points here - hopefully they help you out @greyr4t ! the airplane mode one is real important too if you care about privacy (and the fact you can't choose to make a local account during installation unless you are disconnected from the internet is awful and yet another dark pattern-type tactic.

Hiya! I have some tips for ya :3 (this is gonna be long-)

1, if you still dont have the designs and personalitys figured out yet, I find that for me it's best to create the charater designs and their personality first before going on about world building (but you can reverse that if you want)

If you need help with that, looking at both batim (bendy and the ink machine) and Dca designs and sorta finding out what you can incorporate into them and their designs is important. (This also depends on how canon you want it to be to Batim or sun and moon). Making them look like they actually belong in the universe with their designs and color scheme is pretty important

There's also personality and charater reference sheets on pintrest you can look at and use (do note, most of them are reuploaded from Twitter/X, so-) but it can help alot. Fleshed out charaters with good designs are normally easier for fans to like and stuff

Thats all I really have to say about that, but here's some extra! (AKA like 50 more tips- sorry-)

1, not everyone's gonna like your Au or art, and that's perfectly fine! You just gotta find your target audience, even if that takes awhile.

2, using references is perfectly ok as long as you aren't tracing and claiming it as your own. You cant learn everything automatically lol

3, there's some drama in the dca fandom, so just ignore that lol. People just like hating on things for no reason.

4, don't give up! I've been on tumblr for a bit and I don't really get any recognition. Sometimes people will find your stuff fast, other times they won't see it at all. And thats alright :]

5, designs and lore can change overtime. It's your Au. You can do whatever you want. You have a new design idea? Go for it! No one can stop you from doing smth with your own Au

6, make a pinned post. This is pretty important. It's good to say the rules of your blog first so you don't have to later. (For example, DNI list, rules like if fanworks of your Au are allowed, etc. It can really help.)

And lastly, make a watermark. A water mark is the name of your blog on all your art so if your art gets reposted people can see it and look it up here on tumblr to find your blog. People really like reposting stuff onto pintrest without permission. (You can make a fancy design for it if you want lol. Just download the image with a clear background so you can import it to your art. Idk what art app/website you use tho, so idk how to explain how if you dont know-)

Hakuoki Yuugiroku 2 - Harada Chapter 5

This is my first post of the month, so I’ll start by asking you to please support me if you can through my ko-fi, and paypal or patreon which provides access to my hakuoki blog translations and early access to my postings. well... i mostly drove op.3 and souma-hen out of my head with some of the original hakumyu musicals. i had to re-rip all of my hakumyu cds since the files got lost cuz my passport stopped working... then i started to distract myself by listening to the Kazama-hen soundtrack and a bunch of BGM tracks from Saito-hen, Hijikata-hen and Reimeiroku, which resulted in way more music being stuck in my head. lol *insert pitiful laugh here*. maybe i’ll finally be able to motivate myself into finish my score for kazama-hen’s yaisa this time around (it’s hard to stay focused on a +10 min song that’s reaaaaallly not meant for the piano though i was able to match most of the notes to when they played when compared to the actual song starting from the 4th measure, which i consider to be insanely good considering how there are 333 freaking measures or roughly 46 pages in my damn score. still need to fix a number of sections though)... and i know ive done a ton of procrastinating on it.

Yukimura: Speaking of which/Anyway, Nagakura-san did say that he was apologize to Harada-san for getting him wrongly accused of stealing sake.

I didn't know if Nagakura-san was already here......?

I stepped into the room.

What immediately came into view was the sight of Nagakura-san pressing both of his hands together to apologize.

Shinpachi:——That's how it is! Sano, I'm sorry! I didn't expect for for this to happen!/things to get to this point/develop to this stage!

Harada:......In other words, I was almost banned from going out because of something that you did? Shinpachi.

Shinpachi: We-Well...... if you look at the outcome, it should be fine...... right...... 

B-But, that’s it. I just put the sake in your room because I wanted to share some delicious sake with you——

It was just bad luck that things ended up that way... [i think?]

Harada: I get it, I get it. I know exactly what happened.

Harada:......But, for me to have been accused without any/for no reason, it's not to much to think that I'd lose my temper, right?

Harada-san cracked his fingers as he spoke.

He was smiling, but his eyes weren’t happy at all. 

Shipnachi: U-Uwaaah...!. calm down, Sano! Why are you hitting me!

Harada: Shut up! You should be thankful that I'm just hitting you!

It seemed that Harada-san was quite furious as he looked genuinely angry.

What should I do......!?

Evacuate/Get away

Yukimura: Pl-Please calm down, Harada-san! You can't use violence/Violence is not allowed/Don't use violence!

I hurriedly grabbed/hugged Harada-san to try/and tried to stop him.

Seeing me appear so suddenly, Harada-san was startled, but shortly after, he regained his original scowling expression.

Harada: Don't stop me, Chizuru! That guy, Shinpachi, has earned a good beating!

Yukimura: But, but rather than saying that it was Nagakura-san's fault, wouldn't it be better to say that this was just a coincidence/this was an unfortunate misunderstanding......! 

Harada: You're someone who doesn’t try to offend anyone... .However, Shinpachi. In the end/first place, this incident, were it not for your love of sake/alcohol addiction, none of this would have happened!

Shinpachi: Guh......

Yukimura: But, but starting/engaging in privates fights is punishable by seppuku, so please, please calm down......!

I was almost shaken off, but I desperately continued holding onto Harada-san.

However Harada-san forced me aside and walked over to Nagakura-san, and then smiled.

Harada: Don't worry, Chizuru. This isn't a private fight. I have no intention to start a fight/fight with him.

Shinpachi: Th-That’s right! Although I was prepared to get beaten, won't/cant you forgive me/I was prepared to get beaten, but you’re actually prepared to forgive me...!? No, as expected of my best friend! The broadness of your mind is comparable to Hijikata-san [reword later. sounds archaic lol]!

Looking at the smiling Harada-san, Nagakura-san let out a sigh of relief.

Is that how it will work out/Will that be how this ends......?

The moment/Just as I let go.

I caught the sight of Harada-san's smile deepening as he clenched his fists behind his back.

Harada: Right, I'm not going to fight you——

Harada——But I'm going to punish you! Grit/Clench your teeth, Shinpachi!!!

Shinpachi: GUAHHH!?

Nagakura-san's depressed screams could clearly be heard even outside of headquarters......

Afterwards, Harada-san and Nagakura-san went to Hijikata-san's room......

Once the situation was explained in detail, the order for Harada-san’s house arrest was lifted.

......Instead/On the opposite end, Nagakura-san was severely punished......

Harada: Really, that bastard, Shinpachi....... he can’t/won't stop causing problems.

Yukimura: Ye-Yes. But I think that Harada-san also went too far....... However, it's good that the suspicions against you were cleared because of that, Harada-san.

Harada: Speaking of which, I forgot to thank you. Thanks, Chizuru.

Yukimura: Eh?

Harada: What you did. It's thanks to you that I was able to prove my innocence [tl word i have is more "to your credit/contribution"].

Yukimura: Th-That sort of thing...... what I did isn't such a big deal.

Harada: Haha, a bit of modesty/humility is good, but when a man thanks you, you need to accept it honestly, since it's a necessary condition of being a good woman/but it's a condition of being a good woman to honestly accept when a man gives thanks, alright?", alright [i think????]?

Seeing Harada-san smile, I couldn't help but also laugh/smile.

Harada: So/Anyway, if you want to go to the festival, just call me at any time/call me whenever. As thanks/As a gift, can I accompany you/keep you company then?

Yukimura: Yes, thank you.

Although there were many twists and turns......

I’m really glad that Harada-san's ban on going out was lifted.

on account of him having no mouth, you may be thinking, "how does she eat?" well, let me tell you! they absorb the ambient magical energy that is everywhere in his world (which can honestly be any world lmao)

her eyes do the cat eye reflecty thing at night (i am a big fan of the eye thing)

they can use magic, including long lasting spells that use small amounts of energy for as long as theyre in place, but he has to be careful or she can drain too much magic faster than it can be replenished from absorbing ambient magic and risk, in increasing order of severity: exhaustion, passing out, coma, or death

on the topic of using magic, miles can use high energy spells for a short amount of time as, when they are low on magic energy, he can absorb it from the surrounding at a much faster rate, the only problem being that she cant absorb any magic that has been cast by a magic user, including themself, so he runs the risk of lowering the ambient magic of an area to undetectable levels by absorbing the magic faster than its replaced, leaving the area undesirable and low-magic for as long as it takes to reach natural levels again

the above also means she cant stay in that area for more than a couple hours before feeling "hungry" and weak and needing to leave until it returns to normal

they have toe beans

his eyes slit when she gets angry

their tail helps him balance on narrow things like fences and thin walls

she loves high places and can scale almost any surface with relative ease

there are others of their species but they arent as common as they used to be due to the gods and most of the very powerful magic users being much less involved with mortals (in general), so there being less ambient magic in non-remote civilisations (most of their species have taken to forests and remote villages so they dont have to feel "hunger" at any time)

so yea most places with civilaisation have uneven, and usually barely sufficient, ambient magic. outskirts usually have a little more than the hearts or towns and cities

it is unsustainable for miles to live in towns/cities without trips to the forest, so every other week or so they take a few days to go down to the forest and recharge

hes currently researching ways to capture and store ambient magical energy, similar to a battery, but she hasnt found much luck. there are 'batteries' for casted magic, but since they cant even use that magic, its only use to him is a headstart in her research

oh my god miles is literally just a magical rechargable battery how did i just realise that

why cant they use casted magic energy? well, casted magic carries a signature of the user, like a big fat watermark, so he cant absorb it. think of it like it being the wrong blood type

and why can she use ambient energy when it has traces of the gods and the users who release it? think of this magic like a universal blood type, anyone can use it. it still came from someone, and has their cells, but it works for literally anyone that needs it, including miles

also to confirm, yes they have fur, she covered with it all over, and the tail and cheek fur is more fluffy and requires more maintenance than the short fur everywhere else. the horns (theyre horns) are also furry and dont move (on account of being attatched to the skull)

I had a quick question, and possibly a stupid one, When you want to sell a piece specifically and put it online, how do you ensure someone doesn't just download and print it?? Or sending them a final click of their commision and they just download that?

Hi!! Thanku for liking my artwork!!! 🥺💖💖 I won't lie, I may not be the best person to be asked this question bc i dont sell my work online or do commissions (i usually just sell physical prints at conventions!), but I'll try my best to answer w/ what i know!!

Unfortunately there's no way to guarantee that someone online won't just download and use ur art at their own will, there are some ppl who are just mean and cant be reasoned with 😖😖

What you can do is watermark everything u post online! either ur signature, name, url/internet handle, whatver u choose, just place it somewhere hard to crop, like near the main subject matter or even at like a 50% opacity over a detailed section of ur art so its hard for reposters/art thieves to edit out! There's an artist I love that has their url just watermark overlayed from end to end of their piece so its just Huge! I'd also recommend never posting high-res versions of ur pieces online. there's a save option in most programs thats "save for web" where u have the option of choosing the resolution of your final piece. This will just make it harder for ppl to resell ur stuff bc if they try to enlarge it, it'll be quite blurry!

As for commissions, i'd recommend asking for full payment upfront (or 50% payment first and the 50% payment just before u send the final product) and making it clear to ur commissioner ur terms and conditions (i.e. personal use only, that u as the artist still maintain all copyrights, not to be used for profit, etc.). you can also watermark all the WIPs u send ur commissioner until ur ready to send them the final finished product once payment has been settled! Make sure u get everything in writing too, whether its in emails or creating a "Commission Form" for the commissioner to fill out and sign with what they want + making sure they're aware and agree to ur terms and conditions!

if worse comes to worse, most social media platforms allow you to report someone for copyright infringement! Its a rough process but ive deffs heard of times when it's worked! I'd also say familiarise urself w/ the copyright laws of where you live, i'm not sure abt outside of australia (where i live) but here it's that as soon as someone creates a piece of art, they immediately own the copyrights to it, u dont even have to register it anywhere (u can even have this in ur watermark! e.i. [ur name]  © 2021 [or yr of creation])!

the only reason why i havent done any of these things is bc im incredibly lazy ahaha im a really really small time/obscure artist with a tiny, yet wonderful, following so i haven't really had to worry abt reposters/art thieves (if ive been reposted, i have no idea but i 100% do NOT give permission!!). But that being said, even if youre a small time artist and haven't had to deal w/ these things, its still a good idea to put these things into practice! dont be like me lol

oki dokey! its honestly p simple one u memorize the Steps! (if there’s anything you’re still ?? abt pls pls message me! im bad at typing out instructions so like jfjajfhgowigowa im scared i’ll leave u MORE confused mfmmgg) !!! 

i’ll use my lil red riding chan gif to show you!!!

1) open up the video

open up whatever video you plan on giffing !! (”file” > “navigate” > open up whatever video it is you want to gif!) 

2) cutting to the scene you want

using the snipping tool, you’ll cut the video where you want to start the gif. then you’ll let it play till where you want the gif to end! and hit the scissor icon again. now you’ll have the desired clip. 

now you’ll have 3 ‘layers’ in the layers tab. you can go ahead and delete the top and bottom layers so you only have the middle layer (the one i have highlighted)!

(side note: if you’re trying to get it PRECISE and down to the frame, using the toggles that allow you to go from frame to frame is helpful! 

this’ll let you get it down to precisely where you’d like!) 

3) getting the frames

(make sure the layer is highlighted)

so you see the four lil lines? you click on those and you’ll get a drop down menu. 

so as i’ve highlighted, you’ll click on “convert frames” and then “flatten frames into clips” 

you will now have the frames from the video! ok, now you click on the “convert to frame animation” button! (the one i’ve circled) 

now your timeline should look like this: 

now going back to the four little lines from earlier: 

you’re going to “make frames from layers” 

your timeline should now be filled with all the frames from your video! 

(side note: try to keep your gif less than 80 frames. the bigger your gif the bigger the file the more trouble you’ll have saving, uploading, etc. tumblr has a limit on size for gifs so ! be very wary ! )

4) timing

so every frame has a lil time code on it! 

as you can see, the first one is 1.27 seconds, the second is 0 seconds- i can’t speak for every gifmaker, so i’ll just say what kind of speeds i personally use. i really prefer a little bit of a slower gif- to me it feels a little smoother and is easier on the eyes, and if you’re adding text to your gif, then the reader has a bit more time to read (if your subs change in the middle or smth) 

so going back to our four lil lines 

you click on “select all frames” (or you can click on the first frame, scroll to the end of the frames and while holding your ‘shift’ key, you click on the last frame; has the same result!) now, you go to the lil drop down arrow next to the time code on any of the frames, and input your time settings! 

i use the setting of 0.07 seconds! its a little slower. some people do ‘0.05′ and some people will leave the gif at its original speed (which is ‘0′ second delay) !!!

and now you hit ‘ok’ and your times should all be the same! at this point, give the frames a once over and see if everything is running fine and you have all the frames you want, by clicking on the play button and seeing how it looks.

(side note: make sure that your looping times is set to ‘Forever’!!!)

if everything is fine then you can move on! if you think that you’d like to remove some frames then you can select those frames individually (or by the clicking and shift method from earlier) and using the lil trash icon. you can delete those frames! now you should have all the frames you want!

5) cropping + resizing 

from your tools sidebar, you’ll pick the crop tool 

in the bar along the top of the screen, you’ll see a lil drop down menu

okay, this is also another preference thing? so like, depending on the set you’re making, you might want like a different size! 

in the first gif, i used ‘W x H x Resolution’ option, whereas the second gif i used the ‘4:5 (8:10)’ ratio! so like, its v dependent on what kind of gif you’re making. for 2x2 or 3x3 sets i tend to use 4:5 while single sets i use a free ratio so i can crop how i’d prefer the gif to look! 

so with the red riding hood gif i used the ‘4:5′ ratio! 

when you choose an option, you’ll get this sort of screen 

if you click once, you’ll be given a grid and the ability to now resize!!! 

when you’re happy with your selection, you can click the checkmark i circled in the first picture, and it’ll crop your image!

yay!! okay! now you have to resize the image! so you go to the top of the screen and you choose: ‘Image’

from here you’ll choose ‘Image Size’ or alternatively hit ‘ALT + CTRL + I’ 

you’ll get this dialogue box !!! where you can now imput your width (the height will automatically resize!) 

alright so for sets, i’m not too sure about other ppl, but i resize my gifs following this usually! 

500 pixels == 1 gif

245 pixels == 2 gifs side by side

160 pixels == 3 gifs side by side 

those sizes usually look fine on tumblr and also work well with the image size limit!!! 

(i resized this gif to 245px because i was putting 2 gifs side by side!) 

after you’ve imputed the size, you can now hit okay! you’ll get this dialogue box:

go ahead and tick the ‘don’t show again’ and then click ‘Convert’ 

6) sharpening

okay, normally, you’d have to go through frame by frame and sharpen, but ; v ; your time gets eaten tf up so like… this is just the way i sharpen all the frames at the same time!! 

so go ahead and select everything in your time line, either by the shift++click method or by going to the ‘select all frames’, and then go over to the layers panel and click on the bottom most frame, then scroll to the top and while holding shift, click on the top most frame. 

everything should be selected like this! 

go the four lines again and click on the convert to video timeline

your timeline should now look like this: 

okay, now, going back to your top bar, you’ll pick ‘Filter’ 

and then click on ‘Convert for Smart Filters’ 

(side note: you’ll get another dialogue box i believe, so just tick the do not show and go ahead and continue) 

clicking on filter again, you’ll go down to ‘Sharpen’ and then ‘Smart Sharpen’. you should get another dialogue box 

these are the settings that i use! and once you put them in, you can go ahead and press okay, and your gif will be sharpened 

(side note: there’s only SO much that sharpening can do to your gif. the best scenario: you have a video thats 1080p and the sharpening will add. but if your video quality isn’t the greatest then be understanding, ps can only do so much… also !!! some ppl sharpen twice, if you think it’ll look good you can go ahead and do that!!! i prefer to sharpen once, so that it doesn’t get too grainy!!!) 

your gif is now sharpened!!! 

7) colouring 

uhh this one i can’t give you too many instructions for?? bc every gifmaker tends to have their own colouring style. it’ll really be up to your discretion and preference on how you colour things!!! 

these are the tools when it comes to colouring!!! you can like… go to town and test different colourings! i shit you not… this is what takes me the LONGEST during giffing now.. like once i had the process down?? i was like ???? what should i make the colouring???

this is what i had on this specific gif- every video will vary and you’ll soon figure out what colourings suit what videos or lightings or etc !!! 

8) watermarking (optional) 

this is optional but like………. in this day and age…………………….

so you select the text tool and you just type your url in whatever font you want??? 

these are the settings i use!!! and then i set the ‘Opacity’ at however much i think is suitable. (darker gifs, i might make the watermark a lil less visible, whereas brighter gifs i’ll make it a lil stronger!)

9) saving to the web 

YAY! we’re done! you made the gif! pat your back!!! 

mm okay now you have to save it !! so you can either do ‘CTRL++SHIFT++ALT++S’ or!!! 

‘File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)’ 

your gif will take a moment to render, but when it does you’ll get this screen!!! 

these are the settings you should adjust to !!! 

(side note: pay attention to the size !! 

above certain mb your gif will be too big to upload !!! and tumblr will give you an error and tell you to try sizing down!!!)

also make sure: 

that it says ‘Forever’ !!!! 

and finally !! give your gif a play by clicking on the play button! make sure everything is fine and that your gif loops, and everything looks how you want it!!!

if you’re happy with how everything looks! 

click save !!! 

you can chose where you wanna save it and name it aptly !!!

Entry 11- Studio Visit

So I finally got to meet up with two Derby Based Art houses. I’m not going to lie, finding a professional to talk to outside in the real world was incredibly difficult. First it was finding who I admired, which proved very hard as my style is fleeting yet the same, and also some of my favorite artists are foreign (in hindsight I could of maybe messaged some artists with some questions but that wasn't the requirement). Also, The artists I emailed didn't get back to me, so it was pretty disheartening at times. I was getting excited to travel!!

1-Crumble Collective

Thankfully I had contacted the Crumble Collective, A group of talented ex Derby University students who had recently started there own, well, collective.I had known about them since last year as I knew they had been commissioned by the University to paint the Mural outside the fashion building.

 I had also met one of the members before whilst she was working in another job. I  gave them a email:

their head, Alice contacted me back and was more than thrilled to meet up with me and several peers. We had agreed to meet at one of the local bars of Derby. Along with Alice was Dom, a photographer and vice head of the collective.I took a lot of useful information from the meeting and it opened my eyes to information I was aware of. Obviously they were rather new to the professional art world themselves, giving us  interesting advice and stories of her creative career. at the beginning of an artists career can be difficult as most people will have to support themselves with two jobs, I kind of knew this was inevitable, especially since I knew most likely I wouldn't earn a lot in my first couple of years I guess. With a lot of hard work though, Alice is soon turning the Crumble Collective into an Agency and becoming a CEO. She also pointed us to societies and unions like the Association of Illustrators (AOI for short) where they hold competitions and support for Illustrators and also contain helpful legal documents and templates. Alice made us aware of creating a contract for ourselves as soon as we consider doing more commercial work (but it was worth getting it done ASAP) she said we needed one just in case we could protect our work as artists.

Ill list down some key pointers from our talk:

When in doubt, sell your art for at minimum , £100, don’t doubt your work is ‘shit’

Watermark your work! Instagram apparently has an awful Terms of Service for artists, if someone takes your art, they (Instagram)  cant do anything about it

Make friends with the Tutors, they are a valuable contact outside of university and always ask if they have any work they can pass over (noted)

Alice also mentioned how we could contact her at any time if we needed any help, I’m hoping I have made a good impression.

2-Katapult

Several weeks ago we had tried gaining a studio visit with Katapult but due to the busy nature of the company we didn't hear back until a couple of weeks ago where they were offering talks to the University so me and my peers signed up for it. The company parallels a lot of the Crumble Collective interestingly. They first started as a collective too about several years back and would do promotional night club events and DJing as well ( Which I found pretty cool) as promoting for other companies, this was the building blocks for the Company. As I have said in a previous post, Katapult are a Graphic design company that help promote companies within the Entertainment sector. Andy Gilmore took our meeting with us and showed us their reel, I like Andy I think he has a lot of useful knowledge. We had also Met Dawn Foote, and Phil Higgins, the two Co-founders of Katapult who were just as informative.

These are some notes I took, the brightness is too high, I know sorry, but ill give points to what was said:

Projects can be short; so its best to prioritise and you can spend a lot of time on your own with them.

Build contacts

If possible, try and go to a lot of artistic Events and networking, this ties in with the last point.

Pressure yourself

Sometimes clients can be difficult or have too many ideas or a vague idea, its best to reel it in and be grounded, if in doubt, contact a higher up about the project (if possible)

But also, if you know an idea just cannot work regardless of experience or fundamentally you just cant, don’t be afraid to voice that concern or say “No”.

I really like there chill idea room, they had a very stimulating and fun studio for them to work in. They also had a work dog, that was a bonus from me because the dog was really friendly, who doesnt want to work in a place with pets?

Overall, it was incredibly informative to have taken the time to speak with all these talented people and not to mention giving us useful and constructive advice we may need one day in the real world, now that’s some scary stuff!
