Unknown Conditions: Questions of Maleness
May 8–29 Reception: Thursday, May 7, 4:00–6:00 p.m. The LeRoy Neiman Center Gallery, 37 S. Wabash Ave., suite 106
Curated by Eric S. Oresick (MFA 2015) in collaboration with Kyle Nilan (MFA 2015) and Woomin Kim (MFA 2015), Unknown Conditions: Questions of Maleness contends with themes of masculinity. The works emphasize materiality, and the process of creation and display to defy gender boundaries. If Nilan and Oresick's works allow viewers to explore the nuances of masculinity, Kim's pieces act as a foil for understanding contemporary "maleness" and its unraveling.

WEST
August 25–September 25 Reception: September 8, 4:00–6:00 p.m.
Gallery X, 280 S. Columbus Dr., room 113
WEST, featuring Elena Ailes (MFA 2015), Lucas Briffa (MFA 2015), Matt Coleman (MA 2015), and Alison Reilly (MA 2015), deconstructs romantic stereotypes about the American West while questioning the ways in which humans mythologize the land. This interdepartmental collective will explore the conflation of personal memory, dislocation and myth, and investigate the power of ideology, secrecy, and mediation within the West's perceived emptiness. Together, these artists will present artwork alongside research, produce a publication, and host public forums.
Research for the exhibition is supported by an EAGER Grant from the Earl and Brenda Shapiro Center for Research and Collaboration at SAIC.

Here, There and Everywhere: Truth and Liveness
Work by Angharad Davies and Stephen Kwok
June 13–July 12 Reception: Monday, June 16, 4:00–6:00 p.m. The LeRoy Neiman Center Gallery, 37 S. Wabash Ave.
How is liveness implied through absence? Can the recorded still be live? Is it wrong to lie? Can we be everywhere at once? Here, There and Everywhere: Truth and Liveness investigates what it means to be present in the digital age. Angharad Davies (MFA 2014) and Stephen Kwok (MFA 2014) examine liveness through recorded interactions, audience-activated installations, and presentational lectures. The artist is always present. The artist lies.

Directions
Work by Morgan Elder and Charles Kelman
April 4–19
Reception: Thursday, April 3, 4:00–6:00 p.m. Gallery X, 280 S. Columbus Dr., room 113
Directions explores the notion of line beyond the context of two-dimensional images. Referencing materials and forms found in domestic spaces and urban environments, sculptures by Morgan Elder (BFA 2014) and Charles Kelman (BFA 2014) evoke associations with commonplace, utilitarian objects. Lines rendered in real space become tangible ideas that blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture.
