Play about Christopher Alder’s death to be turned into film | Stage
[ad_1]
A play about a notorious case of a black man dying in police custody is being made into a film, with its creator hoping it can ignite a conversation about systemic racism in the UK and dismiss the myth of a post-racial Britain.
In 2018, playwright Ryan Calais Cameron wrote Typical, a one-man play which is based on the death of Christopher Alder, a Falklands veteran who died while…

Fox news NFC South draft grades: Bucs just owning offseason - NFL.com
Tumblr media
Fox news
Why provide instantaneous grades on the selections of potentialities who possess yet to get an NFL snap? Effectively, you are learning this, don't seem to be you? Brooding in regards to the makeup of every roster and the components surrounding every comprise, Gennaro Filice and Dan Parr strive a division-by-division evaluation of the 2020 NFL Draft. Procure in mind that these grades are per draft hauls on my own -- picks traded for historical gamers were now not taken into story. Below is Gennaro's evaluation of the NFC South.
NOTABLE SELECTIONS
BEST PICK: Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Spherical 1, No. 13 overall
As talked about earlier than in the NFC East installment of this sequence, over the long, daunting stroll-as much as the draft, NFL.com printed 31 mock drafts by 11 diversified analysts. Of these analysts, handiest one projected Wirfs to Tampa Bay -- and that man did so in all three of his mocks! Charley Casserly, I dub thee Wirfs Whisperer. The frail Redskins/Texans fashioned supervisor had the Bucs plucking Wirfs with the No. 14 overall comprise in Mocks 1.0 and 2.0, and then he had Jason Licht jumping as much as No. 9 in verbalize to staunch the athletic address's companies in Mock 3.0. Coincidentally, neither of these scenarios in point of fact performed out. Effectively, Licht did land Wirfs by shopping and selling up, however handiest by one slot. What became as soon as the inducement within the assist of that uncommon mini-jump up the board? As chronicled by NBC Sports actions' Peter King, Licht had caught wind that 49ers LT Joe Staley became as soon as going to retire -- which he did two days later -- and the Bucs GM became as soon as frightened San Francisco would per chance per chance also comprise the closing of the Nice Four tackles at No. 13. So Licht switched spots with Niners GM John Lynch -- swapping a fourth-spherical comprise for a seventh-rounder at some stage in -- and bought his man, shoring up the protection on Tom Brady's front aspect. And that, boys and girls, is the anatomy of a first-spherical draft comprise.
Tumblr media
MOST SURPRISING PICK: Cesar Ruiz, C/OG, Michigan Unusual Orleans Saints, Spherical 1, No. 24 overall
The Saints arguably entered this draft with per chance the most total roster within the NFL. Which skill, mock predix on the No. 24 comprise were in each place, environment up a scenario the place any comprise shall be deemed a surprise. ... Or no comprise shall be deemed a surprise?? I assemble now not know -- barely made it by Philosophy 101. Nevertheless I contend that Ruiz became as soon as certainly a surprise preference, because Unusual Orleans became as soon as already declare to return all five starters from an extraordinarily adorned neighborhood up front. LT Terron Armstead, LG Andrus Peat and RG Larry Warford made the Skilled Bowl closing season, RT Ryan Ramczyk became as soon as first-personnel All-Skilled and C Erik McCoy nabbed a predicament on PFWA's All-Rookie Crew. So, what's the conception for next season? Straight away following the sequence of Ruiz, who performed heart and guard at Michigan, all eyes went to Warford. The 28-yr-archaic carries the 2d-greatest cap hit on the personnel at $12.875 million, trailing handiest Drew Brees' $23.650 million figure, and closer watchers of the Saints' offensive line than me notify that the lawful guard's play slipped rather closing yr. With a first-rounder now getting into the interior-OL fray, Warford appears to be like like a top reduce candidate. If that's the case, Unusual Orleans will favor to take in trusty over $5 million in dreary money, however that'd peaceful liberate virtually $8 million in cap declare. And it would give the Saints' offensive line an moderate age of about 24 years archaic, with each person below contract by now not lower than the next two seasons. Juicy.
BIGGEST SLEEPER: Tyler Johnson, WR, Minnesota Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Spherical 5, No. 161 overall
With a pair of Skilled Bowl wide receivers (Mike Evans and Chris Godwin) and a trio of proficient tight ends (Utilize Gronkowski, Cameron Brate and -- for now -- O.J. Howard), Tom Brady arrived in Tampa to rather a sequence of hump catchers. Did the Bucs trusty nab the cherry on top: a subtle slot receiver? Johnson rewrote the Minnesota file e book closing season, racking up 86 catches for 1,318 yards. And the bulk of that manufacturing -- 67 catches and 1,086 yards, per Skilled Football Focus -- got right here within the slot. The 6-foot-1, 206-pounder is a atypical more or less participant than the undersized, cat-speedy slot machines Brady maximized in Unusual England. Johnson doesn't shake cornerbacks, he bullies them. Johnson lacks top-stay juice and welcomes contact, excelling in contested-web instances. Nevertheless he does part one fashioned trait with Wes Welker, Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola: pristine route-working capacity. If Johnson can successfully-organized up the drops, he would per chance per chance also hasty turn accurate into a precious weapon in TB12's arsenal.
TEAM GRADES
NOTE: Draft classes are ranked from handiest to worst within the division.
» Spherical 1: (No. 13 overall) Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa. » Spherical 2: (45) Antoine Winfield Jr., S, Minnesota. » Spherical 3: (76) Ke'Shawn Vaughn, RB, Vanderbilt. » Spherical 5: (161) Tyler Johnson, WR, Minnesota. » Spherical 6: (194) Khalil Davis, DT, Nebraska. » Spherical 7: (241) Chapelle Russell, LB, Temple; (245) Raymond Calais, RB, Louisiana-Lafayette.
So, what's it gonna be, Bucs followers: Tompa Bay or Tampa Brady? GM Jason Licht continues to assemble every part in his strength to place the brand new franchise face within the very supreme declare to succeed, the employ of three of his first four picks on offensive needs. Wirfs looks to be as if a hump-and-play starter at lawful address, with supreme athleticism and the supreme lower physique I've ever laid eyes on on the NFL Scouting Mix. (Seriously, this man is a miles superior species to me.) Spherical 3 frankly felt a exiguous successfully off for Vaughn -- RB Zack Moss' violent, all-around sport gave the impact quite a bit more enticing at that time -- however the Buccaneers wanted yet another backfield presence to enroll in Ronald Jones II, and it appears to be just like the one-reduce Vandy product became as soon as their man. Johnson shall be the last portion to Tampa's loaded pack of hump catchers, as a huge slot who runs the more or less nuanced routes Brady will fancy. The one defensive participant Licht snatched within the first five rounds is a gem. A flexible safety who's perfect for this day's sport, Winfield hits like his dad and has the playmaking instincts you'd demand from somebody who grew up in NFL locker rooms. "Once I became as soon as youthful my dad would lay in his bed along with his computer computer, and I'd be sitting lawful next to him looking out at film," Winfield said on the combine. Todd Bowles is gonna celebrate with this beginner.
» Spherical 1: (No. 7 overall) Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn. » Spherical 2: (38) Yetur Noxious-Matos, Edge, Penn Deliver; (64) Jeremy Chinn, S, Southern Illinois. » Spherical 4: (113) Troy Pleasure Jr., CB, Notre Dame. » Spherical 5: (152) Kenny Robinson, S, West Virginia. » Spherical 6: (184) Bravvion Roy, DT, Baylor. » Spherical 7: (221) Stantley Thomas-Oliver III, CB, Florida Global.
While you watched the 2020 NFL Draft for five minutes, you heard the phrase "Rhule Restoration" 10 times. So, what precisely is that, moreover rapid alliteration? Effectively, within the first draft of the Matt Rhule technology, Carolina's Rhule Restoration consisted of carpet-bombing the protection with draftees -- ALL THE DRAFTEES. The Panthers grew to became the first personnel within the fashioned-draft technology to employ all of their picks on defensive gamers. It's in point of fact now not that horrid, both. Carolina carried out 31st in scoring protection closing season. ... After which one amongst the very handiest gamers in franchise historical past -- linebacker Luke Kuechly -- all straight away retired. ... After which the Panthers' CB1 signed a mega-address the Giants. ... After which they lost four skilled disruptors up front ( Mario Addison, Bruce Irvin, Dontari Poe and Vernon Butler), as successfully as Eric Reid within the assist stay. Long legend speedy, Carolina got right here into this draft with serious needs on all three phases of the protection. In Spherical 1, the Panthers handed on assemble-every part playmaker Isaiah Simmons in favor of a gargantuan anchor to scheme around (Brown). In Spherical 2, they snagged a toolsy edge rusher to hunt opposite closing yr's first-spherical comprise, Brian Burns, and then traded assist into the spherical to realize Chinn, an nice looking hybrid who sounds like store-trace Simmons. Essentially the most considerable Day 3 addition became as soon as Pleasure, who would per chance per chance also push for early playing time in a cornerback rotation within the meantime topped by the inconsistent Donte Jackson and the awesomely named/minimally confirmed Corn Elder. Rhule Restorers ... MOUNT UP!
» Spherical 1: (No. 24 overall) Cesar Ruiz, C, Michigan. » Spherical 3: (74) Zack Baun, LB, Wisconsin; (105) Adam Trautman, TE, Dayton. » Spherical 7: (240) Tommy Stevens, QB, Mississippi Deliver.
Heading into the draft, Unusual Orleans did now not possess a single obtrusive want. With an NFL-handiest 37 wins over the last three traditional seasons, the Saints boast as successfully-rounded -- and battle-examined -- a roster as there might per chance be within the NFL this day. So or now not it is no surprise they selected to bundle picks in quite a bit of alternate-ups, leaving the draft with the league's smallest prospect haul. How does the category grade out? Now now not too shabby. Spending a first-spherical comprise on an interior offensive linemen is now not precisely moving, however that does not imply or now not it is senseless. Ruiz became as soon as the stop pivot in his recruiting class out of highschool, started at guard and heart in some unspecified time in the future of three gorgeous years of play in Ann Arbor and hits the NFL ready to begin on Day 1. (Incumbent lawful guard Larry Warford and his hefty cap hit seem like on borrowed time.) Baun offers Unusual Orleans a flexible linebacker within the Kyle Van Noy mildew. He can provide stress off the sting, however moreover has the athleticism and consciousness to again his delight in in coverage. And Trautman's an nice looking developmental prospect as a precise Y tight stay. At 6-5 and 255 kilos, he's equal aspects receiver and blocker, however his transition from the FCS to the NFL is gonna comprise time. Shrimp class, massive capacity.
» Spherical 1: (No. 16 overall) A.J. Terrell, CB, Clemson. » Spherical 2: (47) Marlon Davidson, DL, Auburn. » Spherical 3: (78) Matt Hennessy, C, Temple. » Spherical 4: (119) Mykal Walker, LB, Fresno Deliver; (134) Jaylinn Hawkins, S, Cal. » Spherical 7: (228) Sterling Hofrichter, P, Syracuse.
Over the course of the pre-draft course of, Jeff Okudah became as soon as widely notion to be the stop cornerback prospect, whereas C.J. Henderson established himself as CB2. Nevertheless the third-handiest nook on this class? That became as soon as a hotly debated topic. When the Falcons weighed in with their decision -- taking Terrell, an Atlanta native, at No. 16 overall -- many disapproved, in conjunction with ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr., who said the personnel "reached for a want, straightforward and straight forward." I truly possess a sneaking suspicion there might per chance be some recency bias at play right here. Terrell, finally, had a tough evening on the declare of enterprise in his closing sport, the College Football Playoff Nationwide Championship. On the brightest stage of his playing profession, Terrell became as soon as torched by LSU wide receiver Ja'Marr Trot. Nevertheless let's be aesthetic: Who did now not salvage torched by Ja'Marr Trot? The Biletnikoff Award winner caught 84 passes for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns -- with the latter two marks environment SEC records -- and he's poised to be a truly highly selected participant within the 2021 draft. Out of doors of that exhausting day day commute, Terrell acquitted himself swish darn successfully on the island. He's long (6-1) and rapid (4.42 40), too. And with each person screaming "REACH!!" upon his preference, the 21-yr-archaic must enter the NFL with a lovely wide chip on his shoulder. Very to seem how his profession performs out.

The top 5 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year candidates, ranked
Tumblr media
Nick Bosa has some competition in the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year race.
Two pass rushers lead the pack, but a certain Steelers linebacker has been vital to Pittsburgh’s playoff hopes.
The 2019 NFL Draft may have been headlined by Kyler Murray, but the cream of the rookie crop was dominated by defenders. Four of the top five picks and seven of the top 10 were defensive linemen or linebackers. That set up a stacked field for this year’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors.
Some of those candidates have come from expected places. Nick Bosa and Josh Allen have each lived up to their top-10 pedigrees with their dynamic edge rushing. Others, like Maxx Crosby and Cole Holcomb, rallied all the way from Day 3 of the draft to become impact players in their debut seasons.
Who has stood tallest above the rest of the field? Five players have improved throughout the season to put their stamp on 2019 and set lofty expectations for their futures. Let’s talk about them.
(Interested in this year’s Offensive Rookie of the Year frontrunners? We’ve got you covered.)
5. Sean Murphy-Bunting, Buccaneers
The 2019 draft class didn’t produce many great rookie defensive backs, though Chiefs safety Juan Thornhill deserves consideration. Murphy-Bunting may turn out to be the best of the group. The second-round pick out of Central Michigan barely played to begin the season (14 total defensive snaps through Week 4), but since became a valuable starter for the Buccaneers.
His 32 points saved leads all rookies in the secondary, per SIS. He’s got his flaws as an occasional boom-or-bust, overplays-his-hand corner, but he’s shown the discipline necessary to put these rookie mistakes behind him and become a stabilizing force in a Tampa secondary that was among the league’s worst in 2018.
Detroit native Sean Murphy-Bunting gets a Pick-6 in his hometown! @MrSeanyB1 #GoBucs #TBvsDET : FOX : NFL app // Yahoo Sports app Watch free on mobile: https://t.co/ALWDCpltog pic.twitter.com/pNDWc9rQG6
— NFL (@NFL) December 15, 2019
Murphy-Bunting’s emergence helped offset the loss of an ineffective Vernon Hargreaves, who was waived after Week 10. That was a statement on Hargreaves’ general lack of success in Tampa, certainly; it was also a message that the secondary belongs to Murphy-Bunting and second-year corner Carlton Davis now.
And while Murphy-Bunting doesn’t have a prayer at winning rookie of the year, his late-season surge could make him one of NFL’s top young cornerbacks.
Key stat: Murphy-Bunting allowed an 88.4 passer rating in coverage this fall — a mark that doesn’t seem too impressive until you consider the passers he’s seen since jumping into the starting lineup (including Russell Wilson, Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and Deshaun Watson). That’s an above-average rate for a still-developing player, and it’s better than the 90.0 mark the rest of the Tampa D allowed.
4. Maxx Crosby, Raiders
You could make the case here for Panthers defensive end Brian Burns, but Crosby has been the more effective pass rusher in a greater amount of playing time. That’s been a godsend for Oakland, which had a league-low 13 sacks in 2018.
The former Eastern Michigan star needed some time to adjust to the NFL, but his move to the starting lineup in Week 5 set off a string of strong performances. He had 10 sacks in the 12 games that followed. While concerns about his athleticism followed him to the league, he’s shown he’s capable of working along the edge or cutting back inside to shrink pockets and create havoc.
The rookie Maxx has 8.5 sacks on the season...#Raiders #Jaguars #NFL pic.twitter.com/tEUOsRSqHW
— Christopher Reiss (@NFL_ChrisReiss) December 15, 2019
Crosby’s still got a ways to go — he’s still an inconsistent tackler and can struggle to contain ballcarriers — but his promising rookie campaign suggests he should be a Jon Gruden favorite in the immediate future.
Key stat: Crosby’s 12.4 percent pressure rate was better than Jadeveon Clowney, Arik Armsead, or Chandler Jones. His 52 total pressures ranked 11th among all NFL defensive linemen.
3. Devin Bush, Steelers
Bush inherited the undesirable job of replacing Ryan Shazier’s presence in the middle of the field in Pittsburgh. The 10th overall pick isn’t yet able to hold a defense together like a peak Shazier could, but he’s been an upgrade over Mark Barron. Even though it’s early, Bush looks like the missing piece in the Steelers’ never-ending quest to rebuild the Steel Curtain defense.
He was called upon to be a sideline-to-sideline player in the linebacking corps alongside Vince Williams. That meant handling coverage over the middle of the field as well as shooting gaps to bring down tailbacks near the line of scrimmage. He was solid in both phases, showcasing not just the awareness to track the ball through traffic but the explosive burst to make plays in the open field. Bush has also been effective when it comes to erasing pass-catching backs in the flat or in wheel routs.
That was vital in a season where Ben Roethlisberger’s elbow injury stripped the Steelers’ offense down to quad-A levels. Pittsburgh remained in position to make a run to the postseason late in 2019 despite a 1-4 start and an offense that ranks 29th in the league in yards per play. The Steelers overcame that deficiency behind a defense that ranked first in the league in takeaways created. Bush, with two interceptions, one forced fumble, and four fumbles recovered, was a big part of that.
Key stat: Bush’s nine tackles for loss were fourth-most among his rookie class (behind three other guys on this list). More impressively, he was able to do that despite being a non-factor in pass rushing; he’s only been tasked with bringing pressure on roughly 6 percent of his snaps.
2. Josh Allen, Jaguars
Being overlooked is kind of Allen’s thing. The former two-star recruit only had scholarship offers from two Power 5 football programs — Kentucky and Kansas. He barely played for the Wildcats as a freshman before emerging as a good pass rusher (14 sacks as a sophomore and junior) and then an unstoppable one (17 sacks as a senior).
Even with that growth and production, he slipped to the Jaguars with the seventh overall pick as four other defenders (and quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones) were selected ahead of him. Now his stellar rookie season has failed to earn its proper due because of the proud tradition of dysfunction surrounding him in Jacksonville.
Allen led the team in sacks — a team that also features veteran pass-rushing stars like Calais Campbell and Yannick Ngakoue — despite sliding out of the starting lineup and playing only 60 percent of the team’s defensive snaps. He did so despite transitioning from a standup linebacker at Kentucky to defensive end. Nothing about Allen suggests he’d ever be this good, and he just keeps trashing expectations and delivering monster performances.
youtube
Key stat: Allen’s 10.5 sacks were most among first-year players and a franchise rookie record. His 3.1 percent sack rate was better than veterans like Za’Darius Smith, Cameron Jordan, Joey Bosa, and Danielle Hunter.
1. Nick Bosa, 49ers
Bosa has lived up to the family name (and his No. 2 draft slot) in his first season in the NFL. The former Ohio State star overcame an early injury to become a dominant force in San Francisco’s pass rush, which finished among the league’s top three in sack rate.
He’s also petty as hell, and it’s delightful.
youtube
Bosa got his revenge for Baker Mayfield’s collegiate flag-planting by harassing the Browns quarterback without reprieve. The rookie had two sacks, five quarterback hits, two hurries, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery while playing just 37 snaps in his signature game of 2019. He’s had others that have been nearly as great, including:
three sacks and an interception against the Panthers
four tackles for loss against Washington, and
two QB hits and a tackle for loss in a vital showdown with the Saints
And while postseason games won’t be counted in the rookie of the year vote, he had three sacks in the 49ers’ easy playoff wins over the Vikings and Packers this winter.
He’s been a massive cog in San Francisco’s defensive machine. The Niners rank first in the NFL in passing defense, second in total yards allowed, and have held opponents to eight points or fewer four times this season.
Key stat: 8.5 percent. That’s how often San Francisco’s opponents got sacked each time they dropped back to pass in 2019. Bosa, with nine sacks, 25 QB hits, and 68 pressures, has been the most productive member of that elite group.
Allen has the better numbers in fewer snaps, while Bosa’s been the more relied-upon defender for the better team. It’s a tough call, but the 49er likely has the edge when it comes to rookie of the year votes compared to his perpetually overlooked counterpart. Especially after helping propel San Francisco to the Super Bowl.

Lamar Jackson Unanimously Wins M.V.P. Award
MIAMI — Lamar Jackson’s stunning season not only earned him The Associated Press N.F.L. Most Valuable Player Award, but he won it unanimously.
The second-year quarterback of the Baltimore Ravens joins Tom Brady in receiving every vote for an M.V.P. award.
Jackson drew all 50 votes from a nationwide panel of media members who regularly cover the league. Baltimore’s All-Pro set an N.F.L. single-season rushing record for quarterbacks (1,206) and led an offense that compiled more yards on the ground (3,296) than any in a 16-game season. The Ravens won their final 12 games of the regular season to finish 14-2, the league’s best mark.
Brady achieved the feat after the 2010 season. And like Brady, Jackson’s special season did not include a championship after the Titans upset Baltimore in the Divisional Round.
The Ravens were big winners at the N.F.L. Honors on Saturday. John Harbaugh won coaching honors, and his offensive coordinator, Greg Roman, was named best assistant.
Tennessee’s Ryan Tannehill won the Comeback Player award by one vote over Jimmy Garoppolo, who will quarterback the 49ers in Sunday’s Super Bowl. New Orleans’ Michael Thomas took the top offensive player honor, while New England’s Stephon Gilmore grabbed the defensive player award.
Rookie honors went to 49ers edge rusher Nick Bosa and Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, the top pick in last year’s draft.
Jaguars defensive lineman Calais Campbell won the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which recognizes players for impacting their communities.
Thomas became only the second wide receiver to win Offensive Player of the Year. The other receiver to take the honor was the Hall of Famer Jerry Rice in 1987 and 1993.
While Rice holds virtually every significant N.F.L. receiving record, Thomas has one that made a huge difference with the voters. Thomas caught a league-record 149 passes for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns. He also played five games without starting quarterback Drew Brees, yet made 42 catches in those outings.
“It was just consistency and following our leader, Drew Brees. He’s been a tremendous example for everyone across the league,” Thomas said. “I don’t take that for granted. I take notes on how he prepares.”
Thomas added: “Honestly, it’s hard for me to even pat myself on the back without patting the people around me on the back, because they’ve helped me tremendously.”
Gilmore is the first cornerback in a decade to win Defensive Player of the Year.
Considered one of the game’s best cover cornerbacks, the All-Pro made his eighth pro season his best with a career-high six interceptions that tied for the N.F.L. lead. Gilmore was a key member of the league’s stingiest defense in 2019; New England allowed 225 points in winning an 11th straight A.F.C. East title.
“Each and every week, I feel like I’m going against the best receivers every game, and I was able to shut them down as much as I can,” Gilmore said. “That’s tough being on an island, tough playing a lot of man-to-man coverage each and every week, but I feel like I did that every week.”
For leading the Ravens to the N.F.L’.s best record, Harbaugh joined his brother Jim (2011) as a Coach of the Year winner.
“I joke with the players all the time, you know, we’re robbing the same train,” he said. “This is a blessing. This is a privilege to be part of this whole thing. You get a chance to coach players like Mark Ingram, Lamar Jackson, Ronnie Stanley — all the guys we have, it’s just something you can’t take for granted.”
Tannehill noted that being named Comeback Player of the Year is a mixed blessing.
“It’s an honor you never want to be up for, but it’s an honor to be recognized, and you had to overcome a lot of adversity,” he said. “To get this point, it’s special.”
Bosa, the second draft choice over all behind Murray, was such a force on the edge of the 49ers’ line that he even received votes for the All-Pro team at a very competitive position.
Bosa’s nine sacks were the fourth most for a 49ers rookie. He was third in the N.F.L. with 68 pressures, according to SportsInfo Solutions, trailing only the Saints’ Cameron Jordan and the Vikings’ Danielle Hunter, and his 16 tackles for a loss tied him for fifth in the league.
Murray joined other former No. 1 overall selections, like Earl Campbell and Cam Newton, as an offensive rookie winner. The fast, elusive and creative quarterback is the sixth such player; Newton was the most recent, in 2011, one year after Sam Bradford did it. The others were running backs Campbell (1978), Billy Sims (1980) and George Rogers (1981).
Murray started all 16 games, going 5-10-1 with 20 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions. He ran for 544 yards and four more scores.
“I think everybody sets out with individual goals and I knew if I played well enough — that’s not obviously the goal — but it was to do my part on the field,” Murray said.
“Lead my guys to wins and try to play as best as I can while being in the position to do so, and I had a lot of help around me,” he continued.
Results were announced at N.F.L. Honors, the league’s annual awards show.

New Post has been published on http://bleedbigblue.com/who-will-the-giants-draft-in-round-1/
Who Will the Giants Draft in Round 1?
Barring trades, the Giants will pick 6th overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. Coming off a 5-11 season which saw them finish with the 13th-most efficient offense, 24th-most efficient defense, and a -43 point differential (fifth-worst in the NFC), there are a number of holes that need to be filled.
Which one will GM Dave Gettleman fill first?
Quarterback is the biggest need
Eli Manning turned 38 last week and he wasn’t good when he was 37. Manning finished the 2018 season with a 92.4 passer rating, which was 21st in the league and below all of Ryan Tannehill, Derek Carr, and Mitchell Trubisky.
Concerningly, his 2018 performance was actually a huge improvement over his 2017 season (80.4 passer rating).
There are few left in Big Blue Nation that don’t consider QB the biggest area of need this offseason; there’s no reason that an offense with Saquon Barkley, Odell Beckham Jr, Evan Engram, and Sterling Shepard should be 16th in PPG.
The orchestra needs a new maestro and Gettleman knows it.
Problem is, the young maestros available in the 2019 draft don’t know how to handle their batons very well. Justin Herbert’s decision to return to Oregon took away the best QB prospect from a thin crop.
There is one light shining in this dank, dark quarterback tunnel, however.
When Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins declared for the draft, he immediately became the best QB prospect available – and he’s the only pivot with an outside shot at being the #1 overall pick according to SportsBettingDime.com.
But that brings us to problem #2; the Giants are picking behind the Raiders and Buccaneers, two teams that may be in the market for a new QB. When you factor in the frequency with which teams trade-up for quarterbacks, and then realize that the Jaguars (no. 7), Broncos (no. 10), and Dolphins (no. 13) wouldn’t have to move up very far to leapfrog the Giants, the potential for Haskins to be gone before the Giants are on the clock is pretty high.
If Haskins is available at no. 6, or if the Giants move up themselves, there’s a good chance Gettleman makes him the QB of the future. If Haskins is gone, it’s more likely that Gettleman waits on a QB, because the secondary QB prospects are not worth anything close to the 6th-overall pick.
If the Giants Pass on a QB, Expect an Edge Rusher
The team finished 20th in pass rushing according to Pro Football Focus and wound-up second-last in the NFL in sacks last year with just 30. No one on the team had more than Olivier Vernon’s 7.0, meaning no one on the team ranked in the top 30 in the league for sacks.
Making matters worse, Vernon is set to earn over $15 million next year, significantly more than the Vikings’ Danielle Hunter ($9.4M, 14.5 sacks), the Saints’ Cameron Jordan ($8M, 12.0 sacks), and even the Jaguars’ Calais Campbell ($12M, 10.5 sacks) who led the league in sacks in 2017.
Vernon’s salary far outweighs his impact on the field (he’s never had more than 8.5 sacks with New York) and the Giants may cut him, eating $8 million in dead cap.
Either way, they need to get more pressure on opposing QBs, and this draft is stacked with edge rushers.
Some will argue that offensive line is a bigger need, but the reality is that both are huge concerns and the edge rushers available at no. 6 will likely be better than the offensive linemen. That’s especially true if Jonah Williams (OT, Alabama) goes in the top five. No other offensive lineman is a sure-fire first-rounder.
At edge rusher, on the other hand, Nick Bosa (Ohio State), Josh Allen (Kentucky), Clelin Ferrell (Clemson), and Rashan Gary (Michigan) all have top-ten talent.
Nick Bosa will be gone in the top-three, barring an injury between now and the draft, and there’s little chance Allen drops to no. 6. But Ferrell and Gary could both potentially be available and would be immediate improvements to the NYG front-seven.
How do you think the Giants should use the 6th-overall pick? Let us know in the comment section, below.
