Fibroids & Endometriosis Symptoms Can Be Very Dangerous
Over the years, we have seen countless patients who were told their pain was just in their head, so that when they come to see us, it’s been years of being under or misdiagnosed. Symptoms caused by complex GYN conditions like endometriosis and fibroids can be severe, and early treatment is important.
Tumblr media
When it comes to endometriosis, it can cause a great deal of damage to the reproductive system. The disease and the resulting pain can be managed, while monitoring to minimize the risks of infertility.
Fibroids are very common, affecting about 80% of all women by age 50. While symptoms are often dismissed and the “watch and wait” approach is recommended by many professionals, fibroids can be dangerous. Large fibroids can distort the uterus, affecting a woman’s chances to get pregnant and carry to term.
Learn more about chronic pain from GYN conditions, and the latest advancements in diagnosis & treatment, in this recent CIGC article shared by WTOP News: The silence & stigma of period pain: fibroids, endometriosis can destroy a woman’s life.
Advanced surgical specialists at CIGC Dr. Paul MacKoul and Dr. Natalya Danilyants, and CIGC-trained physician Dr. Rupen Baxi use advanced laparoscopic techniques to treat complex GYN conditions. Women recover in less than 2 weeks after GYN surgery, with less pain. For patient feedback, visit our patient spotlight section or doctor review sites: Dr. Paul MacKoul Reviews |  Dr. Natalya Danilyants Reviews | Dr. Rupen Baxi Reviews.

Endometriosis Excision Surgery
Endometriosis is a complex GYN condition that can take over a woman’s life. Surgical management can relieve the pain, and can improve the quality of life when it is performed correctly. CIGC surgeons Dr. Natalya Danilyants and Dr. Paul MacKoul, and CIGC-trained physician Dr. Rupen Baxi use the DualPortGYN technique to perform thorough endometriosis excision. Two 5 mm incisions are used, and women recover in 1 week.
Tumblr media
Given the complexity of this GYN condition, seeking specialty care is important.A surgeon who has performed a high volume of endometriosis excision surgeries and is trained to diagnose & efficiently treat the condition, is able to provide better surgical outcomes. Read about endometriosis excision recovery in this recent blog.
Read the story of a CIGC endometriosis patient, who has been living with endometriosis symptoms for the last 10 years, and finally found relief at CIGC: Nissa’s Journey. You can also find testimonials from CIGC patients online, on doctor review sites: Dr. Natalya Danilyants Reviews |  Dr. Paul MacKoul Reviews | Dr. Rupen Baxi Reviews.
If you would like to speak to a CIGC specialist about surgical management of endometriosis, call 888-SURGERY or reach out online. Women residing outside the Washington DC area, can look into out travel program.

Hysterectomy Awareness Month: Get The Facts
During hysterectomy awareness month, CIGC is committed to educate women about the best and least invasive options for GYN care. Hysterectomy surgery can provide relief from complex GYN conditions like large fibroids and adenomyosis. It is however often recommended by medical professionals in situations when the uterus can actually still be preserved for fertility. Women should get to know their options before committing to a specific procedure or surgical approach. They should always seek the opinion of a GYN specialist when hysterectomy is recommended as surgical treatment.
Tumblr media
Although hysterectomy is a fairly common procedure, 7 in 10 women incorrectly believe that it entails removal of the uterus, cervix and ovaries. The reality is with a standard hysterectomy, the ovaries are preserved. More about what hysterectomy entails in this blog: Your Hysterectomy Surgery: What About The Ovaries?
The Center for GYN Care physicians Dr. Paul MacKoul and Dr. Natalya Danilyants and CIGC trained physician Dr. Rupen Baxi use the innovative DualPortGYN approach to perform minimally invasive hysterectomy with only two 5 mm incisions and recovery is 1 week.

Hysterectomy Surgery: How To Recover Faster
A uterus removal procedure (hysterectomy) may be recommended to relieve severe GYN symptoms such as heavy menstrual bleeding or pelvic pain. The surgical approach is important, as it has a direct impact on how the patient recovers. There are several options for hysterectomy surgery, and final outcome depends on the skill of the surgeon, placement of the incisions and technique used for removal of the uterus.
Tumblr media
QUESTIONS TO ASK
Women are often hesitant to question their OBGYN when it comes to the surgical approach used to perform a hysterectomy. The reality is surgery, particularly laparoscopic surgery, is not the main focus of the regular OBGYN, which means their surgical volume is very limited.
Before undergoing hysterectomy surgery, research your options, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Focus on the following areas:
Surgical Volume: How many hysterectomies has your physician performed?
Surgical Approach: How invasive will the surgery be and what is the expected recovery time?
Hospital Stay: How long is the procedure and will there be a hospital stay?
Fellowship Training: Is your physician fellowship trained in minimally invasive GYN surgery?
Learn more about questions to ask and the importance of the responses, in this CIGC blog: Laparoscopic Hysterectomy Recovery: Choosing The Right Specialist Matters.
When it comes to GYN surgery, volume matters. A GYN specialist has made a commitment to surgery and performs a higher volume of cases, more difficult cases. The techniques learned in training helps complete procedures with lower complication rates. A minimally invasive surgical approach helps women recover faster, with less pain, in an outpatient setting.
Read about current options for hysterectomy surgery, in this blog: Hysterectomy Surgery: A Comparison of Current Techniques
ADVANCED LAPAROSCOPIC TECHNIQUES IMPROVE RECOVERY TIMES
CIGC surgical specialists Natalya Danilyants MD and Paul MacKoul MD, and CIGC-trained physician Rupen Baxi MD use the advanced DualPortGYN technique to perform minimally invasive hysterectomy. This exclusive technique uses two 5 mm midline incisions, allowing for a faster recovery, with less pain (women are back to themselves within 1 week). All procedures are outpatient, so there is no hospital stay.

Pelvic Adhesions and Minimally Invasive Removal at CIGC
A pelvic adhesion is a band of scar tissue that can cause vital organs to become stuck together. Pelvic infections, prior surgery, and endometriosis are all potential causes of adhesions. Pain occurs when these adhesions are particularly thick or interfere with the operation of the organs.
In particular, adhesions may cause internal obstruction of the bowels. Serious, untreated adhesions often result in constipation, bloating, and even infertility.
Tumblr media
Symptoms of Pelvic Adhesions
The smallest pelvic adhesion may be asymptomatic, meaning that women can suffer from them without even realizing it. However, most adhesions cause pain centered on their location in the pelvis. They can also interfere with organ function, which can cause systemic issues and infertility.
The presence of adhesions does not necessarily mean that they are the cause of pain. If a woman has suffered from endometriosis in the past, for example, a full examination must be conducted to ensure the development of uterine cysts and other complications are not to blame for pain.
Pelvic Adhesion Removal at the Center for Innovative GYN Care
CIGC founders Paul MacKoul MD and Natalya Danilyants MD have developed the advanced DualPortGYN laparoscopic technique. DualPortGYN has been successfully applied to thousands of procedures for pelvic adhesion removal, resection of endometriosis, hysterectomy etc. Women recover in 1 week, with less complications and pain, due to the minimally invasive approach.
Call 888-SURGERY or contact the Center of Innovative GYN Care online to get in touch with a CIGC specialist. To learn more about our patients’ experience, visit doctor review sites: Dr. Paul MacKoul Reviews | Dr. Natalya Danilyants Reviews | Dr. Rupen Baxi Reviews. Patient Travels From Indonesia For Advanced Fibroid Removal
“I was about to undertake surgery in Jakarta. Something happened to make me postpone the surgery which gave me more time to understand my options. I was told that I wouldn’t be able to have a less invasive surgery. Having the time to really think about it, I knew I wanted laparoscopic surgery. I looked closer to home, but no one could assure me that it wouldn’t convert to an open surgery. Facing six weeks of recovery from a surgery was not an option for me.” said Dwina, hysterectomy patient at CIGC.
Tumblr media
Open GYN surgery is longer and more invasive, which leads to a more difficult recovery for the patient. Many surgeons end up converting a laparoscopic procedure to open, due to the size of the uterus or complications that may arise. Given the limited options Dwina was given back home, she decided to look beyond her borders in her search for the best fibroid treatment.
The advanced laparoscopic techniques developed by the CIGC founders Dr. Paul MacKoul and Dr. Natalya Danilyants allow for women to recover quicker, with less pain. Fibroids any size can be thoroughly removed with only 2 small incisions, without the risk of converting to open surgery. CIGC surgeons use the DualPortGYN technique for laparoscopic hysterectomy, and women recover within 1 week. The LAAM procedure is a uterus sparing fibroid surgery, for fertility, and women recover within 10-14 days.
TRAVELING TO CIGC FOR ADVANCED GYN SURGERY Dwina reached out to The Center for Innovative GYN Care and made the decision to travel for surgery. Women have traveled to CIGC for advanced GYN surgery from across the United States and from 18 countries around the world. “The conversion rate (at CIGC) is 0, it’s all laparoscopic and for me that is really something that is a wonder, it was the best news ever. Something before that was unattainable, so I was so excited. I had no fear whatsoever.” “The way that CIGC handles out of town patients was very smooth. Everything was handled so professionally, the administration, the documentation, everything went very smoothly for me. I was away for one week, and it was perfect for my mind, because I was able to recover without being interrupted. I came back refreshed. It’s been two months and the surgery doesn’t affect me at all now.”
RECOVERY AFTER SURGERY FOR COMPLEX GYN CONDITIONS
“My case is really special, because it was so big, 28 cm. Dr. MacKoul performed a supracervical hysterectomy. The surgery was even better than I expected. It’s not just that I feel so good, but comparing it to the surgery I had in 1997 for a myomectomy, I know the difference. This time I was almost immediately on my feet. It wasn’t just physical, it was mental. I feel so much better. My total time out of the office included 2+ days of traveling. I was back to the office after about a week.” “I wasn’t prepared for the bonus, I think I dropped about 8 lbs from the surgery. I have my best body ever at 50. It was such a happy ending for me. I can’t say anything but positive things about the experience. It should be easier for others to understand why traveling to CIGC is worth it. Sometimes in life you just have to listen to yourself.”
