Heat Intolerance
This disability pride month I'd like to talk about heat intolerance. Because honestly although it's not the first health issue that presented symptoms in my life. It was the first time I was like "I don't think my body works right".
And honestly given disability pride month is during one of the hottest months in the year. It seems fitting. Especially because there's a lot of disabilities and medications that cause it.
What is heat intolerance?
Simply speaking it's the inability for the body to regulate it's temperatures especially in hot settings to cool itself down.
Why is awareness important?
Because gaslighting people or worse not providing them a place to cool down just because you "feel fine" is extremely fucking dangerous.
What are the medicines that can cause heat intolerance?
Antihistamines (Allergy medications) . Decongestants (Sudafed or any medication that has the D at the end of it). Stimulants (ADHD medications. Steroids. Caffeine.) Beta-blockers (blood pressure medications). Overactive bladder treatment. Psychiatric medications (including but not limited to medications for depression and anxiety). Pain relievers. Antibiotics.
What medical conditions can cause heat intolerance?
EDS (Elhers-Danlos syndrome). Autism. ADHD. Migraines. Brain/spinal-cord injury. Sensory processing disorder. Chronic fatigue syndrome. Endocrin problems. POTS. Menopause. Hypothyroidism. Diabetes. Heart Disease. Multiple sclerosis. Mental health disorders.
What should I do if I suspect I have heat intolerance?
Reduce time outside during hot months. Keep your electrolytes up. Drink plenty of water. Stay out of the sun whenever possible if outside. Be aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
Clothes that are best worn for heat intolerance. Loose lightweight breathable fabrics. Natural fibers. Long sleeves that protect from sunburn as sunburns will increase your risk. Light clothes that reflect light. Wide brimmed hats that shade the face and neck.
Cool. So what are those symptoms I'm supposed you be looking for?
Headaches. Excessive fatigue. Mood changes. Muscle cramping or weakness. Nausea/ vomiting. Rapid heartbeat. Excessive sweating or not sweating at all.
When should I do to the doctor?
If you suspect you have heat intolerance you can go to your PCP to discuss what medications you may be on and what you can do about it. Otherwise, please go to the emergency room if you have symptoms of heat stroke.
This is good information and all but why are you making this post?
To raise awareness. Not just for the people that have it but weren't aware of what it was called. But for all of the idiots that tried to gaslight me when I was in school because I was like "I don't think this is normal. Every time we do our mile run outside I vomit all over the place but other kids aren't doing that."
Also because people always blame me for over heating if I wear long sleeves or pants. I always like to take notes from what people in the middle east wear because they literally live in the excessive heat and spend long hours in the excessive heat. Often in clothing that covers most of their body. They've gotta know what they're doing, right?

More good things the Biden administration is doing: OSHA heat safety rules for workers
Remember when Texas and Florida passed laws preventing local and municipal governments from implementing their own heat safety rules and said that if heat is such a big problem, OSHA should make rules that apply to everyone? If not, NPR can remind you. OSHA has now accepted the challenge, moving much faster than they usually do:
OSHA National News Release U.S. Department of Labor July 2, 2024 Biden-Harris administration announces proposed ruleĀ to protect indoor, outdoor workers from extreme heat WASHINGTON ā The U.S. Department of Labor has released a proposed rule with the goal of protecting millions of workers from the significant health risks of extreme heat. If finalized, the proposed rule would help protect approximately 36 million workers in indoor and outdoor work settings and substantially reduce heat injuries, illnesses, and deaths in the workplace. Heat is the leading cause of weather-related deaths in the U.S. Excessive workplace heat can lead to heat stroke and even death. While heat hazards impact workers in many industries, workers of color have a higher likelihood of working in jobs with hazardous heat exposure. āEvery worker should come home safe and healthy at the end of the day, which is why the Biden-Harris administration is taking this significant step to protect workers from the dangers posed by extreme heat,ā said Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su. āAs the most pro-worker administration in history, we are committed to ensuring that those doing difficult work in some of our economyās most critical sectors are valued and kept safe in the workplace.ļæ½ļæ½ļæ½ The proposed rule would require employers to develop an injury and illness prevention plan to control heat hazards in workplaces affected by excessive heat. Among other things, the plan would require employers to evaluate heat risks and ā when heat increases risks to workers ā implement requirements for drinking water, rest breaks and control of indoor heat. It would also require a plan to protect new or returning workers unaccustomed to working in high heat conditions. āWorkers all over the country are passing out, suffering heat stroke and dying from heat exposure from just doing their jobs, and something must be done to protect them,ā said Assistant Secretary for Occupational Safety and Health Douglas L. Parker. āTodayās proposal is an important next step in the process to receive public input to craft a āwin-winā final rule that protects workers while being practical and workable for employers.ā Employers would also be required to provide training, have procedures to respond if a worker is experiencing signs and symptoms of a heat-related illness, and take immediate action to help a worker experiencing signs and symptoms of a heat emergency. The public is encouraged to submit written comments on the rule once it is published in the Federal Register. The agency also anticipates a public hearing after the close of the written comment period. More information will be available on submitting comments when the rule is published. In the interim, OSHA continues to direct significant existing outreach and enforcement resources to educate employers and workers and hold businesses accountable for violations of the Occupational Safety and Health Actās general duty clause, 29 U.S.C. Ā§ 654(a)(1) and other applicable regulations. Record-breaking temperatures across the nation have increased the risks people face on-the-job, especially in summer months. Every year, dozens of workers die and thousands more suffer illnesses related to hazardous heat exposure that, sadly, are most often preventable. The agency continues to conduct heat-related inspections under its National Emphasis Program ā Outdoor and Indoor Heat-Related Hazards, launched in 2022. The program inspects workplaces with the highest exposures to heat-related hazards proactively to prevent workers from suffering injury, illness or death needlessly. Since the launch, OSHA has conducted more than 5,000 federal heat-related inspections. In addition, the agency is prioritizing programmed inspections in agricultural industries that employ temporary, nonimmigrant H-2A workers for seasonal labor. These workers face unique vulnerabilities, including potential language barriers, less control over their living and working conditions, and possible lack of acclimatization, and are at high risk of hazardous heat exposure.

Blacking your victims eye
A rack focused "how to" guide
Step 1: brace tour victims head. As ive said before, the real risk with hits to the head are concussions and neck injuries. So pin them to the ground, push them up against a wall, grab them firmly by the hair, whatever, just make sure they're not gonna get whiplash.
Step 2: hit them, carefully. A black eye is bleeding in the tissue surounding the eye, you dont actually want to damage their eye at all. For my money slapping is the easiest and most enjoyable. If you place your pam over your eye youll feel that the raised parts of your palm line up nicely with your eye socket leaving your eye almost untouched. Plus with a slap you can really let loose, hit them as hard as you can theres very little risk so long as their neck is supported. Punching is also good, your fist is wider than their eye socket so you can probably hit the socket withput hitting their eye so long as their eyes arent set to far forward and you knuckles arent too big. You are hitting bone so be careful you dont break your hand. Dark hourse pick: knee, put them on their knees grab the back of their head and slam it into your knee. Any impliment will work but when you put your foot on the side of their head and swing at them with a golf club just make sure youre careful not to hot their eye, and be careful not to hit so hard that you fracture the bone.
Aftercare. Fluids, snacks, rest, and emotional support as always. Black eyes will heal themselves in time but there are things to look out for. Bruising and a possibly a bloodshit eye are normal, bleeding inside the eye is a serious medical emergency. Any changes to vision i.e. sustained blurryness, double vision, etc. Severe eye pain or heaches that wont go away, nausia and dizzyness, fainting, blood somewhere it shouldnt be. All of those are signs something is wrong and you should get them to a doctor.
Dont ice it. Do not. Yes it will reduce swelling yes it will feel a bit better. But swelling is a normal and important part of the healing process and inhibiting the swelling will slow down the healing
Do give them pain meds as needed.

spencer keeps his movements subtle and slow, not pulling any attention to the two of you. the tension is almost palpable, and you truly hope nobody notices, but the people in this car are bold enough to say something if they do.

While his ancestors were devoted to preying on virile men, Steveāa young succubusāchose to settle in Hawkins for a chance at a normal life.
Given his innate charm, he had become the top dog on his first day at school and reigned his subjects with an iron fist. That meant; no bullies nonsense, no ostracized students, and no making fun of less-privileged people.
Steve wasnāt a saint, mind you, but he always did what he deemed right, and reducing the high-school teenage toxicity helped assuage his headaches.
On the other hand, to cover up his tracks with some of the men (he had selected carefully) in the town, he played up the whole rich spoiled brat who had absent parents and was a womanizer part.
And for a long time, it worked.
It worked so well that Steve had become careless and slipped up.
After putting Nancy into a vivid dream of them having sex, he scented something foul and immediately knew there was a trespasser on his property.
That was how he had gotten to the pool in time to save Barb from a monster that resembled Snatcher.
Unfortunately, Jonathan Byers had caught him beating it on the camera and came begging for his help the following day.
Since Steveās bleeding heart couldnāt take it, he ended up rescuing Will from the hellhole full of Snatcher-like creatures and flower-faced carnivores.
Naively, he had thought it was the end of it. But somehow, the Byers decided he was a part of them after he brought their youngest back from the underworld and always invited him over for dinner.
(Steve had shyly admitted to Joyce that it was kind of nice to have home-cooked meals with so many people for once. He had become the Byersā permanent guest ever since then.)
Thanks to Will, he got to know The Party, learned about secret government labs and experimented children, and was dragged kicking and screaming into the Upside Down fiasco by the goddamm maternal instinct he had for those gremlins.
(He guessed the list also included Nancy, Barb, Jonathan, Joyce Byers, and even Jim Hopper.)
Fast forward to S4 where everything derailed and went south so rapidly that Steve didnāt have time to respite. It resulted in his power being drained after having healed most of the batās bites and injuries he sustained.
Since they were on the run, his options were sort of limited, and although it would risk raising more suspicion on himself, Steve didnāt think Eddie would have the energy to mull over it too long once he was done.
Meanwhile, Eddie was perplexed and aghast when Steve Harrington pulled him to the back of the camper when no one noticed and proceeded to blow his brain the fuck out.
Eddie nearly combusted and died right then when Steve looked up at him through those pretty lashes, nuzzling his thigh and thanking him softly.
The sight went straight into Eddieās spank bank and he didnāt even feel guilty about it. If anything, it just fueled his determination to kill Vecna so he could spend more time with his boy.
Much much later when everyone made it out alive and Eddie survived his horrible not-good spring break, he finally learned about Steveās secret and offered the succubus a lifetime deal.
Eddie would be Steveās personal charger for as long as he lived.
In response, Steve had jumped his bone right at that moment and didnāt stop until midnight.
Eddie had half a mind to worry about his kidney's welfare, but he soon decided it was future-Eddieās problem. Present-Eddie was blissfully balls deep in Steveās sweet hole and couldnāt care less.
