Slunj, located in the Kordun region, is a town first mentioned during feudal times; the area where the river spreads into branches and cascades into waterfalls is called Rastoke, a term that refers to the travertine formations of the area. The waterfall occurs where the Slunjčica River joins the Korana River. Mills and attached dwellings have been present since at least the 17th century. During the period when the Ottoman Empire expanded up into Europe, Slunj was within the no-man's-land where the Austro-Hungarian Empire met the Ottoman Empire.

With the action of the two rivers Korana and Slunjčica there was created the area where the picturesque village of Rastoke was built. What Rastoke makes famous are the numerous mills used for grinding grain from nearby villages and beautiful houses built in the traditional style.Every season tells another story and gives a different look to Rastoke.Although heavily affected by the war in the 1990s, with the help of government, Rastoke have been successfully restored and are continuing to develop more and more. #Tours2Go #ToursToGo
Some houses at Rastoke are located above the watercourses. These two are of traditional wood and masonry construction, with extended roofs covering external stairs and galleries on the upper, living floors.
