I sincerely believe Jon started having a crush on Martin in season 2 actually. It's been my own personal experience with asexuality that I sometimes have a difficult time distinguishing being nervous because I have a crush on someone and nervous because their vibes give me the ick. I'm sure my being autistic/somewhat alyxthemic has much to do with this difficulty. Given that Jon is canonically asexual, and is easily and frequently headcanoned as autistic, I would not be surprised if the autistic asexual paranoid tripple whammy would cause Jon to interpret his nervousness around Martin as being a suspicious type when really it's of a crush type. I can picture him realizing soon after he finds out that Martin was just lying about his credentials. Like "I was relieved when learned that Martin was only lying about his resume. I thought this would settle the tension between us, but I still get nervous whenever I'm around him, or thinking about him. Fidgetting, stuttering, increased heart rate, blushing and oh no."

dear malevolent podcast fans, why does no one ever talk about john and kayne and their whole dynamic . not even necessarily ship dynamic. no one talks about them NEARLY as much as we should be.
do you guys ever think about how whenever arthur and kayne have their weird gay shit going on, john is the one Witnessing it? arthur can't even see kayne's gay ass. JOHN can though. and he DOES. do you guys ever think about that. how he's forced to watch that?
do you guys ever wonder about what exactly happened with the whole deal to get john out of the dark world? why did kayne say uhh "the things you did to make this deal happen" . WHAT things? did kayne make john give him a little kissy? like did john have to massacre millions? theres so much to be explored here guys come on why aren't we talking about them more
they have such a weird freaky power dynamic and no ones even talking about it. it doesnt NEED to be like a ship thing. just in general. BUT ALSO do they even have ??? a ship name??? these are two of the main characters of the podcast guys. i know we all care about arthur sooooo much but..... but what about them.......

I’ve done it again. I’ve joined another fandom and immediately fallen in love with an unpopular ship that starves me of content. But I can’t help it if Oliver Banks and Gerard Kaey are so perfect for each other.
Post Mortem lovers?
A sweet lil dead goth and the avatar of the End? -These edge lords match each others’ freak don’t lie to me. They would treat each other well, we all know it.
Canon divergence who? You can’t prove Gerry doesn’t hang out with Oliver as a ghost, is all I’m saying~
-
Gerry: Life is just one crotch kick after another.
Oliver: Hell yeah it is, that’s why we don’t have one. Let’s go get a sandwich.
Gerry: I thought you didn’t need to eat food anymore.
Oliver: Yeah, but I like sandwiches.
-
Oliver: -And this is the weird Tarot Magic shop I work at.
Gerry: Do you just sit around and fortune tell people’s deaths all the time?
Oliver: Mostly they just buy rocks as a coping mechanism
Gerry: We should merge this with my haunted bookshop, then we’ll really have the creepy local Cryptid vibe on lock.
Oliver: You’re ridiculous.
-
They both just need someone laid back to sit on the couch with.

a malevolent fanart? on a blog with a malevolent reference in the username? it may seem unlikely.
(doctor who quote my beloved)
[id: a coloured image of arthur lester from malevolent, drawn waist up. he is a white man with short brown hair and a moustache, wearing a white shirt with some red splashes. his skin is covered in scars which resemble cartoonish yellow stars and his left pinky is wooden. he is gently kissing his left hand while standing half-turned back to the viewer. next to him a text in big white letters reads “do you think i care for you so little that betraying me would make a difference?”. the background is yellow. end id]

Ryan did a bunch of interviews recently that I've been reading and I have some thoughts. You can find the interviews here and here.
There's a lot of terrible stuff in it but I don't have the time or inclination to bother with all that. I'm going to be focusing on two things he said in the interviews.
Starting with this from the House of the Dragon podcast which I've linked above.
Tumblr media
In it, Ryan talks about why he decided to contrast the lives of Hugh Hammer and Ulf the White with the lives of the privileged Targaryens. It was fascinating to get a peek into his head.
Ryan reads a rapist and thinks "this is a person worth deepening. We need an in-depth exploration of what goes on in this rapists head. We need the audience to sympathise with them."
Which wouldn't be so bad on its face, there's always room to analyse a fictional rapist. The problem is that he then reads about a little Black girl who raised herself on a tiny island rising up to become a dragon rider on her own merit. A little girl whose Valyrian heritage is constantly debated and discounted. He reads that and decides that there's nothing worth exploring there. Her story isn't unique. She isn't unique. In fact, she's so common that while we adapt and humanise not one but two rapists, we're going to erase one Black girl and turn the other into everyone's punching bag.
Then I read his puff piece from Big Think.
Tumblr media
This is a fascinating glimpse into his thought process. I read this and Ryan Condal's baffling decisions began to make a little more sense.
By his own admission, Ryan's ideal show is one where Black women are erased, flattened and ignored. He claims to write powerful women but we've not seen hide or hair of these women. In Ryan's show, nothing is ever deliberate and the women are largely passive participants in their own lives.
In Ryan's ideal show there's no room for a little black girl to claim a dragon with nothing but faith and her wits. In Ryan's ideal show we need all of the rapist men but the Black women are interchangeable AND replaceable.
In Ryan's ideal world, it is too much to ask that a Black girl be adored, have songs written about her and knights joust for her favour. In Ryan's ideal show, Black people aren't fully developed characters, they're props that he forgets about for episodes on end.
And that is why the show will continue to drop in ratings. When I saw the Nielsen numbers for the premiere, I laughed until I cried. The biggest streaming day ever for Max and they couldn't beat The Boys or Your Honour. The most recent numbers are even funnier.
But don't worry gang, House of the Dragon is doing great. It's now number three. It finally beat a four year old show! Everything is fine.

every time people talk about whats ‘canon’ or not its so obvious that little to none of mcyt fans have actually played/done roleplay on a minecraft server(or similar situation) themselves
Like girl the ‘timeline’ is whatever you want it to be for your character. Show up to whatever events you want. Maybe you play every day or maybe you log in once a month. Who gives a shit lol we are here to have fun.
and i very much think fans need to keep in mind this same mentality. Continuity is nice and good but also its whatever the roleplayers want their story to be. And no matter what continuity errors this could cause for the overall story I have genuine faith that these guys can Yes-And their way out of any situation. And for fans making fan content you can make the timeline whatever you want. The world is your oyster. Literally who gives a shit.

Podcast enquiry/form!
Hello! I've created a form about podcast preferences, about the listeners and interests, just to see what kind of similarities and differences various podcast listeners have!
All questions are completely optional.
The results will be collected in in 1 months time, on the 19th of June. After that date, I will send out the results for everyone to see!
Please reblog to spread the word around! I'd ideally like to get this out to as many people as possible!
Edit: added a 7+ option to the "how many podcasts have you listened to" (thanks @/donnovien for the suggestion!)

When I think back on podcasts and books I remember them exactly how I pictured them so it’s like remembering a movie, but I know not everyone’s brain works the same way!

i might be shot but tbh i think fiction podcasts have an issue with racial representation
#monstrous agonies n travelling light have allegory but allegory is still just allegory#mabel n wolf 359 r the only fucking podcasts ive seen in which where someone is from actually affects them#not to mention how many popular audio dramas are made by white people? might just be my experience idk#and they still seemingly have representation bc the fandom draws the characters as poc even if the actor isnt#which would be completely differentif it was tv or smthn#like ofc ppl can draw whatever they want but theres something to that disconnect that is strange to me#also the penumbra approach of actively avoiding race as a theme in the podcast#magnus in general?? they might be improving a little with protocol but i have not seen people addressing it a lot#and of course the cecil palmer effect#this is in large part due to the audio only medium#but its weird to see a medium praised for queer rep have race almost entirely ignored in favor of setting the world in somewhere w/o racism#maybe its bc so much is set in less irl settings so people feel like its more ok to distance themselves from these issues#but still?? for example hallowoods (havent finished it so dont come at me if this changed later in the podcast)#theres the blatant evangelical christianity allegory and all the transphobia n homophobia is dealt with but not white supremacy?#which seems lacking if its trying to criticize that particular sect of christianity#n malevs complete ignorance of lovecraft#and if youre going to set it in the 1920-1930s america why arent you dealing with the time period#just a rant i havent done deep research into this or anything. dont kill me#podcasts
