A rectangular tailings pond changes appearance as waste is pumped in from the nearby Fimiston Open Pit gold mine in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia. Covering about 0.82 square miles (2.1 sq km), this pond is five times the size of the Vatican City and holds millions of tons of tailings â rocks and chemicals left over after gold is extracted. Fimiston, also called âSuper Pit,â is the sixth-deepest open-pit mine in the world, at 1,968 feet (600 m).

Why Most Traders Get It Wrong (And How You Can Avoid It) Alright, picture this: You're standing in the middle of a store, eyeing a pair of shoes that are 50% off. Sounds like a great deal, right? But in your heart of hearts, you know you'll never actually wear them. That's exactly how many traders approach the EUR/CHF pairâthey see a price that looks enticing, jump in without strategy, and then wonder why things went wrong when the price moves like a toddler on a sugar rush. When trading the EUR/CHF, most traders donât really pay attention to the often-overlooked indicators that drive this pair. And let me tell you, thereâs a big difference between casually buying a currency and having ninja-level tactics that make others think youâre some kind of Forex trading clairvoyant. Today, we're diving deep into some game-changing insights youâll wish you knew earlierâand Iâm here to help you avoid buying those metaphorical unused shoes. The RBA Reserve Bank of Australia: The Forgotten Link Now, you might be wondering, what on earth does the RBA have to do with the EUR/CHF pair? After all, we're talking about Europe and Switzerland, right? Well, letâs throw in a curveball. Global liquidity flows are often influenced by central banks that are not directly tied to the currency pair in question. This is where the RBAâyes, the Reserve Bank of Australiaâplays a stealth role. You see, the RBA tends to make key decisions that can ripple through the Forex market in surprising ways. For instance, during risk-on periods (when investors are more confident), the RBAâs dovish stance can pump up market liquidity, leading to a stronger Euro as investors search for yield. On the other hand, a hawkish RBA might trigger risk aversion, making CHF attractive as a safe haven. Understanding this interplay is like discovering the secret passage to a hidden treasure. Most traders miss thisâdonât be that trader. The Hidden Formula Only Experts Use Hereâs a secret many traders overlook: the EUR/CHF pair is largely driven by cross-market hedging strategies. Big financial players often use the Swiss Franc as a hedge against Euro exposure, especially in times of political uncertainty or market volatility. Remember when your favorite TV show dropped a surprise season finale twist? That's exactly how the CHF behaves in uncertain market conditionsâalways full of surprises. To use this to your advantage, try monitoring the yield differentials between German Bunds and Swiss bonds. When thereâs a significant shift in yield, the market often responds by adjusting positions in EUR/CHF accordingly. Essentially, it's like knowing the ending before everyone elseâyou get to trade ahead of the herd. Emotions in Trading: Laughing at Our Mistakes Weâve all been thereâstaring at our screens, wondering why we decided to click 'buy' just as the market decided to pull a complete U-turn. Itâs like showing up to a party right when theyâre about to call it a nightâthe timing is everything, and it's all too easy to get it wrong. But hereâs the thing: Embracing your mistakes and learning to laugh at them is an essential part of growing as a trader. If you've ever hit the wrong button and watched in horror as your trade plummeted, think of it as your "sitcom moment" in trading. Itâs not the mistake that defines youâit's how you get back up, learn from it, and apply those ninja tactics the next time around. How to Predict Market Moves with Precision Letâs get into the good stuff. One highly effective yet overlooked method for predicting EUR/CHF movements is tracking volatility in related pairs like AUD/USD. Sounds odd? Stick with me here. When the RBA announces a decision that shocks the market, the AUD/USD volatility can spill over, impacting overall risk sentiment. This often prompts shifts in EUR/CHF as traders adjust their European risk exposure. Think of it as a ripple effect. Imagine dropping a pebble into a pondâyou may not see the waves at the other end, but they're there, altering the whole surface. The trick here is to position yourself before the ripple even reaches EUR/CHF. Be the pebble, not the duck bobbing along after. Why Divergence Is Your Best Friend If youâre not paying attention to divergence between the Relative Strength Index (RSI) and price, youâre missing out on a highly reliable signal. I canât tell you how many times divergence has saved me from making a terrible trade. It's like having a sixth senseâor maybe just being that friend whoâs always one step ahead. Divergence in the EUR/CHF, especially during times when the RBA is making headlines, provides hidden clues as to what big-money players might be planning. For instance, if the price of EUR/CHF is making new highs while the RSI is flatlining or declining, consider it a flashing neon sign that somethingâs up. The Forgotten Strategy That Outsmarted the Pros When was the last time you used seasonality to make a trade? Yeah, thatâs what I thought. It's one of those strategies that traders hear about, get excited for a hot second, and then promptly forget. But EUR/CHF actually has a strong seasonality pattern that ties in with global liquidity and, believe it or not, RBA policy cycles. Every December, the Swiss Franc tends to strengthen as financial institutions rebalance for year-endâa phenomenon that's as consistent as the holiday rush for last-minute shopping. During this time, the RBAâs positioning around rate cuts or holds can amplify this seasonal move. By understanding the underlying causes, you not only anticipate the pattern, but you also grasp the 'why' behind itâgiving you the confidence to ride the wave. The One Simple Trick That Can Change Your Trading Mindset Letâs take a moment to step back. The biggest misconception in trading EUR/CHF is that you have to focus solely on Europe and Switzerlandâs economic data. But, hereâs the twist: global risk sentiment often plays a much bigger role, and the RBA, despite being on the other side of the globe, is a key player in shaping that sentiment. The next time you feel overwhelmed, just rememberâtrading is about connecting the dots in a way that others canât quite see yet. Picture yourself as the Sherlock Holmes of Forex, piecing together clues from all over the marketâRBA decisions, seasonality, divergence, liquidity flowsâuntil you have the whole picture while others are still figuring out how to spell "EUR/CHF" correctly. Donât Just TradeâOutsmart the Market Trading isnât about guessingâitâs about making educated decisions with the tools and insights others arenât even aware of. The next time you're looking at the EUR/CHF chart, remember the unseen forces at play: RBA policies, cross-market hedging, seasonality, and, of course, that divergence trick. The more you train yourself to spot these opportunities, the more you'll elevate your trading from mere guesswork to calculated, precision-driven ninja moves. And hey, if youâre ready to take it to the next level, why not join our StarseedFX community? Weâve got the resources, insights, and smart tools that make connecting the dots a whole lot easier. Water and Electricity Harvesting in Agriculture
Written By: Jagriti Shahi
Agriculture is the backbone of civilization, but it faces a growing challenge: resource scarcity. Water tables are dropping, and traditional electricity sources can be expensive and environmentally unfriendly. However, innovative solutions are emerging that combine water and electricity harvesting to create a more sustainable future for farming. In an era where sustainable practices are no longer optional but essential, the integration of water and electricity harvesting into agriculture represents a transformative approach. This innovation not only addresses the critical issues of resource scarcity and environmental degradation but also enhances the efficiency and productivity of modern farming. By combining water management and renewable energy generation, farmers can create a more resilient and self-sufficient agricultural system.
Water: The Lifeblood of Agriculture
Water is essential for plant growth, and traditional irrigation methods can be highly water-intensive. Here's where water harvesting comes in. By collecting rainwater and runoff through techniques like ponds, swales, and cisterns, farmers can create a reliable source of irrigation without relying on depleting groundwater reserves. Additionally, drip irrigation systems deliver water directly to the plant roots, minimizing evaporation and waste.
Harnessing the Power of the Sun
Electricity is crucial for powering pumps, lights for greenhouses, and other essential farm equipment. Solar panels offer a clean and sustainable solution. By installing solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, farms can generate their own electricity, reducing dependence on the grid and lowering energy costs.
Agrivoltaics in India
Figure: Certain crops can tolerate moderate shading. - Source: Image: Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE
India is also exploring the concept of agrivoltaics, where solar panels are installed above crop fields. This approach not only generates electricity but also provides partial shade for crops, reducing water evaporation and enhancing crop yields. Projects in states like Gujarat have demonstrated the viability and benefits of this dual-use land approach.
The Synergy of Water and Electricity Harvesting
The beauty lies in the synergy between these technologies. The electricity generated by solar panels can power pumps that utilize harvested rainwater for irrigation. This creates a closed-loop system, minimizing reliance on external resources and promoting environmental sustainability.
Agriculture is heavily dependent on water and energy. Traditionally, these resources have been sourced independently, often leading to inefficiencies and unsustainable practices. However, by harvesting water and electricity in tandem, farmers can optimize their resource use and reduce their environmental footprint.
Water Harvesting Techniques
Figure: Rainwater Harvesting for Agriculture - Source Rainharvesting Systems
Water harvesting involves collecting and storing rainwater or surface runoff for agricultural use. Several techniques can be employed, each suitable for different climates and terrains:
Rainwater Harvesting: Collecting and storing rainwater from rooftops or other surfaces in tanks or reservoirs.
Surface Runoff Harvesting: Capturing runoff from fields and directing it to storage ponds or recharge structures.
Subsurface Water Harvesting: Utilizing techniques like check dams and percolation pits to enhance groundwater recharge.
These methods ensure a reliable water supply, even in arid regions, reducing dependence on erratic rainfall or over-exploited groundwater resources.
Water Harvesting Comparis
The figure provided earlier shows the increase in the use of water harvesting techniques in India, Australia, the USA, and Israel over a 23-year period, from 2000 to 2023. Each percentage value represents the proportion of the population or entities adopting water harvesting techniques as part of water management practices for that respective year.

Managing Liquid Waste Effectively and in Compliance with Codes for Complete Neutralisation
Liquid waste can include several waste products such as sludge, oil, grease, wastewater and hazardous household, commercial or industrial chemicals. Dealing with liquid waste is one of the biggest challenges of urban sanitation. Surface water pollution can occur when liquid waste contaminates a water supply and changes its chemical composition. This can have a grave effect on drinking water supplies and can also disrupt the aquatic ecosystem. Liquid waste can also contaminate soil if not treated and disposed of properly, leading to harmful chemicals infiltrating the soil. This can harm plant growth, as well as humans and animals that might consume contaminated products. Â
Liquid waste services offer a variety of solutions for liquid waste pump out, liquid waste removal and liquid waste disposal, including dewatering, root zone and composting, and incineration. However, whatever method is used, it is important to handle liquid waste disposal in the correct and compliant way.
Cleaning of septic tanks
Septic tanks need to be dislodged when the sludge depth is approximately two-thirds of the depth of the tank. The liquid above the sludge is relatively free of solids but it can contain untreated organic and inorganic chemicals. Fresh, untreated wet sludge poses high risks for human health and so it should not be put on land for use as soil conditioner to grow crops. Liquid waste pump out processes with a vacuum truck are normally used to suck the sludge out for correct disposal.
Liquid waste removal of storm water
For liquid waste removal of stormwater, it should be directed into stormwater drains. In case of prolonged rainfall, a stormwater drain may be unable to cope, leading to flooding. Sustainable drainage systems (SuDS) offer an alternative to large stormwater drains. These are designed to reduce the speed of surface run-off, encourage filtration into the ground and reduce the risk of flooding. Building ponds or holding areas in the drainage system can reduce the speed of stormwater flow, and also make water available for reuse. Instead of concrete, the sides of roads should be paved with gravel or stones. This will help in reducing surface run-off and replenish groundwater.
Solo Resource Recovery offers a host of liquid waste services, including liquid waste removal, and utilise the latest equipment and technologies. They aim to reduce the amount of biodegradable matter and solids in effluent, eliminate pathogenic microorganisms, and remove toxic materials.
Working on customised solutions for liquid waste management
Solo Resource Recoveryâs range of liquid waste services includes industrial wastewater, brackish water, sewage sludge and biomass residues. Solo Resource Recoveryâs trained staff will collect onsite wastewater samples and measure the technical parameters to ensure that all customer needs are understood. Then a customised solution for liquid waste disposal is presented to the client, taking into account their unique liquid waste attributes and spatial constraints. Upon agreeing to an optimal solution, a stationary treatment equipment may be installed if the liquid waste disposal requirement is voluminous. A mobile treatment system may be used for smaller liquid waste removal jobs.
While traditional alternatives require steps that are energy and resource intensive, Solo works on solutions that enable industries, organisations and residences to treat their feedstock on-site and without any additional processing steps, thus saving you time, resources and money.
Regulations require proper liquid waste management
Proper liquid waste management is important for a number of practical and environmental reasons. Organisations in Australia that produce liquid waste are required by law to have a liquid management system in place to properly dispose of it, to minimise harm to environment. Failing to adhere to the regulations may result in steep fines, as well as cancellation of permission to operate in a region. Thatâs why many businesses hire professional liquid waste disposal companies, such as Solo, to dispose of liquid waste in a compliant manner. Many businesses do not internally have the capability, expertise, equipment and knowledge to safely remove, dispose and manage liquid waste, hence the need to leave it to the professionals.
Getting valuable by-products from liquid waste
Solo Resource Recovery uses the right equipment to recover clean water and valuable by-products in its liquid waste services, that would have otherwise been lost during liquid waste removal and disposal processes. Solo has the right equipment, capabilities, and skilled staff, to process every type of wastewater stream, including the high-salt and chemical contents that can be treated to get valuable by-products, such as minerals that can be recycled for use in fertilisers. Solo uses unique properties of liquid wastewater under supercritical conditions that suddenly decreases the solubility of mineral salts, enabling separation of valuable salts from the mainstream.
Offering solutions for complete neutralisation of liquid waste
Each step of a liquid waste services process is adequately monitored until complete neutralization of the customerâs liquid waste is achieved. Contact Solo Resource Recovery for all your requirements related to liquid waste services, such as liquid waste pump out, liquid waste removal and liquid waste disposal. The trusted waste management company provides its liquid waste management and solid waste management services to businesses, industries and residences, all over Australia.

Surface water is all the water we can observe: ponds, streams, rivers, lakes, seas, and oceans. It coats almost three-quarters of the planet. When we imagine water, we usually envision surface water.
Our stores of groundwater, on the other hand, are invisible and vast. Most of this water is stored in the gaps between rocks, sediment, and sandâthink of it like the moisture in a sopping wet sponge. Some groundwater is relatively young, but some represents the remains of rain that fell thousands of years ago. Overall, groundwater accounts for 98 percent of Earthâs unfrozen freshwater. It provides one-third of global drinking water and nearly half of the planetâs agricultural irrigation.
Water is constantly cycling between below-ground stores and the world above. When rain falls or snow melts, some replenishes surface waters, some evaporates, and some filters down into underground aquifers. Inversely, aquifers recharge surface waters like lakes and wetlands, and pop up to form mountain springs or oases in arid lands.
Despite our utter dependence on groundwater, we know relatively little about it. Even within the hydrological community and at global water summits, âgroundwater is kind of sidelined,â Karen Villholth, a groundwater expert and the director of Water Cycle Innovation, in South Africa, told me. Itâs technically more difficult to measure than visible water, more complex in its fluid dynamics, and historically under- or unregulated. It âis often poorly understood, and consequently undervalued, mismanaged and even abused,â UNESCO declared in 2022. âItâs not so easy to grapple with,â Villholth said. âItâs simply easier to avoid.â
Take a crucial U.S. groundwater case, 1861âs Frazier v. Brown. The dispute involved two feuding neighbors and âa certain hole, wickedly and maliciously dug, for the purpose of destroyingâ a water spring that had, âfrom time immemorial, ran and oozed, out of the ground.â Frazier v. Brown questioned the rights of a landowner to subterranean water on the property. Ohioâs Supreme Court ultimately argued against any such right, on the premise that groundwater was too mysterious to regulate, âso secret, occult and concealedâ were its origins and movement. (The case has since been overturned.)
Today, groundwater is still a mystery, says Elisabeth Lictevout, a hydrogeologist and the director of the International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre in the Netherlands. Scientists and state officials often donât have a complete grasp of groundwaterâs location, geology, depth, volume, and quality. Theyâre rarely certain of how quickly it can be replenished, or exactly how much is being pumped away in legal and illegal operations. âToday we are clearly not capable of doing a worldwide groundwater survey,â Lictevout told me. Without more precise data, we lack useful models that could better guide its responsible management. âItâs a big problem,â she said. âItâs revolting, even.â
Water experts are certain, however, that humans are relying on groundwater more than ever. UNESCO reports that groundwater use is at an all-time high, with a global sixfold increase over the past 70 years. Across the planet, groundwater in arid and semi-arid regionsâincluding in the U.S. High Plains and Central Valley aquifers, the North China Plain, Australiaâs Canning Basin, the Northwest Sahara Aquifer System, South Americaâs Guarani Aquifer, and several aquifers beneath northwestern India and the Middle Eastâis experiencing rapid depletion. In 2013, the U.S. Geological Survey found that the country had tripled the previous centuryâs groundwater-withdrawal rate by 2008. Many aquifersâwhich, because they are subterranean, cannot easily be cleanedâare also being contaminated by toxic chemicals, pesticides and fertilizers, industrial discharge, waste disposal, and pumping-related pollutants.
Because these waters are hidden and can seem âinfinite,â Lictevout said, few people âsee the consequences of our actions.â She and other hydrology experts often turn to a fiscal analogy: All of the planetâs freshwater represents a bank account. Rainfall and snowmelt are the income. Evaporation and water pumping are the expenditures. Rivers, lakes, and reservoirs are the checking account. Groundwater is the savings or retirement fundâwhich we are tapping into.
âWe have to be careful about dipping into our savings,â says Jay Famiglietti, an Arizona State University hydrologist and the executive director emeritus of the University of Saskatchewanâs Global Institute for Water Security.

How Pool Removal Can Boost Your Home's Sustainability in Australia
Australia's abundance of swimming pools has been a symbol of leisure and relaxation for decades. As the impacts of climate change become more evident and environmental awareness grows, homeowners are reevaluating their backyard pools' sustainability. This article delves deeper into the various ways pool removal Melbourne can improve your home's eco-friendliness, reduce resource consumption, and provide new opportunities for sustainable living.
Alleviating Pressure on Water Supply
In many parts of Australia, water is a scarce resource, and the water demand continues to rise due to population growth and climate change. By removing your pool, you're actively contributing to water conservation efforts and easing the strain on Australia's water infrastructure. Additionally, removing a pool can reduce water bills significantly.
Decreasing Energy Consumption
The energy necessary to heat and maintain the temperature of your swimming pool throughout the year is not insignificant and can greatly affect your home's carbon footprint. By filling in the pool, you can drastically reduce energy consumption and related bills by eliminating the need for pumps and filters.
Reducing Chemical Waste
In addition to water and energy consumption, pools also require regular cleaning and maintenance with chemical products. These can be hazardous to local wildlife and ecosystems if not used responsibly. By removing your pool, you'll no longer have to buy or use these chemicals and contribute to their environmental impact.
Creating New Opportunities for Sustainable Living
Removing a swimming pool opens up many possibilities for creating a more sustainable living space in the backyard. With the extra room, you could install solar panels, create an edible garden, build compost systems, or even build eco-friendly outdoor structures like decks made of recycled materials. All of these options help reduce resource consumption while providing unique opportunities for eco-friendly home improvement projects.
Lowering Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Pool equipment like pumps, heaters, and lighting systems contribute to greenhouse gas emissions, exacerbating climate change. By eliminating these energy demands, you'll reduce your home's carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner environment.
Promoting Eco-Friendly Pool Alternatives
If you still desire a water feature in your backyard, consider more sustainable options like natural ponds, plunge pools, or even installing a solar-powered pool heating system. These alternatives have a lower environmental impact compared to traditional pools and can still provide enjoyment for your family.
Composting Opportunities
Pool removal can provide an opportunity to create a composting area in your backyard. By composting organic waste, you'll reduce the need for synthetic fertilisers, support healthy soil, and lower methane emissions from decomposing waste in landfills.
Encouraging Local Food Production
The space reclaimed from your pool can be transformed into a productive vegetable garden or orchard, contributing to local food production and reducing your reliance on imported goods. Growing your own food can also help you lower your carbon footprint and minimise the environmental impact of food transportation.
Rain Garden Installation
After removing your pool, consider creating a rain garden in its place. Rain gardens are designed to absorb and filter stormwater runoff, reducing the strain on stormwater systems and improving water quality in local waterways. Native plants and shrubs can be used to create a beautiful, low-maintenance landscape that supports biodiversity.
Educating Future Generations
By choosing to remove your pool and embrace sustainable living, you're setting an example for future generations to follow. Demonstrating eco-conscious practices can inspire friends, family, and neighbours to make similar choices, leading to a greener and more sustainable community.
The decision to remove your pool can have far-reaching benefits for your home's sustainability and the environment. By conserving resources, reducing energy consumption, and providing opportunities for eco-friendly landscaping, you'll contribute to a more sustainable future. As you transform your backyard into an eco-friendly haven, you'll not only enjoy the benefits of a greener lifestyle but also inspire others to follow in your footsteps.

Post fix concept #1- how did gray propose???!
this makes me so đĽş
Indiana barely had time to let out the breath she had been holding before Graysonâs lips were on hers. He pulled her to him by her hip, grateful that there wasnât a barrier between their seats.
âIâm so fucking proud of you.â
Indy smiled, her adrenaline still pumping enough to make her fingers shake as she ran them over his scruff. She rested her forehead against his for a moment, catching her breath as the flight attendant came over the intercom.
âGâday, ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Sydney Australia Airport. Local time is 9:04 am and the temperature is a lovely 29 degrees. For your safety and comfort, please remain seated with your seat belt fastened until the Captain turns off the fasten seatbelt sign.â
â29, what is that, like 85 fahrenheit?â Indy asked, eyes moving to the windows that were opening on the opposite side of the aisle. They revealed a new place, a new world. It felt different somehow. Calm, and welcoming as she looked out over warm tones of brown and the far off ocean.
Grayson looked up the aisle, spotting his brother and Eden in first class, peaking their heads out to look back and check on Indy, no doubt. He threw them a quick thumbs up while Indy wasnât looking. There had been a few moments on the flight heâd missed his usual first class ticket across the pond. But he knew with the wall between the seats, heâd have more trouble getting to Indy if she needed him. So, they went one step down, to the reclining wide seats next to each other in economy plus, big enough for Indy to climb over into his seat and sleep throughout the 15 hour flight if she needed him. Most people were there so long they forgot they were even in the air.
Indy didnât. She slept more than she expected to though, only lulled off by Graysonâs gentle snores in her ear as he held her tight. Her body was confused, but it wasnât anything worse than a hard 12 hour shift at the hospital. Still, her adrenaline from landing made her legs wobble when she stood in the aisle, hard enough for Grayson to stabilize her hips from behind her.
âYou good?â
âYeah, just ready to finally be off a plane,â she chuckled, reaching back to squeeze his fingers as they squeezed her waist. The group walked slowly through the line of people, made it through the airport, got their bags and made it out relatively quickly, and fresh air never smelled sweeter than on the curb before they climbed into their uber.Â
It didnât hit Indy until they were there, scrunched up in the back with her between both the twins and Eden in the passenger seat.
âI did it. I actually fucking did it,â she said to herself. She turned to Grayson with a smile. âWeâre here. Iâm in fucking Australia!â Despite herself, she started to tear up a bit. Somewhere, tucked away, was ten year old Indy, leaping for joy at the fact that sheâd accomplished something she never thought sheâd be able to do.
âHell yeah we are!â Ethan cheered, wrapping an arm around Indyâs shoulder and shaking her just barely. âProud of you sis.â
Indy blinked back her tears and leaned against Grayson, closing her eyes as they made their way to their home for the next week and a half.Â
Grayson held her head against his shoulder for every bump and turn they encountered, turning his head to kiss her hair.Â
His mind? Well, other than keeping his girl comfortable, it was wandering to his bag in the back. Specifically, to a small wooden box that was wrapped up in one of his speedos for safe keeping.Â
A box that Grayson was paranoid that Indy would find every minute that he didnât have his eyes on her. Heâd been so excited to show her his favorite place, and even more excited to have his girlfriend all to himself in a king size bed that he hadnât bothered to find a better hiding spot for it.
It worked out - there wasnât a minute that he didnât want to spend with her anyways. They packed their days with everything adventurous they could think of - snorkeling, beach days, exploring the outback. They went ziplining, and held koalas and pet kangaroos and learned about Australian history and culture.Â
Every night, they found themselves showering off the day together and crawling into bed with just enough energy left to get lost in the rhythm of Graysonâs hips and the sound of their lips on each otherâs skin.Â
Except for the night of September 23rd. That night, Grayson put on his nicest shorts with pockets and slid the ring box into them with shaky hands before he went down the hall to find his brother.Â
Ethan perked up, confused for a moment before he smiled.Â
âTodayâs the day huh?â
âYeah. I think so.â
âYou know so. You sure you donât want me to take pictures or anything?â
âNah, just want it to be us. Iâm fucking scared bro.â
âThat just means you love her. â Ethan stood up and pulled his twin in by the shoulder, giving him a tight hug. âYou got this man. Canât wait to see you all when you get back.â
Grayson nodded and tried to settle his breathing down.Â
It picked right back up when he walked into the room and saw Indy in front of the mirror. She was in a sundress - a short dusty blue number that kissed the tops of her thighs, resting delicately on the curve of her ass while she leaned closer to the mirror to put on her mascara.Â
She smiled when she saw him, finishing quickly and turning around.
âHi baby. Iâm almost ready, just gotta pick out a lipstick.â
âLipstick makes you sticky when I kiss you,â he pouted, making her roll her eyes playfully at him.Â
âFine. Just for you.â She kissed him softly as if to prove her point, humming when he pulled her in by the hips. She melted against him for a moment, getting lost in his like she always did before her mind wandered back to her.Â
âWeâre gonna be late to our reservations.â
âI made them for later. Wanted to show you something first.â
Indy was never one for surprises growing up, but the nervous excitement was welcomed now. She knew she could trust him, wholly, with anything. So she slid her shoes on took his hand and let him lead her to the car.Â
She bit her tongue when she wanted to ask where they were going, what they were doing. But it didnât stop the worry when she pressed her fingers into Graysonâs wrist in the car, pausing the hearts she was tracing.
âYour pulse is 104. Are you good?â
âOkay human apple watch,â he laughed, pulling his arm away from her dramatically for a moment before giving it right back. âIâm fine baby. Maybe you just make my heart race.â
Indy snorted. âYou wanna pull over for me to throw up or should I just do it out the window as weâre going.â
She kissed the back of his hand as they laughed.
Grayson on the other hand was 99% sure he was the one who would puke when he put the rental car in park.Â
Indy cocked her head to the side for a moment. Then she craned her neck up, trying to see over the embankment.Â
âIs the restaurant down there somewhere.â
In a moment of panic, Grayson raced to put his hand over her eyes, hitting her nose in the process.
âOkay ow?â Indy muttered.
âFuck, sorry, sorry baby.â He leaned over and pressed a fleeting kiss to her temple. âJust close your eyes, I want it to be a surprise. Donât open them until I say.â
âYou coulda just said that,â Indy grumbled as Grayson got out of the car and went to her side. He pulled her door open, heart pounding so loud he was sure she could hear it when he leaned over to unbuckle her seatbelt.Â
âOkay, come out here.â
He guided her out of the car to stand up, putting his hands on her shoulders. He looked at her shoes - dainty sandals - and then at the thick sand they would have to get through to get to where he wanted on the beach. On the horizon, the sun was setting, painting the sky in shades of purple and pink. Avalon was the most beautiful beach heâd ever been to, and he knew it would only be even more special after that night.
âGet on my back.â
âHuh?â
âJust jump on my back,â he said, turning around and putting her hands on his shoulders.
âMy ass will be fully out in this dress if I do that,â she countered.
âIâll cover it with my hands or something, just jump.â
âSo demanding,â she teased, but she jumped anyways. He smoothed the fabric down over her butt and held her up as he moved through the sand to the lookout he had in mind.
She rested her chin on his shoulder as he walked, eyes still squeezed shut.
âI hear the ocean,â she hummed, already content.Â
When he got to where he wanted, with the perfect view of the beach, he closed his eyes for a moment and sent a prayer up to all his angels that he would find the right words to say.Â
He sat her down gently on her feet and moved behind her, pulling the box out of his pocket. Slowly, he knelt down, watching her dress blow in the wind.Â
âOkay, open.â
Indy opened her eyes. The sun burned for a moment, and then she took it all in. The water was a painting of bright hues, reflected back off the sunset that tinted the clouds. The beach was pristine, fine white sand laying perfectly for as far as she could see in either direction.
âOh wow. This place is perfect.â
And then she turned around.Â
The ring caught the fading light, sparkling in itâs little box lined with velvet. His smile was brighter. And nervous, more nervous than sheâd seen it in so long. She watched him swallow as he looked up at her.
âOh my god.â She covered her mouth, her legs feeling like jello beneath her.Â
âIndiana-â
He forgot his entire speech in the moment, and it didnât matter.Â
âI love you. I knew I wanted you to be a part of my life from the first day that I met you. And then I fell in love with you, and I knew I was going to love you for the rest of my life, no matter what. I want everything, all of it. The wedding and the honeymoon and the kids and the good days and the hard days and the days when weâre old and gross but we still have each other. I want forever with you, and for me, marriage is the promise for that. And you have me, forever, no matter what. So... Indiana Jamie Cross... will you marry me?â
âYes. A million times yes.â
She couldnât kiss him fast enough. She crouched, cupping his face in both her hands as he stood up, desperate to have him. He wrapped his arms around her waist, spinning her around and sending sand flying that neither of them noticed as they laughed with tearful eyes.Â
indy was dizzy when he sat her down, hands shaking as he held up the box again. The ring was beautiful and delicate, with thin gold all the way around the stone.
âI got it custom. And I had them round out the top and bottom edges just a little bit so it doesnât get caught on your gloves at work,â he explained.Â
âI love you so much. Forever,â she whispered, kissing him again just because she could. He breathed her in, squeezing her again before he pulled back and reached for her left hand, sliding the ring on, letting out a relieved sigh when it fit.Â
âOh my god that really just happened,â Indy whispered, and all they could do was laugh and hold each other as it sank in.Â
Gray kissed her hair. âNo going back now, you already said yes.â
She smacked his shoulder playfully, admiring the way the ring caught the light when she did. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, nuzzling into her hair as the swayed back and forth, soaking in the moment.
âAlso, sad news. I totally lied about the reservation, and Ethanâs contribution is cooking dinner tonight. So we might be celebrating our engagement with food poisoning.âÂ
Indy laughed into his shirt. âWell hey, at least if weâre puking our guts out later weâre doing it as fiancees.â The word felt foreign but somehow electrifying coming off her tongue.Â
âFuck yeah we are. You ready to go home, or do you wanna stay another minute.â
âJust a few more minutes. I wanna remember this forever.â
Gray smiled his brightest smile and kissed her slow and warm before wrapping her up again, closing his eyes as they held each other again.
Against his back, through his shirt, he felt her finger move.Â

A/N: Â This fic was written pre-Infinity War. Â So while it follows canon for a while, it then veers off wildly at the end.
The Morning After
You wake up engulfed from behind by large arms. Â The room is filled with light and you open your eyes glancing at your clock. Â 10.30. Â Decent sleep in, in the end. Â Steve stirs beside you. Â His grip tightens around your body, pulling you against him. Â He nuzzles his face into your hair and presses his hips against you. Â Heâs hard and his erection pushes against your ass.
âGood morning.â Â You say. Â You run your fingers down his forearms, tracing your fingertips over the prominent veins that lead down to his hands.
He hums and his hands start roaming over your body. Â You donât want him to stop, but your stupid bladder has other ideas.
He rolls away from you suddenly and sits up. Â âI better call work. Â Tell them Iâm not coming in.â Â
He picks his phone off the bedside table. Â Itâs one of those Stark Tech ones and he swipes his finger around the screen for a second before holding it to his ear. Â
âGood morning.  Itâs Captain Rogers.  I wonât be able to make it in today ⌠ I injured myself on my morning workout ⌠No, I donât need medical attention ⌠I am aware of that.â  He holds his phone out in front of him then looks back at you.  âBattery went flat.  Thatâs a shame.â  He carefully places the phone back on the bedside table and rolls back over, pinning you to the bed.
âNow,â Â He says, kissing that spot just below your ear, âI think we should take a shower together.â
You wriggle out from underneath him. Â âOkay, but I need to pee first.â Â You squeak and dash into the bathroom.
After youâre done, you brush your teeth and let Steve use the bathroom too. Â When you hear the shower start up you go back in to join him. Â Heâs already naked and standing under the water so you strip off and climb in with him. Â When he turns to you, you nearly audibly gasp. You actually bite the inside of your cheek to stop yourself from making a sound.
He is literally the most perfect example of a human being youâve ever seen. Â Every single muscle on his body is huge and well defined. Â His cock though. Â His cock is a dildo creator's wet dream. Â It is thick and long, and just perfect. Â Veined without being too veined. Â Totally straight. Â You try and remember if youâve ever seen cock as big as his before. Â Not in person, thatâs definitely true. Â In porn? Â Maybe. Â Itâs a little intimidating if youâre honest with yourself.
You wonder if you should compliment him. Â Do guys like that? Â Fuck it, youâre doing it anyway. Â âNice package youâre sporting there, pal.â Â You grin at him like the idiot you currently feel like and mentally curse yourself.
He starts laughing. Â âThank you?â Â He says. Â
You shake your head and start giggling. Â âIâm sorry. Â Iâm an idiot.â
He takes your hand and pulls you towards him. Â He guides your fingers to his cock and moves them up and down his length. Â He stiffens under your palm and you wrap your fingers around it. Â As you pump your fist up and down his shaft he starts kissing you. Â He spins you both so youâre under the water and pushes you against the wall. Â His mouth moves down your neck to your chest. Â Each kiss is accompanied by the graze of teeth on your skin. Â
When he reaches your breast he teases your nipple with his teeth and the point of his tongue. Â When your nipple hardens he moves to the other breast and repeats the process. Â After what feels like a tortuously long time he sucks one nipple into his mouth. Â It sends a jolt through you and you groan. Â Your head falls back, pressed against the shower wall and you lift your leg and wrap it around Steveâs waist, pulling him against you.
âSteve,â  You breathe, âLet me âŚâ
He pulls away from you and you drop to your knees. Â You run your tongue up his length, tracing it over the veins and ridges. Â You take him into your mouth, sucking on the head. Â His hips move forward and you allow him to push his cock further into you, opening your throat for him. It feels like the amount you can take isnât as much as what you canât though. Â So you use your hands on his shaft and stroke him as you suck and lick and roll your tongue over his dick.
Steve places his hands on the bathroom wall and leans against it as you bring him to orgasm with your mouth. Â
âY/N, Iâm gonnaâŚâ  He pants a warning.  You increase your speed, sucking harder, forcing as much of him down your throat as you can.  You want him to come in your mouth.  You want to taste him.  Swallow what he can give you.
He comes with a jerk and you drink him down. Â He pulls you to your feet and crouches in front of you. Â His tongue slips between your folds and as he runs it up towards your clit you put your leg over his shoulder. Â He presses his tongue down on your clit. Â You gasp and he grabs your other leg and lifts you from the floor. Â You lean back against the wall and grip the shower head to stop you from falling. Â Steve laps and sucks at your pussy. Â Itâs like heâs paying close attention to every move and sound you make because he goes from moving his mouth around your folds to focused directly on that little mound of nerves that set you off coming into his mouth. Â
He adjusts you so that you slide down his front, setting you onto your feet. Â âWow. Â That was crazy.â Â You say.
Steve laughs. Â âThanks for trusting me.â Â He says and kisses you on the top of your head. Â He grabs your shower puff and squirts some of your blueberry shower gel into it. Â Slowly and tenderly he washes you. Â It makes your scalp prickle as he lathers up your body.
âI donât think Iâve even had an actual boyfriend who did anything like that before.â Â You breathe.
âIâm sorry to hear that. Â You deserve to be looked after.â Â Steve says. Â
You both finish up the shower. Â You put on a robe and Steve just stays with his towel wrapped around his waist.
âYou hungry?â Â You ask.
âStarving.â
You put on some coffee and start mixing pancakes. Â It takes a while because Steve wonât keep his hands off you. Â He stays close behind you, running his hands over your ass, gripping your waist. Â Heâll kiss and nuzzle at your neck and randomly spin you to face him so you can kiss as he grinds into you. Â Finally, you get the mixture ready and you turn on your griddle.
âI can add something to these if you want. Â I have choc-chips and blueberries.â Â You offer.
âI should say the blueberries shouldnât I?â Â Steve asks. Â
You shrug. Â âItâs already fat, sugar and carbs. Â I think you can do whatever you want at this point.â
âChoc-chips.â Â
As you cook Steve starts looking around your apartment. Â âYou like bartending?â Â He asks.
âNot always. The job I have now is good. Â Iâve just been using it as a way to see the world. Â Means I can see a place for longer.â Â You reply.
âHow long have you been traveling for?â Â
You pause and think, serving up a pancake and sliding it over your breakfast bar to him. Â You pour him a coffee and put the creamer on the counter for him to add himself. Â âAbout three years I guess. Â I liked going around Europe a lot. Â My visa ran out though, so now Iâm just seeing as much of the states as I can. You must have seen a bit of Europe too.â
Steve laughs, but itâs slightly uncomfortable. Â âIt was a little different when I saw it.â
âShit. Â Sorry. Â Of course. Â That must have been horrible. Â I couldnât imagine having to live when youâve been part of that.â Â You say. Â Your words seem to have made it worst though. Â He darkens. Â âSorry. Â Why am I bringing shit like this up? Â Iâm the worst one-night stand ever.â
Steve walks around the bar into the kitchen. Â He turns you to face him and wraps his arms around you, pulling you into an embrace. Â âDonât talk about yourself like that. Â You arenât a one night stand.â
You shake your head. Â âThatâs not what this is?â
âIt might be what this is.  It isnât what you are.â  He says.  Why do his words both hurt and feel amazing?  You donât feel bad about having casual sex but itâs like he sees you.  You arenât just a hole he can stick his dick into.  He sees the person you are.  âThe things I do⌠ My pastâŚâ  He pauses and shakes his head.
âYou donât have toâŚâ Â
âSometimes the right thing to do isnât the easiest to live with. Â You live with it because you have to.â Â He finishes. Â He reaches past you, picks up the spatula and flips the pancake on the griddle. Â âNow I didnât take off work to dwell on bad things. Â Happy talk from now on.â Â His hands go to your face and you kiss. You never want it to end. Â If you died right now, it would be happy. Â
He lets you go and you serve up the pancake and make yourself a coffee. Â You go sit down on the couch and Steve joins you. Â
âWhat made you want to travel?â Â He asks, taking a bite of pancake.
âThe world is big, and my life experience was small. Â I didnât really have anything to keep me tied down, so why not?â Â You explain. Â âItâs been good. Â You never wanted to travel?â
âI guess it would be good to see the world as a civilian.â Â He says. Â He opens his mouth like heâs going to say more and then closes it again.
âI spent some time in Australia.  I met these people and we went into the bush.  Thatâs what they call the forest there.  Did you know that?â  You say. Steve shakes his head. âItâs funny, isnât it.  Going into the bush.  Anyway⌠we found this pond I guess youâd call it.  They said it was a billabong. Australianâs are weird.  We decided to skinny dip.  When we got out, some animal had taken half our clothes.  That was a fun return trip.â
Steve starts laughing and you move your feet so they are pressed up against his leg. Â âWhat did you do?â
âWell we shared what was still there between us, and we hid behind trees a lot.â Â You hook your toes into his towel and pull it so it falls loose around him. Â He smirks at you. Â âYou ever go skinny dipping?â
âMe? Â No, never.â Â Steve says. Â He puts his plate onto the coffee table. Â He pushes your legs apart and starts kissing up your calves. Â Each kiss ends with a soft bite. Â Each bite gets harder the further up he travels.
âMaybe you should.â Â You say. Â âLive dangerously.â
He looks up at you. Â âYou donât think my life has enough danger in it?â Â
You stab a piece of pancake onto your fork and offer it to him. Â He takes a bite and you put your plate down next to his. Â âSee thatâs different. Â You go out and do what you do. Â Save the world. You risk your life sure. Â Maybe youâll get injured, maybe you die. Â Youâre still seen as Captain America. Â You go out and get caught skinny dipping with some friends. Â Or maybe some lovers even. Â You canât physically get hurt. But if you get caught, well then people get to see Steve, donât they? Â Maybe they donât like what they see?â
âIâm not sure that Steve is the kind of guy who goes skinny dipping though.â Â He says. Â He runs his face up the inside of your thigh. Â With his morning stubble, it scratches and you squirm a little.
âSteve?â Â He looks up at you and smiles. Â âThey say you canât get sick, is that true?â
âYes. Â One of the things the serum did for me.â Â
You bite your lip and run your fingers down his jaw. Â âWell, Iâm on birth control. Â If you want to forego any other protection. Â Iâm okay with it. Â Itâs up to you.â
âYouâre trusting me with a lot.â
âYouâre not trustworthy?â Â You ask.
âI like to think I am. Â But you donât really know me.â Â He pulls the tie on your robe and pushes it open. Â
âYou donât know me either. Â I could be lying about the birth control. Â Iâm not. Â I think youâre trustworthy. Â Now itâs in your court to decide if I am. Â I wonât be offended if you decide Iâm not.â Â
Steve gets up. Â He picks you up bridal style and carries you to the bed, placing you gently on the mattress. Â You look him over again and feel real trepidation over what youâre about to do. What if he doesnât fit? Â What if trying to force him to really hurts?
He climbs between your legs again resuming the little kissing expedition up your legs that heâd started on the couch. Â Each kiss is, lips followed by the graze of teeth. Â They make your skin tingle all over, and when he reaches your pussy the last kiss on your thigh is not kiss at all. Â He bites you, pulling at your flesh with his teeth. Â You moan and heat floods your cunt. Â
He runs his nose up between your folds. Â Its point briefly touches on your clit and you hiss, the muscles in your legs tightening. Â His tongue flicks over that swollen bundle of nerves sending wave after wave of pleasure through you. Â Two of his fingers are inserted into your cunt. Â He curls them stroking them over your internal walls. Â Teasing over your g-spot. Â He moves them like heâs trying to coax an orgasm out of you. Â Beckoning it to him.
You start to writhe and moan under him. Â Your orgasm builds and you grip the sheets squeezing your eyes closed as you focus on it. Â âSteve, of fuck! Â Oh god!â Â You cry.
âNot yet.â Â He growls. Â
You open your eyes and look down at him startled. Â He is watching you now. Â He removes his fingers from your cunt only to quickly return them with a third. Â He strokes them inside you and twists his hand so his knuckles grind against your g-spot. Â You cry out arching your back.
âDo you like that?â Â He asks. Â
âOh god yes. Â Please.â Â You moan.
He spreads his fingers inside you, increasing the pleasantly full sensation inside you. Â âYou feel that?â Â He asks.
âYes. Â Please, Steve. Â Please.â Â You plead with him.
âIâm no bigger than that.â Â He said. Â âYou donât need to be worried. Â Iâm not going to hurt you.â
âOkay.â Â You whimper. Â He curls his fingers and returns his mouth to your clit, nibbling on it. Â His fingers press down on your g-spot and you come, clenching around his fingers. Â
He removes his hand and crawls up your body, placing kisses at random intervals as he approaches your mouth. Â When his body is aligned with yours you grab his hair and pull him into a kiss. Â Your tongue exploring his mouth.
He pulls away from you and you chase him, sucking his bottom lip. Â He smiles at you and takes your hand guiding it to his cock. Â He wraps your fingers around his girth. Â
âYouâre in control.â Â He says, looking deep into your eyes. Â âGuide me to where itâs comfortable.â
You line his cock up with your entrance and he slowly pushes in. Â You sigh as he fills you, paying close attention to how his cock feels inside of you. Â Your head tilts back slightly, your lips parted and he places small kisses along your jaw. Â
His cock hits a spot where there is a slight sting and your grip tightens around him. Â He stops pushing and he tilts your face back to his. Â âThere?â Â he asks.
You let your body adjust and you shake your head. Â âMore.â Â You breathe.
He pushes in further. Â You feel him reach that limit where pleasure becomes pain and you stop him. Â You let his cock go wrapping your arms around the back of his neck. Â He allows you a moment to adjust to him and he begins to thrust.
Itâs like nothing youâve ever experienced before. Â He alternates between a gentle, pleasant rhythm allowing you to feel his cock run along the ridges of your cunt, to just pounding into you so you canât even catch your breath. Â You feel like youâre about to come undone. Â Just when you think this is it, nothing can possibly feel any better than Steve Rogersâ dick inside of you, he brings his arm between your bodies and his fingers find your clit. Â
You come. Â Explosively. Â Clinging to him as if heâs somehow stopping you from falling into an abyss. Â You yell his name, and he bites down on your shoulder, grunting as he spills inside of you. Â
He slips out of you and collapses down beside you. Â You link your fingers with his and just lie on your back beside him panting.
âI think you just ruined me for all men, Steve.â Â You say. Â âI have to switch teams now. Â Or maybe just give up sex forever. Â Because that was it. Â That was the best sex Iâm ever going to have.â Steve starts laughing and he pulls you into his arms. Â âDonât say that. Â We still have most of the afternoon available to us.â

Did You Hear About the Mars-Bound Raptor Engine
My colleague asked me, over tea and italian soda, at a local coffee shop: âWhat do you want to do about climate change?â
Itâs a good question.
Thereâs nothing to be done about it, but at least doing something about it, like protesting or a lifestyle change, disarms the helplessness a bit.
We are helpless, you and I. There is nothing that you and I can do individually that will matter. You can sell your car and bike to work. You can disconnect the power to your house and install solar panels. You can eat only organic and locally-sourced food. You can grow your own food. You can do it all.
It still doesnât matter.
Our species, homo sapiens, our entire civilization is built upon carbon. Â Even long before, when humans were still situated around campfires, that heat and light source based on carbon, released carbon, as did the whale oil we progressed to after that.
Carbon is tied to humanity like a double helix.
No exaggeration. We are a carbon-based life form.
And now thereâs too much of it. Way too much of it. Hundreds of billions of tons too much of it. It covers our earth like a blanket, like a baby swaddled in wool.
In a moment of clarity and complete honesty, I replied to my colleague: âI want to crawl into a hole . . . until itâs all over.â Â That my response to any difficulty: disappear, only thereâs no disappearing from climate change, and there is no waiting it out, unless youâre eternal, or undead.
Itâs only going to get worse. These are the better days, the best days; right now. The days of the future will only be worse, and, get this, even if -- even if -- we somehow miraculously sucked all the human-produced carbon from the atmosphere in an instant . . . even if we did that, things still get worse.
We are experiencing the impacts of our carbon emissions from a decade ago, right now. Today is a result of yesterdayâs emissions. Â 10 years from now, the globe will fully realize the warming effects of the carbon we release today. 2018 saw an increase in carbon emissions overall. 2019 is predicted to also be an increase overall.
And, weâre just talking about human sources of carbon.
If the earth takes over, through a mechanism called positive feedback loops (only these feedbacks are definitely not âpositive,â in any imaginable way, for humanity at least). Â There is many times the amount of carbon that is in the atmosphere today, locked away in permafrost across the northern hemisphere. If this carbon is released, slowly over time, or quickly in a burst, it will not matter what humans do with their own carbon emissions, even if we zero them immediately and send the entire world back to the Stone Age; it will not matter. The earth will release its carbon and continue to warm the planet.
Itâs happening. Itâs been widely reported, even in the mass media. Check out the Vice news episode where the journalist starts the methane seeping from arctic ponds on fire. She singes her eyebrows in the process. Anything for a story, I guess.
The permafrost in Siberia is melting. Giant sinkholes dot the landscape, some of them a decade old. This is from melting permafrost. Methane is already being released.
It means weâre probably already screwed, even if we were able to engineer a way, or many different ways, to capture carbon from the air and sequester it somewhere underground -- we are talking about billions and billions of tons of carbon. Humans have never, ever completed a project on this scale. The mass mobilization of the West during WWII is nothing, absolutely peanuts, compared to the scale of what sucking all of this carbon out of the air would require.
Do NOT imagine that technology will save us. This is not Star Trek.
The only mediocre hope we have, and this âhopeâ is quite frail, and very dangerous, only slightly less dangerous than extinction itself, is geo-engineering. We will get here, out of desperation, maybe this decade, maybe the next. Â We could put trillions of tiny mirrors in space, to reflect incoming solar radiation, and thus manage the global average temperature. Thatâs the idea, at least, with geo-engineering.
The world is already dimmed by all the pollution, the particulate matter that humans are constantly pumping into the atmosphere. After 9/11, nearly all air traffic in this country was grounded. There was a noticeable uptick in the brightness in the sky, of the sun. This uptick did not need to be measured scientifically. A layman could see it. You may very well have seen it. No jets in the sky means no contrails.
Itâs not just jets though -- itâs also particulate matter, like the smoke from coal-fired power plants. This particulate matter -- pollution -- swaddles the earth as well and provides a measurable cooling. We stop all carbon emissions today, or tomorrow, and that means, at least, a .5 degree increase in global average temperatures, from the loss of the dimming effect.
We are already doing geo-engineering, just not from space.
Itâs here. Itâs happening. The bad stuff is all around us, and we are not recognizing it. We are not connecting the dots. Come on, folks, half the Great Barrier Reef is already dead. Itâs not coming back. The oceans have absorbed 90% of the additional heating the earth has experienced. The oceans are already in crisis, and not just because of plastic pollution.
Fish stocks are crashing. Whales are beaching themselves. There are no starfish left on the West coast of the United States.
California was on fire. It will be on fire again, after this latest freak storm rolls through with 10 feet of snow, causing power outages and mudslides. Or, maybe, another tornado in Michigan in December?
Sandy. Harvey. Irma. Maria.
Bats falling dead out of trees in Australia.
I can go on and on. Check out the evangelicals! They think itâs the End Times. Check-them-out! They do not say itâs climate change: they say itâs the Rapture. They are seeing something, seeing the same things as you and I, and nobody is talking about it.
We cannot keep living in this untruth. It is making us all sick, society sick, good people going bad, because itâs stressful -- damn stressful -- to feel this dread inside, to know in your bones that things around you are changing rapidly and that the environment, for which we all depend for our habitat, is under duress, and, this is the kicker -- nobodyâs talking about it.
Nobodyâs. Talking. About. Â It!
There is this enormous, galaxy-sized white elephant, perched upon every single personâs chest, and nobody is talking about it. They just continue to gasp for breath, and hope this enormous metaphorical pachyderm will get off their chest, but it doesnât, because it canât, and it wonât -- the elephant is here to stay because the elephant is climate change(d).
The climate is changed and bad things are happening, people are suffering and dying, all over the world, stressed and poor and do not know where they will live or where their next meal will come from, so they set out, in rickety boats across an unforgiving sea, and they know -- absolutely know -- the odds that they might perish are high. They know the stories, of all the boats that donât make it, and all the bodies that wash up on the beach, yet, they still do it, they get into those boats, knowing it might be their last day, because they do NOT have another option. There is nowhere else to go.
This is climate change.
Itâs not that way for you and I, not yet, but itâs coming, and look at how we are treating these people, suffering through no fault of their own.
Did you know, if you cut out the emissions of the top-20% of earners in the world, you cut half the worldâs emissions. These people who set out in caravans, they did not cause the problem.
I did. You did.
I have travelled across the sea, more than once. I use my A/C. I use way more than the people who are in boats or caravans. They do not know that it was my emissions that killed their coffee plants and forced them to flee north.
What do we do?
We could choose to just burn the whole damn thing down -- the hothouse earth. We could do that. We might do that. Lots more people will suffer if we do that.
I donât suggest we do that.
There is still a fight against carbon.
I do suggest some honesty. We may need some civil disobedience as well. Things are not normal. The climate is in duress. People are already suffering and dying. The climate is already out of control. We need to grow up and look at this demon in the face. As a species, we need to grow up and face the physics and facts.
Some people will always be blind, imprisoned by belief, not facts, and unimpressed with experience, the first-hand experience of a climate gone awry.
Donât be one of them.
Thatâs all I can say. There is no hole to crawl into deep enough to escape this terrible thing. There is no escaping at all. There is denial, of course, even as you watch your fancy condo wash away, but there is no escaping.
It doesnât end here.
