Working in Japan
This is a repost of a thread I made on Twitter, but essentially, it's a breakdown of how much I made working as a freelancer in Japan. Consider a cautionary tale if you're thinking about moving to Japan.
So i made roughly 5 million yen last year, right? Highest i've ever gotten after 14 years in Japan (higher than what i made at my old company even). Awesome, right?
Tumblr media
Well, since i am freelance, i have to cover my own expenses. this includes lights, internet, software, other equip or transport I need for work. So once you subtract all of that, roughly 3 mil yen, I have about 2 mil yen left. Not terrible, but not great.
Tumblr media
Now, from this 2 mil, I have to subtract health insurance, which a monthly payment of about 12000 yen (144,000 a year). Ouch, but like, necessary. 1.8 mil is still not.... the worst.
Tumblr media
We still haven't paid into the pension system :smiling_face_with_tear: This payment can be made monthly, but you get a bit of a discount if you pay for a year up front (short for money, jp govt?).
So that's about 200,000 yen. Just gone.
It's just me and 1.6 mil yen left…. okay…
Tumblr media
Did I mention there's a city tax? I haven't received it yet, but it's roughly 150,000 for Osaka city. Are you crying? Because I'm crying with my 1.5 million yen. Want to cry harder? If I were to convert this to USD, it's less than 10K for the year......
Tumblr media
And that 5 million yen from all my work last year is ABOVE AVERAGE. The average wage in Japan is currently 4.1 million before taxes... IS IT REALLY ANY WONDER PPL AREN'T HAVING CHILDREN?? I CAN BARELY AFFORD MYSELF LMAO
Tumblr media
There is one major difference between freelance and fulltime employees though. Companies will cover half of your pension and a certain percentage of your health insurance, so maybe salaried employees end with a 300,000 more in their wallets.
Tumblr media
But freelancers? This includes animators, comic artists, video editors, etc. Or people that aren't employed full-time?? We have to cover our insurance and pension.
Freelancers are really out here with no money.
Tumblr media
This is all to say, basically, working in Japan is a joke. Honestly the amount I pay for healthcare is too high for quality of care I receive most of the time and I'm not even sure I'll receive pension from the govt (because they have no money)
Tumblr media
Did i mention that pay into a separate retirement plan in the states because i do not trust the japanese govt?
XDDD i've moved beyond anger. i can only laugh at my circumstances.
Tumblr media
OH and japanese politicians have just been pocketing MILLIONS of YEN. YOU KNOW. THAT AVERAGE JAPANESE CITIZENS AMT IN YEARLY WAGES. THEY POCKETED THAT TASTY UNTAXED MONEY UNTIL THEY WERE EXPOSED A FEW MONTHS AGO
Tumblr media
So yeah, the cost of living in Japan is low, and seems affordable from the point of view of the US dollar. But when you work in Japan?? When you make money in yen?????

Why is Pablo Hasel justifying and praising terrosist groups??
I’m not sure if you’re asking why Pablo Hasél is accused of praising terrorist groups or why he said what he said. So I’ll answer both things lol.
He got sentenced to jail because of different verses from his rap songs and some tweets. To be precise, the judges have considered that he published 64 tweets that were either against the Spanish monarchy (yes, “offense against the Crown” is a crime in Spain) or praising the armed organisations GRAPO and ETA. These are the tweets that caused more scandal:
“Los parásitos de los Borbones siguen de trapis con los decapitadores de los homosexuales”: “the Bourbon parasites are still doing business with the ones who decapitate homosexuals”
This is a reference to the fact that the Bourbon family (the dynasty of the Spanish monarchy) are, in fact, doing business and being friends with the monarchy of Saudi Arabia, where human rights are not respected at all.
It is a fact that Saudi Arabia condemns homosexuality as a crime: gay people caught for the first time are flogged or jailed and if the “offense” is repeated they are sentenced to death penalty (source). It’s also a fact that King Juan Carlos I has had a long friendship and business relation with the Al Saud dynasty. In 1979, the Saudi monarchy gave Juan Carlos I a yacht as a gift (which he accepted and used for his holidays for years), when the king Fahd of Saudi Arabia died in 2005 the president of Spain José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (from the PSOE party) declared a national day of mourning for the Saudi king as was suggested to him by the Spanish monarchy, in 2008 king Juan Carlos I received 100 million euros from Saudi Arabia, in 2007 Juan Carlos gave Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (brother of the current king of Saudi Arabia) the collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece (the highest chivalry honour that the King of Spain can give), in 2011 Juan Carlos intervened to the king of Saudi Arabia to get the contract of the high velocity train to Mecca (which is valued in 7,000 million dollars) assigned to a Spanish business, in 2019 the Panama papers revealed an offshore foundation that the Saudi monarchy had used to give the Spanish monarchy 100 million euros... Just a few examples that prove this relation. (Source). And now Juan Carlos I is living in the United Arab Emirates, another country with harsh punishments for homosexuality (among other human rights violations).
So Pablo Hasél was just stating the facts in that sentence.
“El mafioso de mierda del Rey dando lecciones desde un palacio”: “the fucking mafioso King giving lessons from a palace”
Given the many cases of corruption that the king has been involved in, as well as his intervention in the economy (such as profiting from big businesses that had profited from Franco’s dictatorship) and pressure in politics, it’s not so crazy to call him (and his family clan) a mafioso. In fact, the French TV news literally called Juan Carlos I a “gangster” once.
As for the “giving lessons from a palace”, that’s what he does in his Christmas speech or any other time he addresses the citizens, as if we all had it so easy as living and owning multiple palaces with hundreds of maids and not having to work while getting all kinds of luxuries payed for with public money. Not just Juan Carlos, Felipe VI is the same (remember when he went to Cuba to give them lessons on democracy, but then pretended everything was perfect in the visit to Saudi Arabia?).
Once again, Pablo Hasél was not being far from the truth.
“Guardia Civil torturando o disparando a emigrantes”: “the Civil Guard [Spanish military police force] torturing or shooting migrants”
The Civil Guard literally shoots rubber bullets at migrants who are trying to get on Spanish soil in Ceuta (source). By shooting them rubber bullets, the migrant people fall back on the water, and many drown. The Civil Guard murders and tortures migrants. And everything that takes place inside CIEs (migrant detention centers) can also be called torture with no doubt.
Again, these are facts.
Those were posts on social media, he has also been sentenced because of the lyrics of his songs. Here are some sentences from his song “Juan Carlos el Bobón” (the title is a pun with the words "Borbón”-Bourbon- and “bobo”-stupid-).
“Me cago en la marca España explotadora y casposa”: “the exploiter and braggart brand Spain can go fuck itself”
That’s self-explanatory. A personal opinion you can agree or disagree with, but given the things we’ve mentioned in this post and so many more, it’s perfectly understandable that he would feel like this. And he should be free to say it.
“Si Froilán se disparó en el pie siendo menor de edad igual ahora que es mayor de edad va a disparar a toda la Familia Real”: “if Froilán shot himself in the foot when he was underage, maybe now that he’s an adult he’ll shoot the whole Royal Family”
For those who don’t know, Froilán is the son of Infanta Elena, and so the nephew of the current king Philip VI. This line is a reference to 2012, when he was shooting in one of his parents’ possessions and he accidentally shot himself in the foot. It was illegal for him to be shooting in the first place, because Spanish law prohibits kids under 14 years of age to hold firearms, but of course nothing happened to his parents for doing illegal things because they’re the royal family.
Unsurprisingly, this line is considered “offense to the Crown”. It’s not a threat from Hasél, it’s just wishful thinking that I’m sure many people share.
And lines from other songs by Pablo Hasél:
“Siempre hay algún indigente despierto con quien comentar que se debe matar a Aznar”: “there’s always some homeless person awake with whom to talk about the need to kill Aznar”
José María Aznar was president of Spain between 1996 and 2004 with the right-wing party Partido Popular (PP). He was a shit president, during his presidency the labour rights decreased and left thousands of workers with way less protection than before, he focused a lot of his work as president on making the economy more neoliberal and left thousands of workers with unfair salaries and harsh working conditions by allowing the owners to fire and decrease pay at will. He also gave support to the USA in the occupation of Iraq, even when the population had been protesting against it (I was only 4 or 5 years old at the time and even I remember one of the general strikes against it).
“¡Merece que explote el coche de Patxi López!”: “Patxi López’s car deserves to explode”
“¡Que alguien clave un piolet en la cabeza a José Bono!”: “Someone stab an axe on José Bono’s head!”
“No me da pena tu tiro en la nuca, 'pepero'. Me da pena el que muere en una patera. No me da pena tu tiro en la nuca, 'socialisto'. Me da pena el que muere en un andamio”: “I’m not feeling sorry for the shot in the back of your neck, pepero [member of the PP party]. I feel sorry for the ones who die in dinghy boats. I don’t feel sorry for the shot in the back of your neck, socialisto [member of the PSOE party]. I feel sorry for the ones who die in a scaffold”.
“Prefiero grapos que guapos”: “I prefer GRAPOs to handsomes” (a pun). GRAPO was a communist and anti-imperialism armed organisation.
“Mi hermano entra en la sede del PP gritando ¡Gora ETA! A mí no me venden el cuento de quiénes son los malos, sólo pienso en matarlos”: “My brother goes in the PP’s headquarters shouting ‘Gora ETA!’. They won’t sell me the tale of who are the bad guys, I’m only thinking of killing them”
“Es un error no escuchar lo que canto, como Terra Lliure dejando vivo a Losantos”: “It’s a mistake to not listen to what I sing, like when Terra Lliure left Losantos alive”. Terra Lliure was a short-lived communist organisation that wanted to fight for the independence of the Catalan Countries through armed struggle. Jiménez Losantos is a fascist radio host who tells all kinds of lies and manipulates information to spread right-wingism, hatred towards national minorities, homophobia, etc.
“Los Grapo eran defensa propia ante el imperialismo y su crimen”: “GRAPO were self-defense against imperialism and its crime”.
“Quienes manejan los hilos merecen mil kilos de amonal”: “those who pull the strings deserve 1000 kg of ammonal”
“Pienso en balas que nucas de jueces nazis alcancen”: “I think of the bullets that would reach the nazi judges’ back of the necks”
None of these sentences are serious threats / plans at the moment. On the contrary, when the politicians he mentions make policies that directly cause deaths (of migrant people at the borders, suicides in migrant detention centers, of workers in their workplace, of people whose heat and gas is cut off or who are evicted, of women murdered by their husbands because they didn’t have anywhere to go for help, etc), now those are real crimes, aren’t they?
Pablo Hasél has been very vocal about being a communist. So I’ll copy-paste Friedrich Engels’ definition of “social murder”. I don’t know what Pablo had in mind when writing those lyrics but I think this fragments helps understand where he’s coming from.
When one individual inflicts bodily injury upon another such that death results, we call the deed manslaughter; when the assailant knew in advance that the injury would be fatal, we call his deed murder. But when society places hundreds of proletarians in such a position that they inevitably meet a too early and an unnatural death, one which is quite as much a death by violence as that by the sword or bullet; when it deprives thousands of the necessaries of life, places them under conditions in which they cannot live — forces them, through the strong arm of the law, to remain in such conditions until that death ensues which is the inevitable consequence — knows that these thousands of victims must perish, and yet permits these conditions to remain, its deed is murder just as surely as the deed of the single individual; disguised, malicious murder, murder against which none can defend himself, which does not seem what it is, because no man sees the murderer, because the death of the victim seems a natural one, since the offence is more one of omission than of commission. But murder it remains. (Engels, The Condition of the Working-Class in England, 1845)
So we can agree or disagree with Pablo Hasél and what he says or his way of saying it, but that doesn’t mean he should be jailed because of it. And it’s incredibly hypocritical to consider saying (not doing, just saying!) that “there’s always some homeless person to talk about the need to kill Aznar with” is violence, but to ignore that Aznar’s involvement in the Iraq helped kill thousands of civilians (for a lie, because Iraq did NOT have weapons of mass destruction!) and caused the misery and indirectly the death of so many workers.
If your question was why did Pablo Hasél say these things, I think two of the sentences we said sum it up:
“I’m not feeling sorry for the shot in the back of your neck, pepero [member of the PP party]. I feel sorry for the ones who die in dinghy boats. I don’t feel sorry for the shot in the back of your neck, socialisto [member of the PSOE party]. I feel sorry for the ones who die in a scaffold” and “GRAPO were self-defense against imperialism and its crime”. Pablo Hasél was highlighting how the current situation we live in is already violence. Violence inflicted by capitalism, imperialism and hatred, so he would consider his words self-defense.

You've been asked about your favorite matches before, but what's your ~least favorite~ match?
HEY, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ASKING THIS
muhammad ali vs antonio inoki. the match fuckin' sucked, and i say that with great respect for both men. you can find it pretty easily on youtube if you care to, but i wouldn't recommend it. it was an unmitigated disaster. but the everything else around it is great! it's basically the first mma match.
okay, strap in, cuz this is one of my favorite wrestling stories. if you already know the story, just agree with me and skip, but its so fuckin' funny.
basically, in the way back of 1975 (? i think?), ali was like 33. right on the edge of retirement, not goin quite so hard as he used to. he's lookin for a challenge, somethin a little new, some kind of crossover fight. at a benefit of some kind, ali met the president of the japanese amateur wrestling association and did the extremely ali thing of running his mouth. he was like, "i'll give a million dollars to whoever of your boys can beat me." obviously, this made huge headlines in japan and antonio inoki was like ok bet, and his backers offered six million dollars
(if you are unfamiliar with inoki, he's a professional wrestling l e g e n d, politician and the founder of new japan pro-wrestling. please look him up and strap in for another wild fuckin ride. or ask, i guess. fuckin legend. and watch new japan.)
ali has some of the best trash talk there ever was, making quips about inoki's incredible jawline, but inoki had one of the hardest, calmest comebacks, like "when your fist connects with my chin, take care your hand isn't damaged." great. media ate it the fuck up, everyone ate it the fuck up.
so like, this was a fuckin huge deal. like vince wwe jr's dad bought out an entire theatre and showed the match on closed circuit tv and made bank. like, from the price of live tickets being insane to the absolute bat shit number of pay per view buys, this was fuckin HUGE.
NOW. both these guys always, always, always held onto the story that the fight was legit. always. there's no fuckin' way, but you gotta respect the grift. whether it might have started with ali thinking it was legit before the six million agreement was made? maybe. but somewhere along the way, someone had to be the one to tell muhammad ali that getting six mil meant he was booked to fuckin' lose.
obviously, that didn't fly. even with the plan being that ali would throw a stray punch, knock out the ref, and inoki would knock him out with a cheap kick to the head, he'd get counted out, and ali would get to save face. story for the ages, never fails, always works.
naw. ali wouldn't fuck with that. a fixed fight that neither man was willing to lose.
but on the other end--at least according to inoki--was the story of ali showing up to watch him train, going "when do we rehearse?" and inoki going, "naw. this is gonna be a real fight."
whatever was the truth, what resulted was the stupidest stipulations fuckin' imaginable. inoki would not be allowed to tackle, grapple or throw ali, and he wouldn't be allowed to kick unless he had one knee on the mat. fucking stupid, right? (it's possible that ali's backers [behind ali's back] threatened inoki's life, according to bret hart, who worked for inoki at the time, but all wrestlers are carnies so it is equally possible either fuckin way. who knows.)
so anyway. inoki was accompanied to the ring by karl fuckin' gotch, who helped form a lot of the grappling style of wrestling in japan--which is a detail for me, mostly, because that era of japanese wrestling, in particular, is really interesting. ali wore smaller 4 oz gloves, a lot closer to what we think of mma fighters wearing nowadays. it would be 15 three minute rounds.
so like, the bell goes off, and inoki goes for a kick, misses, goes for another, misses, lands on his back and just--stayed there. because ali can't punch him if he's on the mat. so he stayed on his back, aiming kick after kick at ali's legs. in the sixth round, inoki got him to the canvas and squatted on his face. ali didn't even throw his first punch until like the seventh round, and his second in round ten. inoki was on the mat until like the 13th round. he got ali with a kick to the balls. muhammad ali threw six punches in the entire fuckin' thing.
it was scored as a tie, so no one lost and literally everyone who watched was fuckin pissed. there were chants for money back, garbage all over the fuckin place, it was a mess, everyone involved was humiliated.
and to add insult to literal injury, ali took so many hard kicks to the legs that he developed two blood clots. when he went through with his next fight, instead of going to the hospital first, his injuries got worse. the infection and injuries meant that he never got his full mobility back.
but ali and inoki became friends? like, really fucking good friends? inoki began to use ali's music to walk out to, ali flew out to watch inoki's final match in 1998, they worked together while inoki was in politics. that's how ali got involved with the collision in korea debacle.
my least favorite match of all time. it's terrible and embarrassing to watch, and i will never watch it again, but the story of it is so fucking great that i also love it so much.

LANGUAGE SPOKER: english, italian, portuguese, and spanish
⇢ ORIGINS
So milagros was actually born in oaxaca, mexico, but she was given up to her aunt who eventually gave her up to the officials.
mila was moved to different adoption agencies, and at two years old she ended up in one in mexico city where she met her parents.
It wasn’t long after until mila moved to the USA, ending up in new york with her new family.
Marco and Claudia Venturi were already parents to 6 boys - who were closer to being men at the point milagros showed up. One thing they didn’t have was a girl, and since they couldn’t get it the old fashioned way, they decided to just adopt instead. They had the means to do it anyway.
Marco Venturi is a retired politician, he’s had a very reputable career, and now since his retirement he works a lot with habitat for humanity and his ultimate goal is for inclusive spaces.
Claudia De Costa Venturi is a fashion designer with a known reputation in europe, her brand DCVenturi became popular in the american market as well
The family lived in New York, New York City most of the time, but both Marco and Claudia wanted their kids to see the world, so they travelled often, and it became easier since a lot of their kids were older, so the only ones that would go where the younger ones.
If you were to ask Milagros what she remembered from Mexico, it wouldn’t be much. Growing up she didn’t feel different from her siblings, and her parents never made her feel like she ever was either. her parents didnt even want milagros to forget where she was really from, so often they would go on trips with her to mexico, and decided to keep her original name.
⇢ BACKGROUND
to this day, milagros hates her long name, it’s super difficult to fill in on documents and it’s annoying when it comes to having fill out forms. She often goes by Mila, but Millie would be the second most nickname for her
she went to the best schools, often private where they had the uniforms, it was sort of a gossip girl situation with her growing up, except she was captain of the cheer team, and she was on other things like track team, prom committee, drama club, art club, music club. she was involved a lot because her parents put her in a lot of extracurriculars out of school too.
because her parents are influential, millie’s been on a couple papers, she loves to get dressed for night outs. fashion week is exciting for her, and she definitely sometimes got caught not in her best by random strangers.
Besides her parents, she’s had to deal with the lives of her brothers, and they’ve all come out successful whether it’s owning a restaurant, being some kind of YouTuber, or even an everyday teacher. not to mention it sucked being the youngest and a girl with so many older brothers.
the Venturi kids had everything at their disposal, and as you can see, millie’s only problem was figuring out what she wanted.
you’d think millie knew what she wanted, right? not at all. honestly for her a lot of what she was doing was bc her parents made her.
when millie turned 18, she decided she wanted to reconnect with her biological parents alone, and as much as it made her parents uncomfortable, they agree to let her go alone. So for a few months, she lived in Mexico, with her cousin because alone didnt meant alone alone lol
millie met her real parents, and that in itself was emotional. for the rest of her time in mexico she learned about the culture, the people, it was a big game changer for her.
she knew that she was different than her family, she saw it growing up, and there ofc were people who would tell her, in a way she went into a bit of an identity crisis.
⇢ POST-SECONDARY/PERSONALITY/NOW
She didn’t want to live in New York much anymore, kinda tired of a super busy city so she decided to go to somerset in seattle washington for sculpture and architecture.
her parents were surprised since millie could have gone to any school in the state, ivy league even.
even if she got into somerset a, she actually deferred for a year, so she’s only been at somerset for 2 years.
millie decided on sculpture and architecture because she lives the idea of designing buildings and homes. after uni she wants to go abroad and help construct homes for those who can barely afford it, or somehow work together with Habitat for Humanity.
in her free time she really likes doing pottery, often you can catch her at uni after hours in the labs doing something.
besides there, you can find her in a coffee shop nearby the university called Second Cup. it’s not like she needs money since her parents fought her to pay everything for her - mila just wanted to work, so she does as a barista and it’s really the only time she’s the most social. catch her doing some cute latte art with your drinks cos she’s bored.
mila fortunately lives alone but she’s barely there, so the living room is spotless but her work room, cos ofc she lives in a two bedroom but she lives alone, sdfkjsadk her work room is what she calls ‘an organized mess’ and it’s where she’ll have her supplies and models.
millie is very much go with the flow and down with everything when she’s not busy working or doing school stuff
she was very much involved in high school, and in uni she’s.. half involved? she’s a part of some clubs but not rlly, most of her time is spent in art labs or sketching in the library
she had a bit of a wild youth, and now she’s kind of chill but if you were to get her drunk, she’s a fun dumb, says really stupid stuff and laughs at everything. she kinda just wants to hug everyone.
ppl call her perfect cos she has money, knows how to do a lot of things and millie hates it bc she has her own insecurities too
sometimes she can get snarky, especially if you’re on her bad side. she loves to argue, and even when she knows she’s wrong, she’s right. no questions.
don’t hate her but she’s forgetful asf if it’s about everyday things.
her favourite holiday is winter, she loves ice skating, snow, hot chocolate, peppermint. catch her apartment already have a christmas tree up while some christmas lifetime movie is on tv lol
she’s pretty much a sweetheart unless you piss her off lolol she’d love to pick someone’s brain over a cup of coffee.
if you give her a reason to dress up she loves it, if she has no reason you can catch her in sweats, especially if it’s cold outside.
when it comes to relationships, they were always hard for her since she wasn’t sure if they liked her for her money, her status or to gain some connection to her family. she’s dated people who are both rich or poor, and so far she’s unimpressed with everyone lol
her friends are.. a lot bc she’s rlly not picky with who she’s friends with when she probably should.

#1yrago Not in our name: Why European creators must oppose the EU's proposal to limit linking and censor the internet
Tumblr media
The European Copyright Directive vote is in three days and it will be a doozy: what was once a largely uncontroversial grab bag of fixes to copyright is now a political firestorm, thanks to the actions of Axel Voss, the German MEP who changed the Directive at the last minute, sneaking in two widely rejected proposals on the same day the GDPR came into effect, forming a perfect distraction (you can contact your MEP about these at Save Your Internet).
These two proposals are:
1. "Censorship Machines": Article 13, which forces online providers to create databases of text, images, videos, code, games, mods, etc that anyone can add anything to -- if a user tries to post something that may match a "copyrighted work," in the database, the system has to censor them
2. "Link Tax": Article 11, which will only allow internet users to post links to news sites if the service they're using has bought a "linking license" from the news-source they're linking to; under a current proposal, links that contain more than two consecutive words from an article's headline will be illegal without a license.
We're all busy and we all rely on trusted experts to give us guidance on what side of an issue to take, and creators often take their cues from professional societies and from the entertainment industry, but in this case, both have proven to be unreliable.
In a recent tweetstorm, Niall from the UK's Society of Authors sets out his group's case for backing these proposals. As a UK author, I was alarmed to see an organisation that nominally represents me taking such misguided positions and I tried to rebut them, albeit within Twitter's limitations.
Here's a less fragmented version.
Niall writes that Article 11 ("link taxes") will not stop you from linking to the news. That's just wrong. If you don't host your own blog on your own server, you'll going to posting your links from one of the platforms, either a multinational, US-based company like Facebook, or a smaller EU competitor. Under Article 11, you can't link to a news-site without a license.
Article 11 doesn't actually define what a "link" or a "news site" is (this is a pretty serious oversight). But Article 11 is an EU-wide version of local laws that were already attempted in Spain and Germany, and under those laws, links that included the headline in "anchor text" (that's the underlined, blue text that goes with a hyperlink) were banned. In the current amendments, Axel Voss has proposed that using more than two consecutive words from a headline would not be allowed without a license.
Niall says that memes and other forms of parody will not be blocked by Article 13's filters, because they are exempted from European copyright. That's doubly wrong.
First, there are no EU-wide copyright exemptions. Under the 2001 Copyright Directive, European countries get to choose zero or more exemptions from a list of permissible ones.
Second, even in countries where parody is legal, Article 13's copyright filters won't be able to detect it. No one has ever written a software tool that can tell parody from mere reproduction, and such a thing is so far away from our current AI tools as to be science fiction (as both a science fiction writer and a Visiting Professor of Computer Science at the UK's Open University, I feel confident in saying this).
Niall says that Wikipedia won't be affected by Article 13 and Article 11. This is so wrong, I published a long article about it. tl;dr: Wikipedia's articles rely on being able to link to analyses of the news, which Article 11 will limit; Wikipedia's projects like Wikimedia Commons are not exempted from Article 13; and commercial Wikipedia offshoots lose what little carveouts are present in Article 13.
Niall says Article 13 will not hurt small businesses, only make them pay their share. This is wrong. Article 13's copyright filters will cost hundreds of millions to build (existing versions of these filters, like Youtube's Content ID, cost $60,000,000 and only filter a tiny slice of the media Article 13 requires), which will simply destroy small competitors to the US-based multinationals.
What's more, these filters are notorious for underblocking (missing copyrighted works -- a frequent complaint made by the big entertainment companies...when they're not demanding more of these filters) and overblocking (blocking copyrighted works that have been uploaded by their own creators because they are similar to something claimed by a giant corporation).
Niall says Article 13 is good for creators' rights. This is wrong. Creators benefit when there is a competitive market for our works. When a few companies monopolise the channels of publication, payment, distribution and promotion, creators can't shop around for better deals, because those few companies will all converge on the same rotten policies that benefit them at our expense.
We've seen this already: once Youtube became the dominant force in online video, they launched a streaming music service and negotiated licenses from all the major labels. Then Youtube told the independent labels and indie musicians that they would have to agree to the terms set by the majors -- or be shut out of Youtube forever. In a market dominated by Youtube, they were forced to take the terms. Without competition, Youtube became just another kind of major label, with the same rotten deals for creators.
Niall says that Article 13 will stop abuses of copyright like when the fast-fashion brand Zara ripped off designers for its clothing. This is wrong (and a bit silly, really). What Zara did was illegal already, and since Zara's clothes are physical objects in shops (and not images on the web), web filters will have no effect on them.
Niall says that Article 13 isn't censorship. This is wrong. Copyright filters always overblock, catching dolphins in their tuna-nets. It's easy to demonstrate that these filters are grossly overblocking. When the government orders private actors to take measures that stop you from posting lawful communications, that's censorship.
Niall says that multinational companies will get a "huge victory" if Article 13 is stopped. That's wrong. While it's true that the Big Tech companies would prefer not to have any rules, they could very happily live with these rules, because they would effectively end any competition from new entrants into the field. Spending a few hundred million to comply with the Copyright Directive is a cheap alternative to having to buy out or crush any new companies that pose a threat.
I sympathise with Niall. As someone's who's volunteered as a regional director for other creators' rights groups, I understand that they're well-intentioned and trying to stand up for their members' interests.
But the Society of Authors and its allies have it wrong here. Articles 11 and 13 are catastrophes for both free expression and artists' livelihoods. They're a bargain in which Europe's big entertainment companies propose to sell Big Tech an Eternal Internet Domination license for a few hundred mil, cementing both Big Content and Big Tech's strangleholds on our ability to earn a living and reach an audience.
Don't take my word for it. David Kaye, the UN's Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, has condemned the proposals in the strongest possible terms.
And Wyclef Jean from the Fugees agrees, seeing Article 13 as a measure that will get between him and his audience by limiting his fans' ability to promote his work and pay his bills.
Meanwhile, Pascal Nègre (who recently stepped down after 20 years as President of Universal Music France) agrees, saying that the deal is "a net negative for artists, for the industry and, ultimately, for the public good."
Link taxes are a bad idea. In an era of fake news, anything that limits the ability of internet users to link to reliable news sources deals a terrible blow to our already weakened public discourse.
Copyright filters are an even worse idea. Not only will these both overblock and underblock, they'll also be ripe for abuse. Because the filters' proponents have rejected any penalties for fraudulently claiming copyright in works in order to censor them, anyone will be able to censor anything. You could claim all of Shakespeare's works on WordPress's filters, and no one would be able to quote Shakespeare until the human staff at the company had hand-deleted those entries -- and you could use bots to re-add those entries more quickly than they could be taken down.
More seriously, corrupt politicians and other public figures have already made a practice of using spurious copyright claims in order to censor unflattering news. Automating the process is a gift to any politician who wants to suppress video of an embarrassing campaign-event remark and any corrupt employer who wants to suppress video of an unsafe and abusive workplace incident.
Creators in the 21st Century struggle to earn a living -- just as we have in all the centuries since the invention of the printing press -- and we will forever be busy making things, and reliant on our professional organisations for guidance on which political currents run in our favour.
But there is a simple rule of thumb we can always follow that will keep us from being led astray: creators should always, always be on the side of free expression and always, always be opposed to censorship. We should always oppose anything that makes it easier to silence legitimate speech, anything that narrows who can control our public discourse by concentrating power into a few hands.
Creators, you have three days to talk to your lawmakers. Save Your Internet is the place to go to call, write and tweet them. This travesty is being undertaken in our name and we have a duty to stop it.

Murder denied
“YOU WEREN’T SUPPOSE TO CARE! I CAME TO KILL YOU! BUT I….I fell in love with you.” John yelled at Thomas. John fell into his arms sobbing his eyes out. Thomas hugged him tightly, refusing to let go.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
John got a letter in his mailbox. That wasn’t uncommon, he was a secret assassin. Only few people knew of his services. The letter asked for John to meet Alexander Hamilton as his own apartment on the night of the twenty seventh.
John checked the calendar. It was the twenty sixth. A good twenty four hours before the meeting was to take place. He geared his supplies before going to bed at two. He woke at twelve the next afternoon. He laid his clothes out and took a shower.
Afterwards he went to the kitchen to make lunch for himself. He made it big as he didn’t know when he was going to eat again. He checked the time to find it was two. He dreaded having to wait four more hours to leave. Waiting was not his forte.
Five thirty finally rolled around and John left to go meet with the Mr.Hamilton. He had never met the client before nor heard of him. So this obviously was some political killing. Maybe a small Assassination that will keep someone’s secret hidden forever.
John arrived at his house promptly at six. He knocked on the door awaiting an answer. A tall ginger opened the door. He had blue eyes and seemed agitated. He ushered John inside before slamming the door shut.
“So Mr.Hamilton who seems to be your problem?” John asked taking a seat at the table set up. Alexander went around the room and shit all the blinds and made sure the door was locked. Once he sat at the table, he began.
“There is a Mister Thomas Jefferson who needs to be disposed of.” Alex told John. “We are or were running mates for the upcoming election. He has his to say discovered dirt on me. He plans to use it to blackmail me and take all the votes and power. Our city will be…..ruined if he takes office. I need you to stop him.” John sat there for a moment thinking.
“What will you pay me for disposing of this Mister Jefferson?” He asked twirling his blade in his hand. “Killing and hiding dead bodies isn’t exactly easy you know.”
“Look I have one mil saved away if you succeed in killing him. I will give you all of it as long as he is disposed of.”
“How will I know you will promise to give me the full payment once I get rid of this Jefferson guy?”
“Look take this watch. It’s worth a considerable amount of money. If I don’t give you the money, keep the watch. It’s of great importance to me.”
“Hmm a sentimental watch for one million dollars. Sounds like a plan Mister Hamilton. I’ll be contact when the victim is gone.”
“Thank you.” John backed from the table and shook his hand. He stared at the watch in his hand, sliding out the front door. Alexander had given him a file with name,address, and other things John would need to lure the man to his death. He found the victim was Bi. John noted certainly to use for his advantage.
He found a picture of the man he was hired to kill and froze. He didn’t want to admit it, but he was hot. If he had to date based on looks, this man would be top of his list.
John shook the thought aside and went on his way. He glanced around until he slipped into an alleyway in the north side of the city. No one
came down this way and it was a perfect place to draw out ideas of the murders he committed for his customers.
The sun was slowly falling behind the buildings as he laid out a map of the city. He marked the suspect’s home and office. There was a park in between the two locations. There was also a junkyard near the office. He took note of the junkyard before going through and finding rivers and creek that he could potentially drown him in.
Once he was finished, his map looked like a pride flag. Colors streaked all over the place. He took note of the places he could commit the murder and hide the body. All of his information would change once he sees and scouts Thomas.
John heard a can tip over and bolted up throwing his maps in his bag. He glanced around but saw no one. Then a small black haired guy tumbled out of the pile of trash.
“So Laurens, Who we killing now? Politician, person who knows too much?” The guy asked smirking. John rolled his eyes realizing that Charles was drunk.
“Ironically both.” John told him helping him up. He thought about leaving him there but decided against. He helped Charles to his place and dumped him on the couch. He was luckily really light and John was able to carry him when he passed out.
John took out the picture of Thomas again, sighing over how handsome he is. He pushed the thought aside. He couldn’t dwell upon how handsome the man he was to murder was.
“Stop it John. I’m sure he’s a terrible person. You can’t fall in love with him. He may look hot, but he is probably mean and hurtful.” He placed the photo away and sat at his computer searching up where he might be campaigning or going for a meeting. John found he would be doing a meet and greet with the people. He could go and get a potential scope of who he was dealing with.
He went to make sure Charles was asleep before going to sleep himself. He woke up to Charles attempting to make breakfast. He rolled his eyes and got up making sure he didn’t didn’t hurt himself.
He made Charles a drink to help with the hangover. He then finished breakfast that Charles was trying to make. He gave the food to him before leaving.
“I’ll be home later, please don’t trash my apartment. I like my apartment.” John told him walking out the door. He pulled his beanie on his head before locking the door behind him.
He found his car down on the road and drove to the mall where Thomas would be doing his meet and greet with the public. He arrived and found a long line weaving out the door. He didn’t want too, but he got in the line.
Hours later he finally arrived at the table. John halted. He realized that Thomas was hotter in real life than in his picture. John contained himself as Thomas stretched his hand out to greet him.
“Please to meet you Mister…..”
“Oh uh Smith. John Smith.” John replied.
“Pleasure to meet you Mister Smith. You’ll be voting for me in the next election yes?”
“Yes, yes of course I will.” Thomas smiled at him. John gave in and almost fainted. He had never been more in love in his life. Several of Thomas’ bodyguards carried him away to an ambulance. He was examined by the paramedic before going home.
John noticed a guard slowly following behind him. He turned a few extra corners but he didn’t stop. Once he came upon his building, Charles came stumbling out.
“Hey Johnny boy. Thanks for the hangover cure. Although it didn’t last long. I’m going downtown.” Charles stumbled off and John smacked his head to his hand. He walked inside the building, watching the guard walk away. John shook it off. There was no way they could know was he was commissioned to do.
He opened his door to find his placed trashed. He gave up and cleaned the apartment before falling onto the couch. He couldn’t understand what he was feeling. He refused to love anyone,now here he is, falling in love.
John fell asleep on the couch, waking up around dinner time. He found a can of soup and poured it in a bowl heating it up. He heard a knock at the door. He pretended he didn’t hear it, but the person kept knocking. He turned off his soup and answered it. Thomas was standing at the door with a goofy grin on his face.
“Hello Mister Smith. I came to see if you were ok from earlier.”
“My name is John Laurens. Sorry I panicked earlier and told you the wrong name. Please do come in.” John stepped aside and allowed Thomas to come in. No one could see them, he could kill him right here. No one would know.“Thomas I need to tell you. I’ve been hired to kill you. But I can’t.”
“May I ask why you can’t kill me?” Thomas asked sitting on his couch.
“This is going to sound stupid, but I think…..I think I’m in love with you. I can’t kill you.” Thomas looked concerned and scared at the same time. He realized it could easily be a trap to kill him. Make Thomas vulnerable then strike him.
“Mister Laurens, I came to check on you, not to be told that you love me. Please if you let me leave I won’t tell a sound what you told me, and you can murder me at a more convenient time.” John plopped on the couch.
“You don’t understand I don’t want to kill you.” John looked up tears streaming down his face.Thomas came over and hugged him. Months passed and Thomas and John started to go out in private. Neither wanted the press to know. At least, not until after elections.
One night Thomas found John crying on the couch of his house. Thomas sat next to him, hugging him.
“YOU WEREN’T SUPPOSE TO CARE! I CAME TO KILL YOU! BUT I….I fell in love with you.” John yelled at Thomas. John fell into his arms sobbing his eyes out. Thomas hugged him tightly, refusing to let go.
“It’s ok John, I will always love you.”
Pilgrim
In the middle of this Great Texas Freeze, their Governor got on TV and pointed the finger at f*cking windmills for their loss of heat, even though it only accounts for ten percent of their power. Even though, with some of the windmills frozen due to a shortsighted (cheap) GOP legislature, still overproduced power during this trying time. Their Senior Senator abandoned his constitutes for Cancun during their plight, after just two days in front of a massive fire, only to get busted by a myriad of actual Texans who then forced him to come back after a day for damage control. Damage control that took the form of Cruz blaming his teenage daughters for his dereliction of duties. Mans left his dog, alone in that house, to freeze to death! Ted Cruz didn't even take his purse dog during a record winter freeze, man! One of their Mayors, now since resigned, literally told everyone to shut the f*ck up, figure it out, or die. And people have died. Children have die form this, actually frozen to death. In 2021. In a state as large as Texas. Children. Have. Died. From. This. All the while, guess what Dems have been doing?
Beto O'Rourke has been out in the streets, in that same cold that forced Ted Cruz to flee, distributing blankets and passing around soup. He's been coordinating with business and hotels, trying to find heated shelter for families and the homeless so they don't die in the f*cking street. Texas' Great Demon of Socialism, herself, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, raised two million dollars in two days, allocated for direct relief to Texan aide but that wasn't enough for her. She's even planning on volunteering at a Texas food bank, one probably boosted by a portion of that two mil she earned to help out, even though Flyin' Lyin' Ted was complicit in a whole ass insurrection where motherf*ckers targeted her life, specifically. That's just two Progressives, doing more for Texas than the actual f*cking Texas Senior leadership, and I'm inclined to bet there are many. many, more. Hell, those things that would have went a long way to preparing for this exact scenario which the very, very Red Electorate kept shooting down? Yeah, the Blue, the very minimized Blue who were able to claw a seat out at the Lone Star table, have been fighting for these changes for years. F*cking years.
The GOP does not care about you. They are not the party of personal responsibility. They are not the party of the working class. They are not the good Christians you want them to be. How can they be? Any time they are forced to lead, they bail. Any time they are held to account, they deflect. Texas is the great bastion of Conservative politics and look what is happening to them right the f*ck now. Republicans are climate deniers and Texas is in the throes of their harshest winter ever, because of climate change. Republicans are staunch Capitalists so Texas deregulated their entire energy grid in hopes that the Free Market would decide prices and that happened in a way. After their grid collapsed due to the lack of Federal regulation and maintenance, the state of emergency has allowed the big oil companies there to effectively price gouge energy companies for fuel, a hike that is definitely being passed on to their already freezing and suffering customers. The Right are aggressively trying to villainize Green Energy and Renewables, using this Texas situation to prove how terrible they would be for the entire country, even though ninety percent of their energy grid is fueled by Fossil and it was those plants that failed at a higher rate, much more quickly, than any of the windmills they keep trying to convince us iced over. Even though those same windmills are used in f*cking Iceland where they are regulated and maintained properly. But Big Oil pays handsomely for their Conservative politicians, check out how much oil money went to Ted Cruz last year, so they'll never properly hold them responsible for this. Instead, they're using partisan spin to somehow demonize the other side, even though it was the Right who consistently accept their egregious and blatant blood money. And that's the point.
Lives have less value than money to these people. Leadership is less lucrative than personal gain. The GOP is full of racist grifters who bamboozle their constituency because they're idiots who vote with their "heart" instead of their brains and that is nowhere more true than in f*cking Texas. Rick Perry is an idiot. He was the Secretary of Energy during Trump's lone term and that motherf*cker didn't even know what to do. Perry literally had no idea what responsibilities an Energy Secretary has. This asshole was the Governor of Texas. W, the worst president i had ever seen in my life until Trump, known coke head and solid C student his entire life, was Governor of Texas. These people elected these men because of their feigned swagger, because of this manicured image that they were the White Hat. Texans chase the ghost of John Wayne to lead them, even though John Wayne wasn't real It was a character that a really terrible human being named Marion Robert Morrison, played in the movies. Not even the f*cking name is real but his racism and misogyny sure was and this is the cartoon character that Texans see themselves as. This whole ass mockery of a person is who Republicans want to lead them. They want the Strong Man, They want a Putin but a down home, country version, instead of, you know, an unapologetic despot. It's no wonder this is the party that cages Brown kids in concentration camps with impunity and lets an entire state freeze, disproportionately effected massive urban areas like Houston and Dallas, which are chock full of, you guessed it; Black and Brown people!
Learn All About Front And Back Of Real Credit Card From This Politician | front and back of real credit card
Getting a credit card with no credit rating is a real challenge because most companies do not look at your credit standing when considering which card to offer you. Many of them are based on your credit card application alone, so if you have a poor credit history or no credit at all, you can find yourself with no cards to use. You can easily get your own credit card with no credit if you follow the advice in this article and apply for it in the right manner.
The first step in the process is to review your credit score. If you have a poor score, you may be able to get a credit card with no credit at all, but this will involve a few steps and a lot of work on your part. If you have a good history, however, there is no reason why you cannot get a card.
Most credit card companies will not look at your credit scores before they give you credit card applications with no credit, but many will look at your financial history to make their decision. If you have been bankrupt or have filed bankruptcy papers, your score may be reduced. Your credit score is also influenced by the type of debt you have, whether it is from credit cards or other loans. It is possible to increase your score if you start making your payments on time every month.
If you have applied for a credit card with no credit, you will probably be told that you need to make at least three credit inquiries before they will consider giving you credit with no credit. This means that you will need to spend time looking through the credit records of your creditors, and it will take some time before you find one that you can qualify for. It is very important that you make these three inquiries because they will determine if the credit card company considers you a good risk or not. If you do not make these three inquiries, they will not consider you and your application for a credit card with no credit will not be considered. Therefore, it is important that you work diligently to make these three inquiries before applying.
Once you find a credit card with no credit, you will need to review your credit score. The credit report you have will tell the credit card company the details of your credit history. If you have a good history with credit, you will likely find that you will qualify for a card with no credit. The only thing you will need to do now is to pay off any credit cards that you have already paid off, and start building your credit again. It will take a while to build your credit, and you will find that your credit score will improve as you continue to do this.
It is important that you keep up the payments on your credit cards you have paid off. and make payments to avoid accumulating debt. Paying off your card balances as soon as you can will help increase your credit and prevent you from having problems in the future with your credit card companies.
Din wants to rule by fiat...
Din wants to rule by fiat....
On Saturday, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had his maiden media interview. This was a public relations exercise. He is the prime minister, so such flexing is par for the course. He needs to build rapport among Malaysians anyway, given his use of the unsavoury “backdoor” to wrest power from Pakatan Harapan. But we will leave that discussion for another day and time. Now, in that interview, Muhyiddin said a lot of things. But I’d like to hone in on a few issues. His responses to these display how aloof and complacent he and his government have been since Malaysia went into a lockdown styled as the movement control order (MCO). Firstly, while acknowledging that the country is losing RM2.4 bil every day due to the MCO, he added: “This is my priority … let there be no terminations or layoffs, but then again these are businesses and if they are unable to sustain much longer, what choice do they have? It is not like they can hold to their workers as in normal times. They will be without a source of income used to run their operations or to pay salaries.” Maybe the good PM forgot to check with the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) about its latest findings on the effects of Covid-19 on the economy and Malaysians. Though the department, in its report titled Report of Special Survey on Effects of Covid-19 on Economy and Individual (Round 1), added the caveat that the figures should be interpreted with caution as they are not considered “official statistics … it can be used to support in reflecting the current situation.” That part, reflecting, could have served Muhyiddin and his government well. Here are a few of the report’s findings: a. The agriculture and services sectors registered the highest percentage of job losses compared to other sectors with 21.9% and 15% respectively. b. In the agriculture sector, 33% and 21.1% of workers from fishing and agriculture and plantations sub-sectors respectively had lost their jobs. c. 35.4% of employees in the food services sub-sector have lost their jobs and followed by transport and storage at 18.7%. d. More than two-thirds (71.4%) of self-employed respondents have sufficient savings for less than a month. e. 77.2% of employers and 82.7% of private employees have sufficient financial savings of up to two months. f. 69.7% of those working less than a year and 63.2% of those working between 1-3 years reported that their financial savings will run out in less than a month respectively. g. 25.4% of those working four to 10 years and 27.5 % of those working 11-20 years have sufficient savings of up to 2 months. h. The majority of the employees are unprepared if the MCO is extended except for those working in government-linked companies (GLCs) and multinational corporations (MNCs).
Prime Minister, even your own stats department is screaming bad news. People have and are losing their jobs. And in case you are unaware, some of these companies that have donated money to various Covid-19 initiatives have also taken the opportunity to cut staff salaries. Berjaya Corporation Bhd on March 20 donated RM1 mil to your Covid-19 fund. This is the same Berjaya Corp which a few days ago announced “austerity measures” due to the pandemic. This basically means salary cuts, the percentage of which is to be based on the salary range bracket, and a reduction of fixed monthly allowances. Sapura Energy Bhd’s chiefs Tan Sri Shahril Shamsuddin and Datuk Shahriman Shamsuddin also donated to two Covid-19 funds organised by media group The Edge. But this is the same Sapura that has initiated salary cuts across the board of 5% to 45% as well as “workforce rationalisation,” or the more crude word for that – layoffs. Sure, their defence will be that the C-suite has taken a 50% pay cut, but come on, what is 50% for a chief of whatever. The best part: these companies that have donated are still entitled to tax deductions. No tax breaks or such perks for their unemployed or now poorer staff. Some gallows humour here at the expense of someone’s sanity, but now we really know that a public health crisis can drag you down a notch, from your M40 dreams back into the B40 hole you desperately clawed your way up through blood, sweat and tears. But your T20 boss … he is none the poorer.
B-b-b-but, there is the wage subsidy programme, you say? Well, according to journalist Haresh Deol, after calling up Socso, he was informed that the payment advice emailed was to show that the application had been accepted. The funds, however, would only be transferred in stages, “apabila Perkeso dapat dana.”
Secondly, there’s good ol’ Makcik Kiah and Pakcik Salleh. I wonder how they are doing right now? In his speech on March 27, Muhyiddin calculated that Mak Cik Kiah and family will receive cash support and savings of RM8,664 over six months or RM1,444 per month. But by now, they’d be worrying as they eat into their savings, if they have any. There’s no revenue coming in.
Goodbye, cashflow. And when the RM1,600 reaches them in two tranches, it’ll be too little too late. The Malay Mail has some good anecdotal coverage on the plight of hawkers, cafe owners and traders. Some good pieces include “No work, no EPF savings: Some PPR folks find money drying up as country goes into extended MCO” and “Traders: Closure of PJ’s Jalan Othman wet market could affect supply of fresh produce in Shah Alam, Subang, Damansara.” To think that Muhyiddin actually tried to get us to believe that he understood the plight of the everyday Malaysian when during that interview he mused about using Makcik Kiah and Pakcik Salleh as examples of how down-to-earth he was, including his use of the common greeting, “Apa khabar?” Oh yeah, anyone can go “Apa khabar?” behind a screen. The teleprompter won’t throw a fit. And, since xenophobia has reared its head once again, have we even talked about the legal migrant workers here, who amount to some two million, who have no income whatsoever during this period? They are the backbone of the country’s economic engines, since most of them ply their trade in construction, plantation and services. Didn’t the Ministry of International Trade and Industry announce yesterday that companies in selected services can resume operations as normal, you argue? Well, just like the barbershop gaffe, this edict is poorly thought through. Daycare, schools, and kindergartens are still closed due to the MCO. So where do parents send their kids too? Maybe if they had a domestic worker to deal with their bratty bunch, that’d be great. But how many have such privileges? Heck, it’s a luxury. These things Muhyiddin, MITI minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and even Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz will never understand since they have domestic workers to clean up after them.
And, lastly, there is that one-day Parliamentary sitting in May, leaving any chance of proper debate and also implementation of a real fiscal injection out the window. Of course Muhyiddin had something to say about this too. At the interview, he said Malaysians were sick of politics and were expecting the government to tackle issues that they were facing. “The people do not want to talk about politics, they are sick of it. They want to know what the government, the Cabinet ministers, the administration today is doing to tackle the issues that they are facing.” But how is he going to do that when the big fiscal fireworks have to get parliamentary approval? Let’s face it, Muhyiddin wants to rule by fiat. Parliament is dead. And the elites will continue to sigh “Alhamdulilah,” “Hallelujah” and “Thank the Gods” while the rest of us will be left to lick our wounds and pray to the same gods to help us survive unemployment, salary cuts and, more importantly, the banks once the moratorium ends. Best of all, those of us taxpayers will try to eke out a living while begrudgingly paying our taxes to a government that doesn’t seem to care about us. That too is par for the course these days in addition to PR exercises. - Emmanuel Samarathisa
Politicians' arrogance revealed
by their MCO disregard...
During the coronavirus pandemic, the majority of rakyat have, by and large, adhered to the rules, but Malaysian politicians who openly defy the strict conditions just show that they consider themselves above the law and that the law only applies to ordinary citizens. When politicians misbehave, the nation loses all the trust and respect for them. Don't they know they should set a good example to the others? Breaking the law has only increased the people's ire and disgust of them. In a live telecast on March 18, Muhyiddin Yassin pleaded with Malaysians to observe the Movement Control Order (MCO) and desist from holding gatherings, going on holidays, or "balik kampung". He said, "...Just stay at home and protect yourself and your family." His plea had been made when it was reported that despite the MCO, bus stations were busy with people rushing back to their hometowns, while the police had reported that highways to the north, south and east were congested. Muhyiddin said the lockdown would contain the spread of coronavirus infections, and help control the number of people who could contract the virus.  He also said coronavirus had an incubation period of 14 days, and that the symptoms might not show up for two weeks. So, why did the politicians who broke the MCO rules disregard this important message to keep the people safe and stop an escalation of infection? Many Malaysians have long since realized that the laws only apply to them and that many politicians break the rules. They have little faith in the system, and as one social observer said, "There are two sets of laws: one for the politicians, and another for ordinary people. A person who steals milk powder to feed his starving baby is jailed and fined. A politician who steals millions of taxpayers' money is allowed to escape scot-free. Where is the justice?"
On April 22, senior minister Ismail Sabri said 17,735 individuals had been arrested for violating the MCO. This is only 0.06 percent of the country's population of 31 million and shows that majority of Malaysians are observing the MCO rules. In contrast, a number of politicians from the ruling coalition Perikatan Nasional (PN) have openly flouted the MCO, including Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri, deputy health minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali, Perak executive councilor Razman Zakaria, and deputy youth and sports minister Wan Ahmad Fayhsal. A minister invited people to record a TikTok video in her office, and the daughter of Umno-Baru president visited politicians in Putrajaya. Why are politicians and politically connected people allowed to visit one another? Wouldn't a telephone call do? What message does it send to the public? What does it say, when a single mother was given a 30-day jail term for violating the MCO but Terengganu MB Ahmad Samsuri will not get charged for the same offense? Photographs of Ahmad dining with former MB Ahmad Said have been circulated on social media. The former MB will not be charged. The Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) has classified Ahmad Samsuri's case as "No Further Action" (NFA). No one is making excuses for the single mother, but did the magistrate consider the trauma that will be inflicted on the single mother's 6-year-old son? Who will take care of him during his mother's imprisonment? Why was she not given the same sentence as the MB? Justice should be seen to be dispassionate and impartial. When photographs of deputy health minister Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali and Perak exco Razman Zakaria having a meal with 18 other people in a tahfiz school in Lenggong were uploaded onto Facebook, there was a public uproar. There was no social distancing and the gathering was not essential under the terms of the MCO. The two were investigated and finally charged at a court in Grik for violating the MCO. They were fined RM1,000.
Many questions remain. Would these two and the others who were seen in the photographs have been investigated if not for the rakyat's condemnation? Few people are satisfied with the sentence, especially as these men should have led by example. They probably only apologized because their boss had seen how their behavior had angered the rakyat. In most other countries, people who hold senior positions in government and have committed serious breaches of the law have resigned because they have brought shame to their departments and their leaders. Elderly people who walked to buy food for their families were thrown into prison for breaking the MCO. A single mother was jailed, but two others who were present in court on the same charges were only fined. The sentencing seems very haphazard. Was each individual's circumstances considered? It appears that in Muhyiddin's administration, double standards and different punishments for the public and government officials are here to stay. Jail is reserved for members of the public, when by right government officials should have been more severely punished. As for the RM1,000 fine, one is reminded by the words of a former Umno-Baru minister who said RM2 million is like loose change for him. If Muhyiddin wants to make a difference, the hypocrisy and double standards must cease. - Mariam Mokhtar
Bukan masa nak tolong Rohingya,
utamakan warganegara kita dulu...
Sindiket bawa 202 Rohingya di L'kawi minggu lalu Kenakan RM2,000 seorang. Menteri kata ahli keluarga sudah ada di negara ini perlu bayar tambahan RM13,000. Rancangan bawa masuk pelarian sudah lama dirancang. Perancangan membabitkan sindiket, ejen. Rohingya Myanmar ni bayar RM2,000 kpd sindiket di Cox Bazar, Bangladesh untuk sampai di sini ahli keluarga kena bayar RM13,000 kepada ejen jumlah dibayar ialah RM15,000 semuanya. "Kita akan terus buru sindiket terbabit" Menteri kata demikian pada sidang media di IPD Langkawi,selepas menyertai pemantauan perairan membabitkan APMM, Polis Marin  turut hadir KSU KDN,  Pengarah KDNKABCD, Ketua Imigresen, Ketua Maritim.
SIAPA DALANG DI SEBALIKNYA? Web rasmi KDN berkongsi modus operandi sindiket membawa masuk pelarian secara haram dengan bayaran sebanyak RM15,000 untuk 1 kepala.  Kaedah Bayaran RM2,000 di Bangladesh / Myanmar dan bakinya apabila berjaya mendarat di Malaysia maka ahli keluarga sedia ada di Malaysia perlu membayar lagi RM13,000 untuk 1 kepala sebelum mereka boleh ambil ahli keluarga yg diseludup masuk.  Bayangkan 1 kapal ada 400 orang maka RM15,000 x 400 = RM6,000,000 (RM6 juta!!) adalah satu perniagaan amat menguntungkan.  Jika dalam 1 tahun sindiket dapat membawa masuk 10,000 orang maka bayaran mereka terima sekitar RM150,000,000 (RM150 juta). Tolaklah kos sewa kapal ikan, makan minum atas kapal dan kos diesel dan kos pelincir lain jika ada adalah 30% bersamaan RM45 juta maka ada baki RM105 juta untung bersih setahun untuk hanya 10,000 kepala sahaja.  Syarikat MAS / Malindo / Air Asia pun tak boleh nak untung RM105 juta untuk terbangkan 10,000 penumpang sahaja. MAS yang mengangkut berjuta-juta penumpang setahun pun masih rugi RM791 juta pada tahun 2018.
Hukuman menyeberangi sempadan Negara...  1. Jika anda menyeberangi sempadan Korea Utara secara haram, anda akan dihukum 12 tahun kerja pecah batu. 2. Jika anda menyeberangi sempadan Iran secara haram, anda akan dipenjara 100%. 3. Jika anda menyeberangi sempadan Afghanistan secara haram, anda akan ditembak mati. 4. Jika anda menyeberangi sempadan Arab Saudi secara haram, anda akan dipancung pada hari Jumaat. 5. Jika anda menyeberangi sempadan Amerika Syarikat secara haram, anda akan dipenjarakan sebagai pengganas. 6. Jika anda menyeberangi sempadan British secara haram, anda akan ditangkap, didakwa dan dihantar ke penjara. 7. Jika anda menyeberangi sempadan MALAYSIA secara haram, anda berpeluang tinggi untuk mendapat:
- Mykad sementara atau - Status PR Penduduk Tetap atau - Kad UNHCR untuk cari kerja - Lesen Memandu - Tempahan Kerja - boleh dapat Kad kredit - boleh buka akaun di mana2 bank - mendapat pendidikan percuma termasuk dalam bahasa Myanmar - Penjagaan kesihatan dgn kos minimal  - jika anda wanita hamil boleh bersalin di hospital kerajaan - boleh jadi tauke kedai runcit. - boleh jadi bos bagi orang Melayu - boleh beli rumah - boleh beli tanah free hold - boleh dapat keistimewaan Khas Bumiputera jika anda Islam, berbahasa Melayu  - akan dapat hak mengundi (jika ada Projek IC di kawasan anda) - boleh kahwin wanita Melayu lebih daripada satu - boleh guna nama isteri Melayu untuk pinjaman / bantuan bumiputera - boleh buang isteri Melayu dan lari balik ke Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indon - isteri Melayu akan tanggung pinjaman bumiputera - akan dibela parti politik Melayu /Islam,terutamanya UMNOPAS - boleh sertai kumpulan pengganas Salafi / Wahabi / Abu Sayaf
OSTB Conclusion :  Jadi apa pula akan berlaku kepada kes-kes pelarian Rohingya yang mana kapalnya sudah selamat sampai di Malaysia  tetapi 'ahli keluarga mereka' di sini tidak mempunyai duit baki RM13,000 itu untuk "membebaskan" mereka daripada sindiket seludup Rohingya itu? Takkan pelarian Rohingya itu akan dihantar pulang ke Cox Bazaar? No way. Sudah tentu sindiket seludup Rohingya itu perlu ada tempat sulit untuk 'penjarakan' pelarian Rohingya sambil menunggu ahli keluarga mencari baki wang RM13,000 untuk 'membebaskan' mereka daripada sindiket.  Di manakah agaknya "kem-kem tahanan" atau "holding tank" untuk penjarakan pelarian Rohingya yang belum bayar baki RM13,000 itu? Apakah mereka akan di tahan di Ritz Carlton Langkawi? Saya rasa tidak mungkin. Apakah mereka akan ditahan dalam hutan atas bukit yang jarang di patrol oleh pihak berkuasa?  Saya main agak-agak saja.  And then kalau ahli keluarga pelarian Rohingya itu tidak mempunyai duit RM13,000 macam mana pula? Apa yang akan berlaku? Apakah mereka akan ditanam dalam mass grave pula? Just thinking of the possibilities ok.
Ataupun apakah mereka boleh minta pinjaman jangka pendek (short term financing) daripada persatuan atau organisasi tertentu yang terlibat dengan business seludup Rohingya ini? atau daripada kalangan mereka sendiri, yang sudah kaya raya di sini. Takkan dia pinjam duit daripada Maybank. Dengan kadar interest rate yang berpatutan untuk membayar balik pinjaman duit 'membebaskan' ahli keluarga mereka?   You see folks, at RM15,000 satu kepala and 150,000 Rohingya in the country it adds up to RM2,250,000,000.00. Kalau tak tahu baca that is RM2.25 BILLION !!  Katakanlah this figure is off by 90%. Say it is only 10% of RM2.25 Billion.That is still RM225 MILLION. That is a lot of money bro. From my knowledge of the Bazaar Ramadan corruption, it was only millions of Ringgit or tens of millions. Yet the corruption went all the way up up and up.  This Rohingya human trafficking involves hundreds of millions of Ringgit. This has to involve really high, high people.  Nak angkut dalam satu lori pun tak cukup. Kena angkut dengan kapal Rohingya yang besar sekali. - OSTB
not to be rude but betsy devos is vastly unqualified ... idk if u saw her senate confirmation or even live in the us but ,,, she donated $200 mil to the republican party and has no experience with public schools ,,, yet she's the secretary of education ,,,, alright (her senate confirmation was wild ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, itd be funny if the entire edu system wasn't at risk,,,)
hi! right so first off, i live in the UK so i had to do a little bit of research in order to give you a worthy answer for this.
so…as i hear it, she wouldn’t have gotten the job of education secretary if she hadn’t basically paid for it over the years of her family donating to them?! that is actually wild. those kind of things make me so mad! there are some people (i assume) working so hard in the political industry, meanwhile those who have the money are just fixed up to the job bc they are a financial asset.
on a more personal note, she seems like she has some bad ideas. to quote her on tuition fees - “there is nothing in life that is truly free, somebody is going to pay for it.”
oh wow…i just watched the interview of her regarding guns being introduced into school! HOW ON EARTH IS SHE A POLITICIAN OMG! first off she - the education secretary - tries to pass the question off as if it isn’t her question to answer…and then she gives a hypothetical answer about grizzly bears……i am praying for the US education system rn.
 ***** Illinois pot growers say that if more licenses aren’t issued to growers, there could be a shortage if recreational weed is legalized. Studies show that medical cannabis demand is under reported. ** Support Senate Bill 7 to legalize recreational marijuana. It is the early stages and has not yet been fleshed out but the bare bones of it passed the committee 12-4. Let’s go!
*****With the presentation of the Peabody award, Rita Moreno will become the third PEGOT winner on May 18. She will join Barbra Streisand and Mike Nichols on that list.
***** Harvard and Yale text book writing U.S. rep in California, Katie Porter is really shaking up the congressional hearings. Go Go Go!!
***** Could Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker have a way of keeping Trump off the ballot? Are the Dems getting as creative as the GOP?  Illinois is looking into forcing candidates to show the last 10 years of their tax returns or their name will not appear on the ballot.
***** Michael Shannon and Audra McDonald are the newest to play Frankie and Johnny on Broadway.
***** Watching the clueless old white politicians on the Sunday morning shows (yea, you John Barraso) makes me a little queasy. ** And I get so tired of the talking heads speaking for the ‘middle of the country’.  Most of the people I know care deeply about the Mueller report. Who the fuck are they talking about? Talk about special rules for our rich President as we remember Nixon and the Clintons. Why should Scary Clown 45 get such great treatment?  I am always hearing about the ‘middle of the country’ worrying about feeding our families and fixing our cars and not knowing or caring about issues in Washington. It is true that so many are living the paycheck to paycheck dream and are burdened with health care and other emergencies they can’t afford but they pay attention to the political problems of this country too. Since citizens don’t have the time or the power or money to be in Washington, they rely on those they voted for to keep each other in line.  Quit letting the shady shit go on. Have some backbone and do not let things slide. Simple rule: DO WHAT IS RIGHT.
***** Word is that Somebody paid off Brett Kavanaugh’s $92,000 country club fees, $200,000 credit card debt and 1.2 mil mortage. Seems like someone might own him.
***** Maria Butina was sentenced to 18 months.
***** The Man in the High Castle will end after season 4.
***** I love the way Abigail Disney is standing up to CEO’s.  The points she makes are ones that the corporation heads always hope you won’t think about. Shouldn’t employees be treated fairly? If a CEO is motivated by their own bonus they are far more likely to overlook things like environmental damage, human rights violations and worker’s rights. Nobel prize winning economist Joseph Stiglitz agrees.
***** When will the press (local and worldwide), give equal exposure to ALL candidates that run for office, especially President? We want to be informed. I do research but not everybody does and needs it to be easily accessible. Sometimes you have to spoon feed but why is it so hard to be fair? Enough with the agendas!!! There also needs to be more places to look for local issues. I hear so many citizens that tell me they don’t know what will be on the ballot. The info can be hard to find but USA Facts helps. Check it out!
***** Four days after confirmation, secretary of interior, David Bernhardt is under investigation for ethical misconduct.
***** Rod Rosenstein is out! His good bye included praise for the Pres and thanking him for all the personal conversations!! What He is the Deputy AG. What??
***** Jordan Klepper did a great gag on comedy central with the Clintons about Hil doing the audio book of the Mueller report. Yes!!
***** The Trumps are suing Deutsche bank and Capital One so they won’t turn over financial records to congress. Aren’t these actions obstruction of congress?
***** Indivisible is getting voters and candidates to sign a pledge to make the primary constructive and support the ultimate democratic winner.
***** Thank you to Tricia Newbold who is the WH whistle blower who let us know about Trump overriding security clearances. Rumor is that to punish her they took advantage of her physical limitations and purposely put files high and out of her reach. Wow! That is right out of high school.
***** Julian Assange was taken into custody and it seems he has turned into some sort of odd Howard Hughes character.
***** Hollywood is putting on a fundraiser for Mayor Pete. The event will be co-hosted by Ryan Murphy and hubby David Miller, Matt Bomer, Jess Cagle and hubby Matt Whitney and Billy Eichner among others. Murphy also hosted Kamala Harris on April 12. Some of Pete’s major donors have been Ryan Reynolds, Jane Lynch, Mandy Moore, Bradley Whitford and James Murdoch.
***** The Webby awards have been announced. Some winners are Billy on the Street, James Corden, Schitt’s Creek, Pod Save the People and Jimmy Kimmel’s mean tweets. Best music video went to Donald Glover for This is America and The Daily won for its onald J. Trump presidential twitter library.
***** Better Call Saul will call it quits after season 6.
***** Charlize Theron and Seth Rogan star in Long Shot, a political rom com out May 3.
*****& Sara Gilbert joins season 3 of Atypical!!!!!
***** Mushroom season is here and it looks like our friend Kavin is sure bringing ‘em home.
***** The shower toga looks like a great get for the festival scene.
***** Barry has been picked up for season 3. Hell yea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
***** The state of Georgia wants to make any embryo a fully legalized citizen. An embryo would count on taxes and be able to receive child support.
***** Please let the immigrant children out of their cages!
***** Stacey Abrams has a best seller, Lead from the Outside.
***** Did Harper Lee write ‘The Reverand?’ Oh how I wish I knew!!
***** When will the Bob Geldof story make it to the big screen and can Pete Davidson play him please??
***** Tuca and Bertie from Netflix looks awesome. It has to be good with stars Ali Wong and Tiffany Haddish!!
***** John Lithgow is about to release a book with his poetry about the President which will carry the title of his pet name (everybody seems to have one for Trump), Dumpty.
***** The Sultan of Brunei owns the Hotel Bel-Air in L.A. and the Beverly Hills Hotel. His country will now stone gay people to death. BOYCOTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*****
***** Tim Ryan is running for President.
***** Seth Moulton is running for President.
***** Joe Biden is running for President.
***** What the hell is happening to Steak ‘n Shake??
***** What the hell is the matter with Senator Mike Lee? He makes a ridiculous presentation with a flying Reagan and all and now he says that babies may be the answer to climate change. He says we need to be free and develop. What is this gut talking about? Why are people like this getting into office?
***** There is a new podcast called Analysis of a killer.
***** Marianne Williamson is running for President.
***** Eric Swalwell is running for President.
***** The notion that Trumps twitter is like a national nanny cam makes perfect sense.
***** Can’t wait to read Seth Abramson’s, Proof of collusion.
***** The question isn’t really collusion. The redacted Mueller report is out and we now see why the team itself did not draw conclusions. All the evidence is there and a sitting President can’t be indicted…. Or can he? There are, however, multiple examples of corruption.  It didn’t cost as much as other independent counsel reports because of all the fines that were charged to Manafort and others pretty much paid for it. Mueller called and wrote to Attorney General Barr and told him he created confusion with his memo and that it didn’t really tell the story.
***** In about 12 years Mueller Probe will be a cool name for a band. –Sarah Silverman
***** Federal appellate judge Maryanne Trump Barry, sister of the President has officially retired at age 82. She was put on the U.S. court of appeals by Bill Clinton. And with that, so ends the investigation into her alleged violations of judicial conduct rules because of participation in fraudulent tax schemes with her siblings in the 90’s.
***** I loved the mash up of Trevor Noah taking over the chair and interviewing Colbert on the Late Show.
***** Oliver North and Wayne LaPierre have been fighting amongst themselves at the NRA. Blackmail? Was North trying to get LaPierre out? The board is standing by the VP while North seems aligned with a public relations firm that some board members disagree with. There are many financial questions as  well. Once again the NRA held its annual convention which does not allow guns. At the end of April North was forced out
***** The Universe is about a billion years younger than we thought according to astronomer Adam Riess. This is causing experts to look into rethinking dark energy and dark matter. Total mind blow!!!
***** People have taken to wearing Free Britney T’s. Her fans held a protest in L.A. to free her from the facility they believe she was forced into.
***** It seems fads lately are all about internet speak like. “felt cute ….” And etc. like that.
***** They are working on a Beauty and the Beast themed bar in Florida.
***** Seymour, Indiana recently uncovered pieces of a mastodon.
***** Mia Farrow has a cute little blue headed bird that visits here every morning. Is it Sinatra?
***** U go Grace Jones, showing us how to do it at 70!!!!!!
***** J Lo and Owen Wilson will star in Marry Me about a pop star who marries a random man in the crowd.
***** Magic Johnson resigned as President of the Lakers. The Owner and general manager were supposedly bad mouthing him.
***** The sweetest moment in the inductions on this year’s rock and roll hall of fame was the love shown for Rick Allen, the drummer for Def Leppard.
***** So twice as many companies don’t pay taxes now thanks to all the tax cuts. Some even get refunds. Scary Clown sure is making it work for the big guys!!
***** Former President of Peru, Alan Garcia shot himself before his arrest for corruption.
***** Wendy Williams and Howard Stern seem to be having a little war of words. She claims he has gone Hollywood and he called her a cunt. She has filed for divorce from this apparently nasty hubby of hers. I thought I heard her say just weeks ago that they were fine.
***** Joel McHale is in the new season of Santa Clarita Diet.
***** Has anybody checked out John Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg  ( Wow! Talk about getting the whole treatment) lately ? John F’s only grandson, better known as Jack Schlossberg , has a bright future ahead.
***** Lori Lightfoot has been elected the first black, openly gay woman as Mayor of Chicago.
***** Dave Tilley beat out John McCarty, who passed away in February, to become Spring Bay, Il. Village President.
*****Britney Spears’ Father is in ill health and Britney checked into a facility.
***** Zachary Quinto stars in the new NOS4A2.
***** It’s funny to me that when a true crime story hour begins, you never hear that he (cuz 9 times out of 10 it is the male spouse who is the culprit), was an atheist or an agnostic. No, it is always that he or the family attended church regularly or that they were close to God. This is just a pattern I have observed, totally my own thoughts.  Sometimes it gets way outer limits with the Fathers who sort of run their own cult out of the house. Of course this is not a blanket statement for we see wonderful things being done in the name of the Lord.  It just seems like there is a fine line where religion can be used as a way to hold their power and hide secrets. JS
***** Herman Cain and or Stephen Moore on the Federal regulatory board?  Well, Herman Cain dropped out.
***** Andrew Yang is running for President. Join the Yang Gang!! He wants to free all prisoners with non -violent marijuana offenses, free healthcare for all and every adult gets $1000.00 a month.
***** The Criminal Minds cast is ending their run. I think they should get together one more time and do a sort of Agatha Christie whodunit.
***** Secretary of Homeland security, Kirstjen Nielsen is out.
***** Acting ICE director, Ron Vitiello is out.
***** Dislike the elite? Nobody is more elite that Trump. How do so many people not get that?
***** Every woman should be able to tell her truth and who knows what makes a person uncomfortable but I think Joe Biden is going thru some bullshit. I don’t agree with everything he has done thru the years but I trust Biden and think he would be a great President.  I do think, however that his moment has passed.
***** Check out the behind the scenes book of Washington, ‘The Hill to die on’ by Jake Sherman and Anna Palmer. More proof that Trump just looks at everything as just a big show with his quote,“ There are ratings for everything.”
***** The Profiles in Courage award this year goes to Nancy Pelosi.
***** I have seen the pharmaceutical reps while at some recent Dr.visits, buying elaborate catered affairs for the medical staff.  It is a weekly thing. They sure have some money to throw around. No wonder everybody is hooked on something.
***** Real National emergencies: The electoral college, the discrepancies between the rich and the poor which makes it impossible to achieve the American dream, climate change and healthcare.
***** The co- founder of Home Depot, Ken Langone has seen to it that medical school students at NYU are given free tuition always. YEOW!!
***** We should take a lesson from Sudan. They have ousted President Omar al-Bashir, the butcher of Dafur. The protests have led to his indictment for genocide and crimes against humanity.
***** We never stop learning: Archaeologists have discovered an extinct human species they have never known in the Phillipines that they are calling homo luzonensis.
***** Is Cody Fern teasing us on Instagram about season 9 of American Horror Story:1984?
***** Rumple Buttercup by Matthew Gray Gubler hit #1 on the NY Times bestseller list.
***** As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of Tarantino’s Palme d’or win in Cannes, he is busy editing Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It isn’t clear if he’ll get the film to this year’s event. Word is coming out that it is fantastic though.
***** I am a little bit sickened that the worst cooks show actually has Jimmie Walker and Tonya Harding on the same show.  Can’t the world find something better for a talent like Walker?? Come on!!
***** Is Stephen Miller and Fox news really running this country?
